Dorothy Eileen (Dixon) Sexton, 95, of Carlinville, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2020 at Heritage Health in Carlinville.

Dorothy was born June 16, 1924 in Pawnee, the daughter of Mack and Willie (Carver) Dixon.  She married Franklin D. Sexton on July 19, 1958 at the Methodist Church in Springfield.  He preceded her in death on April 28, 2006.

Dorothy graduated from Pawnee High School in 1942, and went on to work for the Illinois Department of Public Health from 1943 until her retirement in 1983.  She was a past member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, and she was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Haslemere Chapter 221 in Taylorville.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-daughter, Sandra Clark; and sister, Jane Manning.

Dorothy is survived by her step-son, Dean (wife, Wendy) Sexton of Plainview; step-son-in-law, Steve Clark of Brazil, IN; grandchildren, Dustin (wife, Christine) Sexton of Marine, Sean Clark of Brazil, IN, Scot (wife, Stacey) Clark of Indianapolis, IN, and Karen (husband, Josh) Eaves of Plainview; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Max (wife, Julie) Dixon of Pawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside ceremonies will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

Roger H. Dickerson, 83 of Taylorville, formerly of Mt. Auburn, passed away at 1:07a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on September 23, 1936 in Gameliel, Kentucky, the son of John and Alma (Proffitt) Dickerson.  He married Lucille Ealey on September 20, 1957 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2018.  Mr. Dickerson operated the Mt. Auburn Blacksmith and Welding shop for his entire adult life.  He was proud of his hometown of Mt. Auburn and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.  From coaching to helping with the community picnic, he was an active member of the community.  

He is survived by his children: Connie Tippitt (Galen) of Wataga, Illinois and Kenny Dickerson (Cindy) of Mt. Auburn; grandchildren: Walter Tippitt (Lara) of Mt. Auburn, Robin Barnes (Matthew) of Peoria, and Jamie Dickerson of Forsyth; and great grandchildren: Quintin Tippitt, Blake Tippitt, Jonas Carlson, Pearl Carlson, Adora Carlson, and Frank Roger Dickerson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 2 brothers.  

Mr. Dickerson will be cremated, and a private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Howard Dwight Simmons, 85 of Auburn, IL formerly of Mt. Auburn, IL went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 30, 2020 at 2:12 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was the oldest son of six boys born to Samuel and Estella Simmons on December 16, 1934 in Vandalia, IL. The family moved to Mt. Auburn, IL where he graduated High School in the class of 1954. He met and married Shirley A. White on August 6, 1955 in the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church. He worked at Fiat Allis and farmed on the side. He built their home in Mt. Auburn, IL. 

He is survived by his wife Shirley Simmons; Children: David D. (Brenda) Simmons of Auburn, IL; Daniel H. (Beth) Simmons of Mt. Auburn, IL; Janet L. (Jerry) Sheley of Chatham, IL; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a great-grandchild. 

Howard loved the Lord and was a lifelong member, superintendent and teacher of the Stonington Church of the Nazarene until it closed. They then became members of the Taylorville Christian Church. He loved his family especially his grandchildren, farming, going to farm sales and buying toy tractors. After retiring and health issue Howard and Shirley sold the farm and moved to Auburn, IL to Eastland Retirement Center.    

Due to the Virus and the CDC recommendations private graveside services will be held in Grove City Cemetery in Grove City, IL with Pastor James Jones officiating.

Mrs. Leuberta Mae Henson, 85, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 10:32 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2020 at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Taylorville, IL.

She was born in Sicily, IL the daughter of Walter Russell and Alpha Leuberta (Ray) Tucker.  Her earliest years were spent in Kincaid, she later went to school and graduated from Illiopolis Schools.  Leuberta then married Lloyd L. Henson in Decatur, IL June 9, 1952 and moved back to Kincaid.  Lloyd preceded her in death October 14, 2001. Mrs. Henson was a member of the Kincaid Church of the Nazarene; she had attended the Taylorville Church of the Nazarene after the Kincaid church closed.  She worked at the Lincoln Garment Factory in Lincoln, IL.  Leuberta enjoyed spending time with family.  

Surviving are 3 daughters Reba Williams and Deborah Nance both of Kincaid, IL Sandra Lee of Decatur, IL. 2 sons Lloyd “Jr” Henson and Donnie Henson both of Missouri along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, a daughter Charlotte Becks, son George Henson, and brothers George, Herbert, Lavern, Arthur and Aaron Tucker.

Strict government protocols and guidelines will be enforced.  Family funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  Rev. Louis Kunz of the Kincaid Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Illiopolis, IL.  Family visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Brad Allen Cox, 50, of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 2:45 pm at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on December 4th, 1969 in Charleston, IL to Millard Eugene and Neoma Ann (Pierson) Cox. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1988. Brad married Karen Hall on November 06, 2015 in Taylorville, IL. Before meeting Karen, Brad was married to Betty (Cox) Ellinger, with whom he raised two children (John and Madison) with. He spent most of his career driving a truck and farming.

He is survived by his Wife: Karen Cox of Taylorville, IL; Children: John (Cassie) Cox and Madison Cox of Taylorville, IL; Stepchildren: Justin (Danielle) Hall, Kellie Wingo, and Jerica Hall of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Berkley, Mason, Aiden, Grady, Asher, Emylie, Easton, Mason, and Connor; Brother: David (Brenda) Cox; Sister: Kimberly Evans and Mother: Neoma Ann Cox, and many other family members and friends. Norma Jean Dixon, 88, lifelong resident of Morrisonville, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Norma was born December 4, 1931 in Morrisonville, the daughter of James and Mary Frances (Freese) Stringer.  She married Earl S. Dixon on March 15, 1948 in Pana, and they have enjoyed over 72 years of marriage.  Norma was a homemaker, while Earl worked in the coal mine.  She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville.  Norma loved shopping, and the trips Earl and she would take to the Grand Canyon and Arizona. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Gloria Jean Dixon; daughter-in-law, June Dixon; brothers, Chester Gibson and Wayne Slagel; and sisters, Virginia Hendricks and Dorothy Patraski.

Norma is survived by her husband, Earl S. Dixon of Morrisonville; children, David Earl Dixon of Dallas, TX, Linda Traylor of Springfield, and Rickey Dixon of Taylorville; grandchildren, James Merrifield, Brooke Herrick, Amber Dixon, and Rachel Dixon; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Private family services will be held with Rev. Chad Foster officiating.

Interment will follow the ceremonies at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Mt. Sterling, Illinois – Dorothy Agnes Tracy, 91, co-founder of Dot Foods, died at 12:05 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020, in her home. She died of natural causes not related to the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

Dorothy was born on January 21, 1929, in Taylorville, Ill. She was one of Lawrence and Marie Curtin’s seven children. She grew up on their farm in Blue Mound, Ill., attended Stonington Community High School, and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield, Ill. In 1949, she received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Illinois.  

While at the university, she met Robert Francis Tracy, an agriculture student from Jerseyville, Ill. They were married in Stonington, Ill., on June 9, 1949, and resided in Champaign, Ill., until 1952 when they moved to Mt. Sterling, Ill. In 1960, the Tracys started their business, Associated Dairy Products Company.

Dorothy often worked as a substitute teacher at St. Mary School and Brown County High School in Mt. Sterling. She also assisted Robert in running the new company, functioning as secretary/bookkeeper and even helping make deliveries of food products to their customers. At that time, the Tracys had eight children, all under the age of 10. 

In honor of Dorothy, Associated Dairy Products Company changed its name to Dot Associated Dairy Products Company in 1966 before being renamed Dot Foods in 1981. Today, the $8.1 billion company is the largest food industry redistributor in North America and is still owned and operated by the Tracy family. Dot Foods employs 6,400 people in 16 locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including 2,800 at its Mt. Sterling corporate headquarters.  

Dorothy was active in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, where she often played the organ. She was also a member of the National T.T.T. Society chapter in Mt. Sterling, served on the Brown County School Board, and played bridge in several local clubs.  

Dorothy had a philanthropic spirit, a value she instilled in her children and grandchildren and made a cornerstone of her company. She volunteered and supported many local charities and is known for her role in helping build the Mt. Sterling Community Center YMCA, which opened in 2004. Construction of the facility was paid for by Robert and Dorothy Tracy, the Tracy Family Foundation, and Dot Foods.

Dorothy is survived by her 12 children, Donald (Wanda) of Springfield, Ill.; Patrick (Jane) of Town and Country, Mo.; Thomas (Catherine) of Mt. Sterling, Ill.; Anne (Ray) Capestrain of Springfield, Ill.; James (Jil) of Quincy, Ill.; Jean (Mike) Buckley of Quincy, Ill.; John (Linda) of Des Peres, Mo.; Mary (Jay) Sullivan of Pleasantville, N.Y.; Susan (Scott) Stamerjohn of Quincy, Ill.; Jane (Fred) Schmidt of Des Peres, Mo.; Joseph (Jill) of Quincy, Ill.; Richard (Adina) of Des Peres, Mo.; 46 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Paul (Gail) Curtin of Lisle, Ill.; Larry Curtin of Taylorville, Ill.; John (Alice) Curtin of Taylorville, Ill.; and sister-in-law Nancy Curtin of Ocean City, N.J. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 26, 2006; her parents; her sister, Catherine Trueblood; and her brothers Bill Curtin and Leo Curtin.  

The private burial for immediate Tracy family members will be at the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.

Due to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s stay-at-home order, which limits the size of groups to 10 people or less, a memorial service for Dot Foods employees, friends, and the entire Tracy family will be held at a yet-to-be determined date.

Richard K. Barber, 90, of Mattoon, passed away at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at his residence.

Richard was born January 11, 1930 in rural Moultrie County, the son of John and Gladys (Coffey) Barber.  A lady from Coles Station delivered him, because the doctor could not make it to the family home because of a snow storm.  He married Mary Lou Wente on October 8, 1949 in Neoga.  She preceded him in death on September 23, 2014.

Richard started his career as manager at Gebhart’s Auto Supply in Mt. Vernon, and was then transferred to Urbana.  He then worked for the Mattoon Water Department, before taking employment with Ameren, where he worked for 30 years before his retirement.  Richard was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church in Mattoon, and a founding father of Camp New Hope in Mattoon.  He was also a member of the Moose, Eagles, Elks, and a former member of CCAR.  For many years, Richard enjoyed his time spent as a baseball coach.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew, Wayne, and John Barber; granddaughter, Dana Lynn; and son-in-law, Jim Shafer.

Bobby D. Smith Jr., 55, of Taylorville passed away at 9:00a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  He was born on September 8, 1964 in Taylorville, the son of Bobby D. and Betty (Jones) Smith.  He married Shelly Ley in 1984 and they later divorced in 1999.  Bobby attended the Church of the Nazarene in Taylorville.  He loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing and also enjoyed shooting pool.

He is survived by his children: Bobby Smith III (Meghan) of Palmer, Michael Smith (companion Karah) of Forsyth, Dustin Smith of Taylorville, Shanae Smith of Taylorville and Jacy Smith of Taylorville; grandchildren: Brooklyn and Branson of Palmer and Shainah of Forsyth; step-daughters: Amber Brown ,Ashley Rynders and Jordyn Browning of Taylorville; sisters: Sandy Damhoff (Gerald) of Morrison, Pat Roland of Morrison, and Barbara Downs (Rick) of Tovey; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Donna Duncan, and beloved pet Baby Girl.

Mr. Smith will be cremated, and no services are planned at this time.

Edna C. Fournier, 92 of Coalton passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 at 11:37 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on March 7, 1928 in Coalton, IL the daughter of Jules J. and Lena (Vetali) Fournier. Edna was a bookkeeper at the First National Bank in Nokomis for 42 ½ years and she was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis.

She is survived by several of her special friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis with Father Albert Allen officiating. Due to the state restrictions the mass will be limited to her 12 immediate family members and friends.

Brian E. Stone, 61, of Taylorville, passed away at 4:02 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Brian was born February 13, 1959 in Taylorville, the son of Robert Nelson and Adene (Johnson) Stone, Sr.  Brian moved to Florida in 1980, where he installed irrigation systems for landscaping and golf courses.  In 2006, he moved back and was employed by GSI as a forklift operator.  Brian was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, and riding horses and motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents; and sister, Becky Mendoza.

Brian is survived by his mother, Adene Rightnowar of Marble Hill, MO; sons, Jason (wife, Brittany) Stone of Pickville, TN, and Josh (wife, Kim) Stone of Lexington, TN; daughter, Amy Stone of Clinton, NC; grandchildren, Baylee, Jacie, Dani, and Rylee, all of TN; brothers, Bob (wife, Lu Anne) Stone, Jr. of Palmer, Kevin (wife, Pat) Stone of Pekin, and Ron (wife, Hope) Stone of Peoria; sisters, Charlotte (husband, Ed) Adams of Peoria, Sandy (husband, Jim) Lutz of Monterey, TN, Vicki (husband, Usama) Dakdok of Marble Hill, MO, Susan (husband, Rod) Petty of Taylorville, and Debbie Stone of Peoria; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert Dean Kevie ,71 of Perris, CA, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at his residence.  He was born on March 6, 1949 in Chehalis, WA the son of Robert James and Erma Louise (Wareham) Kevie. Robert graduated with the Taylorville High School Class of 1967, and moved to Southern California in 1974. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Brother: Ronald William Kevie and a nephew: Ronald James Kevie.

He is survived by his Sister; Lynda (Bob) Hall of Taylorville, IL and Aunt; Bonnie Wareham of Taylorville, IL. Long time friend; David Mantooth of Perris, CA.

She was born on May 17, 1938 in Eunice, MO the daughter of Edmond A. and Nellie E. (Bullock) Dodson. She married John R. Snyder Sr. on February 14, 1960 in Illiopolis, IL. Dorris worked as a Wife, Mother, and Homemaker.

Virginia L. “Jinny” Bethard, 65, of Morrisonville, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Jinny was born October 14, 1954 in Carlinville, the daughter of James and Anne (Hazelwood) Mathis.  She married Steven V. Bethard on July 12, 1975 in Medora.  Jinny devoted her life to her husband and family as a homemaker.  Many remembered her as the “Cake Lady”, as she baked cakes for many events and special occasions over the years.  Jinny was also an avid animal lover.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Mathis.

Mary Helen (Oyler) Crawford, 65, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.

Mary was born August 10, 1954 in Taylorville, the daughter of Robert L. and Helen I. (Norris) Oyler.  She married Richard Charles Crawford on April 27, 1974, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.  He preceded her in death on January 28, 2018.

Mary graduated from Taylorville High School in 1972.  She was bookkeeper for First Trust in Taylorville, as well as for Farm Fresh and Blackhawk while she lived in Norfolk, VA, while Richard was in the Navy.  Mary enjoyed photography, traveling, and day trips to the ocean or zoo.  She loved eating out, and was an avid Elvis and country western music lover.  Mary was a past-member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; great niece, Lia Bertolino; and uncles, Joe and Jim Norris.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Robert (wife, Laura) Oyler of Taylorville, Anne (husband, Garrett) Yocum of Warr Acre, OK, Teresa (husband, Joseph) Nolan of Taylorville, David (wife, Penny) Oyler of Baytown, TX, and Margaret (husband, Charles) Burgener of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private family ceremonies will be held, followed by inurnment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Vonda Pauline Mooney-Ellrich, 89, of Taylorville passed away at 11:05p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Heritage Manor in Pana.  She was born on May 11, 1930 in Morrisonville, the daughter of William Nelson and Freda Cecelia (Kessler) Phelps.  She married John Mooney in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1974.  She later married Robert Ellrich in 1976 and he also preceded her in death in 2005.  Vonda previously worked at the Shirley Shop in Taylorville before being a homemaker.  Later she worked at Summer’s in Taylorville for many years.  She was an active member of the Taylorville First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, was a member of the Presbyterian Women, and used her gift of cooking to serve the church in many areas.  Vonda was talented in many crafts including her love of cooking and baking and sewing.  She was a talented seamstress all her life and could make and repair any type of garment.  She also enjoyed refinishing furniture.  Whether she was cooking, sewing or working on a furniture project, she made sure the result was perfect.  

She is survived by her daughters: Neva Mooney and Lisa C. Richardson (Randy) both of Taylorville; grandchildren: John Richardson of Springfield and Katherine Richardson (companion, Will Decker) of Portland, Oregon; 4 nieces and a nephew.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, and sisters: Iva Altman and Lila Allen.

Mrs. Ellrich will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Vonda’s honor may be made to the Taylorville First Presbyterian Church.

Daniel Bruce Morgason, 56, of Taylorville, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, following a long battle with illness. Bruce was born September 4, 1963 in Dekalb, the son of A. Dale and Joann L. (Durbin) Morgason.  Camping and fishing with his brothers is what he enjoyed most, and Bruce loved drinking his ice cold beer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Morgason; and sister, Linda Morgason. Bruce is survived by his sons, Jesse Cole of Hillsboro, and Daniel L. Watkins of East St. Louis; siblings, Phyllis Townsley of Danville, Wanda Morgason of Taylorville, Wayne “Rex” (wife, Anita) Morgason of Winchester, Darryl G. Morgason of Taylorville, twin Samuel “Brian” (wife, Alicia) Morgason of Bethany, and Sarah (husband, Larry) Crabtree of Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary Hartley.

Doris J. DeClerck, 82 of Pana passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 at Heritage Health—Pana. She was born July 29, 1937 in Pana, IL, daughter of the late Charles & Leona (Barding) Bartow. Doris married Robert DeClerck on July 2, 1954 and he survives in Pana.

Doris lived in Pana her entire life; working for the greenhouses, Mallory’s, Rothley’s Clothing in Taylorville & Decatur, and Pana Lumber. She was also a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana. Doris enjoyed shopping, bowling & fishing and especially loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Doris is survived by her children: Debby (Eric) Jostes, Pana, IL; Brenda (Gary) Spurling, Taylorville and Kent (Debbie) DeClerck, Pana; grandchildren: Aaron (Laura) Jostes, Michael (Bobi Jo) Jostes, Philip (Samantha) Jostes, Tammy (Todd) Altman, Samuel (Kiernan) Spurling, Robert (Kara) Spurling, Amber (Grover) Green, Christina Horsthemke; great grandchildren: Lauren, Ella, Kara, Lillian, Ethan, Kaley, Hailey, Xton, Ainsley; and several nieces & nephews. Mrs. Ann L. Broccardo, 75, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

She was born in Northampton, MA on December 8, 1944 the daughter of Louis and Shirley Louise (Campbell) Hathaway.  Ann was raised in and around Haydenville, MA.  She married Carl R. Broccardo on September 8, 1967 in Northampton, MA and he preceded her in death July 10, 2005.

Mrs. Broccardo was a partner and broker with Broccardo Insurance Agency for over 40 years retiring in 2004.  She attended Midland United Methodist Church, Kincaid.  Ann was well known throughout the Midland area and was formerly very active as a volunteer with the Kincaid Band Boosters, Kincaid Sports Boosters, the Kincaid American Legion, and the Red Hats.  Everyone loved Ann’s open-door hospitality.

Surviving are 2 daughters Shirley Ann “Ley” Fatzinger of St. Louis, MO Michelle (husband Rick) Brown of Harvel, IL 2 sons Brian Broccardo of Kincaid, IL and Anthony Broccardo of Springfield, IL along with a sister Debbie Marcus and husband Vince, of the Dominican Republic, 2 grandchildren Steven and Sarah Fatzinger, Ann’s husband’s 2 sisters and 1 brother, several nieces and nephews including Vince (wife Emily) Marcus and their children Kalyn and Asher and Scott Marcus and her cousin and life long friends Dick and Kathy Thomas.    

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl and a brother Robert Hathaway.

John Albert Mills, 81 of Edinburg passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 2:00 a.m. at his daughters’ home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on October 4, 1938 in Taylorville, IL the son of Albert and Lela (McCardle) Mills. He married Beverly Flahart on October 27, 1956 in Taylorville, IL. John Graduated from Taylorville High School in the Class of 1956. After graduation he worked at Peabody Mine #10 for 35 years and was on the Mine Rescue team for 14 of those years. John was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Taylorville Moose Lodge # 1516.

Kenneth F. Nation, 86 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 11:10 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on June 5, 1933 in Stonington, IL the son of Isaac and Cora (Ashenhurst) Nation. He married Juanita Fleigle the daughter of Frank and Dorothy Fleigle on January 17, 1953. They just celebrated 67 years of marriage. Kenneth was drafted in April 1953 to serve in the U.S. Army for two years in the Korean Conflict as a Mechanic. After he was discharged, he worked at Allis Chalmers for 2 years and then started farming in the Morrisonville area and surrounding areas. He served on the Farm Bureau Board for 20 years. Kenneth was a member of Grace Baptist Church and he loved the Lord. He was a hardworking, honest, loyal, farmer who loved his profession, wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Juanita Nation of Taylorville, IL; daughter: Karen (Bob) Herman of Morrisonville; son: Bruce (Lori) Nation of Taylorville; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, brothers: Roscoe Nation, Granvel Nation and Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Joyce Nation, eight brothers, two sisters, Ira, Earl, Jack, Ivan, Ernest, Evert, Uldion, Florien, Robert and James.

Catherine Marie “Mick” Sheedy, 88, of Morrisonville, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at her residence.
 
Mick was born July 11, 1931 in Morrisonville, the daughter of Linus and Marie (Millburg) Grundy.  She married Richard “Dick” Sheedy on October 28, 1951 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville.  He preceded her in death on March 25, 2000.

Mick graduated from Morrisonville High School, and spent the majority of her adult life as a homemaker. In her later years, she enjoyed feeding the students at Morrisonville High School and Middle School, as a cook in the school cafeteria.  Mick was a lifelong member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, longtime member of the Altar and Rosary Society, National Association of Foresters, Morrisonville Community Club, the American Legion Post #721 Auxiliary, and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Post #1151, where for many years she cooked for their monthly meals.  She was dedicated to her community and her church, and would help with any function and fundraiser.  Mick was an avid Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini fan.  

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Patrick and David Sheedy; grandchildren, Gabriel Webb and Kayla Bethard; great granddaughter, Alli Bethard; sisters, Barbara “Babe” Todt and Theresa Seelbach; and brothers, John Robert and Wayne L. Grundy.

Barbara Jean Humphrey, 89, of Taylorville, passed away at 2:05a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020 in her home.  She was born on December 21, 1930 in Taylorville, the daughter of Homer H. and Helen H. (Hord) Corzine.  She married James C. Humphrey on August 26, 1951 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1984.  Mrs. Humphrey was a homemaker and previously served as secretary at Davis Memorial Christian Church and later as secretary for Taylorville Mayor Dick Adams.  Barbara was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship.  She enjoyed playing bridge and had many volunteer roles throughout her life including serving as an election judge, Red Cross blood drive volunteer, delivering Meals on Wheels, and a mentor in the Taylorville schools.  Above all she loved her family and spending as much time with them as she could.

Barbara is survived by her children: Pam Peabody (Dean) of Taylorville, Peggy Peabody of North Aurora, James Humphrey (Darcy) of Taylorville, and Helen Nothdurft (Steve) of Downers Grove; grandchildren: Kate Pfiffner (Shawn), Angela Peabody (fiancé Jeremy Williams), James J Humphrey, Maggie Daniels (Chris), Drew Peabody (Lisa), Elizabeth Humphrey, Ethan Humphrey, and Kimberly Nothdurft; 13 grandchildren; sister-in-law: Lynda Humphrey of Springfield; and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law: David Peabody; and brother: Ronald Corzine.

Martha Louise DeSantis, 59, of Nokomis, passed away at 5:54 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Martha was born October 13, 1960 in Deland, FL, the daughter of Ralph E. and Mary L. (Hickox) Rosser.  She graduated from Umatilla High School in Florida, and went on to graduate first in her class from Daytona Beach College. Martha was brilliant, and always wanted to continue learning.  She worked for many years as a nurse in Florida, as well as for Meadow Manor and Taylorville Memorial Hospital. Martha’s life was her music and her beloved animals.  She enjoyed listening to music, and playing guitar.  Most of all, she loved raising her peacocks and kittens.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Rose.

Martha is survived by her loving companion of 30 years Richard Rose of Nokomis; daughters, Amanda (husband, Steven) Nelson of Oswego, and Jaclyn (husband, Sam) Bajrami of Kincaid; son, Robert Rose of Nokomis; grandchildren, Alivia, Ethan, and Elijah Nelson of Oswego, and Max Bajrami of Kincaid; parents, Ralph and Mary Rosser of Kincaid; sister, Susan Rosser of Pine Lakes, FL and her children, Brianna Rosser and Jacob Hokaszewski; mother-in-law, Betty Rose of Taylorville; sisters-in-law, Debbie (husband, William) Breckenridge of Lewistown, IL, and Diana Scarpaci of Taylorville; and brother-in-law, Dan Rose of Taylorville.

William (Bill) Green Ford, age 88, of Taylorville, Illinois, died at 3:08 a.m. on March 9, 2020 in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born January 15, 1932, near Bumpus Mills, Tennessee, the son of John and Helen Ford. He married Linda Dawn Cremer on November 20, 1971 in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tennessee in 1967 and from Sangamon State University with an M.A. degree in 1976. He taught elementary and junior high students for thirty-five years in Tennessee and Illinois.  The last twenty-eight years of his career were in Edinburg, Illinois school system.  He was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church.

Bill received Jesus as his savior when he was seventeen years old and was faithful to share his understanding of Christian salvation with his children and wife.  He loved to be in the presence of his children and grandchildren and great grand child (Gabriella) and those who knew him found that he had a seemingly endless repertoire of memorized songs, lyrics, poems, and quaint and whimsical Tennessee expressions and humor.  He had a penchant for nicknaming those with whom he became familiar, much to their delight.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, and two daughters: Dee(husband Larry) Franz of Decatur, Illinois and Mary (husband Robert) Collier of Springfield, Illinois; three grandchildren: LaRee (wife Jenny) Ford Jackson of Decatur, Illinois, Robby(wife Sydney) Collier of Springfield, Illinois, and Caleb Hornback Ford also of Springfield, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Gabriella Collier and Havyn Jackson and siblings: Francis Taylor, Mike Ford, Eddie Ford, and Ricky Ford, all of Tennessee and Sam Ford of Pana, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Carol Quinn (Ford), his son, Larry H. Ford, brothers: Don Ford and Danny Ford and his parents.

Donald L. Stivers, 60, of Taylorville went to be with the Lord at 1:45p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born on September 20, 1959 in Beaufort, South Carolina, the son of Kenneth Leroy Stivers and Janet (Napier) Stivers.  He married Deborah Fleming on October 14, 1991 in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2005.  Don was a 1978 graduate of Stonington High School and later became the Police Chief of Stonington.  He worked in automobile service for many years for Max Klemm as well at Trinity.  Most recently he worked several years for MBM and was currently a manager at the Taylorville Wal-Mart.  He was a member of the Stonington First Baptist Church and had a love for animals.  Don’s life-long passion was cars.  He thoroughly enjoyed all the cars he owned through the years and was known for the meticulous care he took of his vehicles.  Don was loved people and never knew a stranger.  More than anything, Don was devoted to his family.  

He is survived by his mother: Jan Stivers-Pugh of Taylorville; sister: Penny Stivers of Decatur; sons: Brandon Boaden (Patrice) of Oregon and Bryce Boaden of Taylorville; 4 grandchildren; and special friend: Denise.  He was preceded in death by his father, wife, grandparents, and uncles.

The funeral service for Mr. Stivers will be held at 10:00a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Tim Moats officiating. Burial will take place in the Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Caroline Catherine Thompson, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Life's Journey in Taylorville, Ill.  She was born in Taylorville, Illinois on Sept. 28, 1930, the daughter of Ralph and Lora Bell (Huddleston) Tarrant.  She married Albert R. Thompson Sr. on August 31, 1952 in Stonington, IL and he preceded her in death on August 2, 2009. She retired from the Christian County Court house after 10 years, and she also carried papers for the Breeze Courier. 

She is survived by children, Becky (Terry) of MN. Albert Jr (Laura) Mn, David, Mn, Charles (Debra) Ill, Sally, Ill, Dale Mn, her brother, Larry Neidigh (Wanda) Fl.. She loved her many 'Grandbabies ' (as she called them all) Great Grandbabies, and Great Great Grandbabies. Caroline is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lora Bell Tarrant, brothers, Johnny, Harlow, Joe, LeeDon, and Dean, sisters-Barbara Ann and Myrtle Corrine, sister-in-laws, Josephine, Shirley, Mae Tarrant and Carol Walker, her son, Joe Vail, Grandsons Tyler Cox and Chadwick Germain.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Patricia Ann Reber, 83 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 3:00 a.m. at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on December 26, 1936 in Kincaid, IL the daughter of Ross and Lyda Mae (Byers) Williams. She married Richard Reber Sr. on February 12, 1954 in Kincaid, IL and they later divorced. Pat retired from Sangamon Card Company.

She is survived by her Sons: Richard Reber Jr. of Taylorville, IL; John Reber of Bethany, IL; Michael Reber of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Carol Rathgeber of Taylorville and Lynn Wicker of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Kristen Brinkmann, Kaylene Reber, Damon Rathgeber, David Ostrowsky, Casssandra Jeager, Jenny Niedbalski, Jacob Reber and Lydie Reber; Great-Grandchildren: Owen Brinkmann, Kylan Warren, Emma Weller, Jaina Rathgeber, Paul Rathgeber, Violet Rathgeber, Charlotte Niedbalski, Claire Niedbalski, Jonathan Reber, Cameron Reber; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson: Aaron Rathgeber, brothers: Donald and Jack Williams, sisters: Martha Beaman and Shirley Deweese. 

Pat will be cremated and she requested no services to be held. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Kay Myers, 71 of Stonington passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:20 p.m. at her home in Stonington, IL surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 4, 1949 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Joe and Opal (Barham) Coleman. She married John L. Myers on August 28, 1967 in Taylorville, IL and he preceded her in death on December 28, 2011. Kay retired as a custodian from the Stonington School. She was a wonderful mother, and grandmother to her family and to many children at the school.

She is survived by her Son: John A. (Robin) Myers of Mattoon, IL; Granddaughters: Kayla Myers of Champaign, IL and Cydney Myers of Mattoon, IL; Brothers: David (Mary) Coleman of Decatur, IL; Sisters: Vera (George) Thomason of Stonington, IL, Pearl (Eldon) Weaver of Taylorville, IL and Barbara Coleman of Decatur, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Charlie, Donald and John Coleman; Sisters: Sue Farrell and Phyllis Blades. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home with Albert Walters officiating. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, IL.

Lieutenant Colonel James Paul Markwell (Retired, US Army Reserves), 89 of Taylorville, passed away at 1:26p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.  He was born on August 24, 1930 in Stonington, the son of Ray and Sarah (Coffey) Markwell.  He married Merle Kaegy on May 9, 1956 in Tokyo, Japan.  Jim graduated from the University of Illinois in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in science and agriculture as well as a 4-year ROTC obligation.  Upon graduation he was assigned to Ft. Polk as a platoon leader and tank commander with the 37th Calvary.  He was then given orders to be stationed in Japan at Camp Fuji where the served the 7th Calvary and 7th Tank Battalion.  Following his time in Japan he was assigned to Ft. Knox before being transferred to Regensburg, Germany.  He then served the 5th Army Advisory Group in Urbana and the 303rd Ordinance Group in Springfield before his retirement as Lieutenant Colonel with the US Army Reserves in 1975.  In 1971, when Jim moved to Taylorville, he began working for Country Companies Insurance before becoming partners in Kinsella, McNeely, Ryan, and Markwell (KMRM).  He retired from the insurance business in 1996.  Jim was an active member in the Taylorville First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was a member of United Methodist Men.  He was also a long-time member of the Taylorville VFW and Optimist Club.  Jim was a very active volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for 40+ years.  He held numerous roles at both the local and council level and was awarded the Silver Beaver, the highest award for scouters at the council level.  His involvement with scouting had an enormous impact on the lives of countless boys around the area.  In his free time, Jim loved to spend time with his family.  Fishing in the North Woods, especially with his sons and grandsons, was always one of his favorite activities.  

Jim is survived by his wife: Merle Markwell of Taylorville; children: Roni Markwell-McDaniels of Swansea, Fred Markwell (Sandy) of Edwardsville, Steve Markwell (Beth) of Taylorville, and Dan Markwell (Renee) of Springfield; grandchildren: Kelsey Ryan (Patrick), Lindsay McDaniels, Sarah Loving (Steven), Logan Markwell, Grace Markwell, Luke Markwell, and Emma Markwell; great grandchildren: Atlas Ryan and Tahlia Ryan; sister-in-law: Eileen Markwell of St. Petersburg, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson: Jonathon Ray Markwell; son-in-law: Henry McDaniels; brothers: Norman Markwell, Gail Markwell, Lynn “Soap” Markwell, and Albert “Rusty” Markwell; and sister: Lois Morphew.

Webster “Doc” Allen Sr., 76 of Kincaid passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 2:36 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 16, 1943 in Mt. Pulaski, IL the son of George and Mary (Smith) Allen. He married Linda Humphrey on September 10, 1966 in Springfield, IL. Doc was a member of the Christian County Senior Citizens Centers. He loved to fish and be on the river/lake. He also loved to collect and play Santa at Christmas time.

He is survived by his Wife: Linda Allen of Kincaid, IL; Daughters: Missy Allen (Danny Wright) of Riverton, IL; Carol Bixler-Allen of Taylorville, IL; Monica Allen (Dennis Beer) of Irvington, IL; Grandchildren: Daniel (Tiffany) Wright, Lisa (D.J.) Mathon, Mitchel Wright, Kayla McClanahan, Keyawna McClanahan, Loretta (Chris) Gyorkos, Katelyn Snyder, Myanna Allen; Great-Grandchildren: Jaden, Kyson, Lydia, Layla, Rylee, Wyatt, Vayda, Gage, Vuitton; Sisters: Louise, Dorothy “Dot” and Maritta; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Paula J. Burkhart, 88 of Taylorville, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 10:15 a.m. at her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 25, 1931 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Samuel Curtis Rush and Emma Paula (Ficker) Cryer. She married Donald E. Burkhart Sr. in Blue Mound, IL and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2012. Paula was a member of the Taylorville United Methodist Church and the Christian County Senior Center. She loved camping, gardening and her farm. She loved her children, grandchildren and family. 

 She is survived by her Sons: Donald (Carolyn) Burkhart Jr. of Blue Mound, IL and William (Cherie) Burkhart of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Diane Marts of Taylorville, IL, Becky (George) Buerk of Owaneco, IL and Debbie Burkhart of Charleston, IL; Fourteen Grandchildren; Twenty-Four Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Rush and Emma (John) Cryer, husband Donald E. Burkhart, son: Robert Dale Burkhart, 1 brother and 3 sisters. 

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, IL with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.

Mr. Chesley E. Orrison, Sr. 87, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 2:45 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2020 at home in Kincaid.
He was born in Tahona, OK on Wednesday, October 5, 1932 the son of Robert James and Nora Ann (Brewer) Orrison.  He graduated from Welch West Virginia High School with the class of 1951.  Chesley honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956.  Mr. Orrison married Miss Rose Pulice, February 4, 1956 in the Chapel By The Sun at the Naval Hospital in Newport, RI.  Rose preceded him in death September 18, 2011.

Mr. Orrison was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, Kincaid.  He retired from Caterpillar Tractor after 37 years in 1989.  Chesley was baptized by Fr. Hughes and took his First Communion in 1960.  He loved fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  Mr. Orrison also enjoyed going to sporting events and gardening in the back yard.  He was a member of the Sangchris Bass Club.

Surviving are: a daughter Elizabeth (husband John) Halbert of Kincaid, IL 2 sons Robert (wife Cindy) Orrison of Kincaid, IL and Chesley E. Orrison, Jr of Tovey, IL 6 grandchildren Audra Smith, Melissa (Tim) Corso, Zachary (Rikki) Orrison, Erica (Nik) Harris, Dylan Orrison and Autumn Orrison, great-grandchildren Dalton, Allison, Tyler, Hannah, Tage, Remington, Pystol, Adalyn, and Wade, 2 great-great granddaughters Kinlee and Evylinn along with a sister Nella Sampson of Sapulpa, OK and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Orrison was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rose, 4 brothers John Robert, Joe, Jack and Billy Orrison and 2 sisters Patricia Darneal and Margaret LaVerne Grobosky.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid.  Monsignor David Lantz will officiate.  Burial will follow in Edinburg Cemetery.  Visitation for Mr. Chesley E. Orrison Sr. will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rita’s.  Masterson Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Kincaid is honored to be entrusted with his care.

Harold “Bud” Coy, 80 of Taylorville, passed at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville. 

Bud was born on July 17, 1939 in Stonington, the son of Harold and Myrtle (Enlow) Coy. He served his country proudly in the Unites States Air Force for 6 years. While in the Air Force, Bud learned the skill of mechanic, a trade which he enjoyed for many years before working as a Boiler Maker for Georgia-Pacific. Bud was an outgoing man who kept busy, and truly enjoyed his time with his family. He will be dearly missed. 

He is survived by his 6 children: James (Rebecca) Coy of Arizona; Christina Coy-Gonzalez of Arizona; Shane Coy of Alabama; Tracie Coy of Champaign; Brad Coy of Mississippi; and Aaron Coy of Taylorville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Larry Coy, Richard Coy, John Coy, Marilyn Cline, Carol Boone; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Robert Jones, one sister: Linda McCarty, and his granddaughter: Marissa Coy. 

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 7, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Parks officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Sherie Lynn Durbin, 61, of Taylorville passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Sherie was born September 18, 1958 in Springfield, the daughter of James L. Miller and Laura (Rathbone) Miller Sprague.
Sherie worked for Kroger and Wal-Mart in Taylorville.  She loved her family, and everyone that she knew.  Sherie was a good hearted and loving person, that will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael D. Durbin; step-son, Michael J. Durbin; sister, Sheila Miller; and brothers, Mark, Brian, and Patrick Miller.

Sherie is survived by her brother, Rodney (wife, Carla) Miller, Sr. of Springfield; companion, Robbie Sparling of Springfield; step-children, Jared and Kayla Durbin of Taylorville; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568, with Rev. Billy Bob Howard officiating.

Interment will follow the ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Joe L. Dozier, 56, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:22 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL.

Joe was born March 2, 1963 in Taylorville, the son of Bernard and Ruth (Guthrie) Dozier.  He married Dorinda J. Hall on May 18, 2001 in South Carolina.

Joe graduated from Morrisonville High School, and went on receive certifications as a diesel mechanic and electrician.  He was currently employed by Fitzgerald, where he was a forklift technician and mechanic.  Joe loved camping, fishing, wood working, and listening to the blues.  In his younger years, he loved to ride his Harley Davidson.

Joe is survived by his wife, Dorinda J. Dozier of Taylorville; daughter, Jinnie (fiancé, Joseph Wietekamp) Ethridge of Taylorville; son, Travis Ethridge of Taylorville; grandchildren, Dakota Hudson and Ryann Ethridge, both of Taylorville; mother, Ruth Dozier of Springfield; father, Bernard (wife, Thelma) Dozier of Springfield; brother, Jason (wife, Barb) Dozier of Chatham; niece, Elsie Dozier of Chatham; uncle, Duane Dozier of Taylorville; and several cousins.

Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
