Rusty Rahar, 56, of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on November 18, 1969, to Gretta and Barry Rahar, Rusty was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, proud grandfather, and faithful friend. He lived life with a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time at the lake. Some of his happiest moments were spent in a tree stand during deer season, casting a line at the lake, and simply living in the moment with those he loved most.

Rusty will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his bright smile, and his genuine love of conversation. He never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel heard, valued, and welcome. His kind heart, sense of humor, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures were just a few of the many gifts experienced by those fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Hill-Rahar; his daughter, Elizabeth (Sarah) Rahar of Foley, Alabama; his stepdaughter, Hillary (Seth) Ferrill-Groves of San Jose, Illinois; his mother, Gretta Merriman-Seimers of Taylorville, Illinois; his father, Barry (Lola) Rahar of Springfield, Missouri; his sister, Rachel Rahar of Taylorville, Illinois; his beloved grandchildren, Mikiyah Mills, Austin Clayton, Devion Austin, Myanna Austin, Keyaira Jackson, Adilyn Ginger, great grandchildren, Sadie Miller, Toby Miller, and Arius Miller, all of Foley, Alabama; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Derald (Norma) Merriman, and Charles (Eva) Rahar, his uncle, Sam Merriman and his cousin, Billy Rahar.

Though Rusty is no longer with us, his love, laughter, gift of conversation, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to bring smiles to those fortunate enough to have shared in his life.

A visitation will be held at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville on Saturday June, 20th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with funeral services immediately following. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Robert S. “Bob” Brown, 69 of Taylorville, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born on February 10, 1957, in Taylorville, the son of William J. and Rosemary (Arneson) Brown.  He married Julie Ann Thomas on September 16, 1977, in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2021.  Bob graduated from Taylorville High School and attended the Whirlpool Tech School in Benton Harbor, Michigan, before joining the family business of Brown and Son’s.  For many years he also owned and operated Brown Appliance Service.  Bob was a talented repairman not only of home appliances but also spent years repairing and refurbishing coin operated amusements, especially pinball machines.  He also was a gifted neon sign craftsman and enjoyed restoring vintage small engines.  No matter what the project was, Bob was passionate about authentically refurbishing anything he worked on.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, working on model aircraft, and had a special place in his heart for animals. 

He is survived by his children: Stephen Brown (Genesis) of Roscoe, Susie Brown (Brad Sims) of Batavia, and Danny Brown (Laura) of Springfield; grandchildren: Rebecca Brown, Renee Brown, Maxx Brown, Lucas Brown, and Owen Brown; siblings: William M. “Bill” Brown of Irvine, California, Mary Anne Oller (Jeff) of Houston, Texas, and Kathleen E. “Kathy” Driskell (Dave) of Taylorville; close cousin: Diane Brown of Taylorville; and partner: Jenny Saer.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother: Stephen L. Brown; and sister: Rita Werner. 

A funeral service for Bob will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at McClure Funeral Home.  The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, and memorials may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Sandra S Miller, 70 of Pana, died at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, peacefully in her home with her family by her side.  She was born on July 17, 1955, in Pana, the daughter of the late William J. Lynch Jr. and Marilyn Magness Stewart.  Sandra was a graduate of Pana High School, class of 1973.  She lived in Pana her entire life.  She was employed at Imperial Bondware and was a private caregiver.  Sandra loved music, gardening, doing puzzles and spending time with her family.

Sandra is survived by her daughter: Tawana Manion Jacobs of Pana; grandchildren: Dirk Taylor, wife Samantha, of Pana, Rachel Ray, partner Jeremy, of Highland, Dalton Daniels of Pana, Webber Jacobs of Ohlman; 9 great grandchildren; siblings: Michael Manion of Pana, Diane Kroenlein of Pana, Patty Patrick of Litchfield, Lynn Perkins Lynch, husband, husband Neil, of Pana, and Don Lynch, wife Suzy, of Pana.  She was preceded in death by her parents; step-dad: William Robert “Bob” Manion; grandson: Tanner Jacobs of Pana; brothers: Tim Manion of Mexico, Mark Nirider of Monticello, William J. “Billy” Lynch III of Pana, and Nancy Manion Garren of Taylorville.

Mr. Jewell F. Johnson, 76, of Springfield, IL passed from this life at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Springfield, Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Springfield, IL on February 22, 1950 the son of Lorena Johnson.  Mr. Johnson married Barbara Ann Szoylar on August 19, 1996 in Decatur, IL.

Jewell retired after working many years for the Illinois Secretary of State.  He attended the Midland United Methodist Church and Springfield United Methodist.  Mr. Johnson loved old movies and walking for his health around his neighborhood.  He loved his wife Barb to no end and cats too.  Jewell enjoyed his neighbors and never met a stranger because he also loved to talk.  He honorable served his country during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his loving wife Barbara Johnson of Springfield, IL along with many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother. 

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors by the United States Army and the Inter Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will be held at 11:00 A.M. - Tuesday, June 16 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL followed by committal prayers by Rev. Lindsey Young of the Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL.  

Billy D. “Bill” Morehead, 91, of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Imboden Creek Senior Living & Rehab in Decatur.

Bill was born November 8, 1934, in Johnson Township, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Lois (VanHuss) Morehead. He married Rozetta on September 5, 1954, and she preceded him in death on May 29, 1974. He later married Bette Jo on May 4, 1990, and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2025.

Bill received his electrician training from Coyne College and enjoyed a long career as an electrician and supervisor for Georgia Pacific. He also worked briefly as a real estate agent for Curvey Real Estate and later served the Taylorville community as a school bus driver for 11 years. Throughout his life, Bill spent countless hours doing yard work, woodworking, and electrical projects. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing, collecting antiques, and spending time with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his son, Larry (Marilyn) Morehead of Decatur; grandchildren, Nicholas (Simona) Morehead of Decatur and Brian (Rachel) Morehead of Mt. Zion; great-grandchildren, J.D. and Lucas Morehead; and brother, Jim Morehead of Sun City, Arizona.

In addition to his wives, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Morehead; grandson, Jason Morehead; great-granddaughter, Piper Morehead; brothers, David and Harold “Ray” Morehead; and sister-in-law, Pat Morehead.

In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation has been accorded. Private family ceremonies will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Jose Cabello Jr., 86, passed away on Sunday, June 7, at Litchfield Health and Rehab. He was born on February 3, 1940, in Litchfield, Illinois, to Jose Sr. and Vivian (Groner) Cabello.

 Jose proudly served his country in the Air National Guard from 1963-1969 before returning to civilian life and starting a family. He worked as a heating and air conditioning repair technician for 35 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and he also served with the Witt Fire Department.

In his spare time, Joe enjoyed spending time in the garage with his son, woodworking, and being outdoors. He dearly loved his family and his dog.

 He is survived by his son, Jose (Diane) Cabello III. of Irving, Illinois; three grandchildren, Kirsten (Christopher) Wood, Mathew Funneman, and Collin (Kennedy) Funneman; and three great-grandchildren, Brandt Wood, Knox Funneman, and Harper Funneman.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Sr. and Vivian Cabello, and his sister and brother-in-law, Marla and Kenneth Mowery.

 Arrangements are under the care of Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, Illinois.

 Per his request, no formal visitation or funeral will be held.  The family will celebrate privately at a later date.

Albert “George” Morris, 80 of Taylorville, formerly of Nashville, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026, in his home.  He was born on April 3, 1946, in Litchfield, the son of Albert H. and Ann (Zupsich) Morris.  He married Deborah Lynne Hoecker in February of 1971, and she preceded him in death.  George graduated from Taylorville High School in 1965 where he enjoyed playing baseball and was later inducted into the Taylorville High School Sports Hall of Fame.  He went on to attend the University of Rolla where he played football and later earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.  George had a long career in coal mining, having worked for Peabody Mine #10 and later for the West Virginia Federal 2 Mine until 1993.  He then went on to work for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources where he retired in 2012 and moved back to Taylorville.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting, traveling to visit his family, and trying his luck at the slot machines. 

He is survived by children: Dr. Stanley Morris (Cheri) of Summersville, West Virginia, Lisa Morris Stiltner of St. Albans, West Virginia, Robert “Bob” Morris (Jessica) of Morgantown, Indiana, Matt Morris (Leah) of Gold Beach, Oregon, and Chrissy Morris of Terre Haute, Indiana; grandchildren: Zoe Katherine Adkins, Penelope Morris Adkins, Katherine Morris, Mia Morris, Luke Morris, Maddox Morris, and Jada Morris; siblings: Stanley Morris (Lavonne) of Coulterville, Illinois and Patty Andrews of Conroe, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister: Eloise Wachala.

George will be cremated and a memorial mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. John Burnette officiating.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Gillespie.  A visitation will take place on Sunday, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville followed by a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Debra Diana (Alford) Frye, 75, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at her residence. She was born on June 1, 1951, in Anderson, IN, to Robert W. Alford and Eudella Clovine Luse. On October 21, 1972, she married Randy L. Frye in Anderson, IN. They spent many loving years together and he survives.

Debbie worked for Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indiana as a typist for several years. She later enjoyed working at the daycare for Camp One Way and was employed at the Blue Mound Leader. In addition, she worked for the Breeze Courier of Taylorville. Debbie was strong in her faith and was an active member of Bethany Christian Church, Mt. Auburn Church of Christ, as well as Taylorville Christian Church where she worked for 17 years. Aside from work, Debbie loved traveling, playing golf, and visiting with family. She is missed dearly by her loved ones and will be remembered for her strong faith, hard work ethic, and the kindness she showed to everyone.

Surviving is her husband: Randy Frye of Taylorville, IL; sons: JB (Misty) Frye of Taylorville, IL; Justin (Amy) Frye of Arlington, TX; grandson: Zander Frye of Champaign, IL; sister: Sherry (Stan) Kincaid of Penelton, IN; brother: Richard (Pashia) Sheridan of Tennessee; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Debbie is reunited with her sister, Darlene Lamb.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Taylorville Christian Church. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor James Jones officiating.

Memorials in her honor may be graciously made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mary Agnes Simpson, 101 of Taylorville, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, in her home.  She was born on March 26, 1925, in Taylorville, the daughter of Ernest and Frances (Babich) Simpson.  Mary Agnes graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1943.  She retired from Hopper Paper Company (Georgia Pacific) after working in the accounting department for 42 years. 

She is survived by her great niece: Christina Rogers and great-great niece Vivian Wertz (Hayden).  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Patricia Simpson; brother: Richard Simpson; and niece: Diane Simpson Anderson.

Mary Agnes will be cremated, and a private family inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Robert John Williams was called home to his God at 6:30 a.m., June 5, 2026.   His caring cousins were at his side. 

Robert was born March 16, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John Derek Williams and Rosemary Agnes (May) Williams.  He moved to Athens, Illinois, as a toddler and then on to Springfield.   He spent the last few years of his life in Taylorville, Illinois. 

Robert graduated from Edwin A. Lee High School in Springfield. He loved having a job.  He spent many years with the SPARC program working as a housekeeper at Comfort Suites. 

He was involved with Special Olympics from an early age. He participated in bowling, bocce ball, and snowshoeing as well as many other sporting events. He excelled in swimming and was an athlete at the 1999 Special Olympics world games held in North Carolina, where he won four medals. 

He was a member of Scout Troop 312 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. 

He was a member of the St Aloysius Church, was an altar boy, attended religion classes at Blessed Sacrament, and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. 

Robert was a diehard sports fan.  He rooted for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, the Fighting Illini, and Notre Dame. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling. 

He loved playing his CD’s, watching old shows and reading.  Harry Potter was a favorite. 

More than anything, Robert loved his family. He had a remarkable gift for remembering everyone’s name, birthday, and relationship to each other.  He was also known for his kind spirit, enthusiasm for life, and the joy he found in spending time with others. 

He was preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Rosemary, and his brother, Michael. 

He is survived by his loving aunts, cousins, niece, nephew and a multitude of friends. 

Our thanks go out to Hands of God Hospice who showed both Robert and his family endless love and caring. 

Arrangements are under the care of Sutton Memorial Home, 327 N. Clay St., Taylorville, IL. A prayer service and sharing of stories will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 4:00 p.m.,  with visitation to follow. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m.,  at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 116 W. Adams St., Taylorville.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery  in Springfield, IL.

Carol Anne Weir, 88 of Taylorville, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in her home.  She was born on March 18, 1938, in Vancouver, British Columbia, the daughter of Otto Herbert and Florence Lillian Haltalin.  She married John Weir on September 7, 1962, in Vancouver.  Carol graduated from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor’s degree and earned her RN from Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield.  She worked for over 25 years in cardiology at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield and for over 20 years she volunteered at Taylorville Memorial Hospital as well as a volunteer ombudsman for the Illinois Department of Aging.  She enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially as she tended to her garden. 

She is survived by her husband: John Weir of Taylorville; children: Lauren Stoll (Derek) of Kincaid, Illinois and Michael Weir (Zena) of Aurora, Illinois; grandsons: Luc Weir and Ben Weir; granddaughter: Caitlin Bustamante (Michael) and great-grandson: Flynn Mackay Bustamante.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Thomas Edward Doyle Jr., 75 of Taylorville, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Taylorville Care Center.  He was born on August 9, 1950, in Taylorville, the son of Thomas Edward and Dorothy Adrienne (Gulso) Doyle Sr.  He married Gail MacLaren on October 9, 1981, in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2020.  Tom graduated from the University of Illinois and earned his law degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.  He operated his own law practice in Taylorville for over 50 years.  Tom was a lifelong student of history with a particular passion for the Civil War. An avid reader and Civil War aficionado, he generously shared his knowledge through his volunteer work at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. He enjoyed following horse racing, cheering on University of Illinois athletics, and rooting for his beloved Chicago Cubs. Tom was also an active member of a Civil War Roundtable, where he enjoyed learning, discussing history, and building lasting friendships with fellow enthusiasts. His curiosity, dedication, and love of history enriched the lives of all who knew him.

He is survived by his step-sons: Sean Derrick (Carla) of Edwardsville and Steven Derrick (Marcy) of Russellville, Alabama; grandchildren: Kiah Derrick, Tiana Derrick, and Lakin Derrick; siblings: Mary Dettro of Stonington, Marge Doyle of Chatham, Nancy Doyle of Stonington, and Ann Doyle (Tod Anderson) of Normal; niece and nephews: Emily Tesar of Billings, MT, Doyle Dettro (Nnenna) of Chatham, and Tom Anderson of Normal; and great nieces and nephews: Jack Dettro, Eva Dettro, Max Dettro, and Gabby Tesar.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Mary Lou Fleigle, 99 of Morrisonville, passed away at 2:07 AM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on December 12, 1926, in Morrisonville, the daughter of Adam and Alma Elizabeth (Schmidt) May.

Mary Lou graduated from Stonington High School. She married William Martin Fleigle on June 19, 1948, in Stonington. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2001. Mary Lou was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church where she served on the Altar & Rosary Society. She had previously been active with the National Catholic Society of Foresters and the American Legion Auxiliary in Morrisonville. Mary Lou enjoyed playing pinochle and bunco, bowling, puzzles, word searches and doing crossword puzzles. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan, enjoyed snacking on jellybeans, and adored spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her children, Rose (John) Ferrill, Larry Fleigle and Francis Fleigle all of Morrisonville, and Phillip (Carla) Fleigle of Heyworth, IL; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; stepbrothers, John (Irene) May of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, William; children: Mary Margaret Fleigle and Michael Fleigle; brothers: Joe May and Gerald May; sister: Bernadine Clark; stepbrother: Bernard May; and daughters-in-law: Susan Fleigle and Brenda Fleigle.

A funeral mass for Mary Lou will take place at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville with Fr. Florent Kanga officiating. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in St. Maurice Cemetery.

Mr. Edward D. Bialas, 87, of Tovey, IL passed from this life at 7:44 AM on Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

He was born in Tovey, IL on Friday, July 15, 1938, the son of Antoni and Antonina (Kozdeba) Bialas.

Mr. Bialas worked for just a couple years early on at Peabody Mine #10. He spent most of his working career at Allis-Chalmers in Springfield, IL which is where he retired from.  He later worked in the construction business.

Edward enjoyed playing bocce ball, fishing, hunting, camping in his RV, traveling, and having a good time with his friends and family.  Mr. Bialas was formerly very active with HAM radio.  He won 2^nd place in 1990 at the Kincaid Labor Day car show with his DeLorean and 1^st place there in 1991 with his Corvette.

Surviving are his sister Rose Coady of Taylorville, IL along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece and great-great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers John and Amiel “Moe” Bialas.

John R. Dudra, 72 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 5:45 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. He was born on May 3, 1954, in Pana, IL, the son of John J. Dudra and Elizabeth (Kronshagen). He married Lisa Miller on July 3, 1976, in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2005. John was a musician all of his life and was a member of several bands. He was an avid reader, he loved fishing with his grandsons and he was a man of faith.

John is survived by his Daughter Jessica Augustine (Steven McCoy) of Taylorville, IL; Son: Joshua Dudra of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Connor Dudra and Kellen Augustine; Sister: Crystal Farris of Pana, IL; Brother-in-Law: GJ. (Molly) Miller of Edwardsville, IL; his beloved fur babies: Crunch, Cuddles and Fritzie; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Zaydin Dudra and Sister: Donna Maninfor.    

John will be cremated; there will be no services at this time. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date.

Susan K. Jackson, 64, of Taylorville, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

Susan was born April 17, 1962, in Taylorville, the daughter of Charles and Joann (Smith) Garner.  She was a member of the 1980 Taylorville High School graduating class.  She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Eureka College.  Susan married Alan Jackson on October 10, 1987.

A 2^nd and 3^rd grade teacher, Susan taught in Taylorville schools for over 31 years.  She was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church.  Susan loved spending time with her family and her pride and joy was her only granddaughter, Charlotte.  She also enjoyed traveling, both stateside and throughout Europe.

Susan is survived by her husband, Alan Jackson of Taylorville; one son, Blake (Melanie) Jackson of Taylorville; granddaughter, Charlotte Jackson; cousins, Kirk (Beth) Danko of Pella, IA, Troy (Julie) Danko of Texas, Mike (Dawn) Smith and Greg Smith of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by parents and three aunts, Eleanor Kammerer, Corene Danko, and Chloe Waller; and one uncle, Dave Smith.

Cremation care has been accorded.  A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Jonathon Newlin officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Teacher’s Education Association or Davis Memorial Christian Church.

Reta Rose Pritchett, 93, of Taylorville, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Taylorville Care Center. 

Reta was born February 28, 1933, in Vandalia, MO, at home, the daughter of Byron and Katie (Oestreich) Smith. She graduated from Farber High School in Farber, MO.  She met the love of her life, John “Jack” Hugo Pritchett in Vandalia, MO.  They were married on January 9, 1954.

Reta and Jack lived in Decatur from 1954 to 1960 and then moved to Taylorville. Reta was the kitchen manager at South School in Taylorville for many years and had previously worked at Hewitt School . She was a founding member of Grace Baptist Church, where she taught the Beginner’s Sunday School Class with her husband. Reta quietly and faithfully served in many capacities in the church. When not volunteering at church, Reta loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Donald A. (Cynthia Rambo) Pritchett of Decatur and Ronald (Kelly) Pritchett of Taylorville; two granddaughters, Marguerita (Maggi) Pritchett of Taylorville and Rossi Pritchett of Edinburg; one brother, Fred Smith of Mexico, MO; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Reta was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jack Pritchett and her parents.

Visitation will be at Grace Baptist Church, Taylorville, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 11:00 am – 12:15 pm with service immediately following. Burial will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, Illinois.

John P. Speiser, 77 of Witt passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 2:01 p.m. at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. He was born on August 16, 1948, in Pana, IL, the son of John W. and Ruth (Hines) Speiser. He married Connee Cain in May of 1967 in St. Charles; MO. John worked for Illinois Consolidated for 10 years and then farmed for the rest of his career. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for the Witt Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Hillsboro. He especially loved to hunt and fish with hos friends.  

John is survived by his daughters: Stephanie Speiser of Murphysboro and Rebecca Styron of California; son: Phil (Jodi) Speiser of Witt; grandchildren: Hollis Styron and William and Hope Speiser; niece: Melissa Powell and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Ruth Ann Harston.

John will be cremated. A Celebration of life and Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Robert Elmer Schommer, 72 of Taylorville passed away May 29, 2026 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He was born July 30, 1953, in Germany, the son of Elmer and Letizia (Nassoni) Schommer.

Robert graduated from the Taylorville High School in 1971. He served in the United States Air Force. He married Merline Haughton on October 17, 1975 and they later divorced. He worked at the Georgia Pacific paper mill in Taylorville then later retired from the GSI Group in 2018. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He loved the outdoors, gardening and photography. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his beloved Chicago Cubs, Fighting Illini, Indianapolis Colts and Boston Celtics. Above all, Robert loved his family and friends and his “little buddy” Jameson Boline.

He is survived by his daughter April Schommer of Taylorville; sons David Schommer of Taylorville and John Schommer (Celeste Kannall) of Springfield; sisters: Helen (late Mike) Kennedy of Taylorville, Susan (Steve) Frost of Austin,Texas and Anna Francis of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: Tiara Shull, Tyra Shull, Trevin Shull, Diamond Sewell of Taylorville and Diana Harrington of Saugus, Massachusetts; great grandchildren: Adalynn Knight, Aubree Knight and Asher Shull of Taylorville; Nieces: Lisa (Blake) Tarr of Taylorville, Ashley (Todd) Logsden of Arkansas and Adele Pierce of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Mike Kennedy. He leaves behind many life long friends including Richard “Dick” Orr from Taylorville.

Cremation services will be accorded. A private family graveside service will be conducted at Camp Butler National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Robert Louis Givens, known as Givy to almost everyone who knew him, passed away on May 28, 2026, at Pana Health and Rehab Center.  He was born on July 7, 1948, to Hartzel and Louise Givens of Taylorville.  Their only child was interested in anything outdoors, so naturally he went head-long into the local Boy Scout Troop where he earned many merit badges, awards, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.  Bob was a fan of music of all kinds and learned to play the piano and clarinet.  He took part in a European tour with the Taylorville High School marching band in 1965 and graduated from Taylorville High School in 1966.  Following high school, he attended Eureka College for a couple of years before entering the workforce, and more importantly, meeting the love of his life- Cynthia Bateson.  Bob and Cindy married in 1971 and had the time of their young lives.  They toured the country in their old van, also traveled to Mexico and Canada before settling down in their hometown of Taylorville.  Bob began a long career at the newly built Commonwealth Edison power plant where he worked as an electrician, often working through outages and lots of overtime. 

After 9 years of marriage Bob and Cindy had their only child, Alexis I. Givens in 1980.  Beyond chasing Alexis around with all of her activities, Bob became a member of a canoe club, the CICA.  Bob and his fellow canoe enthusiast trekked down every river in the State of Illinois and many in neighboring states.  For seven years the CICA took the ultimate canoe trip to the Boundary Waters in Ely, Minnesota.  Bob earned the title of “The Admiral” of his group and most of them still refer to him by this title to this day.  Bob retired early from the power plant, and he and Cindy bought a little place in Florda and became snowbirds.

In 2010 Bob lost the love of his life to a year’s long battle with breast cancer.  There was still too much life in Bob for him to follow right away and he continued to vacation in their place in Forida for several more years.  That is where he met Barbara, a magnetic woman from the UP of Michigan who lived just down the street from Bob in Florida.  Barb’s daughter Chris and granddaughters Abby, Tabby, and Gabby all embraced Bob as their own.  Sadly, after only a few years, Bob lost Barb to a long-term fight with breast cancer.  A man’s heart can only take so much.  Unfortunately, that was proven when on May 28th, Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep, hopefully dreaming of his loves.  You finally get to be with your angels Daddy.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Hartzel and Louise Givens and his wife: Cynthia Bateson Givens.  He is survived by his only daughter: Alexis I Givens.

Lyle Reller 93 and Lillian Reller 95 of Taylorville Illinois

Lyle deceased 10/27/2025 Lillian deceased 11/08/2025 They were married January 1990.

Lyle was born to Henry Reller and Viola Wilson Reller. Lyle had two children with his first wife Laura, Steve Reller (Joy) and Rhonda Mclain (Rusty).

He was predeceased by his parents.

Lyle proudly served in the Army during the Korean war. Lyle was a lifetime member of the NRA.  He was a kind man that did so much for others and was loved by everyone.

He is survived by his children, three grandchildren one great grandson and his stepchildren.

Lyle loved spending family time with his children and grandchildren.

Lillian was born to Charles and Caroline Burge Owens.

Lillian had four children with her first husband Bill Ashley SR… Bill Ashley jr. (Shela), Robert Ashley (Jean), Myrna Scritchfield (Jim) and Gary Ashley (Alice). Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Sarah, Three brothers Chuck, David, and Eddie Owens, Two sisters Henrietta Lewis and Georgia Owens.

Lillian is survived by her children, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and her beloved brother Willie Owens of Hernando Florida.

She was an avid bowler and won many trophies. When she got the chance, she would show the grandkids who ruled the bowling alley. She won every time. Lillian loved her flowers and her lawn ornaments.

Lyle and Lillians Love story was like no other. A true fairy tale. Where ever they went they were holding hands and sneaking a kiss.

They volunteered for over 25 years delivering meals on wheels. Lillian and Lyle love their church Trinity Lutheran of Taylorville. They volunteered at the food pantry at their church. They enjoyed cleaning Gods house.  Lillian loved making cards for the shutins and being involved in the womens ministries. Besides loving one another they loved their dogs Missy Dolly and Polly.

Lyle and Lillian will be missed so very much. But they will rest easy and dwell in the house of the lord forever. Donation may be made to Trinity Lutheran church Taylorville or Meals on Wheels.

Ramona Mae Grundy, 94 of Morrisonville, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Taylorville Care Center. 

Ramona was born on February 14, 1932, in Peru Township, near Shelbyville, the only child of Hersheal and Imogene (Hawley) Bilyeu.  She graduated from Morrisonville High School.

She married Darrell Aloysius Grundy on November 25, 1950, in St. Maurice Catholic Church, Morrisonville, and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1977.  Ramona devoted her life to her family, raising four boys with love and discipline.  She also worked as a Mary Kay consultant for many years.  She was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society. Ramona was a member of the National Catholic Society of Forresters, DAR, Christian County Farm Bureau, and the Christian County Ladies Landowner’s Society?.  She enjoyed traveling and taking cruises and playing cards-especially Pinochle. 

She is survived by her children: Michael (wife, Janet) Grundy, Gregory Grundy, Thomas (wife, Victoria S.) Grundy, and Steve (wife, Vicki J.) Grundy all of Morrisonville; grandchildren: Heather Beyers, Miranda (Brittney) Grundy, Jeffrey (Michelle) Grundy, Scott (Andrea) Grundy, Megan (Brian) Smith, Brandon (Sydney) Grundy, Katie Grundy, Jennifer Grundy?; great grandchildren: Mitchell (Vanessa) Beyers, Grayson (Kyle) Lynch, Leah Grundy, Bryce Grundy, Morgan Smith, Kessa Stephens, Libby Stephens, Asher Ross, Garrett Grundy, Olivia Grundy, Elliott Gilpin, Bella Ashley, and Willow Sarbaugh; and great-great grandchildren: Myles and Nash Lynch and Dean Beyers.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and granddaughter: Michelle Grundy.

A funeral mass for Ramona will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, with Rev. Florent Kanga officiating.  The visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville.  Burial will be in St. Maurice Cemetery, and memorials may be made to the Morrisonville Ambulance.  Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald L. Yost, 78, of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. Donald was born on July 19, 1947, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the son of Harry Arsdele and Minnie Frances (Black) Yost. He married the love of his life, Sheila Sample, on June 2, 1968, in Jacksonville, Illinois. Together they shared nearly 58 years of marriage. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, working as a factory worker before pursuing a lifelong dream of becoming an educator. In his 50s, he returned to school and earned his bachelor’s degree in education. He began his teaching career as a History Teacher with the Morrisonville School District, where he also coached girls' basketball. Donald was deeply involved in youth athletics and spent 15 years coaching soccer at Taylorville High School and the Taylorville YMCA. He also served as an assistant coach for the Sangamon State University Prairie Stars Soccer Team. His dedication to mentoring young people left a lasting impact on countless students and athletes throughout the area. Outside of his professional life, Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting Native American antiques, and learning about history. He was an avid firearms enthusiast and found great joy in sharing his interests with family and friends. Alongside his wife, Sheila, he was a part owner of Cottage Rose. Many in the community also knew and loved Donald for his years portraying Santa Claus, bringing smiles and holiday cheer to children and families.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Yost of Taylorville; daughter, Kimberly (John) Yost-Long of Taylorville; son, Jason (Laura)  Yost of Austin, Texas, and second son: Todd Megginson of Pawnee; grandchildren, Trent Long of Washington, D.C., Kaylee Yost of Maroa, and Kylie Yost of Maroa;  niece, BethAnne Krehel; cousin, Gary Yost; and Janet Yost-Brown and numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Karen Krehel; his nephew, Timothy Krehel; and his cousin, Dianne Yost.

A visitation for Donald will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Military Honors will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service will be immediately following military honors with Pastor Chad Zueck officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Donald's honor may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
