Linda Louise Larson, 79 of Taylorville, passed away at 1:00am on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on June 13, 1941 in Joliet, the daughter of George E. and Mary L. (Wright) Flory.  She married Louis E. Larson on April 20, 1963 in Lockport.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 1995.  Linda earned her bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University and then her master’s degree from the University of Illinois.  Linda worked for many years as a psychologist for Christian County Mental Health Association.  She was a member of the Taylorville First Presbyterian Church as well as the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, and previously served as the president of the Area Agency on Aging.  She enjoyed sharing her talent of singing not only with her church, but also as a part of Harmony.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, and quilting.  
Linda is survived by her daughter-in-law: Penny Larson of Taylorville; grandchildren: Aaron Larson (Tara) of Mt. Pulaski , Breanne Larson of Taylorville, and Cydnee Larson of Taylorville; great grandson: Braden Larson special family members: Carlos Richmond and Dustin Hensley.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Brian Larson; and brother: George Flory.
Mrs. Larson will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Blomquist officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.  Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Hollis Lee Ridgeway, 88 of Edinburg, passed away at 11:45pm on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on February 11, 1932 in Tennessee, the daughter of Henry and Mary Myrtle Andrews.  She graduated from Mt. Auburn High School and married James Luther Ridgeway Sr. on August 21, 1952 in Rochester.  He preceded her in death on January 19, 2014.  Hollis was a homemaker and an Army wife, caring for their son while they traveled around the world during James’s 29-year Army career.  Following her husband’s retirement, Hollis and James spent 15 years touring the county by motorcycle, visiting all of the 48 contiguous states.  Hollis loved to travel, anytime James wanted to go somewhere, she was quick to speak up- “Me too!”.  She also enjoyed crafts of all types.  
Hollis is survived by her son: James L. Ridgeway Jr. of Edinburg; granddaughter: Madelynne Ridgeway of Fairview Heights; sister: Jean Pickett (James) of Taylorville; and nephews: David Pickett (Debbie), Tom Pickett, and Linda Westbrook (Bill) all of Taylorville.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Homer Andrews and Andy Andrews; and daughter-in-law: Tonya Ridgeway.  
The funeral service for Hollis will be held at 11am on Monday, September 28, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Carl James Manuel, 81, of Stonington, passed away at 9:57 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born December 19, 1938 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Carl Oscar and Dorothy (Hunt) Manuel.  He married Luwauna German on July 11, 1987 in Taylorville.

Jim graduated from Taylorville High School in 1956, and went on to work as a belt repairman for the Peabody #10 mine for 40 years.  He then worked an additional 2 years for the mine in Sparta.  Jim was also a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville.

Jim was a hardworking and dedicated coal miner, receiving many awards during his time of service.  He loved coon hunting, trading dogs, and training horses, but most of all he loved his family.  Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Jim is survived by his wife, Luwauna Manuel of Stonington; children, Debra (husband, Michael) Fulcher of Kincaid, and Rickie Manuel of Florissant, MO; grandchildren, Curtis (wife, Lindsey) Dixon of Taylorville, and Kelsey Marie Fulcher of Kincaid; step-children, Denise (husband, Rob) Bates of Sullivan, Mark (wife, Candy) Spencer of Sullivan, Bret (wife, Charity) Spencer of Owaneco, and Pastor Bart (wife, Sue) Spencer of Holland, MI; 17 step-grandchildren, who loved him dearly; 36 great grandchildren; siblings, Pamela (husband, Denny) Lynch of Taylorville, and Gary Manuel of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.

Adolphe Eugene Jouglet, 88 of Stonington, passed away at 4:54am on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on February 13, 1932 in Stonington, the son of Voltaire and Cymone (Besson) Jouglet.  He graduated from Stonington High School in 1950 prior to serving in the U.S. Navy.  Adolphe retired from Caterpillar after a 35-year career.  He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini.  He loved to travel with his brother, together they visited many locations including Brazil and Puerto Rico.  He loved spending time outdoors especially while fishing.  Along with other family members, he enjoyed attending the Indy 500 for many years.  
He is survived by his sister: Judy Johnson, husband Moe, of Taylorville and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Eugene Jouglet, Olga Hemingway, and Norma Kastelic.

Debra F. Prehn, 62 of Taylorville, formerly of Springfield, died at 8:43 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing Home. Debra was born on August 14, 1958 in Chicago, the daughter of Jerome and Hazel (Webb) Baron. Debra graduated from Cleveland High School in St. Louis in 1978 and went on to take some college credits in childcare. She married Harold Prehn on October 18, 1991 in Springfield and he preceded her in death on December 26, 2000. She worked most of her life at Christian County Mental Health Association. When she was not working, Debra thoroughly enjoyed playing the piano, organ, and keyboard for Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member, as well as playing for the A.M.E. Church and the Lighthouse Apostolic Church. Debra was a self-taught pianist, learning and playing best by ear. She enjoyed her time playing for preschool graduations and Christmas programs. Debra was a member of the Choir, the Chime Choir, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of hearing her play.
Along with her husband, Debra was preceded in death by her parents and her grandmother: Eva Chapman of St. Louis.

Martha Janet Bruns, 79 of Taylorville, passed away, surrounded by her family, at 7:19am on Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on November 1, 1940 in Mattoon, the daughter of Lester and Mildred (Young) Wickline.  She married Larry M. Bruns on June 20, 1981 in Taylorville.  Janet worked as a nurse at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital before working for the State of Illinois and retiring from the Department of Natural Resources.  She was a dedicated member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS, in Taylorville.  Janet served as a pianist and organist for the Presbyterian and Lutheran churches playing for services, weddings, and funerals for over 30 years as well as sharing her vocal gifts as part of the choir.  She was a long-time member of the Peter Meyer Chapter of the DAR where she previously served as president.  She loved spending time outdoors while camping and working in her garden and canning the produce she grew.  Janet enjoyed crossword puzzles and getting her nails done with her daughter Lisa, time she always treasured.  Most of all she loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her husband: Larry Bruns of Taylorville; children: Lisa Slater (Michael) of Sherman, David Bruns (Chris) and Todd Bruns both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Melisa Rock (Josh), Kelli Anderson, Kayla Bruns (Anthony Forehand), Andrew Slater (Ceelyn), Hailey Bruns, and Levi Slater; great grandchildren: Landan Tribble, Kaydence Mesecher, Julian Wilson, and Emma Rock; siblings: Jane Thompson and Galen Wickline (Brenda) both of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter: Darla Janette Cramer.

Alberta June Meyer, 96, of Taylorville, peacefully passed away at 5:32pm on Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  Alberta was born and raised in Taylorville, the only child to Albert and Ruth (Melville) Siegrist.  She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1942.  She married George William “Bill” Meyer on March 30, 1947 in Taylorville.  Bill preceded her in death on December 21, 2012.  Together they raised 3 daughters.  Alberta worked at Farmers Supply for many years as an office manager.  She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville.  Alberta enjoyed playing cards and was in several bridge and pinochle clubs throughout her years.  She and Bill traveled to all 50 states and enjoyed taking many cruises together.  She enjoyed time with her family and playing games.  

Alberta is survived by her daughters: Kay Cowell (David) of Taylorville, Janet Smith (Steve) of Salem, and Beth Lindvahl of Effingham; grandchildren: Jeff Cowell (Sheila) and Doug Cowell both of Taylorville, Sarah Campbell (Nik) of Chesterfield, Missouri, Natalie Weaver (Tim) of Steeleville, and Andrew Smith of Troy; and 6 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son-in-law: Craig Lindvahl.

Robert Glenn Striplin, age 58, formerly of Taylorville, Illinois, died suddenly on September 10, 2020 at his home in Jackson, Tennessee. He was born in Carlinville, IL to Harry and Veda Brackett Striplin and graduated in 1979 from Carlinville High School in Carlinville, IL. Bob spent his career in the sheet metal industry, working at Macon Metals, Illini Metals, Automated Fabrication Technology (AFT), and most recently at Cupples' J&J Company, Inc. in Jackson, TN. 

He took delight when his grandkids visited. He enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, and completing projects in his shop and yard. His dogs, Bonnie and Clyde also brought him great pleasure. 

Bob is survived by his wife, Patty (Callan) Striplin; two sons, Jeremy Alwerdt (Heather) and Matt Striplin, both of Taylorville, IL; stepdaughter, Becky Ittenbach of Taylorville, IL; five brothers; George Striplin (Kim), Terry Striplin (Kathy), Dan Striplin (Anne), Lindell Striplin (Lora) and Darrell Striplin (Jolynne); two sisters, Carol (Jim) Fodor, and Sharon Stroud; and seven grandchildren. Other than his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Deborah (Branson) and two nephews, Michael Striplin and Dillon Striplin. 

A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 10:30am at Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, IL with Scott Parks officiating.

Minor Earl Dishon, 79, of Neoga, formerly of Stonington, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Minor was born and raised in rural Stonington, the son of Leslie and Leila (Schoning) Dishon.  He graduated from Stonington High School in 1958, and five years later he proudly joined the United States Army, and served for two years.  From 1963 until 1976 he was married to Sharon Watson, the mother his four daughters, and they divorced.  He then married Joyce Hogge in 1980, and she preceded him in death in 2011.
Minor drove a broadcast spreader for Stonington Fertilizer, Inc, and he raised six acres of strawberries on Hidden Oaks Berry Farm.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #257 in Stonington.  Minor was as unique as his name.  Whether it was fishing, dancing the Texas Two Step, Flying Cesnas, telling jokes, or spending time with his family, it was done with a mighty spirit, lots of humor, and great love for all.  He spent his final years with his loving companion, Elsie Orsborn of Neoga.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lee Letz; son-in-law, Oma “Andy” Miller; and nephew, Dustin Dishon.

LeAnne Fraley Dempsey, 67, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2020 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
LeAnne was born April 23, 1953 in Springfield, the daughter of Varel L. and Yvonne (Gardner) Fraley.  She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1971. She was a cheerleader throughout high school and in college while attending Western Illinois University.  She went on to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale receiving a degree in court reporting. She then attended MacMurray College where she received a degree in Special Education.  LeAnne worked as a Special Education teacher in Sterling, IL and the surrounding communities for many years, until her retirement.  
LeAnne was an unconditional loving mother to her children; they were her world. She was also a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and a friend to all. Her sweet smile was contagious and she had a way of making people feel special. She loved the beach and vacationing in North Redington Beach, FL, and was an avid flower gardener.  Having been raised in the Presbyterian Church, LeAnne had faith in God and Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, Varel.

Gerald “Jerry” Snyder, 82 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 11:51 a.m. at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on February 16, 1938 in Taylorville, IL the son of Eugene and Mary (Best) Snyder. He married Donna J. Frye on November 28, 1958 in Mississippi and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2016. Jerry worked as a farmer and grain operator. He was a member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge #1516, Knights of Columbus Council #2120, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 1425, VFW Post #4495, Palmer Advent Christian Church and he was a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his Daughters: Vicki (Steve) Grundy of Morrisonville, IL; Vanessa Younker of Morton, IL; Grandchildren: Brandon Grundy, Katlyn Grundy, Claire Younker, Gabe Younker; Great-Grandchildren: Kessa Stephens, Libby Stephens and several Cousins. Melvin Charles Wempen, Sr. 95, of Morrisonville, passed away at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

Melvin was born January 1, 1925 in Raymond, the son of Henry and Meta (Pehle) Wempen. He graduated from high school in Raymond, and proudly served our country in the United States Army from March of 1945 until his honorable discharge in November of 1946. Melvin served one year in Japan during World War II. When he returned home, he married Shirley Jones on February 9, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield.

Melvin farmed for a short period of time, and then worked for W.H. Kent for 15 years. He then started with Hostess, where he developed the route in this area. Later in his career, Melvin worked briefly for Holland Dairy, before retiring. He helped establish the Morrisonville Community Ambulance, and was very involved with the Morrisonville-Palmer Fire Protection District, serving as Fire Chief for many years. Melvin was also a very active member of the Morrisonville United Methodist Church, serving as head usher, board member, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville, Masonic Lodge #681 in Morrisonville, and the Christian County Shrine Club. Melvin loved mowing, and working in the yard, so much that, he had a lawn mowing business.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Sue Wayne; infant twin sister who died at birth; brother, James Wempen; and sister, Ruth McGinnis.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Shirley Wempen of Morrisonville; sons, Melvin (wife, MaDonna) Wempen, Jr. of Raymond, and Kurt (wife, Janet) Wempen of Morrisonville; daughter, Connie (husband, Jim) Young of New Windsor; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Private family ceremonies with Masonic Rites will be held, with Rev. Dayle Badman officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow the ceremonies at Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Litchfield.

Franklin T. Diss, 87 of Taylorville, formerly of Owaneco, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born on May 26, 1933 in Taylorville, the son of Chauncey Mitchell and Ruby Pearl (Fortner) Diss Sr.  He married Christine Carlton on June 22, 1952 in the Owaneco United Methodist Church.

He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1951 where he played football, basketball, baseball, and track.  Frank served in the United States Army, Signal Corps during the Korean War.  In recognition of his service, he took part in a honor flight with his fellow veterans, a trip that he forever cherished.  Frank worked many jobs throughout the years including the Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company, worked with Bill Tex doing construction, and at the Wempen Lumber Yards in Assumption and Moweaqua.  Farming was always a key part of Frank’s life.  He was a dairy farmer on his father-in-law’s farm for many years and worked for SoHiGro in Millersville.  Frank worked for the Christian County Jail where he was the first jailer to earn his certification through PTI.  Later in life Frank worked many years for his nephew at J.M. Diss Construction in Finlay.  Frank was a talented woodworker and enjoyed building furniture.  He was a member of the Taylorville Area Woodworkers.  He was an active member of the Owaneco First United Methodist Church where he served many roles including Administrative Board, Sunday School Teacher, and sang in the choir.

 
He is survived by his wife: Christine Diss of Taylorville; daughter: Cindy Diss of Taylorville; son: Daniel Diss of Wheaton; sisters: Mary Lawyer of Owaneco and June Crane of Sun City, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law: Alice and Herman Carlton; and siblings: Jack Diss, Chauncey Diss Jr., Ruth Flemming, Kenneth Diss, and Jesse Diss.  

Frank will be cremated, and a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 1:30pm until 3:00pm at the Owaneco United Methodist Church.  Due to the pandemic, all guidelines will be followed including social distancing and the use of masks.  Memorials may be left to the Owaneco United Methodist Church.

Tony L. Riva, 49, of Springfield IL, formerly of Kincaid, IL passed away at 7:15 pm, Monday September 7, 2020 at St. Johns hospital in Springfield, IL surrounded by his family.

Tony was born the son of Rudy and Marilyn (Emerson) Riva on Wednesday June 21, 1971 in Springfield, IL. 
Tony went to Kincaid High School where he was known for his sportsmanship, his sense of humor, and his kind heart.  He worked in the construction industry, having previously worked as a corrections officer, a security system installer, and general laborer.

He enjoyed playing pool, listening to classic rock music, watching sports and spending time with his friends and family.   He loved his Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, Illini and Nascar seasons.  His most valued treasure was his daughter Alison whom he loved very much.

Tony was preceded in death by his mother Marilyn Riva, his grandparents John P and Wreatha Riva and Fred and Rosalie Emerson, and his Uncle Don Emerson.

He is survived by his daughter Alison Wrigley Riva of Tovey, IL, his father Rudy Riva Sr. along with companion Laura Agrippino of Kincaid, IL,  his brothers Rudy (Jennifer) Riva Jr of Belleville, IL and  Erin (Gina) Riva of Palm Coast, FL, Nephews Jeffrey Riva and Jake Smith, Neices Nikole Riva and Jordan (Anthony) Midgett, a great niece Remyntin, aunts Vickie (Don) Henley, Sharon (Rick) Smith, and Dorothy Emerson and uncles Wesley (Sheila) Riva, and Ron (Dale) Emerson, many cousins and friends.

Visitation for Tony will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 5pm to 7pm at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL with burial to follow at a later date.    Reverend Chad Foster will close service with a brief prayer service.  Masterson Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.

Alfreda Zachery, 89 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at 8:34 p.m. at Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello, IL. She was born on January 14, 1931 in Crab Orchard, KY the daughter of Corsa and Clara (Griffin) Harris. She married Rodney Zachery on January 11, 1946 in Crab Orchard, KY and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2008. Alfreda worked as a housekeeper and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville.
She is survived by her Son: Garry (Margaret) Zachery of Cerro Gordo, IL; Granddaughter: Lynn (Matthew) Miller of Knoxville, TN; Great-Grandson: Zackery Miller of Knoxville, TN; Sister: Edith Zwahlen of Kentucky; Brother: Ray (Wilma) Harris of Florida; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother: Earl Harris and sister: Betty Osterman.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.

Lawrence J. Grant, 77 of Owaneco, passed away at 2:38pm on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born on December 17, 1942, the son of Homer L. and Clara Faye (Ryan) Grant.  He married Carolyn S. Hemingway on December 7, 1969 in Stonington.  Larry was a life-long farmer.  He began his ag career by working for the Curtin family for many years at the Flat Branch Cattle Company.  He began farming on his own thanks to the support of the Evans and Moss family of Owaneco.  Larry and Carolyn started their farm operation from scratch in 1971 and in 1998 their son Pat joined them and most recently the 3rd generation with their grandchildren Conner and Chloe.  Larry was a lifetime member of the Taylorville FFA Alumni.  Larry graduated from Stonington High School.  He previously served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Stonington American Legion.  He was a member of the Christian County Farm Bureau.  Aside from the farm, Larry’s family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren.  He was a dedicated fan of VisionWay basketball and a proud grandpa.  He loved collecting antique tractors and farm toys and spent countless hours riding his Gator around the Owaneco countryside.  Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Grant; son: Patrick Grant (Michelle); and grandchildren: Conner Grant and Chloe Grant all of Owaneco; brother: Ronnie Grant (Terry) of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Charles Grant; sister: Dorothy Roberts: and infant twin sisters.

Janice “Sue” Kirk, 67, of Cowden, IL passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at home surrounded by her loved ones.  

Sue was born on January 9, 1953, in Canon City, CO, the daughter of Henry B. and Mary Catherine (White) Grady.  Sue and James B. Kirk were united in holy matrimony on September 19, 1972 in Lakewood and enjoyed 29 years of marriage before his passing on November 3, 2001.  Sue worked as an RN for many years in Shelbyville, Decatur and Pana hospitals.  She and James faithfully attended the Lakewood United Methodist Church for many years.  Sue loved to laugh, whether it be with family or friends, her sense of humor and her laughter were contagious and she always knew just the right thing to say at just the right time to lift one’s spirits. She loved to brag about her children and grandchildren.  They brought so much joy to her life.  

Sue is survived by her daughter, Catherine M. (Adam) Mathias of Taylorville; son, James (Nicole) Kirk of Taylorville; grandchildren:  Brock M. Mathias, Anna M. Mathias, Jessica F. Mathias, Braylon J. Kirk and Tinley N. Kirk and great-grandson, Castiel O. Mathias.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers:  Henry O. Grady and Billy Lynn Grady and sister, Mary L. Ritchel.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Pastor Don “Satch” Thomas officiating.  Burial will take place in Red Bank Cemetery in Lakewood.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden.  Memorials may be made in Sue’s name to the Salvation Army or the donor’s favorite charity.

Sue grew up in poverty, she in turn loved to give generously.  She believed that charity begins at home. Marianne E Wilhite, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 3:25am on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Scott County Nursing Home in Winchester.  She was born on November 1, 1926 in Taylorville, the daughter of Glen and Pha (Yockey) Love.  Marianne married Robert Wilhite in 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1991.  

Survivors include her daughters: Patricia Barrow (Randy) of New Berlin and Carol Iskrzycki (Matt) of Highland; granddaughters: Maribeth Tobin (Shaun), Sarah Johnson (Eric), Jessica Iskrzycki, and Rachel Iskrzycki;  great grandchildren: Austin Tobin, Bradley Tobin, Haley Tobin, and Merric Johnson; brothers: James Love (Lois) of Mattoon, William Love of Huntington Beach, California, and Kenneth Love (Karen) of Arcola; sister: Shirley Critchlow of Quincy, California; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Harold Love and Robert Love; and a brother in infancy. 

Mrs. Wilhite graduated from Taylorville High School in 1944 where she played clarinet in the school band.  After graduation she was employed by J. Elmer Vaughn Insurance Company in Taylorville.  The couple owned and operated Wilhite Distributing Company.  She went to work for the Illinois State Library in 1987 where she was awarded Employee of the Month by Jesse White, Secretary of State in 1997.  She retired in 1999 as an Administrative Assistant in the Library Development Division.

Mrs. Wilhite enjoyed being involved with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always giving and always thinking of others.  She was an excellent cook and seamstress and loved to bake.  She was known for her sugar cookies and two-layer cakes.  Making homemade fudge was her passion.  She loved to read and travel.  
She was a longtime member of the Davis Memorial Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship group.  She previously served as President of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, President of the Taylorville Women’s Club, member of the Peter Meyer Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and its Cameo Society, member of the Christian County Historical Society, member of Friends of the Public Library, Christian County Home Extension, President of Church Women United and she enjoyed participating in the Red Hat Dorables.

Betty E. Yard, 87 of Taylorville, passed away at 9:38am on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on August 31, 1933 in Taylorville, the daughter of Elias George and Ole Eddith (King) Leinen.  She married Robert E. Yard Sr. on December 31, 1951 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1997.  Betty retired from Illinois Power in Decatur where she worked for 25 years as an engineering clerk.  She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the CD of A.  She enjoyed flower gardening and crafts and previously served as a Den Mother for her son’s Cub Scout dens.  Betty loved cooking and entertaining her family for holidays and celebrations.  More than anything she adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.  
She is survived by her sons: Robert E Yard Jr. (Yvonne) and Daniel J. Yard both of Taylorville; grandchildren: McKenzie Crowe (Chet), Stevi Davis (Blake), and Jacob Yard (Simone); great grandchildren: Tyler Crowe (Felicia), Mason Crowe, Cayden Crowe, Camden Davis, Lucas Davis, and Finley Davis; one great-great grandchild on-the-way; and nieces: Shirley Williams, Sandy Hobbs, and Jeannie Pilto.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son: Jeffrey Alan Yard; brothers: Alvie Leinen, Floyd Leinen, and Harold Leinen; and sister: Leona Collebrusco.

Clara Agnes Broux-Hunsley, 93 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 5:55 p.m. at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 25, 1927 in Bullpitt, IL the daughter of William I. and Flora May (AlsPaugh) Oller.  She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, IL.
She is survived by her Son: Joseph E. (Pam) Broux of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Shay Broux of Taylorville, IL; Michael (Chelse) Broux of Owaneco, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Oliver, Ruby and Scarlet Broux of Owaneco, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Joseph Louis Qualls, 87 of Taylorville, died Friday September 4, 2020 at 2:33 a.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. Joe was born the last of six children on April 6, 1933 in Decatur, the son of Albert & Bessie (Jackson) Qualls. He joined the Army and served his country proudly in the Korean Conflict where he received a bronze star. Joe married Phyllis Russell in Decatur on August 28, 1954 and they enjoyed 50 years together until she passed away in 2004. He later married Sheila Mediar and she also preceded him in death in 2011. Joe worked as a laborer most of his life and was a member of the Central Laborers Local 159 of Decatur, and a lifelong member of the Stonington American Legion Post 257 as well as Taylorville VFW Post 4495. In his spare time he truly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Joe is survived by his son, Everett (wife, Jenny) Qualls of Williamsville; three grandchildren: Levi Qualls
& Storm Qualls, both of South Dakota, and Meghan Qualls of Argenta; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, two brothers, and three sisters.

Wilbert “Dean” Hinton, 84 of Champaign, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at University Rehabilitation Center in Urbana after a long battle with Parkinson disease.  He was born on December 21, 1935 in Mt. Auburn, the son of Luther M. and Erma (Bailey) Hinton.  Dean graduated from Mr. Auburn High School in 1953.  On July 11, 1958 he married Goldie O. Ridgeway in Mt. Auburn and they were married for 46 years until her passing on September 11, 2004.  After Goldie’s passing, he spent much time with his beloved companion Donna Beerup who preceded him in 2019.  He was a member of the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ.  Dean enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 5, 1958 and retired on April 30, 1982 with 24 years of honorable service.  He served 2 tours in Vietnam crewing helicopters and supervising maintenance.  He served 3 years in Alaska and 3 years in Washington, Alabama, and Kentucky.  He spent his final 9 years of service with the U.S. Army recruiting command both in Champaign and Fr. Sheridan, Illinois.  Following his retirement from the Army, Dean worked 16 years for the Immigration and Naturalization Service as an Immigration Inspector and Supervisor at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, retiring as the Assistant Port Director.  Dean was a member of Kedron Lodge #340 A.F. & A.M. in Mt. Auburn and the Lodge of Perfection, 14th Degree.  In his spare time, he loved gardening which he did both in Champaign and his property outside of Springfield.  Much of his spare time was spend attending farm auctions and continuing collections started with Goldie.  His other passion was University of Illinois sports.  He was a die-hard fighting Illini fan in good times and bad.  He was famous within the family for saying “We’re gonna be good next year!”  He will be sorely missed.  
He is survived by his sons: Michael D. Hinton (LoriAnn) of Villa Hills, Kentucky, and Troy L. Hinton (Kristine) of White Heath; grandchildren: Samantha Woodruff, Molly Hinton, Travis Hinton, and Cassie Hinton; great grandchildren: Maxwell, Findley, Kyra, and Lily; and sister: Lois Watson of Beaverton, Oregon.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers: Wayne Hinton and Charles Hinton.
A visitation for Dean will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 10:00am until 11:00am at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  A military graveside service will take place at 11:30am on Tuesday at the Mt. Robert Errol Frisina, age 81, of Sarasota, Florida formerly of Taylorville, Illinois passed away peacefully at the Tidewell Hospice House in Lakewood Ranch Florida on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Born on August 23rd 1939 in Taylorville to Jim Frisina Sr. and Lucille Zeigler Frisina, Bob was always called a “little angel sent from heaven” by his mother. He attended Taylorville schools growing up and graduated Taylorville High School in 1957. The University of Illinois was Bob’s next stop where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and grew his love for Illini sports. Bob served in the United States Army and Army Reserves until 1967. In 1962 he joined the family theatre business, Frisina Enterprises comprised of more than 60 theatres and drive ins across a three-state area. Later on, Bob and his wife, Fran, owned Liberty Market for a number of years, a specialty Italian market right off the Taylorville square.

Often called “Bobby Lou” by friends, Bob Frisina never knew a stranger and was the life of many parties, especially in earlier days. Bob was a multi-sport athlete at Taylorville High School and lifelong golfer like his father winning the Taylorville Country Club Championship five times and the Taylorville City Championship once. He enjoyed serving as a volunteer coach for “biddy basketball” in Taylorville for a number of years, as well as volunteer coaching his daughter’s junior high basketball team in the late 1970’s.

Bob was an avid reader, music lover (Dixieland and Broadway showtunes in particular) and spoon-player with flair in a local kitchen band. He loved the opportunity to travel with his family when he was able including several memorable trips to Europe with his children and cruises with his wife, Fran.

When it comes to sports teams it might be debatable if Bob favored the Chicago Bears over the St. Louis Cardinals, but there would never be any doubt he loved the Fighting Illini most of all and will be remembered for his lifelong loyalty to University of Illinois.

Bob was devoted to wife of 58 years, Fran Daly Frisina whom he met at the age of 12 at Taylorville Junior High, as well as his children, grandchildren and lifelong friends. He made a lasting impact greater than what he might have ever realized and would love nothing better than knowing his friends and family would share stories toasting wonderful memories spent laughing together.

Bob Frisina is survived by his wife Fran, daughter Cindy, Atlanta GA, son Scott, Gainesville, FL and three wonderful grandchildren, Alexandra, Cathryn and Dominic.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents James Frisina Sr. and Lucille Ziegler Frisina. He was a longstanding member of the Taylorville Country Club, First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville and the Taylorville Moose Lodge 1516.

Marcia S. Craig, 81 of Edinburg passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 6:48 p.m. at her home in Edinburg, IL. She was born on June 2, 1939 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Martin Bradford and Clara (Gupton) Durbin. She married Herb Craig on September 7, 1957 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on November 24, 1993. Marcia worked for the Edinburg Schools and for Cory Craig Auction Service. She enjoyed women of the Moose activities and driving the school bus. She also enjoyed Lake of the Ozarks.

Alice Faye (Carpenter) Curtin, 84 of Taylorville, passed away at 2:25pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville.  She was born on March 15, 1936 at home in Blue Mound, the daughter of Charles and Mary Gladys (Brown) Carpenter.  Alice lived in Stonington and graduated from Stonington High School in 1954.  She attended the University of Illinois.  She married John Curtin on February 9, 1957.  Alice was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society, Christian County Home Extension, Illinois Angus Auxiliary, and St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She provided hugs, kisses, and great food and cookies.  Alice worked alongside John operating their family farm and enjoyed gardening and traveling.
She is survived by her husband: John Curtin of Taylorville; children: Fred Curtin and Chuck Curtin both of Stonington, Beth Vincent (Glenn) of Mt. Auburn, Mary May of Taylorville, Cathy Wernsing (Mitch) of Rochester, and Jim Curtin (Shelly) of Taylorville; 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; aunt: Darlene Strawser of Ohio; brothers-in-law: Larry Curtin of Taylorville and Paul Curtin (Gail) of Lisle; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Dr. Ben Carpenter; and sister: Peggy Pollock.   
The visitation for Mrs. Curtin will be held from 9am until 11am on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington.  A private family funeral mass will take place immediately following the visitation on Saturday with Monsignor David Lantz officiating.  Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  All health department guidelines will be followed limiting the number of people allowed in the church at a time, and masks are highly encouraged.  Memorials in Alice’s memory may be left to the Holy Trinity Altar & Rosary Society or St. Mary’s Catholic School.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Alice, or condolences to her family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.

Sue Jane Smith was born on March 7, 1955 to her late parents Ruth and Paul Weil and passed away on August 31, 2020 in Northville, Michigan. Sue was a dedicated and beloved Pediatric Nurse at the Children's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan for 32 years. She cared so deeply about her patients and their families and helped develop safety provisions for them as well. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids or gardening and knitting. Sue is survived by her loving husband Robert Smith Jr. Children; Robert Smith III (Bridget) and the late Christopher Smith, grandchildren; Declan, Riley, Sullivan and Finnegan Smith who were her everything. Dear sister of Judy and Thomas. Her family also includes her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Delores and Robert Smith of Stonington, Illinois.
Visitation is Friday Sept. 4, 2020 from 5-9pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home in Livonia, Michigan. Sue will be laid to rest next to her late son Christopher at a 2pm graveside service on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020 at Old Stonington Cemetery in Illinois. Lenora A. Steele, 79 of Palmer passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 2:08 p.m. at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on February 9, 1941 in Mt. Auburn, IL the daughter of Earl and Dorothy (Stephens) Montgomery. She married Duane “Biggen” Steele on June 23, 1969 in Alton, IL and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2019. Lenora worked as a seamstress and a homemaker.
She is survived by her Daughters: Gerri (Keith) Conrath of Taylorville, IL; Cathy Lee and Companion Mike Miller of Auburn, IL; Vicki (Ted) Charles of Riverton, IL; Krystal Steele and Companion Steve Lopez of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Sixteen Grandchildren; twenty-three Great-Grandchildren; Son-in-Law: Wes Streight of Raymond, IL; Brother: Kenneth (Sandy) Montgomery of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband and daughter Lavon Streight.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL with Pastor James Jones officiating.
