Lawrence R. "Larry" Freese

Lawrence R. “Larry” Freese, 72, of Taylorville passed away at 4:30a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.  He was born on April 4, 1947 in Taylorville, the son of Lawrence S. and Sarah M. (Sawyer) Freese.  He married Sandra Jean Erbes on June 7, 1969 in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington.  She preceded him in death on January 16, 1997.  Larry was a veteran of the US Army and retired from Caterpillar after a 30-year career.  He was an avid bowler, Chicago Cubs fan, and a talented woodworker.  


Larry is survived by his son: Jeremy Freese of Taylorville and sister: Brenda Windell, husband Larry, also of Taylorville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and mother-in-law and father-in-law: Marcel & Eleanor Erbes.  


Larry will be cremated, and a private graveside service will be held at a later date at Ponting Cemetery in Stonington. Memorials in Larry’s memory may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.

Joseph Louis Savaris

Joseph Louis Savaris, 98, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Monday,
January 27, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

 

Joseph was born January 4, 1922 in San Gregorio, Italy, the son of Victor and Tersilia (Luca) Savaris.  He graduated from Taylorville High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player.  Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was an Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class for Blimp Headquarters during World War II.  After his honorable discharge, he worked for Fiat Allis as a machinist until his retirement.

Joseph was a devout Catholic, and long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.  He was an equally dedicated member of the V.F.W. Post #4495 and American Legion Post #73, and he spent many years serving on their honor guard and burial detail.  Joseph was also a long-time member of the AmVets IL-Post #29.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Mary Savaris; brother, Robert Savaris; and sister-in-law, Rina Savaris.

 

Funeral Mass: 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 108 W.
Adams St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz, celebrant.  There will be no visitation prior to the mass.

Interment will follow the mass at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, with military honors provided by the V.F.W Post #4495, American Legion Post #73, and the United States Department of Defense.

Jay Todd Edwards

Jay Todd Edwards, 60, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020.

 

Jay was born March 20, 1959 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Joseph Max and Lou (Gatewood) Edwards.  He attended Edinburg Schools and worked as a self-employed carpenter and handyman for many years.  Jay was an animal lover, especially horses.  He enjoyed barrel and keg racing, and was excellent at breaking and training horses.  The meaner the horse, the better.  Jay also enjoyed fishing, and he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, J. Max Edwards; and great niece, Brynslee Kay Edwards.

 

Jay is survived by his son, Joshua (wife, Debbie) Hooper of St. Charles, MO; mother, Lou Edwards of Edinburg, IL; brothers, Bill (wife, Beanie) Edwards of Leslie, MI, Kevin Edwards of Edinburg, IL, Gary (wife, Terri) Edwards of Taylorville, IL, John (wife, Lori) McNeely of Vandalia, IL, and Bill (wife, Paula) McNeely of Effingham, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Private family inurnment will be held at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL.

Beulah I. Lewiski

Beulah I. Lewiski, 92 of Coalton passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 9:55 p.m. in Hillsboro Are Hospital in Hillsboro, IL. She was born on May 17, 1927 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Albert and Mabel (Stephens) Christian. She married Albert Lewiski Sr. on June 2, 1948 in Nokomis, IL and he preceded her in death on November 23, 2004. She worked as a seamstress at the dress factory in Nokomis, IL and she was a member of the First Baptist Church also in Nokomis.


She is survived by her Son: Albert Lewiski Jr. of Coalton, IL; Daughter: Sharon Carlock of Nokomis, IL; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons: Robert Lewiski and Greg Lewiski, daughter: Alberta Lewiski, brothers: Herman, Alvey and John Christian; sisters: Treva Austin, Louise Peters, Monzella Routzen, Geneva Chrisitan and Rosie Hillard.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral Service will be immediately following the visitation starting at 2:00 p.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with Rev. Rena Bell officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery in Nokomis, IL.

Julie Christine Smith

Julie Christine Smith, 50, of Taylorville passed away at 7:00a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in her mother’s home.  She was born on October 7, 1969 in Springfield, the daughter of Virgil Nelson Smith Jr. and Patricia (Santarelli) Smith.  Julie loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and spending time with her friends at the lake.  She was a caring person, especially to her family but also to animals.  She had a love for animals and cared for countless pets throughout her lifetime. 

Julie is survived by her son: Patrick Emmerling of Taylorville; mother: Pat Vogel of Taylorville; sisters: Justine Smith (fiancée Bob Churchill) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jolene Lamb (Michael) of Taylorville; niece: Ellie Reber; nephews: Brandon Reber, Nic Reber, and Zac Adams; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Gehrig Ralph Engel

Gehrig Ralph Engel went to be with his Lord & Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2020 as a result of complications from dementia. Gehrig was born in Strasburg, IL on August 31, 1940 to Ralph & Wilma (Hobson) Engel. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in 1958 and married Bonnie L. Elliott at Grace Lutheran Church, Strasburg in 1960. They had three daughters, Sarah, Missy, and Kathleen. He retired from Caterpillar Decatur in 2001.

Gehrig is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Decatur, daughters Sarah & Joe Marsaglia (Taylorville, IL), Missy & David Hester (Sandwich, IL), & Kathleen Engel (Oakland, TN), grandsons Joshua Hester and Caleb Hester (Sandwich, IL). Also surviving are his sisters and brother Phyllis Rhodes (Winchester, IL), Shirley Lawson (Winchester, IL), Sharon Grieco (Effingham, IL) and Jim "Butch" (Glenda) Engel (Salem, IL) along with many neices and nephews and dear friends.

Gehrig was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Barbara.

Funeral services will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church (2155 N. Oakland Ave., Decatur, IL 62526) on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 6 pm - 8pm at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home and an hour before the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Camp CILCA, or Discovery Ministries.

Bryan Mitchell

Bryan Mitchell, 40, of Pana, IL, formerly of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020 at his residence.

 

Bryan was born August 23, 1979 in Taylorville, IL.  He graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1999, and was a long-time employee of Christian County Mental Health, and was currently employed by Macon Resources.  Bryan was a past-member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, and he was an avid NASCAR fan.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Buel and Zelma Mitchell; and maternal grandparents, Earl and Helen Jones.

 

Bryan is survived by his father, Wayne (wife, Tammy) Mitchell of Morrisonville, IL; siblings, Emilee Mitchell, Tabitha Mitchell, Andrew Helfrich, and Aryonna Mitchell, all of Morrisonville, IL; aunt and uncle, Betty and Charles Angelo of Morrisonville, IL, and aunt, Carla Roberts of Warrenton, MO; and cousins, Chad Angelo of Colorado Springs, CO, Kelli Showalter of Rochester, IL, and Peggy Phillips of Kirksville, MO.

 

Private family ceremonies will be held with Pastor LuAnne Stewart officiating.

 

Interment will follow the ceremonies at Morrisonville Cemetery.

James H. Brown

Jim Brown, 78 of Nokomis, Illinois passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in his home
surrounded by his family. He was born on May 9, 1941 in Nokomis the son of Virgil and Ila
(Ishmael) Brown. He married Shirley Cochran on March 18, 1962 in Nokomis, Illinois.


Jim’s passion and life were spent as a Farmer and many of those years as a Dairy Farmer. He
was a member of the Holstein Association and a supporter of the 4-H program. Jim enjoyed
fishing and playing the slot machines on the numerous casino trips he and Shirley took
throughout the years. And if a good country song was playing, Jim loved showing off his dance
steps with his favorite partner, Shirley.

 

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Brown of Nokomis, son: Howard (Paula) Brown of Nokomis; daughters: Ruth (Jamie) Wilks of Taylorville and Rachel Brown (companion Buck Osborn) of Hillsboro; grandchildren: Mitch and Mariah Brown, Christopher (Aimee) Longden, Revin (Ryan) Ward, Dakota Brown (Chris Cooze), and Mady Brown; great-grandchildren: Kaiden and Kolton Ward, Rylee, Allison, and Bailey Brown, and Kalyx Longden; brother: Archie (Brenda) Brown of Pana; sisters: Dorothy Kaiser of Sullivan, Delores Eddington of Irving, Lola (Frank) Karbach of Dunedin, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ed and Don Brown, sisters: Helen Garland and Margaret McClain, brothers-in-law: Harvey Kaiser, Dean Garland, Bob Eddington, and John McClain, and sister-in-law: Dorothy Brown. 
  
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis. Funeral Service will be held Saturday immediately following the visitation starting at 3:00 P.M. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with Neil Kaiser officiating. Cremation rites to follow the service.

Monica K. Belsher

Monica K. Belsher, 71 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 7:00 A.M. in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.   She was born on September 19, 1948 in Taylorville, Il, the daughter of Walter and Freida (Hamilton) Green.  She married James Belsher on April 8, 1967 in Morrisonville and they later divorced.   Monica retired from the Christian County Sheriff’s office after serving 26 years as a dispatcher.  She was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, Morrisonville


She is survived by her son: James W. Belsher Jr. of Taylorville; daughter: Laura Humphrey of Taylorville; grandchildren: Jake and John Beard, Jenna, Jade, D’Artagnan “Jess”, Jewel, and Jemma Humphrey and Steven Lowis; great-grandchildren: Karsen Beard, Harper and Lily Humphrey.  She is preceded in death by her parents.


Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 3:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. at Sutton Memorial Home.  Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, January 17, 2020 in the funeral home with Pastor Chad Foster officiating.

Alice I. Simpson

Alice I. Simpson, 79, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 4:46 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.
Alice was born November 10, 1940 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of William B. and Emma (Swedick) Adams.  She married Leslie Philip Simpson on June 10, 1961 in Champaign, IL.  He preceded her in death December 7, 2016.
Alice graduated from Taylorville High School in 1958, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Pathology from the University of Illinois.  She worked as a clinical microbiologist for 20 years at Carle Clinic in Urbana, IL, before transferring to Indian University Medical Center where she retired in 2008. 


Alice was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville.  She was also the past Area Director for the American Society for Clinical Microbiology, as well as past member of the South Central Association for Clinical Microbiology.  Her passion for her field of expertise lead her to donate her time as a proctor for many continuing education courses.  She loved quilting, and was a member of the American Quilter’s Society.  Alice also enjoyed gardening and needlepoint.


She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thomas and William Adams; and sisters, Ruth Ferchow, Mary Ann Durbin, and Emma Adrian.


Alice is survived by her son, Philip Simpson of Melbourne, FL; step-granddaughter, Sara (husband, Gregory) Rolfsen-Kohn of Fayetteville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.


Visitation and Funeral Ceremony:  The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Walnut Street, Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.


Interment will follow the ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Michael Domenick Ronchetto

Michael Domenick Ronchetto, 65, of Palmer, IL, passed away at 4:07 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Kindred Hospital in Peoria, IL.

 

Michael was born June 13, 1954 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Domenick and Edith (Berta) Ronchetto.  He graduated from Morrisonville High School, followed by employment with Borg-Werner in Decatur, IL.  Michael’s home has always been Palmer, IL, where he enjoyed Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, stamp collecting, and electric model trains. 

 

He was preceded in death by his father.

 

Michael is survived by his mother, Edith Ronchetto of Palmer, IL; brother, Gary (wife, Mary) Ronchetto of Morrisonville, IL; nieces, Misty Ronchetto of Morrisonville, IL, and Heidi (husband, Jon) Spyridakis of Shelby TWP, MI; great niece, Anastasia Spyridakis; and great nephews, Andreas and Antonio Spyridakis.

Beth A. Wilson

Beth A. Wilson, 49 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 4:28 p.m. in her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on July 16, 1970 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Jimmy and Ruthann (Ondrey) Wilson. Beth worked for the Illinois Department of Human Services.


She is survived by her Daughters: Olivia Mellinger of Taylorville, IL; Ashley White of Taylorville, IL; Granddaughter: Amiyah Moore; Sisters: Amy Crowe of Taylorville, Pam Tennant of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and Grandmother: Ruth Ondrey. 


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Service will be immediately following the visitation starting at 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Anne M. Denning

Mrs. Anne M. Denning, 85, of Taylorville, IL formerly of Bulpitt, IL passed from this life at 12:50 P.M. Monday, January 6, 2020 at Taylorville Care Center.  


She was born in Taylorville, IL November 28, 1934 the daughter of William and Helen (Youshka) Mollusky.  Anne graduated from South Fork High School and went on to marry Donald C. Denning May 27, 1961 in Kincaid, IL.  


Mr. Denning preceded her in death February 8, 1966.  Mrs. Denning worked for Franklin Life and later Horace Mann and had served as Bulpitt Village Clerk for over 25 years.  She enjoyed: fishing, her pets, C.B. radio, gaming or her I-Pad, country music by Billy Crash Craddock, Merle Haggard, the Bellamy Brothers and Waylon Jennings, watching TV, spending time on the porch, and she especially enjoyed the time she got to share with her family.  


Surviving are son Donald and his wife Lisa Denning, and a daughter Renee Denning all of Bulpitt, IL  3 grandchildren Alison, Daniel and Donnie Denning also of Bulpitt, along with nieces and nephews.  


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald and a brother Anthony “Moose” Mollusky.  


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 10, 2020 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  Pastor Tim Hargrove will officiate.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.  Visitation for Mrs. Anne M. Harold Ellis, Sr.

Harold Ellis, Sr., 83, of Springfield, formerly of Divernon, passed away at 3:43 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. 
Harold was born August 9, 1936 in Clinton, TN, the son of Roy Marshal and Elizabeth “Bessie” Sarah (Cox) Ellis.  He was raised and lived in the Clinton, TN area until he was a young man, when he moved to Divernon.  Harold married Ruth Ann Myers on September 19, 1986 in Divernon.  She preceded him in death on March 24, 2016.  Harold drove a semi-truck for many different companies over the year, including for Cox and G & G. He also drove independently for a number of years.  During this time, he also farmed and was the owner and operator of Harold’s Automotive in Divernon. Harold attended the First Baptist Church of Divernon for many years with Ruth. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold Ellis, Jr.; brother, Don Ellis; and sister, Mary R. Ellis.

Harold is survived by his son, Rich (wife, Ann) Ganther of Morrisonville; daughters, Loretta (husband, John) England of Toulon, Peggy Sue Ganther of Macomb, Rena (husband, Paul) Eskew of Bolivia, Annie Rutherford of Springfield, and Evon Ellis of Springfield; granddaughter, Nichole Ellis Tennison; grandson, Steven Wayne Ellis and 13 other grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother, Roy Marshal Ellis, Jr. of Chatham; sisters, Willie Mae “Billie” Butler of Virden, Georgie K. Palmer of Divernon, Marie Bietsch of Bradenton, FL, Linda Spike of Bainbridge, GA, Nancy Barnwell of Eastpoint, FL, and Bobbie Padjen of East Dundee; and many nieces and nephews.

Edwin Eller

Edwin Eller, 79 of Nokomis passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 3:05 p.m. in his home in Nokomis, IL. He was born on March 2, 1940 in Ramsey, IL the son of Carl and Evelyn (Collier) Eller. He married Dorothy Parker on December 12, 1965 and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1999. 


He is survived by his daughter: Sherry (John) Espland of San Diego, CA; Grandchildren: Robert Bowers of Mattoon, IL; Tina (John) Colangelo of California; Great-Grandchildren: Marco and Geinna; Brothers: Raymond (Linda) Eller of Coalton, IL; Dale (Rose Mary) Eller of Nebraska; Sisters: Dorothy Rhodes of Nokomis, IL; Janet (Charles) Harp of Indiana; 1 uncle and many aunts, cousins and friends. Linda S. Lohse

Linda S. Lohse, 81 of Mechanicsburg, IL passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 7:26 p.m. at the Henry & Jane Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt. Pulaski, IL. She was born on May 20, 1938 in Stonington, IL the daughter of Elmer and Alice (Stanley) Metz. She married Melvin Lohse on August 24, 1953 in Pocahontas, AR. 


She is survived by her Husband: Melvin Lohse of Mechanicsburg, IL; Sons: Douglas (Debbie) Lohse of Decatur, IL; Melvin (Joyce) Lohse of Mt. Auburn IL; Richard (Charleen) Lohse of Decatur, IL; Daughter: Beverly (Gary) Pope of Blue Mound, IL; Grandchildren: Jennifer, Chris, Jon, Jamie, Roxann, Michele, Kirby, Kaley and Kelsey; Several Great-Grandchildren, Nieces and  Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Paul Lohse, brothers: Roy, Wayne, Charles, and Paul Metz and Sister: Barbara Lopez. 


Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Memorial Service will be immediately following the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Mike Tozer officiating. Inurnment will be in Bethany Cemetery in Bulpitt, IL.

Jason R. Bright

Jason R. Bright, 40 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on October 3, 1979 in Decatur, IL the son of Steven E. Bright and Ruth (Rhodeman) Lawrence. He married Ashley L. Dodd and they were later divorced. Jason worked as a laborer for various construction companies in the area. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville and Kincaid Church of God in Kincaid.


He is survived by his Sons: Jayden Bright of Taylorville, IL; Jason Dylan of Moweaqua, IL; Father: Steven E. Bright of Moweaqua, IL; Step-Children: Devin Skinner, Alexis Dodd, Mackenzie Skinner all of Taylorville, IL; Brother: Steven M. Bright of Moweaqua, IL; Sister: Chapel Bright of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother: Ruth Lawrence and his step-mother: Elizabeth K. Bright.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Celebration of Life will be held following the visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Craig D. Montgomery

Craig D. Montgomery, 64, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 11:01 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

 

Craig was born July 10, 1955 in Taylorville, IL, the son of James and Marian (Soice) Stout Montgomery.  He married Linda Mae Ingles on August 16, 2002 at Lake Shelbyville.

 

Craig graduated from Rochester High School, and retired from Freedom in Virden as a car salesman after many years of service.  He loved online gaming and playing on his computer.  Craig was also an armchair sports fanatic, enjoying NASCAR, the Cubs, and the Bears.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Craig is survived by his wife, Linda Montgomery or Morrisonville; son, Kristopher (wife, Elizabeth) Montgomery of Omaha, NE; daughter, Emily (husband, Josh) Murphy of St. Louis, MO; step-sons, Kirby (wife, Marry) Ingles of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Rickey (wife, Brittany) Shipman of Moline; step-daughters, Kristina (husband, Dennis) Loskot of Hillsboro, and Monica Shipman of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Shonna Muffick, Natalie and Abigail Montgomery, Ryan, Easton, Conner, and Brynn Murphy, Hunter, Samuel, Andrew, and Kaylynn Ingles, Tristin and Austin Loskot, and Hannah Shipman; and great granddaughter, Kinsley.

 

Private family services will be held at a later date.
