Robert G. Jackson of Taylorville

Robert G. Jackson, 66, of Taylorville, IL died at 9:03 am, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at his residence.

He was born November 14, 1947 in Centralia, IL the son of Warrie Lee “Wink” and Catherine Sarah Quarterman Jackson. On June 28, 1969 he married Janice Carole Snyder in Patoka, IL. Mr. Jackson retired as Assistant Principal at Taylorville High School. He had also taught 5th grade at North School and Math and Science at Taylorville Junior High School. Mr. Jackson was named Teacher of the Year for 1987-88. He was a member of Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Taylorville and was active with the Illinois Education Association, National Education Association, United Way of Christian County, and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. Following Mr. Jackson’s retirement from teaching he worked for Monsanto, and also taught at Lincolnland Community College and was a Student Teacher’s Advisor at University of Illinois-Springfield. Mr. Jackson also enjoyed being a landowner and farmer in Jefferson County.

Surviving are his wife, Janice of Taylorville; Son: Darren Jackson of Prior Lake, MN; Daughter: Robyn Margaron and husband Jeremy of Mechanicsburg; 2 Grandchildren: Jadyn Margaron and Jarryn Margaron; ½ Brother: William Charles Bell of Dix, IL, and ½ Sister: Linda Smith of Sandoval. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother, Freddy Lee Jackson, ½ Brother, Ned Jackson, and ½ Sister: Doris Tate.

Funeral Services will be held at Noon, Saturday, August 2, at Antioch Christian Church in Texaco, IL with Rev. Jonathan Schnautz and Rev. Eric Stillwell officiating. Burial will be in Zion Grove Cemetery, Dix, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, and from 11:00 am until time of services in the church on Saturday.

Brian M. Larson of Taylorville

Brian M. Larson, 54, of Taylorville passed away at 11:01 pm on Monday, July 28, 2014 in his home. He was born on December 1, 1959 in Joliet, the son of Louis and Linda Flory Larson. On November 11, 1984 he married Penny Beitel in Kincaid. Brian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville. He worked for the Illinois Secretary of State as a store keeper for 32 years. Brian enjoyed trap shooting, building boats, woodworking, and was a coach for several years.

Surviving are his wife: Penny Larson of Taylorville; mother: Linda Larson of Kincaid; children: Aaron Larson, wife Tara, Breanne Reber, husband Jarod, and Cydnee Larson all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Nicholas Reber, Tyler Reber, and Braden Reber; special family members: Dustin Hensley, wife Heather of Buffalo NY, and Carlos Richmond of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and an uncle.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm on Thursday July 31, 2014 at McClure Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11am on Friday August 1, 2014 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Wolfe officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.

Terry Robert Grant of Taylorville

Terry Robert Grant, 73 of Taylorville, IL passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:50 a.m. at his home.  He was born on April 1, 1941  in Taylorville. The son of William T.  and Anna Ruth ( Brooks ) Grant Sr. He was an Automotive Dealer. He was heavily involved in Philanthropic activities in the community, which included St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Catholic School and the Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He sponsored  numerous athletic teams and school functions. He was a member of various boards that supported community development and progress.


He is survived by his step-mother, Monica Grant of Taylorville, IL; son: Todd (Debra) Grant of Taylorville; daughters: Robin (Monty) Brown of Buckeye, AZ and, Heather (Tony) Bertauski of Summerville, SC; grandchildren: Shay Grant, Chad Grant, Morgan Brown, Hayden Brown, Dane Brown, Ben Bertauski and Madeline Bertauski; brothers: William (Pam) Grant Jr. of Springfield, IL and Brooks Grant of Taylorville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Linda Grant.    

        
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be  at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL

Patricia Jean Curtin of Stonington

Patricia Jean Curtin, 84, of Sherman, formerly of Stonington, passed away at 3:32 pm, Monday, July 21, 2014 at Villa Health Care Center in Sherman. She was born on February 1, 1930 in Chicago, the daughter of Herman Otto and Ruth Marion (O’Reilly) Biehle. She married Lawrence B. Curtin on January 15, 1955 at St. Giles Catholic Church in Oak Park, Illinois. Mrs. Curtin was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a homemaker and previously worked as a Service Representative for Illinois Bell Telephone in Maywood, Illinois. The most important part of Pat’s life was her husband and caring for her 9 children.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Larry Curtin of Sherman; Children: Mary Sue Swigert, husband Curt, of Blue Mound, Carol Ruggles, husband Randy, of Catawba, North Carolina, Diane Sample, husband Owen, of Edinburg, Therese Anfield, husband Jim, of LaGrange, Betty Peabody, husband Jeff, of Taylorville, Greg Curtin, wife Connie, of Stonington, Steve Curtin, wife Susan, of Stonington, David Curtin of Springfield, and Nancy Curtin of Decatur; 25 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Mary M. Kiefer of Schaumburg; Brother: Jack Biehle of Bradenton, Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 308 N. Pine in Stonington with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 7 pm at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.

Noretta (Norie) P. Kettelkamp of Taylorville

Noretta (Norrie) P. Kettelkamp of Gowin Parc Memory Care in Taylorville Illinois, formerly of Nokomis passed away Saturday July 19th, 2014 at Gowin Parc.

Norrie the daughter of Elvis L Hicks and Bessie Funderburk Hicks was born January 30, 1923 in Ramsey Illinois. She married Fred (Fritz) Kettelkamp August 20, 1944 in South Fork Methodist Church in rural Nokomis. He passed August 19, 1995. Norrie was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a registered nurse and worked in hospitals in Pana and Taylorville. She delivered many many children. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Royal Neighbors. Norrie was a faithful and devoted member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Noretta is survived by daughter Sue (Don) Reiss of Taylorville, sons Ben (Bonnee) Kettelkamp of Greenville, Bruce (Meg) Kettelkamp of Taylorivlle, grandchildren Kiley (Mike) Marsaglia, Kip (Kristen) Reiss, Kacy (Michelle) Reiss, Ben J. Kettelkamp, Beth Kettelkamp, Jessica Kettelkamp, Katie Kettelkamp, Zach (Deanna) Kettelkamp, Beau McDonald, Bailey McDonald, and Jack Kettelkamp, great grandchildren Luke, Keeton, Sophia, Karter, Ella, Kolton and Kal, one brother Jim (Claudia) Hicks of Shabbona, IL.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday in the United Methodist Church, 220 South Cedar Street, Nokomis, Illinois 62075 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and burial will be in Kettelkamp Cemetery rural Nokomis.

Beulah Richards of Taylorville

Beulah Richards, 97 of Taylorville, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11: 56 p.m. at her residence. She was born on November 12, 1916 in Tower Hill, IL. The daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah  (Adams) Rusher.  She married Woodrow Richards in Danville, IL on January 3, 1948. He preceded her in passing on November 5, 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of M.A.D.D.. Beulah was like a mother to her granddaughter, Ann Mantell. She also played a vital role in bringing the school bus system to Taylorville.


She is survived by her daughters: Linda Lou Richards of Taylorville and Judith K. Richards of Millersville, MD; grandchildren: Wendy Mantell, Van Mantell, Ann Mantell, Brandi Porter, Michele Richardson, Jeffrey Perona, and Amanda Thomas; six great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one niece and four nephews.   
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Woodrow Richards; sons: August “Gus” Mantell and George R. Mantell; daughter: Patricia A. Richards; siblings: John, Homer, Otis, Leo, Goldie, Bertha, Charley, Dewey, Florence, Floyd and Raymond. 


Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL. Funeral  services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday , July 24, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.

Alexandrine Alex Pauline Johnson of Taylorville

Alexandrine “Alex” Pauline Johnson, 93 of Taylorville, IL passed on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville.  She was born on December 12, 1920 in Pana, IL. The daughter of Charles & Sophie (Deuchman) Faingnaert. She married Everett Johnson on September 18, 1937 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in passing on May 24, 1990.  She retired as Dietician from St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She loved playing cards, especially Solitaire and loved going to the Casino. She enjoyed her coffee and loved telling people she was a “Frenchman”. She will be remembered most of all for being a great wife, mother and grandmother.


She is survived by her sons: Jimmie (Pam) Johnson and Everett Johnson Jr. both of Taylorville, IL; daughter: Janet (Glen) Jones of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Susan Jones Moomey of St. Petersburg, FL, Jon Johnson of Taylorville, IL, Ricci (Julie) Johnson of Taylorville, IL and Chaya (Ray) Brunk of Tovey, IL; five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband: Everett; brother: Charles Faingnaert; sisters: Sophie Buesse and Charmelle Adams; daughters-in-law: Janet Johnson and Andrea Johnson.


Private Family Services will be held at a later date with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, IL.

Pamela L. Vanooser Lowe of Taylorville

Pamela L. (VanHooser) Lowe, 48 of Spring Valley, IL formerly of Taylorville passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her home.  She was born on January 8, 1966 in Taylorville daughter of Dean and Camelita (Stephenson) VanHooser.  She married Jesse Lowe in September of 2004 in Las Vegas, NV and he survives in Spring Valley, IL.


In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Anthony “Mikey” Holmes of Spring Valley, IL; daughter Kendra Renea VanHooser and companion Brett of Taylorville, IL; Grandson Camden Irwin of Taylorville, IL; Brother Michael VanHooser of Decatur, IL; Sister Gloria McClard of Taylorville, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Stephen VanHooser and her brother-in-law: Terry E. McClard.


She was a CNA for Home Bound Health Care. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings and LA Lakers fan and enjoyed playing bingo.  She also made a friend everywhere she went. 


Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.

William Tex of Taylorville

William Tex, 95, of Taylorville, IL formerly of Owaneco, died at 9:32 am Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 18, 1919 in Owaneco the son of Joseph W. and Elsie R. Hardin Tex. On November 22, 1938 he married Eileen Behl in St. Charles, MO. They celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary this past November. Bill was an active member of the Owaneco United Methodist Church all his life. He was the first one to show up to help a neighbor or friend that needed assistance. He had been a volunteer firefighter for the Owaneco Fire Department and was a former member of the Owaneco Village Board. Locust Lodge A.F. & A.M. named him Citizen of the Year for Owaneco. Bill was best known as a carpenter and contractor and the most avid Cub fan anyone has met.

Surviving is his wife, Eileen Tex of Taylorville; Son: William J. Tex and wife Kay of Springfield; Son-in-law: Beauford Coss of Nokomis; 5 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Cinda Coss, and two brothers, Bob Tex and Jack Tex.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Owaneco United Methodist Church with Rev. Betty Coffey and Rev. Diwan Tiwade officiating. Burial will be in Owaneco Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church from 9:30 until time of services on Tuesday. McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Lee Houk of Mt. Auburn

Harold Lee Houk ,  76, of Mt. Auburn, passed away on July 7, 2014 at 4:50 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on March 16, 1938 in Taylorville, IL;  the son Fred and Marjorie (Wolfe) Houk. He married Wanda McDermith on June 28, 1959 at the Edinburg Methodist Church in Edinburg, IL. He was a farmer and a member of the Christian County Shrine Club. He also belonged to the ANSAR Ag Corps.  He loved being in parades with the Ag Corps, boating and Trout fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.     

He is survived by his wife: Wanda Houk of Mt. Auburn; sons, Kevin (Melinda) Houk and Brad Houk  both of Edinburg, IL; daughter: Penny White of Springfield, IL; grandchildren Kris (Katie) White of Edinburg, IL, Lindsay (Jamie) White of Riverton, IL, Dylan Houk of Kincaid, IL, Austin Houk of Springfield, IL and Ashley Houk of Edinburg, IL; great grandchild: Mila Burcham. He was preceded in passing by his parents.


Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. With Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. by Kedron Lodge #340 A.F. & A.M. of Mt. Auburn.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Don Bettis officiating.  Burial will in Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg, IL.
