Leon Tryon of Morrisonville

Murl L. “Leon” Tryon, 62, of Morrisonville, died at 9:34 am Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 3, 1952 in Springfield, the son of Murl and Faye Sagle Tryon. On July 8, 1972 he married Linda Blount in Morrisonville, IL. This union was blessed with one daughter, Kari.  Leon’s pride and joy were his Grandkids Noah, Lucas and Kassie.  They put a spark in him every day and he was the best “Papa” of all times.  Leon was a farmer all his life; it was at the core of him.  He loved farming and talking about it with anyone.  Leon most enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and going places with friends, supporting all Church activities and traveling around the United States.  If Leon came across someone in need, he gave.  He gave when no one was looking.  He helped others with his physical hands, helped minister to them, and helped many financially.  Leon was a true Christian loving and serving other just like Christ did.  Those who really knew Leon knew this and will truly miss him.  He was liked by many but respected by all. Leon was a member and Elder of Taylorville Christian Church and was a Social Member of the Taylorville Veteran’s Home (V.F.W.).

Surviving are his wife, Linda Tryon of Morrisonville; Daughter, Kari Skinner and husband Doug of Rochester, Grandchildren, Noah Skinner, Lucas Skinner, and Kassie Skinner, Sister, Grace Himstedt and husband Glenn of Beckley, WV, Brothers, Lynn Tryon of Morrisonville and Lyle Tryon and wife Vicki of Palmer, 2 Nephews, 4 Nieces, 4 great nephews and 2 great nieces.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 3 at Taylorville Christian Church.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Church.  Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery.

Haldeen M. Sands of Taylorville

Haldeen M. Sands,  94, of Taylorville, passed away on March 26, 2014 at 6:05 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on February 21, 1920 in Mt. Auburn, IL;  the daughter of Roy H. and Hallie (Pumphrey) Reindl. She married  Glenn William Best on March 16, 1939 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in passing on August 13, 1953. She married Billy Dean Sands on December 10, 1960 in Taylorville, IL; they later divorced.  She was a Clerk at Eisner’s Grocery Store for 18 years. She also worked at the Illinois Department of Revenue in Springfield for 10 years.


She is survived by her daughters: Janet H. Busonic of Holiday Hills, IL and Mary (Mick) Driver of Ocala, FL; grandchildren: Christine (Curt) Latzke of Wheeling, IL, Valerie Swiatkowski of Woodstock, IL, Kathy (Frank) Scribano of McHenry, IL, Rebecca (Patrick) McCloskey of Glen Ellyn, IL and Michael Driver of Indianapolis, IN; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers: Ralph (Nadine) Reindl of Yucca Valley, CA and Russell Reindl of Nokomis, IL; eight nieces and seven nephews; sister-in-law, Eileen Reindl of Taylorville, IL. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, Glenn Best; siblings: Billie Reindl, Merle Reindl, Rosemary Reindl, Leroy Reindl, Glenn Reindl, Violet Pickel Schroyer and Leona Caulk.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Steve Switzer officiating.  Burial will be at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL

Robert Eugene Orr of Taylorville

Robert Eugene Orr,  78, of Taylorville, passed away on March 20, 2014 at 11:15 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL. He was born on December 29, 1935 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Harry and Myrtle (Mills) Orr. Mr. Orr served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant. E-5. He retired from Firestone in Decatur, IL.


He is survived by his brothers: Harry (Juanita) Orr, Ronald (Betty) Orr and Richard Orr all of Taylorville, IL, Roger (Retha) Orr of Shelbyville, IL; sisters: JoAnn (Owen) Harper, Karen (Tom) Harvell, Pamela (Ron) Jacobs all of Taylorville, IL and Donna (Rodger) Lefever of Edinburg, IL; sister-in-law: Janet Orr of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins He was preceded in passing by his parents, brother, Larry Orr and sister, Mary Durbin in infancy.

 
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 25, 2014  from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Chad Foster officiating.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with Military Honors by: American Legion Post #73, AMVETS Post #29, VFW Post #4495 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral and Honors Detail.

David Homer Patton of Taylorville

David Homer Patton, 87, of Roby passed away at 9:25pm Friday March 14, 2014 at the Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville.  He was born on October 3, 1926 in Roby, the son of Albert H. and Alice M. Moore Patton.  He married Benita M. Patrick on September 1, 1948 in Springfield.  She passed away on November 18, 2008.  Mr. Patton was an Army Veteran of WWII.  He was a contractor and owner of DH Patton & Sons Contractors, and DH Patton and Sons Lumber Yard in Mt. Auburn.  He was a member of the Mt. Auburn Christian Church and a 43 year member of Kedron Lodge #340 AF&AM. 

Surviving are his children: Randall Patton, wife Mary Ann, of Mt. Auburn, Marilyn Stuart, husband Steve, of Grove City, Laniesa Herman, husband Gary, of Blue Mound, William Patton, wife Noelle, of Roby, and Jackie Vincent of Edinburg; Brother: Wade Patton, wife Teresa, of Mechanicsburg; Sister: June Garren, husband Jim, of Mechanicsburg; Brother-in-Law: Wesley Matthews of Mechanicsburg; Sister-in-law: Judy Patton of Dawson; 3 Grandsons; 10 Granddaughters; 4 Great Grandsons; and 2 Great Granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: Bradley Patton; and 13 brothers and sisters. 

Private family services will be held with inurnment at a later date. Clara Mae Waterman of Taylorville

Clara Mae Waterman, 81, of Taylorville, passed away on March 11, 2014 at 9:36 p.m. at her residence in Taylorville surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 21, 1932 in Akron, OH. The daughter of Homer and Ola (Fore) Sims. She married Rex L. Waterman on July 28, 1950 in Hillsboro, IL. He preceded her in passing on March 12, 2002. Mrs. Waterman was a homemaker. She loved sewing, auctions and helping her husband on the farm. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her daughters: Diane Davis and Rhonda Evans both of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Tina (Brian) Johnson of Morrisonville, IL, Roger Stone of Henderson, KY, Nichole (Dalton) Jackson of Macomb, IL and Noah Evans of Taylorville, IL; great-grandchildren: Meghan Harris, Katelyn Harris, Alexandra Harris, Karina Stone, Emma Stone and Charles Stone; brother, Ron Sims of Coffeen, IL; sister Betty Kinnett of Taylorville, IL; sisters-in-law: Beverly “Joan” Sims, Doris Waterman, Donna Waterman and Hope Waterman all of Taylorville, IL, Viola Sims of Norfolk, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, Rex; son, Roger Waterman and brothers: Harlow Sims, Robert Sims, Dallas “Bus” Sims and Merle Sims.

Kathleen May (Zanotti) Mills of Taylorville

Kathleen May (Zanotti) Mills, 66, of Taylorville, passed away on March 13, 2014 at 7:40 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on September 1, 1947 in Kincaid, IL; the daughter Raymond and Louise (May) Zanotti. She married Terry Mills on January 4, 1963 in Taylorville, IL. She was a Sales Clerk at Wal-Mart. She loved traveling, especially to the Boat and being with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Mills of Taylorville, IL; sons: Vincent Robert Mills and Companion Kathy Whitehead of Brookfield, IL, Patrick Wayne Mills and Companion Darlene Hamm of Taylorville, IL; Kevin Michael (Jennifer) Mills of Bulpitt, IL; Travis Lynn Mills of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Toni Marie (Casey) McClure of Taylorville, IL; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Mike (Charlotte) Zanotti of Tovey, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in passing by her parents.

Mary E Long of Mt Auburn

Mary E. Long, 87, of Mt. Auburn passed away at 4:00pm, Wednesday March 12, 2014 in her home.  She was born on February 10, 1927 in May Township, the daughter of Alvin and Mattie Runyon Gesell.  On January 9, 1946 she married Victor E Long in Southfork Township.  She graduated from the Kincaid High School in 1944 where she was Homecoming Queen.  Aside from being a homemaker, Mrs. Long ran the family farm with her husband and also owned Long’s Sunshine Center & Dairy Bar in Mt. Auburn.  She was a member of the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.  She was active in and served as an officer of many organizations including the Eastern Star, Mt. Auburn PTA, a Boy Scout, Cub Scout, and Girl Scout leader, American Legion Auxiliary,  Ladies Auxiliary of the ATA, White Shrine, Lady Landowners of Christian County, Christian County Farm Bureau and Women’s Committee, and the Twilight Homemakers.

Mrs. Long is survived by her sons: Jerry Long, wife Jane Ann, of Middleburg KY, and Tommie Long, wife Kathy, of Patoka; daughter: Anne Horne, husband Robert, of Blue Mound.  Grandchildren: William Long, wife Christina, Sarah Jensen, husband Joshua, Amanda Hartman, husband Gary, Shawna Cole, husband Chris, Deanna Fonner, husband Rick, Travis Horne, and Kelly Brown, husband Jeremy; Great Grandchildren: Derek Long, Lucille, Eva, and Henry Jensen, Justin,  Andrew, and Annabelle Hartman, Dylan Collier, Hayden Cole, Brock Fonner, Tess Horne, Claire Horne, Ava, Ella, Thalia, and Rylan Brown; and several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, husband, and sister: Leonore Noren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, March 17, 2014 in the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church With Rev. George Heineman and Rev. Bob Cook officiating.  Visitation will be held from 3 until 6pm on Sunday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Burial will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.  

Memorials may be left to the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church, Memorial Home Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.

Elwood Lyle Moffett of Stonington

Elwood Lyle Moffett, 80, of Stonington, IL, passed away on March 13, 2014 at 7:20 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on November 16, 1933 in Osbernville, OH; the son Edgar and Lizzie (Cochran) Moffett.He married Dorothy Vincent on July 28. 1952 in Mt. Auburn, IL. He retired from the Garwood Seed Company after 45 years of service. He served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Moffett was baptized in the Christian Church and was a member of the Christian County Garden Tractor Association. In addition to garden tractor pulling, he enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. He loved Illini Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Stonington, IL; sons: Micky (Nancy) Moffett of Stonington, IL, Neil (Lisa) Moffett of Wyoming, IL, Andy Moffett of San Diego, CA, Kevin (Sandy) Moffett of Moweaqua, IL, Robert Moffett of Stonington, IL; daughter, Sandy Moffett Blood of Springfield, IL; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; great-great granddaughter, Ava; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, brother, Bernard Moffett; sister, Verna Smith and grandson, Luke.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Old Stonington Cemetery, Stonington, IL, with Military Honors conducted by AMVETS Post #29, Taylorville American Legion Post #73, VFW Post # 4495, Stonington American Legion Post #257 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral and Honors Detail

Kevin James Uban Clarke of Taylorville

Kevin James “Uban” Clarke, 51, of Taylorville passed away at 1:19pm, Monday, March 10, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville.  He was born on May 9, 1962, the son of Richard “Dyke” and Therese Crivello Clarke.  On May 5, 1990 he married Susan McKenna at Little Flower Catholic Church in Springfield.  Mr. Clarke was an veteran of the US Army.  Kevin was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.

He is survived by his wife: Susan Clarke, of Taylorville; Daughters: Jazmine Clarke and Michele Clarke of Taylorville, Mother Therese Clarke, of Taylorville; Brothers: Ric Clarke of Nashville TN, Mark Clarke, wife Fran, of Nashville TN, and Terry Clarke, wife JoAnn, of Elmhurst, IL; Sisters: Tracy Mahan of Taylorville, Anne Lotter, husband Albert, of Dallas GA, and Kerri Williams, husband Dennis, of Tovey; Nieces and Nephews: Doug Taft, Allison Learned, Anthony Clark, Daniel Mahan, Kelly Johnston, Karri Orrison, Taylor Clarke, and Patrick Clarke.

He was preceded in death by his Father.

Charles Arthur Patton of Taylorville

 

Charles Arthur Patton, 87, of Taylorville, passed away on March 4, 2014 at 10:00 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on December 18, 1926 in Liberty Center, OH; the son Homer Edward and Bertha Dell (Stockard) Patton. He married Norma Mills on August 24, 1949 in Taylorville and they were later divorced. He was a member and a carpenter with Local #16 retiring in 1988. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Patton loved to play pool.

 

He is survived by his son, Terry (Paula) Patton of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Linda Canale and Kathy (Jim) Pitchford both of Taylorville, IL; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, four brothers: John D. Patton, Lawrence Patton, Bernard Patton and Homer Patton; sister, Mary Ellen Thrane.

Natalie A. Sanders of Taylorville

Natalie A. Sanders, 83, of Taylorville, IL died at 7:11 pm Tuesday, March 4, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 4, 1930 in Roby, IL the daughter of Clarence A. and Pearl J. Cummins Porter. On October 11, 1947 she married Paul H. Sanders in Springfield. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2007. Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker and a member of Midland United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the Christian County Senior Citizens Center and the Kincaid Senior Citizens Center, and was a former member of the Lioness Club in Taylorville.

Surviving are her son: Dennis Sanders and wife Debbie of Taylorville and Daughters: Paula Lenger of Kentwood, MI and Martha Bowsher and husband Jim of Taylorville. Grandchildren: Stephen Lenger and wife Tara, Laura Aulbach and husband Gordy, D.J. Sanders, Chad Sanders and wife Erin, Joshua Sanders and wife Kelli, Jill Ridgley and husband Jerry, and Caleb Bowsher and wife Hope. Great Grandchildren: Treat Lenger, Emaline Lenger, Justin Scott, Khayli Scott, Lauryn Scott, Austyn Stiner, Shaylie Sanders, Gabe Shultz, Mason Clay, Faith Clay, Aryonna Sanders, Noah Sanders, Chaylee Sanders, Mina Sanders, Hunter Sanders, Savanna Ruppert, Brody Ridgley, and Grace Ridgley. Rita Ann Rever of Taylorville

Rita Ann Rever 67, of Taylorville, passed away on March 4, 2014 at 5:53 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield IL. She was born on February 8, 1947 in Decatur, IL; the daughter Denzel “Nick” and Letha (Bierman) Nixon.She married John O. “Jack” Rever on August 9, 1985 in Taylorville, IL. She retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue after 44 years of service. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Taylorville, IL. Mrs. Rever was an avid lover of kitty cats, crocheting and cross word puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, John O. “Jack” Rever of Taylorville, IL; sons: John Rever of St. Joseph, Mo and Rob (Mary) Rever of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Shara (Greg) Schuh of Taylorville, IL and Rhonda Beck and Companion Everett Johnson of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Samantha, Andrew, Alex and Nick Rodgers; Dallas Beck; Steven, Matt, Zach, Tim and Luke Rever; brothers: Bob (JoAnne) Nixon of Argenta, IL and Philip (Doris) Nixon of North Carolina; sisters: Sharon Shull of Decatur IL, Denise (Eric) Hoft of South Carolina; her very special great-grandson, Logan Rodgers and her three loving cats; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathryn Marie (Griffiths) Matta of Taylorville

Kathryn Marie (Griffiths) Matta, 92, of Taylorville, passed away on March 2, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on August 3, 1921 in Prairieton Twp., IL; the daughter of Eugene Farnsworth and Ida Marie (Dotson) Griffiths. She married Cleo Brower and later they divorced. She married Dominic P. Matta on May 10, 1958 in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in passing on November 19, 1992. She was a retired LPN and a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her son, Edward (Benita) Brower of Rose Hill, KS; daughter, Marjorie (David) Adams of Minnetrista, MN; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Willa Mae)Griffiths of Idaho; sister-in-law, Helen Griffiths of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, Dominic and brother Lyle Griffiths.

Betty Jane Hill of Taylorville

Betty Jane Hill, 89, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:42 am Monday, March 3, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

She was born August 22, 1924 in Farmersville, IL the daughter of Roy William and Charlotte Mundhink Welge. On November 29, 1941 she married Elmer B. Hill in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2002. Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur, IL.

Surviving are her children: Roy David Hill and Susan Lockard and husband Terry all of Taylorville. Grandchildren: Josiah Lockard and wife Priscilla, Jesse Lockard and wife Cassie, Sarah Lockard, Seth Lockard, Hannah Durbin and husband B.J., and Brittany Hill Great Grandchildren: Dinah Lockard, Gabriel Lockard, and Katelynn Lockard. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 8 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Friday at the Funeral Home. McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Lorraine Schmedeke of Harvel

Pearl Lorraine Schmedeke, 89 of Harvel passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 10:50 PM at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born on November 11, 1924 at Harvel the daughter of Harry and Nora (Thunhorst) Harbert. She married Robert Schmedeke; he preceded her in death. She then married Albert Davis; he also preceded her in death as did her parents; Son, Nyle Schmedeke; Brother, Lloyd Harbert; Sisters, Temple Schmedeke and Marie Miles.

Pearl worked alongside her husband, Robert on the family farm. She also baked wedding cakes and hung wallpaper. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts. Pearl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Married Peoples Society, Harvel Alumni and Red Hats all of Harvel.

Survivors: Daughter, Joyce (husband, Mike) Dullenty of Morrisonville, IL; Son, Ivan (wife, Sally) Schmedeke of Harvel, IL; Daughter in law, Cheryl Schmedeke of Morrisonville, IL; Step daughters, Anita (husband, Don) Seitz of Seneca, SC and Rita (husband, Lee) Specht-Hartwig of Johnsburg, IL; Grandchildren, Kevin (Kerri) Schmedeke, Stacey (Rob) Clarke, Trista (Blake) Reed, Cheri (Scott) Herpstreith, Duane (April) Schmedeke, Brian (Kedra) Schmedeke, Becky (Patrick) Koerner, Tina (Darrell) Titus, Lisa (David) Tan, Ryan (Linda) Henry, Chris (Jason) Lipe, Tom (Kelly) Dullenty, Beth Reynolds, Christian Specht, Jim (Beth) Specht, Steve (Connie) Seitz, Greg (Jill) Seitz and David (Jennifer) Seitz; 43 Great Grandchildren; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel with Pastor Scott Busacker officiating. Burial will follow at Harvel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the church.

Donna Loraine Paine, 64 of Morrisonville passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 5:20 AM at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born on April 29, 1949 at Taylorville the daughter of Arthur Thomas “Cotton” and Loraine Elizabeth (Williams) Paine Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents; Sister, Joyce Clements; Niece, Paula Clements; Nephew, Kevin Paine.

Donna worked for the State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, retiring in 2003. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and macramé. She was a 1967 graduate of Morrisonville High School.

Survivors: Brothers, Arthur T. (wife, Renee) Paine Jr. of Morrisonville, IL and John R. (wife, Sandy) Paine of Taylorville, IL; Brother in law, Donald Clements of Morrisonville, IL; Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Noon at Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating. Burial will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 10:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.
