Richard Jack Risdon, 72 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 10:50 p.m. at Pana Community Hospital in Pana, IL. He was born on May 16, 1947 in Vinton, IA the son of Charles Oliver and Virginia Marie (Jack) Risdon. He married Rietta (Schwab) Howell on January 6, 1996 in Springfield, IL. Richard worked as a Public Inquiry Officer for the Illinois Secretary of State, he was a manager at Gordon Olds in Taylorville and he was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Richard was a member of the Buckeye United Methodist Church in Owaneco.
He is survived by his Wife: Rietta Risdon of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Dawn (Steve) Carlson of Cedar Rapids, IA; Amy (Darren) Neiss of Fargo, ND; Grandchildren: Brandon Arion, Mitchell Neiss, Piper David; Great-Grandchildren: Noah Neiss, Chloe Arion, Riley Arion; Step-Son: David (Tammy) Howell of Taylorville, IL; Step-Daughter: Karrie (Brian) Gatton of Taylorville, IL; Step-Grandchildren: Kayla, Karlee and David Howell; Colton and Avril Gatton; Step-Great-Granddaughter Isabella McQuinn; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Carrie David and sister: Karen Blackburn.

Ralph Mathers Sloman, 90, of Taylorville died Monday, May 27, 2019 at his home. Mr. Sloman was born March 22, 1929 in Springfield, the son of George and Jennie (Mathers) Sloman. After graduating from Morrisonville Community High School, Ralph attended Shurtluff College in Alton and then transferred to the University of Illinois where he earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture. He enlisted in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Eva Elizabeth (Beth) Monroe on July 9, 1954; she preceded him in death in 2011. To this union was born a daughter, Dawn Ilene Sloman, who tragically died in 1982 in an automobile accident. Ralph enjoyed life as a farmer retiring after 39 years from the fields of Christian County. In 1985 he received the prestigious Prairie Farmer "Master Farmer" award. For more than 50 years, he was a member of Zenobia Baptist Church and later continued to serve his Lord at Bethel Baptist Church. He was a King Township trustee and served on boards of Morrisonville School District, Morrisonville-Palmer Fire District, Lake Springfield Baptist Camp as well as over 40 years of service to University of Illinois Extension Council and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Ralph loved being a part of his community, enjoyed mentoring and was faithful in his visitation of shut-ins.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Maude Higgins (Duane) of Matthews, NC; John Sloman (Rita) of Rockfield, KY; Rachel Broughton (Perry) of Pawnee, IL; Vicki McMillian (Joe) of Galloway Township, NJ; Carol Fontenot (Dave) of Sulphur, LA; Ray Pryne of Iowa Park, TX; one sister-in-law: Paula Pryne of Galloway Township, NJ; and one very special “adopted daughter,” Patty Taglioli, Taylorville, who cared for him like he was her father.

Mr. Sloman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and daughter, brother and sister-in-law Wheeler and Catherine Sloman.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Internment with full military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Elsie Louise Weber, 66 of Taylorville, died at 8:43 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Elsie was born on January 12, 1953, the daughter of Alva and Winifred (Holmes) Thomas. She married Virgil Weber on April 2, 1975 in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2002. Elsie loved word search puzzles, Bingo, and playing computer games. She was well known for her spitfire personality, and everyone who knew her will miss her. 

Elsie is survived by her siblings: Kenneth Holmes of Taylorville; Dawn Garrett of Booneville, IN; Sue Benton (companion, George Frauli) of Taylorville; Sherry Antonio (companion, Wayne Cash) of Taylorville; Richard Thomas of Gillespie; Stephanie Thomas (companion, Allan Thompson) of Stonington; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews – all who loved her dearly. 

Along with her husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law: Rick Garrett, and nephew: Aaron Garrett.

A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Paul Eugene Hoffmeister, 90 of Taylorville, died at 4:21 p.m., Monday, May 27, 2019 at St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, Paul was born on June 10, 1928 in St. Louis, IL, the son of Frank and Elsie (Lane) Hoffmeister. Paul married Betty Jean Oliver on September 20, 1947 in Taylorville. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2014. After their marriage, Paul went on to serve in the United States Army. Paul worked many jobs, and enjoyed each one of them, retiring and then going back to work to fill his spare time. He worked as a guard at Menard and Vandalia Prisons, as a supervisor for Georgia Pacific as well as GSI, and later worked for the Taylorville Country Club Golf Course. When he wasn’t working, he could be found taking a walk or on the golf course.

Paul is survived by his children: Cheryl (Tim) Hampton of Waggoner; Tresa (Mitch) Mansfield of Taylorville, and Mark (Peggy) Hoffmeister of Langleyville; grandchildren: Michael (Jolene) Lamb, Jennifer (Scott) Hutchens, Nicole Hampton, Willie (Amber) Coady, Amanda Dill, Jessica (Brad) Bell, Joee (Terry) Johnson, Sara (Stephen) Salisbury, Eric (Stephanie) Price, Greg Price, Brittni Harrison, and Carrie Harrison; 20 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one son-in-law: Daryl Harrison; brother: Frank Hoffmeister, Jr of Arizona; and one sister-in-law: Donna Beaman and her family.
Along with his wife, Paul was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Michael Hoffmeister, and one daughter: Juliann Harrison.

In accordance with Paul’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no service. The family will host a private burial at Blue Mound Cemetery at a later date.

Michael Patrick Sanders, 57 of Taylorville, passed away at 12:46a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on November 4, 1961 in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Larry Charles Murphy and Melinda Brown.  Michael was adopted by William Sanders and raised by his maternal grandparents: Joe & Mildred Rainey.  He married Maurita K. Fleming on November 6, 1992 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  Michael was a detail-oriented and results-focused Supply Chain/Logistics and Business Service professional with more than 30 years’ experience in his field.   He previously worked for Fast Food Merchandisers in Taylorville as an Operations Manager before joining Dynegy/Illinois Power Company in Decatur where he served as the Director of Supply Chain Management and Fleet Services.  Michael then continued his work with Dynegy in Houston, Texas as the Vice President of Business Services and Chief Procurement Officer and finally working as an Enterprise Real Estate and Facilities Manager for Halcon Resources.  Michael was passionate about his work, a career that took him to job sites all across the country.  In June of 2003 his work was published in Transmission & Distribution World Magazine in an article entitled: Better Materials, Better Performance.  Michael and Marty previously operated The Neighborhood Dry Cleaners in Taylorville for several years.  In his free time, he enjoyed working on his Fords, both his 8N tractor as well as his antique truck.  He loved his time spent enjoying the outdoors, not only working on his property and fishing, but also watching wildlife such as the deer that came into his backyard every morning, a group he affectionately called the “breakfast club”.

Michael is survived by his wife: Marty Sanders of Taylorville; children: Joseph Thomas Sanders (Krista) of Blue Springs, Missouri and Michelle Renee Sanders of Republic, Missouri; grandchildren: Kaylee Marie Sanders and Hannah Marie Sanders; father: Larry C. Murphy of Galveston, Texas; siblings: Timothy Charles Sanders (Monica) of Independence, Missouri, Sandy Cotton (Chris) of Blue Springs, Missouri, Jimmy Sanders of Independence, Missouri, David Sanders (Reta) of San Diego, California, Mike Sanders (Shari) of Belton, and Patricia Wilson, Lynda Carter (Terry), and Pam Harper (Mike) all 3 of Salem, Missouri, sisters and brothers-in-law: Kathy Ray (Dean), Bob Fleming Jr. (Helga) and Suzzy Cocagne all of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, adopted father, grandparents, and sister-in-law: Deborah Stivers.  

Michael will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Michael St. Louis officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10am until 12pm. Friday.  Inurnment will take place at the St. Maurice Cemetery in Morrisonville.  Memorials may be made to Christian County Animal Control.

Mr. Dennis “Denny” Beaman, 72 of Langleyville, IL passed from this life at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Taylorville, IL June 17, 1946 the son of Miller R. and Mary E. (Huber) Beaman.  Denny graduated from Taylorville High School.  He married Connie McElfresh on June 23, 1997 in Taylorville, IL.
Mr. Beaman was a member of the Catholic Faith.  He worked for more than 20 years at Peabody Mine #10 near Pawnee.  Denny later worked for 6 years at NAPA Auto parts, Taylorville and helped with appliance repair at Sebben’s in Langleyville.  Mr. Beaman enjoyed camping, canoeing and spending time with his family.  He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, a Cardinal’s fan and he enjoyed being outdoors and working in the yard.  
Surviving are his wife Connie of Langleyville, IL a daughter Lorinda Lamken-Finnell and her husband John Finnell of Springfield, IL sons Robert and his wife Michelle Beaman of Taylorville, IL Tom and his wife Dena Mozie of Taylorville, IL  a daughter Kim and her husband Harold Woods of Charleston, IL a son Rob Mozie and his fiancée Jen Law of Taylorville, IL., a sister Barb Bauer and 3 brothers Jack (wife Earlene) Beaman, Darrel (wife Bev) Beaman all of Taylorville, IL and Bill Beaman all of Dixon, Iowa 13 grandchildren: Travis, Jake and Connor Lamken, Zach, Bryce and Heather Beaman, Olyvia and Alyse Mozie, Nich, Joe and Lucas McDevitt, and Hailey and Blake Mozie, along with several nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by an infant daughter Theresa Kay Beaman and his parents.

Wilda Louise Prater, 90 of Fillmore passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 8:20 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taylor Springs, IL. She was born on August 3, 1928 in Decatur, IL the daughter of W. Lawrence and Esther M. (Bauer) Walker. She married Norval L. Prater on August 10, 1946 in Fillmore, IL and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2002. Wilda provided tax service for the community for over 55 years and she attended the Fillmore Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Judie Hansen, 75, of Taylorville passed away on May 23rd at 6:05 pm, at Life’s Journey Senior Living Center in Taylorville. She was born on August 10, 1943 in Lake Forest, IL, the daughter of Mary (Davidson) and James Stephens.  She married Charles Hansen on June 29, 1968, recently celebrating 50 years of marriage.
Judie began her career as a high school physical education teacher at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL.  After four years, she paused to start a family, then Judie switched to teaching at the pre-school level for 14 years.  After moving to Taylorville, she continued working with 4-year olds in the PREP program. An Illinois resident all her life, Judie grew up in Lake Forest, built her family and career in Northbrook, then she and Chuck “retired” to Taylorville in 1993. Judie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville.

Judie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ann Taylor.

She is survived by her husband, Chuck Hansen of Taylorville; daughters: Elizabeth (Jeff) Weatherford of Springfield, IL, and Jodie (Mark) Zaslavsky of Libertyville, IL; grandchildren: Ashlyn and Kyle Weatherford and Zach and CJ Zaslavsky.

Connie LaDon Brubaker, 69, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:56 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at her home.  She was born on September 15, 1949 in Salem, IL, the daughter of Floyd and Marjorie (Conant) Jones.  She graduated from Kinmundy-Alma High School in the Class of 1967, obtained her Associate of Arts from Kaskaskia College, and then a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale.  Her career was devoted to education.  She was gifted with accepting people as they were while knowing just how to challenge them.  She taught a variety of English and literature classes for 29 years at Litchfield High School.  After stepping out of the classroom, she moved on as an implementation specialist and consultant for the Academic Development Institute in affiliation with Temple University as well as a consultant and developer for Western Illinois University’s GED Illinois Online Project.  She later taught several classes for Lincoln Land Community College before culminating her career with the Illinois Community College Board as a project coordinator for a project providing professional development workshops for administrators, technology coordinators and higher education faculty.

Connie’s faith provided deep fulfillment through service and relationships.  She was the organist at St. Timothy United Methodist Church for many years.  She was also a member of a small Bible Study group that she thoroughly enjoyed.  Most recently she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Taylorville where she helped in tabulating the financial contributions.  

In her leisure time, Connie enjoyed reading, writing and traveling.  Her home provided her with comfort and relaxation over the years.  A published author, Connie’s love of nature inspired the title for her book of poetry published in 2006, “Leaving the Limberlost”.

She married James Ray Brubaker on August 8, 1970 in Wesley United Methodist Church in Patoka, IL.  Together they enjoyed art, antique stores and conversation.  As their family grew, vacations became a yearly highlight.  The past decade has been all about the grandchildren – love, laughter and kisses.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Brubaker is survived by: two children - Stephanie (Matt) Lawson of Troy, IL and Ben Brubaker of Maryville, IL; two brothers - Stan (Linda) Jones and Roger (Cathy) Jones, both of Alma, IL; three granddaughters - Hannah Lawson, Emma and Grace Brubaker; several nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and one nephew.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville, and also for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday.  Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Sandy Branch Cemetery in rural Alma with time afterward for family at Wesley United Methodist Church. Yolanda Collebrusco, 96 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 4:21 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 1, 1923 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Attilio and Clara Bertucci. She married Richard R. Collebrusco on December 27, 1944 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on April 6, 2015. Yolanda worked as a homemaker and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

Darrel worked as a Rural Development Specialist with the USDA and he was a member of Kincaid Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL.

William Edward Bland, 90 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 1:04 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on December 21, 1928 in Taylorville, IL the son of Thomas J. and Julia (Smith) Bland Sr. He married Glenna H. Hubler on August 11, 1951 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and she preceded him in death. Bill worked as a Dairy Farmer for Jeff Bland Dairy, Material Supervisor at Hopper Paper Company and he retired from the Taylorville Street Department.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL, Knights of Columbus and was a social member of the VFW post #4495. 

He is survived by his Sons: Jeffrey M. (Janet) Bland of Taylorville, IL; Dennis E. (Kelly) Bland of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Sabrina Bland, Sadie Furman, Will Bland and Polly Bland; Great-Grandchildren: Aaron, Andrew and Lucy Furman; Liam and Oliver Bland; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Brother Thomas J. Bland Jr. and Sister Patricia Jenkins.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Msgr. David Lantz officiating. Mark A. Lash, 45, of Springfield, IL formerly of Chatham, IL and Tovey, IL passed from this life on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his home in Springfield, IL. He was born in Benton, IL on February 26, 1974 the son of Cheryl and Dick Peat and Harry Lash. Mark attended schools in Kincaid and Virden, IL where he excelled in sports especially basketball. He attended Lincoln Land Community College and received a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis on a full basketball scholarship.

Mark married Amy Clevenger May 20, 2000 at Chatham Baptist Church. He formerly worked as the Drivers Ed teacher for Chatham Schools and served as their Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball team from 2007 to 2010. Mark also coached for Auburn and Pleasant Plaines and briefly taught P.E. at Douglas School in Springfield.

Surviving are his wife of 18 years Amy Lash, sons Mason and Ryan Lash all of Chatham, IL his mother Cheryl (Dick) Peat of Tovey, IL his father Harry Lash of Kincaid, IL sisters Carol (Dan) Landers of Decatur IL., and Michelle Kearney of Bulpitt, IL, brother Richard Peat of Kincaid, IL., a great many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and huge host of friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, brother Fritz Peat, father-in-law Marvin Clevenger, uncle Ricky Taylor, aunt Ada Tanner.

Cecil Howard, 88 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 10:16 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on December 15, 1930 in Mud Luck, KY the son of Cecil Monroe and Betty Jane (Bray) Howard. He married Bonnie Howard on September 26, 2002 in Chatham, IL. Cecil was a retired salesman and owner of Naturals and Arlene's Deli on the Taylorville Square. He was a Marine Veteran of the Korean War and he earned a purple heart. He was involved in the Senior Olympics up until he was 81 years old and he loved to play golf.

He is survived by his Wife: Bonnie Howard of Taylorville, IL; Son: Gary Howard of Vandalia, IL; Daughter: Linda Howard of Florida, Nine grandchildren; Step-Sons: William L. Dodson of Riverton, IL; Christopher Michael Dodson of Springfield, IL; Step-Daughter: Melissa Renee’ Bryant of Springfield, IL; Sisters: Ruth and Doris; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, and 1 son.

Bonita (Bonny) Franklin went to meet the Lord on May 17th 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield surrounded by family.

Bonny and twin sister Becky were born March 20, 1944 in Taylorville to parents Clement and Helen Leinen.  She was raised on their farm and attended school in Pawnee. Bonny received a degree in specialized education at Illinois State University in1966.  She taught for 33 years for MidState Special Education.  She had an awarding career launching new ideas and concepts in the special education field.  She was awarded by the school and students loved her. Bonny was also co-owner and teacher of Tiny Tepee Nursery School in Pawnee.

Bonny and Husband G. Alan Franklin were married on Aug 10th 1968, and celebrated 50 years of marriage.  They were a team – teachers, dancing partners and travelers traveling across the U.S and Europe.  They lived on the Leinen Centennial Farm in Christian County all of their married life.  They were proud parents of Alana Sue Franklin and Alison (Ryan) Jacobs and second mother to Elizabeth Pleshe.  She boasted of attending so many school activities and then later school actives for her beloved grandchildren Meana and Mason Jacobs.

Bonny was active member of Morrisonville Methodist Church and focused on the Children’s programs.  She was a red Hat Lady, and Member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Eastern Star.  She volunteered for Kumler food pantry in Springfield. Bonny enjoyed gardening and tending to her beloved flowers.  A special time was in the fall when she and Alan would drink coffee on the porch swing and watch the thousands of monarch butterflies who chose her yard as a resting place on their migration south.  She was an animal lover and held a special place in her heart for her pets. Bonny was the matriarch of the Leinen Family.  She will be sadly missed for her lavish holiday dinners, reunions and parties. 

Private family graveside service will be held at a future time at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Cheryl Ann Bauman, 60 of Mt. Auburn, passed away at 6:09a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 in her home.  She was born on October 26, 1958 in Decatur, the daughter of Jerome and Ada (Reed) Gipson.  She married William H. Bauman II on July 23, 1983 in Niantic.  Cheryl worked for many years for the Taylorville School District at the Mt. Auburn School and the schools in Taylorville.  She loved spending time outdoors, especially while camping, fishing, and mushroom hunting and also enjoyed painting.  Above all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.  

She is survived by her husband: William Bauman II of Mt. Auburn; children: Heather Brown of Niantic, Jerry Brown of Decatur, and Zach Bauman, fiancée Tonya Welch, of Taylorville; 12 grandchildren; step-son: Brian Parga of Springfield; siblings: Paula Gipson, Donna Gipson, Joyce Deters, John Blanchard, Donnie Blanchard, Denny Gipson and Roy Blanchard; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and niece: Michelle Gipson.  

A memorial service for Cheryl will be held at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Dan Armstrong officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10 until 11a.m. Wednesday.  Memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, St. Louis.

James V. Smith, of Granite City, formerly of Taylorville passed away Friday, May 10th at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Il.

Jim was born October 18, 1956 in Taylorville to Victor Lee and Marilyn Jean Emerson Smith.

Jim is survived by daughters Heide and Jennifer, six grandchildren, brother David (Frances) Smith, sister Michelle (Don) Schmidt, brother in law Harley Mize and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Maggie Mize and Gale Thome.

Patricia “Patty” Richardson, 94 of Taylorville, Illinois passed away peacefully on May 13, 2019 with her family at her bedside at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Pana, Illinois. Patty was born on March 20, 1925 in Decatur, Illinois the daughter of William and Grace Whalen. She attended Decatur schools. Patty married Gordon E. Richardson on April 28, 1950 and they enjoyed 60 years together. He preceded her in death in August of 2010. Patty Devoted spending numerous hours enjoying her family, grandchildren and traveling by RV with Gordon to many locations throughout the US. She also enjoyed spending the winter months in Sun City, Arizona where she developed a love for painting ceramics. Patty was a lifelong member of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Richardson is survived by one daughter: Pam (Steve) Gregory of Four Seasons, MO; three sons: Craig (Karla) Richardson, Randy (Lisa) Richardson, and Kent (Barbara) Richardson, all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Shuree Sockel and Amy Fila both of St. Louis, MO, Matthew Richardson of Fremont, NE, Amber Sims of Colona, IL, Kevin Richardson of Chicago, IL; John Richardson of Springfield, IL, Kate Richardson of Portland, OR, Blake Richardson of Taylorville, IL and Kyle Richardson of Dewitt, IL; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Tommy and Gerry Whalen; Sister: Rose Marie “Cookie” Nichols all of Decatur, IL  and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and her three brothers Jack, David and Bill.

Brozella “Brodie” Odam, age 90, of Benton, passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior, at 4:23 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Parkway Manor Nursing Home of Marion, Illinois. Brozella was born on July 10, 1928 in West Frankfort, Illinois, the daughter of Kirby Irvin and Mary Magdelene (Perryman) Irvin.  She was married to Fred Odam, and he preceded her in death in 1986. She was a member of the Logan Church of God where she was an active member especially in the kitchen. She enjoyed attending church, and visiting with friends and family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Odam is survived by three children: Donna Baerg and husband Ron of Peoria, AZ, Fred Odam of Stonington, IL, Rev. Larry Odam and wife Glenna of Tulsa, OK; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Troy Irvin of Key West, FL, and Ted Irvin and wife Carolyn of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers Donald Irvin and Sam Irvin; four sisters: Janice Kay Irvin, Betty Myers, Ellafair Gunnells and Almeda Tadlock.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Logan Church of God with Rev. Larry Odam and Rev. Rick Fowler officiating.  Burial will be in the Plasters Grove Cemetery of Thompsonville.  Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, and from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday at the church.

Victoria Lee Argo, 59 of Edinburg, died at 3:59 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Born on July 25, 1959, Vicky was the daughter of Donald Prince and Marilyn Wilson. She married Melvin Argo on August 9, 1975 in Taylorville, and he survives. Vicky worked as a Sterile Processing Coordinator for Decatur Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, and especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren. She was dedicated to supporting them at their sporting events whenever she was able. In her own spare time, she loved being on the boat or taking a ride on the motorcycle. She loved her family and she will be dearly missed.

Along with her husband of almost 44 years, Vicky is survived by her children: Dena (Thomas) Mozie of Taylorville, Josh (Kiley) Argo of Taylorville, Jake (Nicole) Argo of Edinburg; 6 grandchildren: Olyvia, Alyse, Tayler, Drake, Lane, and Levi; and one brother: Rick (Bette) Prince.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother: David Prince.

Susan Frances Simmons, 80, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Prairie Rose Healthcare Center in Pana, IL.

Susan was born June 13, 1938 in Standard City, IL, the daughter of Brian and Hazel (Goodwin) Lazenby. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1956, and shortly after she married Amos L. Simmons on June 13, 1956 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1997. Susan was a homemaker, devoting her time to raising her sons. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, word searches, and had a green thumb in the vegetable garden.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Paul Simmons; brother, Albert Lazenby; sisters, Alberta Simmons, Virginia Lash, and Mary Lazenby; and daughter-in-law, Gail Simmons.

Susan is survived by her sons, Tim L. Simmons of Libertyville, KY, and Raymond C. Simmons, Jerry L. Simmons, and Wilbur P. Simmons, all of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Timmy, Joshua, and Christina Simmons; several great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruth) Lazenby of Jerseyville, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Drew Michael Pettijohn, 19, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his residence.

Drew, known by his closest friends and family as “Drew Boo” and “Elmo”, was born December 4, 1999 in Las Vegas, NV, the son of Shawna M. Matthews and David M. Pettijohn. He had a great sense of humor, and always knew how to cheer someone up when they were having a bad day. Drew loved his family dearly, and was especially protective of his siblings. He was a cat whisperer, and enjoyed mudding, fishing, and hunting. Drew loved kids, and they loved him, especially his nieces.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Frank and Jenny Parker, and Stan and Gerry Matthews; paternal great grandparents, Jerry Stanfill, and Margaret and Edward Morris; uncle, Richard Dale Stanfill; cousin, Joshua Kates; and great aunt, Yvonne Gubler.

Colette Sue Poole, 60, of Taylorville passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was born on August 20, 1958 in Taylorville the daughter of Harvey and Gerealine (Shadowen) Haynes. She was a lifetime resident of Taylorville and attended Taylorville Schools.

Colette is survived by her three children: Heather Poole, Joshua and Jeremiah Miller; two granddaughters: Ryann Lynn Ethridge and Hadleigh Miller; Grandson Maddox Miller; Mother: Gerealine Haynes Hartig, Sister: Gina Haynes Richardson, Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Wanda Blount, 93, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Wanda was born October 4, 1925 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of William and Nellie (Patterson) Vidmar. She married Charles Russell “Shorty” Blount on October 31, 1945 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1998.

Wanda graduated from Taylorville High School in 1943. In her younger years, she worked for H & R Block, Piggly Wiggly, and the ammunition plant in Illiopolis, IL. For most of her life, she was a home maker, working the farm with her husband, and raising her children. Wanda enjoyed, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and a good card game. She was also crafty, enjoying crocheting. Wanda was a great cook, and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a past Cub Scout Leader, and a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Doug Blount; great grandson, Evan Blount; daughter-in-law, Lorna K. Blount; brothers, Bill (Irene), Don (Sidney), Myron, and John (Judy) Vidmar; and sister, Jean (Turk) Smith.

Robert D. Travis, 75 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 5:09 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on November 5, 1943 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Bert and Jeannette (Bouwkneqt) Kugels Sr. He married Sharon Durbin-Stewart on January 12, 2011 in Taylorville, IL. Robert mowed for the Taylorville golf course, was the owner of Taylorville Taxi and was a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his Wife: Sharon Travis of Taylorville, IL; Sons: Steve (Celia) Walker of Litchfield, IL; Brian Kugels and Companion Erin Evans of Nokomis, IL; Mark Stewart of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Gail (John) Cox of Pana, IL; Amanda Stewart and Fiancé Blake Simmons of Taylorville, IL; Eight Grandchildren; Eleven Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Peter Thomas Parish, 71, of Taylorville, IL passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:30 a.m. surrounded by his family at Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello, IL. 

Pete was born on February 14, 1948 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Blanche (Plew) Parish of Chariton, Iowa.  He married Rhonda (Goodman) Younker on January 1, 1995 and they later divorced.  

He graduated from Chariton High School in 1967. He then went on to play football in college at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, where he later graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Pete was retired and throughout his career he enjoyed working in management where he managed many restaurants, golf courses, retirement homes, was a district manager for Dollar General, and eventually managed his own lawncare business. His biggest passion was owning and operating Green Gables Restaurant where he spent most of his time cooking.

Pete was most proud of his title, Papa Pete, as his grandchildren were his world.  He didn’t know a stranger, and was full of orneriness.  He also enjoyed sports of any kind (especially his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes), drinking coffee with his friends, and spending time in the kitchen cooking.  In his younger years he devoted a lot of his time to the Jaycees, Optimist Club, and the Lions Club.  

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Matt) Younker-Crawford of Monticello, IL; son, Cody (Tara) Younker of Litchfield, IL; granddaughter, Rilynn Younker; grandsons, Parish Younker, Macklyn Younker, and Benjamin Crawford; nieces, Michelle Wessel and Dianna Wills of Iowa; nephews, Bill Potts of Iowa, Joe Potts of Florida, and Scott Gaumer of Iowa; as well as several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John DelPierre; sister-in-law, Margaret DelPierre; sister, Madeline Potts; brother-in-law, Bill Potts; as well as nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Moulton, 95, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 9:55 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana, IL.

Betty was born June 15, 1923 in Carrollton, IL, the daughter of Harlan and Dorothea (Mills) Farrow. She married Harry Willard Moulton on May 15, 1941 in Union, MO. Harry preceded her in death on May 24, 2000.

Betty attended Taylorville High School, and graduated from Carrollton High School. She was a homemaker most of her life, and worked for the State of Illinois Veterans Affairs office for 5 years. Betty enjoyed singing. She sang for many weddings and funerals, as well as for the Taylorville Municipal Band, and her own band where she met her husband. She also loved traveling, and visiting Green County where she grew up. Most of all, Betty enjoyed the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Harlan “Lanny” Moulton, MD; and sister, Jean Jones.

Betty is survived by her son, Harry A. (Barbara) Moulton of St. Genevieve, MO; daughter-in-law, Judy Moulton of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Harry W. (Anne), David, James, Jeff (Stephanie), Ken (Aimee), and Scott Moulton, and Melissa (Kevin) Ozment; 10 great grandchildren; half-sister, Jacque (Bruce) Hansen; one niece; and caregiver and dear friend, Susan Gensler.

Memorial Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Rev. Tom Bellagante officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Craig Summers, 48 of Jeisyville, IL passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 3:46 p.m. at his home in Jeisyville, IL. He was born on January 24, 1971 in Springfield, IL the son of Leland “Sugar” and Phyllis (Summers) Summers. He married Marilyn Davis on June 27, 1992 in Edinburg, IL. Craig worked as a gas plant manager for Waste Management in Taylorville and he loved to hunt, fish, golf and be with his family.

He is survived by his Wife: Marilyn Summers of Jeisyville, IL; Daughter: Sydney Summers of Jeisyville, IL; Brother: Ronald (Kathy) Summers of Jeisyville, IL; Half-Sisters: Lynda Sparling of Taylorville, IL; Half- brother: Keith Summers of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents.

Melvin W. Emerson, 84 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 9:07 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on March 13, 1935 in Edinburg, IL the son of Leo and Lucy (Mills) Emerson. He married Marjorie R. Swartzwelder on May 22, 1954 and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2013. Melvin worked at PPG from 1958-1966 and later he was an elevator mechanic with Otis Elevator. He was a member of the 40 Mile an Hour Club.

He is survived by his Sons: Randy (Sherry) Emerson of Mahomet, IL; Ronald (Sharon) Emerson of Memphis, TN; Richard (Laurie) Emerson of Olathe, KS; Daughter: Susan (Tim) Nation of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Jon, Seth, Greg and Jordan Emerson; Jessica McCullough, Sam Nation; Great-Grandchildren: Lily, Zane and Zoe Emerson and Jamey Slade; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife, and his brothers and sisters.

Beverly A. Eyman, 80, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, in Carlinville, IL.

Beverly was born August 29, 1938 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Charles J. and Lillian Elizabeth (Durbin) Windell. She married Albert L. Eyman on November 24, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2018.

Beverly worked as the Secretary for the Superintendent, as well as the bookkeeper, of Morrisonville Schools for 17 years. She then worked for Franklin Life Insurance until her retirement. Beverly was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, serving on the Church Board, as well as the Audit Committee, and Church Ladies. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekahs, and was a past treasurer for the American Business Women’s Association. Beverly enjoyed reading and traveling, but most of all she cherished her family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Charles “Sonny” Windell.

Beverly is survived by her children, John Albert Eyman of Springfield, IL, Joyce (Rafael) Rodriguez of Danvers, IL, and Jean Schaeffer of Port Saint Lucy, FL; granddaughters, Sheila Schaeffer of Okeechobee, FL, Mandi (Ronnie) Eckenwiler of Okeechobee, FL, Sally (Eric) Tavender of Springfield, IL, and Laura (Jeff) Neher of Hemby Bridge, NC; 6 great grandchildren; brother, John R. Windell of Concord, IL; sister, Irene Rickman of Taylorville, IL; sisters-in-law, Irene Kent of Taylorville, IL and Mary (John) Harper of Assumption, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 11:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546, with Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating.

Michael F. Lunik “Captain Stubby”, 80 of Morrisonville passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 12:23 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on August 13, 1938 in Morrisonville, IL the son of Michal J. and Minnie (Groh) Lunik. He married Mildred Beard on September 12, 1959 in Stonington, IL and they were later divorced. Mike worked as a truck driver/farmer and he loved gardening, playing bingo and cards at the Stonington American Legion.

He is survived by his Children: Michelle Reed of Taylorville, IL; Mark Allan Lunik (Lisa Costello) of Rochester, IL; Melinda (Kevin) Houk of Edinburg, IL; Companion: Rose Morrissey of Morrisonville, IL; Grandchildren: Timothy Lee Lunik of Augusta, GA; Ashley Kay Houk of Edinburg, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Anna Marie Lunik.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL with Rev. Russell Beard officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee, IL.
