Terry Lyn Hand

 

Terry Lyn Hand, 55 of Fillmore passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 6:20 p.m. at her residence in Fillmore. She was born on July 19, 1962 in Middletown, Ohio the Daughter of Dailey and Shirley (Tabor) Gross. She married Dennis Hand on September 8, 1990 in St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. Terry was a twenty-year employee of St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, and very active in the St. Louis Catholic School in Nokomis.

Surviving are her Husband: Dennis of Fillmore, IL; Daughters: Ida Hand, Taylor Hand, Devon Hand, Kali Hand, and Emma Hand all of Fillmore, IL; Mother: Shirley Hand of Pana, IL, Granddaughter: Kinley Hand of Fillmore, IL; Brothers: Doug (Bing) Gross of Troy, IL, Randy(Angie) Gross of Nokomis, IL; Sister: Lisa Kiefer of Nokomis, IL; Many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Father Dailey Gross.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL with Father Albert Allen Officiating. Burial will be held in Woodside Cemetery in rural Fillmore, IL.

Jerry Lee Smith

Jerry Lee Smith, 76 of Stonington, passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital E.R. He was born on April 17, 1941 in Taylorville, the son of Earl Thadeus and Melba (Brown) Smith. He married Martha Jarvis on February 17, 1973 in Leesville, Louisiana. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a mechanic. He proudly completed two tours of duty in both Vietnam and Germany. After retiring from the Army, Jerry worked many years as a grain handler for the Stonington Coop. Jerry loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He spent many months each year at his lake lot and also loved camping at Beaver Dam so he could be close to his grandsons. Jerry was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR and enjoyed bowling. He was a skilled handyman and enjoyed working on cars and other projects around the house. Most of all he cherished the time spent with his family.

 

He is survived by his wife: Martha J Smith of Stonington; sons: Jason B. Smith of Stonington and Jeffrey M. Smith (Sarah) of Carlinville; grandchildren: Isobel Smith of Cayuga, Indiana and Sawyer and Augie Smith both of Carlinville; brother: Ronald N. Smith (Nancy) of Greenville; and nephew: Aaron Smith (Brook) of Longmont, Colorado. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather: Charles I Durbin, and son: Joshua C. Smith.

Jerry will be cremated and inurned along with his son, Joshua, at the Old Stonington Cemetery. A graveside service for Jerry and Joshua will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017 in the cemetery with Rev. William Mitchell and Rev. Larry Mason officiating along with military honors. Loretta Ann Luttrell

 

Loretta Ann Luttrell, 81 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 8:15 p.m. at Hickory Estates in Taylorville. She was born on January 24, 1936 in Stonington, IL the Daughter of Lloyd and Pearl (Pyle) Luttrell. Loretta graduated from Taylorville High school and Business College in Omaha, NE. She worked at the Social Security office in Springfield until her retirement.

Surviving are her by Sisters: Darlene Collebrusco of Taylorville, IL; Nancy Andrews of Taylorville, IL; Joyce Woods of Taylorville, IL; Aunt: Betty Meikle of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents and her Friend Jonne Welton.

Loretta’s wishes were to be cremated and there will be a private graveside service at a later date with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Tommy Ray Smith

 

 

Tommy Ray Smith, 40, of Girard, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Nokomis, IL surrounded by his loving family.

 

Tommy was born December 6, 1976 in Fillmore, IL, the son of Dick and Janet Marie (Smith) Jones.

 

Tommy worked for local farmers and roofing contractors. He was hardworking and funny, and enjoyed working on cars, especially Chevy’s.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother; grandmother, Dorothy Smith; and grandpa, Oliver Smith.

 

Tommy is survived by his sons, Cody R. (fiancée, Jessie Greenwalt) Smith of Girard, Hunter A. Smith of Auburn, and Kayden Bess of Morrisonville; the love of his life, Tonya Boggs of Auburn; father, Dick Jones of Nokomis; siblings, Dicky (fiancée, Sara Mose) of Rosamond, Jessica Jones of Nokomis, Greg Jones of Nokomis, Josh (wife, Heather) Jones of Taylorville, Matt (fiancée, Elizabeth Blake) of Kincaid, and Lisa Harker of Taylorville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546.

 

Cremation will follow the visitation.

Ida Margaret Bateson

Ida Margaret Bateson, 91, of Taylorville passed away at 7:15a.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in her home. She was born on November 19, 1925 in Coello, Illinois, the daughter of William B. and Linda (Marcari) Rogers. She married Wilfred Bateson on July 15, 1944 in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2002. Margaret was a skilled seamstress and previously worked at Rothley’s Dress Factory in Kincaid and Lee’s in Taylorville. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, loved to cook, and enjoyed many summers camping and boating at the family lake lot.

She is survived by her son-in-law: Robert Givens of Taylorville; granddaughter: Alexis Givens, husband Ken McCallon, of Springfield; sisters: Mary Ann Buschon (William) of Taylorville and Wilda Tresso (Frank) of West Frankfort; step great granddaughters: Alena McCallon and Elizabeth McCallon; step great-great granddaughter: Penelope McCallon all of Kirkwood, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter: Cynthia Givens.

Funeral service for Mrs. Bateson will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz and Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be from 10 until 11a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Gene Elliot Bouvet

Gene Elliott Bouvet, 84, of Tovey passed away at 7:15a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on July 28, 1932, the son of Desire and Minnie (McComb) Bouvet. On April 30, 1949, he married Phyllis Ray in Morganfield, Kentucky. Gene retired from Peabody Coal Mine #10 and 8 after 44 years of service. After retiring, Gene and Phyllis spend many winters in Texas. He was a member of the Midland United Methodist Church. Gene was known as “Garage Sale Junkie”. He always enjoyed checking out sales, visiting with friends, and came home with countless clocks, lawn mowers, vacuums, and other treasures.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Phyllis Bouvet; daughters: Christina Pezze (Tony) of Chatham, Phyllis Harter (David) of Tovey, and Joyce Baird of Tovey; sons: Gene Bouvet (Karen) of Jacksonville and Don (Kathy) Bouvet of Stonington; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, and granddaughter: Stacey Groves.

Mr. Bouvet will be cremated and a graveside service will take place at 10:00a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Bethany Cemetery in rural Edinburg with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Floyd Durbin

 

Floyd Eugene Durbin Sr., 87, of Taylorville passed away at 7:47p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 16, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Melvin and Agnes Durbin. He married Dorothy Marie Johnson on May 6, 1946 in Taylorville. Floyd retired from Circle Steele after 35 years and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He had a love for country music and enjoyed playing his guitar. Floyd enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was a skilled repairman of small engines. Most of all he cherished the time spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy; children: Donald Durbin (Ella) of Clarkston, Michigan, Melvin Durbin (Diana) of Nokomis, Gene Durbin (Sandy) of Jefferson City, Oregon, Sherry Stewart of Taylorville, Deanna Vota (Martin) of Taylorville, and Steve Durbin (Nikki) of Taylorville; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Irma Durbin of Biloxi, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 12 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Durbin will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 13 in the funeral home. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Anita Jean Bass

Anita Jean Bass, 62 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 4:50 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was born on December 5, 1954 in Rantoul, IL the Daughter of Richard E. and Lillian L. (McGehee) McKinnon. She married Glenn Bass on March 29, 1985 in Taylorville, IL. She was self-employed for G&AB Opportunities.

Surviving are her Husband: Glenn Bass of Taylorville, IL; Son: Matthew S. Mathon of Decatur, IL; Daughter: Ammie M. Mathon-Chizek of Eldridge, IA; Grandchildren: Andrew, Aidan, Alec and Asher Chizek; Delanee, Alison and Chloe Mathon; Father: Richard McKinnon of Molalla, OR; Sister: Sharon McKinnon-Karasti; Brothers: Scott and Michael Phares; Bradley McKinnon; Step-son: Shane Bass of Mattoon, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Mother Lillian McGehee- Ethridge.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. The Memorial service will follow the visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Roberta M. Hobbs

Roberta M. Hobbs, 85, of Taylorville, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at her residence.

Roberta was born on April 24, 1932 in Springfield the daughter of Harvey Alva and Edith Roberta Pourchot Womack.

Roberta began working in the cafeteria for the schools in Edinburg before going on to work at the Taylorville Correction Center where she retired.

She is survived four sons, Stephen (Sheila) Hobbs of Edinburg, Mark (Sandy) Hobbs of Warrensburg, MO, David (Jan) Hobbs and Tim (Gayle) Hobbs both of Casa Grande, AZ; eight grandchildren, Sara (Tony) Ellinger, Jared (Krista) Hobbs, Jackie (Charly) Crawford, JoEllen (Kurt) Champley, Shane (Brittney) Hobbs, Amy (Gregory) Verbiski, Denee (Brian) Kramer and Ty (Nikki) Hobbs; five step grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; twelve step great-grandchildren; one brother, Rolla Womack; one sister, Marilyn Scott; one brother-in-law, Hewsey Copelin; three sisters-in-law, Delores Hobbs, Marilyn and Virginia Womack; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Edinburg.  Burial will follow at Edinburg Cemetery.

Bill Charles Nelson

Bill Charles Nelson, 78 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 9:12 a.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born on May 17, 1939 in Tallahoma, TN the Son of James M. and Martha E. (Choate) Nelson. He married Sonja Sutton on June 23, 1961 in Assumption, IL. Bill worked as a coal miner at Peabody Mine #10.

Surviving are his Wife: Sonja Nelson of Taylorville, IL; Son: William Douglas Nelson of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Renata Rimkus of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Jeremiah and Trisha Rimkus; Elizabeth, Becky and Michael Nelson; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents and siblings.

It was Bill’s wishes to be cremated and there will be no services.

Mary Ann Milslagle

Mary Ann Milslagle, 91 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 10:38 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on February 17, 1926 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of Willard and Jeannette (Thrash) Hall. She married Bill Milslagle on March 7, 1946 in Decatur, IL. Mary worked as a homemaker and she was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her Daughters: Jacque Vitali of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Janet Milslagle of Taylorville, IL; Molly (Richard) Drennan of Chicago, IL; Mindy Milslagle of Lexington, KY; Grandchildren: Mark Milslagle, Jenny Walker, Cara Drennan and Nicole Drennan; Great-Grandchildren: Nikki Milslagle, Connor Milslagle, Cameron Bieri; Brother: Jim Hall of Glen Ellyn, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband and Son Gary Milslagle.

There will be a private family graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Lori Bedinger

Lori Bedinger, 53 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at 8:15 p.m. at her residence in Taylorville. She was born on June 13, 1966 in Vandalia, IL the Daughter of Wayne Hathaway and Phyllis Marshall. She married Tim Bedinger on April 17, 1982 in Taylorville, IL.

Those who knew Lori described her as an artistic person with an infectious smile, selfless attitude, playful demeanor, and a strong sense of faith, family and friends. Her word for the year was kindness and that word describes Lori’s true essence. She shared her love of flowers, nature, and music with all those she loved dearly. She believed music could heal the world. In her photography, she shared her view of the world. In her Facebook posts, she shared the enormous love she had for her grandchildren. People all across the country looked forward to reading her daily words of wisdom and wit. Her passion was showing love to others and you always left feeling better and blessed for knowing her. Lori, Mrs. Bee, Mrs. Fun, Ella Bee, G Naw Naw was known as the “coolest person ever” to all who knew her. “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” -Amelia Earhart

Michael D. Sheedy

Michael D. Sheedy, 76, of Palmer, IL passed away at 11:18 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

 

Michael was born May 20, 1941 in Palmer, IL, the son of Dennis and Halene (Nave) Sheedy. He married Helen Dobyns on September 1, 1983 in Taylorville, IL.

 

Michael graduated from Morrisonville High School, and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. He then worked as a Christian County Deputy Sheriff for many years, as well as operating Sheedy’s Colonial Forge as a blacksmith. Michael was a member of St. Maurice’s Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and a member of the American Legion Post 721 in Morrisonville. He enjoyed his work as a gunsmith, rendezvous reenactments, vegetable gardening, and he was known for his excellent storytelling.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Sheedy; and infant sister, Patricia Sheedy.

 

Michael is survived by his wife, Helen Sheedy of Palmer; daughters, Megan (husband, Josh) Bailey of Palmer, and Angela (husband, Jeff) Graham of Stonington; grandchildren, Destiny, Devlin, Kera, Dyllan, Naudia, Annjela, Willow, and Jeffrey; brother, William (wife, Nancy) Sheedy of Morrisonville; sister-in-law, Mick Sheedy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2017 at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL, with Deacon Patrick O’Toole officiant. Military honors will be provided.
