Patricia A. Price

Patricia A. Price, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family. Pat was born Dec 26,1934 to Charles and Mae (Cox) Stewart in Taylorville, IL. She grew up and graduated from Taylorville High School. She had 4 children and was a member of the Free Methodist Church for many years. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir director, and youth director. 

In 1978, Pat moved to Colorado Springs, Co where she was a distributor for the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post until she retired. Pat was an avid reader, loved hiking, horseback riding, and Colorado Rockies baseball. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and always had kids at her house. 

Pat is survived by her children, Diana Carlen, Bill (Candy) Johnson, Gary (Gerry) Johnson, and Robin (John) Phillips.  She had 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, and 2 brothers. 

A visitation will be held on June 2, 2023 from 10:30 -11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Inurnment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Anita Marie 'Nide' Grundy

Anita Marie “Nide” Grundy, 90, of Morrisonville, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Nide was born September 18, 1932, in Hewittville, the daughter of William and Margaret (Young) Scott.  She married her one true love, John Robert “Bob” Grundy on January 28, 1953.  He preceded her in death on March 3, 2002.

Nide was a farmwife who had to adapt quickly to farming and caring for livestock after marrying. She was also an excellent homemaker, making delicious cakes and ensuring her flowers, especially her roses, were cared for.  Nide was, most importantly, an amazing grandmother and a “fill-in” grandma to several. She spent many days caring for her grandkids, who have several wonderful memories with her.  She was a proud member of St. Maurice Catholic Church and the National Catholic Society of Foresters, as well as a St. Louis Cardinals fan.  Nide will be remembered for her fiery spirit and kindness.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Catherine Bailey, Bernard Scott, and Shirley Conaway.

Nide is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann (Bill) O’Connell of Morrisonville; son, Bobby (Penny) Grundy of Morrisonville; grandchildren, Jon (Shannon) O’Connell, Blaine (Ashlyn) O’Connell, Justin O’Connell, Cassie O’Connell, Matthew (Heidi) Grundy, Jamie (Craig) Moore, and Lindsay Grundy; great grandchildren, Cash, Brady, Charlotte, Olivia, Brock, Teagan, Harper, Ross, Avery, Mia, Mabel, and Nolan; brothers, Donald Scott and Leon (Beverly) Scott, both of Taylorville, and Russell (Nancy) Scott of California; sister, Mary Lou Clayton of Mt. Auburn; sisters-in-law, Helen “Shorty” Healy and Mary “Mae” (Walt) Hilby of Springfield, Ruth “Tip” (Bob) Matli of Harvel, Alice “Pudge” (Kirk) Downey and Rose (Bob) Gowin, both of Morrisonville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her very much.

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 706 SE 4th Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546, with Rev. Florent Kanga officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Evelyn E. Jackson

Evelyn E. Jackson, 98 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 5:45 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on August 23, 1924, in Edinburg, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Jessie (Pierce) Rentfrow. She married Winford Jackson on January 13, 1958, in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on September 3, 1994.

She is survived by her son: Ronald Jackson of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren: Dennis (Bobbi) Swaney of Texarkana, TX; Ronda (Barry) Settles of Pensacola, FL; Dawn Brewer of Pleasant Garden, NC; Stacy (Bill) Davis of Kincaid, IL; Kevin (Nicole) Jackson of Oak Dale, MN; Daughter-in-Law: Ellen Jackson of Pleasant Garden, NC; Special friends: Jane, Walt and Walter Harwell; nephews: Bob Rentfrow and Tom DeClerck; niece: Janet DeClerck; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons: Terry Eppers, Dennis Jackson; sister: Dolores DeClerck; brother-in-Law: Charles DeClerck and brother: Roy Renfrow.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Ponting Cemetery in Stonington, IL with Pastor Dean Rose officiating.

Dale Copenbarger

Dale Copenbarger, 83 of rural Mt. Auburn passed into the arms of the Lord at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in his home. He was born on January 9, 1940, to Robert and Temperance Copenbarger at their farm. He married his high school sweetheart Erma Harter on March 23, 1960, and they enjoyed 63 years and 2 months together. They had two children, Dale and Robin. He was a lifelong member of Berea Christian Church where he taught Sunday School, was the assistant superintendent, deacon and at the end was an elder of the church. Dale was a sponsor for the CYF for many years taking them on trips and campouts. He worked for Dekalb Seed for several years and then began farming. He served in the United States Army for 6 years. He was always good at lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his wife: Erma Copenbarger of Rural Mt. Auburn, IL; son: Dale Copenbarger; daughter: Robin (Jerry) Casteel; granddaughter: Keri (James) Kemp; brother: Marvin (Shirley) Copenbarger and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.  

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Berea Cemetery in rural Mt. Auburn with Pastor Mike Smith officiating and Military graveside honors.

Memorials may be made to Berea Christian Church or to the donor’s choice. The family asks that everyone wear casual clothing to the service.

Loretta Kay Dyson

Loretta Dyson, 80, of Palmer, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2023, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Loretta was born May 5, 1943, in Taylorville, the daughter of Thomas Arthur and Helen S. (Friedrich) Dyson.  She graduated from Morrisonville High School with the Class of 1961 and went on to work for many years for Pepsi as a secretary.

Loretta was an amazing daughter.  Upon the death of her father, she gave up her career to take care of her mother.  They did everything together, and especially loved traveling. Loretta was a lifelong member of the Advent Christian Church in Palmer until its closure.  She was an outdoorswoman.  Loretta loved camping, fishing, and was an avid cat lover too.

She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Lisa Ann Dunkirk; and brother-in-law, Bob Bethard.

Loretta is survived by her sisters, Sharron Bethard of Palmer, and Garnetta (husband, Charles) Shanks of Taylorville; nephew, Randy (wife, Diana) Shanks of Springfield; niece, Regina (husband, Larry) Wilderman of Taylorville; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Morrisonville Cemetery, with Rev. George Elder officiating.

William "Bill" E. Southard

William “Bill” E. Southard, 89, of Butler, formerly of Taylorville, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at his residence.

Bill was born April 29, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Carl Herbert and Mary Louise (Weitekamp) Southard.  He graduated from Pleasant Plains High School with the Class of 1955 and was drafted into the United States Army.  Bill proudly served our country with the 82nd Airborne Division.  He owned and operated Southard Tree Service for decades, servicing Taylorville and the surrounding areas.  Bill was a former member of the Church of God in Kincaid.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Patricia; daughters, Charlene and Catherine; and brothers, Clarence “Buster”, George, and Bob Southard.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Carolyn L. (Lynn) Goebel of Rochester, and Cindy Southard of Des Moines, IA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; siblings, Ben Southard of Springfield, John “Bing” (Linda) Southard of Springfield, and Bunny (Jim Haley) Southard of Big Pine Key, FL; sister-in-law, Karen Southard of Galesburg; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his faithful companion, Little Joe the Chihuahua.

Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Rd, Springfield, IL 62707, with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.

Isaac "Ike" H. Hedden

Isaac “Ike” H. Hedden Jr., 92 of Edinburg, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, 6:00 a.m. at Rochester Estates, Rochester, Illinois. He was born on August 9, 1930 in Edinburg,  Illinois, the son of Isaac and Theda (Pearson) Hedden. He married Nettie Joyce Thomas on January 21, 1950 in Taylorville. She passed away on June 13, 2013 having celebrated 63 years of marriage. He was a retired farmer, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church near Sharpsburg for many years.

He is survived by two children: daughter, Melinda J. “Mindy” Harrington (Pete) of Desert Edge, California and Decatur, IL and son, Thomas R. Hedden (Kathy) of rural Edinburg, Illinois, eight grandchildren: Robyn Lloyd (Ken), Adam Harrington (Stephanie), Nathan Hedden (Lindsay), Benjamin Hedden (Jill), Abbey Corso (Wyatt Hohenstein), Kelly Hedden-Saulsberry (Mike), Colleen Gennicks (Kyle) and Nicholas Hedden (Danielle), and eighteen great-grandchildren: Hope Nash (Wes), Paige Lloyd, Olivia Hedden, Gracie, Mylie, and Isaac Corso, Lucy Hedden, Fiona and Eleanor Saulsberry, Brant, Caroline, and Emery Hedden, Seth, Luke, Jude, and Anna Gennicks, Addilyn and Josie Hedden. Ike is also survived by his sister-in-laws, JoAnn Biek (Paul) of City by the Sea, Texas and Sandra Sue Mason (Bud, now deceased) of Palm Springs, California, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife and parents.

A visitation is planned for Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 10:00-12:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church near Sharpsburg. All are invited to attend. The memorial service will follow immediately at 12:00 p.m. and a luncheon will be served in the church basement for immediate family and friends.

Donald R. Kailing

Donald R. Kailing, 88 of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 3:31 p.m. on May 17, 2023 at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on February 14, 1935 in Connellsville, PA to the late James Kailing and Mabel (Stewart) Kailing. He married Shirley A. Buckner on June 13, 1980 in Springfield, IL and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2013.

Donald was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a self-employed painter. He will be remembered for his loving nature towards animals and his love and passion for cars.

He is survived by his daughter: Patricia (Gustavo) Calvo of Bastrop, TX; grandchildren: Ishmael Jones; Christy (Chris) Whitson; great-grandchildren: Trinity Whitson; Shawn Whitson; sister: Sue Franklin of Sposovania, VA; and his nephew: Bruce Secord of Taylorville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Mabel Kailing; his wife: Shirley Kailing; son: John Kailing; and his grandson: Jimmy John Jones.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with Pastor Russ Burch officiating.

Beulah G. Blakley

Beulah G Blakley (née Staufenbiel), known affectionately as "Mom, Grandma, Mimi, and Great Grandma", passed away on May 15, 2023 at her home in Taylorville after a long and fulfilling life.

Beulah was born on July 16, 1923 at home on the farm in Hecker, IL to Roland and Hilda (Weidemann) Staufenbiel. She married her sweetheart, Charles Donald “Don” Blakley in 1944 in Norfolk, VA. Early on, she worked as a switch board operator in the 1940’s, then spent time at home to raise her family. Later, she returned to work in ICTC's business office for another 25 years before retiring in 1983. She soon began a second career as bailiff at the Christian County Courthouse, where she served with respect and honor for nearly 18 years. Her friendly demeanor earned her the nickname "white-haired lady with blue eyes and a smile" among her coworkers. Beulah was a kind and selfless woman who was well liked by everyone who knew her. She loved spending time with her family and was the most loving grandmother. Always with a smile on her face, she was elegant with a great sense of style. Her artistic and creative side shined through in her sewing, crocheting, quilt making, and baking. She was a talented seamstress, often making beautiful clothes for her family. She will be dearly missed.

Beulah is survived by her son David C. Blakley of Taylorville, IL; daughter Jean C. Davidson of Mattoon, IL; daughter Lois A. Ryan (Terry) of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren Andrea Bryan (Dan) of Webster Groves, MO; Darcy Hammitt (Bob) of Sherman, IL; Jim Davidson (Whitney) of Canton, IL; Aimee Bates (T.J.) of Taylorville, IL; Thad Ryan (Kayla) of McCordsville, IN; great grandchildren Mason, Ryan, and Ella Bates, Max Tavine, Penelope and Sophia Davidson, Nash Ryan and soon-to-arrive baby brother; step great grandchildren Destiny, Jordyn, and Zoey Hammitt; and her brother: John Staufenbiel of St. Peters, MO. Beulah was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Don Blakley; her parents Roland and Hilda Staufenbiel; brother Fred Staufenbiel (Eileen); sisters Anita Oakes (Jim); Ethel Hammel (Les); Aurelia Hogg (Jerry); Pearl Powderly (Al); sisters-in-law Darlene Staufenbiel; Marie Flemming; and brother-in-law Everett Blakley.

Family and friends of Beulah are invited to join in a visitation and funeral service in her honor. The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL. A funeral mass will begin at 11:00 am with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Rosamond Grove Cemetery in Rosamond, IL.

Melony Harper Wharton-Dorton

Melony Harper Wharton-Dorton, 46 of Taylorville, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 in her home.  She was born on February 22, 1977 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Versal Wharton and Kathleen Harper-Wharton.  She worked for Computer Programing and Systems in medical coding.  Melony will be remembered as a very independent, social person who had many friends.  She loved to laugh and make those around her laugh also.  She enjoyed being on the water as much as she could and enjoyed attending concerts.  Melony was a dog lover, especially her dachshund, Oscar Mayer. 

She is survived by her son: Tyler Dorton and daughter: Mia Dorton both of Taylorville; mother: Kathy Richards (Ray) of Taylorville; aunt: Marilyn Sturek (Christopher) of Bailey, Colorado; cousins: Mirka Sturek and Braden Sturek; previous husband: Timothy Daniel Dorton of Bono, Arkansas; and special friends: Mary Tolle, Abigail Merker, and Linda Deweese. She was preceded in death by her father: Versal Wharton; and grandparents: Owen Harper, JoAnn Harper, Zell Wharton, and Lila Wharton.

John Marshal Nolen

John Marshal Nolen, 95 of Stonington, IL, passed away at 9:03 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at his residence. He was born on December 1, 1927 in Pleasant View Township, Macon County to John Riley Nolen and Willie Mae Livingston. He married Mandy Catherine Sims on July 17, 1949 in Stonington, IL and she preceded him in death on February 11, 2003.

John started and owned Nolen Building Supplies from 1959 until his retirement in 1983, when Jeff took over. Jeff renamed the business Nolen Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning and is still operating today. His grandson, Daniel and son, Jeff, have also started Nolen Services, a septic pumping and restroom rental business. John loved to hear about the success of the business he started and was very proud of the three generations in business. He was an active member of the Stonington American Legion, the Stonington Masonic Lodge, and he was a volunteer fireman for the Stonington Fire Department. John enjoyed visiting with people, gardening, woodworking, and bird watching.

He is survived by his sons: Jeff (Terri) Nolen of Stonington, IL; Steven (Patti) Nolen of Dundee, IL; grandchildren: Daniel (Brooke) Nolen of Moweaqua, IL; Kaitlyn (Rolando) Salazar of Stonington, IL; Michael Hoeksema of Brooklyn, NY; Matthew and Zach Nolen of Dundee, IL; great-grandchildren: Elijah and Wyatt Nolen; and Noah and Penelope Norris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son in infancy: John Michael Nolen, daughter: Susan Nolen-Hoeksema, brothers: Carl and Ken Nolen, and granddaughter: Elizabeth Jean Nolen.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 10:00-12:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Masonic rites will begin at 12:00 p.m. and a funeral service will begin shortly after with Pastor Daniel Nolen officiating. Interment will follow at Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, IL.

Danny E. "Dan" Garren

Danny Edward “Dan” Garren, 77 of Taylorville, passed away at 2:10p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born on August 22, 1945 in Decatur, the son of Elmer and Mary Irene (Stark) Garren.  He married Mildred I. Fishburn on August 31, 1979 in Taylorville.  Dan owned and operated CYDE Enterprises in Taylorville for over 40 years, and for over 20 years served as a roofing consultant throughout the U.S. for Coca-Cola Enterprises.  He was a member of Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M. in Taylorville, Ansar Shrine, and Royal Order of Jesters, Court 20 in Springfield.  Dan loved to golf and spend time boating, especially at Lake of the Ozarks.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends over a cup of coffee in the morning or a cold beer on Tuesday nights with his buddies.  More than anything, Dan loved his family, and in the words of one of his favorite singers, Frank Sinatra, Dan’s life can be summed up by saying, “I did it my way”.

He is survived by his wife: Millie Garren of Taylorville; children: Duane Garren of Taylorville, Seth Garren (Emilie) of Taylorville, and Nick Garren (Shanda) of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren: Jessica Hogge, Olivia Garren, and Ava Garren; great granddaughter: Anna Hogge; and siblings: Jeanie Pruett of Summerville, and Randy Garren (Pat) of Taylorville.  He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter: Breanna Hogge; and brothers: Ricky Garren and Norman Garren.

Shirley Rae Sloan

Shirley Rae Sloan, 82 of Edinburg, IL, passed away at 3:46 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on August 27, 1940 in Rochester, IL, to the late Leslie A. Fountain and Norma Y. Younker. She married Robert J. Sloan on January 6, 1960 and he survives. Shirley graduated high school and attended Browns Business College. She was a homemaker and loved to cook and sew in her free time.

She is survived by her husband: Robert J. Sloan of Edinburg, IL; children: Tamara (William) Lebshier of Edinburg, IL; Sheri (Robert) Morgan of Taylorville, IL; Rhonda (Vernon) Clark of Edinburg, IL; grandchildren: Nichole (Tom) Stewart of Maryville, IL; Kelsey (Jarrett) VanDorn of Edinburg, IL; Amber (Bryce) Mclean of Taylorville, IL; Ethan Morgan of Taylorville, IL; Laci Clark of Edinburg, IL; four great-grandchildren and one on the way in July; siblings: Elaine (Russ) Kruse of Yakima, WA; Richard (Eva) Fountain of Granger, IN; Gayla (Terry) Wingo of Mt. Auburn, IL; Sharon (John) Ridgeway of Edinburg, IL; sister-in-law: Cindy Fountain of Edinburg, IL; and brother-in-law: Bill Sloan of Taylorville, IL.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Leslie A. Fountain and Norma Y. Younker; and her brother: Larry Fountain.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A memorial service will be held the following day on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home with Pastor Dan Spruell officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

Michael “Mike” Thomas McChristy, 57 of Mt. Zion, IL, passed away at 9:36 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL. He was born on March 23, 1966 in Taylorville, IL to Bill McChristy and Mary Lou McChristy. Mike married Lori Stanley on October 8, 1988 in Stonington, IL and she survives.

Mike worked at UPS as a feeder driver for many years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Stonington as well as the Stonington Masonic Lodge #1066 AF & AM, Ansar Shrine, and Ansar Ag Corps. In his free time, he loved racing with his kids and spending time with his granddaughters. His family meant the world to him.

He is survived by his wife: Lori McChristy; children: Meagan (Luke) Wright of Springfield, IL; Joe (Amber) McChristy of Shelbyville, IL; Ben (Dakota) McChristy of Macon, IL; grandchildren: Nova Wright; Paislee McChristy; Payton Powers; Aubri McChristy; mother: Mary Lou McChristy of Stonington, IL; brother: Frank (Mary) McChristy of Stonington, IL; father-in-law: Dale Stanley of Stonington, IL; brother-in-law: Don (Tracy) Stanley of Stover, MO; sister-in-law: Pam (Pat) Hancock of Langleyville, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his father: Bill McChristy; mother-in-law: Leota Stanley; and his grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 10:00-1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Stonington, IL. A funeral service will begin 1:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites starting at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Scott Parks will be officiating. Interment will follow at Old Stonington Cemetery.

Nettie Geraldine Gibbs

Nettie Geraldine Gibbs, 85 of Taylorville, IL went to be with her Lord at 10:09 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at her home in Taylorville, surrounded by her family.

Geraldine was born on August 19, 1937 in Pelham, TN, to the late Morris Hill and Leora Layne. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, and one granddaughter, Stephanie McGee. She was married to Edwin R. Gibbs of Taylorville. Geraldine is survived by her five children: Judith Hill of Taylorville, IL; Janice Ramirez (Peter) of Garden City, KS; a son, Chris Gibbs of Hayes, VA; Laurie Reische (Nathan) of Rochester, IL; Maria Gibbs of Taylorville, IL; as well as twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Geraldine was a gospel singer and played both the piano and guitar. She liked to make trips to Tennessee and spend time with her mother and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville, IL with Pastor Dennis Metsker officiating. Memorials in her honor may be made to March of Dimes.

Michael J. "Mick" Ryan

Michael J. “Mick” Ryan, 82 of Taylorville, passed away at 3:17p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 surrounded by his family in his home.  He was born on January 10, 1941 in Decatur, the son of Joseph Bernard and Ivah Cordelia (Cazelet) Ryan.  He married Nancy Sue Workman on January 8, 1966 in Taylorville, celebrating 57 years of marriage.  Mick graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield in 1959 where he competed in many sports, most notable baseball.  Mick served in the Illinois National Guard.  He had a long career as an insurance producer, and for many years was a co-owner of KMRM Insurance in Taylorville.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.  Mick enjoyed spending time outside working in the yard, especially mowing grass.  He enjoyed traveling, country music, and was an avid toy tractor collector.  More than anything, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife: Nancy Ryan of Taylorville; children: Ric Ryan, husband Ed Guedes, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Shannon Ryan-Davis, husband Rodney, of Taylorville; grandchildren: Toryn Ryan Davis-Winkler, husband Matthew, of Chicago, Griffin Ryan Davis and Clark Ryan Davis both of Taylorville; brothers: Rodger “Butch” Ryan, wife Cindy, and Terry Ryan, wife Lois, of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mick will be cremated and a private family memorial mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Fr. Hermine P. "Min" Williams

Hermine P. “Min” Williams, 89 of Taylorville, passed away at 11:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the Loft Rehab and Nursing Center in Normal, IL. She was born in Chicago on June 5, 1933.

A resident of Taylorville for over fifty years, Min is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Mandros (Mark) of Bloomington, IL; son, Kenny Williams (Kathie Huson) of Virden, IL; grandchildren, Staci Mandros, David Mandros, Kitty Jo Haywood, C.J. Williams, Billy Williams, Bobby Williams, and Bradley Williams; along with eight great-grandchildren, her sister, Barbara Norton of Memphis, TN, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her supportive and loving companion over the last twenty-five years, Jesse Simpson of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Williams and son, Tommy Williams.

Min was a long-time resident of Taylorville and managed the local Jubelt’s Bakery in Taylorville for years. In retirement she loved playing bingo with friends, reading, her cats, crossword puzzles, and traveling with Jesse. Thank you to the staff at The Loft for their loving care over the last few months.  Min will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evelyn Joyce Schneider

Evelyn Joyce Schneider, 94 of Nokomis passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 8:01 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on July 30, 1928 in Brownstown, IL the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Goldsborough) Darnell. She married Clarence George “Ted” Schneider on December 29, 1946 in the South Fork United Methodist Church in Nokomis and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2012. She worked many years as a Farm wife, tax preparer and she loved quilting.

She is survived by her daughters: Betty (Donnie) Meadows of Williamsburg, KY; Barb (Dave) Spears of Chatham, IL; grandchildren:  Tim (Kathleen) Schneider, Derek (Kristen) Meadows, Jason (Melissa) Spears, Jessi (Justin) Bishop, Andi (Nick) Forck and Casey (Heidi) Spears; great-grandchildren: Tim (Lori) Schneider, Michael (Danielle) Schneider, Nick Schneider, Gavin Brown, Kennedy Spears, Avery Spears, Ryane Forck, Luca Forck, Beckett Bishop, Parker Spears, Nolan Spears, Brant Bishop; great-great-grandchildren:  Roxanne, Matthew, Mark, Rowan, Hayden and Autumn; sisters: Iris Coleman of Springfield, MO, Janice Schafer of Pana, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Brothers: Donald, Lester and Sister: MaryAnn Cearlock.  

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with Pastor Bill Cox officiating. Burial will be held in Kettlekamp Cemetery in rural Nokomis.

Paul Neville

Paul Neville, 53, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on April 27, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Paul was born on July 21, 1969, in Springfield, IL, the son of Jimmy and Jessie (Miller) Neville. He married Ellie Bottoms, but later divorced.

 

Paul is survived by his children, Amanda (Darrell) Coghlan, Joseph Neville, and Jenny Neville. He was a proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by parents and one sister, Rebecca Neville.

Jean (McKinnie) Kraner Montgomery

Jean (McKinnie) Kraner Montgomery, 92, of Morrisonville, passed away at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Carriage Crossing Senior Living in Taylorville.

Jean was born January 1, 1931, in Morrisonville, the daughter of the late John Will and Mary Ethel (Jarrett) McKinnie.  She graduated from Morrisonville High School with the Class of 1948.  Jean married Edward F. Kraner on November 27, 1952, at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville.  They enjoyed nearly 38 years of marriage.  Eddie preceded her in death on April 3, 1990.  Jean then married Robert Ray Montgomery on October 2, 1993, at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville.  They enjoyed nearly 27 years of marriage.  Ray also preceded her in death on August 10, 2020.

Jean was a homemaker and completely devoted to her family and church.  She sold Avon for over 45 years, where she was a member of the President’s Club.  Jean also babysat for many local families and her own nieces and nephews.  She assisted her brothers for many years as secretary of McKinnie Bros. Trucking.  Jean was active in many groups and volunteer activities with the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, where she was a lifelong member.  Jean was also a longtime member of the American Legion Post #721 Auxiliary in Morrisonville.  She enjoyed dancing, and she and Eddie would attend many dances over the years.  Jean also loved traveling, and spending as much time as possible surrounded by her family.

She was also preceded in death by her son, John Steven Kraner; twin granddaughters, Sarah and Rachel Clevenger; brothers, Cecil, Harry “Red”, and Glenn “Spud” McKinnie; sisters, Pearl Lewis, and Marjorie Blount; and son-in-law, Dennis Oller.

Jean is survived by her children, Michael (Marsha) Kraner of Morrisonville, Judy (Jim) Carriker of Raymond, Cindy (George) Clevenger of Mt. Pulaski, and Shari Oller of Morrisonville; grandchildren, Ray (April) Kraner of Morrisonville, Joni (Nic) Fleigle of Morrisonville, Stephanie (Zach Wells) Dye of Taylorville, Bradley (Amber) Carriker of Standard City, Jessica (Ryan) Millburg of Farmersville, Ashley (Brad) Marshall of Georgetown, KY, Hannah (Tad) Blacketer of Mt. Pulaski, David (Amy) Clevenger of Waverly, Jonathan (Kim) Clevenger of Mahomet, Joshua (Natasha) Oller of Morrisonville, and Caleb (Mary Beth) Oller of Morrisonville; great grandchildren, Kyle, Alyssa, Molly, Emma, Jack, Hank, Will, Justis, Karley, Harlee, Lily, Leah, Amie, Cash, Henry, Asa, Amos, Matthew, Luke, Carter, Carley, Presley and Zoey; brother, Ray (Judy) McKinnie of Morrisonville; sister-in-law, Erma McKinnie of Morrisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 111 North Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546.  The funeral ceremony will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating.

Interment will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Barbara I. McKinnon

Barbara I. McKinnon, 90, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on May 4, 2023, in Taylorville, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Barb was born on November 6, 1932, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Albert Henry “Jack” and Elda Lorene “Boots” (Freshwater) Johnson. She married William Robert “Bill” France on June 29, 1950, in Lewistown, IL. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1986. Barb later married Robert McKinnon on April 1, 1989, in Taylorville.

 

Barb is survived by her husband, Robert; children, William France of Taylorville, Michael Jack (Janet C.S.) France of Waynesville, MO, Stephanie Diane (John) O’Bryan, Lisa Lorene Moses (Jim Jones) of Taylorville, Robert Geoffery France (John Madera) of Norwalk, CT; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Marsha (Paul) Martynowski of Taylorville, Donna Rae Miller of Edinburg, Robert James McKinnon of Riverton, daughter-in-law, Terri France,  son-in-law, Randy Swiney; eight step-grandchildren and twelve step great-grandchildren;  sister, Peggy Joyce White and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Barb is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William France; son, Forrest Randall France; daughter, Laura Elizabeth Swiney; one grandchild, three great-grandchildren, one brother, James “Bill” Johnson, and one sister, Jacquline Cobb.

 

For many years, Barb was employed with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to raising her seven children, she also worked at some of Taylorville’s favorite institutions over her years, including Frank’s IGA, Alma Plastics, Ray’s Place, and Harold Mansfield Oil Co. During the 90’s Barb and her husband, Bob, operated their own business, B&B concessions, traveling to many area celebrations and events. During the winters, Barb and Bob enjoyed spending winters in South Texas with family and friends.

 

A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.

 

Memorials in Barb’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or The National Kidney Foundation.

Richard Sherman Daniels

Richard Sherman Daniels, 70, of Taylorville, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at his residence.

Richard was born April 17, 1953, in Phoenix, IL, the son of Sherman and Beatrice “Bea” (Rosenberger) Daniels.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army, spending 32 months overseas during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, Richard studied coal mining technology.  He then worked for Borg Werner, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Doctor’s Hospital in Decatur, and Rosen’s.  Richard would retire from UAP Richter, where he was a truck driver for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and he loved fishing for catfish. Richard was a past member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; lifelong companion, Candace Leonard; daughter, Kimberly Daniels; brothers, Robert and John Daniels; and sister, Lily Daniels.

Richard is survived by his children, Kevin (wife, Tracy) Daniels of Mahomet, Beverly (husband, Max) Chitwood of Taylorville, Chris (wife, Maggie) Daniels of Chatham, Brittany (husband, Aaron) Samson of Taylorville, and Jesse (wife, Amber) Daniels of Taylorville; grandchildren, Jackson, Theo, Caleb, Kailey, Erietta, Isabella, Evelyn, Oliver, Ashley, Hannah, Kallie, Chelsea, Courtney, Alanna, Kylie, and Gage; several great grandchildren; great grandson, Lantz is on the way; siblings, Carol Brown of Champaign, and Janie Daniels of Pana; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.  The funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.  Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home at the conclusion of the funeral ceremony.

Jeanette Sheley

Jeanette Sheley, 61 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 6:15 a.m. at SSM St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born on July 17, 1961 in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of Jim Hughes and Mary Lou (McMurray) Gartshore. She married Randy Sheley on July 14, 1984 in the Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville. She worked as a 911 dispatcher for the Christian County Sheriff’s office for many years, but her favorite job was caring for those around her. Jeanette enjoyed (and was exceptional at) cooking and baking. She loved going to concerts with her loved ones and watching Hallmark movies in her spare time.

She is survived by her husband: Randy Sheley of Taylorville, IL; son: Kyle Sheley of Taylorville, IL, daughter: Kala (David) DeMuro of Springfield; Mothers: Mary Lou (Bob) Gartshore and Lucy Hughes (Jim); twin sister: Jeaneene Hughes of Springfield; brothers: Jeff (Donna) Hughes of Salinas, CA; Terry (Denise) Ruppe of Fulshear, TX; Rob (Debbie) Gartshore of Wheaton, IL; Mike (Valerie) Gartshore of Stonington, IL; brother-in-law: David Wells and Vickie Schulte of Tovey, IL; mother and father-in-law: Ron and Faye Sheley of Taylorville; brothers-in-law: Stan (Leslie) Sheley of Colorado Springs, CO and Ryan (Kris) Sheley of Taylorville, IL; lots of nieces and nephews and her two dogs Nina and Mia. David M. Stephens

David M Stephens, 70 of Taylorville, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital E.R.  He was born on February 20, 1953, in Taylorville, the son of Jack R and Julia Eloise (Sautelet) Stephens.  David was a retired coal miner, having worked for many years at the Freeman Crown II mine.  After retirement he worked for O’Reilly Auto Parts.  David loved nothing more than watching his grandsons play sports, especially baseball.  He was an avid race fan and enjoyed helping out the Verardi family with their team. 

He is survived by his daughters: Renee Grieme (Steve) of Taylorville and Kayla Inglese (Bobby) of Chicago; grandsons: Maxx and Jaxxen Grieme; sister: Yvonne Roberts of Taylorville; niece and nephew: Stephanie Funderburk and Chad Roberts; and great nieces: Carley and Tessa Funderburk.

James Edward Hancock

James Edward Hancock, 90 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:57 a.m. surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 26, 1932 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Albert J. and Velma F. (Miller) Hancock. He married Rita C. Oller on June 25, 1955 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. James was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the NALC. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years after serving in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife: Rita Hancock of Taylorville; children: James David (Sonja) Hancock; Jannis (Hal) Turvey; Douglas (Trisha) Hancock; Joni Hancock, Jill (Richard) Mahan all of Taylorville and Daniel (Shelly) Hancock of Washington, IL; grandchildren: Robert (Amanda) Hancock, Jeffrey (Bailey) Hancock, Chad (Amy) Hancock, Rachel (TJ) Forrest, Hannah (Shane) Ross, Nathaniel Turvey, Chelse (Michael) Broux, Sydney (Tyler) Walker and William Hancock; Great-grandchildren: Xavier, Quinn, Laila, Jace, Shane Jr, Gabriella, Thomas, Riya, Oliver, Ruby, Scarlet, Deklan and Sloane; sisters: Mary Ferguson and Sue (Dennis) Snyder. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville, IL with military graveside honors.
