Alyse Rae Davis of Taylorville

Alyse Rae Davis, 4 month old daughter of Coady Davis and Audrey Fixsal passed away at 3:25 p.m. on August 27, 2013 in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 23, 2013 in Springfield, IL. Alyse is survived by her parents, a brother, Benton Davis at home,  her maternal grandparents: Dan (Tammy) Fixsal of Morrisonville, Paternal grandparents: Rae Davis, Jr (companion Ann Cole) of Kincaid, IL, and Mike(Kimberly)Shores Corbett of Chatham, IL. Paternal great grandparents: Rae (Verna) Davis of Bulpitt, IL and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother: Patsy Shores, one uncle, paternal great grandparents and maternal great grandparents.  Her visitation will be on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 9:00-10:45a.m. in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with graveside services following at 11:00 in Morrisonville Cemetery in Morrisonville, IL. Rev. Chad Foster will be officiating with the burial to be in Morrisonville Cemetery.

Lawrence Eugene Ginger of Taylorville

Lawrence Eugene Ginger, 73, of Taylorville, IL died at 4:45 am Saturday, August 24, 2013 at his residence.

 

He was born January 21, 1940 in Taylorville, IL the son of Thomas C. and Josephine Agnes Simaly Ginger.  On March 18, 1961 he married Victoria Marie Busonic in Mattoon, IL.  Larry attended Eastern Illinois University and Lincolnland Community College. He was employed by Fiat Allis in Springfield for 28 years as a Product Engineer.  After that he went to work for Fiat-Geotech in Leece, Italy for 3 years.  After retiring from there he completed his working career working for 12 years at Bunn-O-Matic in Springfield in Research and Development as Manager of Drafting, retiring in 2002.  He was a huge fan St. Louis Cardinals and University of Illinois sports.  He was a member of the Illinois Amateur Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame being inducted in 2002.  Larry was instrumental in originating and developing the Sassatelli Blues Youth Fastpitch Softball Program in the 80’s.  Larry was most proud of his sons, Bob and Mike who were both major contributors to the USA Fastpitch Softball Teams competing in Fargo, ND, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Cuba.

 

Surviving are his wife, Victoria Marie Ginger of Taylorville, Sons: Robert A. Ginger and wife Rose Ann of Danvers, IL, and Michael J. Ginger and wife Kelly of Clinton, IL; Grandchildren: Scott R. Ginger and wife Kristie of Holly Ridge, NC, Tyler J. Ginger of Colorado Springs, CO, Corey J. Ginger and Haley R. Ginger both of Clinton, IL, and his aunt: Mary L. (Simaly) Hafliger of Taylorville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother John Ginger.

 

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Alan Hunter officiating.  There will be no visitation.

Corene Danko of Evansville, IN

Helen Corene Danko, 69, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Troy, IL and Taylorville, IL, died at 2:55 pm Friday, August 9, 2013 at VNA Hospice, Evansville, IN.

She was born October 3, 1943 in Taylorville, the daughter of Wayne and Helen Delores Wanach Smith. On November 29, 1963 she married John Robert Danko at the Methodist Church in Taylorville. Corene was a member of the United Methodist church in Newberg, IN and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville for over 30 years. She taught school at Castle Elementary School in Newberg, IN and also taught in Troy, IL and Taylorville, IL.

Surviving are her husband Bob Danko of Boonville, IN; Sons: Kirk Wayne Danko and wife Beth of Centerville, IA and Troy Adam Danko and wife Julie of Parker, TX. 4 Grandchildren: Logan Danko and Morgan Danko of Centerville, IA, and Justing Danko and Megan Danko of Parker, TX. Also surviving is her sister Joann Garner and husband Chuck of Taylorville, and a Sister-in-Law: Betty Smith of Huntsville, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother David Smith.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Brenda Kay Rever of St. Joseph, MO

Brenda Kay Rever, 56, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013 at 9:25 a.m. at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. She was born December 11, 1956 in Taylorville, IL. The Daughter of Charles E. and Wanda (Frost) Newberry. She married John Rever on March 15, 2002 in Taylorville, IL. She was a retired homemaker, avid Cub fan and loved her family and dog Gizmo.

David L. Shad Griffin of Taylorville

David L. “Shad” Griffin passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 10:55 p.m. He was born on August 9, 1951 to Kenneth and Bernadine V. (Durbin) Griffin. He married Angela (Grauer) Griffin on March 2, 1974 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Father Martin Mangen. Of this marriage, he was blessed with a daughter Ashly L. (Griffin) Smith. Later in life, he was blessed again with three grandchildren.

He has been retired since December 1, 2011 but formerly employed by Ken’s Refrigeration (Formerly owned family business) till 1985, Punzak Heat and Air Conditioning till 1997 as service technician for both companies. He then was employed by Gateway Foundation as a maintenance Supervisor until retirement in 2011 and was a graduate of Taylorville High school in the class of 1969.

His special interests were crappie fishing, being a campfire boy during hunting season, taking trips to the Illinois River with all of buddies, sitting in his “man cave” watching NASCAR every Sunday, cruzing in his Illini/Cardinal/Shriner golf cart. But most of all was his love for his grandchildren, daughter and other family. He was blessed with a loving daughter, a kind son-in-law, three great and active grandkids, “Special” sisters and brothers-in-law and many good buddies. He was a good man who had a kind soul and heart. He did not speak ill of others and ready to help whenever needed.

He served two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Italy. He received an honorable discharge in December 1972. He belonged to Veterans Memorial Home, Knights of Columbus #2120, Kincaid American Legion #905, Moose Lodge #1516, Christian County Shrine Club, Ansar Ag Corp, Ansar Shriner A.A.O.N.M.S, Mound Lodge #122, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #137 for 25 years, Christian County Sheriffs Reserve for 25 years and served on City of Taylorville Board of Appeals for 25 years. He is survived by his wife Angela Griffin of 39 years, daughter Ashly L. (Eddie) Smith, two grandsons, Griffin R. Smith, Greydon E. Smith and one granddaughter Gabrielle L. Smith. Sisters-in-law Roberta (Todd) Beaty, Carolyn “Kelly” (Ron) Prichett. Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Bernadine Griffin, Sister Sharon (Griffin) Goodall, Mother and father-in-law Robert G. and Margaret Grauer and one grandson Edward B. Smith IV.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 12, 2013 at Sutton Memorial Home with visitation being held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with funeral at 1:00 p.m. by Father Alan Hunter. Burial at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL with military graveside honors.

Lela May Coffey of Rochester

Lela May Coffey, 93, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 12:40 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. She was born May 16, 1920 in Greenfield, IL. The Daughter of Ora Elmer and Daisy (Bridget) Dawson. She married Gilbert Coffey on October 7, 1943 in Champaign, IL and he later preceded her in death on September 16, 1983. She retired from Pillsbury Mills and Capital City Baptist Associational Clerk. She was also a Charter Member of Taylorville Southern Baptist Church.

She is survived by her Daughter: June Coffey of Rochester, IL; Sisters: Doris Spoon of Carlinville, IL; Betty Qualls of Springfield, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 Brothers Willard, Warren and Hubert Dawson, Son-in-Law: Christian VanDerHaven.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Dr. Delbert Penrod officiating assisted by Pastor Jim Augenstein. Burial will be in Charity Cemetery in Carlinville. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Philip George Schwab of Stonington

Philip George Schwab, 33, of Stonington, IL formerly of Taylorville, died August 3, 2013 at Bull Shoals Lake, Arkansas from a scuba diving accident.

He was born December 26, 1979 in Springfield, IL the son of Joseph George and Susan Marie Kelmel Schwab. Phillip was employed at Archer Daniels Midland in Decatur, IL and was a member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge #1516.

He is survived by “the love of his life”, his daughter: Shayna Schwab of Warrensburg, IL; Mother: Susan Moomey and husband Kevin of Morrisonville; Father: Joseph Schwab of Assumption; Maternal Grandmother: Frances Frost of Taylorville, Brothers: Vincent Schwab of Taylorville, Adam Schwab of Moweaqua, Cody Moomey and Patrick Moomey both of Morrisonville, and Sister: Heather Moomey with the U.S. Army in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. There are also 2 Nieces: Lily Schwab and Alexzia Schwab both of Taylorville.

Richard Deweese of Taylorville

Richard Deweese, 59, of Taylorville, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013 at 7:41 p.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born February 4, 1954 in Taylorville, IL. The Son of Donald and Shirley (Williams) Deweese.

He is survived by his Sisters: Sharon Ali of Springfield, IL; Mary Kessler of Taylorville, IL; Dawn (Robert) Zwick of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded by his Parents Don and Shirley Deweese; Grandparents Orman and Mary Deweese, Lida and Ross Williams.

Private family services will be held at a later at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Carl Leroy Cork Nicol of Assumption

Carl Leroy “Cork” Nicol, 76, of Assumption, IL died at 3:55 am Sunday August 4, 2013 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 6, 1936 in Assumption the Son of John Keith and Mary Olive Boliard Nicol.

Mr. Nicol was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Suez Canal and the Gulf of Tonkin. He was a retired applicator for P & C Ltd. Fertilizer Co. He was a member of the V.F.W and American Legion both of Assumption IL. And was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.

He is survived by companion Trudy List of Assumption, Brother: Ron and wife Terri Nicol of Taylorville, Sister-in-Law: Marie Nicol of Minier IL. Nieces and Nephews: Spencer Weber, Stacy Higgins, Shannon Mann, Josh Nicol and Rhonda Nicol-Sterzinger. Great-Nieces and Nephews: Gavin Weber, Logan Weber, John Spencer Higgins, Lauren Higgins, Margaret Higgins, Bridget Higgins, Austin Wright, Allison Wright, Alivia Mann, Emily Sterzinger and Mia Sterzinger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother: Richard L. Nicol, 2 Sisters: Donna Janet Blancalflou and Marilyn Jean Weber. 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday August 7, 2013 at 11:00 am, First United Methodist Church of Assumption With Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services in the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.

Mary Ann Staunder of Nokomis

Mary Ann Staunder, 84, of Nokomis, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 3:35 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. She was born November 12, 1928 in Raymond, IL. The Daughter of Cecil and Beula (Nettleship) Niehaus. She married Marvin Stauder on October 26, 1950 in Nokomis and he later preceded her in death on April 13, 2010. She had retired as the owner and operator of the candy store in Nokomis.

She is survived by her Son: James (Lynne) Stauder of Nokomis, IL; Daughters: Sally (Doug) Keenan of Pana, IL; Sandra Stauder of Chatham, IL; Five Grandchildren; Ten Great-Grandchildren; Sister-in-Law: Geraldine Stauder of Nokomis, IL Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Suzanne Stauder.

Ethel james Jimmie Emmerling of Taylorville

Ethel James "Jimmie" Emmerling, 85, of Taylorville IL died at 1:45pm Thursday August 1, 2013 at Taylorville Care Center, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born August 6, 1927 in Stonington, IL. The daughter of James and Margaret Hyslop Buffington. She married John William "Bud" Emmerling on October 18, 1947 at the Holy Trinity Parsonage in Stonington IL. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2007. Mrs. Emmerlin was a retired legal secretary at Hershey, Bliss and Beavers Law firm. Jimmie loved to travel with her husband, was an avid bridge player, loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by Children: Mark Anthony Emmerling of Springfield IL., Cheryl Dennis Williams and Husband Jerry of Taylorville, Michael Gerard "Mike" Emmerling of Langleyville, John Francis Emmerling and wife Valerie of Howards Grove WI. Nine Grandchildren: Michelle Williams, Jason Williams, Joshua Emmerling, Lisa Emmerling Fehr, Scott Emmerling, Theresa Emmerling, Sarah Emmerling, Stephen Emmerling, Patrick Emmerling. Great-Granddaughter: Alyssa Emmerling. Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Daughter: Beth Ann Emmerling, Two Sisters: Dorothy Pollock and Margaret Wattelet.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Monday, August 5, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylorville, IL., with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL. Visitation will be held form 5:00 to 7:00pm Sunday August 4, 2013 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, IL.
