Mr. Albert Reno Burchi, 82, of Kincaid, IL was called home to his Lord at 2:26 P.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

He was born in Taylorville, IL January 2, 1939, the son of Reno and Dorothy (Eldridge) Burchi. Mr. Burchi married Ms. Melba Cairel on February 11, 1958, in Kincaid, IL and she preceded him in death in April of 2017.

Mr. Burchi Retired from the United States Navy. He later retired as a Coal Miner from mine #10 near Pawnee, IL and member of U.M.W.A. Following retirement Mr. Burchi worked for a time driving school busses in Taylorville. He formerly attended Kincaid Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sang. Albert later joined the Edinburg First Baptist Church.   Melba and Al were known to many nursing homes in the surrounding area as the “Joy Bells” where they enjoyed entertaining with their singing and playing.  Albert enjoyed singing, dancing and spending time with his family. 

Surviving are two sons Alan (Renee) Burchi and Jack (Linda) Burchi of Kincaid and a daughter Robin (Robert) Beloit of Bulpitt, IL, grandchildren Brittany, Westin, Austin and Jason Burchi of Kincaid, Bailey and Rylie Beloit of Bulpitt, and Kira Lopez of New Mexico, 3 great grandchildren, Ronin Epps, Gabrean Lopez, and Seferino Lopez of NM and 2 great-great grandchildren Mila and Malaya Altrey of NM.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Melba whom he dearly missed, one great-grandson and a brother-in-law Jack (Janice) Cairel of Stark, FL.

Visitation for Mr. Albert Burchi will be held at Edinburg First Baptist Church, Edinburg IL on Sunday, October 3, 2021, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. with services to follow at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Tom Hamilton will be officiating.   Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 4 in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL next to his beloved wife Melba. 

After a long battle with prostate cancer, Gregory “Greg” Earl Stephens took the checkered flag, passing away peacefully in his sleep at 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 26^th in Avon, Ind. He was 72.

Affectionately known as “The Captain,” Stephens was born on November 12,^, 1948 and graduated from Taylorville High School in 1966, before attending Parks College in Cahokia, Ill.

His passion for racing, resulted in him leaving the Sabreliner Corporation in 1986 to enter the video production industry, chasing motorsports events all over the country, including the USA Sprints and the World of Outlaws, under his company MotorSport Video. Most of Stephens’ time was spent covering the World of Outlaws tour, before they were purchased in 2004.

Post-World of Outlaws, Stephens remained staple in the motorsports video production industry in producing/directing shows and camera operating up until 2020. His nearly four-decade career in the industry paved the way for generations of videographers covering motorsports events, not to mention set the baseline for today’s streaming video market in the industry.

In 2019, Stephens was rewarded for his contributions to the sprint car community when he was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Ia.

Stephens is survived by his children Miranda “Mindy” Stephens, Avon, Ind., Nicklaus Stephens, Mooresville, N.C., and Shannon (Heather) Stephens, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brother David Stephens, Taylorville, Ill., sister Yvonne Roberts, Taylorville, Ill.; aunts Janet Chamness, Nancy Sautelet, and Joyce Snyder; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His parents Eloise and Jack Stephens, aunt and uncle Mary Lou and Bob Millman, and other immediate family members preceded him in death.

There will be four celebrations of life, with the first in his hometown of Taylorville, Ill., at the Loyal Order of Moose, Saturday, October 9^th from noon-4 p.m., where he was a member. The remaining celebrations will take place in the Indianapolis area the following week, Charlotte, N.C.-area first week of November, and the final during the 2022 Knoxville Nationals in Iowa.

Priscilla Lee Schmidt, 77, of Stonington, died at 5:34 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Taylorville

Care Center.

She was born on December 22, 1943, in Decatur, the daughter of Daniel and Sophie (Thomas) Root. On July 3,

1970, she married Arthur “Art” Schmidt in Decatur, IL. She worked for General Electric for 10 years in the Changer Plant. Alongside her husband, they later owned and operated Schmidt’s Orchard in Stonington for 35 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her stepsons: Gary Schmidt and wife Sandra of Pryor, OK; 3 step grandchildren:

Jacob Schmidt of Decatur, IL, Emily Ure and husband Mitchell of St. Louis, MO, and Tyler Henderson of

Springfield, IL; and sister Julia Coffman and husband Thomas of Taylorville, IL. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and stepson, Bruce Schmidt.

Carolyn Sue Busby, 81 of Mustang, OK, formerly of Peoria and Taylorville, died on September 22, 2021, at 5:30 a.m. She was born on May 31, 1940.

She was the nicest, most consistent person, always ready to greet anyone with a smile. She could laugh at anything and get to know anyone. A bright light in the stormy sea of life. She loved to eat pizza, drink Yoohoo and watch Star Trek Movies with her grandson Johnny. She was able to celebrate birthdays with her great-grandchildren. She always welcomed us back home with a warm bowl of potato soup and Avanti’s Gondola’s if it was cold out or Penguin Pizza if it was warm, loving and caring for everyone. Long conversations around the kitchen table were always a joy for family and guest. Whether riding motorcycles, playing hockey or helping with Boy Scouts, mom and dad were always there and involved. She enjoyed fishing each Mother’s Day with her son Vernon Busby.

She is survived by her son: Marvin (Mabel) Busby; grandson: Jonathan Lee (Chelly) Busby; great-grandchildren: Clara and Joel; grandson: Lee Joshua (Rachel) Busby; great-grandchildren: Hannah G. and Emma C; and her nieces and nephews.

Jimmy Collins, 88 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 4:25 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on August 6, 1933 in Taylorville, IL the son of Walter “Dutch” and Clara (Passoni) Collins. He married Anna Marie Tirey on December 19, 1952 in Stonington, IL. Jimmy worked and retired from Caterpillar in Decatur. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jimmy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville Knights of Columbus, VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville.

Margaret Louise Muir, 84 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 7:50 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on July 18, 1937 in Pana, IL the daughter of Raymond Matthew and Effie Mea (McMahon) Stanbery. She married James Eugene Muir on May 25, 1956 in Pana, IL. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

Janet Deloris Lawyer, 79 of Taylorville passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021 into her saviors’ arms at 9:05 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on February 26, 1942 in Moweaqua, IL the daughter of Cecil and Evelyn (Eversole) Shuck. She married James Lawyer on April 16, 1961 in Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Assumption, IL and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2017. Janet had her Beautician license where she started her career and then later, she worked and retired from the Taylorville Junior High School Cafeteria. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Pana. Janet loved her husband, children, and especially her Grandchildren. Her brother was a great support system through the years, they had a relationship that could not be broken even with death. Janet was known for her sense of humor and her ability to cook the best poached eggs, lasagna and chocolate chip cookies around.  In most recent days, she enjoyed feeding and watching the squirrels run in her yard.

Alice June Thomas, 87, formerly of Edinburg, passed away at 12:46p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Pana Community Hospital. She was born on January 3, 1934 in Springfield, the daughter of James Clarence and Mary Evelyn Rhoades. She married Marvin L. Thomas Sr. on June 4, 1952 in Mississippi, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 2012. Alice spent most of her life as a homemaker who dedicated her life to raising her family. She enjoyed crocheting and was a talented cook. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Marvin L. Thomas Jr. of Taylorville, Randall W. Thomas (Reggie) of Taylorville, Debra L. Mathias (Tim) of Edinburg, Terry Littrell of Taylorville, Paul Thomas (Wendy) of Paducah, Kentucky, and Evelyn Risse (Mike) of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Robert Wilson “Bob” Willis, 79, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:48p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 5, 1942 in Mulberry, Illinois, the son of William Wilson and Ina Bell (Elmore) Willis. He married Mary Ann Dilley on July 1, 1983 in Taylorville. Bob worked for many years as a meat cutter at My Store in Taylorville before working for Wick Buildings. He retired as a foreman, working at Asgrow in Stonington. Bob will be remembered as a hard-working man who enjoyed spending time outside and woodworking. He enjoyed watching westerns. Traveling was also a joy for Bob and Mary Ann, especially trips to Branson and to Seattle to visit his family.

Todd Alan “Bird” Bruns, 53 of Taylorville, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 in his home. He was born on October 16, 1967 in Taylorville, the son of Sondra E. Birkenkamp and Larry M. Bruns. Todd worked as a truck driver for several years driving throughout the country, especially through the Rocky Mountains. He also enjoyed spending several years helping with fall harvest as a truck driver. Todd was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel. He enjoyed shooting sports and spending time at the gun range. Recently he took up archery in addition to guns. Todd will be remembered as a very giving, generous person. He was always willing to help out any family member, friend, or neighbor that needed assistance. He would do anything for anyone. Early in life he received medical assistance from the Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and in appreciation of that care, the family requests memorials to be left to the hospital in Todd’s memory.

Bethann Coonrod, 68 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 2:05 a.m. at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care Center in Hillsboro, IL. She was born on July 13, 1953 in Carrollton, IL the daughter of Hubert “Shorty” and Maryann (Craig) Coonrod. She worked in the dietary department at St. Vincent Hospital for 10 years before having to retire due to an illness. Bethann was the purest of souls, she never seen wrong in a person and never chose anger over joy and forgiveness. She lived and breathed for her family, her nieces and nephews were her pride and joy. Bethann enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading books, watching Supernatural and any chance to spend time with her family. Her laughter was contagious and her love for her family was never ending.

Charles J. Roberts, 78, of Taylorville, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at his residence.

Charlie was born September 24, 1942 in Taylorville, the son of Gerald and Dorothy (Huffman) Roberts. He graduated from Taylorville High School, and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Navy. Charlie married Carole Ann Moe on April 29, 1966 at Davis Memorial Christian Church, and they have enjoyed 55 years of marriage.

Charlie worked for Allis Chalmers in Springfield, and was a part-time realtor while there. He then worked for Commonwealth Edison as a Shift Engineer, until his retirement in 1996. Charlie worked for Stonington FS for many years during his retirement. He was a former president on the Taylorville Lions Club, and a longtime member of Davis Memorial Christian Church. Charlie was an easy going, jokester, and committed to his family. In his youth he enjoyed riding motorcycles, and was a lifelong boating enthusiast. Charlie enjoyed flying remote controlled airplanes, and most of all, enjoyed being at the lake with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard M. Roberts.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Carole Roberts of Taylorville; children, Aaron (wife, Brenda) Roberts of Taylorville, and Catherine Roberts Kocurek of Taylorville; grandchildren, Adam Walton of Cleveland, TN, Markie Kocurek of Bossier City, LA, Hannah Roberts of Taylorville, and Haley Oller of Taylorville; great grandson, Dimitri Williamson; brother, Jerry (wife, Ida) Roberts of Fairbury; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born on January 13, 2004 in Taylorville, the daughter of Jason B. Garrison and Kellie C. Barry. She was a senior at Taylorville High School. Alexia loved animals, not only her pet rabbit and cat, but also any animal she came in touch with. She loved to cook, and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. More than anything, Alexia loved her family as much as they loved and adored her. She had a love of kids, especially her cousins with whom she loved spending time with. Alexia will always be remembered by her friends and family as a quiet, tender-hearted person who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her mother: Kellie C. Barry; father: Jason B Garrison; brothers: Chase Clayton and Connor Hunsley; maternal grandmother: Jeannie Brown; paternal grandparents: Gary and Debbie Garrison; aunt and uncles: Janis and Roger Bricker and Patrick Barry all of Taylorville; great grandparents: Roy and Stella Alvey of Enid, Oklahoma; and several cousins, great aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandfather: Thomas Barry; aunt: Laura Garrison; and great grandparents: Jerome and Aldona Klee, Rod Garrison, and Dena Garrison.

The visitation for Alexia will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. All health protocols will be followed including the use of masks and limited number of visitors allowed inside the funeral home at a time. Merle L. Lyons, 69 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 3:43 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on June 12, 1952 in Taylorville, IL the son of Raye and Marjorie (Summers) Lyons. He married Dawne Morgan on September 10, 2008 in Taylorville, IL. Merle worked as a machinist at Caterpillar in Decatur, IL. He was a member of Lake Shore Golf Course where he was an avid golfer and he loved to play pool. He loved his Harley Davidson and loved collecting t-shirts and poker chips from different states.

He is survived by his Wife: Dawne Lyons of Taylorville, IL; Step-Son: Guy (Sarah) Harminson of Sullivan, IL; Grandchildren: Nevaeh and Caysen Harminson of Sullivan, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Shane Lyons and sister: Cathy Lyons.

Bobby Lynn Adams, 55, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at home. 

Bobby was born on May 31, 1966, in Shelbyville, the son of Ben Ray and Ella Mae (Gaston) Adams.  

Surviving are his four children:  Crystal Harris, Sharon Adams, both of Vandalia, Jennifer Thompson of Herrick and Cherish (Justin) Huddlestun of Pana; nine grandchildren; brother, David Joe (Amy) Adams of Cowden; one niece and one nephew.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Marguerite Hendricks, 86 of Taylorville, passed away at 7:35p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 26, 1934 in Niantic, the daughter of Robert and Minnie Katherine (Miller) Hancock. She married Calvin E. Hendricks on December 25, 1957 in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1993. Mary worked as a CNA in local nursing homes and the hospital. She was an active member of Davis Memorial Christian Church where she participated in many aspects of ministry. Mary was a dedicated volunteer for Kids Are Kids. She loved doing puzzles, crafting and crocheting, playing Bingo, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her children: Marcia Collins, Chuckie Hendricks, and Shelly Thunhorst (Shawn) all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Michael Joseph Collins (Sarah) of Nokomis, Angela Lancaster (Zachary) of Taylorville, and Brittni Nicole Schmedeke (Sean) of Taylorville; great grandchildren: Riley and Ryanne Lancaster, Aiden Collins, Jaxon Simpson, and Thea Schmedeke; sister: Pat McVey of Assumption; and several nieces and nephews. Joyce Kay Morrissey, 53 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 10:15 p.m. at her nephew’s home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on November 10, 1967 in Carrollton, IL the daughter of Albert Wayne and Brenda Kaye (Goodman) Hamm Sr. She married Thomas E. Morrissey and he preceded her in death on September 6, 2008. She worked as a private in-home care provider.

She is survived by her sons: Matt and Michael Morrissey; grandchildren: Derek, Maelee, Brody and Maecin; sisters: Sally Delahunt, Marsha (Jason) Long; brother: Albert Hamm; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister: Tina (James) Tirpak.

Wayne Mack Callaway Jr., 74 of Taylorville, passed away at 6:00pm on Monday, September 13, 2021 in his home. He was born on January 3, 1946 in Kincaid, the son of Wayne Mack Callaway Sr. and Bertie (Burke) Callaway. He married Shirley Ann Harmon on January 2, 1986 in Taylorville. Wayne was a coal miner, working for 30 years at Peabody Mine #10 as a roof bolter, and was a member of the UMWA. Following the closing of the mine, Wayne worked as a maintenance man at Walmart. He enjoyed his work family so much that he continued spending time walking the store even after his retirement, visiting with his coworkers, friends, and old coal mining friends. When he wasn’t working, Wayne enjoyed spending time at home, working in his garage or going out fishing.

He is survived by his wife: Shirley Callaway of Taylorville; son: Mark Callaway (Crissy) of Owaneco; 4 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; and sister: Kathy Sedlock (John) of Kincaid. He was preceded in death by his parents and son: Max Callaway.

Wayne will be cremated, and his remains placed in Oak Hill Cemetery. No services are planned at this time. Lawanda Jean Oseland, 91 of Springfield passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 12:36 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on July 16, 1930 in Rosamond, IL the daughter of Fay and Maudie (Hughes) Walker. She married Robert Otto Oseland in September of 1965 in Las Vegas, NV and he preceded her in death on November 29, 2015. Lawanda worked as a bookkeeper at several area vehicle dealerships. She was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Arcana Chapter #493 in Pana, IL.

She is survived by her Son: Martin (Tammy) “Marty” Horsthemke of Indianapolis, IN; Grandsons: Jeremy and Grant Horsthemke, two Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Marilyn (Matt) Robson of Aurora, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

John (Jack) Louis Rhoads passed away September 9, 2021, surrounded by family. He was 79 years old.

Jack was born in Litchfield, IL, the son of Bernard John and Mary Jane (Kinney) Rhoads, and spent most of his life in Morrisonville, IL. He proudly served his country in the Illinois National Guard/U.S. Air Force achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant until his retirement, and then worked for Country Insurance for the latter part of his life. He graduated from Morrisonville High School and attended Michigan State University.

Jack was a member of St Maurice Catholic Church, and later St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Morrisonville Knights of Columbus (Past Grand Knight), Morrisonville American Legion (Past Commander), Morrisonville Community Club (Past President), and Morrisonville Village Board (Trustee for 20 years), and many other organizations.

He was married to his wife Barbara (Dougherty) Rhoads for nearly 54 years. They had three children, Bernie (Missi) of Platte City, Mo, Randy (Kate) of Ashburn, VA, Aimee (Ken) of Chatham, IL; ten grandchildren, Lexie, Katie, Ally, Evan, Trey, Jaxon, Jimmy, Fletch, Connor, and Mia, with whom he spent much time having fun and creating memories. The last several years of Jack’s life were spent in The Villages, FL where he enjoyed many outdoor activities with friends and family.

He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara (Harley) Cole of St. Charles, MO, and Terry (Larry) Haare of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Raymond, Richard, and Joseph.

Jack was beloved by so many friends and family and will be dearly missed here on earth, but we all know that Heaven will be rocking while welcoming him home!

Robert “Bob” W. Southard, 78 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 10:20 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on May 26, 1943 in South Fork Township, IL the son of Charles and Nellie (Richardson) Southard. He married Barbara J. Robinson on October 24, 1975 in Taylorville, IL. He worked as a machinist at Caterpillar in Decatur, IL and was a member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge #1516. Bob enjoyed gardening, working in his yard and collecting tractors. Since retiring, he began building, picture frames for Barb’s puzzles, awesome bird houses and other wood working projects. He also loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball as well as other sporting events.

He is survived by his Wife: Barbara “Barb” Southard of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Teri Bankhead (Companion Jerry O’Neill) of Tuscan, AZ, Robyn Menossi (Companion Alex Manzo) of Temecula, CA; Son: Todd (Kimberly) Southard of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Boston Menossi, Seth Nelson McKenna Southard-Kitson, Carson Southard, Olivia Bankhead, Nicholas Manzo; Brother: Lester (Sharon) Southard of Blue Mound, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. James M. Freitag, 76 of Taylorville, passed away at 1:40pm on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana. He was born on August 11, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William P. and Ruth G. (Niehart) Freitag. Jim graduated from Taylorville High School in 1963. He was a proud Navy Veteran, serving from 1965 until 1969, much of that time aboard the U.S.S. Little Rock. He married Sharon L. Gibson on October 3, 1970 in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on March 31, 2009. Jim previously worked as a Pipe Fitter through Local 65 in Decatur and retired as a Maintenance Craftsman at the Taylorville Correctional Center.

He is survived by his daughters: Nancy Jacoby (Mark) of Taylorville and Bonnie Kastl (Greg) of Normal; grandchildren: Kaytlin Jacoby of Taylorville and Phillip James Kastl and Alexander George Kastl both of Normal; and brother: Richard Freitag (Barb) of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother: Glenn William Freitag.

Mr. Freitag will be cremated and his remains placed next to his wife in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. No services are planned at this time. Catherine Alacoque Traynor, 100, of Taylorville, passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Monday,
September 6, 2021 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Alacoque was born September 4, 1921 in Litchfield, the daughter of the late Oscar and Agnes (Cooney) Smith.  She married Stuart J. Traynor on October 30, 1942, in Columbia, IL.  He preceded her in death on December 10, 2008.

Alacoque graduated from Gillespie High School in 1939, worked as a secretary and then teacher for the Gillespie school district.  She spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, but when her children were raised, she worked for Ferry, Zimmers, and Smith Dental Office until her retirement.  Alacoque was a devoted member to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was active in the Catholic Daughters of America. Other interests included St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Taylorville Women’s Business Association, and the Taylorville Home Tours. She was an accomplished seamstress, and her embroidery was remarkable. Alacoque enjoyed being outdoors, vacationing in Michigan, and in her youth, she especially loved water skiing.  Above all, Alacoque was devoted to her family.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Witsman; daughter-in-law, Sallie Traynor; and brother, William Smith.

Alacoque is survived by her children, Stuart J. (wife, Barbara) Traynor, Jr. of Taylorville, Lance Traynor of Taylorville, Mary Jane (husband, Ernest) Dryer of Annapolis, MD, Patrick (wife, Denise) Traynor of St. Louis, MO, and Michael Traynor of Taylorville; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Alan Louis Christopher, 70, of Edinburg, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021.

Alan was born December 22, 1950 in Morrisonville, the son of Clarence and Treva (Parish) Christopher, Sr. He graduated from Edinburg High School with the Class of 1969, and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, Alan continued to serve our country in the United States Naval Reserves for many years. He married Sheila Blevins, and together they had three children. They later divorced.

Alan worked for 19 years as a welder for Fiat Allis in Springfield, before the plant closed. He then worked as a window washer for Maintenance Supply Corp. in Springfield for many years, and he loved repelling down the sides of the buildings he washed. Alan also farmed for the Bunn family for many years. He loved flower and vegetable gardening, enjoying it so much that he took forestry and horticulture classes at Lincoln Land Community College. Alan competed in many bowling leagues over the years, and he enjoyed a good game of Trivial Pursuit and John Wayne westerns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Travis Anthony Christopher; brothers, Barry and James Christopher; and sister, Barbara Colclasure.

Alan is survived by his son, A. Louis Christopher II of Deer Trail, CO; daughter, Salena (husband, Jason) Gibson of Chatham; grandsons, Chase, Carson, and Joseph Gibson; siblings, Donnie (wife, Susie) Christopher of Taylorville, Treva (husband, John) Fiaoni of Taylorville, Willie (husband, Doug) Murphy of Ohio, Millie Christopher of Edinburg, and Clarence (wife, Grace) Christopher, Jr. of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David Michael Hart, 78 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 12:49 a.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on July 1, 1943 in Granite City, IL the son of Jack and Mildred (Bridges) Hart. He married Linda Newberry on April 20, 1991 in Taylorville, IL. Dave worked as a laborer for the Decatur Laborers Union.

Charles “Chuck” Harmon, age 86, of Springboro, OH; died Saturday September 4, 2021 at his residence.. Chuck was born in Taylorville, IL on November 18, 1934 to the late Floyd and Fern Harmon. He was employed with General Motors for over 30 years and EDS. After retirement in 1990 he was employed part time with Kroger’s. Chuck was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Miamisburg for over 60 years. He was an avid sports fan of the Cincinnati Reds and enjoyed horses. Chuck is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gloria (Wells) Harmon; his three daughters, Patricia Napier, Susan (Sam) Cooper, Nancy (Steve) Jeanmougin; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren with one on the way. Chuck was one of 11 children and is survived by two sisters, Donnie (Gene) Peters, Bert, and a brother, Elmer Harmon. Ralph Burgener, 72 of Sullivan formerly of Owaneco passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Sullivan Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Sullivan, IL. He was born on April 16, 1949 in Decatur, IL the son of Edward and Dorothy (Riley) Burgener. Ralph worked as a farmer and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Assumption and Assumption Knights of Columbus.

Ellen Louise Colbrook, 79, of Stonington, passed away at 9:29pm on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. 

She was born on June 13, 1942 in Bloomington, the daughter of William and Mildred (Roggy) Morgan.  Ellen married William Patrick Colbrook on January 20, 1962 in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington.  She graduated from LeRoy High School in 1960 and graduated from Decatur School of Practical Nursing in 1961, becoming licensed to practical nursing through the State of Illinois. 

Ellen’s nursing career included her love for geriatrics, where she worked at Dexheimer Nursing Home in Taylorville and later at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Decatur.  She also worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville where she was hand selected to be on the first team of the newly formed Intensive Care Unit.  Later her work took her to the Christian County Medical Clinic. 

When Ellen was 50, she became a massage therapist.  She graduated from a massage program in Alexandria, Indiana and went on to become Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Body Work.  In 1995 Ellen opened Colbrook Massage in Taylorville, a business she operated for 18 years until her retirement.

She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a 4H leader, and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as an officer with the DAR.  Ellen helped her husband farm for a time and was the first female member of the Stonington Fire Department.  She enjoyed taking part in lip-sync competitions at the Stonington Summerfest.  Ellen enjoyed spending time in the garden, canning the fruits of her labors and watching Bill feed the birds.  One of the many ways she gave back to her family was sewing countless projects and creating cross stitch Christmas stockings for her grandchildren.  She enjoyed creating photo albums and memory books to document the history of her family.

Ellen loved playing card games of all types with family and friends for many years.  Her love of the games wasn’t so much about the competition as it was the friendships and memories developed around the card table.  Her card playing friends became her extended family.  As shown through her work, Ellen was a true caretaker.  She took great pride in raising her children and being the perfect homemaker.  Her dedication to others extended to her grandchildren whom she dearly loved.  She proudly hosted “Camp Grandma” for many years that included tea parties and hiking adventures, making memories with her grandchildren that will last forever.  Ellen wasn’t just a mother to her 5 children, but proudly filled in for countless people that needed someone in their life to fill the motherly role.  

She is survived by her husband: William “Bill” Colbrook of Stonington; children: Margaret Wilson (Brian) of Downers Grove, William “Bill” Colbrook (Kim) of Urbana, Robert “Bob” Colbrook of Downers Grove; Amy Wade (Chris) of Stonington, and Matthew “Matt” (Nancy) Colbrook of Taylorville; grandchildren: Adam Wilson, Ben Wilson, Sarah Wilson, Emily Wilson, Steven Colbrook (Robyn), Joe Colbrook, Natacia Stillwell, Zachary Tobias, Marcus Goines, Mirrah Stillwell, Hannah Colbrook, Denise Colbrook, Madison Colbrook, Garrett Colbrook, Sophie Wade, Rozella Colbrook, William Colbrook, and Zettie Colbrook; great grandchild: Beckham Colbrook; siblings: Jerry Morgan of Naperville, Kenneth Morgan (Marian) of LeRoy, and Keith Morgan (Sherry) of LeRoy; sister-in-law: Sylvia Morgan of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Robert Morgan; and sister-in-law: Marge Morgan.

A funeral mass for Ellen will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Monsignor David Lantz officiating.  Burial will be in the Old Stonington Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday at the church in Stonington.  Everyone is asked to wear a mask to the visitation and mass.  Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Scott Edward McLaughlin, 58 of Taylorville, passed away at 10:30pm on Friday, September 3, 2021 in his home.  He was born on November 17, 1962 in Taylorville, the son of George and Doris E (Matson) McLaughlin. 

Scott was a member of the Owaneco United Methodist Church and previously worked at the Christian County Mental Health Workshop.  He had a love of sports and participated in Special Olympics for many years and also enjoyed playing basketball, bowling, bike riding, and roller skating.  Scott also enjoyed working on puzzles and listening to music including the Beach Boys and Alvin and the Chipmunks.  

He is survived by his mother: Doris McLaughlin of Owaneco; brother: Stephen (Dolores) McLaughlin of Taylorville; sisters-in-law: Jane Everett (Bill) and Kathy McLaughlin and her son Mark Calloway and his children, all of Owaneco; nieces and nephews: Matthew McLaughlin (Lyndsey) and their children Brynna and Madeline, Jarrod McLaughlin, Tara Kowalczyk (Jason) and their children: Kyle and Colin, Chad McLaughlin (Kelly) and their children Briar and Mikayla Brown (Mike), Michael McLaughlin (Krissy) and daughter: Hadley, and Mandy Boehler (Dave) and children William and Abigail; and special friends: Mary and Danny Speagle, LeVeta Haddock, and Selena Horn.  He was preceded in death by his father: George McLaughlin and brothers: George William McLaughlin and Dennis L. McLaughlin.

The funeral service for Scott will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Diwan Tiwade officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service and burial will be in the Owaneco Cemetery.

Beverly Ruth Dial, 78, of Taylorville, passed away at 8:55 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at her residence.

Beverly was born December 22, 1942 in Taylorville, the daughter of Donald M. and Lela Geraldine (Nance) Durbin.  She married Carl Eugene Enlow, and he preceded her in death.  Beverly then married Jack Dial, and he preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Enlow; step-father, Marion “Kelly” Hazel; sisters, Josephine Durbin and Clara Spain; and brother, Donald “Ed” Durbin.

Beverly is survived by her son, Richard (Linnell) Enlow of Maroa; 5 granddaughters; many great grandchildren; siblings, Larry Durbin, and Judy (Bob) Graven, both of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz officiating.

Greta J. Wilson, 93, of Edinburg, passed away at 6:25 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at her residence.

Greta was born December 6, 1927 in Smith Mills, KY, the daughter of Claude and Ida Lee (Moffitt) Meyer. She married Donald Perry Wilson in 1943 in Morganfield, KY. He preceded her in death August 2, 1999. For the majority of her life, Greta was a homemaker. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Durham in Edinburg from 1978 until 1986.

Greta was a woman of unwavering faith, and a long-time member of the Edinburg First Baptist Church. She was ornery and sometimes stubborn, but she was also the most caring mother and grandmother in the world. Greta was simply amazing. She was an amazing cook, and had an incredibly green thumb, always tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Greta was a talented musician and singer as well, having been a member of the All-Kentucky Chorus in her youth. She taught herself to play many instruments, but she was an especially good pianist. Greta was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the world’s biggest University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball fan.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodney Wilson; sister, Claudette Hope; son-in-law, Robert D. Fleming, Jr.; and gentleman friend, Richard Stout.

Greta is survived by her daughters, Donetta (husband, Quentin) Bottorff of Springfield, and Helga L. Fleming of Taylorville; grandchildren, Elizabeth (husband, Bret) Wade of Jacksonville, Jane Moskus of Springfield, Tomey (wife, Lori) Wilson of Riverton, David (wife, Juletta) Ellis of Litchfield, Amanda (husband, Danny) Klay of Stonington, Lacy (husband, Andrew) Ford of Mt. Zion, Benjamin (wife, Audrey Rosenblatt) Bottorff of Oak Park, and Karyn Elise (husband, Rudell) Ferguson of Carpentersville; 21 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother, Buddy (wife, Bettye) Meyer of Smith Mills, KY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mariam E. Winans, 98 of Mt. Auburn passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 12:05 p.m. at her home in rural Mt. Auburn, IL. She was born on November 16, 1922 in Champaign, IL the daughter of Denzil and Myra (Frazee) Smith. She married R. Merle Winans on February 1, 1947 in Chatham, IL. She retired from Memorial Medical Center as R.N. in 1991. Mariam graduated from Chatham High School in the Class of 1940 and St. John’s School of Nursing in 1946.

She is survived by her daughter: Linda Jo Winans, of Mt. Auburn; sons: Russ (Becky) Winans, Mt. Auburn; Curt (Vickie) Winans, Mt. Auburn; Alex (Kay) Winans, Mt. Lester Gaylord Fesser, 92 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at his home in rural Taylorville, IL. He was born on October 14, 1928 in Taylorville, IL the son of Lester Francis and Hattie Viretta (Smith) Fesser. He married Shirley L. Blair on April 25, 1952 in Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on January 19, 1993. He worked as a laborer at Caterpillar in Decatur and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Lester was a member of the Edinburg Masonic Lodge #647 AF&AM and the Ansar Shrine.

He is survived by his Son: Danny (Carol) Fesser of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Melinda (Ryan) Jones of Virginia Beach, VA; Craig (Ashlee) Fesser of Smithfield, VA; Great-Grandchildren: Zara (8), Ella (4), Riley (15), Jaxon (10). He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and Son: Michael G. Fesser.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Wanda Lucille (Litz) Gregg, 76, of Champaign, IL, formerly of Cowden, IL, passed away peacefully at home, with her loving family by her side, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Wanda was born on March 17, 1945, in Pana, the daughter of Chris and Ruby (Kaiser) Litz. She was a 1963 graduate of Pana High School. She went on to attend Eastern Illinois University and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. Wanda and Melvin Duane Gregg were married on September 3, 1965 and celebrated 53 joyous years together before his passing on February 1, 2019. Wanda worked at Kroger in Effingham and Nokomis, retiring from the Nokomis store. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cowden and the Shelby County Homemakers Extension Association. Wanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and she adored all animals. The most important thing to her was spending time with her family and friends. She loved her family unconditionally and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her daughter, Cindy (Clint) Hovde of Eden Prairie, MN; son, Darrin Gregg of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren: Jessica Hovde of Eden Prairie, MN and Alexander Gregg of Clarksville, TN; siblings: Rosalee Kaiser of Pana, Janice Trosper (friend, Jim) of Pana, Christina (Ron) Morris of Nokomis, Connie Litz of Arcola, Dennis Litz of Shelbyville and Gail (Lawrence) Beck of Champaign; sister-in-law, Shirley (David) Hall of Cowden; nieces and nephews: Monica Trosper of Pana, Kevin (Dawn) Mascher of Nokomis, Susan Litz Jones of Utah, Adam Litz of Taylorville, Crystal (Nic) Turner of Shelbyville, Abby Beck (Simon) Cave of San Francisco, CA, Julie Hall (Gary) Stewart of Duarte, CA, Philip (Pam) Hall of Flora, Crystal Hall (Jim) Ping of Marshall and many great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
