Harold J. Johnson Jr.

 

Harold J. “Butch” Johnson Jr., 68, of Taylorville passed away at 9:31am on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 15, 1948, the son of Harold J and Eula (Stewart) Johnson. He married Susan K Armstrong on November 7, 1970 at the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville. He served in the United States Army with the 173rd Airborne Brigade during the Vietnam conflict. After returning from the service, he worked as a lab technician at Georgia Pacific. Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer, contractor, and co-owner of Taylorville Auto Sales along with his son Brad. He was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church. After his family and faith, cars were his passion. He was an avid collector and restorer of Corvettes. His pride was his 1970 Chevelle, of which he was the original owner and was able to repurchase just a few years ago. Butch also raised many Dachshunds over the years, including JoJo and Dexie.

He is survived by his wife: Susie Johnson of Taylorville; son: Brad Johnson of Taylorville; daughter: Shannan Rodgers of St. Louis; grandchildren: Braden Johnson and Brooke Hepworth; sisters: Anna (Jerry) Chance and Janet (Faron) Brown both of Taylorville; aunts: Ida DeClerck, Dorothy Peters, and Pat Price; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Char Johnson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7pm on Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Memorials may be made to the Taylorville First United Methodist Church or the St. Louis Shriner’s Hospital for Children. John Moore

 

John Moore, 81 of Edinburg passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 12:55 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. He was born on December 21, 1934 in Taylorville, IL the Son of Phillip E. and Ida “Pearl” (Wright) Moore. He married to Gretta Rae Smith on September 30, 1952 in Taylorville, IL and they were later divorced. Then she preceded him in death on September 8, 2005. He later married Ella Mae Burcham and she also preceded him in death. He worked at Seidel Funeral Home in Taylorville, was a miner at Peabody Mine #10, he ran Deep Rock Gas Station in Taylorville, Moore Antenna and TV Service and he retired as the head of security for the State of Texas Hospital. He was also a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict in Anchorage, AK. He was a member of the Taylorville American Legion Post #72, Taylorville Eagles Club, Moose Club, Elks Club and UMWA.

Surviving are his Sons: David (Kathy) Moore of Langleyville, IL; Dean (Dani) Moore of Taylorville, IL; Donald (Laurie) Moore of Taylorville, IL and Derek Moore-Meinert (Jimmy Meinert) of Jacksonville, FL; Daughters: Denise (Darrell) Davis of Taylorville, IL; Debra J. (Robin) Baggerly of Glenarm, IL; Donna (Jerry) Moreland of Taylorville, IL; Eighteen Grandchildren; Sixteen Great-Grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter Jacquelyn Moore, Brothers: Robert E. Moore, Sr. and Phillip Moore in Infancy; Sister: Lydia Bianchetta

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. The funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Sr. Rose McKeown officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with military graveside honors.

Helen C. Porter

 

Helen C. Porter, 91 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 12:55 p.m. at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Springfield. She was born on February 11, 1925 in Stonington, IL the Daughter of Elmer and Minnie (Bliler) Coffey. She married Harold Porter in October of 1947 in Stonington, IL and he later preceded her in death in 1983. She was a member of ATA, Stonington Methodist Church, and the Christian County Homemaker Extension.

Surviving are her sons: Bradley Porter of Springfield, IL, Kenneth (Delores) Porter of Clinton, IL Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Brothers and Sisters, Daughters, Grandchild, Great- Grandchild, and a Daughter -in-law.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Burial will be held in Grove City Cemetery.

Donald E. Nolan

 

Donald E. Nolan, 85, of Taylorville passed away at 6:10am on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in his home. He was born on October 23, 1931 in Taylorville, the son of Edward J. and Elta G. (Buesinger) Nolan. Mr. Nolan attended Bradley University before leaving to join the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On November 22, 1958, he married Mary R. Yonikus at St. Mary’s Church in Assumption. He was a retired farmer and passionate about agriculture. In 1979 Donald served as a wagon master for Illinois during the tractorcade to Washington D.C. for the American Agriculture Movement. He was an original board member for the Illinois Tractor Pulling Association and was well known for competing with his Minneapolis Moline G1000 named “Yellow Fever”. Don was a motorsports enthusiast, especially racing his Triumph motorcycle in the 1950’s and 60’s. Among many other races, he competed in the Springfield Mile and the Peoria Tourist Trophy. In their spare time Mary and Don enjoyed traveling in their RV and loved attending their grandson’s activities, of whom they are very proud. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Nolan of Taylorville; daughter: Kathy (Mike) Drea of Taylorville; grandsons: Nolan Drea of Springfield and Ryan Drea of Chicago; brother: Larry Nolan of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Patty Beyers.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. David Lantz officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 10:30am on Saturday in the church. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School. Larry Gene Ridgeway

 

Larry Gene Ridgeway, 78 of Mt. Auburn passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 11:53 a.m. at his home in Mt. Auburn. He was born on May 27, 1938 in Mt. Auburn, IL the Son of George and Catherine (Kleiber) Ridgeway. He married Mary Humphrey on July 28, 1956 in Mt. Auburn, IL. He served as Mt. Auburns barber for many years; he was a car salesman and a Standard Oil Dealer.

Surviving are his Wife: Mary Ridgeway of Taylorville, IL; Son: David Ridgeway of Denver, CO; Daughters: Rhonda Sebben of Taylorville, IL; Julie LeBeane of Mt. Auburn, IL; Grandchildren: Misty, Zach, Jonas, Mande, Lindsey, Josh, Jayme, Brittany, Michael and Rachel; Many Great-Grandchildren and Several Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Son Danny Ridgeway and Brother Billy Ridgeway.

Hubert L. Coonrod

 

Hubert L. “Shorty” Coonrod, 83 of Morrisonville passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 8:10 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on September 28, 1933 in Roodhouse, IL the Son of Charles and Dorothy (Ruyle) Coonrod. He married Maryann Craig on March 2, 1953 in Carrollton, IL, they had been married for 63 years. He retired from Consolidated Communication after 35 years.

George L. Rechtin

George L. Rechtin Jr., 93, of Taylorville passed away at 5:39am on Friday, October 21, 2016 in his home. He was born on July 2, 1923, the son of George L. Rechtin Sr. and Mildred Carter Rechtin. He married Catherine Holmes on May 20, 1943 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. George attended the University of Arkansas and the University of Oklahoma. He served in the Signal Corps and Army Air Force during WWII. George worked as an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Company. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville where he served as a former Clerk of the Session and an Elder. He previously was active in the Civilian Conservation Corps and enjoyed playing bridge and golf, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.


He is survived by his son: Michael D. (Elisabeth) Rechtin Sr. of Marco Island, Florida; daughter: Kathy A. (John) Coady of Taylorville; grandchildren: Michael (Lee Ann) Rechtin, Tom (Maria) Rechtin, Matthew (Ingrid) Rechtin, Craig (Darcy) Coady, Maureen (Mike) Magnussen, and Andrea (Daniel) Dutt; great grandchildren: Isabella Rechtin, Juliette Rechtin, Lukas Rechtin, Nina Rechtin, Greta Rechtin, Anders Rechtin, Hudson Coady, Grace Coady, Titus Coady, Abraham Coady, and Duncan Coady; sister-in-law: Linda Jenkins Rechtin of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

George was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Jack Rechtin.


Private family burial will take place on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be held from 1pm until the time of service. Military graveside rites will take place following the memorial service. Memorials may be made to the Taylorville Public Library.

Darwin Leon Krueger

Darwin Leon Krueger, 84 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 8:50 p.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born on July 15, 1932 in Beecher City, IL the Son of Leonard and Reba (Shrake) Krueger. He married Sandy Fabicheski on October 11, 1957 in Effingham, IL. He worked as a Boilermaker and pipefitter at Caterpillar. Darwin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean Conflict, aboard the USS Waldron during his service. He was a member of the Taylorville Eagles Club #1425, American Legion Post #73 and VFW Post #4495.

Surviving are his Wife: Sandy of Taylorville, IL; Sons: Darwin B. (Cathy) Krueger of Taylorville, IL; Norman (Catherine) Krueger of Ft. Valley, GA; Daughters: Lorrie Miller of Taylorville, IL; Misty (Dennis) Fisher of Shelbyville, IL; Nine Grandchildren; Four Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Glenna Porter of Taylorville, IL; Brother: Floyd (Mary) Krueger of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Infant Son Joseph Eric Krueger and Brother Dewain Krueger.

Virginia Faye Moomey

 

Virginia Faye Moomey, 81, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away at 10:15pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Moberly Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on July 26, 1935 in Delaney, Arkansas, the daughter of James S. and Arizona (Stacey) Drain. She married Harold Dwaine Moomey on February 5, 1955 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Mrs. Moomey was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles and VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband: Harold Dwaine Moomey of Moberly; daughters: Terry (Timothy) Murrell of St. Louis, Missouri, and Tamara Moomey of Moberly, Missouri; grandchildren: Elissa Murrell, Alison Murrell, Jacob Banning, and Jared Banning; great grandchildren: Isaiah Murrell-Thomas, Sarah Murrell, Emma Banning, Cameron Banning, and McKenzie Banning; sister: Gretta Couch of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 brothers and sisters.

The funeral service for Mrs. Moomey will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Mrs. Penny Moomey officiating. Raymond Tomei

Raymond Tomei, 83 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 4:14 p.m. at Life’s Journey Senior Living Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on January 5, 1933 in Taylorville, IL the Son of August and Anna Sarah (Reber) Tomei. He married Linda B. Childress on June 1, 1957 in Taylorville, IL. He worked as a Machine repair man for Fiat Allis for over 20 years and then later farmed.

He is survived by his Wife Linda of Taylorville, IL; Son David (Phyllis) Tomei of Parker, CO; Sister Judy (Bob) Noreuil of Taylorville, IL; Sister-in-Law Betty Tomei; Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, 1 Sister and 2 brothers.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Owaneco Cemetery in Owaneco, IL with Rev. Tom Belegante officiating.

Donald Lee McVey

 

Donald Lee McVey, age 72, of Sebring FL, but formally of the Morrisonville area, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 11:59 pm at his residence.

 

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Monday October 17 at the 1st Baptist Church in Morrisonville with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am until noon at the church. Burial will be held at the Morrisonville Cemetery.

 

He was born on August 21, 1944 in Taylorville, the son of Joseph and Anna Nolen McVey.

He married Deloris Marie Simmons on March. 28, 1964 she preceded him on Feb. 10, 2010. On August 26, 2011 He married Mary Jane (Walch) Irwin and she survives him.

 

Don was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Morrisonville where he was very active in the past served as Trustee and the Bus Minister for 22 yrs. He was a member of the Moose and enjoyed softball and bocce ball.

 

He was a successful district sales rep for Hoblit Seed Co. for a number of years. In the past, he had also work for Caterpillar, FS and Kaiser. Besides Wife, his mother, Anna McVey of Taylorville survives. Survivors include a son Brad (Sherry) McVey of Bridgeport and 2 sisters Charlotte (Denny) Schum of Nianic, and Mary Jane McVey of Taylorville. 4 grandchildren also survive; Andrew, Caitlyn, Hannah, and Jenifer.

Robert J. Crawford

 

Robert J. Crawford, 91 of South Bend, IN formerly of Taylorville, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 6:53 p.m. at his residence in South Bend, IN. He was born on March 22, 1925 in Taylorville, IL the Son of Robert E and Cecil Frances (Nevins) Crawford. He married Shirley Traylor on May 29, 1946 in Covington, IN and she preceded him in death on June 25, 2007. He worked as a Sales Representative for Chrysler.

Surviving are his Sons: Trig (Laura) T. Crawford, of Henderson, Nevada, Christopher (Jackie) R. Crawford of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Daughters: Diane (Steven) Rhodes, of South Bend, IN, Connie Sharpe of South Bend, IN; Eight Grandchildren; Eleven Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Wife: Shirley, Sisters: Ellenor, Edith, Roceil, Brother: Harry.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with Rev. Michael Evanchek Officiating and military graveside honors. There will be no visitation.

Homer Mink III

 

Homer Mink III, 47 of Owaneco passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 8:53 a.m. at his residence in Owaneco. He was born on November 23, 1968 in Taylorville, IL the Son of Homer Dan and Sharon Pha (McKinney) Mink II. He married Rebecca L. “Becky” Wilson on March 18, 1989 in Owaneco. He worked as a Farmer. Homer loved to ride his Harley, he was a loving Husband, a great dad and grandpa.
