Gus Dulakis, Jr.

Mr. Gus Dulakis, Jr., 75, of Tovey, IL passed from this life at 3:32 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2022, in Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Gus was born in Taylorville, IL on Tuesday, September 30, 1946, the son of Gus and Hattie (Bouvet) Dulakis, Sr.

Mr. Dulakis attended Tovey Grade School and South Fork High School. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 to 1968. He married Marilyn Funk on April 3, 1971, in Springfield, IL.

Gus was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, and the Edwin Corpin American Legion Post #905, both in Kincaid, IL. Gus had been an active volunteer for many years with the South Fork Sports Boosters. Mr. Dulakis retired after many years of service with the State of Illinois, working at both the State Garage in Springfield and the ISP Training Facility in Pawnee.

Gus enjoyed cooking and sharing his recipes; and he thoroughly enjoyed visiting his grandchildren.

Gus is survived by three sons; Steve ( Kelly) Dulakis of Kincaid, IL., Mike (Wendy) Dulakis of Kincaid, IL., Dave (Amie) Dulakis of Chatham, IL., and a daughter Karen ( Dustin) Schlindwein of Pawnee, IL., 8 grandchildren Jordan (Abby) Jackson, Markus Dulakis, Makayla Dulakis, Austin Tryon, Grace Dulakis, Taylor Schlindwein, Nora Schlindwein, Anna Schlindwein, one great grandson, Maverick Jackson, a brother, James ( Rae) Dulakis of Morrisonville, IL., two sisters, Cynthia Harrison of Tovey, IL. and Rose (Bobby) Ginger of Danvers, IL., along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sister- in- laws, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, as well as his parents.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 4th at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid. Visitation for Mr. Gus Dulakis, Jr., will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4th. Monsignor David Lantz will officiate. Burial will take place in Horse Creek Cemetery, Pawnee, IL. Monica F. Grant

Monica F. Grant, 93, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:12 a.m. on Wednesday,

March 23, 2022 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Monica was born June 13, 1928 in Stonington, the last surviving child of 13 children to the late Charles Thomas and Mary Bertha (Sims) Clark. She married George T. Fromm on September 10, 1946. To that union two children were born, Monica and Michael. George preceded her in death on January 9, 1980. She then married William Thomas Grant, Sr. on October 10, 1981. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2001.

Monica worked for over 30 years as a teller for the First National Bank of Pana. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was active in the Catholic Daughters of America. Monica was also a member of the Taylorville Garden Club and Christian County Lady Landowners. In her free time, Monica enjoyed flower gardening.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael D. Fromm; step-sons, William Grant, Jr. and Terry Grant; and step-grandson, William Grant III.

Monica is survived by her daughter, Monica (husband, Harry) Richards of Decatur; grandchildren, Amanda Clark, Amy Richards, and Michael D. Fromm, Jr.; 14 great grandchildren; step-son, Brooks Grant of Taylorville; step-grandchildren, Gina Tesio, Shawn Grant, Todd Grant, Heather Bertauski, and Robin Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation & Funeral Mass: The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 1, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 108 W. Adams St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz as celebrant. The funeral luncheon will follow mass.

Interment will follow the luncheon at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

Norris C. Hill

Norris C. Hill, 79, of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on February 13, 1943 in Lemons, MO, the son of Walter and Mildred (Moore) Hill. He married Rebecca Gilpin on April 10, 1976 in Taylorville, IL.  He worked as a Coal Miner at Peabody Mine and Coffeen Mine. Norris also worked as an Electrician and for Therma Gas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. Norris was a woodworker and made many pieces for family and friends. He loved to hunt and fish and was involved in many different community activities.


He is survived by his Wife: Rebecca Hill of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Cheri (Ben) Harrison of Springfield, IL; Amanda (Ben) Gaddis of Taylorville, IL and Becky (Lance) Oelmann of Des Moins, IA; Grandchildren: Kaylin and Lauren Harrison; Isaac, Ollie and Milly Gaddis; Sophia Ward, Gracelyn Gaddis and Max and Will Oelmann; Brother: Willis Hill of Ottumwa, IA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Janice Wikoff and a brother: Donnie Jeff in infancy. 

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating, Military Honors and United Mine Workers services.

Daniel "Danny" Puccetti

Mr. Daniel “Danny” Puccetti, 75, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life surrounded by family at home Monday, March 21, 2022.


He was born in Taylorville, IL Thursday, December 19, 1946 the son of Jimmy and Phyllis (Riva) Puccetti. 


Mr. Puccetti graduated in the South Fork High School class of 1965.  He worked at the Coal Mine before being drafted into the U.S. Army, honorably serving in Vietnam.  Upon his discharge he went back to work for the Coal Mine for another 9 years.  Danny then began a 50 year career farming with Dambacher-Puccetti Farms.  He was a lifetime member of the Edwin Corpin American Legion Post #905 in Kincaid.


Surviving are: his fiancée Cindy Blair of Kincaid, IL., 2 daughters Stacy (husband Vernon) Foli of Chatham, IL., Jamie (husband Tim) Durbin of Taylorville, IL., 2 sons Dan (wife Courtney) Puccetti, Jeff (Molly Delich) Puccetti all of Kincaid, IL., 8 grandchildren Hannah, Haley, Clark, Tucker, Colton, Cambelle, Prima, Acre along with a sister Dena (Pete) Lancaster and many nephews, cousins and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Visitation for Mr. Daniel Puccetti will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 a.m. Friday March 25, 2022 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  A memorial service will immediately follow with Rev. Chad Foster officiating.  Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Pawnee, IL.   Memorial contributions may be made to his family and will be designated at a later date or to the donor’s choice.  Memories and condolences may also be shared at mastersonfh.com and will be forwarded to Mr. Puccetti’s family.  

Robert "Bobby" W. Herpstreith

Robert “Bobby” W. Herpstreith, 54, of Taylorville, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL.  He was born on June 5, 1967 in Hillsboro, IL the son of Merle and Patricia (Durbin) Herpstreith. Bobby graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1985 and he worked in maintenance at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL.


He is survived by his daughter: Michaela Lynn Herpstreith of Taylorville, IL, mother: Pat Herpstreith of Owaneco, IL, brothers: Richard Herpstreith and Companion Carla Hoffman of Witt, IL; Kevin (Patti) Herpstreith of Nokomis, IL; Jim Herpstreith of Mt. Olive, IL; Charlie (Cindy) Herpstreith of Taylorville, IL, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bobby was preceded in death by his father Merle, Brothers: David Herpstreith, and Gary Herpstreith and Sister: Susan Patrick-Shears.


Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Interment will be immediately following the funeral service at Buckeye Cemetery in rural Owaneco, IL with Monsignor David Lantz officiating.

Norma Jean Allison

Norma Jean Allison, 93 of Decatur, IL formerly of Taylorville passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 2:29 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. She was born on March 12, 1929 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Samuel Lawrence and Etta (Freese) Ellinger. She married George Sams on April 16, 1948 in the First Baptist Church in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1984.  She then married Harold Allison on July 29, 1992 in Las Vegas, NV. Norma worked at the Christian County Court House, St. Vincent’s Memorial Hospital and McDonalds in Taylorville. She loved to make stained glass and she loved to play the gambling machines.  


She is survived by her Husband Harold Allison of Decatur, IL; Daughter: Jenneth (Phil) Doyle of Macon, IL; Sons: George A. Sams of Taylorville, IL; Donald (Patty) Sams of Taylorville, IL; Mark (Cindy) Sams of Taylorville, IL; Step-Son: Gary (Gloria) Allison of Decatur, IL; Eleven Grandchildren; Six Step-Grandchildren; Twenty Great-Grandchildren Three Great-Great Granddaughters and 1 on the way. She is also survived by her Sisters: JoAnn McCormick of Taylorville, IL, Peggy (Lester) Fabicheski of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Daughters: Carole McMillon, and Tenneal Lunsford, Step-Daughter: Carol Finley, Great-Granddaughter: Grace Elizabeth Sams, Brothers: Lawrence, Robert and Donald Ellinger. 


Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 10:00-12:00 Noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 12:00 Noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Sue Spencer

Sue Spencer, 79, of Coal City, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Morris Hospital in Morris.


Sue was born July 6, 1942 in Taylorville, the daughter of Charles and Pauline (DeSelms) Brown.  She married Lyle R. Spencer on September 2, 1967 in Taylorville.  He preceded her in death on May 20, 2011.
Sue graduated from Morrisonville High School with the Class of 1960, and went to work as a bookkeeper with Liberty Mutual for over 25 years. Sue was a past-member of Davis Memorial Christian Church, where she was active in the Christian Women.  She enjoyed sewing, garage sales, picking her guitar, and reading, but Sue enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren the most.


She was also preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Kristi L. Spencer.


Sue is survived by her daughter, Sherrell (husband, Ric) Trulock of Braidwood; granddaughters, Megan Post of Morris, and Nicole Trulock of Braidwood; great granddaughter, Jaclyn Post; siblings, Marilyn (husband, John) Munroe of Jacksonville, FL, Ron (wife, Minnie) Brown of Maunie, IL, and Karen (husband, David) Baker of Murphysboro, TN; special nieces, Jackie (husband, Dan) Foil, and Angie (husband, Jerry) Watson; and numerous other nieces and nephews.


Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Don Beetem officiating.  


Private family burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Karen D. Moreland

Karen D. Moreland, 66 of Assumption, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 12:21 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on May 23, 1955 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Walter and Goldie (Elben) Tumiati. She married Phil Moreland on July 21, 1973 in Stonington, IL. Karen was a homemaker and she enjoyed taking girls trips, racing and most of all, she loved her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.


She is survived by her Husband: Phil Moreland of Assumption, IL, Daughters: Tara (Mike) Wiseman of Taylorville, IL, Stacey (Nick) Bauman of New Berlin, IL, Sons: Phillip (Amy) Moreland of Taylorville, IL, Nathan (Fiance Robin) Moreland of Assumption, IL, Grandchildren: Trista and Jake Wiseman, Shelby and Zach Cohn, Tyler Moreland, Hanna and Carson Bauman, Madelyn, Ella and Wyatt Moreland, Evan, Beau and Luke Moreland, Sam and Logan Jenkins, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, brother: Jeff Tumiati of Stonington, IL and Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Walter and Greg Tumiati.

Jack Lee Armstrong

Jack Lee Armstrong, 83 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 in his home.  He was born on July 2, 1938 in Taylorville, the son of Joseph Roy Armstrong Sr. and Catherine Helvetia (Bryles) Armstrong.  Jack worked for several years as a custodian at the Christian County Extension Center.  He had a very strong faith and was active with several churches throughout the years.  Jack enjoyed reading the bible and studying his faith, and he never passed up the opportunity to share his faith with family and friends.  
He is survived by his children: Cheryl Clevenger (Edward) of Morrisonville and Shawn Armstrong (Barbie) of Carrollton, Texas; grandchildren: Bruce Clevenger, Misty Clevenger, Dakota Clevenger, Christian Armstrong, Ian Armstrong, Olivia Armstrong, and Haiden Armstrong; great grandchildren: Whisper Mizeur, Cameron Clevenger, Karley Clevenger, Peyton Behnke, and Quin Clevenger; and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Betty Brown; brother: Joseph Armstrong Jr.; 1 niece and nephews.

George DeWilde

George DeWilde, 61, of Sullivan, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 10:44 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Eastview Terrace Nursing Home in Sullivan.


George was born September 14, 1960, in Taylorville, the son of Joseph and Julia (Wood) DeWilde.  He graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1978, and then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. George then attended Shawnee Community College technical school, to study HVAC repair.  He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and listening to rock and roll, especially Rush and Steely Dan. George especially enjoyed the time he spent with his nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


George is survived by his brothers, John (wife, Arlene) DeWilde of Lincoln, and James (companion, Sharon) DeWilde of Edwardsville; and step-sister, Lu Anne (husband, Bob) Stone of Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.


A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer.

Kristina P. Mercer

Kristina P. Mercer, 50, of Pana, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 5:10p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana. She was born on May 1, 1971 in Sangamon County, the daughter of Clifford Allen and Margaret L. (Turner) Porter. She married Glynn Mercer in Madison County, Illinois. Kristina worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several area nursing homes and most recently worked at Sunkist Drycleaners in Taylorville. She was previously a member of Grace Memorial Church in Edinburg. Kristina dearly loved her family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with them.

 

She is survived by her husband: Glynn Mercer of Pana; daughter: Kristal Fry (James) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Carson Fry and Karter Fry; brother: Patrick Porter of Decatur; aunts: Jean Steele of Palmer and Mary Porter of Taylorville; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Kristina will be cremated, and the family will host a celebration of life on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 2:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. at the American Legion, 110 W. Franklin St., Taylorville. Marie Beatrice Fouts

Marie Beatrice Fouts, 94 of Taylorville, passed away at 9:30a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on May 4, 1927, in Bunker Hill, the daughter of Edward Albert and Maude May (Stinnett) Smith. She married Louis H. Fouts on December 6, 1945, in Bunker Hill, and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2005. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid as well as the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She worked for many years in the cafeterias of several local schools. Marie was a fabulous cook and used her talents in service at her church by providing her famous pumpkin dessert and dressing and countless meals throughout the years. She enjoyed bowling and playing golf.

 

She is survived by her children: Judy Stiverson of Pana and Bruce Fouts of Taylorville; grandchildren: Rev. B.J. Fouts (Jessica) of Battle Creek, Nebraska, Johnna Fouts of Taylorville, and Becky Stone of Pana; great grandchildren: Sheena Shanks of Pana, Samantha Lewis (Justin) of Moweaqua, Ashley Ginger of Pana, Alexander Shanks of Springfield, and Hannah, Nathanael, Abigail, and Elisabeth “Lizzy” Fouts all of Battle Creek, Nebraska; 10 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: James Lee Fouts (Janice); 2 brothers, 2 sisters, a half-brother, and half-sister.

 

The funeral service for Marie will take place at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville with Rev. Rodney Blomquist officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church. Helen Petty

Helen Petty, 97, of Nokomis, IL passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 8:06 a.m. at Montgomery County Health Care Center in Taylor Springs, IL. She was born on November 1, 1924 in Montgomery County, IL, the daughter of Fred and Ruby (Poteet) Bolte. She married Donald Hilton Petty on November 15, 1943 in St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death on June 28, 2014. Helen worked in the family business her entire life and she was a proud member of the Nokomis United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her Sons: Joe (Kathy) Petty of Hillsboro, IL; Dennis Petty and Companion Jan of Witt, IL; Jerry (Sue) Petty of Palm Bay, FL; John (Mary) Petty of Nokomis; Rodney (Susan) Petty of Taylorville, IL; Randy (Penny) Petty of Nokomis and Chris Petty of Nokomis, Grandchildren: Shelly Karcher, Brandon Petty, Robin Petty, Jill (Tom) Flynn, Michelle (Mike) Miles, Amanda Keele, Sarah (Nick) Petty, Jessica (Derek) Durbin, Dalton Petty, Kyra Petty, Great-Grandchildren: 14, Brother: William Bolte of Nokomis, IL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. James A. Durbin

James A. Durbin, 55 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 2:12 a.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on August 14, 1966 in Taylorville, IL the son of James Oliver and Elsie Mae (Tirey) Durbin. He married Cheryl Torbeck on July 1, 2006 in Taylorville, IL. He worked as a welder at GSI in Assumption, IL. James loved riding his Harley and spending time with family having cookouts.

 

He is survived by his Wife: Cheryl Durbin of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Alicia Moyer of Pana, IL; Sons: Alex Durbin of Niantic, IL; Brandon Durbin of Pana, IL; Eight Grandchildren; Mother: Elsie Durbin of Taylorville, IL; Sisters: Renee (Steve) Moran of Taylorville, IL, Tina (Lewis) Shanks of Taylorville, IL; Sister-in-Law: Shannon Gatton of Taylorville, IL; Brother-in-Law Rick Torbeck of Pana, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his dad and several aunts and Uncles.

 

James will be cremated and the family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Leota J. Stanley, 88 of Stonington passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 9:55 p.m. at her home in Stonington, IL. She was born on February 24, 1933 in Illiopolis, IL the daughter of Elmer and Frieda (Stanton) Ray. She married Dale Stanley on March 25, 1951 in Kincaid, IL. She worked at the Telephone Company as an operator, Sewing Factory in Kincaid, Borg Warner and she had in home child care business for several years.

 

She is survived by her Husband: Dale Stanley of Stonington, IL; Daughters: Pamela (Patrick) Hancock of Taylorville, IL; Lori (Mike) McChristy of Mt. Zion, IL and Tonya (Ronnie) Gatons of Herrick, IL; Sons: Don Stanley (Tracy Ward) of Stover, MO; Eleven Grandchildren; Fourteen Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Phyllis Bouvet of Columbia, MO; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Jack Ray and Mike Ray, Twin Sister: Leona Isaacs and Sister: Bonnie Houston.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 11:00-12:00 Noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 12:00 Noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Jason Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.

Marilyn Marie (Corpin) Ariana

Mrs. Marilyn Marie (Corpin) Ariana, age 96, of Kincaid, IL received her angel wings on March 3, 2022, when she passed away at HSHS St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.


She was born on August 6, 1925, at home in Jeisyville, IL the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Kohler) Corpin, Sr.  She married James Joseph Ariana, Jr. on June 8, 1947, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL.  He preceded her in death April 4, 2017.


Marilyn graduated from South Fork Community High School and before marrying Jim, she worked for the Baietto family at their neighborhood grocery store People’s Market.  After they married and their daughter Linda arrived, she became a full-time mother and homemaker.


Marilyn loved to garden, sharing her bounty with neighbors and friends, and was most proud of her prize-winning garlic.  She was a diehard Cubs fan who often visited her grandson in Chicago and attended games at Wrigley Field.  Her and Jim were thrilled they were able to see the Cubs Win the World Series in 2016.


She was a lifelong member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, the Edwin Corpin American Legion Post #905 Women’s Auxiliary (named after her brother who was killed in World War II). She and Jim were the longest serving members of the Post both receiving membership awards for exceeding 70 years of service.


She is survived by her daughter Linda Constant of Springfield, IL., her grandson Aaron Miller (Rob Sabetto) of Chicago, IL., her nieces Dolores Hay, Patti (Jim) Peterson of Sorento, IL., Mary Lou Austin of Hillsboro, IL., and her nephews John (Cathy) Corpin of Nokomis, IL., Sam Corpin of Seward, Alaska and Robert Corpin of Anchorage, Alaska sister-in-law Norma Bourlard nephew David (Denise) Bourlard both of Kincaid, IL, and special friends Roscoe and Lauri Kirchhoff, Brad and Angie Mansfield, Louie Selzer, Joe Halbert, Linda Blessman, Karen Smothers, Kathy Bowman, and Lucia Pellinghelli along with several great nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by husband, parents, brothers (Andrew and Edwin) a sister and brother Evelyn and Edward who both died in infancy and a nephew Andy Corpin.


Visitation will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL from 9 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 12, 2022, with Funeral Mass immediately following at 11:00 A.M.  Monsignor David Lantz will officiate.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.  A meal will take place after the services at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid.

Phillip Benjamin Conrath

Mr. Phillip Benjamin Conrath, 68, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 8:33 P.M. Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.


He was born in Taylorville, IL on May 26, 1953 the son of Lawrence and Marcheta (Vickery) Conrath.
Mr. Conrath was a retired coal miner.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially riding around Kincaid on his Kubota tractor visiting his friends.  Phillip grew up in the Catholic faith.


Surviving are: his daughter Kelly (husband Gary) Moore, a grandson Clayton Benjamin Moore and his ex wife Joyce Baird all of Centralia, MO., siblings Sandy (Gary) Wright of Cape Coral, FL., Kim (David) Puccetti of Taylorville, IL., Mike (Linda) Conrath of Kincaid, IL., Keith (Gerri) Conrath of Taylorville, IL., several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special helper – caregiver, whom he thought of as a daughter Wendy (Isaacs) Dulakis of Kincaid, IL.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Stacey Groves, in 2002.


Cremation rites have been accorded.

Mardell Meredith

Mardell E. Davis-Meredith, 87, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:14 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2022, atTaylorville Memorial Hospital.


Mardell was born December 21, 1934 in Petersburg, the daughter of Lee and Evaline (Tate) Darnell. She graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1952.  Later that year, Mardell married her first husband Donald Edward Davis, Sr. in the fall. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1976.  Mardell then married William K. Meredith, and he preceded her in death on September 29, 1998.


Mardell was employed by many places, including the Taylorville Schools, Sherman’s and Penny’s Department Stores, and Seidel and Shaw’s Furniture, which later became Shaw Furniture Gallery.  She was also a past board member for the Christian County Mental Health Association in Taylorville.  Mardell enjoyed baking, country music, and occasional trips to Nashville North.  She was devoted to her family, and her beloved dog, Max.


She was also preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Charles, James, Dale, and Truman Darnell.


Mardell is survived by her sons, Donald “Ed” (wife, Denise) Davis, Jr. of Orlando, FL, and John Davis of Taylorville; grandchildren, Angela (Jeremy) Harrison of Archer, FL, and Pamela Davis of Orlando, FL; 3 great grandsons; special nephews, Dana Darnell of Pana, and Don Darnell of Chicago; and special niece, Nancy McCarthy of Bend, OR.


Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Chad Zueck officiating.

 
Inurnment will follow the ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Alma Rae McKinney

Alma Rae “Rae-Rae” McKinney 85, of Harristown, IL passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 8:40 a.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. She was born on July 27, 1936 in Harristown Township, the daughter of Emery and Lola (Hendrix) Krall. She married Paul McKinney on July 24, 1954 in Harristown, IL. Alma was a homemaker her entire life and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Barbara Frances Damery

Barbara Frances Damery, 92 of Taylorville, passed away at 6:40a.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 25, 1929 in Taylorville, the daughter of Patrick and Helena (Klassen) Galbraith. She married Kenneth Damery on June 27, 1964 in Alton and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2013. Before staying home to raise her children, she worked at the GE factory in Decatur. Barb was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Midland United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the CD of A and volunteered at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital. Family was very important to Barb. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and marathon shopping trips with her best friend, Joyce Cox. She also enjoyed occasional trips to gamble. She was known by her family for her driving skills and flying up and down the Langleyville Road. Barb never passed up an opportunity to get out of the house, especially for a meal with her family. Whether it was onions or hasbrown, she would always take a little extra, and never passed up a chance for dessert.

 

She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Watson, Debbie Prince (Bill), and Mona Ahrendt all of Taylorville and son: Jon Damery of Plano; grandchildren: Bill Wilkinson (Laura), Kenna Bertoldo (Brian), Jeremy Ahrendt (Colleen), Dee Ann Wright, Becky Wicker (Zach Smith), Jonni Damery, Jay Damery, Chance Damery (Destiny Gill), and Sophie Damery; and great grandchildren: Brady Wilkinson (Breanne), Bailey Wilkinson, Taylor Ahrendt, Kayden Ahrendt, Jett Damery, Delaney Bertoldo, Brian Bertoldo, and Kayden Damery. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant children: Roberta Jeannene and Kenny D.; sisters: Marie “Reedee” Ballion and Particia Moss (Bernard) and son-in-law: Ed Ahrendt.

 

The family will host a celebration of life at 4:00p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, and a meal will follow. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Rebecca Sue McPeek

Rebecca Sue “Becky” McPeek, 67, of Decatur, formerly of Taylorville, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.  She was born on September 17, 1954 in Taylorville.  She married William R. McPeek on August 27, 1976 in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2015.  Becky worked as a nurse at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville and later at Decatur Memorial Hospital.  She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by her children: Misty Barlow, husband Terry, of Decatur, Chad McPeek, wife Robyn of Decatur, and Jared McPeek, wife Tara, of Assumption; grandchildren: Dominique McPeek, Jasmine Guzzie, Nykolas McPeek, William McPeek, Zane Barlow, Makayla McPeek, and Tyler McPeek; and brothers: Brian Basil and Brett Basil.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Shirley Basil; brother: Terry Basil; and granddaughter: Alexus McPeek.
