Margie Rose Orlandini

 
Margie Rose Orlandini, 74, of Taylorville passed away at 3:04 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on April 22, 1943 in Taylorville, the daughter of Hugo H. and Kathryn P. (Willman) Orlandini.  Margie worked many years at the Christian County Mental Health Association.  She enjoyed competing in Special Olympics, dancing, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini sports.  
 
Margie is survived by her brother: Hugo H. Orlandini Jr. of Taylorville; sister: Mary Jo Hill (Danny) of Taylorville; and cousins: Donna Castelli and Natalie Smith (Bill) both of Taylorville, Nick Orlandini (Carol) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Diane Miller (Jack) of Springfield.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  
 
A funeral mass for Margie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. Joyce J. Waud

Joyce J. Waud, 79, of Taylorville passed away Dec. 23, 2017 at Evelyn House in Creve Coure Mo. with her family by her side.  She was born Apr. 18, 1938 the eldest daughter of Keith and Maxine Johnson. She married William J. Waud, June 4, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. Joyce received her nursing degree in 1959 from St. John’s School of Nursing.  She was employed as a surgical nurse for both St Johns Hospital and Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She also served as the President of the Association of Registered Nurses (AORN) for numerous years. In the mid 70’s, Joyce took a break from nursing, to be a stay at home mom and raise her children.  In 1985 she went back to work for the State of Illinois as an inspector and accreditor of hospital and nursing homes for the Dept. of Public Health, she did this until her retirement.

 

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her children, and grand children.  She loved animals of all types (especially her dogs), watching professional sports, and participated in many organizations and charities. she also loved Christmas, it was her favorite time of year, it wasn’t uncommon for her to decorate up to 7 Christmas trees in the home, for the holiday season.

 

Joyce is survived by her husband, William J. Waud Sr.,  son, William J. Waud Jr. (John McDermand) of Kincaid, Daughters, Tracy Marsh of Taylorville,  Jill Richards (Jerry) of St. Augustine Florida,  Carrie Behl (Arthur) of Taylorville, and  Tricia Waud of New Berlin.  Nine grand children, Chaning and Aundrea Marsh,  Gage, Jarrod, Darrian, and Jade Richards,  Zachary and Megan Behl,  Tayler Waud and four great grand children.  Sisters, Mary DeRose (Ralph) and Kris Seper (Dennis).  Cousins, Sharman Klinfelder, and Sheryl Sauer.  Sister in law, Judith Gardner (Dr. Jerry) and several niece and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved Aunt Joyce and Uncle Bob Sauer and grandparents.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL.  Deacon Jim Baxter and Fr. Chris will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church. Burial will follow in Edinburg Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s School, Taylorville, IL – St’ John’s School of Nursing Springfield, IL or St. Judes Childrens hospital, Memphis, TN. Charles R. Ferrill

Charles R. Ferrill, 66, of Morrisonville, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:10 a.m., at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

 

Charlie was born April 9, 1951 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Kenneth and Mary (Cummins) Ferrill. He married Pat Donaldson on December 4, 1971 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, IL.

 

Charlie graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1969, where he was the long-time, record holder for points, scoring 46, and rebounds, nabbing 38, in a single game. While in high school, he worked for Stewart’s IGA and Ward Contractors. Following high school, Charlie completed a technical degree at the United Electronics Institute in Louisville, KY. He then worked for Lowry Electronics in Chicago for six months, eventually leaving, because he missed the outdoors. Charlie returned home to be a full-time contractor at Ward Contractors. He would move on to partner with his father, and eventually become owner of Ferrill Builders until the time of his death.

 

Charlie was raised in the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, and attended St. Maurice Catholic Church with his family. He was a past president of the Morrisonville School Board and PMRA. He volunteered as a Little League coach for many years, and won the “God and Country” award as a boy scout. Charlie was a fun-loving, generous, family first friend to all. He enjoyed fireworks, impromptu road trips with Pat, mowing his baseball field, and tending to his goldfish pond. Charlie was an avid Chicago Cubs and Mohawk sports fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and attending all of his grandchildren’s extracurricular events

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Ferrill; nephew, Jeff Masters; and niece, Kim Maxell.

 

Charlie is survived by his wife, Pat Ferrill of Morrisonville, IL; daughter, Carrie Young of Decatur, IL; son, Mark (wife, Lela) Ferrill of Morrisonville, IL; grandsons, Jamie, Landon, and Isaac Ferrill, and Ben Young; granddaughters, Macie and Kendyl Ferrill; brothers, Rev. Jim (wife, Helen) Ferrill of Butler, IL, David (wife, Christina) Ferrill of Morrisonville, IL, and John (wife, Rose) Ferrill of Morrisonville, IL; sisters, Anita (husband, Dave) Gross of Decatur, IL, Pat (husband, Larry) Masters of Blue Mound, IL, and Kathy (husband, Keith) Vickers of Pawnee, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546.

 

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 217 at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 706 SE 4th St., Morrisonville, IL 62546 with Rev. Gerald Bunse, celebrant.

 

Interment will follow the funeral mass at St. Maurice Cemetery in Morrisonville, IL.

JoAnn Plopper

JoAnn Plopper, 75, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at her home.

 

JoAnn was born October 5, 1942 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Tony and Nellie (Cummings) Rockford. She married William M. Plopper October 19, 1963 in Morrisonville, IL.

 

JoAnn attended Taylorville High School, and then proudly served her country in the United States Army. She would then serve as the EMT Coordinator for Morrisonville Ambulance, as well as working as a CNA at Taylorville Care Center and St. Vincent’s Memorial Hospital for many years. JoAnn was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, where she was a member of the Faithful Friends. She was a past member of the Eagles Club in Taylorville. JoAnn was a dog lover, and enjoyed reading the bible daily. She also loved camping, spending time on facebook, and listening to the Bee Gee’s.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Cody Plopper; her sisters, Carol Epperson and Linda Rockford; and her brother, Robert Rockford.

 

JoAnn is survived by her husband, William M. Plopper of Taylorville, IL; her children, William J. (wife, Terri) Plopper of Harristown, IL, Christina (husband, David) Ferrill of Morrisonville, IL, Michael (wife, Beth) Plopper of Palmer, IL, Lisa (husband, David) Niles of Waterville, NY, and Dusti (companion, Joseph Dickhaut) of New Baden, IL; fifteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

In accordance with JoAnn’s wishes, cremation will be accorded, and no public ceremonies will be held. Inurnment will be scheduled at a later date at Morrisonville Cemetery.

John P. McAvoy, Sr.

John P. McAvoy Sr., 90 of Taylorville passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 24, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his loving children.  He was born on November 6, 1927 in Stonington, the son of John P. and Anna E. (O’Neill) McAvoy.  On June 11, 1951 he married Teresa G. Clark at St. Mary’s Church in Taylorville.  John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  John was a Navy Veteran, serving during WWII.  In 2013, along with his son, John, he took part in a Land of Lincoln Honor Flight with his fellow veterans.  He retired as a machinist from Caterpillar.   John always kept very active, even in his retirement years.  John and Teresa worked for many years as tour guides for Classic Adventures, and later JD Transit, a job they truly loved.  John spent many hours volunteering for many organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.  Throughout the years John has also worked as the Steward for the UAW hall in Decatur, club manager at the VFW, and as the Christian County Tax Assessor.  More than anything, John loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

 

John is survived by his sons: John McAvoy, Jr. of Chatham and Joe McAvoy of Taylorville; daughter: Jane Sim of Taylorville; 5 grandchildren: Amy Leverenz of Divernon, Lisa Rome of Ballwin, Missouri, Jessica McAvoy, Ashley McAvoy, and Ryan McAvoy all of Chatham; 4 great grandchildren: Aiden Rome of Ballwin, Missouri, Tayler Leverenz, Hannah Leverenz, and Molly Leverenz all of Divernon; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters: Sara Sebastian, Bea Young, and Mary Emerson.

 

A funeral mass for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Fr. Amiel "Moe" Matthew Bialas

Amiel “Moe” Matthew Bialas, 91 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at 4:44 a.m. at his home in Taylorville surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 18, 1926 in Tovey, IL the Son of Antoni and Antonia (Kozseba) Bialas. Moe grew up in Tovey and graduated from Kincaid High School.  Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, being stationed in California, a good deal of his time. He was a coal miner for Peabody Mine # 8 and 10.  Dad enjoyed fishing, bowling, gaming, growing, canning vegetables and socializing in Local Establishments. He collected coins and stamps and was an avid Cubs fan.  Go Cubbies!  He enjoyed boating, football and baseball games. He loved Puzzles. While in high school, he played basketball, was on the debate team and the staff of the yearbook.
Surviving are his Sons: Bret (Sandie) Bialas of Taylorville, IL; Bart and (Martha) Bialas of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Sherry (Robert) Cherry of Bird City, KS, Kathleen Bialas of Taylorville, IL; six Grandchildren; Four Great-Grandchildren; Brother: Eddie Bialas of Taylorville, IL; Sister: Rose Coady of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother: John Bialas and Nephew: Dan Bialas.

Lloyd "Bubs" Best

Lloyd “Bubs” Best, 94 of Springfield formerly of Edinburg passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on May 13, 1923 in Gillespie, IL the Son of Walter H. and Vura (Phipps) Best. He married Mardell Emmings on October 26, 1947 in Springfield, IL. He worked as an agent and Telegrapher for the B&O Railroad in Edinburg and Taylorville. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the 18th Airborne in the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving are his Wife Mardell Best of Springfield, IL; Son: Lee (Karen) Best of Decatur, IL; Daughter: Lynn (Tim) Connelly of Glenarm, IL; Grandchildren: Christine (Zach) Britton, Heather (Joe) Sawyer, Shannon Connelly and Brian Connelly; Great-Grandchildren: Rachel, Rylee, Eli, Jacob, Trenton, Camden; two Nieces and Several Cousins.  He was preceded in death by his Parents and Sister: Rosemary Bard.

Carroll Leroy Law

Carroll Leroy Law, 78 of Owaneco passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:52 a.m. at his residence in Owaneco. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Lakewood, IL the Son of Herbert and Edith (Askins) Law. He married Connie Hodge on June 27, 1965 in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on December 23, 1980; he then married Lorretta Teter-Ostermeier on March 5, 1983 in Owaneco, IL. He retired as a paper maker at Georgia Pacific after 27 years after he served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Carroll belonged to the Liars Coffee Club of Owaneco and he was an avid Cardinal and Illini Fan.

Thomas "Tommy" A. Huston, Sr.

Thomas (Tommy) A. Huston Sr., 91 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017
at 1:25 p.m. at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville. He was born on August 10, 1926 in
Stonington, IL the Son of William and Christina (Durbin) Huston. He married Pauline C. Dowdy on November 18, 1950 in Palmer, IL and she preceded him in death on December 22, 1983 and then he married Arlene Lehmann LaRue and she also preceded him in death. He retired from the United States Navy in 1964 after 20 years of service. He later retired from Northside Veterinary Clinic in Taylorville.


Surviving are his Sons: Michael (Ginger) Huston of Kila, MT; Thomas (Donna) Huston Jr. of
Edinburg, IL; Daughters: Deborah (Robert) Williamson of Edinburg, IL; Connie Parks of
Coffeen , IL; Eleven Grandchildren : Michael Huston Jr., Matthew Huston, Randall Huston,
Sherri Sanders, Carrie Gorden, Richard Bingham, Stephanie Leseure, Derrick Williamson,
Robert Williamson, Taylor Williamson, and Crystal Graves, twenty-five Great-Grandchild ren,
and one great-great-grandchild ; Sister: Irene Myers of Moweaqua, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews
and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, both wives, Brothers: Kenneth, William
and Donald Huston.


Thomas loved to dance and he loved to play basketball. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan
and was ecstatic that he was able to watch their World Series win. He loved to travel, spend time
with family and watch the Cubs’ games. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his
ability to make people laugh, and his fun-loving ways.


It was Thomas’s wishes to be cremated and have no services. Inurnment will be held at a later
date in Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL.

Billie Ann Houghland

Billie Ann Houghland, 64 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 10:55 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. She was born on April 15, 1953 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of William and Jean (Flor) Karmazinas.
Surviving are her Daughter: Stacey Perez of Bulpitt, IL; Granddaughter: Alyson Perdue of Bulpitt, IL; Sister: Vicki Belsher of Florida; Brother: Carl Sciarini of Taylorville, IL; Nieces: Jean Ann Oller of Taylorville, IL; Casaundra Neff of Springfield, IL; Makenzie Oller of Taylorville, IL and Several Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents and her Niece Jamie Lynn Belsher.

Bill G. Olenski

Bill G. Olenski, 83, passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on October 9, 1934 in Kincaid, the son of Zygmunt and Sophie (Truskowski) Olenski. He married Billie J Yost on June 23, 1962 in Pawnee. Bill retired from the FBI in Springfield after 39 years of service. Over the years he enjoyed gardening, yard work, and could repair anything. Above all he was a devoted grandfather.

He is survived by his wife: Billie J. Olenski; son: Robert G. Olenski (Karen); daughter: Kristi Olenski (Mark Gesell); grandchildren: Ryan Olenski, Brentyn Olenski, Arynne Olenski, Roman Olenski-Gesell, and Asher Olenski-Gesell; niece: Shauna Beeman-Kalaskie (Mike); and 2 great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild: Ashton Olenski; and sister: Judy Beeman.

Mr. Olenski will be cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation in his name. Marlena "Marlene" Rose Gartshore

Marlena “Marlene” Rose Gartshore, 69 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:05 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on February 18, 1948 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of George and Marcella (Durbin) Bresh. Marlene retired from diet workshop and Walmart.

Surviving are her Daughters: Jeana Lynn (Steven) Lomprez of Taylorville, IL; Tina Marie (Brad) Chamness of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: April Barker, Jesse Barker, Alex Bunting, Ben Lomprez- Thompson, Alyssa Bunting; Sister: Georgianna (Jerry) Pagliai of Bulpit, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents and her Sisters: Shirley Tarrant and Mary Bresh.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Graveside service starting at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Eric and Rev. Jennifer Stilwell officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Agnes "Aggie" Meyer

Agnes “Aggie” Meyer of Taylorville died peacefully at her home at Hickory Estates on Monday, December 18, 2017, at the age of 86. Her passing was the end of a long struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

 

Aggie and her twin sister Celi were born on March 22, 1931 to John and Mary DeClerk in Assumption, Illinois. She Married John E. Meyer on January 21, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1993. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mark Peters of Taylorville. Aggie’s memory will live on in her beloved grandchildren Douglas (Amy) Peters of Shelbyville, Illinois, and Laura (Rick) Leh of Alton, Illinois as well as her great grandchildren Kolby and Kamden Peters and Devyn Leh.

 

Her surviving siblings are brothers: Charles DeClerk and Bernard (Ida) DeClerk of Stonington, Illinois; sisters: Mary Margaret Morrison of Pueblo West, Colorado, Nora (Byron) Peters, and Fran (Fred) McKinnon of Taylorville, Illinois. She also is survived by 116 nieces and nephews. Aggie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Connie DeClerck and Jack DeClerck, and her beloved twin sister Cecilia “Celi” Sutton.

 

Aggie worked as a keypunch supervisor of the Illinois State Police for 35 years. After retiring from the state of Illinois in 1985, she began her retail career on the Taylorville square, first at Graham Crackers children’s clothing store, followed by Heslovs Boutique, and finally at the Dollar General store. She loved working retail and always had a smile for her customers.

 

Aggies greatest love was her large family and especially for her grandchildren. She loved cooking and baking goodies for all of them.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, Illinois. Burial will follow at Glen

Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.

Bruce Scanland

Bruce Scanland, 77 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:10 a.m. at Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Shelbyville. He was born on July 26, 1940 in Concordia, KS the Son of Alden T. and Pauline (Hinson) Scanland. He married Janet Tankersley on January 22, 1972 in Taylorville, IL. He worked as a salesman for agricultural products and he was a 32nd degree Master Mason. Bruce was a member of Mound Lodge #122 AF & AM and the First United Methodist Church both in Taylorville. He was a veteran of the United States Army, served in the United States White House during Vietnam.

Surviving are his Wife: Janet Scanland of Taylorville; Daughters: Abigail (Randy) Mueller of Maryland Heights, MO; Beth (Carl) Niemann of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: David, Asher, Jude and Finn Niemann; Wesley and Madeline Mueller; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Nephew Scott McCabe.

Ruth E. Fore

Ruth E. Fore, 93, of Springfield, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

 

Ruth was born February 28, 1924 at home in rural Christian County, IL, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Jackson) McConnell. She married Marvin Fore on August 16, 1942 in Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1974.

 

Ruth was a homemaker, taking great pride in raising her children. She was fun, loyal, and always showed her family unconditional love. She also worked for the State of Illinois in the Department of Revenue, and for Steele Drugs in Taylorville. Ruth enjoyed reading, dancing, and crossword puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards and dice with them.

 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald Fore, who passed away December 10, 2017; and siblings, Helen Larimore, Hilda Hibbetts, Hazel Babbs, Raymond McConnell, and Donald McConnell.

 

Ruth is survived by her children, Joyce (husband, Rich) Ciaglia of Westchester, IL, Gary (wife, Colleen) Fore of Parrish, FL, Karen (husband, Bill) Paris of Springfield, IL, Patricia Masten of Taylorville, IL, and Roger (wife, T Le) Fore of Granite City, IL; eleven grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brother, Robert McConnell of Sharpsburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor James Jones, officiant.

Ronald Peter Monge

Ronald Peter Monge, 79, of Taylorville passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.   He was born on April 29, 1938 in Taylorville, the son of John and Catherine (Bellino) Monge. Ron married Barbara Braat on August 20, 1966 at St. Mary’s Church in Taylorville. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1960 and in 1963 received his Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. Ron taught building trades and industrial arts classes in Taylorville for over 35 years and was known by his students as “Chief-O”. Through Chief-O’s teaching and leadership, he instilled life-long skills and work ethic in the many students he taught throughout the years. He also spent many years as a football and track coach in Taylorville. Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Carpenter’s Union, TPA, and a social member of the Kincaid American Legion. In his free time Ron enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking, especially building wooden toys for his grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife: Barbara Monge of Taylorville; daughters: Virginia “Ginny” Monge (Deane Walker) of Concord, California, and Carol Lee Sain (Shon) of Wilmington, Delaware; grandchildren: Bailey Sain, Alex Walker, Jack Walker, and Lily Sain; siblings: Elizabeth Lisak of Itasca, Illinois and Julio Monge of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: John, Margaret, Lillian, and Donald Monge.

Funeral Mass for Ron will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz and Fr. Mariadas Chatla officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5 until 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church. A prayer service will be held at 4:45 p.m., prior to the visitation on Thursday. The family would like to invite Chief-O’s former building trades boys to serve as Honorary Pallbearers for his service. Jon F. Johnson, 50 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:28 a.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born on August 2, 1967 in Springfield, IL the Son of Jimmie and Andrea (Guidotti) Johnson. Jon worked as a parts man at Bob Ridings in Taylorville for several years.

David Lavern Ackerman

David Lavern Ackerman, 84 of Edinburg, IL passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 4, 1933 in Cuba, MO the son of Walter and Elva (Cary) Ackerman. He married Gayla May Harter on April 30, 1955 in Taylorville, IL, they were later divorced. David served in the United States Army during the Korean war. He was a member of Edinburg First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his sons: Leroy (Linda) Ackerman of Taylorville, IL, Bill Ackerman of Collinsville, OK, and Danny Ackerman of Taylorville, IL; daughter: Sharon Casteel (Judy Erley) of Springfield, IL; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Edward Ackerman; and brother: Jim Ackerman.

It was David’s wishes to donate his body to science, there will be no services and an inurnment will be held at a later date.

Wayne R. Mahan

Wayne R. Mahan, 89 of Taylorville passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 7:25 a.m. at Heritage Health Care Center in Pana, IL. He was born on December 15, 1927 in Herrick, IL the Son of Otis D. and Cleo I. (Durbin) Mahan. He married Dolores H. Turvey on November 19, 1950 in Taylorville, IL. He worked as a Postal Clerk and was a member of the VFW Post #4495 Taylorville and the American Postal Workers Union. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 11th Airborne. Wayne was an avid bowler and golfer and loved being outdoors and spending time with his family.

JoAnn Christian Lacey

JoAnn Christian Lacey was born in Taylorville, Illinois on March 13, 1935 to June Hallie Pounds Christian and John Henry Christian. She graduated High School from the last class to graduate from the Palme, Illinois High School in 1953. Thereafter she attended Brown’s Business College. She used her education to begin working in Decatur, Illinois. It was in Decatur that she found and married the love of her life, Francis Neil Lacey. They were married after a whirlwind romance on February 18, 1957 in Hernando, Mississippi. They enjoyed a magnificent 61 years of marriage.

They purchased their service station in Palmer, Illinois shortly after their marriage which they owned and operated for well over 40 years. During these 40 plus years she continued her education by graduating from the School of Cosmetology in Springfield, Illinois and drove a school bus for the Morrisonville School District for 22 years. JoAnn and Francis had retired and made their home in Livingston, TN for the last few years.

JoAnn and Francis raised 3 children that all graduated from college due to their parent’s support. Their oldest child, Cynthia Kay South lives with her husband Gary Lee South in Jonesville, South Carolina. Cindy’s two children Jason and Dustin Tull also live in South Carolina. Jason and wife Dawn have two children, Danielle and Leonna. Dustin and his wife Lacey have two children Hailin and Caden. Their second child, Brian Scott Lacey and his wife live in Fort Collins, Colorado where Brian has worked for Country Financial since 1991 and his wife Jodi works as an executive secretary for the District Attorney. Their 3 children Chance and Addison are continuing their education currently. Brianna is a nurse at Anschutz hospital in Aurora, CO. The youngest, Bradley Neil Lacey lives with his wife Sheila in Livingston, Tennessee after Brad retired from the Illinois State Police as a commander in District 13 & 22 for over 26 years.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as two brothers, John Laverne Christian and Jerry Richard Christian. She is survived by her husband, Francis Lacey. Her surviving siblings are Judy Lairson of Palmer, Jane Voss of Raymond and Jack Christian of Morrisonville.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 4:00 –8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville and she worked as an RN at Taylorville Memorial Hospital and Taylorville Home Health Services.

Robert D Hancock, Sr.

Robert D. Hancock, Sr., 76, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 1:59 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017 at his residence.

 

Bob was born September 15, 1941 in Morrisonville, IL, the son of Loy Pope and Ida Maude (Plopper) Hancock.

 

Bob attended Morrisonville High School, and went on to manage the Shell Service Station in Morrisonville, and later own the Mobil Service Station in Morrisonville. He would also retire from Spartech Plastics in Taylorville after twenty-five years of service. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. He greatly enjoyed history, especially Civil War history, watching westerns, and collecting owls and Elvis memorabilia.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and companion of many years, Diane L. Ward.

William “Prairie Dog” worked at Caterpillar retiring as a Crane Operator. He was a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Varmint Hunter, National Wild Turkey Federation, Coyote Slayer, Kedron Lodge #340 AF & AM in Mt. Auburn, IL, Ansar Shrine, Warrensburg Sportsman’s Club, 1000 and 1500 yard club, Classic Car Enthusiast and the FS Coffee Club.

James William Lawyer

James William Lawyer, 75 of Taylorville entered the gates of heaven on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1:00 a.m. at Heritage Health Care Center in Springfield. He was born on April 6, 1942 in the old St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville, IL the Son of Bill and Ruby (Irwin) Lawyer. He married Janet Shuck on April 16, 1961 in the Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Assumption, IL. In his younger days he worked for Bulpit’s furniture, circle steel and the Taylorville Golf Course. He retired from the C & IM railroad in Springfield after 42 years of service.

 

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, car races, the St. Louis Cardinals, and he had a love for football. He played football in his high school years and then went on to volunteer his time coaching the original JFL Bears team. He taught his grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren the skill of football. Jim was also their biggest fan on and off the field. Jim loved his great-Grandchildren, grandchildren and children but his biggest love was for his sweetie Janet. He loved with all his heart. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Pana. In his earlier walk with Jesus Jim taught a bible study in his home and at work. He loved to tell the others about Jesusand share how God changed his life.

Jean S. Boch

Jean S. Boch (aka Mama Jean), 88, of Taylorville, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017.

Jean was born May 25th 1929 in Moweaqua, IL. She was a long time resident of Taylorville, IL. She worked for many years as a care giver for Hands Across Illinois, retiring in 2002. Other places of employment include: Malloy’s, Midway Tavern, and T&C Lounge. Jean was also the lead vocalist for the Edinburg Opera House Band, as well as, Jeanie and the Boys (band). In addition, she was a Senior Regent of the Taylorville Moose Lodge Post 1516.


Jean was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She had a tremendous love for music. Jean was a talented vocalist and pianist. She also enjoyed reading, crafting, puzzle solving, cooking, bingo, and playing Yahtzee and poker with her friends and family.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Naomi and Robert McQuality; her son: James G. Tirpak; her niece: Linda Allen; two sisters and four brothers; three great grandchildren; and son-in-law: Terry Ostermeier.

She is survived by her children: Andrea (Dale) Smith of Riverton, IL., Michael (Linda) Tirpak of Cerro Gordo, IL., Steven (Diane) Tirpak of Leroy, IL., Shirley Ostermeier of Taylorville, IL., SuAnn (Arnold) Tullis of Virginia, IL., Richard (Michel) Thompson of Daytona, FL., 20 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

All whom loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, humorous personality, and beautiful voice.

Genevieve Adkins, 91, of Ohlman, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 6:45 p.m. at Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nokomis. She was born on November 19, 1926 in Lakewood Township, IL. The Daughter of Edward and Olka (Trout) Phegley. She married Roy Adkins on June 4, 1950 in Lakewood, IL.

She is survived by her Husband: Roy Adkins of Ohlman, IL; Sons: Gary Phegley of Hillsboro, IL; Terry Adkins and companion Judy Voss of Ohlman, IL; Dan (Anna) Adkins of Nokomis, IL; Daughter: Patty (John) Vedder of Nokomis, IL; Grandchildren: John (Heather) Vedder, Pixie (Jamie) Vieweg, Bobby (Melissa) Vedder, Leslie (Larry) Farris, Brent Adkins, Amanda (Mike) Thompson, William Adkins; Great-Grandchildren Nichole and Chase Vieweg; Kadyn, Gage and Nora Vedder; Bailey and Cody Ferris; Sisters: Vida Hayward; Merle (Don) Hymes; Ruby Prater all of Shelbyville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Brothers: Lennel, Max, Clem, Merlin and Earl Phegley and Sister: Alta McKittrick.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. Martha Alice Hays, 79 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 10:40 p.m. at her residence in Taylorville. She was born on July 25, 1938 in Pana, IL the daughter of Verne and Pauline (Enlow) Weekly. He married Edward Earl Hays on July 25, 1959 in Tower Hill, IL. Martha worked for the Taylorville School District and was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church.

She was born on February 23, 1952 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of Johnie and Roberta (Lass) Isbell. She married Terry Long in 1968 and they were divorced. She then married Charlie Jump on September 12, 1986 in Taylorville.

McKinney of Taylorville, IL; Step-Daughter: Vaydra Jump of Blue Springs, MO; Grandchildren: Sheryce Long, Kyler Mink, Quentin Long, Millenia Mink, Erin Long, Keeley Mink, Jaron Mink and Brayden Jump; Great-Granddaughter: Aubrey Flannell; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents and herBrother: Johnnie Byron Isbell.

Edith Mae Rever

Edith Mae Rever, 77, of Assumption, died December 3, 2017 in Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana, IL.

 

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Assumption, IL. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption, IL. A prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Assumption, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Edith was born January 29, 1940 in Brownstown, IL, the daughter of Cloyce and Ruth (Baughman) Gatewood. She married James Walters, he preceded her in death. She later married Thomas E. Rever February 14, 1992 in Assumption, IL. He preceded her in death February 9, 2015.

 

Edith was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar Society. She was retired as a cook from Kemmerer Village.

 

Surviving are her daughters: Monica (Dennis) Christian of Tower Hill, IL, Marla (Shawn) Stover of Arizona, Susan Brown of Tennessee, and Gina Walters of Humboldt, IL; seven grandchildren: two great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Dorothy) Gatewood of Kentucky and cousin, Kay Estes of Pana, IL.

 

Preceding her in death are her husbands, parents, one brother and one sister.

Floyd Boyd

Floyd Boyd, 67, of Nokomis passed away at 8:16 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in his home. He was born in Newton County, Texas, the son of Horace and Ruby (Rosenbaum) Boyd. He married Dorothy Gabriel on June 28, 2010 in Taylorville. Floyd excelled in his career as a boilermaker. Following his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He especially cherished the time spent with his granddaughter AJ.

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy “Dot” Boyd; son: Richie (Tracie) Boyd; daughter: Kim (Mark) Middleton; stepson: George (Kendra) Spallinger II; 9 grandchildren; brothers: Tom (Cynthia) Boyd, Carl Reed (Sandy) Boyd, and John Boyd; sisters: Lorraine (Melvin) Green, Florence Heard, Dorothy Ann (Tom) Link, Rosalie (Benton) Hamilton, and Joyce (John) Nichols; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Nathan Boyd, Edward Boyd, and Henry Boyd.

Floyd will be cremated, and the family will host a celebration of his life in the spring. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Charles R. Hohenstein

Charles R. Hohenstein of South Bend, Indiana passed away November 30, 2017 in South Bend. He was born July 20, 1955 in Taylorville, IL the son of Ronald E. Hohenstein and Dorothy F. Hohenstein. Charles graduated from Mt. Auburn High School with the class of 1973, and held degrees from Illinois Wesleyan, Chicago Theological Seminary and a PhD from the University of Notre Dame having taught humanities at Notre Dame.

 

Surviving are his brother Kenneth Hohenstein and his wife Helen of Mt. Auburn and sisters: Phyllis Dorn and husband Larry of Ankeny, Iowa and Susan Rush and husband Stan of North Richland Hills, Texas and several nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ron Hohenstein and Jim Hohenstein.

 

Burial will be held in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery at a later date.
