Donald Hilton Petty of Nokomis

Donald Hilton Petty,  92, of Nokomis, passed away on June 28, 2014 at 5:40 p.m. at Pana Community Hospital in Pana.  He was born on December 17, 1921 in Nokomis;  the son of  John and Lillian (Epley) Petty. He married Helen Loretta Bolte on November 15, 1943 in St. Charles, MO. He was the owner/operator of Tri-R-Disposal. Mr. Petty was a member of Nokomis Lodge #456 A.F. & A.M. since November 13, 1961. He also belonged to the Ansar Shrine, Christian County Shrine Club and the Nokomis Lions Club. He was a Volunteer Fireman and the Assistant Chief  in Nokomis, Mr. Petty was also on the Nokomis City Council and the Montgomery County Board.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Nokomis; sons: Joe (Kathy) Petty of Hillsboro; Dennis Petty and Companion Jan of Witt; Jerry (Sue) Petty of Litchfield; John (Mary) Petty of Nokomis; Rodney (Susan) Petty of Taylorville; Randy (Penny) Petty of Nokomis and Chris Petty of Nokomis; grandchildren: Shelly Karcher, Brandon Petty, Robin Petty, Jill Flynn, Michelle Miles, Amanda Keele, Sarah Petty, Jessica Durbin, Dalton Petty, Kyra Petty eleven great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his parents, daughter: Diann Petty; son: Reginald Petty and grandson: Nick Petty.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. The funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Terry Walters with the assistance of Rev. Steve Williams.  Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery, Nokomis.

George Raymond Weddle of Kincaid

Mr. George “Raymond” Weddle, 88, of Kincaid, IL passed away peacefully Friday, June 27, 2014 in St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL.

He was born September 17, 1925 in Tovey, the son of George Lee and Dora (Hunter) Weddle. Raymond married Enes Anne Gherardi June 10, 1950 in Taylorville.

Mr. Weddle worked for Chicago and Illinois Midland Railroad. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from September 1943 to April 1946 attached to CASU#2 as an Aircraft Specialist S2 at Barber’s Point Pearl Harbor. Following W.W. II he went back to work for C & IM Railroad. Mr. Weddle then worked for over 23 years at Allis-Chalmers in Springfield, IL He retired in 1985. He has been a long time member of Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid. Raymond also was a member of VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville, American Legion Post #905 in Kincaid and Blueville Masonic Lodge #647 AF & AM in Edinburg.

Surviving are his Wife Enes of Kincaid; son John L. (Elisabeth A. Stout) Weddle of St. Louis, MO and a granddaughter Whitney Rae Weddle.

His parents and 1 brother preceded him in death.

As per Mr. Weddle’s request, services will be private. He will be buried in Camp Butler National Cemetery at Springfield. Memorials in his memory may be made to Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid or the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in St. Louis.

Eileen M. Nonnie Kessler of Nokomis

Eileen M. “Nonnie” Kessler,  91, of Nokomis, passed away on June 26, 2014 at 11:54 a.m. at Pana Community Hospital in Pana.  She was born on June 1, 1923 in Nokomis, IL;  the daughter of  Grover and Della (Conlon) Kessler. She was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Early in life she worked for the Free Press Progress in Nokomis; later she worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation until her retirement. She was an intelligent woman who was an avid reader and was always young at heart.


She is survived by her cousin, Marjorie Brummet of Witt, IL;  special niece: Barbara (Buchko) Brush of Springfield, IL; great nephew: Brian (Ann) Brush of Pawnee, IL; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her parents, brother: Stanford “Bud” Kessler; sisters: Billie Buchko and Wenonah “Nonie” Gibson.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. at  St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery, Nokomis, IL.

Anna Butcher of Shelbyville

Anna Butcher,  72, of Shelbyville, formerly of Mt. Auburn, IL, passed away on June 22, 2014 at 9:10 p.m. at  the Shelbyville Rehabilitation & Health Center in Shelbyville, IL. She was born on March 11, 1942 in Decatur, IL;  the daughter of  Herman and Opal (Harbarger) Flach.  She married James Butcher on January 4, 1964 in Iowa. She was a Beautician and a member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Auburn. She was also a PM (Past Matron) of Kedron Chapter #536, Order Of The Eastern Star. Anna was the Secretary for the Illinois Berkshire Association for over fifteen years. She won the first husband calling contest at the Illinois State Fair. Anna helped with everything around the farm from helping with the feed store, feeding and showing hogs, or anything else that needed to be done. She was very active in helping in her community.Anna was always available and willing to lend a helping hand.


She is survived by her husband, James Butcher of Mt. Auburn, IL; son: Shane (Shelly) Butcher of Blue Mound, IL; grandson: Brandon Butcher of Blue Mound, IL; brothers: Roger (Nancy) Flach of Oakley, IL and Lyle (Kathy) Flach of Springfield, IL; sister: Norma Bell of MN; brother-in-law: Johnny (Kathy) Butcher of Carlinville, IL; sister-in-law: Marilyn (Lynn) Webb of Franklin, TN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her parents, brother, James Flach and parents-in-law: Owen and Doris Butcher.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Wray Offerman officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Mt. Auburn, IL.

Martin Dean Fleming of Mattoon

Martin Dean Fleming  aka Naya Grace Taylor  45, of Mattoon, IL, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 6:43 p.m. at  Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. Martin was born on August 25, 1968 in Ohio to Samuel H. and Mary C. (Rigney) Fleming. Martin was a Minister and a member of the Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Taylorville.


Survivors include long time companion, Mike Boyd of Mattoon; siblings: Michael Fleming of Indiana; Brenda Adams of Taylorville, IL; Samuel Fleming and Mary Fraizer both of Ohio; several nieces and nephews and special pets: Samuel H, Socks, Katty, Gretchen, Princess, Peanut, Jacob and Andrew.


Martin’s parents, siblings: Sharon Glover and Theresa Capuano have passed away.

Marian Sue Sanders of Stonington

Marian Sue Sanders age 79 of Stonington died at 4:20 pm Thursday June 19, 2014 in Springfield Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10am Wednesday June 25 at Body of Christ Ministries in Macon with Pastor Richard Chappell officiating. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Tuesday, June 24 at Body of Christ Ministries in Macon. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to John N Sanders Jr. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service & Care is in charge of arrangements.

Marian Sanders was born July 6 1934 in Christian County. Daughter of Frank & Clella Kauerauf. She was a school teacher at DCS for many years. She Married John N. Sanders Jr. October 17th 1954.

Survivied by husband John Sanders Jr., son Stephen J Sanders, daughters Marla Sanders & Robin Lebsack. Grandchildren Jennifer Nusz, Steth Wahl, Jason Vincent, Elijah Sanders, Noah Sanders, Lauren Seibert, Lacey Lebsack, Sarah Sanders, Levi Lebsack & 6 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty & a great grandson.

Marian Sanders was an amazing wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother and will be deeply missed.

June Cebulski of Taylorville

June Cebulski, 87, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:25 pm Monday, June 16, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

She was born July 8, 1926 in Georgetown, IL the daughter of John Mitchell and Frances Ann Donaldson Lanter. On March 26, 1948 June married Henry D. Cebulski in Catlin, IL. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2010. Mrs. Cebulski had worked in the office of Thomas Construction, had been an office manager for Drs. Murphy and Bartlesmeyer, and was the first office manager of Christian County Medical Clinic in Taylorville. June loved cooking and her favorite pastimes, which she was very talented with, were quilting and needlework. She especially enjoyed the Senior Citizens Center where she was an avid card player and enjoyed her noon meals.

Surviving are her son: Greg Cebulski and wife Donna of Taylorville; Daughter: Nedra Dietz and husband John of Winter Springs, FL; Granddaughter: Lisa Walker of Taylorville; Great Grandchildren: Gavin Walker and Garek Walker, Great-great grandchild: Campbell Walker, and Sister: Frances Phillips of Tilton, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Jerry Lanter.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 19 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating.

Joseph Britton Robinson of Taylorville

Joseph Britton Robinson,  87, of Taylorville, passed away on June 14, 2014 at 11:19 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL. He was born on July 5, 1926 in Shelbyville, TN;  the son Joseph Elroy and Octia (Gannon) Robinson. He married  Dorothy Wylie on November 1, 1952 in Peoria, IL.     He was a Service Technician for AMF. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member or VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville, IL


He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Robinson of Taylorville, IL; son, Jeffery (Terri) Robinson of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Barbara (Robert) Southard of Taylorville, IL, Helen (Dennis) Garren  and Molly (Tim) Westover both of Tucson, AZ;  grandchildren: Shelley (Matt) Sadowsky, Gregg (Cristy) Garren, Teri Bankhead, Robyn Menossi, Erik (Sarah) Robinson, Scott (Brandi) Moore, Rachel Robinson, Todd Southard and Brad Johnsey; twelve great grandchildren; sister: Iris Pierce of Shelbyville, TN. He was preceded in passing by his parents, son: Joseph E. Robinson; daughter-in-law: Donna Robinson; two brothers and two sisters.

A. Lucille Shellman Coen, 96, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 4:15 p.m.  at Taylorville Estates . She was born October 30, 1917 in Bloomington, IL. The Daughter of Killion and Anna Marie (Johnson) Shellman. She married Philip Coen Jr. on October 25, 1941 in Hannibal, MO and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1999. She worked as a secretary for a certified public accountant in Springfield, IL and also a Piano teacher. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Piper City, IL and the Womens Club Home Bureau.   


She is survived by her Son: Robert (Elaine) Coen of Minooka, IL; Daughters: Ann (Sam) Bowsher of Edinburg, IL; Evie (Joe) Gill of Paris, IL; Grandchildren: Doug (Tonya) Bowsher of Stonington, IL; Tonya (Joe) Morell of Pawnee, IL; Kevin (Kelley) Bowsher of Pleasant Plains, IL; Sandra (Jeremy) Nunes of Dawson, IL; Robert (Dawn) Coen Jr. of Homewood, IL; Christa (Joe) Angell of Glenwood, IL; Great Grandchildren: Ryan, Carley, Luke, Landon, Carter, Parker, Bradley, Blake, Sean, Abigail; Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Beverly Wiley Carter Gideon of Mt. Auburn

Beverly Wiley Carter Gideon,  74, of Mt. Auburn, IL, passed away on June 9, 2014 at 12:15 p.m. rural Blue Mound from results of a car  accident. She was born on February 14, 1940 in Witt, IL;  the daughter Elmer and Viola Marie (Haines) Wiley.  She married  Elvis Elmer Carter on June 6, 1958 in Boody, IL. He preceded her in passing on January 14, 1996. Later she married Donald D. Gideon on February 19, 2000 in Berea Christian Church in Mt. Auburn, IL. He preceded her in passing on November 4, 2011. She was a retired nurse and homemaker. Beverly was a member of Blue Mound Methodist Church. She loved quilting, gardening and playing musical instruments. Most of all she loved her family.


She is survived by her son, Duane (Tracy) Carter of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter: Phyllis (David) Goodall of Taylorville, IL; step-son: Russ (Jennifer) Gideon of Blue Mound, IL; step-daughter: Shirley Gideon of Mt. Auburn, IL; grandchildren: Becky (Tim) Cordani, Nick (Tabitha) Carter,  Crystal Carter, Dwight Hudson; step-grandchildren: Matt (Tiffany) Gideon, Gabe (Tonya) Gideon, Crystal (Jeremy) Anderson, Lacey (Rocky) Rogers; great grandchildren: Adrianna Cordani, Aaron Cordani; step great grandchildren: Davey Gideon, Rhayden Gideon, Bella Gideon, Trysten Anderson, Gideon Anderson, Sophia Rogers, Grace Rogers, Griffin Rogers, Sadie Gideon, Lauren Gideon, Josie Gideon; brother: Nelson (Becky) Wiley; several nieces and nephews. Terry Whitehurst of Taylorville

Terry Whitehurst, 70, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on June 14, 1943 in Westfield Township, Clark County, IL the son of Delbert Burton and Ruby June (Glenn) Whitehurst. Terry had worked his  life as a union carpenter and was known as a “Master Carpenter”.


He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Jeremy) Blazek of Abrams, WI; sons: Bob (Kim) Whitehurst of Waukesha , WI and Rick Whitehurst of Green Bay, WI; sisters: Annie Whitehurst and Lola Gordon; brothers: Tommy, Bobby, Gary and Del Whitehurst; grandchildren: Steven, Sydney, Emily, Joshua and Mary Kay; sister-in-law: Sharon Whitehurst; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in passing by his parents, sister: Caroline; brothers: Gene, Larry and Danny Whitehurst.


As per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no public services.

Robert D. Jensen of Taylorville

Robert D. Jensen,  81 , of Taylorville, passed away on June 8, 2014 at 5:37 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on September 4, 1932 in Chrisman, IL;  the son Andrew and Shannon (Hale) Jensen. He married  Venita Ransom on July 18, 1954 in Danville, IL. He was employed at McNeely-McNeely Real Estate. He was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville where he was a former Deacon.   He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and proud of his time spent serving his country in the US Navy. He was an active serviceman of the Korean War.  He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and wife and would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary on July 18. He and his father were carpenters and helped build the assembly hall in Champaign, worked at General Electric in Decatur, and sold real estate in Taylorville. He had an electrical degree from DeVry Technical Institute. He faithfully served The Lord his entire life.


He is survived by his wife, Venita Jensen of Taylorville, IL; son: Gregory (Diane) Jensen of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Brenda (Jeff) Bartnicki of Volo, IL; Sheila Jensen of Volo, IL; grandchildren: Savanna Jensen, Justin Bartnicki, Jarrett Bartnicki; great grandchild: Camdon Las; Nephews: Gary McNeely, Mike McNeely, Paul Bright, Brian Ransom; brother-in-law: Jerry Ransom of Georgetown, IL. He was preceded in passing by his parents; sister, Juanita McNeely; brother-in-law, Dale McNeely; nephew, Richard Ransom; sister-in law, Marcia Ransom, Peggy Bright; several aunts & uncles.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Inurnment will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with Rev. Dick Wamsley officiating.  Military rites conducted by American Legion Post #73, AMVETS Post #29, VFW Post #4495 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral and Honors Detail.

Margaret Maroon Crain of Taylorville

Margaret Maroon Crain, 42 of Taylorville passed away at 5:30 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at her home.  She was born December 31, 1971 in Greenville daughter of Melvin and Nancy (Tolle) Maroon, Sr.


She is survived by her Mother: Nancy Maroon of Nokomis, IL; Longtime Companion Jerry Gaton of Taylorville, IL; Brother Melvin Maroon and his companion Ramona Curtis of Effingham, IL; Son Jeffrey Crain of Nokomis, IL and Daughter Kayla Marie Gaton of Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her Father.


Along with loving her family, she also loved Country Music and to karaoke.


Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Smith Grove Cemetery in Greenville, IL.

Gloria B. Bertoldo of Tovey

Mrs. Gloria B. Bertoldo, 87, of Tovey, IL currently residing with her daughter in Girard, IL passed away Friday June 6, 2014 at 8:29am at home.


She was born in Langleyville, IL March 14, 1927 the daughter of John and Katherine (Nanni) Rossi. Gloria married James Bertoldo on March 1, 1947 in St. Rita's Catholic Church, Kincaid, IL.

Gloria was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL before moving to Girard, IL. She sewed at the dress factory in Kincaid, IL before marriage. Mrs. Bertoldo was a wonderful homemaker and mother.

Surviving are: her husband James G. Bertoldo of Girard, IL 2 sons Brian (Vickie) Bertoldo of Kincaid, IL and James R. Bertoldo of Tovey, IL 1 daughter Katherine (Michael) Puccetti of Girard, IL 4 grandchildren Brian Bertoldo, Bridget Moomey, Michael J. Puccetti and Katie Puccetti 3 great grandchildren Shaye, Delaney and Brian Lee along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Katherine Rossi and 1 brother Leno Phillip Rossi.


A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 9, 2014 in St. Rita's Catholic Church, Kincaid. The public is invited. Fr. Alan Hunter will officiate. Burial will following in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be private at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid. Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Catholic Church Kincaid, IL 62540.

Ralph W. Stanley, 74, of Pana, IL passed away on June 5, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. He was born on July 8,1939 in Taylorville, IL;  the son of Thomas and Josephine (Schwab) Stanley. He married  Judith A. Radzimanowsky on September 9, 1956 in Carbondale, IL. Mr. Stanley was a retired Lineman for Ameren CIPS and a member of the Lake Shelbyville Muskie Club.


He is survived by his wife Judy Stanley of Pana, IL; son: Bradley S. (Linda) Stanley of Pana, IL; daughter: Belinda S. Patton of Pana, IL; grandchildren: Aaron M. Stanley, Eric M. Stanley and Whitney D. Patton Lebon all of Pana, IL; great grandchildren: Trevor and Vincent Lebon of Pana, IL; brothers: Richard (Sharon) Stanley of Taylorville, IL and Tom (Chris) Stanley of Bloomington, IN; sisters: Florence Zamboni, Patricia (Rodell) Gross, Tammy (Barry) McGovern all of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was  preceded in passing by his parents, and one brother.


As per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private family burial will take place at a later date.
Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Dwight Alan Bethel of Taylorville

Dwight Alan Bethel,  63, of Taylorville, passed away on June  3, 2014 at 12:10 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on December 30, 1950 in Gillespie, IL;  the son Ira and Louise (Linton) Bethel. He married  Sally Schalk Braughton on March 23, 2005 in Taylorville, IL.  Mr. Bethel was retired from Olin Brass in Alton, IL. He was of the Baptist faith, loved planting flowers, and flying his model airplanes. He served his country in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic.


He is survived by his wife, Sally Bethel of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Ashleigh Bethel and Amanda Bethel; granddaughters: Sierra, Sabrina and Lillian; step-grandson: Dillan Braughton; step-granddaughters: Haylee and Kara Braughton and two step-sisters.  He was preceded in passing by his parents and step-son: Steve Braughton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., June 6, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Kevin Edington. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with Military Honors by American Legion Post #73, AMVETS Post #29, VFW Post #4495 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral and Honors Detail.

Marilyn M. Wilson of Taylorville

Marilyn M. Wilson, 76, of Taylorville, passed away on May 31, 2014 at 3:47 p.m. at the Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana, IL. She was born on January 14, 1938 in Roby, IL; the daughter of Otis and Mary Kathryn (Graham) Owens. She married Donald Prince and he passed away. She later married Eugene Wilson; he also preceded her in passing. She was a homemaker.


 She is survived  by her son: Rick (Bette) Prince of Mahomet, IL; daughter: Vicki (Melvin) Argo of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Dena (tom) Mozie, Joshua (Kiley) Argo, Jacob (Nicole) Argo, Amy (Ryan) Johnson, Abby Prince and Hannah Prince; eight great grandchildren; brother: Don Owens; sisters: Florence Ellrich, Theotis Davis, Teresa Thomas and Meda Ann Durbin; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by  her parents. husbands; son: David Prince, one brother and three sisters.


As per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services.

Hazel L. Bruns of Plano, TX

Hazel L. Bruns, 96, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Taylorville died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in Plano, Texas. She was born January 31, 1918 in Tower Hill, IL the daughter of C.A. and Florence Hoy Seitz. On August 14, 1937 she married Fred M. Bruns in Pana, IL and their fairy tale marriage ended when Fred died on April 7, 2005. She moved to Allen, Texas in 2006 to be near her family.

Hazel grew up on a farm near Tower Hill, Illinois during the Great Depression. She was a resident of Emeritus at Springcreek Gardens in Plano, TX at the time of her death. She was a graduate of Tower Hill High School and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. She and Fred lived in Taylorville for over 65 years where they started a family, endured separation while Fred served with the Marines in World War II. They built a successful furniture business and joyfully retired in 1973. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, and was a member and past Worthy Matron of Haselmere Chapter 221, Order of Eastern Star for over 75 years. Hazel made many new friends in Texas and enjoyed her bridge and bingo. Most of all she enjoyed her family. She was a great Mom to Bob and Rex, a wonderful Mother-in-law to June and Nancy. She was very much loved and appreciated by her four grandchildren: Leslie Bruns, Kristen Lockey and husband Justin, Courtney Bruns, and Robyn Bruns, and her five great Grandchildren: Madeleine, Justin, Jr., Joshua, Abigail, and Jacob Lockey.

The family will honor her memory in a private graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery.
