Randal K. McElroy

Randal Kenneth McElroy, 61 of Nokomis passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 10:40 p.m. as the result of a traffic accident in rural Rosemond, IL. He was born on July 24, 1956 in Wurzburg, Germany the Son of Paul Dean McElroy and W. Maxine (McElroy) Pearson. He married Genece Jones on August 24, 2007 in Hillsboro, IL. Randy worked as a Machine operator at GSI in Assumption.

 

Surviving are his Wife: Genece McElroy of Nokomis, IL; Step-Sons: Jamie (Hope) Jones of Newton, IL; Bobby Gertsch of Newton, IL; Jeffrey Shook of Nokomis, IL; Granddaughters: Jessica Jones, Brittany Jones, Kyelee Shook and Loralei Griffin; Great-Granddaughter: Macie Jones; Parents: Paul Dean McElroy of Tuscola, IL and W. Maxine Pearson of Irving, IL; Brothers: Ron (Janet) McElroy of Hillsboro, IL; Rob (Tawny) McElroy of Springfield, IL; Roger (Kay) McElroy of Bunker Hill, IL; Sister: Paula (Joe) Stawicki of Monee, IL; Father- in- Law: Mauriece Jones of Newton, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Step-Father: Claude Pearson.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis, IL with the memorial service immediately following the visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with Pastor Mike Palmer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Arlene Kay Montgomery

Arlene Kay Montgomery, 63, of Loami, IL passed away at 2:12 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
 
Arlene was born July 2, 1954 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Ivan and Claire Mae (Prose) Weber.  She married Don Montgomery on June 26, 1976 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL.

Arlene graduated valedictorian from Morrisonville High School in 1972.  She worked for Millburg’s Drug Store in Morrisonville, then for the Illinois Secretary of State for five years, before moving to San Diego, CA. While there she was a volunteer ombudsman for the U.S.S. Kinkaid for five years, while Don was serving in the U.S. Navy.  At that time, she was also a commercial lines underwriter for Home Federal Credit Union.  Upon she and Don’s return to Central Illinois, Arlene began working as a legal secretary in the Office of the State Appellate Defender, Supreme Court Unit, eventually retiring in 2011.  

Arlene was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, IL, where she was a member of their contemporary choir.  She had a beautiful voice, and was an equally talented seamstress, sewing anything she could.  Arlene will be remembered for her “Holiday Haircuts”, and excellent cooking, especially lasagna, enchiladas, and blonde brownies.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Don Montgomery of Loami, IL; sister, Marcia (Wayne) Rosenthal of Morrisonville, IL; father-in-law, Ray (Jean) Montgomery of Morrisonville, IL; brother-in-laws, Bob (Della) Montgomery of Morrisonville, IL, and David (Sarah) of Mound City, MO; sister-in-laws, Judy (David Brady) Hunt of Raymond, IL, and Amy (Dan) Schmedeke of Morrisonville, IL; aunt, Normadine Johnson; uncle, Bill Prose; nieces and nephews, Lexie (Chris) Florence, Kirsten Montgomery, Seneca (Daniel) Spindler, Jason (Cheri) Hunt, Ben (Amy) Montgomery, Sam (Andrea) Montgomery, Tim (Bekka) Montgomery, Dan (Faith) Montgomery, Katy Schmedeke, Nicky Schmedeke, Dustin (Brooke) Rosenthal, Sean (Sarah) Rosenthal, Casey Rosenthal, and Crystal Hatley; and numerous cousins.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville, with Rev. Martin J. Kaufmann officiating.

Interment will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Thomas Jon Frevert

Thomas Jon Frevert, 75, of Taylorville passed away at 10:59a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born on May 19, 1942 in West Union, Iowa, the son of Dr. Merrill Frederick and Eunice Irene (Finch) Frevert. He graduated from West Union High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University. Tom married Kay Scharae Kilcher on June 29, 1968 in West Union. He was a veteran of the US Army. Tom worked at Caterpillar, the Illinois Healthcare Association, Illinois Power, and most recently as an accountant with the State of Illinois. He was an active member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church where he served in many roles throughout the years including: Finance Committee, Administrative Board Chairman, Worship Committee Chairman, Lay Delegate to Annual Conference, and participated in the cancer support group. Tom was also active in his community including: President of the Christian County Mental Health Association, member of the Board of Appeals for the City of Taylorville, Public Relations Director for the Executive Board of the Tornado Wrestling Foundation and played the role of Chamberlain for the High School Madrigal Dinner for 20+ years. Tom and Kay are proud supporters of many local charities, sports, and the arts and were recently given the title of Avid Sports Fans of the Year for the Taylorville High School. He was an avid golfer and loved his annual golf trips with the “Biloxi Boys” including one just last year. Tom loved spending time outdoors where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and waterskiing. Traveling, especially with his family was always important to Tom. Anytime Tom and Kay were out, and a good song came on, they would most certainly be found on the dance floor. More than anything, Tom’s children and grandchildren meant everything to him. No matter what the activity, Tom was always there to support his grandkids. Tom made a lasting impact on all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his friends, the community, and his family.

 

He is survived by his wife: Kay Frevert of Taylorville; children: Jenny Moats (Jim) of Taylorville, Trish Groeninger (Rick) of Auburn, and Andrew Frevert (Rachel) of Peoria, Arizona; grandchildren: Abby Moats, Faith Moats, Jordan Moats, Jereme Groeninger (Ashley), Hanah Klein (Donny), Kalynn Groeninger, Liliana Frevert, Amara Frevert, Lincoln Frevert, and Israel Frevert; great grandson: Bjorn Groeninger; and sister: Elaine Wick (Lee) of Alexandria, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Nancy Champion-Seppala and Jane VanRoekel.

 

A funeral service for Tom will be held at 10:00a.m. on Monday, March 12 in the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. Visitation will he held from 4 until 7p.m. on Sunday, March 11 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville and for one hour prior to the funeral in the church. Tom will be cremated following the funeral and inurnment will take place at a later date in the West Union Cemetery in Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Taylorville First United Methodist Church, the Tornado Wrestling Foundation, or Cancer Care Specialists in Decatur. William M. Perry

William M. Perry, 80 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 7:40 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on October 24, 1937 in Edinburg, IL the son of James W. and Grace (Minson) Perry. He married Jacklyn Pigg on July 7, 1958 in the First Baptist Church in Taylorville IL. Bill worked as a mainline operator at PPG in Mt. Zion.


Surviving are his wife, Jacklyn Perry of Taylorville; Children, Patrick Perry of Kirkwood, MO; Mark Perry of Owaneco, IL; Sue Ellen (Mark) Heil of Taylorville, IL; Lisa (Kevin) Bailey of Pawnee, IL; Ty Perry of Owaneco, IL; Grandchildren: Christina Lammers, Rachel Ford, Nathan Perry, Kurtis Heil, Garrett Perry, Kraig Heil, Amber Perry, Ryan Bailey, Jessica Bailey, Lexi Perry, Kaylee Heil, Kali, Travis, Jack, Tanner, Taylor and Carter Perry. Great-Grandchildren: Austin Ford, Jackson Ford, Cameron Heil, Cooper Heil and Kennedy Lammers; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers: Harold and James Perry; Sisters: Melba Weaver, Vera Jones and Nadine VanDeveer Ella Mckinney.

John Scott Zini

John Scott Zini, 55 of Edinburg passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 10:04 p.m. at his residence in Edinburg. He was born on February 17, 1963 in Springfield, IL the Son of Harry J. and Nancy (Kris) Weiser Zini. He worked as a farmer and carpenter in the Edinburg Area.


Surviving are his Son: John Ethan Zini of Kincaid, IL; Parents: Harry (Gail) Zini of Pawnee, IL and Kris (Randy) Moore of Rochester, IL; Step Brother: Jeromy (Bobbi) Chevalier of Pawnee, IL; Step-sisters: Sharon (Dennis) Dowson of Auburn, IL; Angela (Dan) Janssen of Sherman, IL; Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents: John and Darline Zini; Philip and Vivian Weiser and his Sister: Kristill Bella.  


Graveside service will be held at a later date in Bethel Baptist Cemetery in rural Sharpsburg, IL.

Danny E Hill

Danny E. Hill, 64, of Taylorville passed away at 3:10p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 in his home.  He was born on May 30, 1953 in Marion, Illinois, the son of Bill and Doris (Monen) Hill.  Danny graduated from Marion High School and went on to join the US Marines.  Following his time in the service, he worked for many years at Firestone in Decatur and later for Macon Metal Products in Taylorville.  He married Mary Jo Orlandini on March 22, 2013 in Taylorville.  Danny had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed his time spent camping, fishing, and canoeing.  He loved his friends and animals, especially dogs.  
He is survived by his wife: Mary Jo Orlandini Hill of Taylorville; son: Ryan Hill (Elizabeth) of Mobile, Alabama; and granddaughters: Lauren Hill and Natalie Hill.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Mr. Hill will be cremated, and no services will be held at this time.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is handling arrangements.  Memories of Danny, or condolences to his family, may be left online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com

Dana C. Hawthorne

Dana Charles Hawthorne, 58, of Stonington passed away at 7:08a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 in his home. He was born on May 15, 1959 in Saltville, Virginia, the son of Charles Walter “Bud” and Annie Ruth (Adams) Hawthorne. Dana graduated from Stonington High School in 1977 and worked at Monsanto in Stonington. He enjoyed collecting bicycles and was known for his care-free spirit and his ability to make people laugh.

 

Dana is survived by his mother: Annie Hawthorne of Taylorville; children: Samantha Farris and Josh Hawthorne both of Taylorville, Alisia Hawthorne of Lincoln, and Nathan Hawthorne of Stonington; grandchildren: Tyler Farris, Devin Farris, Jenna Farris, Aidan Donovan, and Ryann Hawthorne; brothers: Gary Lee Hawthorne (Shannon) of Springfield and Terry “Randy” Hawthorne (Nancy) of Chilhowie, Virginia; niece: Sarah Price; and nephew: Stephen Hawthorne. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

 

A funeral service for Dana will take place at 6:00p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Gerald McPhillips officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 until 6p.m. on Thursday. Following the funeral Dana will be cremated and inurnment will take place at a later date in the Old Stonington Cemetery. Samuel McGuire

Samuel McGuire, 84 of Springfield formerly of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 7:01 p.m. at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL. He was born on August 25, 1933 in Mina TWP, NY the Son of Samuel Joseph and Marie McGuire. He married Sylvia Nadai on November of 1953 and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2010. He was a retired executive from Sangamon Card Company.


Surviving are his Son: Mike (Carol) McGuire of Springfield, IL; Grandson: Thomas McGuire of Springfield, IL; Brothers: Robert McGuire of Cleveland, OH; Nephew and Niece: Danny and Patti McGuire. He was preceded in death by his Parents and his Wife.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. There will be no funeral service and inurnment will be held at a later date.

Vivian Marie Durbin

Vivian Marie Durbin, 74, of Morrisonville passed away at 5:00a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Heritage Healthcare in Springfield.  She was born on November 15, 1943 in Palmer, the daughter of Clyde and Grace (Skinner) Durbin.  Vivian worked as a child care provider and caregiver for many years.  


She is survived by her daughter: Chrissy Schierer of Kincaid; grandson: Dylan Schierer of Kincaid; brothers: Carl Durbin (Pat) of Morrisonville, Frank Durbin (Carole) of Gillespie, Donald Durbin (Dorothy) of Palmyra, Ronald Durbin (Diana) of Gillespie; sisters: Mary Griffiths (John) of Morrisonville, Betty Biondolino and Donna Durbin both of Langleyville; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Glenn Durbin and Robert Durbin and sister-in-law: Carol Durbin.

Joan Kennedy White

Joan Kennedy White, 86 of Taylorville passed away at 8:40p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on June 21, 1931 in Champaign, Illinois, the daughter of John R. and Annabel (Tucker) Kennedy.  On December 30, 1951 she married Robert G. White in the First Presbyterian Church in Champaign. 

 

Joan worked for many years as a librarian at the Taylorville Public Library.  She was a member of the Taylorville First Presbyterian Church, THEOS, and DAR.  Joan enjoyed volunteer work not only at her church, but also at Memorial Medical Center.  Joan and Robert had many foster children throughout the years that they raised and cared for.
She is survived by her children: Rhonda G. Denning (Joseph) of Taylorville, Roberta “Robin” G. Steffen (Michael) of Springfield, Randall G White (companion Sheryl Coady) of Stonington, Richard G. White (Cathy) of Taylorville, Victor N. White of Billings, Montana, and Tina M White (Michelle) of Skokie; grandchildren: Jacqueline Coss (Brian), Michael Denning (Trudy), Eric Steffen, Douglas Steffen (Mandy), Kristopher White (Katie), Lindsay White (Dale Wilburn), Alysa White, Tyler White, Theodore White-Sandvik, and Keri Sinnard; great grandchildren: Benjamin Coss, Beau Coss, Harlee Steffen, Hayden Steffen, JoAnn Denning, Kathleen Denning, Rhett White, Gwendolyn White, Mila Burcham, Logan Coady, Alahna Sinnard, and Tristin Stine.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Deborah White, and sister: Judy Whittington.


A funeral service for Joan will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating.  Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christian County Senior Citizens.

Joyce Yard

Joyce Ruth Yard, 85, of Morrisonville passed away at 7:00a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.  She was born on January 19, 1933 in Palmer, the daughter of Harris Leroy and Doris Marguerite (Durbin) Nichols.  Joyce retired in 1998 from the State of Illinois DCFS.  She enjoyed bowling playing cards, and lately, playing Bingo.  More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  


Joyce is survived by her children: David Yard (Becky) of Harvel, John Yard (Rondi) of Chandler, Arizona, Michael Yard (Rafaelita) of Tunis, Tunisa, Joy Smith (Rick) of Pana, Susan Fox (Kenny) of Girard, Jim Yard (Companion, Dale) of Fenton, Missouri, George Yard (Debbie) of Taylorville, and Peggy Durbin (Randy) of Morrisonville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers, 1 sister, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Simba.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a great-great grandchild, and 2 brothers.

Ruth Elizabeth Smith

Ruth Elizabeth Smith, 99, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 12:45 p.m.at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on November 23, 1918 and was raised in Christian County. Ruth was a member of the Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL and played the piano for them often.

She leaves her daughter, Suzanne Grant of So. Carolina, Daughter, Kathleen (Bill) Clements of Arizona, grandson, Todd (Debbie) Grant, of Taylorville, Illinois, granddaughter, Robin (Monty) Brown of Arizona, granddaughter, Heather (Tony) Bertauski, of So. Carolina, and Wendy Clements of Nevada and seven great-grandchildren, Shay Grant, Chad Grant, Morgan Brown, Hayden Brown, Dane Brown, Benjamin Bertauski, and Madeline Bertauski. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Hanna and Jake Buesinger, Husband, Floyd Smith and Sister, Mary Francis Dewhirst.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid, IL with Pastor J. Steven Smith officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Steven Ramey

Steven Ramey, 71 of Valier, IL formerly of Taylorville, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 4:55 p.m. at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on July 31, 1946 in Litchfield, IL the son of Harold and Helen (Clarkson) Ramey. He married Mary Dunkirk on June 20, 1964. He worked in Maintenance for Caterpillar in Decatur where he retired after 30 years.

Cleda Ruth Wood

Cleda Ruth (Larimore) Wood, 100, of Taylorville passed away peacefully on Feb 10, 2018 in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. Cleda was only 8 days away from her 101st birthday, as she was born on Feb 18, 1917 the daughter of Logan & Nellie Larimore. She lived over a century through the Great Depression and several wars building a life with her husband, Charles, whom she married on Mar 27, 1935 in Taylorville. They had 2 children—Leon (died at age 22 in a car accident) and Charlene (husband Ronald Cushman, Belvidere IL,). Cleda’s husband preceded her in death on Mar 3, 1999. Cleda was blessed to be able to live her senior years in her home with the help of wonderful close friends, relatives and neighbors who checked on her daily. Cleda’s family would like to say a special thank-you to all of them for their selfless, loving assistance. Cleda’s mind was sharp until the end, and she was a witty woman with a great sense of humor who was greatly loved and enjoyed by everyone who knew her.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Ronald) Cushman of Belvidere, IL; grandsons, Charles (Shelley) Hart of Poplar Grove, IL & Butch Hart of Oxford, WI. Great-grandsons, Shane Adkins & Brandon Hart of Springfield, IL & Great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Hart of Springfield, IL. 3 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, son, grandson, Leon Hart, and great grandchildren, Zachary & Cerissa Hart.

Ina M. Griffin

Ina M. Griffin, 97 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:10 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was born on September 19, 1920 in May TWP, IL the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Deweese) Durbin. She married Luther Brown on October 11, 1941 in Stonington, IL and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1944, she then married Orville Griffin on August 16, 1958 and he also preceded her in death on November 2, 2008. Ina worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid for over 35 years and during that time she was the co-owner of Bills Toasty and she sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she played the organ for over 40 years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church at the time of her death. Ina was also a member of the Taylorville Eastern Star.

Surviving are her Son: James (Elaine) Brown of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Gina (Stan) DeSart of Taylorville, IL; Brett Brown of Taylorville, IL; Lisa (Joe) Weitekamp of Taylorville, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Lindsay (Jeremy) Manning, Matthew and Megan Myers all of Taylorville, IL, Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and her little dog Mia. She was preceded in death by her Parents, both Husbands and her Brothers: Charles Durbin and Bill Durbin.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, IL with Funeral Service following the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, IL with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Oma "Andy" Andrew Miller

Oma “Andy” Andrew Miller, 59, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:12 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his residence.

 

Andy was born May 25, 1958 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Leslie and Betty (Spillman) Miller. He married Deborah Jean Dishon on May 9, 2002 in Hillsboro, IL.

 

Andy graduated from Taylorville High School in 1977. He worked for Service Masters before working for Christian County Mental Health, where he would retire after over 32 years of service. He enjoyed country music, playing on his tablet, and surfing the internet, but most of all, Andy loved being around people, and they loved being around him.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Miller; and his brother, Leslie E. Miller.

 

Andy is survived by his wife, Deborah Jean Miller of Taylorville; mother, Betty Miller of Taylorville; siblings, Linda Scott of Gilbertsville, KY, Gary L. (wife, Rena) Miller of Taylorville, IL, Mary Ann (husband, Tim) Reiser of Springfield, IL, Penny Presnell of Great Falls, MT, and Dwight (wife, Michelle) Miller of Belton, MO; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568.

 

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville, with Pastor Bob Turner officiant.

David E. Hawkins, 71 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11:41 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on August 25, 1946 in Taylorville, IL the Son of Darrell and Mary Alice (Harbert) Hawkins. He married Nancy Sikes on October 1, 1966 in Harvel, IL. David was a salesman for Taylorville Auto Supply and Neuman Ulman. He was an avid fisherman and loved woodworking. The family requests that you dress informally for visitation.

 

Surviving are his Wife: Nancy of Taylorville, IL; Son: David Todd Hawkins of Stonington, IL; Granddaughter: Kaylan Hawkins of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sisters: Lillian McKnight and Alice Rose Hawkins.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. There will be no service and inurnment will be held at a later date.

Pamela Hemingway

Pamela Hemingway, 69, long-time resident of Mt. Auburn passed away at 11:33p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Pam was born on August 23, 1948 in Taylorville, the daughter of James D. and Marcella Ruth (Morgret) Jordan. She married Austin Eugene “Ozzie” Hemingway on April 27, 1969 in Mt. Auburn. Ozzie preceded Pam in death on March 19, 2015. Pam graduated from Sangamon State University and worked as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for 25 years in Edinburg. She was always on the go and loved to travel, play cards and eat out. Pam was a member of the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.

Pam is survived by her sons: Jim Hemingway (Peggy Morgan) of Edinburg and Jarred Hemingway of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren: Austin Hemingway and Cole Hemingway; special friend: Scott Matthew of Springfield; sister-in-law: Carolyn (Lawrence) Grant of Owaneco; aunt: Donna Beerup (Dean Hinton) of Springfield; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A funeral service for Pam will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Cook officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville and for 1 hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday. Burial will take place in the Grove City Cemetery. Memorials in Pam’s honor may be made to the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church.

Colleen Cay (Hardt) Overhaug

Colleen Cay (Hardt) Overhaug, 59, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:52 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

 

Colleen was born August 6, 1958 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Paul “Sam” and Audrey (Allen) Hardt. She married Arne H. Overhaug, Jr. on June 18, 1976 in Sycamore, IL, and they were happily married for over 41 years.

 

Colleen attended Kaneland High School, and graduated from DeKalb High School in 1977. She was a homemaker while her husband served in the military, and then spent the last 11 years as a bus driver for Taylorville schools. Colleen enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, and the “Bus Barn Gardening Club”. She was the best wife, mother, and grandmother, and she was the family’s rock.

 

She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Cinda Sue Hardt; and nephews, Clifford Brazee, Houston Pineda, and Evan Peterson.

 

Colleen is survived by her husband, Arne H. Overhaug of Taylorville, IL; children, Nicole M. (husband, Glenn) Cobb of Ozark, MO, Michelle A. Overhaug of Taylorville, IL, Arne H. (significant other, Emily Stephens) Overhaug III of Taylorville, IL, and Meagan S. Juanita B. Orr, 87 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 4:05 a.m. at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. She was born on May 31, 1930 in Hartsville, TN the daughter of Cordell and Ollie (Fuqua) Huffines. She married Harry William “Pogie” Orr on August 20, 1952 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on June 27, 2015. She worked as a homemaker and playground supervisor at South Elementary School in Taylorville.

Velma June Neal

Velma June Neal, 97, of Taylorville passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 in Taylorville. She was born on July 2, 1920 in Benton, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Phillips) Darnell On May 14, 1939 she married Eugene L. Neal in Morganfield, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on September 30, 2004. June worked for many years as an office manager for Bob Ridings in Taylorville.

She is survived by her son: Joseph Neal, wife Tina, of Taylorville as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Neal will be cremated, and the family will host a celebration of life at a later date. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is handling arrangements. Melvin Ashby Jr.

 

Melvin Ashby Jr., 78 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10:56 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. He was born on February 1, 1939 in Georgetown, IL the Son of Melvin Wayne and Eva Elizabeth (Wallace) Ashby Sr. He married Faye L. Hoy in December of 1963 in Taylorville, IL and they were later divorced. Melvin served in the United States Marine Corps and worked at Pillsbury in Springfield, IL.

 
Surviving are his Sons: David (Stephanie) Ashby of Taylorville, IL; Tim Ashby (Rose Wilson) of Springfield, IL; Eric Ashby of Collinsville, IL; Grandchildren: Megan (David) Siegrist of Taylorville, IL; Madison Ashby of Taylorville, IL; step-Grandson: Jeff Dugan of Taylorville, IL; Great Grandchild: Finnley Siegrist; Sister: Sharon Koski of Florida; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sister: Wanda Christian and several Aunts and Uncles. 
 
It was Melvin’s wishes to be cremated and there will be no services.

Laverne "Soapy" Eson

Laverne “Soapy” Eson, 91 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 9:35 p.m. at Heritage Health Care Center in Springfield. He was born on March 24, 1926 in Morrisonville, IL the Son of Elmer and Nellie (Snodgrass) Eson. He married Madeline Wilson on January 16, 1949 in Taylorville IL. He retired as a warehouse man from Georgia Pacific, he proudly served his country during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge and he loved to golf and build things. He was a member of VFW Post #4495, Edwin Corpin American Legion Post #905 and Disabled Veterans.

Surviving are his Wife: Madeline of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Deborah (Jack) Ryan of Kincaid, IL; Cinda Eson of Plymouth, MN; Granddaughter: Shauna Konecny of Minneapolis, MN; Nephew: Bob Bell and Niece Donna Anselm. He was preceded in death by his Parents and his Sisters: Wilma Cox and Julia Bell.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL with memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tiney Walker officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Harold E. Gist

Harold E. Gist, 76 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 6:16 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on April 21, 1941 in Jeiseyville, IL the son of Grant and Helen (Reese) Gist. He married Gwendolyn Stockon in 1970 and they later divorced. Harold worked as a factory worker, he drove a taxi in Taylorville, and his latest job was working for the Christian County Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his son: Harold (Terenia) Gist II of Taylorville, IL; daughter: Vivian “Missy” Lee Neff of Taylorville IL; grandchildren: Ashley Noel Basil, Ebony Kelsey, Jesse Perry, Brittany Neal, and Tyler Gist; six great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Beauchamp of Florida, and Eileen Sallade of Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents; sisters: Virginia Traxler, Beatrice Skrobot; Brothers: Elwood “Woody” Gist, Robert Gist, and Charles “Chuck” Gist.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with funeral service starting at 5:00 p.m. with pastor Chad Foster officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
