Darline Bond of Taylorville

Darline Bond, age 102, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, IL. Ida Darline Daigh was born on

December 14, 1911 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Benjamin and Lottie Daigh. She married Burley

Bond on August 1, 1936 in Watseka, IL. Burley preceded her in passing in 1998. Mrs. Bond was a dedicated

mother and homemaker. She worked at Hopper Paper Company prior to the birth of her children. She was

a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville, the Rosalind Chapter #736 of the Order of the Eastern

Star. She also belonged to the Springfield Ski and Boat Club. Her greatest joy was simple caring for her

loved ones and in this role she was a shining star indeed. She will be deeply missed by all.

Surving is Darline’s son, Dick (Jerry) Bond of Sun Lakes, AZ and his family; Richard (Suzanne) Bond II, their two children RJ & Hattie, Williamsville, IL; Susan Bond, Scottsdale, AZ. Also surviving is Darline’s daughter, Judy Bond of Austin, TX and her family; Kimberly (Erik) Mulloy, Austin, TX; Philip (Marne) Grgurich, Austin, TX, & their children; Elise Grgurich, Austin, TX and Sydney Grgurich, College Station, TX.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 3, with burial immediately following, officiated by Father Hunter. Sutton Memorial Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family request private service for immediate family members only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary’s School, Taylorville.

Marshall Teague Ehler of Decatur

Mr. Marshall Teague Ehler, 56, of Decatur, IL passed away peacefully at home with his family and loving wife Donna by his side at 11:07 am on Thursday, January 30, 2014.

He was born in Urbana, IL the son of William and Harriett (Kit) Ehler. Marshall married Donna L. Brandis originally from Kincaid, IL on August 29, 1998 in Decatur, IL. 

Mr. Ehler was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Decatur, IL. He graduated from Lakeview High School and later Richland Community College with an Associates Degree in Business. Marshall worked for approximately 20 years as a salesman and route driver for Prairie Farms Dairy. His interests were the Chicago Cubs, U of I basketball, golf and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife Donna L. (Brandis) Ehler of Decatur, IL, brothers William Roger (Diana) Ehler of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Wes (Renee) Ehler of Tucson, AZ, and sister Margie (Robert) Lansford of Pasadena, CA, nieces and nephews Julie (Adam) Stone (and their children Emily, Anna, and Joshua), Scott (Bailey) Ehler, and Jonathan, Hope, and Jenna Ehler. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Rosemary (Thomas) Bellaire of Clarendon Hills, IL and their sons Robert and John Bellaire.

Marshall was preceded in death by his parents Bill & Kit Ehler and his parents-in-law Steve and Pauline Brandis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 3, 2014 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2155 N. Oakland Ave. Decatur, IL 62526 with Pastor William Abbott and Pastor Brock Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Visitation for Mr. Ehler will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am Monday (2 hours before the service) at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Decatur. Marvin Phares of Taylorville

Marvin Phares, 92, of Taylorville, IL died at 12:20 am Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

He was born March 27, 1921 in Taylorville, the son of Henry Otis and Edna Belle Montgomery Phares. On April 14, 1944 he married Geneva A. Boils in Miami Beach, FL. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1994. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Marvin was a member of Operating Engineers Local 965 where he served as Secretary/Treasurer for 13 years. He retired in 1983. He had been a member of the Elks Club and was an avid Golfer and former member and board member of the Taylorville Country Club.

Surviving are his daughter: Judy Boger and husband Larry of Springfield, 3 Grandchildren: Tami Carver and husband Charlie of Dawson, Arik Martin of Los Angeles, Ca, and Adam Martin of Springfield; 3 Great Grandchildren: Olivia Patton and husband Cpl. Gerad (U.S.M.C.) of New Haven NC, Tanner Davis and Benjamin Carver both of Dawson. There are several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Daughter, Lynda Martin, and Brothers and Sisters: Delbert Phares, Howard Phares, Orrin Phares, Floyd Phares, Byron Phares, Rex Phares, Homer Phares, Lucille Mitchelson, and Lillian Winn.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 3 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. Charles C. Carver officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until time of service in the funeral home.

Shirley L. Randall of Taylorville

Shirley L. Randall, 85, of Taylorville, IL died at 4:02 am Monday, January 27, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

She was born March 27, 1928 in Taylorville the daughter of Harrison and Olive Osborn Daniels, Sr. On August 20, 1947 she married Carl W. Randall in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1996. Mrs. Randall was a homemaker and a member of Stonington United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter: Kathleen Marron and husband Dan of Taylorville; Grandchildren: Dan Marron and wife Christy of Stonington, Michelle Ostermeier and husband Buck of Taylorville, Alan Randall and wife Dana and Carla Bolton and husband Cordy all of Hillsboro, and Mark Krummel and wife Tina of Taylor Springs. Great Grandchildren: Josh Marron, Meagan Marron, Tori Marron, Alex Ostermeier, Tatum Ostermeier, Chrissy Redman, Dustin Randall, Jes Randall, Marina Krummel, Lotte Krummel, August Krummel, Mya Bolton, and Katelyn Bolton. She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Carl L. Randall, Brothers: Jesse Daniels, Harrison Daniels, Jr., Robert Daniels, Wally Daniels, and Sisters: Bettie Meloon Thompson and Druscilla Sloan.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 1 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Radae officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville.

Marcia L. Frauli of Edinburg

Marcia L. Frauli, 58, of Edinburg, IL died at 11:26 am Sunday, January 26, 2014 at her residence.

She was born July 15, 1955 in Effingham, IL the daughter of Elmer and Florence Burg Beccue. On June 26, 1985 she married George R. Frauli in Paducah, Kentucky. Mrs. Frauli was a homemaker and a member of Evangelical Free Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her husband, George Frauli of Edinburg, IL, and 3 Brothers: Ronald Beccue and wife Pam of Altamont, Lloyd Beccue and wife Dana of Edgewood, and Brad Beccue of Red Bud, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 1 at Evangelical Free Church, Taylorville, IL with Rev. Jim Wolfe officiating. There will be a meal provided by the church following the service. McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.

JoAnn (Ginger) Beard of Taylorville

JoAnn (Ginger) Beard, 56 of Taylorville passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:11 a.m. at the Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. She was born on January 19, 1958 in Taylorville, IL; the daughter of John Edward and Esther (Stanton) Ginger Sr. She was a Registered Nurse. JoAnn loved and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Coady Curtis; daughters: Leanne Beard and Katie Curtis; grandchildren: Jacob Walker, Isabella Beard, Raeanna Wempen and Brielle Humphrey;brother, Thomas (Tammy) Ginger of Taylorville, IL; sisters:Judith Rodden of Decatur, IL, Mary Tolley of Sherman, IL and Becky Ginger of Decatur, IL; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Carol Ginger and brother, John Edward Ginger Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Father Mariadas Chatla will officiate the services.

Greg Tarrant of Morrisonville

Greg Tarrant, 56, of Morrisonville, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:55 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur. He was born March 9, 1959 in Taylorville, IL. The Son of Joe and Shirley (Bresh) Tarrant. He worked as a welder at Firestone and Caterpillar. He was a graduate of Taylorville High school class of 75, was a veteran in the United States Army, Eagle Scout, Scout Leader for Many years was a volunteer fire fighter for Morrisonville, was in several pool leagues and loved to hunt deer and go fishing.

He is survived by his Mother Shirley Tarrant of Taylorville, IL; Sons: Jonathan Tarrant of Mt. Auburn, IL Jarod Tarrant of Palmer, IL; Grandchildren: Alex Tarrant, Damion Tarrant; Sister: Deborah Jo (David) Hill of Springfield, IL; Brothers: Joe Tarrant of Taylorville, IL; Douglas (Maureen) Tarrant of Taylorville, IL; Brian Tarrant of Taylorville, IL; Steve (Cindy) Tarrant of Mahomet, IL; Joeseph E. (Melanie) Tarrant of Morrisonville, IL; Nieces: Madelyn (Nick) Jones of Palmer, IL; Jessica Tarrant of Kincaid, IL; Angie (Phil) Miller of Springfield, IL; Kristy (Dave) Hebert of Pana, IL; Sarah (Danny) McNeeley of Taylorville, IL; Kelley Tarrant of Springfield, IL; Katelynn Tarrant of Mahomet, IL Alie Tarrant of Mahomet, IL; Heather (Chris) Winkler of Springfield, IL; Nephews: Ryan (Melinda) Hill of Norfolk, VA; Jacob Tarrant of Fayetteville, AR. Glenn E. Kohl of Taylorville

Glenn E. Kohl, 95 of Taylorville passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at 8:18 p.m. in Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville, IL. He was born February 18, 1918 in Edinburg, IL son of Herbert and Anna (Younker) Kohl. He married Mildred Smith on September 19, 1938 and she preceded him on January 12, 1985, and later married Mary C. (Hohenstein) Fulfer on February 2, 1986 and also preceded him on February 11, 2013. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville, Mound Lodge 122 AF&AM, Ansar Shrine and was a retired oil producer contractor in Cambridge, OH from 1968 to 1985.

He is survived by his Daughter Glenda Kohl Girten of Paco, TX.; Daughter-In-Law: Patricia Kohl of Peoria, AZ.; Step-Daughters: Judy (Fulfer) Thompson, Janet (Fulfer) Sockel, Nita (Fulfer) Norris and David Fulfer; Four Grandchildren; several Great-Grandchildren; and Several Great-Great- Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, Son: Ernest Calvin Kohl, Grandson: Scott Kohl, Four Brothers and Four Sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday February 3, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with burial at Sidener Cemetery in St. Elmo, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Monday February 3, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with Masonic Rites at 12:00 Noon. Pastor Lyle Thomas will be officiating.

Ralph T. Smith of Taylorville

Ralph T. Smith, 101, of Taylorville, IL,  passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at 3:59 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born October 24, 1912 in Osage, KS. The Son of Virgil and Florence (Anderson) Smith. He married Alta Mae Hill on November 23, 1938 in St. Charles, MO and she later preceded him in death on April 15, 2004. He was a retired farmer and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville, Ansar Shrine, Morrisonville Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and Christian County Shrine three wheelers. 

He is survived by his Daughters: Jo Ann Brown of Taylorville, IL; Sue (David) Barker of Tulsa, OK; Sharon (Roger) McCabe of Beaumont, TX; Charlotte (Donnie) Heberling of Owaneco, IL; Rose (Steve) Breckenridge of Taylorville, IL; Twelve Grandchildren; Seventeen Great grandchildren; Two Great-Great Grandchildren; Sisters: Elsie Anderson of Osage, KS; Alice Schneider of Plano, TX Brothers: Albert Smith of Overbrook, KS, Virgil Smith Jr. of Overbrook, KS. Darline G. Zini of Taylorville

Darline G. Zini, 94, of Taylorville, passed away on January 22, 2014 at 11:35 a.m. at Meadow Manor Skill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. She was born on July 24, 1919 in Edinburg, IL; the daughter Ore and Opal (Gardner) Stewart. She married John Zini in Chicago, He preceded her in passing on December 31, 1991.She retired from Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was a member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church. She loved to cook for her family, and she loved to shop.

She is survived by her son, Harry T. (Gail) Zini of Pawnee, IL; daughter: Patsy L. (Dan) Wright of Santa Rosa, CA; grandchildren: John S. Zini, Merissa G. (Tim) Leamy, Sasha E. (Dan) Grimes, Jeromy (Bobbi) Chevalier; great grandchildren: Carly and Collin Chevalier, Sophia and Nicholas Leamy, Donovan, Geneieve and Elle Grimes and John E. Zini; brother-in-law, August Zini Jr.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband John; daughter, Ginger Arnold and granddaughter, Kristill L. Bella.

Private Family Services will be held with a Celebration of Life gathering at a later date. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.

Donald H. Wells Jr. of Taylorville

Donald H. Wells, JR. 60 of Taylorville, IL died at 1:15 pm Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his residence.

He was born October 10, 1953 in Wells, Texas the son of Donald H. and Alice Caskey Wells, Sr. Mr. Wells was employed in home remodeling.

Surviving are his children: Shawn Wells and wife Caroline of Ladson, SC, Jedidiah Wells of LaFayette, LA, and Christina Wells of Mexico. There are 4 grandchildren: Tabitha Wells, Allison Wells, Shawn Wells, Jr., and Sophia Namer. A sister, Linda Sherry of Chicago and a brother, Robert Wells of Chicago also survive.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Taylorville.

Harry M. Turvey of Taylorville

Harry M. Turvey, 91, of Taylorville, IL died at 11:44 am Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 18, 1922 in Taylorville, IL the son of Charles Nelson and Mable Lockhart Turvey. On September 28, 1951 he married Jean E. Hadsall in Balitimore, MD. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2013. Mr. Turvey was a veteran of the Army Air Force in World War II and served with the Air Force Reserve during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville. He had been a foreman at Georgia Pacific and retired from First Trust Bank in Taylorville.

Surviving are his daughter: Susan Province and husband Bryan of Peoria; Grandchildren: Aaron Province and Anna Province; Sisters-in-law: Eleanor Turvey of Taylorville and Rose Turvey of Galesburg, and a brother-in-law: Lyle Danenberger of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sister: Darlene Turvey Wilkie, and Brothers: Everett Turvey, Charles Turvey, Carl Turvey, Raymond Turvey, Dale Turvey, Eugene Turvey, and his twin brother, Harold Turvey.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at McClure Funeral Home Taylorville with Pastor Jeff Grote officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday at McClure Funeral Home.

Virginia M. Turner of Taylorville

Virginia M. Turner, 96, of Taylorville, IL died at 5:10 pm, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at her residence.

She was born September 5, 1917 in Taylorville, the daughter of Frank and Georgia Hancock Neikes. On November 25, 1935 she married Richard Leroy Turner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1994. Mrs. Turner was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church , C.D.of A., ASC Associate of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, a volunteer at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and spent many hours volunteering at the Taylorville Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. She retired as the office manager at Spurling, Trost, Grant & Humphrey.

Surviving are her sons: Robert Turner and wife Nicki of Defiance, OH and Stephen Turner and wife Georgann of Taylorville. There are 6 Grandchildren: Becky Zimmerman, Rob Turner and wife Christine, Michael Turner, Christine Rivecco and husband Bob of Taylorville, Courtney Mohr and husband Dave of Chicago, Cindy Wagner and husband Mark of Taylorville. Great Grandchildren: Mia Rivecco, Kara Rivecco, Anthony Rivecco, Alex Mohr, Oliver Mohr, Sarah Wagner, Samuel Wagner, Matthew Zimmerman, Jordan Wagner and husband Matt, Megan Turner, Derek Turner, Kenneth Zimmerman, Caroline Turner, Macy Turner, and Jade Turner. Great-Great Grandchildren: Kamdyn Michael Wagner and Langdyn DeWayne Wagner. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers: Ed Neikes, Bob Neikes, and Eugene Neikes.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, January 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Sunday at McClure Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:45.

Charles Walter Bud Hawthorne of Stonington

Charles Walter “Bud” Hawthorne, 81, of Stonington, died in Decatur Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 13, 2014, at 9:05 pm after a brief illness.

Bud was born in Glade Spring, Va. on November 21, 1932. He served in the United States Air Force in Korea. He and his family moved to Stonington in 1965. Bud was a brick mason; a craft he learned from his grandfather, Charlie Lester of Glade Spring, Va. Bud was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for over 50 years. He retired in November 1993, after serving for 25 years as a foreman for Hilliard Masonry of Decatur. During his lifetime he laid over 20,000,000 block and brick, and took craftsman’s pride in getting every one of them just right. He will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family. His legacy will live on in the many buildings he worked on over the years and in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Annie Ruth Adams Hawthorne of Stonington; three sons: Dana Charles Hawthorne of Stonington; Gary Lee and wife Shannon Bohlen Hawthorne of Springfield; and Terry Randall and wife Nancy Campbell Hawthorne of Chilhowie, Va.; six grandchildren: Samantha Rae Farris of Taylorville; Joshua Charles Hawthorne of Taylorville; Alicia Pearl Ann Hawthorne of Hartsburg; Nathan Elliot Hawthorne of Stonington; Sarah Catherine Hawthorne of Christiansburg, Va.; and Stephen Campbell Hawthorne of Chilhowie, Va; four great-grandchildren: Tyler Christopher Nicholas Farris, Devin Gabe Farris, and Jenna Elaine Farris, all of Taylorville; and Aidan Laurel Donovan of Hartsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents: French and Juanita “Dean” Hawthorne of Glade Spring, Va.; and his two brothers and sister: Howard Hawthorne, Jim Hawthorne, and Shirley Bowers, all of Glade Spring, Va.

The family is being served by McClure Funeral Home of Taylorville. According to Bud’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. He will be cremated.

Sean M. Anderson, 46, of Kincaid, IL passed away at 11:20 am Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

Sean was born October 27, 1967 in Springfield, IL the son of Paul E. “Gene” and Iris K. (Schulte) Anderson. He married April L. Schmedeke on June 22, 1999 in Mobile, AL and she preceded him in death October 5, 2012.

Sean was a 1985 graduate of South Fork Community High School. Former Technical Sergeant Sean M. Anderson proudly served as Fire Department Chief in the 183d Civil Engineering Squadron of the 183d Fighter Wing, Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, Springfield, IL. He was deployed over-seas in 2002 in support of Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom and received Commendation Medals. He retired from the Air National Guard February 8, 2006 after 20 years of service.

Surviving are his mother Iris Anderson of Bulpitt, IL 3 sons Casey Anderson of Bulpitt, IL Matthew (Heather) Anderson of TX, Dean Ellis of Kincaid, IL 3 daughters Lissa Anderson of Kincaid, IL Tessa Anderson and Emma Anderson both of Bulpitt, IL grandchildren Lilly Anderson and Logan along with his sister Shannon (Michael) Lawrence of Kincaid, IL a nephew Branden Lawrence and a great niece Aubree Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his father Gene Anderson and his wife April Anderson.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Kincaid, IL. Funeral Mass will follow visitation. Loren E. Arkebauer of Taylorville

Loren E. Arkebauer, 82, of Taylorville, passed away on January 12, 2014 at 8:22 a.m. at Meadow Manor Skill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on May 15, 1931 in Palmer, IL; the son Edward and Mary (Moos) Arkebauer. He married Norvella Robinett on June 15, 1958 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL. He retired from the Bridgestone Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, a life member of the Leslie-Reddick American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville, IL and VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville. He also was a member of the Firestone Retirees. He loved being with the love of his life his wife Norvellla and their beautiful family. He also enjoyed all kinds of open wheel racing, especially attending the Indianapolis 500 for 50 consecutive years. He enjoyed taking trips to see the USA on his motorcycle, loved playing his saxophone and listening to beautiful music. He cherished the time spent with his Korean War buddies and fellow Firestone retirees. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his wife, Norvella; son, Rex (Nichole) Arkebauer of Greenview, IL; daughters: Brenda (Andy) Levin of DE, and Kim (Kevin)) Shute of FL; grandchildren: Joshua Shute, Aaron Shute, Katherine Roten, Jessica Pedrick, Brittney Arkebauer, Adam Arkebauer, Sarah Arkebauer and David Arkebauer; great grandchild, Victoria Roten; sisters, Viola Murphy of Nokomis, IL and Thelma Anderson of Auburn, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in passing by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville. Pastor Rodney Blomquist will officiate the services. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Military Honors accorded by VFW Post 4495, American Legion Post #73 and AMVETS Post #29.

Dorothy L. (Brady) Busby, 92 yrs old of Taylorville, passed away Saturday January 11, 2014 at 2:15 p.m. at her residence. She was born on October 20, 1921 the daughter of James & Emily (Stouthammer) Brady in Bureau, IL. She married LeRoy Busby in St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Busby was a retired Office manager for Marshall Fields. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and she loved to play bingo and many times held the winning cards. Surviving are her son: Ronald L.(Mary) Busby of Springfield, IL, daughters: Donna J. (James) Correll of Boring, OR and Kathleen (Art) Guerrero of San Diego, CA, grandchildren: Mark Correll, Amy Bradford, Jennifer Hallenius, Melissa Ellis, Jada Banks, Lisa Salzer & Rebecca Dyer. Sixteen great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Busby was preceded in death by her parents, husband: LeRoy, 3 sisters: Leona McCoughney, Berniece Labrack and Darlene Duncan. Joseph Gilbert Leeper, 74, of Mt. Auburn, IL passed away at 7:20 a.m. on January 11, 2014 at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur, IL. He was born in Decatur, IL on December 24, 1939, the son of Wayne and Marie (Bramel) Leeper. He married Linda Rae Carter on January 11, 1964 in Mt. Auburn; she preceded him in death on March 13, 2012. Mr. Leeper was a farmer and also worked at DeKalb, Monsanto and Bordens. He was a member of the Berea Christian Church in Mt. Auburn. He also belonged to Kedron Lodge #340, A.F. & A.M. and Kedron Chapter #529 of the O.E.S. in Mt. Auburn. He is survived by his son, Michael (Jeri) Leeper of Mt. Auburn, IL; daughter, Michelle (Robert) Usher of Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Olivia and Eli Usher; brother, Charles “Ike” (Carol) Leeper of Niantic, IL; sisters-in-law: Judy Leeper of Champaign, IL and Beverly Gideon of Mt. Auburn; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Leeper was preceded in passing by his parents, wife, and brother, Robert.

Evelyn M. Hornbuckle, 100, of Marion, IA, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away on January 7, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at Summit Pointe Senior Living Center in Marion, IA. She was born on July 6, 1913, the daughter of Robert and Judith Stanbery. She married Henry R. Hornbuckle on August 2, 1933 they were married for 67 years. He preceded her in passing on July 20, 2001. She was a farmer’s wife. She worked side-by-side with her husband in the fields. She also raised 5,000 turkeys and 30 cows. She was a 50 year member of Tucusah Chapter #682 of the O.E.S. in Assumption, IL. In Evelyn’s lifetime, she grew up using horse and buggy, Model T and Model A automobiles. She witnessed the birth of flight and developments which included indoor plumbing, mechanized agriculture, television and much, much more!

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Larry) Shiley of Marion, IA; son, Jerry Hornbuckle of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren, Cindy Moore of Morrisonville, IL; Rick (Vickie) Hornbuckle of St. Louis, MO, Tim (Lisa) Shiley of Royal, IA and Shawn (Debra) Shiley of Marion, IA; eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, Henry; sister, Eula and brother Clark.

Brenda Kaye Clifton, 44, of Taylorville, passed away on January 3, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at her residence in Taylorville, IL. She was born on February 5, 1969 in Mendota, IL; the daughter of Jerry D. and Deloris (Carey) Organ. She married Stuart Clifton on December 28, 2001 in Cadiz, KY. She was a waitress at the round Table Restaurant in Taylorville. She is survived by her husband, Stuart of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Sarah (Wes) Duckett of Finlay, IL; sisters, Jenise Everman of Butler, MO and Deloris Siefert of Shelbyville, IL; three nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in passing by her mother, Deloris Organ; brother, David Organ and sister, Deborah Organ.

Barbara Ann Atkinson of Taylorville

Barbara Ann Atkinson, 85 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 5:20 AM at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville.

 She was born on July 22, 1928 at Taylorville the daughter of Homer and Hazel (Pearson) Shetlar. She married James E. Atkinson on August 7, 1948 at Taylorville; he preceded her in death on February 2, 2008. Her parents also preceded her in death.

 Barbara was a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville, Presbyterian Women’s Association and Women’s Home Extension. She was a 4-H Leader and had also attended Mac Murray College in Jacksonville.

 Survivors: Daughter, Ann (husband, Noel) Brodsky of Champaign, IL; Sons, David (wife, Cindy) Atkinson and Keith (wife, Debbie) Atkinson both of Taylorville, IL and John Atkinson (partner, Dick Mathes) of Mt. Vernon, WA; 9 Grandchildren, Seth, Tristan, Nathan, Matthew and Rebekah Atkinson, Sarah Hunt, Ariana, Serena and Alyssa Brodsky; Brothers, Kenneth Shetlar and Jerry Shetlar both of Fayetteville, AR and Larry Shetlar of Bradley, IL; Sister, Lois Freeman of Alva, FL; Sister in law, Margie Dobson of Springfield, IL; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Howard L. Stephens, 90, of Sharpsburg, IL passed away on January 1, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1924 in Taylorville, IL; the son of Roland and Mrytle (Peters) Stephens. He married Clair Faye Neal on September 25, 1943 in St. Charles, MO; she preceded him in passing on October 29, 2012. Mr. Stephens was a veteran of the United States Army He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, IL.

He is survived by his son, Danny R. (Marilyn) Stephens of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Bonnie L. Evelyn Katherine Jones of Langleyville

Evelyn Katherine Jones, 92, of Langleyville, died at 6:33 am, Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 31, 1921 in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of Angelo and Maria Reck Boff. On March 7, 1942 she married John Henry Jones in Biloxi, MS. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2004. Mrs. Jones was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her son: Stephen Allen Jones and wife Joy of Effingham and daughter: Carmeline Jones and companion Ron D’Ascenz of Lakewood, CO. There are 2 Grandchildren: Dana Milan and husband Brett of Plainesville, IN and Susan Claerbout and husband Andrew of Roswell, GA; 7 Great Grandchildren: Lauren Claerbout, Drew Claerbout, Nicholas Claerbout, Grace Claerbout, Elizabeth Milan, Brett Milan, and Alexander Milan. Kenneth E. Kenny Damery of Taylorville

Kenneth E. “Kenny” Damery, 86, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:55 am Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 7, 1927 in Decatur, IL the son of Joseph and Grace Himstedt Damery. On June 27, 1964 he married Barbara F. Galbraith in Alton, IL. Kenny was employed at Peabody Coal Co. Mine #10 and was engaged in farming. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, Knights of Columbus, and United Mine Worker’s Local 9819. Seeing his grandchildren made his day, and any foster child his daughter’s had was a grandchild of his. He was a devoted, loving husband, and best friend to Barbara for 50 years, and was a loving and devoted husband, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather

Surviving is his wife: Barbara Damery of Taylorville, Daughters: Debbie Prince and husband Bill of Taylorville, Barbara Watson and companion William Pearson of Taylorville, and Mona Ahrendt and husband Ed of Owaneco. One Son, Jon Damery and wife Tiffany of Herrin, IL

 There are 11 Grandchildren: Bill Wilkinson, Kenna Bertoldo, Jeremy Ahrendt, Dee Ann Wright, Becky Wicker, Jonni Damery, Jay Damery, Chance Damery, Sophie Damery, Drew Kassinger, and Alexia Kassinger. He is also survived by two sisters: Joann and Lillian. He was preceded in
death by his parents, son, Kenny Dee Damery, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Virginia B. Hebenstreit of Warner Robins, GA

Virginia B. Hebenstreit, 103, of Warner Robins, GA, formerly of Tampa, FL and Stonington died peacefully Friday, December 27 in Georgia.

She was born March 18, 1910 in Marissa, IL the daughter of Joseph A. and Mary Ellen Calvert Pollock. On April 29, 1943 she married Andrew L. Hebenstreit in Oconee, IL He preceded her in death in 1955.

Mrs. Hebenstreit was a graduate of Stonington High School and Brown’s Business College in Decatur, IL. She was Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 209, and was Past Royal Matron of Majestic Court # 45 pf Amaranth in Tampa, FL. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at University Community Hospital, In Tampa, FL.

Surviving are her sons: John Joseph Hebenstreit and Charles Andrew Hebenstreit and wife Sara all of Warner Robbins, GA. There are 9 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren. There are several nieces and nephews including Janet and Gene Hurelbrink of Stonington, Sue Ann and Robert Young of Warrensburg, and Jim and Christi Pollock of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Brothers: Lester Pollock, John Pollock, Robert Pollock, and Dwight Pollock and 2 Granddaughters: Jennifer Hebenstreit and Connie Gary.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 5, 2014 in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Oconee, IL.

Charles Eldon Crowder of Tovey

 Mr. Charles Eldon Crowder, age 70, of Tovey, went to meet his maker, peacefully, with his family by his side at 7:50 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013 in Taylorville Memorial Hospital at Taylorville, surrounded by family and friends.

 Chuck was born April 10, 1943, in Taylorville, the son of Charles E. and Dorothy Durbin Crowder.  He attended schools in Morrisonville and Kincaid.  He married Margaret C. Jones on June 20, 1965 in Taylorville. 

 He was the first police officer in Tovey and held that position for several years.  He then worked as a deputy sheriff at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years, retiring in 2001.  After retiring from the sheriff’s office he was a part time police officer in Edinburg from 2007 to 2013.  Eldon was a member of the Taylorville Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M., 9th Eastern District of Illinois.  He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War.

 Surviving are his wife Margaret of Tovey, IL daughter Tami (J.R.) Griffin of Taylorville, IL son Troy Crowder of Tovey, IL daughter Toni (John) Moore of Russellville, KY, 4 grandchildren Jacob Griffin, Taylorville, IL Justin (companion Jordan Bunch) Griffin of Taylorville, IL Brady Moore and Brandee Moore both of Kentucky, 4 sisters Elaine (Roger) Lederbrand, Terry (LeRoy) Harris, Diane (Keith) Morgan, Susan (Jeff) Baird, 3 brothers Dennis (Janet) Crowder, Randy (Megan) Crowder all of Taylorville, IL and Robert Crowder of Quincy, IL along with a great many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Gary and Larry Crowder.
