Sharon Tarrant, 75 of Taylorville passed away at 9:34 pm on Sunday, July 26, 2020 in her home.  She was born on November 5, 1944 in Taylorville, the daughter of Gerald and Mildred (Sparks) Hartel.  She married Archibald Tarrant on September 5, 1964 in Grove City and Archie preceded her in death on December 5, 2000.  She graduated from Sangamon State University with a degree in accounting.  Sharon retired after working many years for Christian County.  She was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church , BPW, and the Red Hat Society.  Sharon enjoyed taking part in chili cooking competitions for several years.  Traveling, especially spending time in Gulf Shores during the winter, was a joy in her life.  More than anything she loved her family and many dear friends.  
She is survived by her daughters: Tanya Holze of Poplar Grove and Erica Tarrant-Wilson (Daniel) of Hillsboro; grandchildren: Devon Holze, Phoebe Wilson, and Brandon Holze; siblings: Jerry Hartel (Carol) of Paris, Missouri, Marilyn Milewski of Chicago, and Jane McIntyre of Springfield; nieces and nephews:  Brian Traughber, Cydney Hartel, Jill Hartel, Penny Milslagle, Brooke Morris, Tiana Cooper, Daisy Richards, and Antonio Freemon; and several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Knox Michael Bradly Gatons, 18 Months old of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 1:02 a.m. at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on January 24, 2019 in Springfield, IL the son of Chase Gatons and Alexis Black.

Madge L. (Geiling) Perkinson, 94, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville.

Madge was born August 29, 1925 in Brocton, the daughter of Roy and Oceola (Cash) Geiling.  She married Eugene “Perk” Perkinson on July 11, 1942 in St. Charles, MO.  He preceded her in death on January 4, 2013.

Madge was a homemaker, and she assisted Perk with their family business, Perky Transit.  She was a devoted and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, where she was a past-member of the Methodist Women and active in Sunday School.  In her younger years, Madge enjoyed bowling in the local leagues, flower gardening, and helping Perk with the bus business and everyday duties.  Later in life, she loved attending exercise classes at the Senior Citizens Center.  Madge was also an avid animal lover, taking in many strays and nursing them back to health.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Hill; brothers, Leroy and Marion Geiling; and sons-in-law, Ronald Molohon and Joe Rodden. 

Madge is survived by her daughters, Dianna Molohon and Judith “Judy” Rodden, both of Taylorville; grandchildren, Brad (wife, Carrie) Molohon, Beth Peters, and Vikki Rodden, all of Taylorville; 5 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two special caregivers, Bonnie Collingwood and Tammy Morgason Fixsal.

John M. McClure, 84, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 5:04 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.

John was born October 30, 1935 in Mt. Vernon, the son of William Leuty and Laura M. (Beishline) McClure.  He married Nancy Everingham on August 3, 1958 in Fort Madison, IA, and they later divorced.  She survives him of Taylorville.

John graduated from Taylorville High School, and furthered his education at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.  He then proudly served our country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in South Korea.  After his time in the service, John owned and operated McClure-Halberg Insurance and Real Estate until his retirement in 2000.  He was a devoted member of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club, and in 2019 he was honored by the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District with the “Amador Award” for his many years of service.  John was also a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church, Christian County Shrine Club, and the Taylorville Masonic Lodge #122.  In his youth he enjoyed piloting airplanes, and in his later years boating and spending time at his lake lot.

John is survived by his children, Dr. J. Miles McClure II of Saginaw, MI, Casey (wife, Toni) McClure of Taylorville, and Lynn (husband, Ron) Fleming of Taylorville; grandchildren, Abbey McClure, Carey McClure, Elizabeth McClure, and Jack McClure, all of Ohio, Adam (wife, Brittani) McClure of Taylorville, Alexander McClure of Florissant, MO, Alexis McClure of Taylorville, Carly Fleming of Kirkwood, MO, and Heath Fleming of Taylorville; great grandson, Ryen McClure; sister-in-law, Sheary McClure of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William L. McClure.

Private family ceremonies with military honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

She was born on July 4, 1924 in Mt. Vernon, IL the daughter of Ed and Louise Heil. She married Wayne L. McKinney on September 10, 1949 in the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, IL. Geraldine was a homemaker, she loved to Cook and she especially loved her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville.

Wileen “Sue” (Skinner) Hendricks, 66, of Taylorville, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020 at her residence.

Sue was born July 10, 1954 in Taylorville, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Oller) Skinner.  She worked for many years as a CNA, and taking care of people was what she did best.  Family meant everything to Sue.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville, and a member of Royal Neighbors of America.  Sue was an avid reader, especially of her favorite book, The Bible.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruby Helms, Alberta Delahunt, Violet Woodkirk, Betty Skinner, and Brenda Skinner; and brothers, Melvin “Bill”, Earl, Sherman, and Clifford Skinner.

Sue is survived by her son, Terry Skinner of Hobart, WA; daughter, April (husband, Jean) Abboud of Taylorville; grandchildren, Zackarayah, David, Aubrey, Destiny, and Brandon; 1 great grandchild; siblings, Larry Skinner of Blue Mound, Sheila Skinner of Taylorville, James (wife, Marilyn) Skinner of Morrisonville, Mary (husband, Claude) Grandfield of Blue Mound, Donald (wife, Brenda) Skinner of Harvel, and Clarissa (husband, William) Hirtman of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janet Marie Tarrant, 64, of Mt. Auburn, passed away at 12:02 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Prairie Creek Village in Decatur.

Janet was born February 22, 1956 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Melvin and Fern (Stephens) Alexander.  She worked for many years providing in-home healthcare to senior citizens.  Janet also worked for HD Smith in Springfield, as well as for Moffitt Funeral Home in Morrisonville as a receptionist.  She was a member of the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ, and she volunteered for many years at the Morrisonville-Palmer Food Pantry.  Janet loved playing BINGO with her friends, and she enjoyed yard sales, mushroom hunting, picking berries, and vegetable gardening.  Most of all, she enjoyed being a mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jarod A. Tarrant; and son-in-law, Tommy Wiseman.

Janet is survived by her children, Christina Wiseman of Palmer, JayR Tarrant of Morrisonville, and Jonathan (Elise Fryman) Tarrant of Mt. DeLilah K Varner, 78, of Macon, IL passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at her daughters’ residence in Edinburg, IL. She was born on June 17, 1942 in Lodge, IL the Daughter of Robert and Wanda (Parker) Helm. She married Roger Varner in April of 1985.
She is survived by her husband: Roger Varner, two daughters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son.

Donald Joseph Moutrey, 73, of Keller, Texas (formerly of Taylorville, Illinois), passed away July 11, 2020, with his loving wife by his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer since 2017. He was born on February 6, 1947, in Taylorville, Illinois, the son of William and Alice (Purkes) Moutrey. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda, on March 1, 1970. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Don graduated from Taylorville High School in 1965. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was a 50-year member of the Taylorville VFW. He was employed by Freeman United Coal Company for 14 years and retired from Pillsbury/Cargill after 25 years. During his career with Cargill, he was the Maintenance Director in Illinois, Virginia, and Texas. At work and at home, Don always loved a project and nothing was ever too big to tackle. Don was a quiet and unassuming man, who loved his family with all of his heart. He was a dedicated NASCAR, Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Mavericks fan. And, he never missed an opportunity to purchase his weekly Lottery ticket.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters Paula (Howard) Brown, and Lindsay Moutrey; brother, Ted (Colleen) Moutrey; brothers-in-law, Steve (Angie) Kocurek, Paul (Judy) Kocurek; nieces and nephews, Angela (Pam) Duncan, Todd (Gina) Moutrey, Melissa (Andy) Kerr, Kelli Kocurek, Shanon (Valerie) Kocurek, Charlee Kocurek, Kyle (Jessica) Kocurek. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob; in-laws Paul and Gloria Kocurek; and nephew baby Stephen Kocurek.

Mae Belle Christian, 88, of Pana passed away on Saturday, July 11th 2020 at 6:15 p.m. in her home.

Mae Belle was born on December 14, 1931 in Langleyville, Illinois, the daughter of William Arthur and Mary Elizabeth (Condor) Phillips. Mae Belle married Leland Christian on April 7th, 1947 in Taylorville, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1996. Mae Belle worked as a nurses aid at Pana Community Hospital for 28 years. Mae Belle loved to play bingo.

Richard Sutton, 68 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 7:04 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on January 22, 1952 in Taylorville, IL the son of Harold and Phyllis (Schaefer) Sutton. He married Tammie Smith on December 30, 1982 in Taylorville, IL. Rick was a retired police officer from the Taylorville Police Department. He served as Police Chief for Nokomis and Morrisonville Police Departments. Rick also worked as a part time officer for Edinburg and Harvel Police Departments and served as Deputy Coroner for the Christian County Coroner’s office for 13 years. He was a member of the Pawnee Masonic Lodge # 675 AF & AM, The Police Benevolent Association, and VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville.
He is survived by his Wife: Tammie Sutton of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Ashley (Mike) Kerney of Dade City, FL; Grandchildren: Rian and Jacob Kerney; Sisters: Pam Holder of Tucson, AZ; Trish Haines of Tucson, AZ; Step-Mother: Rosalie Magos of Taylorville, IL; Mother-in-Law: Mary Porter of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Larry L. Uhrick, 79, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Larry was born July 2, 1941 in Hartford City, IN, the son of Harry and Pearl (Ludwig) Uhrick.  He married Mary Ellen Oller on July 4, 1980.  Larry proudly served our country in the United States Army, and then worked for Bunn-O-Matic in Springfield for many years.  He was a past-member of the Moose Lodge #1516, and he was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #4495.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Sanders; brother, Orla Uhrick; step-sons, David, J.R., and Danny Smith, and Timothy and Tony Beeson; and step-daughters, Monica Hughes, and Kelly Jo Beeson.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Uhrick of Taylorville; step-sons, Edward (wife, Pam) Smith of Killeen, TX, and Mark Beeson of Taylorville; step-daughters, Denise Beeson of Longview, TX, and Nina Worker of Pana, IL; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and brother, Charles (wife, Deloris) Uhrick of Port Richey, FL.

On Monday, July 6, 2020, WWII Veteran, Lee Edward Fisher, loving husband of 72 years, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away at the age of 94 at Deaconess Hospice Center in Evansville, IN.  Lee was born on April 25, 1926 in Owaneco, IL to Jess and Josephine Fisher.  

Lee was a true American patriot.  After high school, he enlisted in the Navy to serve his country during WWII.  This was one of his proudest accomplishments.  Returning from the war, Lee and his father Jess founded Fisher's Meatpacking Plant and Restaurant.  Several years later, Lee made his way to the University of Illinois at Champaign, family in tow, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. 

Service was a major theme in Lee Fisher's life.  After graduation he came back to Owaneco to take over the business from his father.  Lee and his wife, Catherine, operated Fisher's until their retirement.  During these years, Lee found time to dedicate himself to charitable work with the Masonic Lodge.  Lee was a Past Master and received a 50-year lifetime member award in 2002.  

Lee was also a very adventurous man.  To keep his pilot license current, he began taking skydivers up to accrue flying hours.  Not surprisingly, he tried it himself and became hooked - his last jump was at age 78, acquiring over 1,000 jumps in his lifetime.  He also loved snow skiing, motorcycle riding, and shooting pool.  

After retirement, Lee and Catherine enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and Arizona with family and friends.  But age didn't stop Lee from picking up another hobby.  Retirement gave him time to become a skilled wood worker.  Cherished family and friends have many beautiful bowls, cutting boards, and rolling pins proudly displayed in their homes.  

Lee's family and friends will remember him as prankster, lover of a good debate, kind-hearted button-pusher, and a wicked joke and storyteller.  Thank you to all of those who made his life so full and memorable.  He loved the life he lived.  

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Josephine Fisher; his son, Neil Fisher; and his sister, Charlotte Bentley.  Lee will be missed every day by his wife, Catherine Fisher; two daughters and son-in-law, Marcia Lutz, and Kathy and Gordon Freisinger; four grandchildren, Kara Freisinger, Lindsay and Ian Grieves, Jodie Parks, and Abby and Curtis Kremer; and four great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Matilda Grieves, and George and Oliver Kremer.  

Lee will be laid to rest in the family plot in Owaneco cemetery surrounded by immediate family due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Sharon Jo Kramer, 73, of Taylorville, passed away at 8:23 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at home with her family at her side.

Sharon was born May 14, 1947 in Taylorville, the daughter of Clarence and Marcella (Redman) Denning.  She married Bernard “Barney” Kramer on April 4, 1985 in Paducah, KY.  He preceded her in death on March 4, 2017.

Sharon graduated from Taylorville High School in 1965.  She worked for Essen Hardware, Davis Memorial Christian Church, Christian County Medical Clinic, and then retired from Springfield Clinic.  Sharon was a devoted and active member of Davis Memorial Christian Church, where she was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.  Sharon went out to eat with “The Girls” every Wednesday night at Whit’s End, and she loved vacationing at her timeshare in Pigeon Forge.  

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan (Dunn) Pumphrey; sister, Ruth Ann Hendricks; and step-son, Randy Kramer.

Sharon is survived by her children, Bob (wife, Paula) Dunn, and Gena Dunn, both of Taylorville; grandchildren, Danielle Morrison, Garrett Pumphrey, Cassie (husband, Brandon) Rush, Clinton Pumphrey, Ellie Pumphrey, Savanah (fiancé, Evan Burgett) Dunn, Marissa Heinz, and Quint Dunn; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Rush, Victoria Pumphrey, Kaden Rush, Christopher Pumphrey, and Beckett Rush; sister, Janet (husband, David) Hendricks of Taylorville; step-daughter, Deb Kramer; step-daughter-in-law, Kay Kramer; step-grandchildren, Mike Kramer, and Krista (husband, Andy) Turner; step-great-grandchildren, Arlo Turner, and Sophie Kramer; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation:  The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville.  In keeping with CDC guidelines, only 50 guests at a time will be allowed to visit in the funeral home.

Private family ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Kerns officiating.

Interment will follow the ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Ellen Kay Woods, 74 of Taylorville passed away at 2:02pm, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on June 25, 1946 in Pontiac, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence Wesley and Geraldine (Anderson) Mies.  Ellen and her family moved to Waverly in 1954 and she still has relatives in that area.  Ellen earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at the University of Illinois.  While at the U of I she was a member of and quite active in 4-H House until she married Robert Woods in December of 1967.  She traveled with her husband and worked as a librarian or teacher at Ft. Benning, Georgia, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, and a 1 ½ years in Germany from 1969 to 1972.  Ellen earned her Library Science Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her family returned to the Taylorville family farm in 1975 where she worked as an elementary school librarian at the Decatur Schools for many years until she began helping her husband farm.  She was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church.  Ellen was devoted to her family and loved her daughters and grandchildren dearly.  She was an avid reader and loved visiting and corresponding with family and friends.  

She is survived by her husband: Rob Woods of Taylorville; daughters: Stephanie Freier (Ross) of Modesto, California and Valerie Pasqua (Don) of New Lenox, Illinois;  grandchildren: Mahalia Freier, Chloe Freier, Donny Pasqua, Katie Pasqua, and Cici Pasqua; and siblings: Jane Hall (Dick) of Auburn, Ed Mies (Jean Ann) of Waverly, David Mies, (Sharron) of Mahomet, and Vera O’Donnell (Patrick) of Springfield.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family service will be held with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Wares Grove Cemetery. A video recording of the service will be shared on the funeral home website following the service. Jill Parker, 50, of Taylorville passed away at 4:48pm on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born on August 9, 1969 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbur Dean Diel and Phyllis Blankenship-Marshall.  Jill worked as the manager at Dollar General in Taylorville.  Jill lived life to the fullest, together with her previous husband, Trevis Parker, they spent many days traveling the country in Trevis’s truck, taking in the beauty the country has to offer.  She loved her time traveling, especially in the mountains of Colorado.  She enjoyed photography, motorcycle riding, long walks and drinking coffee on her porch while taking in nature.  Jill enjoyed cooking and trying new vegan recipes.  Music was a large part of Jill’s life.  She spent several years playing the drums with her band FJM.  Jill will be deeply missed by her family and many friends that loved her.  
She is survived by her family, children: Mikhail Findlay of Hannibal, Missouri, Paige Carl of Liberty, Illinois, and Chandler Grave (fiancé Devin Bessell) of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Kaelynn Klauser, Graceann Carl, Brantley Findlay, Eli Carl, Georgia Carl, and Violet Findlay; father: Wilbur Dean Diel of Taylorville; mother: Phyllis Blankenship- Marshall of Taylorville; sister: Dana Oldham (Doug) of Taylorville; brother: Alan Hathaway (Jody) of Quincy; nieces and nephews: Beth Oldham, Keri Oldham, Michael Hathaway, Jordyn Hathaway, Brad Bedinger (Alycia), Lyndsey Ringler (Mitch), and Stefan Bedinger (Bailey Reed); and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law: Lori and Tim Bedinger; and grandparents: Wayne “Bud” and Grace Blankenship.
