Tommy M. Perry, 66, of Tower Hill, IL passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL with family by his side.

Tommy was born April 23, 1952, in Pana, the son of Lloyd and Clairbelle (Cloe) Perry.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the International Horse Racing Association.  Tommy had a passion for racing horses, target shooting and the outdoors.  

He is survived by eight children:  Shane Perry, Amy Schneider, Vickie Giannuzzi, Heath Perry, Tommy Perry II, Hayley Campbell, Nolan Perry and Cheyenne Siuba; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Perry; sister, Penny Perry; and his beloved four-legged children:  Auggie, Emma and Frosty.  

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; wife of over 30 years, Edith (Ginger) Perry; son, Larry Don Perry; two brothers:  Lloyd Wayne and Gary Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Pastor Derrick Ritchie officiating.  Burial will take place in New Hope Cemetery in Tower Hill.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Dorothy Louise Mizer, 97 of Taylorville, passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 21, 1922 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the daughter of Russell and Helen Elizabeth (Ball) Hephinger. She married John Daniel Mizer on March 6, 1939 in West Virginia. John preceded her in death on March 2, 2006. Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a talented seamstress, making all the clothing for her children while they were young as well as draperies and other items. She served as a room-mother for her children’s classes as well as a Den Leader for her son’s Cub Scout Pack. Dorothy was an avid Bridge player and was a member of 2 clubs for years, playing cards well into her 90s. She served as the first treasurer for the Christian County Senior Citizens. Dorothy lived her final years in the compassionate care of Marcy McKinnon. Their years together led to a special bond. Dorothy was able to maintain her life at home and enjoy her daily activities as a result of Marcy’s unwavering support.

She is survived by her children: Dr. Ronald E. Mizer (Gloria) of Taylorville, Sandra Lee Eckhoff (William) of Bath, New York, John Daniel Mizer Jr. (Lesley) of College Station, Texas, and Elizabeth Ann Goodwin (Michael) of Dwight; grandchildren: David Mizer, Dana Frey (Matt), Jamie D’Inginni (Vincente), Kristin Merry (Thomas), James Goodwin, Susan Goodwin, Marianne Goodwin, and Katherine Goodwin; and great grandchildren: Ethan Mizer, Abbey Mizer, Merrick D’Inginni, McKayla D’Inginni, Arianna D’Inginni, Ashleigh Merry, Isabella Merry, and Nicole Merry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant son: Richard Dale Mizer.

The funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Eleanor A. Kammerer, 97 of Taylorville, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Taylorville Care Center. She was born on October 26, 1921 in Roodhouse, the daughter of Charles H. and Gertrude M. (Greenwalt) Garner. She married Leslie Conrad Kammerer on October 8, 1949 in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1984. Eleanor graduated from Our Savior’s Hospital School of Nursing and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse in Jacksonville, St. Louis, and Chicago. One of her proudest career moments was caring for Senator Bob Dole when he suffered injuries during his time in the service. Eleanor was an active member of Davis Memorial Christian Church where she was involved in many areas of ministry in the church. She was also active in many organizations within the community including the Kiwanis club, Taylorville Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and Auxiliary, Taylorville BPW, Red Hat Society, Christian County YMCA Board of Directors, and a supporter of the Taylorville Public Schools Foundation. She was part of the Taylorville Christmas Home Tour and Garden Walk and lead historic tours around the Christian County Courthouse. In recognition of her dedicated community involvement, in 2006 Eleanor was named the Outstanding Citizen of The Year by the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce. She had a love of traveling and enjoyed many trips throughout the years both in the country and to Europe. Some of her favorite trips were those to England, France, Germany, and Ireland. She enjoyed going to garage sales and had collected many antiques.

She is survived by her brother: Chuck Garner, wife Joann; niece: Susan Jackson, husband Alan; great nephew: Blake Jackson, fiancée Melanie Carden; and great-great niece Charlotte Jackson all of Taylorville and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister and brother-in-law: Chloe and Ben Waller.

The funeral service for Mrs. Kammerer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville with Rev. Bill Kerns officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Priscilla McDowell, 92 of Fillmore passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 7:40 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital Litchfield, IL. She was born on May 23, 1926 in Christian County, IL the daughter of Vernie W. and Wilma (Boyd) Masters. She married Alva W. McDowell on December 22, 1946 in Fayette County, IL and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1991. Priscilla Attended High School in Taylorville, Kincaid and she graduated from Ramsey in 1944. She then went on to attend Western Illinois Teachers College and Greenville College. She also attended Liberty Church in Bingham for many years.

She is survived by her Sons: Alva (Linda) McDowell of Hillsboro, IL; Alan (Nancy) McDowell of Bingham, IL; Arno (Alberta) McDowell of Fillmore, IL; Thomas (Marilyn) McDowell of Pasco, WA; Chuck (Nancy) McDowell of Hillsboro, IL; Fifteen Grandchildren; Twenty Seven Great-Grandchildren; Two Great-Great Grandchildren; Sister: Virginia Eller of Nokomis, IL; Sister-in-Law: Gloria Masters of Huntsville, AL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband and Brothers: Vernon, John, Loren and Omar Masters.

Hazel F. Ealey, 93 of Taylorville passed away at 2:21 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. She was born on March 19, 1925 in Tampico, the daughter of William J. and Nellie Elizabeth (Newton) Heuer. She married William G. Ealey on June 5, 1970 in Decatur. Bill preceded her in death on January 17, 2010. Hazel worked at an administrator at a nursing home in Tuscola for 5 years and later as a nurse at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist Church, Eagles Auxiliary Aerie #1425 in Taylorville and active with the Christian County Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by her son: Dale Gable of Taylorville; God daughter: Lori Ford and husband David of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Larry Richard Wheeler, 74, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Heritage Health in Pana, IL. Larry was born November 8, 1944 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Fred and Lucille (Thompson) Wheeler.  He married Donna Heiter, and she preceded him in death.  Larry then married, Martha Jean Neece on June 20, 1981 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, and they have been happily married for over 37 years. Larry graduated from Shelbyville High School, and proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He was ordered to go to Vietnam on July 26, 1967, where he was assigned to the 213th ASHC and 329th Tc Det. at Phu Loi Air Base.  He repaired avionics equipment on CH-47 Helicopters.  Larry received his orders to leave Vietnam on August 5, 1968.  Following his service, Larry worked as a Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy, and then the General Services Administration in Springfield, where he retired from in 2002 as a Procurement Agent.  He enjoyed wood working, model railroads, and was a Licensed Ham Radio Operator and enthusiast.  Larry was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #4495 in Taylorville.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Larry is survived by his wife, Martha J. Wheeler of Taylorville, IL; son, Rex (wife, Cassy) Wheeler of Mt. Auburn, IL; daughter, Hollie Wheeler of Taylorville, IL; brother, Fred Wheeler of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Mary Durbin of Springfield, IL; and many nieces and nephews

Thomas A. Black, 81 of Stonington passed away at 2:49 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born on September 9, 1937 in Taylorville, the son of Kenneth and Helen (Gleeson) Black.  He married Nancy Diane Cook on January 7, 1956 in Stonington.  Tom was a veteran of the US Army.  He retired from Caterpillar where he worked as a supervisor of planning and engineering for 45 years.  Tom also was owner of Black’s Insurance for many years as well as a partner in Stonington Fertilizer Inc. He served as chairman of the board of Illini Bank as well as the Stonington Village Clerk and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington.

He is survived by his wife: Nancy D. Black of Stonington; children: Leesa A. Stork (John) of Taylorville, Thomas C. Black of Carbondale, Mary C Curtin (Fred) of Stonington, and Ann Therese Lynch (Bill) of Taylorville; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and aunt: Bernadine Gleeson.

Sally Anne Ryan, 85 of Taylorville, passed away at 5:17 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Taylorville Care Center. She was born on February 25, 1934 in Pana, the daughter of George and Boneva (White) Tanner. She married Donald H. Ryan on August 5, 1953 in Missouri. Sally worked as a nurse for many years at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was a member of the Taylorville First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, shopping, and spending time with her many friends.

Sally is survived by her husband: Donald H. Ryan of Taylorville; sons: David Ryan (Amy) of Taylorville and Mark Ryan (Cindy) of Springfield; grandsons: Zac Ryan of Taylorville, Jeff Ryan of Denver, Colorado, and Jared Ryan of Springfield; and sister: Marcia Frisina (James) of Diamond Head, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Ryan will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville with Rev. Michael Evanchak officiating. Doris I. Hastings, 91 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 4:00 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on May 11, 1927 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Harry Nelson and Martha Isabelle (Carter) Hunt. She married Matt Busby in 1947 and he preceded her in death. She then married Ted Hastings in 1999 and he also preceded her in death. Doris worked as a cook in the Friendly Café in Danville and later at a nursing home in Decatur.

She is survived by her Brothers: Wilbur Hunt of Chatham, IL; Wesley Hunt of Kanyon Lake, TX; Sisters: Barbara Ann Fehrman of Nashville, TN; Carolyn Hunt of Nokomis, IL; Patricia Hunt of Nokomis, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Joan Rayona White-Somerfield, 96 of Taylorville passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 9:15 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on July 25, 1922 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Juluis and Helen (Rossel) Dase. She married Lloyd White in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1967. In 1988, she married Thomas Somerfield who also preceded her in death. Joan was employed at Taylorville Memorial Hospital for many years. After her retirement, she was active at the Christian County Branch of the University of Illinois Extension. Joan was a woman of deep faith, being a long-standing member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.
She is survived by her three children: Fred White and his wife Janet in Lafayette, Colorado, Joyce Johnson and her husband Ric in Chaseburg, Wisconsin and Louise Kennedy in Taylorville. Joan was blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered lovingly. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Life’s Journey in Taylorville and to the staff at Taylorville Memorial Hospital for the care that they gave to Joan.

George Enoch Anselm, 82, of rural Taylorville died on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Life’s Journey in Taylorville after a long battle with dementia. He was born on December 19, 1936 to Enoch and Ruth (Spates) Anselm.

As a young child, George and his parents moved from Glen Ellyn to the family farm in rural Taylorville. He became the 4th generation of the Spates family to reside in Christian County. George’s father, Enoch Anselm, traveled to America from Sweden at the age of 4, making George the first generation on his father’s side to be born in the United States.

George attended Taylorville schools, graduating with the Taylorville High School class of 1954. He attended the University of Illinois at Champaign, obtaining a degree in agriculture and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity during his college years. He returned to the rural Taylorville area after graduation to farm and marry his high school sweetheart, Donna Bell. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 21st.

George was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was on the boards of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, Christian County Farm Bureau, and Christian County F.S. He loved traveling with his wife, Donna, spending many winter months in Maui where he became an avid canoer in his senior years. He also spent many hours woodworking, creating beautiful handmade pieces that his family treasure and display in their homes.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years: Donna Anselm; sons: Aaron Anselm (Angie) and Alan Anselm (girlfriend, Ellen Beyers) all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Andrew Anselm (Julie), Alex Anselm (Meghan), Aimee Anselm, Isabella Anselm, and Victoria Anselm; great-grandchildren: McKenna, Charlie, Owen, Peyton and Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest grandchild: Ashley Anselm, with whom he shared the love of books.

The funeral service for George will be held at 3p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. William A. “Bill” Siemers, 75 of Taylorville, passed away at 6:15p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Taylorville. He was born on October 28, 1943 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the son of William F. and Lucile E. (Langenhahn) Siemers. He married Margaretta B. Merriman on October 28, 1997 in Taylorville. Bill was a member of Chicago Teamsters Local 710, and worked many years on the docks in Chicago before becoming an over-the-road driver. He was very active in his church, Taylorville Evangelical Free Church. Bill loved the outdoors and spent countless hours working in his yard and garden. He had a love of cars and owned several classic cars during his life, including a red 1967 Camaro 454-LS6 that be built from the ground up. Bill also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and working out. He had a love for music, especially the Blues and 50’s music, and also enjoyed playing his guitar. Bill and Gretta loved to travel, especially to Florida and out West. He leaves behind his beloved dog Freddie, who was always by his side. Bill was a beloved father, grandfather, and husband and was very proud of his family.

Bill is survived by his wife: Gretta Siemers of Taylorville; children: Lydia A. Brazeau (Craig) of Plainfield, Julie A. Jetzer (Michael) of Catawba, North Carolina, Barry Russell Rahar (Angie Hill) of Taylorville, and Rachel B. Rahar of Taylorville; grandchildren: Elizabeth A. Rahar (companion, Sarah Ginger), Victoria J. Brazeau, Tristin J. Brazeau, Adrian W. Jetzer, and Daniel M. Jetzer; siblings: Dr. Paul Timothy Siemers (Beverly) of Dallas, Texas, Carol L. Siemers of Nashville, Tennessee, and Robert M. Siemers (Kendra) of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law: Samuel Merriman; sister and brother-in-law: Molly and Larry Alaria of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 11:30a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Don Beetem officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday from 10a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30a.m.

Velma Marie Shaw, 103, of Taylorville, passed away March 11, 2019, at Hickory Estates of Taylorville.

Born October 4, 1915, in Bingham, IL, Velma was the oldest daughter of Cassie and Cecil Casey. The family lived in Iowa and in Morrisonville before moving to Taylorville.

She married Alex Shaw on October 31, 1936, and celebrated 61 years with him. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1997.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Shirley Shaw of Taylorville; five grandchildren: Dana Doucette and husband Scott of San Gabriel, CA; Brian Shaw and wife Lily of Sierra Madre, CA; Brett Shaw of Sierra Madre, CA; Joli Hohenstein and husband Clint of Forsyth, IL; Gina Williams and husband Mike, of Olathe, KS; five great-grandchildren: Bryce and Cole Williams, Seeley and Tucker Hohenstein and Kellie Doucette; great-great grandchild Julian Doucette Reyes; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, including local residents Philip Romagnoli and Shirley (Richard) Davis.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son James Shaw; siblings Verla (Hugo) Romagnoli, Viron (Marguerite) Casey, Vernon (Josifa) Casey and Lowen (Louise) Casey.

Velma attended Taylorville High School but left school to help support her family during the Great Depression. She was the oldest person in Christian and Montgomery Counties to earn her high school diploma when she returned to school in 1987. A long-time active member of the Christian County YMCA, Velma was a regular at exercise classes there until nearly 100 years of age.

For more than 50 years, First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville was blessed with the talents of Velma and her sister Verla, known as the “angel ladies” for the golden angels and holy families they created for the church’s annual Christmas bazaar. The sisters’ creations shipped all over the United States and to countries across the world, and were featured on the Today Show, in Country Woman magazine and in many regional and local media. They sold so well that the sisters created a student scholarship fund that was awarded through the church.

In addition to working in the home for many years, Velma was employed at Walker’s Variety Store and Sangamon Paper Company in Taylorville, and for many years worked as a professional seamstress from her home. She was also co-owner/operator of Taylorville’s Gas Light Motel for 15 years.

Velma was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Navy Mothers Clubs of America, and she served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was also named a Lifetime Member of the Presbyterian Women.

Virgil W. Gilpin, 94 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10:03 p.m. at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana, Ill. He was born on September 13, 1924 in Taylorville, Ill. the son of Marion and Hattie (Worley) Gilpin. He married Betty Webster on January 29, 1947 in Taylorville, Ill. and she preceded him in death. Virgil Worked as a coal miner and he was a member of the United Mine workers, National Rifle Association and VFW Post # 4495 in Taylorville. Virgil was a WWII Navy veteran and a purple heart recipient. He loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid collector. He also enjoyed teh game of baseball and was a life-long Cubs fan. Virgil coached baseball for the Red Bland Little League for many years.

He is survived by his sons: William (Laura) Virgil Gilpin of Taylorville, Ill. and Scott (Karen) Carroll Gilpin of Arizona; daughters: Rebecca (Norris) Hill of Taylorville, Ill.; Nine Grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and several Nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters: Veda Millman and Louise Wareham; brother Donald Gilpin.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Following the visitation Virgil will be cremated and there will be a graveside service at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Edna Mae Brandt, 83, of Pana, IL, formerly of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 9:01 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Prairie Rose Healthcare Center in Pana, IL.

Edna was born December 18, 1935 in Green County, IL, the daughter of Matthew and Verna (Book) Smith. She married her childhood sweetheart, Arthur Lewis Brandt, on August 29, 1954 in Green County, IL. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2018.

Edna graduated from Greenfield High School and was a homemaker and mother to her 6 children. She stated that the best years of her life were raising her children, and spending time with her family and friends. Edna enjoyed being outside, boating, camping, going to rummage sales, and helping others. She would always have time for the neighbor children, and if they visited at meal time, she would set another plate. Edna always had a large garden, canning the fruits of her labor, and kept things running smoothly for her family.

Her first job outside of her home was working as a house keeper in the Morrisonville Nursing Home, when her youngest children were in the later years of grade school. She then cleaned houses in Morrisonville, worked as a bank teller at the Morrisonville Bank, and drove a truck with Arthur for Buske Lines of Litchfield for 14 years. Upon her retirement in 2000, Edna worked part-time at the Morrisonville Grade School as a janitor, and then for Vickie Furnace at Stewarts IGA in the kitchen. Once fully retired, she spent her time with Arthur and their dog, companion Britney.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Lemuel Hicks and Albert Smith.

Edna is survived by her children, Mary (husband, Rich) Ladage of Taylorville, IL, Lee (wife, Kim) Brandt of Taylorville, IL, Danny (wife, Suni) Brandt of Litchfield, IL, Mike Brandt of Alton, IL, Cindy (significant other, Jim Paul) Brandt of Taylorville, IL, and David (significant other, Aimee) Brandt of Taylorville, IL, IL; 11 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Edward Smith of Oklahoma; sister, Esther Arnold of Wrights, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David L. Hawley, 87 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 5:23 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on February 22, 1932 in Odin, IL the son of Irven and Effie (Booth) Hawley. He married Pauline Pitts on August 23, 1950 and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2004. David served in the U.S. Air Force in France and Germany, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. David then furthered his education, receiving his associates Degree from Centralia Jr. College, his Bachelors Degree from McKendry College, and his Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. David began his teaching career in the Centralia School District; he also taught at Johnsonville, IL and finished his career in Taylorville, IL. He was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, participating in his Bible Study Group and spending time with his family that also loved spending time with him. 
He is survived by his Sons: Mark (Lynn) Hawley of Kell, IL; and Michael (Rhonda) Hawley of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Michael (Heidi) Hawley, Mark Hawley, Joni (Jason) Piscia, Joshua (Ryan Renee) Hawley, Jeffrey Hawley and Fiancé Rachel Krekel and Nine Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many wonderful and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife, Sisters and brothers-in-law: Vera (Russell) Stroup and Margie (Otto) Frimel.

T. Robert “Bob” Miller, 74, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Bob was born February 4, 1945 in Morrisonville, IL, the son of Theodore R. “Ted” and Roberta (Spillman) Miller. He married Janet Kay Deal on July 30, 1967 at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville. She preceded him in death November 7, 2000. Bob then married Heather Benning on May 27, 2003 at the Chapel of the Dove in Branson, MO.

Bob graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1963, and then proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, then Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam, and then Fort Riley, KS. Upon being honorably discharged, Bob attended and graduated from the United Electronics Laboratory in Louisville, KY, where he learned electricity and radio repair. He worked for many years as a self-employed electrical contractor, and spent his entire life helping with the family farm.

Bob was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, where he taught Sunday School, and served as a trustee for 4 terms. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville where he was past commander twice. Bob was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #681 of Morrisonville, Christian County Pork Producers, and an advisory board member of the Production Credit Association, as well as a three consecutive term member of the Christian County Board, from 1980-1992. He enjoyed camping, fishing, macramé, hunting, and target shooting.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Ina Claire Jedlicka Gardner, 89, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville, IL.

Ina was born August 10, 1929 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Arthur L. and Edna (Haenni) Jedlicka. She married Richard M. Gardner on June 17, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1999.

Ina graduated with honors from Taylorville Township High School in 1947, and summa cum laude from Millikin University in 1951. Upon her graduation, she accepted the position of Assistant to the President of First Trust Bank, and later worked at Gardner Glass Company with Richard. The Gardner family was active in scouting, and Ina served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, as well as a Girl Scout Brownie Leader. As a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of Ladies Aide, and served as Treasurer of the Congregation.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Byrl A. Jedlicka.

Mary F. Patton, 95, of Edinburg passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 1:35 AM at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born October 15, 1923 at the family homestead in rural Taylorville to Charles and Ethel Hatchett Weiser. She married William “Pete” Patton on March 30, 1942. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1997.

She was a homemaker and a devoted mother to her children, as well as a lifetime member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg, Il., where she taught the Nursery School children for over 50 years. One church member referred to her as “The Pied Piper of Edinburg” because she would drive around town on Sunday mornings picking up any child that wanted to go to Sunday School with her. She had children in the Edinburg schools for approximately 30 years, serving as a Room Mother, attending PTA meetings and sporting events. She was also a Cub Scout leader and a founding member of the Edinburg Lioness Club. Her love of gardening was well known as she could always be seen in her vegetable garden during the hottest part of the afternoon pulling weeds. She shared her abundance of produce with family and friends throughout the community.

She is survived by her 7 children: Greg (Sally) Patton of Atkinson, Il.; Renee (Ned) Dewhirst of Ft. Myers, FL.; Marcia (Tom) Whalley of Ft. Myers, FL.; Peter Patton of Edinburg; Shellie Oehler of Edinburg; Warren (Rhonda) Patton of rural Taylorville and Tammy Patton of Edinburg; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Also surviving are her brother, James Weiser of Columbia, IL and her sister, Janet Baumhardt of Monticello, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Jeff Oehler, and her brothers Philip Weiser and Warren Weiser.

Michael P. Frisch, 62 of Taylorville, died at 2:58 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2019 in his home.

He was born on May 26, 1956 in Bloomington, the son of Alfred and Oneida (Eads) Frisch. Mike worked hard and enjoyed his Kroger family, working for them just shy of 10 years. In his spare time, he was an avid reader and enjoyed sitting outside during nice weather and enjoying a good book. Mike had a kind soul and he will be dearly missed.

Gary L. Jones, 47 of Taylorville, died at 8:32 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2019 in his home with his family by his side. He was born on August 20, 1971 in Springfield, the son of Robert L. and Pamela S. (Cole) Jones. He graduated from Taylorville High School, class of 1989, and went on to serve in the Army and Army National Guard. He married Regina K. “Gina” Garren on July 2, 1993 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. Gary worked for PPG in Mt. Zion before becoming a police officer for the city of Taylorville. As a firearms enthusiast, Gary was a gunsmith, member of the NRA, master firearms instructor, and a concealed-carry instructor. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association, as well as St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Gary is survived by his wife: Gina Jones; children: Logan Jones, Kaylee Jones, Tanner Jones, and Dylan Jones, all of Taylorville; parents: Robert & Pamela Jones of Morrisonville; father-in-law: Harry Garren of Taylorville; siblings: Stephanie (Kevin) Monahan of Pawnee, Kim Jones of Taylorville, Jacob (Heather) Jones of Kincaid; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Lou Lunsford, 73, of Taylorville passed away at 8:13a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in her home. She was born on October 14, 1945 in Stonington, the daughter of Earl and Ruth (Miller) Coffey. She married J.W. Lunsford on February 18, 1963 in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2008. Mary worked at Taylorville Care Center and was a member of Moose Lodge 1516. She loved time spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived be her children: Terrie Campbell (Rod Murphy) of Taylorville, Robert Lunsford (Chrissy Taylor) of Taylorville, and Donnie Lunsford (Cindy) of Decatur; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings: Merle Coffey (Rita) of Bellville, Elsie Creason (Bob) of Nebraska, and Leah Bailey (Vern) of Bloomington, and several nieces and nephews. Reeda J. Kindred, 88 of Edinburg, passed away at 7:30a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on April 7, 1930 in Stonington, the daughter of Carl S. and Blanche (Reed) Stahl. She married Charles Robert Kindred on December 5, 1948 in the Stonington Methodist Church. Reeda and Robert recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. She worked as a beautician for several years, operating her own shop- Hair Mechanics, in Edinburg. She was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church. She loved animals, gardening, playing golf, and was a talented cook and baker. Above all, Reeda loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband: Robert Kindred of Edinburg; sons: Steve Kindred of Edinburg and Darrell Kindred (Penny) of Connersville, Indiana; grandchildren: Richard Kindred of Reno, Nevada and Jennifer Mitchell (David) of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren: Ian Steven Mitchell and Aria Kathleen Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Marcia Kindred; and sister: Phyllis Stahl.

Donna J. Piepmeier, 76 of Taylorville, passed away at 3:33p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in her home. She was born on March 18, 1942 in Taylorville, the daughter of Ferno and Mary (Baietto) Flahart. She was married to Jerry Piepmeier and he preceded her in death. Donna was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bocce ball.

She is survived by her children: Doug Brown (Carolyn), Diane Reid (Jeff), and Gary Brown (Kelly) all of Taylorville; companion: Ed Bialis of Taylorville; grandchildren: Aaron Brown, Macy Brown, Alden Brown, Ryan Brown, Paige Brown, Ross Brown, Jessica Avery, Kristi Reid, Sara Redfern, and Emily Redfern; and 9 great grandchildren. Don Anderson Jr., 63 of Mt. Auburn passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:07 a.m. at his home with his loving family by his side. Don was born on October 7, 1955 in Taylorville, IL to Don Anderson Sr and Alverna Faye Anderson. He was raised by his beloved great Uncle & Aunt, Maurice and Cynthia Hebenstreit, on their family farm in Stonington, IL. He married the love of his life, Geneva Himstedt, on October 14, 1973 in Litchfield, IL. His wife, daughter, son & his grandkids meant everything to him. He farmed the family farm for a number of years. He loved to hunt and fish. In his younger days, he loved taking motorcycle rides. Don graduated from Stonington High School and attended Richland Community College and completed their Paramedic Program. He was a Certified Paramedic and instructor. He worked as a Paramedic at Decatur Ambulance for several years. He taught EMS classes at Richland Community College and at the Mt. Auburn Firehouse. He was a volunteer fireman with the Mt. Auburn Fire Department for 45 years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Geneva; his son, Jeremy (Crystal) Anderson of Stonington; his daughter, Kristy (Joe) Carey of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, Trysten and Gideon Anderson and Trinity and Madeline Carey. He is also survived by a brother, Bruce (Caroline) Anderson; sisters, Carolyn (Chuck) Carter and Deb Sanders; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved uncle and aunt, his parents, & one brother, Dave Anderson.

Jean Ann Heistand, 82 of Bingham passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 5:30 a.m. at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville, IL. She was born on April 1, 1936 in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of Jim and Mary (Cook) Bumgartner. She married Harry Heistand Jr. on January 27, 1958 in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death in 2008. Jean worked as a homemaker and she helped her husband on the farm. She was a caregiver for her husband and she loved making crafts. Some of her crafts that she loved making were soaps, and her own cleaning supplies. She always had multiple projects going, she volunteered at Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and did nails for many years. She was a member of Woodside Community Church and Woodside Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her children: Steve (Debbie) Heistand of Springfield, IL; Jackie (Randy) Goodman of Fillmore, IL; Marlene (Bobby) Wood and Harry James Heistand both of Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren: Billy (Megan) Goodman; Tim (Melissa) Goodman; Amanda McNutt; Nathan (Katherine) Hebenstreit; Tyler Heistand; Sarah Heistand; Rachel (Yuki) Tsunono; Amy Davis and ten Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, and her Sister: Phyllis Dodson.

Martha R. Miller, 65 of Taylorville, IL passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 6:16 pm at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on September 19, 1953 in Pana IL. The daughter of the late James V. Palmer & Betty (Puckett) Temmen of Pana, IL. She married Donald Miller of Fillmore, IL on April 2, 1970. Martha retired from GSI in Assumption, IL. She was the owner of Used But Not Abused thrift store in Pana IL. Many years before this time, she worked for Salvation Army in Decatur and Springfield, as well as the Herald & Review and the SJR and prior at Taylorville Dress Factory. She volunteered at St Mary’s school as the playground supervisor and cooked for and was a member of VFW and Eagles in Pana. Martha was a member of the Pana High School class of 1974. Throughout her lifetime Martha enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, metal detecting, gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.               

Surviving are her mother: Betty Temmen of Pana; husband Don Miller of Taylorville; children: Betty (Shane) Osterholt of Morrisonville; Becky (Clint) Adcock of Taylorville; Kenny (Ginger) Miller of Taylorville; Chuck (Sandra) Miller of Morrisonville & Sandy Miller of Taylorville. Siblings: Phil (Gloria) Palmer of Pana, Wanda (Charles) Dumire of Mt Pulaski, Pam Morrison of Pana, Robin (Brad) Moomey of Owaneco & Judy (Darryl) Rothermich of St. Charles, MO. Grandchildren: Erica Schwab; Cassie Osterholt; Hailey & Caleb Adcock; Koady, Kolten, Kenny Jr & Kortinee Miller; Dax, Blaine, Claire & Bryant Stormer; Montgomery Miller, Kadeyn Kelmel, Rhianna Miller & Bo Guy; Great grandchildren; Shayna Schwab & Easton Burris. She was preceded in death by her father, James V. Palmer and brothers: James (Jim) Palmer, Herb Palmer and Vince Temmen.

Visitation will be held at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville on Friday March 8, 2019 from 11-1pm with funeral services to follow at 1 pm. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville Il. A gathering for friends and family will be at the Moose Lodge in Taylorville following burial.

Memorials in Martha’s honor may be donated to Martha R. Miller Memorial fund at CNB to assist in funeral expenses and remainder to fund St. Mary’s school playground.

Agnes Elaine Jones, 77, of Stonington passed away at 9:25p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 in her home. She was born on May 3, 1941 in Stonington, the daughter of Robert Leroy and Dorothy Elaine (Stroud) Graham. She married Charles W. “Bill” Jones on September 10, 1960 in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington. Agnes worked for many years at the Taylorville Community Credit Union and alongside her parents on their family farm. She enjoyed cross stitch work and quilting, reading, and working in her flower garden.

She is survived by her husband: Bill Jones of Stonington; sons: Mark Jones and Eric Jones both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Ryan Jones, Catherine Lagadia, Anna Jones, Carlos Jones, and Andrew Jones; siblings: Thomas Graham (Pam) of Stonington, John Graham of Taylorville, and Mary Ann Basil (Ron) of Decatur; sister-in-law: Cathy Graham of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: James Graham and Charles Graham.

A memorial mass for Agnes will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be from 10 until 11a.m. in the church on Tuesday. Erma Mills, 97 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 8:27 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on February 1, 1922 in Conwith, IA the Daughter of Elmer and Alma (Elder) Prior. She married to Orville Mills on October 3, 1943 in Taylorville, IL and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1986. Erma worked for many years at Mystore.

Judith Ann Craig, 72 of Chatham formerly of Pawnee, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 10:45 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on November 15, 1946 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Ernest and Lucille (Banning) Irwin. She married Edward Craig on August 29, 1965 in the United Methodist Church in Pawnee, IL. Judy worked as a switchboard operator at the Orthopedic Center of Illinois in Springfield.

She is survived by her Husband: Edward Craig of Chatham, IL; Son: Eddie Craig of Swansea, IL; Daughter: Kathleen (Matt) Crocker of Pawnee, IL; Grandchildren: Heather (Eric) Saunders of Bel Air, MD; Matthew (Kate) Crocker of New Berlin, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Jackson and Jonah Saunders of Bel Air, MD; Brother: Ernie (Linda) Irwin of Taylorville, IL; Sister: Karen Saner of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents.

Robert Leroy Quick, 88 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday February 28, 2019 at home in Taylorville. Robert was born in Taylorville on January 24, 1931, son of Luther Lee and Rhoda Mae (Hemphill) Quick. He was married on June 12, 1953 to Bette Lorraine Shafer in Taylorville.

He attended Taylorville schools, from first through high school graduation with perfect attendance throughout his education. He was a member of the class of 1949 at Taylorville High School. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and was a machinist at the A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company (Tate and Lyle) for 37 years retiring in 1986. He and his wife, Lorraine, built and operated Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken in Taylorville from 1985 to 1990.

Robert was a veteran during the Korean crisis having enlisted in the Air National Guard which was activated at the time. He was trained as an electrician to install lighting on air fields. He served from 1951 to 1954. He was a member of the Taylorville American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Bette Lorraine Quick of Taylorville; sons, Robert Douglas (Melissa) Quick of Alvin, Illinois; Lawrence Lee “Larry” (Lisa) Quick of Edwardsville, IL; daughter, Kelly Ann (partner Amanda Durbin) Quick of Taylorville; grandchildren, Miranda Leigh Quick (Herb) Simmons of Catlin, IL; Mindi Renee Quick (Derek) Martin of St. Joseph, IL; Cheyenne Quick of Edwardsville, IL; Valerie Quick of Las Vegas, NV; Caleb, Chloe and Ciara Manual of Taylorville; great grandson, Pete James Martin of St. Joseph, IL; many nieces and nephews, including Marsha Jean Edmonds of Tulsa, OK and Rhonda Mae Edmonds of Springfield, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lance Lee Quick, Luther Lawrence Quick; sister, Grace Elizabeth (Quick) Edmonds.

As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Arrangements for cremation were made through McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Taylorville.
