Zona Marie Heil of Taylorville

Zona Marie Heil, 93, of Taylorville, IL died at 8:45 am Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 14, 1921 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of James J. and Hannah Hergenrother Collins. On July 23, 1955 she married Charles E. Heil in Ashland, IL. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1965. She was a graduate of Ashland High School, MacMurray College and the University of Illinois. Zona was a beloved English teacher at Taylorville High School for 30 years, and had many wonderful friends some of whom were former students. Although she lived her entire life in Illinois she was a world traveler. Mrs. Heil was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, Catholic Daughters of America, Retired Teachers Association of Christian County, American Association of University Women, and St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by 5 Nephews: Mark Schwarm, Eric Schwarm, Kurt Schwarm, Kim Schwarm, and Karl Schwarm, and 2 Nieces: Lisa Bailey and Mary Howard. Great Nephews and Great Nieces: Wendy Owen, Conor Schwarm, Michelle Schwarm, Kelly Houghton, Stephanie Coons, Adrianne Bailey, Cory Schwarm, Breana Schwarm, Lindsay Bailey, Chad Schwarm, Jacob Schwarm, and Adam Schwarm, and Great-Great Nephews: Mark Schwarm, Eliot Houghton and Noah Schwarm. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, 1 Brother James B. Collins, Sister: Margaret Schwarm, and a Nephew Paul Schwarm.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. At her request there will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville on Thursday, September 4 at 11:00 am.

William Bill M. Vidmar Jr. of Taylorville

William “Bill” M. Vidmar Jr., 90, of Taylorville, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born February 19, 1924 in Taylorville, IL. The Son of William and Nellie Patterson Vidmar Sr. He married Irene Lindemann on August 19, 1945 in Ann Arbor, MI. He retired from a York Division of Borge Warner and also was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Vidmar also invented a Boiler thermostat, was the maintenance manager and installed the heating and cooling system in the Renaissance building now known as General Motors Headquarters in Detroit Michigan. He was also the owner of Viddy’s cab and Limo service in Taylorville and a Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville. 

   
He is survived by his  Wife: Irene; Son: Gerald W. Vidmar of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Carol Ann Hall of Oklahoma City, OK; Linda Vidmar of Taylorville, IL; Grandson: Chris Peters; Brothers: Don Vidmar of Springfield, IL; John Vidmar Sr. of Taylorville, IL; Sisters: Wanda Blount of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother Myron Vidmar, Sister Jean Smith


Funeral services will be held Saturday, August  30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with graveside military honors. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

Lois L. Rodgers of Taylorville

Lois L. Rodgers, 69, of Taylorville, IL, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 at 9:35 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville, IL. She was born March 3, 1945 in Taylorville, IL. The Daughter of Kenneth and Wilma Eson Cox. She married Davis Rodgers on November 8, 1963 in Taylorville, IL and he later preceded her in death on November 7, 1997 . She was a retired homemaker and member of Life Tabernacle Church. She loved singing, ministering, spending time with her Children,  Grandchildren and especially loved Jesus.  

She is survived by her Son: Laverne “Vern” (Judi) Rodgers of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Luenda (John) Belk of Taylorville, IL; Twelve Grandchildren; Seventeen Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded by: her parents, Husband, Son: Greg Rodgers,  2 brothers Everett “Bart” Cox, Lamoyne “Lee” Cox, 2 granddaughters Rebecca Marie Rodgers and Jean Belk Smith.

 Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August  27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. The Ministers presiding are Pastor Steve Robinson and Pastor Jim Wolfe. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Bonnie J. (Oseland) (Craig) McCandlish of Toledo

Bonnie J. (Oseland) (Craig) McCandlish of Toledo, IL—formerly of Teutopolis and the Crawford County area passed away on August 19, 2014 from Salivary Gland Cancer.

A memorial service to celebrate Bonnie will be held Saturday, August 23rd 2014 at the Toledo Christian Church at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. before the service. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL is assisting the family.

Born August 25th, 1945 in Taylorville, IL. Daughter of James R. and Kathryn R. Oseland. She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1963.

Bonnie leaves behind her loving husband Bruce W. McCandlish. Her children—Jeannie (Tony) Spivey of Charleston, IL, Jerry S. Craig II (Eve) of Nixa, MO, John D. Craig (Beth) of Chandler, AZ, Teresa (Tracy) Claiborn of Raleigh, NC, Christine (Larry) Schneider of Colorado Springs, CO, Andrea (Wayne) Henrichs of Normal, IL, Joyce (Mike) Montgomery of Greenwood, IN. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mother Kathryn R. Oseland of Effingham, IL. Sisters—Sharron (John) Turner of Effingham, IL, Cynthia Wright of Prescott, AZ. Brothers—Rick Oseland of Gilbert, AZ, Greg (Amy) Oseland of Teutopolis, IL. Sisters-In-Law—Dorothy (George) Cutright, Carolyn Auger both of Toledo, IL, and Donna (Phillip) Barnes of Manchester, TN. Many nieces and nephews that shared a special relationship with their Aunt Bonnie. Preceded in death by her father and 2 granddaughters.

Bonnie worked in the Grain & Merchandising Industry for many years including Siemer Milling Co., JM Schultz Seed Co., Etna Grain Co., and retired from C & H Gravel Co. in Greenup, IL.

George V. Letcher of Stonington

George V. Letcher, 93, of Durand Illinois, formerly of Stonington, passed away peacefully at 8:45 am, August 19, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born November 12, 1920 in Stonington the son of Thomas and Annie Gillespie Letcher.

George graduated from Stonington High School in 1938 and joined the Army Air Corps in 1939 where he served 5 ½ years, first at Chanute Field in Rantoul, Illinois, and then with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, 7th Fighter Wing, in Hawaii. On March 11, 1945 he married Algeria (Gig) Letcher, who preceded him in death on November 22, 2012.

George was a member of First Baptist Church, Stonington, where he served as Deacon and Trustee, and of the Zue VanDeveere American Legion Post # 257, Stonington. He was a Trustee for Stonington Township, Boy Scout Leader, and Volunteer firefighter for the Stonington Volunteer Fire Department. George with his wife Gig owned and operated Letcher’s Grocery Store in Stonington for 24 years, and retired from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, State of Illinois.

Surviving are sons, George Earl Letcher and wife Beverley of Durand Illinois; and Gail Edward Letcher and wife Darlene of Red Bud Illinois; grandchildren, Kathy (Bob) Letterman and husband Bob of Appleton Wisconsin; Andy Letcher and wife Krista of Arlington Heights Illinois; Amy  Letcher and fiancé Jeff Wasil of Wadsworth Illinois; David Letcher and wife Alyssa of Burlington Kentucky; Hilary Hobbs and Elex, St. Louis  Missouri; Andrea Letcher-Martin and husband Steven of Red Bud Illinois; Adam Letcher, Chicago Illinois; Michael Letcher, Red Bud Illinois; great grandchildren, Zoe Hobbs; Luke Letcher; Hannah Letcher; Kailynne Martin, and sister, Caroline Murray, Vandalia Illinois.

George was preceded in death by wife, Algeria (Gig), parents, and two brothers, Earl Letcher and Thomas Letcher.

Funeral will be at the First Baptist Church of Stonington at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23 with Rev. Dr. William Mitchell officiating. Visitation on Friday, August 22, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, Illinois, and from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church on Saturday. Burial with Military Honors will be in Old Stonington Cemetery, Stonington.

Evelyn Ruth Ruble of Decatur

Evelyn Ruth Ruble, 87, of Decatur, IL died at 10:25 pm Friday, August 16, 2014 at East View Terrace, Sullivan, IL.

She was born August 4, 1927 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Ray Loren and Ruth Oliver Moats.  On August 4, 1975 she married Raymond L. Ruble in Peoria, IL.  He preceded her in death on July 1, 1993.  Mrs. Ruble was a member of the United Methodist Church in Decatur, and had been employed as a telephone operator and also had been owner and operator of the Reservoir Tavern in Peoria, IL.

Evelyn had attended Taylorville Schools most of her school years and moved to Havana, IL the second half of her Senior Year.  She graduated May 24, 1945 from Havana High School. After retirement Evelyn moved to Decatur, IL.  Her greatest love was her family.  In recent months she was especially appreciative of the love and care she received from Harbor Lights Hospice and East View Terrace employees.

Surviving are her Step Daughter: Sandra Majors of Upper Marlboro, MD; Brother: Richard “Dick” Moats of Taylorville; Sister: Bonnie Hastings of Decatur, IL.  There are 4 Step Grandchildren and 6 Step-Great Grandchildren.  She is also survived by several Nieces and Nephews.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Brothers: Gene Moats and Elmer Moats, and two Sisters: Shirley Shepherd and Eileen McKenzie.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 21 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. Betty Coffey officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 20 at the Funeral Home.

Glenn J. Klein of Stonington

Glenn J. Klein, 68, of Stonington, IL died at 11:12 am, Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 24, 1946 in Dennison, Iowa, the son of Joseph Lewis and Mary Ann Schmitz Klein. On April 11, 1970 he married Sandra Elaine VanGeison at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Springfield. Glenn was a retired management consultant. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War, and was a member of the Herbert A. Littleton Marine Corps league in Mena, AR. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington, Knights of Columbus in Mena, AR, and Fourth Degree Knights of Springfield. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Stonington, and a 20 year member of the Optimist Club in Wentzville, MO and Mena, AR.

Surviving are his wife: Sandy Klein of Stonington, Son: Christian Van Klein and wife Stacey of Lantana, TX and Daughter: Jennifer Ann Klein of Taylorville. There are 3 Grandchildren: Catherine Renee Klein, Elizabeth Anne Klein, and Christian Van Klein II. There are two Brothers: Joseph Klein of Buck Grove, IA and Darrell Klein and wife Mary Jo of Omaha, NE, and a Sister: Mary Wingert and husband Ken of Onawa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 14 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service in the Church on Thursday.

Mr. Jesse Marvin McMillan of Clarksdale, IL passed away Sunday, August 10th at 9:25am at his residence.

Graveside committal of ashes will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 15th at Camp Butler Cemetery.

Debra M. Tomlin of Taylorville

Debra M. Tomlin, 58, of Taylorville, IL died at 3:49 am Monday, August 11, 2014, at her residence.

She was born November 23, 1955 in Decatur, IL the daughter of Leo and Freda Fitzgerald Lowe. On July 20, 1983 she married Fred C. Tomlin in Atlanta, GA. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2010. Mrs. Tomlin was a C.N.A. for 40 years and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her children: Sonny Shanks and wife Amy of Morrisonville, Jeff Shanks and companion Dorothy and Tonya Tomlin all of Taylorville, and Heather Tomlin of Farmer City. There are 9 Grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers: Leo Lowe and companion Stacy of Londonberry, NH and Kevin Lowe of Carlinville and a sister: Dixie Jones and husband Bob of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Mrs. Lois J. Rodden of Kincaid

Mrs. Lois J. Rodden, 73, of Kincaid, IL passed away at 3:40 P.M. Friday, August 8, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

Lois was born in Jellico, TN September 15, 1940 the daughter of James F. and Ethel N. (Meadows) Hyslope.  She married Patrick “Pat” K. Rodden August 23, 1980 in Vandalia, IL and he preceded her in death February 8, 2014.

 Mrs. Rodden graduated from South Fork Community High School in Kincaid.  She worked as a seamstress at the Cardinal Products factory in Kincaid.  Lois loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. 

 Surviving are 2 sons Jimmy and his wife Jackie Dean and Timothy Dean and his companion Jamie Curry all of Taylorville, IL a daughter Lori Miller and her companion Rick Williamson of Kincaid, IL 6 grandchildren Alicia Dean and companion Doug Spurgeon of Taylorville, IL Scott Dean of Taylorville, IL JoAnna Specht of Rock Island, IL Sydne Dean of Waverly, IL Alexis Miller and Braxton Williamson both of Kincaid, IL and a great-grandson Boston Donovan of Taylorville, IL 3 sisters Betty (Robert) Weeden of Crestview, FL Faye Wilson of Kincaid, IL and Della (Orie) Perkins of Williamsburg, KY along with several nieces and nephews.

 Her parents, husband Pat Rodden and a brother William Hyslope, preceded her in death.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday August 13, 2014 in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL.  Pastor Ted Merriman will officiate.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.  Visitation for Mrs. Rodden will be held from 11 AM until the service at starts 1 PM at Masterson’s in Kincaid.  Please visit her on-line obituary at mastersonfh.com

Helen Jean Burton, 83, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:10 am Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Taylorville Care Center.

James T. Ralph of Edinburg

James T. Ralph, 70, of Edinburg, IL died at 7:32 am Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his residence.

He was born May 19, 1944 in Taylorville, IL the son of Louis and Norma Ralph. Mr. Ralph was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War and was a member of V.F.W. Post 4495 and American Legion Post 79 of Taylorville.

Surviving are his sons: Brian Ralph and wife Colleen of Chicago and Todd Ralph and wife Amber of Taylorville; Grandchildren: Ella Ralph and Natalie Ralph. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 9, at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. Ronald Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home on Friday. Burial with Military Honors will be in Bethel Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

Roy Dale Oller of Taylorville

Roy Dale Oller, 82, of Taylorville, IL died at 6:34 am Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at his residence.

He was born October 3, 1931 in Taylorville, the son of Dwight Frazer and Nellie Jane Norris Oller. On May 8, 1955 he married Doris Jean Friedrich at the First Baptist Church in Taylorville. Mr. Oller was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville and retired from Borg-Warner in Decatur. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of V.F.W. Post 4495. Roy loved his family and was an adoring Grandfather who enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Illini Basketball, and playing Pinochle.

Surviving are his wife: Doris Oller of Taylorville; Children: Karen Fishel of Taylorville; Susan Hayes and husband David of Taylorville and David Oller and wife Jamie of Kincaid; Grandchildren: Heather Overstreet and husband Nick, Lindsay Barlow and husband Leroy, and Christina Hayes all of Taylorville, Megan Oller of Collinsville, and Hailey Oller of Kincaid; Great Granddaughter: Amelia Overstreet of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Oller.

Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 pm Friday, August 8 at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 4495, American Legion Post 73, and AmVets Post 29. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Funeral Home on Friday.

Billy G Bill Casey of Kincaid

Mr. Billy G. “Bill” Casey, 87, of Kincaid, IL passed away at 11:55 A.M. Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

On March 23, 1927 Billy G. Casey was born in Fillmore, IL to Vera (Cearlock) Casey and Harry Casey.

The Casey family moved to Kincaid for work in the coalmines. Bill, played trumpet, ran track and graduated from Kincaid High School. At 17 years old he joined the U.S. Navy. During W.W.II he served on the USS Montauck in the South Pacific, as a First Class Seaman and was part of the invasion of Okinawa. Bill returned home and in 1946 met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Loreth of Taylorville and married her in 1948 at St. Mary’s Church. They were blessed with four daughters and a son Donald who passed at birth. Bill and Patricia celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary September 25, 2013. Bill retired from the Peabody Coal Mine after 42 years. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus 4446, a member of St. Rita’s Parish, Kincaid American Legion post #905, Taylorville V.F.W. post # 4495 He always enjoyed family, cookouts, friends, bowling, the riverboat, and a game of golf, and was most proud of his chili, garlic and bagna. Mr. Casey loved his church, children, grandchildren, hot sauce, growing garlic, vacationing in Florida, playing bocce ball, reading western novels and traveling.

Bill is survived by his wife Patricia of Kincaid, IL 4 daughters Carol Sedlock and husband Gary of Kincaid, IL Susan Torricelli of Taylorville, IL Barbara Conrath husband Rick of Lombard, IL Brenda Kennett husband Bill of Chatham, IL 5 grandchildren Casey Dively and husband Josh, Kyle Kennett, Ryan Kennett, Kevin Conrath and Meagan Conrath and a great grandchild Marley Dively along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vera and Harry, a son Donald Lee Casey, 2 sisters Saphrona and Becky and a brother Halden.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in St. Rita Catholic Church, Kincaid. Fr. Alan Hunter will officiate. Burial with full military honors by Taylorville V.F.W. Post #4495 and the U.S. Navy along with a short service by the retired coal miners will immediately follow the funeral mass at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Visitation for Mr. Casey will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday August 5, 2014 in Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid. A short prayer service will begin the visitation at 4:45 P.M.

Frances Jane Jenkins Ostermeier Abel of Taylorville

Frances Jane Jenkins Ostermeier Abel, 92, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:21 am Thursday, July 31, 2014 at her residence.

She was born March 11, 1922 in Griggsville, IL the daughter of Walter and Margaret Tabor Jenkins. She was first married to Karl Ostermeier in 1940 and he preceded her in death. She later married Albert Abel on March 11, 1972 and he died in April 1973.

Frances was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville. She was a great bowler. Her high score of 280 was a fond memory of hers. She was an L.P.N. at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville Care Center, and Meadow Manor Nursing Home. She was a hard worker and helped her daughter care for triplets and her granddaughter care for her two children. She helped several community members stay in their homes during their illnesses. After receiving her L.P.N. Degree she also helped another student receive their degree. Frances always had a dog at her side. She was thought of as angelic and sunshine by her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children: Barbara Canioin and husband Rev. Daniel of New Braunfels, TX, Terrence Ostermeier and wife Shirley of Taylorville, Linda McDermith of Springfield, Karen Kramer and husband Rev. Carl of Collinsville, CT, and Virginia Ostermeier of Decatur, IL. There are 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, and 2 brothers.

Private Family Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating.
