Carolyn L. Prose

Carolyn L. Prose, 73, of Morrisonville, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023, at her residence.

Carolyn was born April 10, 1949, in Taylorville, the daughter of Loren A. “Bill” and Gladys L. (O’Brien) Prose.  She graduated from Morrisonville High School with the Class of 1967, and went to work for the State of Illinois.  Shortly after, Carolyn gained employment with Timberlake Sales, where she would retire after nearly 40 years of service.  She then went on to work for Christian County Mental Health for several years.  Carolyn was an avid traveler, especially enjoying cruises and her trips to Greece, Jamaica, and Hawai’i.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Edward and Doc Prose.

Carolyn is survived by her brother, Carl (wife, Mary) Prose of Streamwood; sisters-in-law, Sharon Prose of Morrisonville, and Micki Prose of San Angelo, TX; nieces and nephews, Jana (husband, Mike) Vartanian, Karen (husband, Dan) Kraus, David (wife, Dawn) Prose, Lynda (wife, Lynn) Reuter, Jacinda Prose, Lex (wife, Rhonda) Prose, Jennifer Prose, Lauren (husband, Josh) Pratt, Stephanie (husband, James) Hooper, and Micki Lynn Ringo; several great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews; and numerous cousins.

Carolyn will be interred at Morrisonville Cemetery, and no public services will be held.

Ronald Joseph Lesko

Ronald Joseph Lesko, 85, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on February 27, 2023, at his residence. Ronald was born on February 17, 1938, in Pana, IL, the son of John J. and Valentine (Cousin) Lesko. He married Eva Mae Davies on December 27, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL.

 

Ronald is survived by his wife, Eva Mae; daughters, Beth (Joe) Kohl of Edinburg, IL, Elaine (Bill) Agnew of Jacksonville, FL, and Elise (Lee) Kelly of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Andy (Lauren) Meneghetti, Tony Meneghetti, Adriana (Santino) Nardulli, Thomas Meneghetti, Tyler (Kara) Agnew, Olivia Agnew, TJ Kelly, Flynn Kelly and four great-grandchildren. One brother, John (Linda) Lesko.

 

Ronald is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Henry Davies; mother-in-law, Marjorie Davies; brothers, Robert Lesko and David Lesko.

 

Ronald was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; he loved fishing, golfing, and gardening.

 

Memorials in Ronald’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Irene Stanley-Crosson

Irene Stanley-Crosson, 91 of Taylorville, passed away at 9:25p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on April 12, 1931 in Putnamville, Indiana, the daughter of Lenox Coleman and Luna (Prince) Crawley.  She married Walter George Crosson on February 25, 2004 in Okeechobee, Florida, and he preceded her in death.  Irene retired from General Motors where she worked as a machinist.  For over 50 years she was a member of various Moose Lodges and enjoyed playing bingo and gambling.  She enjoyed fishing, working in her garden, and never passed up a chance for a good meal or sweets.  She will be remembered by her family as a very special, strong woman. 

She is survived by her children: Sharon Stewart (Kent) of Arizona, Diana Key (Earl) of Altamont, Peggy Davis of Taylorville, James Hall (Lori) of Utah, Angelia Long (Chris) of Colorado, and Jared Hall (Susan) of Taylorville; 19 grandchildren including Victoria Hall who served as Irene’s caregiver for many years; numerous great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and brother: Eugene Crawley of Indianapolis, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters: Patty Hillman and Belinda Judd; and several brothers and sisters.

Ruth Ann (Hanauer) Vandemark

Our Earth Angel, Ruth Ann (Hanauer) Vandemark, 49, of Washington, MO, formerly of Stonington, earned her wings and flew with Jesus to Heaven on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at her residence.

Ruth Ann was born December 3, 1973, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Ruth Ellen (Vogel) Hanauer.  She was one of the last 13 children to attend Stonington elementary schools, and eventually graduate from Stonington High School in 1992.  Ruth Ann married Ronald Lee Vandemark, and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2013.

Ruth Ann held many jobs, most recently as a Housemother to cognitively disabled men in Marthasville and Washington, MO.  She didn’t know a stranger, and especially loved animals.  Ruth Ann was an avid reader of mystery novels, and she never missed an episode of “Supernatural”.

She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Earl and Dorothy Vogel; and paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Louise Hanauer.

Ruth Ann is survived by her parents, Ruth Ellen and Bob Hanauer of Stonington; siblings, Rob (wife, Kris) Hanauer of Taylorville, and Mary Gail (husband, John) Aleman of Russell Springs, KY; nephews, Robert and Connor Hanauer; nieces, Gloria, Ana, Crystal, and Marisa; aunt, Patricia Hill; uncles, Frank Vogel and John Vogel; and several cousins.

Cremation will be accorded, and no public ceremonies will be held.

Daniel Joseph Durbin

Daniel Joseph Durbin, 40, of Kincaid, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at his residence.

Daniel was born March 15, 1982 in Taylorville, the son of Joseph C. and Cathy (Simpson) Durbin. He married LeAnne Rice on September 18, 2004, in Blue Mound, and they later divorced. In his youth, Daniel was a talented basketball player and loved skateboarding. He was a lifelong fisherman, and he greatly enjoyed cooking, especially grilling steaks.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C. Durbin; paternal grandfather, Wayne Durbin; and maternal grandparents, William “Bid” and Inez Simpson.

Daniel is survived by his children, Alyssa Marie and Jordan Rylee Durbin of Mark, IL; mother, Cathy Weeks of Assumption; grandmother, Beulah Durbin of Stonington; sisters, Christy (husband, Shane) Summers of Tovey, and Theresa (husband, Paul) Maxwell of Owaneco; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at Ponting Cemetery in Stonington.

Darrell E. "Butch" Garrison

Mr. Darrell “Butch” Garrison, 57, of Tovey passed from this life Friday, February 17, 2023, at home with family by his side.  He was born in Springfield, IL March 20, 1965 the son of Dale and Shirley (Dodd) Garrison.  Butch formerly worked at Bunn’s and later Honeywell both in Springfield.  He enjoyed Golfing on PlayStation, riding Harleys, and was a former league bowler.   He served in the US Army.  Surviving are his fiancé Patty Owens of Tovey, IL his mother Shirley Barbee and a son Mike and Fiancé Caitlyn (Tinsley) Owens all of Springfield, IL daughter Alisha and husband John Barr of Tovey, IL., grandchildren Aaron, Jaxon & Ellie Owens, Bryson Tinsley, Kieryn and Kamdyn Snyder, 3 sisters Teri Rynders of Jacksonville, IL Traci Baker of Springfield, IL Toni husband Bruce Hill of Coal Grove, OH a brother Byron Garrison of Taylorville, IL., along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, a granddaughter Gracie and his grandparents Darrell and Letha Adcock.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid.  Funeral services will follow with Rev. Marjorie A. Griffiths

Marjorie A. Griffiths, 96 of Taylorville, passed away at 3:10a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born on January 2, 1927 in Taylorville, the daughter of Ralph H. and Irene A. (Dickinson) Hofener.  Marjorie was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville where she served as choir director for many years. She worked as a secretary at the Sangamon Company.  She was involved in many of her children’s activities while they were young including Girl Scouts and Junior Achievement.  She enjoyed playing bridge with her club for many years.  Marjorie was a long-time member of the Taylorville Women’s Club and the Sertoma.  Her dedication to her community was recognized in 2007 when she was awarded the Taylorville Citizen of the Year.    

She is survived by her daughter: Kathleen Knope (Peter) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Michelle Morell (Brett), BriAnne Hoffman (T.J.), Annie Plant (Josh), Marjorie Knope, Rich Holmes, Peter Knope, and George Holmes; great grandchildren: Lillian Van Winsen, Irelynn Holmes, Isabella Holmes, Benjamin Plant, Michael Plant, and Harper Hoffman; brother: Harold Hofener of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Valerie Holmes; and siblings: Helen Fischmann, Rev. Robert Hofener, and Norma Jean Brown.

Gary Dean Showalter

Gary Dean Showalter, 67, joined heaven’s choir on February 13, 2023. Gary was born on July 12, 1955 in Taylorville, IL to Dean Maurice and Marcella Fern (Spring) Showalter.

Gary was a follower of Jesus Christ, the most wonderful brother, a devoted husband, the best dad, and a very proud Papa.

Gary grew up with his loving family in Taylorville, where his passion for music was launched in the 6th grade through a lead role in the play “Huck Finn.” After high school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Eastern Illinois University and later a Master’s in Church Music Education from Scarritt College.

Gary’s longstanding joy of serving in church, combined with his education and God-given musical talents, led to a Director of Music career spanning 32 years and 4 churches (1981 Ft. Stockton, TX; 1986 Roswell, NM; 1993 Alamogordo, NM; 1998 Kingwood, TX where he married his second wife, Sonia). After retirement in 2013, Gary began his role as Chief Assistant to the CEO at Sonia Showalter Designs.

Whether at work or outside of work, Gary was always glorifying God through his selfless love of others. He was a celebrity amongst the toddlers as he played guitar while singing his original songs from many verses of the Scriptures. Gary’s smile, laughter, and joyful heart for God were contagious for everyone he met.

Gary is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sonia Showalter, his daughters with his first wife, Maria Showalter: Charlotte (Chris) Dragon and their children (Moriah, Gianna, William) and Heather (Travis) Turnbull and their children (Jerry, Louie), Sonia’s daughters: Jennifer Kluttz and her children (Tyler, Adam, John) and Shannon (Travis) Bencs and their daughters (Chandler, Madelynn (Maddie), Kensley), Gary’s sister Diane Nolan, nephew Brian (wife, Taylor) Nolan, uncle and aunt (Al and Rossie Showalter), and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Mike Nolan.

A visitation will be held at Darst Funeral Home (796 Russell Palmer Rd, Kingwood, TX) on Monday, February 20 from 5pm-7pm. Please sign the “Tree of Life” registry book upon arrival and bring your favorite photo memory (printed) to share and leave with the family to compile a collage for the memorial service.

A funeral service will be held at Kingwood Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 21 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.

Linda A. Shearer

Linda A. Shearer, 82 of Kincaid, IL passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 5:08 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 18, 1940 in Coshocton, OH the daughter of Russell Laird and Jean Tyson. She married Roy Shearer of Kincaid on June 24, 1967 in Coshocton, OH.

Linda worked as a pharmacy tech for Walmart for many years and was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville. She loved the Lord, her grandchildren and her cardinal birds.

She is survived by her husband: Roy Shearer; daughters: Joy (Brian) Bandy of New Berlin, IL, and Julia Shearer-East of Mt. Sterling, IL; grandchildren: Chris and Halle Bandy of New Berlin, IL; and sister: Nancy Donaker of Coshocton, OH. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother: Robert Laird; and sister: Janice Spinazzolo.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A memorial service will be held immediately after at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.

Lois Elaine Lederbrand

Lois Elaine Lederbrand, 76 of Taylorville, passed away at 5:04a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 in her home.  She was born on January 23, 1947 in Taylorville, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Durbin) Crowder.  She married Roger D. Lederbrand in August of 1967. 

She is survived by her husband: Roger Lederbrand of Taylorville; children: Brian Lederbrand of Taylorville and Shawn Tucker of Fayetteville, Tennessee; grandchildren: Kailey, Allison, and Gracie Lederbrand, and Garrett Pfeifer; sisters: Terry (Leroy) Harris, Diane (Keith) Morgan, Susan (Jeff) Baird; brothers: Robert Crowder, Dennis (Janet) Crowder, and Randy (Megan) Crowder; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Eldon, Gary, and Larry and sister: Mary-Kay

James Carlyle Lindsey

James Carlyle Lindsey, 46 of Taylorville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2023 in rural Taylorville.  He was born on April 26, 1976, the son of James and Kathy (White) Lindsey.  Jim graduated from Taylorville High School in 1994 and was a member of the golf team.  Following high school, he attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.  Jim was the owner of Abe’s Power Washing in Taylorville.  He enjoyed spending time outside fishing, metal detecting, treasure hunting and looking for fossils. Jim also enjoyed painting, reading the bible, and was a member of the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by many. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.  Our hearts will never be the same until we meet again. 

He is survived by his children: Preston James Lindsey (Amber) of Sikeston, Missouri, Faith Kathleen Lindsey of Taylorville, Edee Jean Lindsey and Zoey Bee Lindsey both of Hillsboro; parents: Jim and Kathy Lindsey of Taylorville; sister: Molly Friesland (Charles) of Nokomis; nephew: Spencer Lilly of Taylorville; aunts and uncles: Sheryl and Max Klemm, Carla and Don Readhead, Beth and Steve Markwell, Judy Adams, and Jane Kutch; and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Paul James Lindsey, Pauline Lindsey, Carlyle White, and Harriet White; and uncles: Lyle Adams and Warren Kutch.

Dontrell DeAngelo Franks Sr

Dontrell DeAngelo Franks Sr., 35   of Taylorville, Illinois departed this life Sunday, February 5, 2023. Dontrell was born on October 26, 1987, in Springfield, IL the son of Mack A. Franks Sr. and Erica L. Ware.  Dontrell grew up the eldest of his mother’s children and was an attentive and amazing big brother.

 

As a young man, he grew an affinity for football and loved the Chicago Bears.  He attended Springfield High School where his love for football would lead him into playing the game as he took the role of a Line Backer for the Springfield Senators.  His large stature and strength made him a noteworthy opponent and an asset to his team.  As a young adult, Dontrell moved to Taylorville, IL where he would father 6 children of his own. To know Dontrell was to know that he took great pride in his role as their father and his kids were his world.  Dontrell would eventually go to school to further his education and become a HVAC technician.  Upon completing his certification, he began a successful career with AES Mechanical Services in 2018 which was an occupation that he loved.

 

Dontrell thoroughly enjoyed the role of being an active father in his children’s lives.  His kids were the best gifts he could receive. He was such a family man.  He was kind, funny and quick on his feet.    He always found a way to set aside time to reach out to family because Family was especially important to him. Dontrell was the one person that everyone loved so he had a special ability to get everyone together in harmony.  We will deeply miss his infectious laugh, loving spirit and always cherish every moment shared with him. 

 

Dontrell leaves to cherish his memory: His parents: Erica L. Byrd and Mack A. Franks Sr., children: Dontrell D. Franks II, Alizabeth A. Franks, Olivia R. Franks, King J. Franks, Amare’ J. Irma Eileen (Clark) True

Irma Eileen (Clark) True, 96, of Blue Mound, passed away at 10:46 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Irma was born November 12, 1926, in Blue Mound, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Nellie Hazel (Kretsinger) Clark.  She married Melvin Francis True on May 20,1944, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1973. 

Irma began working as a seamstress in the garment factories of Decatur at the age of 16.  She worked as a housekeeper, servicing many businesses in Decatur, until her retirement at the age of 62.  Irma was an active and dedicated member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Decatur.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and sewing, but most of all Irma loved her family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sharon True; and all 5 of her siblings.

Irma is survived by her children, Janet Hyde of Wytheville, VA, Larry Wayne (wife, Linda) True of Georgetown, KY, Linda Morella of Wytheville, VA, Dennis (wife, Terry) True of Nacogdoches, TX, and Marvin (wife, Paula) True of Stonington, IL; 18 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.  The funeral ceremony will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dennis True officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral ceremony at Hall Cemetery in Blue Mound.

William T. "Tom" McLeod

William T. “Tom” McLeod, 63 of Taylorville, passed away at 7:57 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on February 25, 1959 in Albuquerque, New Mexico the son of Robert Henry McLeod and Dorothy Schneider-Riggs.  He married Janice Mae Marr on April 11, 1985 in Springfield and she preceded him in death on December 4, 2019.  Tom proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.  Following his time in the service he began a career with the U.S. Postal Service that lasted over 30 years.  Tom was an active member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, enjoyed Cosplay, and was a movie buff.  He also enjoyed spending time outdoors camping. 

He is survived by his children: Colleen Ahrendt (Jeremy) of Taylorville, Jeremy McLeod of Virginia, Brandon McLeod of Taylorville, Bronson McLeod of Texas, and Christopehr McLeod of Taylorville; step-children: Jack Johnson of Springfield and Terri Johnson of Kincaid; grandchildren: Taylor Ahrendt, Kayden Ahrendt, Alexis McLeod, Connor McLeod, Odin McLeod, and Tristan Hernandez; and siblings: Lynn Bialas of Taylorville and Janna McLeod-Jenkins of California.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother: Danny Bialas.

Michael Douglas Kendle

Michael Douglas Kendle, 61 of Taylorville passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 5:51 p.m. in Taylorville, IL. He was born on September 22, 1961 in Taylorville, IL the son of Jack and Judith Henney Kendle. He married Sherri May on June 15, 1979 in Taylorville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Byron and Sue Kendle, Herb and Shirley Porter, Father-in-Law: Bob May, uncle: Gary Kendle, and step-sister: Angela Ridgway.

Michael will be remembered most for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and capacity for love. He was an amazing husband, father, neighbor and friend. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, farming, building, and taking care of those he loved. A stranger to none, Mike was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Mike’s most recent passion was building he and his wife’s dream home, where his family could gather and build lasting memories.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 starting at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Mary S. Ridgeway

Mary S. Ridgeway, 86 of Mt. Auburn, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Carriage Crossing Senior Living Center in Taylorville. She was born on June 20, 1936, in Paducah, KY, the daughter of Gardner Humphrey and Geneva Henderson. She married Larry Ridgeway on July 28, 1956 in Mt. Auburn, IL and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2016.

Mary was a homemaker and an active member of the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ. She enjoyed making ceramics, sewing, quilting, needle crafts, cooking and dog grooming. Above all, she loved her family dearly.

She is survived by her son: David Ridgeway of Denver, CO.; Daughters: Rhonda Sebben of Taylorville; and Julie LeBeane of Mt. Auburn, IL; Grandchildren: Misty, Zach, Jonas, Mande, Lindsey, Josh, Jayme, Brittany, Michael, and Rachel and many Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son: Danny Ridgeway; brother: Jim Humphrey; and sister: Betty Law.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral Service will take place immediately after at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Mt. Auburn, IL.

Lorene Trent

Lorene Trent, 89, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Hickory Estates in Taylorville. She was born on April 28, 1933 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of William H. Dunne and Lorella M. Paulsen. Lorene married James Wheeler Trent on September 9, 1950 in Delphi, Indiana and he preceded her in death.

She worked as an Office manager for Maze Lumber in Peru, IL, and volunteered for many years at Memorial Medical Center and the UIS Sangamon Auditorium. Lorene will be remembered for being a very driven, independent, career-minded woman, when it was not necessarily the fashion in our society. She was part of a generation of women who laid the groundwork and built the foundation for their daughters and granddaughters to expand on those principles and have the opportunities and freedoms to choose their own paths in life. She made the world a better place.

Lorene is survived by her Granddaughter: Abigail Anne Merker (Denny Timmermans) of Orange Beach, AL; Great-Grandchildren: Colette (Jesse) Kemp of Taylorville, IL; Aiden Merker of Taylorville, IL; Tatianna Merker of New Orleans, LA; Nadia Merker-Timmermans of Orange Beach, AL; Sister: Virgene (Charles) Skiver of Lafayette, IN; Son-in-Law: Gary Merker of Taylorville, IL and Son-in-Law: Larry Goff of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her Husband: James Wheeler Trent; Daughter: Michelle Merker; Son: Jeffrey Trent; her parents; and Brother: William Dunne and Sister: Diane Perkins.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this year.

Crystal K. Carnahan

Crystal K. Carnahan, 67, of Taylorville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at her residence.

Crystal was born January 2, 1956 in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Gilbert and Adelpha (Reicken) Kahler.  She was a loving and selfless mother and grandmother, who didn’t know a stranger.  Crystal had a wonderful sense of humor, and was always willing to help others in need.  She loved watching westerns every morning but loved nothing more than the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.  Crystal worked for many years at Bill’s Toasty and the Eagles Club in Taylorville.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill and Willis; and sister, Marie.

Crystal is survived by her daughters, Fawn (husband, Tom) Bozarth of Springfield, and Starla (husband, Jesse) Ray of Taylorville; grandchildren, Dylan Bozarth, Dalton (wife, Danielle) Bozarth, Ava Bozarth, Christian (wife, Katie) Ray, Joshua (wife, Alexa) Ray, and Alicia (husband, Jeffrey) Wood; great grandchildren, Hannah, Audrey, Demi, Bryson, Adam, Elsie, and Leo; and siblings, Cheryle McMillen, Carol McMillen, Gail Anderson, and Byron Lockwood.

A private celebration of Crystal’s life will be held at a later date.

William Franklin Matthews

William Franklin Matthews, 67, of Taylorville, passed away at 10:32 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Bill was born October 14, 1955, in Taylorville, the son Cecil Roscoe and Eileen Eugene (Booker) Matthews.  He married Sharon Lynn McNamara on July 9, 1977, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

Bill graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1974 and went on to work for McNamara Electric.  From there, he went on to work for Turris Coal until his retirement, where he was a Master Electrician and primarily a Motion and Process Control System Designer and Programmer.  Bill was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers, Harold and Darold Matthews; and brothers, Cecil Wayne Mathews and Albert Lewis (wife, Sharon J.) Matthews.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Matthews of Taylorville; sisters-in-law, Carlene Matthews of Pawnee, Mary Jo (husband, Bill) Dively of Taylorville, Kathy J. (husband, Robert) Noblet of Taylorville, and Rhonda J. (husband, Steven) Wagner of Frankfort; nieces and nephews, Julie (husband, Bart) Emerson, Stacey Agans, Billy Matthews, Bill Dively, Jr., T.J. Dively, Josh Dively, Ronald Noblet, Col. Andrew Noblet, Matthew Noblet, and Iris Noblet-Crites; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation & Memorial Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 1:00-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 N. Webster Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.  The memorial ceremony will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Johnston officiating.

Patricia Peters

Patricia Peters, 90, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on February 1, 2023, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. Patricia was born on December 9, 1932, in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of William and Mary (Bertucci) Peters.

Patricia is survived by her nieces and nephews, Cynthia (Bruce) Anderson, Mark (Sharon) Peters, Brad (Bridget) Peters, Donna Riley, Mary Knazavich, Jean (Robert) Helvering, Gary Knazavich, Doug Knazavich; and a number of great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Clara Caldwell, Jack Peters, Mary Phillips, Earl Peters, Norma Knazavich, and Douglas Peters.

Pat loved sports and playing games of all kinds. She traveled to all 48 of the lower states in the U.S., and most of all, enjoyed time with family and friends.

A visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, IL. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.
