Monte Siegrist, 85 of Taylorville passed away Wednesday November 28, at his home, surrounded by his family and close friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years (Lucy), his children Mark, Jay, Scott, Kirk and Julie, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and his sister, Sue Siegrist Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his son John Lyndon (November 30, 1969), his siblings Max, Malcolm and Ellen Siegrist, and his parents, Walter and Pauline Siegrist.

Monte was born on May 20, 1933 in Taylorville, the son of Walter and Pauline (Straughn) Siegrist. He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1951, attended University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. In 1953, he joined the Army, met and married the love of his life, Lucy Kuntzman. He went on to raise a family and run a successful business.

He was a family man, friend, lifelong Democrat, businessman, Eagle Scout, member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, avid Cardinal fan, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and loved his bubble gum. Among his accomplishments were a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chamber of Commerce for his lifelong dedication to Taylorville. In 2005, he and Lucy donated a statue of President Abraham Lincoln to the City. He is responsible for over half the housing units built in Taylorville over the past 60 years and was founding President of the Springfield Area Homebuilders. At the age of 80, he returned to college at Lincoln Land. Monte loved to help people, and anyone who knew him knew that he truly cared about Taylorville. 

Visitation will be at Sutton Memorial Home on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. Prayer service will start at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, December 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside honors.

Ruth V. Washburn, 97 of Springfield formerly of Pana, IL passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Health Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on August 23, 1921 in Pana, IL. She married Zenith Washburn in 1977 and he preceded her in death. Ruth worked as Sangamon Card factory and later a homemaker.
She is survived by her Son: Mike (Kay) Medley of Pana, IL; Daughter: Marian Reynolds of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Peggy (Kerry) Nordhoff of Rochester, IL; Connie Aichele of Washington State, James Reynolds of Springfield, IL; Sally (Mike) Imperio of Virginia, Stephanie (Rob) Medley-Rath of Indiana, Lindsey (Donnie) Medley-Debirum of Florida; Eighteen Great-Grandchildren; Twenty three Great-Great-Grandchildren; Step-Children: Lloyd (Bea) Washburn of Morrisonville, IL; Penny Osborn, Sharry, Sarah and Several step-grandchildren and step-Great-Grandchildren. Evan E. Morman, 86 of Edinburg passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 6:10 a.m. at Heritage Health Care Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on January 13, 1932 in Rochester, IL the son of Fred and Sylvia (Boggs) Morman. He married Marjorie Elder on March 27, 1954 in Berea Christian Church in Niantic, IL. Evan worked as an electronics technician at Dickey John in Auburn, IL and he was a member of the Rochester Methodist Church in Rochester, IL.

Mr. Duane R. Swiney, 87, of Taylorville, IL., passed peacefully from this life at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2018 in Taylorville Care Center.
He was born in Assumption, IL., November 16, 1931 the son of Leo P. and Sylvia (Logsdon) Swiney.
Mr. Swiney served in the U. S. Army in the Artillery during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.  When he got out of the military he came home and started farming.  In 1962 he quit farming and went to work; first briefly for Continental Grain, and then Wayne Feed Company for 40 years.  Duane loved horses and also his little dog Reggie who preceded him in death.  In his younger years he was a Team Roper performing at the Wheeler Hobbs arena.  Duane just celebrated his 87th birthday where the Veterans honored him with a Pinning Ceremony.  One of Mr. Swiney’s biggest delights was his recent trip on the Honor Flight.
Surviving are 4 sisters: Betty Heninger of Havre, MT., Helen Bricker, Janet Stephens and Kathy and her husband Robert Ricci all of Taylorville, IL., 2 brothers Leo “Bud” T. and his wife Kay Swiney of Owaneco, IL., and Paul and his wife Andi Swiney of Taylorville, IL., a sister-in-law Teresa Swiney of Taylorville, IL., along with several nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Donald “Pete” Swiney and Marion Swiney, nephew Bobby Swiney, 3 brother-in-law’s George Heninger, Keith Bricker and Robert Stephens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  Pastor Tami Werschey-Kessinger of Owaneco United Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial with Full Military Honors will follow the service in Assumption Cemetery.  Visitation for Mr. Duane R. Donna Mae Schultz, 77 of Taylorville, passed away at 11:25a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family.  She was born on October 3, 1941 in Libertyville, the daughter of Marvin John and Mary Eileen (Ostermeier) Schaefer.  She married Dennis G. Schultz on May 2, 1964 in Waukegan.  In her younger years Donna was an avid horseback rider and enjoyed barrel racing.  She enjoyed boating, collecting Beanie Babies, making Raggedy Ann dolls, and loved her dogs.  More than anything, Donna loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband: Dennis Schultz of Taylorville; children: Jodie Asebedo (Jody Bates) of Tovey and Anthony Schultz of Taylorville; grandchildren: Jamie Higgason (Drew) of Rochester and Jenna Asebedo of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren: Payslee Mae Amos and Waylen Higgason; siblings: Marvin J. Schaefer Jr. (Darlene) of Libertyville, and Joyce Braner (Brad) of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and grandmother: Ina Edic.

Dottie Jo Dunkirk, 87, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 5:53 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville, IL.

Dottie was born December 6, 1930 in rural Montgomery County, IL, the daughter of Roy E. and L. Irene (Jordan) Wefenstette. She married Charles “Kenny” Dunkirk on February 28, 1954 at the United Methodist Church of Morrisonville. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2005.

Dottie graduated from Raymond Community High School in 1948, and went on to Brown’s Business College in Granite City. After Kenny and she married, she worked within the home and helping on the family farm. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Morrisonville, and was active in the United Methodist Women, teaching Sunday school, and baking pies for various church functions. She was also a past-member of the Lone Elm School. Dottie enjoyed sewing, baking, raising her chickens, and vegetable gardening.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Ralph Wefenstette.

Dottie is survived by her children, Gary (wife, Marietta) Dunkirk of Morrisonville, IL, and Carolyn (husband, Brian) Abshire of Pawnee, IL; grandchildren, Dereke (wife, Chelsea) Dunkirk of Morrisonville, IL, Ashley (husband, Rhett) Niewinski of Lady Lake, FL, Lindsey Abshire of Pawnee, IL, and Jared Abshire of Manchester, CT; great grandchildren, Adelaide, Gentry, Rigby, Joscelyn, and Kohen; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Dean Brown, 84, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Charlie was born December 27, 1933 in Ramsey, IL, the son of George and Mary “Lottie” (Allison) Brown. He married Violet J. Wehrle-Daugherty on March 25, 1972 at Davis Memorial Christian Church.

Charlie graduated from Taylorville High School in 1951. He directed the building crew at Brown & Sons, Inc., building over 50 homes in the area, all of which are still standing. As a Certified Kitchen Designer, his life was dedicated to improving the homes of others. As a member of Kiwanis, Eagle, and Lions Clubs, Keep Taylorville Beautiful, and Alderman of the 2nd Ward, his interest was helping to make this city a better place to live. He was also a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, William and Philip Brown.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Violet J. “Vi” Brown of Taylorville, IL; son, David (Diane L.) Brown of Lebanon, PA; daughter, Diane K. William Philip “Bill” DeWerff, 77, of Owaneco, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 while in Hospice at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born April 12, 1941 at home in Nokomis to the late Roy & Beatrice (Avery) DeWerff. He married Elaine Clouter of Owaneco in 1963 and she survives.
Bill graduated from Nokomis High School in 1959 and continued his education by receiving a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education from Southern Illinois University in 1963. He then went on to earn his master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1968. He started a career as an agriculture teacher in Hardin, IL. After two years he and Elaine moved to Windsor, IL where he would teach Agriculture Education for 11 years. During his time in Windsor, Bill also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a park ranger at Lake Shelbyville. In 1976 it was a tossup between education and dirt, and the dirt won. From 1976-2005 he farmed and raised cattle and hogs. Bill’s hobbies always took him to the outdoors. He would play golf and softball all summer. He spent long hours in the duck blinds, quail and pheasant hunting, along with fishing the lakes of Illinois. When he wasn’t hunting he was watching his favorite sports teams which included any team his grandkids participated in. Bill was a member of the United in Faith Church, Pana and loved to travel with Elaine and watch western movies on TV.
Along with his wife Elaine, Bill is survived by his son Wayne (Pamela) DeWerff of Owaneco; daughter Karen (Amos) Crapse of Columbus, IN; grandchildren Megan (Zachary) DeWerff Rhodes of Taylorville, Brock DeWerff of Owaneco, and Kenny Crapse (Fiancé Alex Bradley) of Nashville, TN; and brother Roger (June) DeWerff of Nokomis. He was preceded by his parents and sister Patricia Grimes.

Albert L. Eyman, 82, of Morrisonville, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, in Carlinville, IL.
 
Albert was born November 24, 1935 in Morrisonville, IL, the son of Clarence and Lillian (McDaniel) Eyman.  He married Beverly A. Windell on November 24, 1955 in Morrisonville.

Albert graduated from Morrisonville High School and went on to work for the Morrisonville Farmers Co-Op in Harvel, where he retired in 2001 after 43 years of service.  He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisonville, and a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, Oddfellows, and Order of the Eastern Star.  Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Warren E. Eyman; sister, Norma Jean McKinney; and brothers-in-law, William H. Kent and Charles McKinney.

Albert is survived by his wife, Beverly A. Sonja (Romeo) Jeffrey, 79, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 10:06 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018 at her residence.

Sonja was born May 18, 1939 in Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of Nicklas and Maxine D. (Smith) Romeo.  She graduated from Taylorville High School, and then married Charles Harmon Rodden, and he preceded her in death.  Sonja was a homemaker, raising her three sons. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and sons, Doug and Barry Rodden.

Sonja is survived by her son, John Rodden of Taylorville, IL; several grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (husband, Kevin) Noren of Taylorville, IL, and Jane Romeo of FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roger Lee Coffey, 78 of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Stonington, passed away at 1:00am on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Heritage Hospice in Springfield. He was born on October 30, 1940 in Taylorville, the son of James K. and Mary Louise (Reinhardt) Coffey. Roger attended Mary Crest College and later Ambrose University where he earned his MBA. He worked for Caterpillar for over 31 years retiring as an Operations Manager. Roger also taught quality management classes at Blackhawk College. He was a member and former treasurer of the Scott County Democrats and Exalted Ruler of Elk Lodge 298 in Davenport. Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

He is survived by his brother: Mark Coffey (Peggy) of Taylorville; nieces: Brandi Clayton (Jeremy) of Mt. Auburn and Kara McCullough (Tad) of Taylorville; and great nieces and nephews: Logan, Levi, Hannah, and Tanner Clayton, and Averi and Alyvia McCullough. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Coffey will be cremated, and a graveside military honors will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 21 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton. Shirley Kay Clements, 53, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 8:59 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Shirley was born July 14, 1965 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Donald R. and Joyce E. (Paine) Clements, Sr. She was a beloved daughter and sister, who loved her family more than anything. Shirley was the epitome of happiness.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce E. Clements; sister, Paula Clements; paternal grandparents, Arch I. and Lola May (Fisher) Clements; and maternal grandparents, Arthur T. “Cotton” and Loraine E. (Williams) Paine, Sr.

Mamie A. Cravens, 97 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 5:35 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 1, 1921 in Cuba, MO, the daughter of Hugh and Ellen Carry. She married James Wheeler Cravens on June 12, 1936 in Taylorville, IL and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2000. She worked as a school cook in the Morrisonville school district and a homemaker. Mamie was a hard-working woman, being a school cook and taking care of her family. She raised a huge garden, push mowed 3 acres and she was a fantastic cook. Mamie was famous for her blackberry cobbler that everyone requested for family gatherings. She loved her family very much and she never ended a conversation that she did not say “ok love you”.

She is survived by her Daughters: Nancy (Dan) Sergent of Auburn, IL; Rhonda (Neil) Hoover of Taylorville, IL; Daughter-in- Law: Phyllis Cravens of Kincaid, IL; Seven Granddaughters and Several Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great-grandchildren, Special Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son: Wayne Cravens, Daughter: Marilyn Spires, Granddaughter: Shelly Spires-Reed, Great-Granddaughter: Annessa Goodwin, and all of her brothers and sisters.

Patricia Ann Olive, 72, of Taylorville passed away at 10:05am on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in her home. She was born on April 14, 1946 in Moweaqua, the daughter of Pearl and Wilma (Batton) Thomason. Pat married James E. Olive on April 26, 1970 in Taylorville. Pat retired from the City of Taylorville after 30 years of service and was a member of AFSCME. She was an active member of the Women of the Moose and was a Past Senior Regent and achieved the highest degree within the Women of the Moose, the College of Regents. She previously had served on the board for Chilifest and always enjoyed helping with the senior citizens dinner at the Christian County Fair. For many years Pat enjoyed being a part of Christian County Relay for Life and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Pat is survived by her husband: Jim Olive of Taylorville; children: James C. “J.C.” Olive, wife Jessica, of Taylorville and Leslie A. Foraker, husband Aaron, of Millersville; granddaughter: Alexus “Allie” Olive; brothers: George (Vera) Thomason of Stonington and Jeff (Elaine) Thomason of Taylorville; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, four-legged companion, Rosco. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Doris, Paul, Jack, and Shelia.

Kathleen Ann “Kathy” Swinburne-Zwick, 63 of Taylorville passed away at 10:50pm on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in her home. She was born on January 6, 1955 in Springfield, the daughter of James and Patricia (Corsiatto) Swinburne. Kathy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an active member of Moose Lodge #1516. Over the years Kathy was a stay-at-home mother and provided in-home childcare. Kathy enjoyed cooking, walking, and decorating her home, a joy that lead to her selling for Home Interiors. Whether it was to a tropical beach or to visit her parents while they wintered in Alabama, travel was always a highlight of Kathy’s life. Above all, Kathy was dedicated to her family, especially her daughters and grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her mother: Patricia Swinburne of Springfield; daughters: Suzanne (Greg) Mizera, Andrea (Vince) Schwab, and Lauren Zwick, all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Cameron Mizera, Leah Doty, Carson Mizera, and Stella Schwab; brother: Mark Swinburne and nephew: Kevin Swinburne both of Taylorville; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her father: Jim Swinburne; grandparents; an uncle and 3 cousins.

The funeral service for Kathy will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 12, 2018 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Chaplain Ricky Reed officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be from 3 until 5pm on Sunday in the funeral home.

Catherine Louise Piretto, 95 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 8, 1923 in Langleyville, IL the daughter of John and Marie (Cerato) Sebben. She married Dominic Piretto on September 28, 1946 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1983. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and the Taylorville Catholic Daughters of America.

After being widowed at 59, Catherine focused on her family and her art. Her talent and strength of character flourished. She was an avid collector and talented artist who painted cherished works which will be enjoyed by family for generations to come. Catherine always placed others before herself. She cared.

She is survived by her Daughters: Susan (Mark) Scofield of Atlanta, GA and Sally (Kevin) Boaz of St. Charles, MO; Grandchildren: Matthew (Brandie) Scofield of Atlanta, GA, Nicolas (Megan) Scofield of Los Angeles, CA and Kyle Boaz of Springfield, MO; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Brother: Victor Sebben and Uncles: Angelo and Tony Cerato.

Don “Doc” Boyer, 85, of Moweaqua, died November 5, 2018 in Moweaqua Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Oddfellows Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to CAMP (Central A&M Promoters) or Special Olympics.

“Doc” was born June 16, 1933 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Leo and Helen (Barrett) Boyer. He married Louise Younker November 27, 1954 in Moweaqua. She survives.

“Doc” was affiliated with Destiny Fellowship Church of Moweaqua. He was retired from ADM and the former trainer for the ADM Pride softball team, Macon High School football team and Central A&M High School football team. “Doc” proudly served his country as a paratrooper and medic in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Surviving is his wife, Louise; grandsons: Danny Wilkinson of Shelbyville and Nathan (Marsha) Wilkinson of Moweaqua; and great-granddaughters: Olivia and Kaydence Wilkinson, also of Moweaqua.

Connie Sue Thomas, 66, of Taylorville passed away at 8:42pm on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. She was born on July 11, 1952 in Taylorville, the daughter of Buren and Grace L (Bates) Donaldson. She married Jeffrey Thomas on June 4, 2009 in Taylorville. Connie previously worked as a home healthcare worker, a beautician, and worked in the bakery at County Market for several years. Connie was a very talented lady, and enjoyed painting, jewelry making, and could cook anything. Above all she loved her family.

She is survived by her husband: Jeff Thomas of Taylorville; daughter: Mary Murray (Travis) of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and Samantha Belsher of Taylorville; granddaughter: Elizabeth Rahar (Sarah) of Taylorville; great-granddaughter: Sophia Greer of Taylorville; siblings: Carol Tucker (Tom), Cindy Hooper, and Bill Donaldson all of Taylorville; brother-in-law: Richard Thomas of Corpus Christi, Texas; 2 aunts, an uncle, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father: Buren Donaldson; mother: Grace Falco; and daughter: Molly Rahar.

Mrs. Thomas will be cremated, and a visitation will be held from 5 until 7p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.

E. Wayne Wemple, 93, of Pana, died October 31, 2018 in Pana Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to AAMP for Autism or VisionWay Christian School of Taylorville. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.

Wayne was born August 29, 1925 in Assumption, the son of Samuel and Ramona (Baker) Wemple. He married Joan Caldwell February 28, 1948 in Moweaqua. She survives.

Wayne was a member of Pana Christian Church, Nokomis Masonic Lodge #456; serving for 45 years, Oconee Lions Club, Nokomis Trail Riders and Audobon Township ATA. He was a farmer and proudly served in the United States Navy.

Surviving is his wife, Joan; sons: Gary (Nancy) Wemple of Hillsboro, IL and Don (Liz) Wemple of Nokomis, IL; six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and sisters: Maxine Royer of Taylorville, IL and Ruth Rhoades of Assumption, IL.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Clifford Wemple; sister, Pauline Throneburg; grandson, Aric Wemple and great-granddaughter, Sidney Theresa Wemple.
