James Bertolino, 88 of Nokomis passed away at his home Saturday morning August 28th just 2 miles from where he was born on March 5, 1933 to Louis and Cleda (Brown) Bertolino in rural Witt.  Jim is survived by his beautiful wife Mary Lou (DeWerff) were married October 22, 1955.  This union by the blessing from God gave them 6 children: Joan (Randy) Meyer, Jane (Jo Huber) Bertolino, Julie (John) Quintin, Mark (Tammy) Bertolino, Jill (Jeff Miles) Fasig and Jenelle Bertolino.  Jim was very proud of his 17 grandchildren: Chad Ruppert, Beth Dorsey, Norann Ruppert, Jordan Ruppert, Nick Quintin, Emma Quintin, Rory Quintin, Aaron Bertolino, Adam Bertolino, Andrew Bertolino, Anna Murphy, Austin Bertolino, Jonica Stark, Joe Fasig, Jenna Fasig, Allie Ishmael and Hannah Ishmael. There are 36 great grandchildren.  Jim has two sisters Elizabeth Snow and Catherine Snow both of Texas.

Jim graduated from Nokomis High School where he exhibited his leadership skills serving as class president and presidents of five other organizations.  Following high school, he did some agricultural course work at the U of I.  Jim spent 2 years in the army at Fort Knox.  Jim, a devout catholic served as lector and Euchatrist minister for many years. He was the lay director for three Koinonias and served on the committee to build the St. Louis Parish Center.  Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus since he was 18, a member of the Farm Bureau, Nokomis Jaycees and the American Legion.  He served nine and half years on the Nokomis Unit 22 School Board and three years as the secretary of the board.  

Jim was the president of the Nokomis Mutual Insurance Company for 16 years and served as an agent for 50 years.  He enjoyed every minute of it.  Jim valued all of his policy holders and was very thankful for this career and his clients.

Jim and Mary Lou enjoyed camping with their friends and family for over 25 years.  He has always enjoyed a good game of cards and dominoes.  His most favorite pastime was watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports, showing their livestock at fairs and dance recital, among many other activities.  Family has always been his pride and joy.  Jim will be remembered by his kind and gentle soul.

Chicago Cubs and Brooklyn Dodgers were the teams he followed consistently. Jim's luck number was 17.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis with  Father John Burnette and Father Richard Chiola co-officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Nokomis, IL.

James Dale Skinner, 72, of Morrisonville, passed away at 4:18 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his residence.

Jim, known by friends and family as “Pappy”, was born December 3, 1948 in Taylorville, the son of Harold and Ruth (Oller) Skinner. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, Jim married Marilyn R. Barrows on May 27, 1972 at the Taylorville Church of the Nazarene, and they have enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. He worked as a semi-truck driver for over 40 years, before his retirement. Jim was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville, and a member of the American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville. He loved fishing for anything that would bite, and just being out on the water. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed rabbit hunting, and he never would pass on an opportunity to listen to Big Joe’s Polka Show. Jim was a true patriot, and he was especially proud to have served his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Heather Marie Skinner; sisters, Ruby Helms, Alberta Delahunt, Violet Esther Woodkirk, Betty Skinner, Brenda Skinner, and Wileen “Sue” Hendricks; and brothers, Melvin “Bill”, Earl, Sherman, and Clifford Skinner.

Robert Paul Fisher, 92, of Mt. Auburn, passed away at 11:53 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Bob was born February 6, 1929 in Illiopolis, the son of Paul and Alma (Stelzriede) Fisher. He graduated from Mt. Auburn High School in 1947, and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bob grew up on a farm, and continued his love of farming by working as a farmhand for the greater part of his life. He also worked at Mueller Co. in Decatur for 33 years before retiring.

Bob married Shirley R. Markwell at the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church in 1957, and they enjoyed over 64 years of marriage. He was a member of the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church, American Legion Post #73, and the V.F.W. Post #4495. Bob enjoyed NASCAR, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and above all, a family man. His world revolved around his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Judith Marie Fisher; step-son, Daniel Shafer; great grandson, Koty Cook; brother, Gene Fisher; sister, Patsy Willoughby; and niece, Laura Anderson.

Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley R. Fisher of Mt. Auburn; son, Kenneth (wife, Tineal) Fisher of Taylorville; daughters, Debra Fisher-Knowles of Mt. Joyce Langen, 86, of Taylorville, formerly of Morrisonville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Taylorville Estates.

Joyce was born January 13, 1935 in Taylorville, the daughter of the late Earl and Leona (Cross) Bradford. She married Wayne Langen on August 23, 1969 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2009.

Joyce graduated from Morrisonville High School, and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. She then graduated from Illinois State University with a Master’s Plus degree in education. She worked for over 30 years as a Home Economics Teacher for Riverton, Farmersville, Lincolnwood, Bloomington, and then Morrisonville. Joyce was a long-time member of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, as well as a past member of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Foundation. She enjoyed reading and crafting, and was especially talented at cross-stitch, quilting, and sewing.

Visitation & Funeral Mass: The family will receive guests from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 706 SE 4^th Street, Morrisonville, IL 62546. Rev. John Burnette will serve as celebrant.

Doris Zola Rappe, 96, of Decatur, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 3:05am on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur. She was born on June 17, 1925 in Bingham, the daughter of Lawrence and Hazel Hart. She married Dwight H. Rappe on July 12, 1944 in Marysville, California. Mr. Rappe preceded her in death on September 5, 2009. Doris worked for Montgomery Ward before retiring from Kemper Insurance. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. Doris and Dwight were avid golfers and she was exceptionally proud of the hole-in-one she made at the Scovill Golf Course in Decatur. Together they also enjoyed square-dancing and were a member of several square-dance clubs.

She is survived by her sons: Larry Rappe (Neva Gage) of Borger, Texas, and Kevin Rappe (Teresa) of Decatur; grandchildren: Chris Rappe (Rachel) of Fritch, Texas, Daniel Rappe (Chelsea) of Borger, Texas, Chad Rappe (Shelia) of Macon, and Kimberly Schuman (Robert) of Blue Mound; great grandchildren: Brittany Harris (Lee), Tyler Rappe, Destiny Shane (Grant), Evan Rappe (Abston), Alex Rappe, Cole Rappe, Paige Patient, Hannah Patient, Craig Johnson, Matthew Schuman, Tatum Wright, and Beau Rappe; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Carol Ann Compagni, 79, of Nokomis passed away on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur surrounded by her family. Carol was born on April 29, 1942, in Litchfield, the daughter of Roland Wilder and Clara (McLean) Wilder Jachino. She married James Compagni on Aug. 12, 1967; he preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 2006.

Carol is survived by her children, John Anthony Compagni of Nokomis, David (Bobbie Jo) Compagni of Decatur, and Jason Compagni of Springfield; her brother, Steve Jachino of Rochester; her grandchildren, Bradley, Ashley, Shelby and Makenna; her great-grandchildren, Hadley, Cameron and Landon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother William Wilder; and her half-sister Margie Lee Bovair.

Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nokomis. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and sharing coffee and good conversation with the close friends she lovingly referred to as “the girls.”

Jackson Joshua Wyman, strong and brave, fought and finished his race on August 4, 2021 in Springfield, Illinois. He was born on June 25, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, the son of Jason Dillon and Tiffany Rose (Slusser) Wyman. He is survived by his parents, Jason and Tiffany Wyman of Kincaid; sister: Rebecca Wyman of Granite City; brothers: Guy Wyman and David Wyman both of Kincaid; and grandmothers: Bambi Wyman of New Athens, Illinois and Wendy Slusser of Dupo, Illinois.

In the early morning hours of August 4th, Jackson Joshua was snuggled up into the arms of His Savior, Jesus Christ.

There are many things, too divine for us to understand of why's, but we hope everyone will concentrate on what we DO KNOW- God is good, He made Jackson perfect, and mountains were conquered.

Through Jackson's power-packed life; mountains of complacency and disbelief were thrown into the sea as God worked miracle after miracle through JJ. So many revelations and impartations were revealed to countless lives. To put it simply, people's hearts were turned back to the Father as Jackson fulfilled his John The Baptist ministry.

We love our tiny, but mighty fighter. Oh, do we love Jackson Joshua to the overflow. Our hearts are heavy, but in Jackson's absence- God is very here.

The journeys we're set on, usually turn out very different than we expect. However, so much more majestic than we could ever imagine. Right now, we have reached Jackson's Summit and are looking across a gorgeous view into a vibrant life loved here, and one we will continue to love in the one to come.
 

40 days of an overcoming life, smiles, wiggly-wiggles, twinkling eyes, strong grips, defying odds one by one, binky obsessing, filling hundreds of hearts full of hope and inspiration, and captivating the adoration of his Daddy, Mommy, siblings, and family's love forever and always.
 

We love you with all our heart JJ. We'll strive the rest of our lives to try to get anywhere close to doing as much for Jesus and shining HOPE as you have. Mr. Timothy Snow, Sr. 63, of Clarksdale/Palmer IL passed from this life at 2:15 pm, Friday, August 20, 2021 at home.  

He was born September 21, 1957, in Springfield, IL.  The son of Charles and Barbara (Walker) Snow Sr.

He attended Girard and Virden schools.  Timothy married Pamela Wise on March 1, 1991, at the Kincaid United Methodist Church.  She preceded him in death June 2, 2012.  Mr. Snow retired after many years as a security guard from Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He enjoyed fishing, playing video games, and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his son Tim Snow Jr., Clarksdale, IL.  A daughter Debbie (John) Dusenbery of Carlinville, IL. Two grandchildren, Elizabeth Lake, Virden, IL and Karli Hammann at home, one great-grandson Hayden Fix of Virden, IL, along with many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded by his parents, wife Pam, four brothers Fred, Lester, Butch and Donnie, and one sister Patricia Snow.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m.  Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.  Visitation for Mr. Timothy Snow Sr. will be held from 9 am to 11 am the same day.

Russell McClane “Mick” Sullivan, 88, of Taylorville, passed away at 10:20pm on Thursday, August 19, 2021 surrounded by his daughters, in his home. He was born on May 22, 1933 on the family farm in rural Livingston County, the son of Russell Grant and Madolyn (McClane) Sullivan. He married Ruth Anne Hawkins on August 25, 1956 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2018. Mick proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and went on to earn his master’s degree from Illinois State University. He began his teaching career in Livingston County where he taught at several schools. In 1969, he and Ruth moved to Taylorville where he continued teaching until his retirement in 1993. Mick not only taught for many years but served as a coach for various sports including football, basketball, and golf. He was an active member of Davis Memorial Christian Church, serving in many roles including Deacon and Elder. He was a member of VFW Post #4495. Mick was a true outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, birdwatching and simply enjoying nature’s beauty. Equal to his love of the outdoors was his love of learning. He continuously read, studying everything from history to his faith. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Mick played golf for many years and played on the men’s league at Lakeshore Golf Course. He had a very eclectic appreciation of music. Mick will be remembered as a great storyteller, a true friend to many, and someone that loved people. Not only did he support his church, family, and friends, but he also made sure to support many special charities including St. Jude’s and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. More than all, he loved his family as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his daughters: Amy Nuss of McHenry, Sherry Ward of Belleville, Kathy Sullivan of Taylorville, and Patty Sullivan (Ted Brannon) of Springfield; grandchildren: Alexis Wisniewski (Timothy), Zachary Nuss (Barbie Reakes), Alex Ward, and Ryan Ward; great grandchildren: Niah Wisniewski and Jude Wisniewski; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son-in-law: Brian Nuss.

Mr. Sullivan will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville. Barbara "Bobbie" Bangert, 86 of rural Nokomis, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Barbara Bangert was born May 11, 1935 in rural Nokomis to Leslie and Freda (Wallace) Niehaus.  She was a graduate of Nokomis High School and attended business college for 1 year.  She and Kenneth C. Bangert were married August 15,1954.  He preceded her in death on December 7, 2014.  Bobbie was a homemaker, a member of the Farm Bureau and a lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church.

Alvin John Mizeur, 77 of Owaneco, passed away at 12:40a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2021 in his home. He was born on June 15, 1944 in Pana, the son of Raymond L. and Betty J. (Neal) Mizeur. He married Janet Banko on June 20, 1964 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville. Alvin graduated from Taylorville High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. Alvin worked for ADM, retiring after 28 years, and proudly carried on his families heritage of farming as the 5^th generation to work the land in central Illinois. His life-long love of agriculture continues on in his family, now entering the 7^th generation. He was a member of VFW Post #4495. He not only gave back to his country, but spent decades giving back the the community of Owaneco, serving on the fire department for over 55 years, and village Mayor for 41 years. Aside from the farm, his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Patricia M. Stanfield Jones 91 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Carriage Crossing in Taylorville, Il. Born December 11, 1929 in West Frankfort, Ill to Roy C. and Nellie Smith. She married Speed Stanfield on August 28, 1948. He passed away February 8, 1973. She then married Harold Jones on November 16, 1974. He passed away April 20, 2006. Patricia began her career with the United States Postal Service in August 1964. She was appointed Postmaster in Tovey in November 1973 and later appointed Postmaster in Kincaid in October 1984. She retired from the USPS on December 29, 1989.
Patricia’s hobbies included gardening, reading (her favorite pastime), hand stitching beautiful quilts, and enjoyed her vacation home in Weslaco, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Thomas of Kincaid and sons, Dan (Kathryn) Stanfield, and Ted (Jeannie) Stanfield of Williamsville, Ill. and sister Cathy Hunter of Taylorville.

Brian Thomas Nisinger, 59 of Taylorville formerly of Jamestown, NC passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 7:53 a.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. He was born on June 7, 1962 in Peru, IN the son of Harold Nisinger and Judy (Ashmore) Mast. He married Cynthia Wantland on October 30, 2010 in Jamestown, NC. He worked as a network engineer, was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was very involved in the Jamestown Summit Church, volunteering his time and expertise.

Michael K. DeMichael, 69 of Taylorville, passed away at 2:30am on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 surrounded by his family at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville. He was born on January 5, 1952 in Taylorville, the son of Tullio W. “Toots” and Evelyn A. (Young) DeMichael. He married Karen Lynn Buckmire on March 16, 1974 by Fr. Raymond Reich in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Stonington.

Mike graduated from Stonington High School in 1970 where he participated in many sports and went on to play baseball at Eastern Illinois University. He began his working career at the Sangamon Company, spent time working at the Taylorville Post Office, and had a long career as a consumer banker at several local banks. In his retirement years, he worked as a greeter at McClure Funeral Home where he truly enjoyed visiting with those attending services. He always enjoyed being an entertainer, beginning as a drummer and lead singer in a local band. In the 1980’s Mike, along with his brother-in-law Mike Jamison and dear friend, John Green, were pioneers in entertainment when they started one of the first DJ services in the area, “SLAGT: Sounds Like A Great Time”. Together they entertained at countless weddings and parties all around central Illinois. In later years, because of his skills as an entertainer, Mike was often called upon to emcee at various charity functions.

The love of sports was a constant theme throughout Mike’s life, especially when it came to coaching. Beginning when his son Brent played basketball, Mike began as the coach of the 7^th grade Terrier’s basketball team. His coaching career lasted for over 20 years, taking teams to the State Tournament on 4 occasions. While he loved the game, his true passion was caring for the kids he coached throughout the years.

Mike gave back to his community in many ways. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Moose Lodge. He was a founding member of the Sertoma Club, the Taylorville Public Schools Foundation, and the Lakeshore Golf Course improvement committee. He was a member of the Taylorville Jr. High Terriers Sports Boosters, the High School Band Boosters, and the Tornado Open.

In his free time, Mike loved to keep active running, biking, and especially golfing. He played countless rounds at area courses, as well as several golf trips with dear friends to Biloxi and other destinations. His proudest golfing accomplishment was his hole-in-one he made while in Myrtle Beach. Cooking became another favorite pastime for Mike. He always enjoyed trying new recipes, and won contests for his bleu cheese burgers and barbeque.

Family was the center the center of his life. He was very proud of his Italian heritage. More than anything, he adored his 4 grandchildren who brought endless joy to his life.

He is survived by his wife: Karen DeMichael of Taylorville; children: Brent DeMichael (Stacey) of Kincaid and Susie McClure (Scott) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Hudson DeMichael, Hayden DeMichael, Peyton DeMichael, and Brayden McClure; brother: Tony DeMichael (Mary Jo) of Aledo, Texas; sister: Patricia Beck (Ron) of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Dee Ann Wattelet.

The visitation for Mike will take place from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. John Joseph West, 86 of Pana, passed away at 10:00am on Saturday, August 14, 2021 in his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 29, 1934 in Pana, the son of Orvil Newton and Maggie May (Fought) West.  John proudly served his county in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany.  He married Isolde “Peggy” Oehring on October 21, 1960.  John was a lifelong truck driver both locally and over-the-road, working for several companies.  He was a member of the Eagles and American Legion in Pana.  In his free time, he and Peggy enjoyed camping trips to Lake Shelbyville and Lake Carlyle, playing Bingo, and working in the garden.  John enjoyed spending his afternoons drinking coffee with his friends at McDonald’s, the Rosebud, and Spring Garden.  Most of all, John loved his family, especially his grandkids with whom he loved spending time.  

He is survived by his wife: Peggy West of Pana; sons: Robert West (Diana) and Donald West (Janet) both of Pana; grandchildren: Michelle Calhoun (Charles), Nathan West (Jennifer), Nicholas West, Stephanie Miller (Joseph), Levi West (Holly), Kelsey West, Kimberly West, Maggie West, and Logan West; and 19 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Orvil West, Scottie West, and Shirley Crowe.

Ruby Lucille Saul, 91 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 7:00 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 17, 1930 in Springfield, IL the sixth of eleven children to James and Ruby (Davis) Morris. She married Charles H. Saul on December 24, 1947 in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on October 13, 2020. 
She is survived by her children: Carolyn (Neal) Lebeter of Taylorville, Sharon (Randy) Smith of Kingman, AZ, two grandchildren: Randy Smith of Taylorville and Jenni Lebeter of Morrisonville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 10 siblings.

Donald “Ed” Durbin, 80, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:02 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Ed was born February 5, 1941 in Palmer, the son of Donald M. and Lela Geraldine (Nance) Durbin. He graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1959, and worked for Alma Plastics as a supervisor for 16 years.  Ed then went to work as a maintenance man for Anderson Rental Properties for over 20 years.  He married Rosalie Dean, and they later divorced.  Ed then married Louella Enlow on March 24, 2010 in Taylorville, and they have enjoyed over ten years of marriage.  He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

Ed was hard-headed, but had a heart of gold, and he would do anything to help family and friends.  He was a world champion storyteller, and his “short stories” were never short.  Ed had a story that pertained to everything.  He was a “Jack of all trades, master of none,” but he could fix anything.  Ed was always tinkering with something, and that is what he enjoyed most.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Marion “Kelly” Hazel; and sisters, Josephine Durbin and Clara Spain.

Ed is survived by his wife, Louella Durbin of Taylorville; daughter, Anita (Jody) Baldwin of Mt. Pulaski; granddaughter, Victoria Durbin; great grandchildren, Keytora, Rickey, and Arya; step-children, Darlena (Steve) Krueger of Santan Valley, AZ, Wendy (Jamie) Marsaglia of Taylorville, Ronda (Randy) Duncan of Taylorville, Gary (Dawn) Welch of Taylorville, Harold Brown of Taylorville, Faron Brown, Sr. of Taylorville, and Jeff Brown of McLeansboro; several step-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Durbin, Beverly Dial, and Judy (Bob) Graven, all of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.

James “Jim” Allen Shanks, 69 of Palmer passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 1:52 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on March 30, 1952 in Taylorville, IL. He was the son of Charles Joseph and Florence Mae (Mainwaring) Shanks. He married Cynthia “Cindy” Marie Fleming on June 1, 1975 at Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville. Jim retired as a coal miner and known by many co-workers by his nickname, “Bandit.” He was a long-time, active member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a bus route assistant, Sunday school teacher, Life Group leader, and former deacon. He coached little league baseball, YMCA soccer and basketball, and had been a board member of Red Bland Little League. He loved fishing with his sons and grandsons, spending time with family and friends, and meeting together on a regular basis for coffee with friends at McDonalds. He enjoyed reading and helping others. Jim also loved delivering flowers for his daughter-in-law’s flower business (Locust Creek Flower Farm).

Iva Dean Boastick, 90 of Palmer formerly of Chatham passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 9:07 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on August 8, 1930 in Celina, TN the daughter of Rich and Bonnie (Cunningham) Eads. She married Estel “Bud” Ramsey and they later divorced. She then married Robert Boastick on May 19, 1979 in Woodside Methodist Church in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on March 14, 2010. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Ferry for many years. Iva Dean loved attending the M&M Ladies Bible study at the Morrisonville Baptist Church where they would make lap robes for the nursing homes and she was a member since 1999. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and the new home she built in Palmer. She looked forward to her niece Judy calling on Sundays and her visits from Doug and Anna. Above all she loved the Lord and longed for the day to see her daughter Vickie and grandson Scotty.

Jay Edward Huggins, 80 of Taylorville, passed away at 11:35pm on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on September 18, 1940 in Taylorville, the son of Kenneth H and Mary Louise (Perrine) Huggins.  He married Cheryl Duncan on March 8, 1969.  Jay graduated from Taylorville High School in 1958 and went on to proudly serve his country with the U.S. Army.  Following his time in the service, Jay had a long career as a communications technician with AT&T, retiring in 1995.  He was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post #4495, and the American Legion in Decatur.  He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M. in Taylorville and the Ansar Shrine.  In his younger years, he was a member of the Shade Tree Motorcycle Club.  Fishing has been a lifelong passion for Jay.  He spent many years as a member of the Bass Club, competing in many tournaments.  His love of fishing took him on many trips from Florida to Canada, and countless lakes in-between.  He loved spending time outdoors, not only fishing, but also hunting.  He took part in several hunting excursions, including trips to Colorado.  Jay enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, including Texas Holdem, 31, and pinochle.  Gardening was another favorite pastime of Jay’s.  He enjoyed the friendly rivalry with his friends at the V.F.W. to see who could grow the first ripe tomato by the 4th of July.  Having grown up on the family farm outside of Kincaid, Jay spent many years helping on the farm, and continued to enjoy keeping up on the latest progress of the crops.  In their retirement years, Jay and Cheryl took many trips together, visiting all 48 contiguous states.  Jay enjoyed planning out every detail of their travels.  Music also brought joy to Jay.  He enjoyed the classic country songs as well as Elvis’s gospel songs, and he continued to search out new artists to listen to.  Jay enjoyed photography, a skill he exercised on his many hunting, fishing, and family trips to document the beauty and experiences he enjoyed on his travels.  With his background in telecommunications, he enjoyed keeping up with the ever-changing technology.  He was known as a “gadget guy”.  Jay loved his family and lived life to the fullest.  

He is survived by his wife: Cheryl Huggins of Taylorville; daughter: Susan Huggins of Downers Grove; sister: Sheryl Tolly (Jim) of Broomfield, Colorado; and nephew: Brian Tolly (Cathy) of Colorado.  He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew: Steve Tolly.  

The visitation for Jay will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Masonic Rites will take place at 7:00pm.  The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Max Miller Ellinger, 89, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at his residence.

Max was born November 28, 1931 in Pana, the son of William and Velma (Bond) Ellinger. He married Maxine M. Miller on December 11, 1952 in Pocahontas, AR. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2016.

Max proudly served our country in Company 559, Ft. Monroe, Virginia of the United States Army during the Korean War. He had attained the rank of Corporal when he was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1961. Max was a carpenter by trade, and member of the Local 16. In his spare time, he utilized his talents to help many other people with their home projects. He retired after over 50 years of service.

Max was witty, with a caring nature, and to say that he was hard working would be an understatement. He was loved, and respected by all who knew him. Max enjoyed riding motorcycles, reading, and the occasional political banter. Of all his hobbies and interests, he especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy C. Ellinger; and son-in-law, John Wilcox.

Max is survived by his children, Marie (Mike) Wilcox of Springfield, Bruce (Patti) Ellinger of Taylorville, Vicki (Rod) McMahon of Taylorville, and Valerie (Jim) Ellinger of Taylorville; grandchildren, Aubrey (T.J.) Ellinger, Erin Ellinger, D.J. (Lauren) Colonius, Brian (Tracee) Wilcox, Stefanie (Georges) Colonius, Megan (Ethan) Hallberg, Lindsay (Brandon) Fox, and Maxx Ellinger; great grandchildren, Jackson Fritz, Olivia Hallberg, Sydney Hallberg, Grayson Ellinger, Teegan Jones, Samson Colonius, Daniel Colonius, Amos Colonius, Ezekiel Colonius, Kelsey Colonius, Kinsley Colonius, and Dean Fox; and several nieces and nephews.

Dean Lupton, 70, of Nokomis passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 6:53 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on October 17, 1950 in Shelbyville, IL the son of Carl F. “Curly” and Florence E. (Schwerdtfeger) Lupton. He married Brenda Howell on January 26, 1974 in Nokomis, IL and she preceded him in death on October 17, 2006. Dean was the manager of Main Street Federal Auto Parts in Taylorville from 1974-2000 and then worked at GSI from 2000-2018.

Sarah “Sissy” Nylene Ethridge, 81 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 12:10 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on August 7, 1939 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of William and Hollis D. (Ethridge) Moore.

David Carter, 79, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:06 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
David was born August 6, 1941 in Kincaid, the son of Henry George and Charlie Jewel (Griffin) Carter.  He attended South Fork schools, and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Army.  David served in the 2nd Cavalry and MACSOG during the Vietnam War.  Upon his honorable discharge, he worked at Peabody #10 and Crowne #2 mines, before relocating to Texas and then Florida as a carpenter.  David moved back to Taylorville and was a member of the Carpenters Local 270 until his retirement.  In his later years, he spent his time as a handyman.  David enjoyed helping people, and could fix anything for them.  His passion was Invicta Watches, and he would spend many hours tinkering with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Brenda Rochelle Carter; infant brothers, Tracy Dean Carter and William J. Carter; and 4 half-sisters.
David is survived by his sons, Tracy Lee Chronister, David John Chronister, Jerry Chronister, and Rick Webb; several grandchildren; brother, George (wife, Judith) Carter of Kincaid; and his best friend, Frank D. Brown of Loami.
David made the gift of donating his body for scientific research.

Stephanie Leanne (Emerson) Goodrich, 32, of Taylorville, passed away unexpectedly at 1:14 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Stephanie was born March 4, 1989 in Taylorville, the daughter of Frank T. and Mickey (McDonald) Emerson. As a young girl, she received second runner-up at the Miss Tri-County Pageant. Stephanie graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 2007. She participated in Madrigals, choir, band, pit orchestra for every musical, and played on the soccer team all four years. Stephanie also volunteered her time to the community, where she was awarded the Gold Award by the Girl Scouts, the highest honor they bestow upon a member. She loved children, and volunteered at PREP, helping with their annual pre-school screenings and literacy nights.

Stephanie married Glen “Freddie” Goodrich III on July 9, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, and the following day recited their vows once again at Freddie’s church, First Church of the Nazarene in Taylorville. Stephanie and Freddie have remained members of both churches. She is also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1516, member of the Women of the Moose #1263, and an alumnus of the Taylorville Choir. Stephanie was currently employed at McDonald’s in Taylorville as a Crew Trainer. She loved her job, and it showed with how she treated all patrons with kindness. Stephanie had an amazing smile that lifted the spirits of everyone who came in contact with her.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Christine Emerson; sister, Katelyn Emerson; paternal grandparents, Bea and Frank T. Emerson, Sr.; and uncle, John Damarin.

Stephanie is survived by her husband, Freddie Goodrich, III of Taylorville; parents, Mickey and Frank T. Emerson, Jr. of Taylorville; brother, F. Thad (wife, Kayla) Emerson of Taylorville; maternal grandparents, Pat and David L. McDonald of Taylorville; aunts, Jean McDonald of Edinburg, P.J. (husband, Bob) Ruckstuhl of Newberry, OH, Kathy (husband, David) Johnson of Owings, MD, Vanessa (husband, Joe) Leach of Taylorville, Karen (husband, Porky) Mills of Taylorville, and Diana Damarin of Taylorville; uncles, Chris (wife, Beth) McDonald of Urbana, Charlie (wife, Paula) McDonald of Lake Charles, LA, David McDonald of Taylorville, and Bart (wife, Julie) Emerson of Taylorville; mother and father-in-law, Jeanie and Glen F. Goodrich, Jr. of Mt. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Brett Deon Rickman, 54 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 4:30 a.m. at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on July 23, 1967 in Montgomery, AL the son of B.G. Rickman and JoAnn (Austin) Dobyns. He married Nancy (Hogge) Rickman and they later divorced.

He is survived by his Sons: Timmy Jones of Lovington, MI; Brett Rickman and William Rickman of Taylorville; Daughter: Nikki Jones of Lovington, MI; grandchildren: Jayden Jones, Airen Jones, Amary Jones, Aiden Zuniga and Alayna Jones; Sister: Rhonda (Rick) Ondrey; Brothers: Rex (Terri) Rickman; Jerry (Wendy) Dobyns; Several great friends, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father: B.G. Rickman, brother: Bart Rickman, step-father: Jerry Dobyns, nephew: James Lee Rogers; and uncle Sonny Austin.

Charles A. Carroll, 91 of Hillsboro and formerly of Nokomis and Fillmore passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 6:36 p.m. at Montgomery County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs, IL. He was born on December 27, 1929 in Oconee, IL the son of John Carmen and Iola Fern (Craig) Carroll. He married Erma Mae Alexander-Burk on January 14, 1967 in Hillsboro, IL and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2007. Charles worked as a High Lift Operator for 38 years at Central Illinois Stone which became Material Service before his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fillmore, IL, he was a 40 Year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his Daughters: Susie (Jim) Anderson of Flower Mound, TX; Cindy (George) McMorrow of Ocean, NJ; Julie (Bob) Burnham of Jackson, MO; Grandchildren: Patrick (Keely) Anderson of Van Alstyne, TX; Jenny (Tyler) Grawe of Colorado Springs, CO; Tara (Dan) Walker of Belmar, NJ; Caitlin McMorrow of Ocean, NJ; Lauren (Hugh) McGowan of Cape Girardeau, MO; Landon Burnham of Jackson, MO; Great-Grandchildren: Christian and Kennedy Grawe of Colorado Springs, CO; Case Anderson of Van Alstyne, TX; Jacob Charles and Logan Walker of Belmar, NJ; Sister: LaWanda Anderson of Nokomis, IL; Brothers: Ed Carroll of Bradenton, FL; Lynn (Sheila) Carroll of Oconee, IL; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 10:00-12:00 Noon at Fillmore United Methodist Church in Fillmore. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 12:00 noon at the Fillmore United Methodist Church in Fillmore with Pastor Kathy Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore.

Donna Marie Pasqueno, 80, of Jeisyville, passed away at 5:02 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

Donna was born November 13, 1940 in Taylorville, the daughter of Raymond Jones and Myrtle Anne (Yard) Jones Shatas. She married David C. Daigh, Sr. on December 30, 1956, and they later divorced. Donna then married Martin J. “Peanie” Pasqueno on September 12, 1980 in Rolla, MO. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2011.

Donna worked for Pamida for many years, before attending beauty school and operating her own salon out of her house. Her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren, and she especially loved lounging around the pool with them.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dawn Harden; brothers, Joe and Tom Jones; and sister, Bea Emerson.

Donna is survived by her children, Rena (husband, Gary) Miller of Taylorville, and David C. (wife, Mary) Daigh, Jr. of Owaneco; step-children, Marta (husband, Kevin) Frick of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Donnie (wife, Debbie) Pasqueno of Mt. Olive; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Mary Mollet of Taylorville, Bud (wife, Nancy) Jones of Taylorville, and Bill (wife, Janet) Jones of Assumption; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be accorded and no public services will be held. Inurnment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Kim Edward Miller, 69 of Springfield formerly of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 12:06 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL surrounded by family. He was born on July 14, 1952 in Springfield, IL the son of Hillman and Nianna (Cleveland) Miller. Kim was the owner of Car Parlor Detailing Shop in Taylorville.

He was preceded in death by his Father: Hilman B. Miller, two brothers: Jerry E. Miller, Danny Miller, Two daughters: Tina Cathy and Kimberly Jackson.

Kim leaves to cherish his memories: mother: Nianna Stennis of East St. Louis; sons: Joshua “Josh” Miller, Jeremiah “Bugs” Miller both of Taylorville; Kim Edward Parrish “Kim Kim”, Richard “Huff” Parrish, Aaron Parrish, Jimmy Lee Watson, Brandon Kirkwood, and Edward Watson all of Springfield. Mary Claire Lynn, 98, died peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at her home in rural Stonington. She was born on July 16, 1923, the daughter of Leslie and Louie (Davidson) Gorden. She married Joe Lynn on May 6, 1944, in Stonington, and they were happily married for over 66 years until his death on August 26, 2010.

Mary graduated high school, and later from Brown’s Business College, but rather preferred her life as a farmer’s wife and homemaker raising her three daughters. She was an active long-time member of Old Stonington Baptist Church where she played piano and taught Sunday School as well as Junior Church. She volunteered her time helping with the Rural Rustlers 4-H Club, the American Cancer Drive, and as the Chair for UNICEF Fund Drive for many years, all in Stonington. Mary truly enjoyed baking pies, cooking, and canning, and was known especially for her lime green pickles. Her family enjoyed the yearly tradition of freezing sweet corn with her. She loved her time gardening and working her flower beds. Mary was known for her patient, charitable heart and she will be dearly missed.

Mary is survived by her daughters: Mary Alice (John) Bonsoe of Metamora, and Judy (Wayne) Swigert of Taylorville; grandchildren: Keri (Matt) Lee, Tim (Lisa) Bonsoe, Ashley (Jesse) Walker, Stephanie (Kirk) Kendle; great grandchildren: Allie Bonsoe, Evan Bonsoe, Cecelia Lee, Vivian Lee, Brynn Walker, Coralie Walker, Adalise Kendle, and Gracelyn Kendle; one brother: Marvin (Esther) Gorden of Moweaqua; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Barbara Jo Lynn, and one brother, Kenneth Gorden.

The funeral service for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Old Stonington Baptist Church, with Pastor Scott Parks officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Old Stonington Baptist Church or Old Stonington Cemetery.  CDC health guidelines will be strictly followed, and the use of masks is REQUIRED for services inside the church.
