Mary Elizabeth Heberling, 94, of Taylorville passed away at 2:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Taylorville Care Center. She was born on January 21, 1923 in Ricks Township, Christian County, the daughter of Walter Gabriel and Sarah Maude (Woodall) Hill. On September 21, 1946, she married Edward Andrew Heberling in Taylorville. Mary spend her entire life working along Ed’s side, in all aspects of farming, mainly south of Taylorville. Whether it was helping milk the herd of Guernsey cows or driving a truck for harvest, they worked as a team. She had a great love for cooking and gardening and made sure that anyone who helped on the farm was well-fed. Mary could handle a 12-inch cast iron skillet with no effort at all. Most of all she loved and adored all of her grandchildren. Mary and Ed enjoyed watching 3 generations of kids exhibit livestock at various fairs throughout the years and attended many a performance at Nashville North.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years: Ed; sons: Edwin Eugene “Gene” (Carol) Heberling of rural Taylorville, Robert Dale “Rob” (Kathy) Heberling of Taylorville, and Marion Lee “Punk”(Jodi) Heberling of Owaneco; 10 grandchildren: Holly Lomprez of Taylorville, Christopher (Amy) Heberling of Waynesville, Missouri, Andy Heberling (Jenny Pace) of Taylorville, Wendy (Shannon) Snow of Plainfield, Jennifer (Billie) Heberling of Taylorville, Eddie (Laura) Heberling of Blufton, South Carolina, Beth (Jeremy) Piatt of Taylorville, Robert Edward “Ward” Heberling of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mathew Heberling of Owaneco, and Amy Heberling of Owaneco; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws: Lois Hill and Anna Lou Yoho of Springfield and Grace Greffe of Taylorville; brother-in-laws: Jordan Heberling of Owaneco and Leroy Heberling of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Glen, Benjamin, Elmer, Paul, and Charles; sisters: Jessie Avis, Wilma Lamb, Alta Smith, Wanda Dodson, and Betty Benson; as well as grandson: Gabriel Alan Heberling and great granddaughter: Jessica Kettlekamp.

Rose Marie Kocurek, 73 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 7:50 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on June 4, 1943 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of Mike and Dorothy (Krouse) Banko. She married Aime Stephen Kocurek on August 20, 1960 by Father Leo Sustak at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville, IL and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2016. Rosie will most be remembered by her wonderful cooking abilities. She was known as the “Pie Lady” or “Peanut Brittle” maker as she made many pies and countless pounds of peanut brittle during the Christmas season. She was still getting request last year. Rosie and Amie were owners of the Sugar Shack bakeries for many years and were often told they had the best doughnuts around. Rosie was a very hard worker and was determined to do things on he own no matter the struggle. She struggled a lot, but fought until the very end. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but mostly by her family who were fortunate to have her to learn from and love. She loved being involved in all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives no matter the event.

Patsy Dyer, 76 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 12:14 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. She was born on January 29, 1941 in Benton, IL the Daughter of Robert N. and Ruby L. (Wilkerson) Gibbs. She married Glen Dyer on October 6, 1962 in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on May 20, 2013. She was a member of Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Taylorville and Tabernacle of Praise Church in Taylorville. Patsy loved going to church, reading her Bible and being on the go. She also enjoyed her time spent at the Christian County Senior Citizens Center in Taylorville. Doing the work of the Lord was very important to Patsy and she spent a lot of time at the local nursing homes reading the Bible to the residents.

Surviving are her Son: Jeff Dyer of Taylorville, IL. She was preceded in death by her Parents.

Elizabeth Allison Martin, 97, of Taylorville, passed away at 6:44 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born December 12, 1919, in Cleaton, Kentucky, the daughter of Harmon and Bertha (Sampson) Allison. During WWII, Elizabeth worked to support the war effort. She worked at Western Cartridge in Alton, Allis Chalmers in Springfield, and the Illiopolis munitions plant. She spent many years working for the State of Illinois in health services, running a halfway house in Peoria where she assisted many parolees and mentally disabled. Elizabeth was a skilled quilter and was well known for the dumplings she made.

She is survived by her sons: Jack (Helen) Martin of Arlington Heights, Donald (Cindy) Martin, of Springfield, and James Martin of Springfield; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including special caregivers: Linda (Tom) Bellegante of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: “Duke” Allison; sisters: Rita DeMartini and Wanda Danko; and grandchildren: Brad Martin and Lori Martin.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with the Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating. Velma Lorrene Nicks, 96, of Nokomis, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 7:20 p.m. at Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nokomis. She was born on June 7, 1920 in Nokomis, IL, Daughter of Albert and Mary (Grimes) Howell. She married Anthony Nicks on May 2, 1953 in Effingham, IL and he later preceded her in death on January 20, 1999. She worked as a cook at South School in Nokomis and she managed the Edinburg School Cafeteria for 25 years.

She is survived by her Nieces: Joyce Owens, Carol Beeler, Judy Spindel and Mary Ann Howell. Nephews: Lonnie and Dean Compton. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Siblings: Grace Nash, Lewis Howell, Leona Kroenlein, Mary Workman, Dale Howell and Marjorie Compton.

Elmer Ray Beaty, 80 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 8:06 p.m. at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. He was born on January 13, 1937 in Christian County, IL the Son of Glen E. and Beulah V. (Woods) Beaty. He married Sheryl Hill in Palmer, IL and they later divorced. He then Married Rochelle “Shelly” Elston Black on December 24, 1986 in Saginaw, MI. Elmer worked as a Carpenter for Local 334 in Saginaw, MI and then later maintenance for Design Corrugating in Taylorville, IL.

Mary Jo Robinson, 64 of Taylorville, passed away at 10:48 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on August 3, 1952, the daughter of Clarence “Joe” and Mary (McAvoy) Emerson. On February 13, 1981 she married Morris Robinson in Stonington. Mary Jo retired after 25 years with Walmart as a Department Manager. She was a member of Moose Lodge #1516 and the Women of the Moose. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, bowling, playing piano and cards and was an avid Cubs fan. She enjoyed supporting her children in all the sporting events they played in. Mary Jo adored her grandkids and loved all the time she spent with them.

She is survived by her husband: Morris Robinson of Taylorville; children: Kristi Luttrell (David) of Edinburg, Mark Robinson (Christine) of Naperville, Kim Timmons (Jason) of Bloomington, and Doug Robinson (Brandy) of Temple, Texas; grandchildren: Cortez Luttrell, Matthew Luttrell, Payton Robinson, Cameron Robinson, Avery Timmons, Austin Timmons, Alaina Timmons, and Dax Robinson; brothers: Robert Emerson (Anita) of Loves Park, and Pat Emerson (Chris) of Erie, Colorado; and uncle: John McAvoy of Taylorville. Donald Orville Wareham, 90 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 8:24 a.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born on December 17, 1926 in King Township in Christian County, IL the Son of Orville and Flossie (Payne) Wareham. He married Bonnie J. Vedder on January 25, 1948 in the Nokomis United Methodist Church in Nokomis, IL. Don was the owner and operator of Wareham’s Dairy and Wareham’s Security in Taylorville. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Doneff and USS Antietam. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #73, VFW Post #4495 and NRA. He served several terms as a Taylorville City Alderman.

Diane Louise “Bitsy” Oldham, 57 of Taylorville passed away peacefully at 10:20 PM on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Taylorville Care Center.

Bitsy was born on June 7, 1959 at Taylorville the daughter of Robert and Dolores (Dycus) Oldham. She was preceded in death by her parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; 2 aunts and 2 uncles.

Bitsy was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorville. She competed for several years in the Special Olympics, winning many medals. She worked several years at the Christian County Mental Health Workshop and graduated from Central School with the class of 1980.

She is survived by: Sister, Rebecca (husband, David) Reed of Edinburg, IL; Brothers, David (wife, Norma) Oldham and Douglas (wife, Dana) Oldham both of Taylorville, IL; Step brother, Michael Izatt of Chicago, IL; Nieces, Beth Oldham and Keri Oldham both of Taylorville, IL; Nephew, Timothy Oldham of Springfield, IL; Great niece, Isabel Vincent; Great nephews, Kristopher Oldham and Aden Toberman; 3 cousins.

Thomas Edward “Tom” Kersey, age 65, of Mattoon went to his eternal peace at 5:28 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Memorial Mass for family and friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Mattoon. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Tom was born on January 6, 1952 in Mattoon, the son of Roscoe and Virginia (Byus) Kersey. He married Susan Jane Simmering on December 22, 1972. She preceded him to heaven in 2011.

Survivors include his son, Tim (Charity) Kersey of Woodstock, GA; daughters, Mary Ellen (Kathleen) Kersey of Nampa, ID and Kelly (Jim) Standish of Dawson, IL; grandchildren, Julia and Xander Kersey, Taylor and Brendon West; brothers, Dave Kersey of Mattoon, IL and Tony Kersey, IL of Taylorville; sisters, Judy Canupp of Washington, MO and Suzie Wright of Mattoon, IL. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Meredith “Bud” Kersey and sister, Anita Kersey.

Tom spent his working life in healthcare, working first at Mattoon Memorial Hospital and then at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center for over 40 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IL. Tom was active in many community services, donating his time to worthwhile causes including; The American Red Cross, United Way and Sarah Bush Lincoln Foundation. He was active in the Loyal Order of the Moose fraternity where he achieved the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. He was a 3^rd degree Mason. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

James M. Messmore, 64, of Irving, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9:07 a.m. at his residence in rural Irving. He was born on July 5, 1952 in Decatur, IL the Son of John and Dora (Keown) Messmore. He married Yvonne Joyce on March 24, 1973 in Witt, IL and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2016. He worked as a mechanic and Truck driver for K & K Coating and he was later the Owner and Operator of James and James Trucking and Sooner Sun Tanning.

Hazel A. Augenstein, 83, of Taylorville passed away at 4:29 A.M. on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 21, 1933 in Arthur, the daughter of John and Glyda (Kingery) Raymer. She married Don R. Augenstein on July 9, 1955 in Mattoon and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1982. Hazel was a homemaker and a member of the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Moose Lodge in Mattoon, and previously worked as a door greeter at Walmart and Dixie Cream in Effingham. Hazel enjoyed crocheting and often made items to give to babies at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, where she was also part of the Auxillary. She also enjoyed making mints and volunteered as a ticket taker for Stewardson/Strasburg sporting events.

She is survived by her children: William Augenstein (Rebecca) of Mattoon, Rhonda Scothorne of Springfield, Jim “Augie” Augenstein (MariEtta) of Athens, and Veronica Howard (Nathan) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Tara Spraker (Rob), Jeffrey Augenstein, Sarah Fisher (Kenny), Jesse Cobble (Barbie), David Scothorne, Christopher Scothorne, Derrik Augenstein, Natalie Howard, Kimberly Howard, Drake Howard; brother: Herold Raymer (Ellen) of Neoga. Norma Jean McKinney, 87 of Morrisonville, joined her heavenly family on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.

She was born on July 22, 1929 at Morrisonville the daughter of Clarence Edward and Lillian Jane (McDaniel) Eyman. Jean married Charles E. McKinney on June 19, 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville; he preceded her in death on December 6, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Brother, Warren E. Eyman; Brother in law, William “Bill” Kent; Nephew, Benjamin Kent; Great nephew, Kinsey Muffick.

Jean was a 60 year member of Leslie Reddick American Legion Post 721 Ladies Auxiliary, Morrisonville United Methodist Church, Rebekah Orient Lodge and Eastern Star. She was loved by all who knew her and will be forever missed.

Kevin Wayne Klee, 43, of Taylorville took his own life on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in his residence. He was born on July 3, 1973, the son of Jimmy and Martha (Drake) Klee. Kevin graduated from Pana High School, and later from the University of Illinois with a double major Bachelor degree in Arts for English, and in Science for Psychology. Kevin loved making people laugh, and he enjoyed performing stand-up comedy in his spare time. He competed in “The Funniest Man in Austin” contest. He also had a passion for acting, having acted in Idiocracy, Gretchen, as well as being an extra in Friday Night Lights. He adored the Yoga community, and trained in California to become an instructor. When Kevin wasn’t busy entertaining others, he found solace in traveling and camping, often in solitude. The family’s wish is that for anyone who is struggling, when life seems too much to handle, please reach out for help.

He is survived by his mother: Marty (John) Bunzey of Taylorville; sister: Erin Klee of Springfield; grandmother: Merida Drake of Lincoln; aunts and uncles: Diane Moore of Pana, Warren Drake (Gerry) of Mahomet, Harold Drake (Nancy) of Beason, and Laura G Enger (Marc) of Farmer City; and several cousins. Kevin was preceded in death by his father and grandparents: Wayne and Aggie Klee and David L. Drake.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, also in the church. Pastor Becky Lembke will officiate. Kevin’s body will be cremated following the services and a scattering will take place at a later date. Deborah Louise “Debbie” Schnell, 66, of Taylorville died at 11:58 P.M. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. She was born on October 28, 1950, the daughter of Leroy and Vivian (Tolly) Whitehead. On August 10, 1996, she married Douglas Lynn Schell in Taylorville. Debbie worked for over 37 years in the vehicle services section of the Illinois Secretary of State’s office. She proudly served under 7 Secretaries of State including: Powell, Lewis, Howlett, Dixon, Edgar, Ryan, and White. After retirement, she and Doug started Schnell Services Inc. where she was President and CEO. She was a past member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Debbie was also a former member of the Taylorville Lioness, treasurer for the Taylorville Eagle’s Women’s Auxiliary, secretary for the Christian County Republican Women’s Club, and was a candidate for Taylorville Township Supervisor. In her free time, she enjoyed collection angels, and cherished the times she was able to spoil her great nephews, Hunter and Remington.

Debbie is survived by her husband: Doug L. Schnell of Taylorville; daughter: Nicole “Nikki” Ayers (Steven) of Taylorville; and brother: Larry Whitehead (Kay) of Aviston; and former husband: Joseph Hunt of Mayfield, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: Richard Lynn Whitehead of Taylorville and mother and father-in-law: Duane and Janet Schnell of Kankakee.

A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 P.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Marion P. Clark, 92, of Taylorville passed away at 12:14 A.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on September 1, 1924 in Grand Tower, Illinois, the daughter of Elbert L. and Lola (Wilson) Poe. She married Cyrus F. Clark on October 26, 1946 and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1981. Marion was a World War II Veteran of the AAF/WAC. She was a lifetime member of the AMVETS and American Legion and a charter member of Women in Military Service for America. She was also a member of the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Marion taught school for many years in Sikeston, Missouri in the gifted program, and special education in Cobden and Taylorville. She was a Director Emeritus of the Taylorville Public Schools Foundation. She enjoyed playing Bridge and was a voracious reader, always keeping up on current events. She enjoyed basketball and football and for many years kept the clock for Jr. High boy’s basketball games. She often enjoyed placing wagers on ballgames, but the bet was always a Coke. Marion loved her sweets, especially cheesecake and Lorna Doone cookies, and would often eat only part of her meal to ensure room for dessert.

She is survived by her daughters: Margaretha Strawn (Thomas) of Taylorville and Jenness Starks (John) of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren: Thomas C Strawn (companion, Barb Magness) of Taylorville, Amy M. Strawn of Springfield, Annie Dolan (Kevin) of Seattle, Washington, and William C. Starks (Sara) of Seattle; great grandchildren: Marshal Tucker Strawn, Daniel Dolan, William Dolan, and Henry Starks; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with military honors. Visitation will be held from 10 until the time of the service. Inurnment will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower. A luncheon will follow the inurnment on Monday at the Grand Tower Community Center. James E. Nation, 85 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 9:17 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on October 15, 1931 in Mt. Auburn Township, the Son of William Isaac and Cora Helen (Ashinhurst) Nation. His first marriage was to Lola Chamness and they were later divorced. He then married Wilma Brunk they also were later divorced. On October 13,1999 he married Kay Parks. He worked as a Farmer and an auto parts salesman. He served in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic and received many medals. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, Taylorville VFW Post #4495.

Dale William McQuire, 48, of Assumption, died at 9:39 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in his home. He was born on August 4, 1968 in Taylorville, the son of Gerald and Karen (Tirey) McQuire. Dale loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed weight lifting. Dale was a loving son, brother, uncle, and grandson, and he had a big heart. He will be dearly missed.

Dale is survived by his father, Gerald (Sue) McQuire of Jeiseyville; brothers: Shawn (Kathleen) McQuire of Moweaqua, Chris (Melanie) McQuire of Edinburg, and half-brother: Mike Rakers of Pana; daughters: Kaylee (Brad) Turner of Taylorville, Alison McQuire of Taylorville, and Mariah McQuire of Crown Point, IN; nieces and nephews: Jakob McQuire, Christopher McQuire, Hunter Vocks, Karley Durbin, Ashley Snow, Carissa McQuire, Veronica McQuire, Amanda Crist, Alaina Calloway, Lainey Sides, Josh Nation, and Christian McQuire.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Palmer, and grandparents, George “Pop” and Vivian McQuire.
