Raymond Lamar Noreuil, 87 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10:05 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on October 24, 1931 in Tovey, IL the son of Oscar and Celine (Maniez) Noreuil. He married Lorene Marie Parrish on March 3, 1951 in the First Baptist Church in Taylorville and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2017. Ray retired as the owner and operator of Ray’s Transmission in Taylorville after 50 years in business. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the United States Army and a member of the VFW Post # 4495 in Taylorville.

He is survived by his Daughter: Deborah (Michael) Nickey of Urbana, IL; Grandson: James J. Paul of Taylorville, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Mackenzie Raymond of Taylorville, IL, Isaiah Nickey of Champaign, IL; Great-Great-Grandchildren: Nora Louise Hushour, Kallum Hughes; Brothers: Tom Noreuil of Springfield, IL and Robert (Judy) Noreuil of Taylorville, IL; Sister: Adell Barger of Taylorville, IL; Sister-in-Law: Janet (Jimmy) Roach; Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson Timothy Paul, four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Memorial Service will follow the visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home with Pastor James Jones officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside honors.

Kathy Sue Flowers-Light, of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, September 24th at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Kathy was born on October 9th, 1953 to Katherine "Judy" Taylor Dains, and Alpha Dean Musser. Kathy grew up in Nokomis where she met and married Tim Flowers on June 5th, 1971.  They had three children together.  The couple later divorced. Kathy spent most of her life in the Nokomis/Fillmore area.  She enjoyed crafting and being outdoors. Kathy had a love for dogs and had several faithful companions over the years.  The latest being Piper. Kathy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and aunt.  Anyone who knew her loved her.  Kathy could always be counted on to lend a helping hand, offer a piece of advice, listen when you needed it and offer up a glass of sweet tea.

Kathy’s greatest joy in life was her kids and grandkids.  Kathy is survived by her children, Timothy Warren Flowers and companion Mary Burrell of Effingham; Joshua Dean Flowers and fiancée Ashley Harlow of Nokomis; Tiffany Brooke Flowers and companion James Porter of Arizona; Grandchildren, Dakota and Haley Thompson, Carter and Chloe Flowers, Lilly Flowers, Karlee Wells, and Xayden Flowers; Siblings, Lana (Earl) Loomis of Taylorville, Sandy Cutright of Bridgeport, Tammy Cook of Edinburg, Lisa (Scott) Heldebrandt of Nokomis, Melissa Cook and companion Steve Scott of Pana, Jeff Musser of Missouri, and Donald Musser of Lawrenceville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Jerry Dains, and sister Deana Potts.

Betty Jane Burnett, 88 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 4:40 p.m. at Life’s Journey Senior Living Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on June 23, 1931 in Fancy Prairie, IL the daughter of Frederick Rexford and Mollie (Downs) Burnett. Betty retired as a Dictaphone operator for Franklin Life after 35 years. She was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church and The Christian County Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her Brother: Charles (Marjorie) Burnett of Vero Beach, FL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Julia (Wood) Redden, 85, of Lincoln, IL, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Julia was born October 8, 1933 in rural Christian County, the daughter of George and Julia Marguerite (Tucker) Wood.  She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1951, and went on to work and retire from Consolidated Communications in Taylorville.  Julia enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening her roses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Joseph DeWilde, Mel Poole, and John Redden; and two brothers, Clark and Virgil Wood.

Julia is survived by her sons, John (Arlene) DeWilde of Lincoln, IL, James (Sharon) DeWilde of Effingham, IL, and George DeWilde of Lincoln, IL; grandchildren, Caitlin (Karl) DeWilde Beck of St. Louis, MO, Adam (Suzy) DeWilde of Madison, WI, Melissa (Tyler) Kirk of Sterling, IL, and Jordan DeWilde of Rockford, IL; great grandchildren, Griffin, Marshall, Josie, and Henry; and several nieces and nephews.

Tony Stolsek, 89 of Nokomis passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. at Heritage Manor in Pana, IL. He was born on February 6, 1930 in Chicago, IL the son of Anton and Matilda (Ratay) Stolsek. Tony worked as an operator at Mallinckrodt chemicals and he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Waples-Bauer American Legion Post #94 in Nokomis, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Albert Stolsek.

Mrs. Della Rose Graham, 81, of Bulpitt, IL passed from this life at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Life’s Journey Senior Living, Taylorville, IL

She was born in New City, IL Saturday, October 16, 1937 the daughter of John Wesley and Edna Levina (Hunt) Neal.
The former Miss Neal married Ron Graham Sr, on April 30, 1953 in Corinth, Mississippi. Della was a member of Taylorville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Red Hat Society.  She worked for a time at the Kincaid School Cafeteria and had volunteered as a Democrat Election Judge.  She enjoyed horseback riding, cruising on her Kawasaki 100 around town, antiquing, shopping, helping prepare meals for the fish dinners at the Midland United Methodist Church in Kincaid.  Her absolute greatest joy was her family. 

Surviving are her husband Ron of Bulpitt, daughter Pamela (Randy) Aymer of Kincaid, IL son Ron (Jennifer-Irene) Graham of Virden, IL daughter Jennifer (Scott) Young of Springfield, IL along with 8 grandchildren Randy Paul Aymer II, Wesley Sherman Aymer, Nathan Dean Graham, Nicholas James Graham, Wesley Neal Graham, Grant Sherman Graham, Rachel Levina Rose Young, Scott Gregory Young (Jr) II, 7 great grandchildren Victoria, Elizabeth, Randy Paul Aymer III, Kaden Dean, Remington Dale, Axel Isaiah and Lotte James, a great great grandson Silver Ray along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Charles “Chuck” Bailey, 59, of Herrick, IL passed away at home on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones.

Chuck was born on December 20, 1959, in Fayetteville, NC, the son of Robert and Verna (Jones) Bailey. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was proud to have served his country. He and Elizabeth Miller were married on December 25, 1990. Chuck worked for FedEx in Effingham, IL and was a truck driver before joining FedEx. He enjoyed working on cars and playing his guitar.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Bailey of Herrick, IL; mother, Verna Jones of Beecher City, IL; daughters: Brandi McClain of Lillian, TX, Jennifer Miller of Herrick, IL and Rikki (Brad) Tilton of Effingham, IL; sons: Andrew Wooddell of Decatur, IL and Daniel Bailey of Shelbyville, IL; brothers: Richard Bailey of Beecher City, IL, Thomas Bailey of Effingham, IL, Keith Bailey of Imperial, MO, Roger (Gena) Bailey of Mattoon, IL and Alex Dishauser of Ponca City, OK; sisters: Robin (Don) Simmons of Ponca City, OK and Donna Bush of Stillwater, OK.

Jacqueline (Goodwin) Mitchell, 89, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 3:03 a.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Aperion Care Capitol in Springfield, IL.

Jackie was born September 9, 1930 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Theodore M. and Ruth L. (Kelso) Goodwin.  She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1948. Jackie worked for 21 years as an office coordinator for the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid until her retirement in 1987.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed making jewelry, spending time with her friends, and spoiling her dog.  Jackie attended Athens Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth and Don Goodwin; sister-in-law, Bridget Goodwin; and son-in-law, Mike Kerney.

Jackie is survived by her children, Pamela (Walters) Kerney and Richard “Butch” (wife, Pamela Weckerly) Walters, both of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Nancy (husband, Matt) Heberling Colbrook, Shannon (fiancé, Eric Martin) Heberling, Eddie (wife, Laura) Heberling, Amanda (husband, Jeremy) Walters Walker, and Kody Walters; great grandchildren, Jhett, Jhadyn, Jhia, Jhak, Jhude, Jhenner, Jhordyn, Jhorjie, and Jhacek Walker, Mattyx and Liam Page, Rosella, William, and Zettie Colbrook, Carson Heberling, Addison Martin, and Hollis Heberling; sister-in-law, Janet Goodwin of Aurora, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

David Todd Hawkins, 51 of Stonington passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 3:50 p.m. at his home in Stonington, IL. He was born on January 6, 1968 in St. Louis, MO the son of David and Nancy (Sikes) Hawkins. Todd worked as a laborer at Nudo Plastics in Springfield, IL. He was known for his love of family, friends, and fishing. He was a great father and a loving son.

Paul Charles “Pops” Yucaneer, 83, of Owaneco, Illinois, and formerly Stratford, CT., passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Paul was born February 1, 1936, in New Haven, CT., the son of Charles P. Yucaneer and Marie Horton Yucaneer. He married Gail Fuehrer in New Haven, CT., July 29, 1962. Gail passed away in 2008. Paul worked for the Town of Stratford, Public Works as a tree surgeon for 37 years before retiring. Before Alzheimer’s took over, Paul loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Paul moved to Illinois in 2012 to be closer to his grandchildren and great granddaughter. He will be remembered as a happy soul who loved his fishing rod and family.

Paul is survived by his loving son Jeffrey (Christine) Yucaneer, Owaneco; son Brian (Kim) Yucaneer; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Alana Yucaneer all of Owaneco; Heathyr and Douglas; great grandchildren Lennon and Cyrus; sister, Cathy Magyar of CT.

 
In addition to his wife Gail, Paul was preceded in death by his parents Charles Yucaneer and Marie Horton Konstance, step-father Howard Konstance, brothers-in-law Russell Fuehrer and Andy Magyar.

In accordance with Paul’s wishes to help others, his remains have been gifted to the SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Elner F. Russell, 77 of Pana, passed away at 5:50a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Heritage Health in Pana.  She was born on December 13, 1941 in Beecher City, the daughter of Sereno Wade and Leona Violet (Renfrow) Tipsword.  She married Carl Leroy Russell on January 17, 1969 in Tower Hill.  Elner worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant in several area healthcare facilities.  In her free time, she enjoyed reading, taking walks, window shopping, and playing the occasional video game.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.  She was a member of the Shelbyville congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

 
Elner is survived by her husband: Carl Leroy Russell of Pana; children: John Russell, Serena Merritt (Joe) and Peter Russell, all of Pana; grandchildren: Joseph Merritt and Kaitlyn Merritt; great granddaughter: Alice Eckhart; siblings: Bessie Potter, Leona Mae McMillan, Lavesta Rickfelder, and Linda Canada; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Margaret Carlene Fenicle, 79 of Stonington passed away on Saturday, September 14th, 2019 at 2:27 a.m at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 8th, 1940 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Carl Franklin and Essie Mae (Foster) Brandon. Her mother, Essie Mae passed away in the first year of her life and Louada (Fleming) Brandon became her mother. She married Larry Dean Moore on May 29, 1958. Larry and Carlene had two daughters and traveled the United States while Larry was in the United States Marine Corp and later returned to Taylorville, IL to raise their family and were blessed with another baby girl. They continued to live in Taylorville until Larry passed away in 1993. She married Thomas Fenicle in 1996. Breathe Easy Now, Our Beautiful Mama! You are the light and the strength that fills our heart. You are the epitome of love! Family and friends have always meant so much to you. Your smile could always light up a room and turn a dark, gloomy day into hope for a brighter tomorrow. Whenever you wrapped your arms around us, everything was right in the world. I’m sure Shannon, Daddy, Grandma Essie Mae, Grandpa and Grandma Brandon, Uncle Bub, Uncle Frank, Uncle John, Uncle Dan, Aunt Betty, Aunt Rose, Aunt Nora, all our lost babies, and so many, many more were there to greet you and are in your loving arms once again! You helped to bring countless babies into this world in the 35 years that you worked as an Obstetric Technician at St Vincent Memorial Hospital. Your loving arms and hands swaddled and cuddled each and every baby as they took their first breaths. You passed your precious gift of Love to them from their beginning. I’m sure that Elvis Presley is singing while you are dancing in Heaven! I know that one day you will be there to welcome all of us to Heaven. Right now, here on earth, everything doesn’t make sense! Dale J. Durbin, 82, of Palmer, IL, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Dale was born May 29, 1937 in Palmer, IL, the son of Florence R. and Ruby P. (Skinner) Durbin.  He married Rose M. Clevenger on February 9, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville.  Dale worked on a farm, and he loved nothing more than farming and talking about farming. He also enjoyed just being outdoors, and spending his time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Dale is survived by his wife, Rose M. Durbin of Palmer, IL; son, Terry (wife, Sue) Durbin of Westville, IL; daughter, Pam (husband, Tom) Harrison of Dixon, IL; grandchildren, Amanda Spinka of Livermore, CA, Susan Lipa of Covington, IN, Laura Koehn of Cincinnati, OH, Kate Burgoni of Deforest, WI, and Rodger Durbin of Georgetown, IL; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janet (Wilson) Christer, 67, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away unexpectedly at 7:47 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at her residence.
 
Janet was born February 25, 1952 in Hillsboro, IL, the daughter of Robert L. “Rabbit” and Mary Aileen (Denning) Wilson.  She married Michael J. Hough on November 7, 2008 in Missouri, and he preceded her in death on February 11, 2017.

Janet graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1970, where she was very active in 4-H.  She went on to work for the State of Illinois in the office of the EPA for over 30 years.  Following her retirement, Janet worked as a part-time courier for the post office.  She was an entrepreneur at heart, owning many businesses in the Taylorville and Morrisonville area, including Taylorville Liquor, City Limits, The Curve, Dooley’s Corner Tavern, B & B Cab Company, and was a past owner of Morrisonville Lumber.  Janet had a passion for floral design and knitting, making many arrangements for friends and family.  She was also an avid bowler and pool player.  Janet was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Byron A. Peters, 91, of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 12:55 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center. He was born on May 3, 1928 in Taylorville the son of Charles and Letta Grace (Elliott) Peters. He graduated from Taylorville High School and the University of Illinois with a Bachelors Degree in science. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He married Jane Spesard and she preceded him in death on April 27, 1981. He then married Nora DeClerck in 1982. Byron was employed by Continental Grain for 37 years. Byron’s pride and joy was working in his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with the Avion Travel Cade club and the Taylorville Miners Camping Group. He and Nora were associate members of the Midwest RV Club until his health declined.

He is survived by his Wife Nora, daughter: Sharon (Dave) Jasper; sons: Charles, Steven and Jeffery Peters; grandsons: Nate Jasper, Corwin Peters, Dirk Peters and Griffin Peters. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Everett Peters and sister Evelyn Oldham.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Rodney Pettus, 64 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 5:50 a.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on December 9, 1955 in Taylorville, IL the son of Thomas A. and Patricia Jane (Flahart) Pettus. Rodney worked as a security specialist for Wareham’s Security and then later as an Electronic Engineer at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. He graduated from Taylorville High School in the Class of 1974 and he served in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his Mother: Patricia Pettus of Taylorville, Twin Brother: Ronald (Susan) Pettus of Mechanicsburg, IL and Brother: Randy (Dawn) Pettus. He was preceded in death by his Father Thomas A. Pettus, and baby sister Ronda Rochell.

A Private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with military graveside honors.

Marianne Chapman, 75, of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 9:50 p.m. at her home in Taylorville. She was born on June 8, 1944 the daughter of Carl and Nellie (Snider) Reincke. She married Bill Chapman on June 1, 1969 in the South Fork United Methodist Church in Rural Nokomis, IL. Marianne attended Millikin University in Decatur where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She was involved in a music sorority and she worked at the Clinton Fine Arts Center. She and Bill met in Hammond while they were both teaching. They later moved to Edinburg where she taught band, music and choir for 22 years. She directed the school music program for Christmas programs, school plays, and swing choir dinner theater. She was a member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church where she assisted with the music at church, she was the choir director and she played for many funerals and weddings. She also led several cantatas with other churches and she gave many music lessons. She was a past grand marshal for the Edinburg Labor Day Parade. 

She is survived by her Husband Bill Chapman of Taylorville, Nephews: Aaron and Cody Chapman of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty Miller, 90, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 4:35 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Betty was born August 30, 1929 in Stonington, IL, the daughter of Oma G. & Hazel Marie (Perrine) Spillman. She married Leslie Miller on July 5, 1949 in Fairfield, IL, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1999. Betty attended Mt. Auburn High School, and after she and Leslie married, she stayed home to run the household and raise her children.  There was nothing in life more important to her than her children and grandchildren. Betty enjoyed car rides through the country, crafts, and a good game of BINGO.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville, and a past member of the Eagles Club #1425, and the Red Hat Society.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Leslie E. and Oma “Andy” Miller; great grandchildren, Tori Lanter, Brandon Hudson, and Zachery Jacob Reeter; sister, Dorothy Zini and Ona Ruth Hoffman; and brothers, Jay and Russell Spillman.

Fern Hornbuckle, 89, of Taylorville, IL, formerly of Morrilton, AR, passed away at 1:34 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Fern was born on January 20, 1930 in Cleveland, AR, the daughter of Hayes and Bertie (Russell) Scroggins.  She married Robert Hornbuckle on November 29, 1958 in Bee Branch, AR. 

Fern was a member of the Church of Christ in Pana, IL and Morrilton, AR.  She was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, formerly known as Arkansas State Teachers College.  Fern was an avid reader and excellent crossword puzzle player.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Euin (wife, Elosie) Scroggins, Weldon (wife, Eulita) Scroggins, Dewey Crow, and Mildred (husband, Jim) Mahan; and her grandson, Clinton J Hornbuckle.

Doris Eloise Nation, 94 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 2:15 a.m. at Taylorville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. She was born to Walker and Fern Baldis in November of 1924. She was wed to Alvin Leinen until his death in 1967, and they had one son, Richard Alvin Leinen. Doris was married to Earl R. Vangeison from 1969 until his death in 2005. Doris wed Granvel “Spud” Nation in 2009.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Ray and Don Baldis, and Jean Bilyeu; her son Rick; Earl’s son Harry Lee Vangeison, son-in-law Glenn Klein, grandson Sam Vangeison; and, Spud’s son Tom Nation.    

Doris is survived by her husband, Spud Nation, of Taylorville. She is survived by her Leinen family: Rick’s wife, Lanette Leinen and their children Chris (Dee) Elsner, K.C. (Rachel) Leinen, Dustin (Chelsea) Leinen, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Doris is survived by her Vangeison step-family: Debbie (Phil) Svoboda, Roger, Mary (Jim) Daughtery, Sandy Klein, Sharon (Jim) Hill, Linda Vangeison, and Fred (Elaine) Vangeison; along with 16 step-grandchildren, 26 great step-grandchildren, and 10 great-great step-grandchildren.  

Since 1954, Doris Leinen-Vangeison-Nation was known as the “Stanley Lady” in Taylorville and around the region. She met each sales challenge Stanley Home Products posted, being among the top 100 dealers in the United States for many years. Most importantly, she made dear friends at her home parties and at kitchen tables selling Stanley talking about the news of the day and children. She was a consummate cook, baker, gardener, and could freeze or can anything that grew. She once was in nursing school, a square dancer, a Democratic party official, and a snow-bird who traveled to Texas for 25 years each winter. Doris was strong in her faith and is a founding member of Grace Baptist Church of Taylorville.     
 
Doris was blessed to have her long life on Lincoln Trail with three loving husbands. She will be missed and her memory can be honored in lieu of flowers with a donation to a charity of the giver’s choosing. 

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 13 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home, 327 N. Clay Street in Taylorville, Illinois. A family graveside service will be held at a later date with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Kenneth E. Gatton Sr., 89 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 7:05 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on August 14, 1930 in Taylorville, IL the son of Charles and Flossie (Lancaster) Gatton. He married Dorothy Pauline Rohdemann on July 14, 1956 in Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2015. Kenneth retired from Caterpillar in Decatur where he worked as a welder inspector. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. His family considered him a jack of all trades. He was good at woodworking, fixing cars, building vehicles, gardening, he loved to play guitar, sing, and take his wife Dorothy Dancing. When he wasn’t tinkering in his garage, he enjoyed playing bebop with his great-granddaughter Isabella or throwing a beer back at the T-Bird. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville and VFW Post 6408 in Havana, IL.

Milford Francis Brown, 82 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 8:45 p.m. at Life’s Journey Senior Living Center in Taylorville, IL.

He was born on May 12, 1937 in Taylorville, IL the son of Charles A. and Clara (Huffman) Brown. He graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1955 and Eastern Illinois University with a BS in Education. Later he got his masters degree and any kind of math was his subject. Milford started teaching in 1959 starting at Tower Hill, then moving to Canton where he was also a member of the Lions Club and he produced the school plays. He was awarded Teacher of The Year in 1967. From Canton he taught in Bethany and retired in 2000 from Morrisonville School District where he was grade school principal, he taught grade school and high school.

   
Milford never married but was survived by his sisters: Ellen Davis and Marilyn Guthrie Dixon of Taylorville, 9 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews, and 6 great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Martha Greffe, Mildred Garwood, brother: Charles J. Brown, brothers-in-law: Virgil Griffe, Robert Garwood, Robert Davis, Charles Guthrie, Norman Dixon and sister-in-law: Vivian Brown.

Ward K. Thomas, 87 of Rochester, formerly of Edinburg, passed away at 10:05a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in the Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy.  He was born on May 28, 1932 in Danville, the son of Leo Delton and Grace (Ward) Thomas.  He married Sue Beaty on December 7, 1958 in Edinburg.

He was an Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War.  Ward was a long-time coal miner and retired from Peabody Mine #10.  He was a member of the South Fork Church of Christ.  He enjoyed working in the yard and was known as the family handyman, able to build anything from a shelf to his own home.  Ward and his family enjoyed the many summers they spent at the lake with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife: Sue Thomas of Rochester; children: Delton Thomas of Warrensburg, Bart Thomas of Flora, Jo Ellen Davis (Kenneth) of Edinburg, Matthew Thomas (Barbara) of Monticello, and Jill Morman (Kent) of Edinburg; grandchildren: Beau Thomas, Wade Thomas, Rylie Davis, Wyatt Morman, and Delaney Morman; great grandchildren: Jace Sparks, Baylor Thomas, and Ryder Thomas; sister: Mary Ann Osborne (Frank) of Morton; and brother: Don Thomas (Gladys) of Marengo.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Frances Thomas and Bill Thomas.
Mr. Thomas will be cremated and a private family inurnment will be held in the Edinburg Cemetery with Rev. Dave Johnson officiating.

Jet K Brown, 61 of Taylorville, passed away at 8:23p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on July 9, 1958 in Lombard, Illinois. She married Donald E. Brown on September 15, 1990 in Taylorville. Jet previously earned her associate degree in accounting and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation where she worked on web design. She was an avid fan of Mickey Mouse, liked putting puzzles together, and enjoyed spending time outside watching the birds and squirrels or working in her flower garden. More than anything she loved her family, especially her 2 grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of her newest granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband: Donald E. Brown of Taylorville; daughters: Ambre Cherven of St. Louis and Crimson (Joseph Lawrence) of Taylorville; grandson: Granite Stockon; granddaughter: Nikyla Lawrence; brothers: Ronnie Schulmeister (Jacqueline) of Gurnee and Mike Schulmeister of Florida; niece: Jamie Roberts of Cincinnati, Ohio; and great niece: Keely Eads (Raleigh) of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ronald and Marilyn (Pierce) Schulmeister; and siblings Bonnie Roberts, Jimmy Coulson, and Bret Steier.

Cayle “Fuzz” Davis, 67, of Palmer, IL, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at his residence.

Cayle was born May 8, 1952 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Floyd and Marcella (Allen) Davis.  He married Janet Badman on September 19, 1971 in Taylorville, IL.

Cayle graduated from South Fork High School in 1970, and went on to work as a master machinist at Howden Fan Company Springfield for many years.  He later retired from GSI, where he was also a machinist.  Cayle was also a gunsmith in his free time.  He enjoyed catfishing, camping, hunting, throwing horseshoes, and competing in truck pulls.  Most of all, Cayle cherished the time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.  He was a member of the Taylorville Rifle and Pistol Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Sharon Sherman and Sissy Sexton.

Cayle is survived by his wife, Janet Davis of Palmer, IL; daughter, Linda (spouse, Sheila Norris) Davis of Clinton, IL; son, Jed (wife, Sessey Lynch) Davis of Palmer, IL; grandchildren, Kelsie (fiancé, Nathan Mink) Davis of Taylorville, IL, and Levi, Lance, and Lacey Davis of Palmer, IL; siblings, William (wife, Shirley) Davis of Kincaid, IL, Peggy Crabbe of Sandwich, IL, and Becky Malone Davis of Savannah, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charles “Leon” Mahan, 86 of Chatham formerly of Taylorville passed away at 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Sunrise Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Virden, IL. He was born on July 12, 1933 in East St. Louis, IL the son of Otis Mahan and Cleo (Mahon). He married Sylvia Dowdy on February 9, 1952 and then later married Hope Strumpher on November 8, 1973. Leon was a retired Master Sargent for the Illinois State Police, and he was also the Christian County Sheriff from 1986-1990. He was a member of the Leslie-Reddick Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville, Fraternal order of Police Lodge #41, Morrisonville Lodge #681 AF & AM, Mid America Sports Parachute Club and the Illinois Police Association. Leon was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1951-1955.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Siblings: Wayne Mahan, Russ Mahan, Keith Mahan, Danny Mahan and Sister-in-Law Delores Mahan.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Ted Chapman and Bob Kinderman officiating. Burial will be in Fraley Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with military graveside honors.
