Jerry Lee Stout of Assumption

Jerry Lee Stout, 66, of Assumption, IL died at 4:36 am, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his residence.

He was born June 27, 1946 in Mt. Auburn, IL the son of Dallas C. and Helen L. Howard Stout.  He married Viola McDonald in Taylorville, IL.  Mr. Stout was a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are his wife Viola Stout of Assumption. Daughter: Amy Stout of Tacoma, WA; Sons: Jay Brown and Eric Brown of Sherman, IL; Step Son: Gary McDonald of Crawfordsville, IN; Brothers: Dallas Stout of Pawnee, IL, Dale F. Stout of Missouri, James Stout of Pana; Sisters: Minnie Power – Crowder, OK, Iva Bisby of Mechanicsburg, IL, Martha “Martinie” Stout of Pana, and Connie Harlan of Pana, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, twin Brother: Larry Stout, Brother, Fred Stout, and sisters: Helen Beck and Leona O’Dell.

There will be no services of visitation.

Debra C. Patterson, 49, of Taylorville, passed away April 27, 2013 at 9:45 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born February 21, 1964 in Springfield, IL. The Daughter of Jim and Nancy (Singer) Hoehn. She married Jerry Patterson on August 12, 1995 in Springfield, IL. She was a CNA at Auburn Rehabilitation Center in Auburn, IL.She loved her kids and grandkids and loved to ride motor cycles

Nikolas Alaric Frailey of Taylorville

Nikolas Alaric Frailey, Infant son of Raechel Beth Wempen and Derrick Bryan Frailey passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

He is survived by both of his parents, Sisters: Katrina Frailey, Jenna Wempen, Paternal Grandparents: Amy and Harold Frailey, Maternal Grandmother: Gina Richardson, Maternal Grandfather: Alan Wempen, Paternal Great-Grandmother: Louise Stoldt, Maternal Grandmother: Gerealine Hartig. He is preceded in death by his Great-Grandparents: Robert and Elizabeth Wempen, Great-Grandfather: Harvel Haynes; Great-Grandparents: Carl and Ruth Frailey; Great-Grandfather: Emil Stoldt.

James E. Vancil of Taylorville

James E. Vancil, 64, of Taylorville, passed away April 24, 2013 at 6:54 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. He was born November 24, 1948 in Taylorville, IL, the son of James C. and Mildred (Harris) Vancil. He married Linda N. Branch on October 31, 1969 in Taylorville, IL. He was a United States Army veteran serving from December 1965 to November 1968 and a retired coal miner from Freeman Crown Mine #2. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL and The United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; mother, Mildred Vancil of Taylorville, IL; son, Charles J. Vancil of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Barbara (Wade) Downing of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Stephen Vancil, Leighann Fore, James and Jillian Downing; great-granddaughter, Lilith Ann Fore; brother, Thomas Vancil of Taylorville, IL; sisters, Barbara (Arnie) Tobias of Flint, MI.; Rosemary Neville of Taylorville, IL; Caroline (Dan) Ream of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kenneth Larsen of Taylorville

Kenneth Larsen, 86, of Taylorville, passed away April 22, 2013 at 4:20 p.m. at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. He was born July 2, 1926 in Harvey, IL. The Son of Ingolf and Lena (Gelsa) Larson. He married Eveyn Dornhecker in Harvey, IL. He was a machine operator in a factory.

He is survived by hisThree Children; Six Step-Children; Fourteen Grandchildren; Fourteen Great-Grandchildren; One Brother; Three Sisters; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by is Parents, Wife Evelyn Larsen; 1 Brother; and 1 Sister.

There will be no services at this time, burial will be at a later date in Chicago, IL

Anna M. (Coady) Marucco of Taylorville

Anna M. (Coady) Marucco, 88, of Stonington, passed away on April 19, 2013 at 7:20 a.m. at the Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville, IL. She was born November 24, 1924 in Stonington, IL, the daughter of Patrick F. and Mary (Stapleton) Coady.  She married Maggio Marucco on January 25,1974 in Stonington, IL. He preceded her in death. She was a retail clerk for A & P, and Sav-mor. She also worked for the  State of Illinois. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington , IL.  A member of the Holy Trinity Altar Society, and the Stonington Dog Patch Oldies. She was a Life Member and Past President of the Stonington American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Molly (Gherardi) Blakeman and husband, David of Stonington, IL; step-sons, John Marucco and wife, Toni of Taylorville, IL, and Patrick Marucco and wife, Sharon of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Erinne Blakeman of AZ, and Eric Blakeman and wife, Jodi of CO; step-grandchildren, Tony Marucco, J.T. Marucco, Jake Marucco, Charles Marucco, Kori Aldrich, Lydia Marucco and Gia Simmons; great-grandchildren, Madisyn, and Dylan Blakeman of CO; several step-great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Beaty of Stonington, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death her parents, husband, Maggio; sister, Theresa Duni; brother, Patrick V. Coady; step-son, Michael Marucco.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington, IL with Father Mariatas Chatla officiating. James E. Cook of Mt. Auburn

James E. Cook, 64, of Mt. Auburn, passed away April 18, 2013 at 9:25 a.m. at his residence in Mt. Auburn. He was born September 27, 1948 in Aurora, IL. The Son of Wendell and Elouise (Carlson) Cook. He married Ruth Marie Jenner on May 31, 1969 at the Free Methodist Church of Greenville, IL. He was a Teacher at Mt. Auburn for 20 years, Taylorville for 14 years, Rochester Junior High School, and Vision Way Christian School. He received his BA Degree from Greenville College after graduating from Aurora East High School and his masters degree from Sangamon State University (UIS). He was a deacon at Mt. Auburn Church of Christ. He loved to travel with his wife Ruth; he also enjoyed writing Christian poetry, visiting with friends, and playing his accordion. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his Wife: Ruth; Father Wendell Cook of Chicago, IL; Daughter: Angela (James) Wilcox of Barrington Hills, IL; Grandchildren: Barrett and Abigail Wilcox of Barrington Hills, IL; Sister: Jean Cook of Chicago, IL; Brother-in-Law: Eugene Jenner; Sister-in-Law: Dorothy Jenner; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11:00am at Mt. Auburn Church of Christ in Mt. Auburn with Pastor Dan Armstrong officiating assisted by Pastor Mike Smith. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Mt. Auburn. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2:00-5:00pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Diana Gail Dubay of Taylorville

Diana Gail Dubay, 57, of Taylorville, IL died at 3:15 pm Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.

She was born May 21, 1955 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Jesse Willard and Bernice Lois Harden Wicker.  On August 8, 1971 she married Frederick Willard Dubay in Assumption, IL.  Diana was a member of the Taylorville Black Horse Pow-Wow, Eagles Auxiliary, and was a foster parent for Kemmerer Village in Assumption.

Surviving are her husband Fred Dubay of Taylorville; Children: Melissa Denbow and husband James, Tanya G. Dubay, Marshalle “Shelly” Dubay, Alexandrea “Ali” Dubay, and Hailee Dubay all of Taylorville. 6 Grandchildren: Ariel Bottoms, Aspen Bottoms, Alivia Bottoms, Diana Dubay, Freddy Dubay and Savannah Dubay.  Sisters: Chiquita Henn and husband Mickey, Priscilla Neal, and Monica Wicker all of Assumption. Sister-in-law: Janet Wicker of Taylorville.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister: Linda Lowe and 4 Brothers: Charles Wicker, Phil Wicker, Robby Wicker, and Danny Wicker.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Allen R. Sims of Taylorville

Allen R. Sims, 63, of Taylorville, IL, passed away April 16, 2013 at 8:10 a.m. at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born April 4, 1950 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Dallas and Beverly Jo (Waterman) Sims. He married Barbara South on January 4, 1975 in Taylorville. He worked as a machine operator for the Christian County Highway Department. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville. Allen was a man of integrity and character who loved his family and friends dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; mother, Beverly Sims of Taylorville, IL; son, Shane (wife-Yanin) Sims of Chatham, IL; daughters, Leeta Sims, and Heather (husband-Chad) Sutton both of Taylorville, IL; grandchild, Addyson Sims of Chatham, IL; brothers, David (wife-Jayme) Sims of Taylorville, IL, and Myron (wife-Tammy) Sims of Taylorville, IL; sisters, Alice (husband-Rod) Boensel of Taylorville, IL, Jody (husband- Chuck) Campbell of Taylorville, IL, and Myrna (husband- Ron) Seiler of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death byhis grandparents, Buck and Nellie Waterman, and Ola and Omer Sims; father, Dallas Sims; grandchild, Faith (Sims) Sams.

Mary Elizabeth Morgan of Taylorville

Mary Elizabeth Morgan, 93, of Taylorville, IL died at 4:45 pm Friday, April 12, 2013
at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

She was born June 12, 1919 in Palmer, IL the daughter of Joe E. and Lillian Mae
Weber Boyd.  On December 24, 1938 she married Alex W. Morgan in Terre Haute,
Indiana.  Mrs. Morgan had been employed as a telephone operator with Illinois
Consolidated Telephone Company and as a bookkeeper for Dr. J.W. Murphy in
Taylorville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her husband Alex of Taylorville; Son: Richard L. Morgan and wife Nila;
Daughter Mary Frances Morgan, and Daughter-in-law: Kathy Morgan all of Taylorville.
There are 7 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.  She is also survived by a
brother, Joe C. Boyd of Amarillo, Texas and a Sister, Eula Rodden of Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Son, Robert A. Morgan, and
sisters, Lavonne Hunt, Josephine Kohl, and Betty Apple.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in
Taylorville with burial in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be held from
5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville.

Marcella U. Hines Westphal Sullivan of Nokomis

Marcella U. Hines Westphal Sullivan passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Taylorville Care Center.
Born on January 28, 1919, in Nokomis, Illinois, to Thomas E. and Jessie(Randle) Hines..  Marcella was
married to Edgar Westphal on July 3, 1938 in Nokomis and he passed away on August 30, 1961.  She
married J. Roy Sullivan on August 18, 1965, at Nokomis and he passed away on September 13, 2001.
Marcella was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Nokomis for 75 years and was an active 
member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid. 

 She is survived by her children Sharon (Westphal) Stewart of Raymond, Nancy (Westphal) Montgomery of Taylorville, David Sullivan (wife Diane) of Morrisonville, Shirley(Sullivan) Hand of Irving, John Sullivan of Nokomis, Paul Sullivan(wife Ricki) of Nokomis, son-in-law Bob Mullins of Hillsboro; sister Alice Holthaus (husband Norb) of Nokomis, and sister-in-law Ione  Hines of St. Louis: 20 grand children, 44 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Edgar Westphal, husband J. Roy Sullivan, daughter Joyce (Westphal) Mullins, grandson Wade Sullivan, sisters Doris Toberman, Ruth Speiser, and Marylin Chambers, brothers Randle Hines, Clement "Shorty" Hines, Paul Hines and baby brother in infancy.

Visitation from 5 to 7 Monday evening at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, funerals services 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at St. Pau's Lutheran Church with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Lou Verda (Verdi) Cavatorta of Taylorville

Lou Verda (Verdi) Cavatorta, 71, of Taylorville, passed away on April 10, 2013 at 4:08 a.m. at the Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. She was born July 12, 1941 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Darrell and Catheryne (Hoover) Hamell. She married Gary Crites and later to Joseph Cavatorta Jr. She was a Hair Dresser and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church in Taylorville. She loved music and dancing. Lou Verda also loved the Cubs and the Steelers and making people smile.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph (fiancée Jordan Lefever) Cavatorta III of Taylorville, IL, Gregg L. Crites of San Antonio, TX, and Nicholas R. Crites of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Gatlin Crites of Panama City Beach, FL, Zac, Cody, Chase, and Trey Crites all of Taylorville, IL; great-grandchildren, Jordan Crites of Taylorville, IL and Gisele Crites of TX; brothers, Allen (Brenda) Hamell, Terry Hamell, Ricci (Lisa) Hamell and Tim Hamell all of Taylorville, IL; sisters, Joyce Brodien of MI, Maggie Boarman of Nokomis, IL, Beverly (Jim) Sutherland, and Debbie Hamell; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her pet bird Tweety. James Willard Keel of Taylorville

James Willard Keel, 83, of Taylorville, IL died at 3:15 am Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 3, 1929 the son of Willard Claude and Vera Mae Kerns Keel.  On June 8, 1952 he married Earlyne J. Burchfield at Davis Memorial Christian Church. Mr. Keel was a very active member of the Davis Memorial Christian Church and the Men’s Fellowship.  Jim retired from the United States Postal Service with 35 years of service.  He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and was a 1947 graduate of Taylorville High School.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Navy Reserves.  Jim was a quiet and humble man who loved his wife and children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Earlyne Keel of Taylorville; Children: Jaylene Norris of Olivette, MO, David Keel and wife Angela and Dana Montes and husband Carmelo all of Taylorville.  There are 8 Grandchildren: Heather Eusebio and husband Alex of Olivette, MO, Hilary Younker of Clarksville, TN, Christopher Norris of Taylorville, April Mateer and husband Marty of Kincaid and Ryan Keel and wife Lesley and Jordan Keel, Erica Montes, and James Montes  all of Taylorville.  4 Great Grandchildren: Gavin Norris, Owen Mateer, Myles Mateer, and Jakob Eusebio.  Ryan and Lesley Keel are expecting Jim’s 5th great grandchild in July.  Also surviving is a brother, Lyle Keel and wife Sharon of Trinity, FL.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Davis Memorial Christian Church with Rev. Bill Kerns officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home and one hour prior to services in the church on Thursday.

Mary Moyer of Decatur

Mary Moyer, 76, of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday, April 04, 2013 at 1:46 a.m. at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL She was born December 18, 1936 in Pittsburg, TN the daughter of Will and Naomi (Duncan) Linster. She married Donald Moyer on October 15, 1955 in Ottumwa, IA, they later divorced.  She was a retired Home Health Care Provider. 

She is survived by her sons, Jerry Moyer of Decatur, IL,Mark (Brittany) Moyer of Farmersville, IL, and Steve (Tina) Moyer of Decatur, IL; daughter, Sherry (Steve) Clayton of Stonington, IL; sixteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; sister,  Virginia George of Memphis, TN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Donald; son , Lyle, four sisters and two brothers.

Cremation rites will be accorded and upon her wishes there will not be any services. Scattering of ashes will be at a later date.

Dorothy Opal Copenbarger of Mt. Auburn

Dorothy Opal Copenbarger, 75, of Mt. Auburn, passed away April 4, 2013 at 8:05 a.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born December 7, 1937 in Mt. Auburn, IL. The Daughter of Robert Lee and Arena Temperance McCoy Copenbarger. She was a homemaker and a member of Berea Christian Church in Mt. Auburn, IL and Berea Booster Club.Dorothy spent her lifetime living in Mt. Auburn, IL and was very loyal to her church.

She is survived by her Brothers: Marvin (Shirley) Copenbarger of Mt. Auburn, IL; Dale (Erma) Copenbarger of Mt. Auburn, IL; Sister: Verna (Clem) Diesen of Effingham, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Bertha Barker of Taylorville

Bertha Barker, 100, of Taylorville, passed away on April 1, 2013 at 3:58 a.m. at the Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville, IL. She was born October 10, 1912 in Shelby County, IL, the daughter of John and Bessie (Riley) Stoneburner. She married William S. Barker in 1934 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death in 1970. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville and a member in the Arcana Chapter #493 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was very active in the PTA when her children were in school. She worked for Meals on Wheels for many years.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. Wendell (Martina) Musser M.D. of Durham, NC and David (Sur) Barker of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Susan (William) Hauser of Ellisville, MO; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Christen of Alton, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Sutton Memorial Home.

Cinda S. Coss of Nokomis

Cinda S. Coss, 61, of Nokomis, IL died at 6:15 am, Monday, April 1, 2013 at her residence.

She was born May 20, 1951 in Taylorville, the daughter of William and Eileen Behl Tex.  On December 6, 1980 she married Beuford Lee Coss at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville. Cinda was a member of the Witt United Methodist Church. She was a secretary at PC Consultants in Nokomis and owned and operated B & C Kennel of Nokomis for 20 years.  She loved her husband and son, and all of her beloved dogs throughout the years.

Surviving are her husband Beuford Coss of Nokomis, Son: Brian Coss and wife Jackie of Taylorville, Parents, Bill & Eileen Tex of Taylorville, Brother: Bill Tex and wife Kay of Springfield; Nieces: Julie Simmons and family, and Debbie Bretz and family all of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Private family memorial services will be held with Pastor Steve Switzer officiating.  McClure Funeral Home is in charge arrangements.

Charles W. Jack Harris of Belleville

Charles W. “Jack” Harris, 88, of Belleville, IL formerly of Taylorville, passed away March 29, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. in Edwardsville, IL. He was born June 14, 1924 in Brazil, IN, the son of Thomas and Nola (Pullen) Harris. He married Zella Vivian Loveless on September 17, 1953 in Princeton, IN. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2011. He was a retired truck driver for Ashland Oil Co. He was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he received two Purple Hearts. He also had served his community as a Scout Leader for many years. He enjoyed camping at the lake with his wife Zella.

She is survived by his son, Jack (Peggy) Harris of Belleville, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Ann LeComte; several nieces, and nephews.

Memorial to: Taylorville Christian Church, 1124 N. Webster St., Taylorville, IL

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville. The body will lay in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Ken Manning will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Nellie Marie Carroll of Nokomis

Nellie Marie Carroll, 78, of Nokomis, IL, passed away March 30, 2013 at 9:52 a.m. in Springfield, IL. She was born September 27, 1934 in Deerlake, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The daughter of John and Grace (Nichols) Oke. She married Robert J Carroll on June 11, 1955 in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. She was a retired homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, John of Nokomis, IL; son, Robert Ray (Connie) Carroll of Nokomis, IL; daughters, Ina (Frank) Conrad of Niagara Falls, and Lucille (Dan) Wright of Nokomis, IL; eight grandchildren, and Two great-great-grandchildren; thirteen brothers and sisters including Ronnie (Connie) Oke of Nokomis. She was preceded by her parents.
