Jerry L. Dobyns Sr.

 

 

Jerry L. Dobyns, Sr., 73, of Taylorville, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at his residence.

 

Jerry was born July 10, 1944 in Taylorville, the son of Thomas and Ailine (Mammen) Dobyns. He married JoAnne Austin on June 21, 1971 in Taylorville. Jerry would retire from Peabody Coal Mine #10, after over twenty-five years of service. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on cars and boats.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bart Rickman; brother, Thomas Dobyns; and sisters, Rochelle Melzer, Sheila Keller, Betty Jackson, and Vivian Poorman.

 

Jerry is survived by his wife, JoAnne Dobyns of Taylorville; children, Rhonda (husband, Rick) Ondrey, Rex (wife, Theresa) Rickman, Jerry Dobyns, Jr., Brett Rickman, and Tricia Seaman all of Taylorville; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; siblings, Terry (wife, Tracy) Dobyns of Missouri, Janice (husband, Terry) Sexton of Taylorville, and Helen Sheedy of Palmer; and several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.

Dean H. Rothrock

Dean H. Rothrock, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.

 

Dean was born February 23, 1925, in Stewardson, the son of Harold and Hazel (Fritz) Rothrock. He and Doris Archey were united in marriage on September 24, 1950 in Shelbyville.

 

Dean was a United States Navy veteran of WWII, played professional baseball for two years in the Cleveland Indians organization and was retired from the Illinois State Parks. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Shelbyville Lions Club and Gideons International. He was an avid Cubs fan and regretted not signing with the Cubs during his playing days. He was ecstatic when the Cubs won the World Series. He enjoyed coaching little league and was an avid supporter of all area school athletics.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris of Shelbyville; two sons, Mark (Susan) Rothrock and Greg (Audrey) Rothrock, all of Shelbyville; daughter, Lori (Tony Price) Rothrock of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Heather, Emily, Brett and Colby; great-granddaughter, Xandria and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Dan; brothers, Dwight and Darrell Rothrock and sister, Dolores West.

 

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville with Reverend Tim Yankee officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Helen Fiaoni

 

 

Helen Fiaoni, 87, of Taylorville, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at her residence.

 

Helen was born Octoberber 26, 1927 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Harold and Mildred (Williams) Locke. She married Angelo Fiaoni on September 4, 1948 in Taylorville. They were happily married for 68 years. Angelo preceded her in death, June 8, 2017.

 

Helen was a graduate of Taylorville High School. She owned and operated Helen’s Antiques for many years. Helen was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville, and volunteered much of her time to the local food pantry. Helen had a passion for antiques, and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband.

 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rick Fiaoni; and her brother, Roger Locke.

 

Helen is survived by her daughter, Marlene (partner, Bill Corbell) Fiaoni Ladley of Taylorville; grandchildren, Jessica (husband, Greg) Ladley Greenwood of Springfield, Kristina Lindsey of Taylorville, Sara Ladley of St. Louis, MO, and Ben (wife, Sandra) Ladley of Herrin; great grandchildren, Preston Lindsey, Jaxon, Emma, and Cody Greenwood, and Jacob and Julian Ladley; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Bob Puckett

 

Jerry Bob Puckett, 80, of Stonington passed away at 4:50p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 4, 1936 in Pecos, Texas, the son of Lee and Yvonne (Williams) Puckett. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955, serving in the Korean and Vietnam War and proudly served his country for many years. He retired as a Naval Air Craft Mechanic, Petty Officer 1st Class, and then went on to work at the VA Medical Center in Marlin, Texas as an Environmental Engineer. Jerry later worked for several years at Walmart in Taylorville. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and life member of the VFW in Taylorville. Jerry was known as a pool shark, avid bowler, and could cut a rug with the best of them. Jerry was a loving, caring, and devoted dad to his kids.

He is survived by his 4 children: Beth (Scott) Kuntzman of Stonington, Michael (Tonya) Chatterton of Rogersville, Missouri, Luke Puckett Sr. of Stonington, and Teri (Randy) Tangman of Taylorville; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and niece: Ramona Puckett of Kosse, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; dad: MB Reneau; the love of his life: Geraldine Puckett; son: Jeffery Allen Puckett; grandson: James Chatterton; nephew: Jerry MB Puckett; and siblings: CD Reneau, Sam Reneau, Maudine Reneau, and Floyd Lee Puckett.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Tim & Becky Lembke officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11:30a.m. Tuesday at the Funeral home. Inurnment with Veteran’s Honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton. Martha Lorene Diel

Martha Lorene Diel, 76 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 12:45 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on April 30, 1941 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of James D. and Claudia (Knowles) Murphy. She retired from Sangamon Paper Company and she also worked at Jubelts. Martha was an avid collector of Jewelry and Light houses.

Surviving are her Nieces: Beverly Walker of Taylorville, IL; Denise (Randy) Gentry of Decatur, IL; Great Nephews: Edward (Elizabeth) Walker of Mt. Vernon, TX; James Daniel Murphy of Taylorville, IL; Great Nieces: Sarah (Nick) Werries of Bluffs, IL; Clair Gentry of Decatur, IL; Two great-great nephews and Sister-in-Law: Barb Duncan of Taylorville, IL. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Brother: Donald Murphy.

Evelena May Brotherton

 

Evelena May Brotherton, 84, of Taylorville, passed away at 2:33 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

 

Evelena was born October 10, 1932 in Noble, IL, the daughter of Harold Henry and Della May (Stanley) Runyon. She married David Lee Brotherton on July 20, 1956 in Mattoon, IL. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2008.

 

Evelena graduated from Noble High School, and then continued her education by earning an associate’s degree from business college in Mattoon, IL. She spent twenty-five years as the administrative assistant to the superintendent of Taylorville schools. She would retire to be a full-time grandmother. Evelena was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville. There was nothing in the world that she loved more than being a mom and grandma.

 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Delbert and Lenard Runyon; and sisters, Alice Runyon and Bonnie McKnight.

Charles M. Easley

Charles M. Easley, 89, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017 at Meadow Manner Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, Illinois. He was born on October 2, 1927 near Pawnee, Illinois to the late Frank and Ruth (Vancil) Easley. He is survived by his daughter, Gloria (Robert) Duff of Jasper Alabama; grandsons, Gerald Jr. and Timothy and his brother Homer (Pauline) Easley of Aurora, Illinois. He was proceeded in death by his wife Wanda (Masters) Jackson, son Paul and daughter Rachel and sisters Louise (Bill) Ham and Mary (Ralph) True.

 

Charles was a WWII veteran, having joined the army at age 17. Just before he was to be shipped to the battle front congress passed a law that no one under 18 could serve in the war zone so he finished his tour of duty in Fort Knox, Kentucky. After discharge he returned to Morrisonville, Illinois and joined his father building many farm and commercial buildings and houses in Morrisonville and the surrounding area. He spent the rest of his career in the construction field in New Albany, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio before retiring to Morrisonville. He was an active member of the Taylorville Southern Baptist Church spending many hours maintaining the church building as well as serving on the board.

 

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 9:30- 11:00 AM with a funeral service following, starting at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Richard L. McKirahan officiating. Burial will follow at the Mound Chapel Cemetery, Owaneco, Illinois with military graveside honors.

John Richard Childress

John Richard Childress, 85 of Jacksonville passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, IL. He was born on June 22, 1932 in Chicago, IL the Son of John and Valentina (Madden) Childress.

Surviving are his brothers: William Childress of Rockford, IL, Stephen Courtney of Taylorville, IL; Sisters: Linda Tomei of Taylorville, IL, Marina Larzo of Manahawkin, NJ; one niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Sister: Shirley Benedict.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg, IL with pastor Becky Lembke officiating.

Paula Golitko

Paula Golitko, 60, of Nokomis, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 1:14 a.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital in Hillsboro. She was born on December 3, 1956 in Athens, AL. The Daughter of William and Peggy (Beckham) Black. She married John Golitko on October 23, 1976 in Nokomis. She worked at Nokomis Savings Bank as a teller, Save More Pharmacy in Nokomis and recently at Golitko Service in Nokomis. Paula was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis and Fillmore Sportsman’s Club and the NRA.

Dana Lane

Dana Lane, 84 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 1:56 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on February 6, 1933 in Owaneco, IL the Son of Leslie and Pearl (Hertel) Lane. He married Donna Burke on August 27, 1960 in Taylorville, IL. He worked as a Coal Miner at Peabody Mine #10 and later was an employee at Bob Ridings in Taylorville. Dana was an avid car enthusiast, loved to show his corvette and was an avid sports fan.

Surviving are his Wife: Donna of Taylorville, IL; Sons: Patrick Lane, Aaron (Nicole) Lane and Eric (Tracy) Lane; Grandchildren: Paige, Chloe, Emma, Mia and Bree Lane; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sisters: Susan Kendle and Bernadine Prasun; Brother: Bob Lane.

It was Dana’s wishes to be cremated. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville and there will be a private family graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with military graveside honors at a later date.

Amy Nell Waterman Snider

 

Amy Nell Waterman Snider, 92 of Madisonville, KY formerly of Taylorville, IL passed away, Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Baptist Health in Madisonville.

 

She was  born January 31st, 1925 in Taylorville, IL to the late Charles Burl Waterman and Maude Miller Waterman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Snider; son, Charles R. (Rick) Snider, Jr.; brothers, William Waterman and Robert (Wilma Jean) Waterman; and sister, Florence Waterman Smith.

 

Mrs. Snider was a member of Taylorville Christian Church and attended the Hope Alive Service at Madisonville First United Methodist Church. On Thursdays, she enjoyed Girls' Day Out with her 5 generations. After getting her hair done, a restaurant was selected and we all (as many were able) went out for dinner and hours of conversation. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading new recipes (hated to cook!) and enjoyed watching her hummers (hummingbirds). She loved her family most.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Linnell Snider Love Sorrells of Madisonville, KY; and daughter-in-law, Susan Jacobs Snider of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren, Shannon (Walter) Taylor of Madisonville, Charles R. Sharon Potsick

Sharon Potsick, 81, of Moweaqua passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 2:18 a.m. at Moweaqua Rehab and Health Care Center in Moweaqua. She was born on November 16, 1935 in Decatur, IL the Daughter of Trall (Jane) Carder and Dorothea (Jerome) Debrun Sr. She married Mike Potsick on January 10, 1959 in St, Mary’s Catholic Church in Assumption, IL. She worked in the receiving department at Sattley’s, Inc, in Decatur, IL, and later worked as an administrative assistant at GSI in Assumption, IL. Sharon was a member of Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Moweaqua where she was also involved in the Altar and Rosary Society.

Joseph "Joe" Szachnitowski

 

Joseph “Joe” Szachnitowski, 38, of Mattoon, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

 

Visitation will be Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 12 noon until 3:00 p.m. at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Stewardson Cemetery in Stewardson. Memorials may be made to the Cole’s County Animal Shelter.

 

Joe was born October 2, 1978, in Mattoon, the son of Joseph Szachnitowski and Karen Manship. He was a graduate of Mattoon High School and worked at Libman Co. in Arcola. Joe enjoyed playing guitar, drums and was in the Slough Band in Mattoon. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and loved spending time with his family.

 

Surviving are his parents, Joseph Szachnitowski of Marseilles and Karen Katz of Mattoon; brother, Cody Petrie of Mattoon; two nieces, Aaliyah and Maggie; special dog Venom and cat Squeek and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Jim and Helen Manship and Bill and Kathleen Szachnitowski and his childhood friend Tyler Jones.

Morna "Marlene" Rozene

 

Morna “Marlene” Rozene, 84, of Effingham, formerly of Sullivan and Centralia, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

 

Marlene was born October 1, 1932, in Shelby County, the daughter of Thomas and Viola (Blake) McLaughlin. She married Dean Rozene and he preceded her in death in November 1980. Through the years, she waitressed and worked at World Color Press in Effingham and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia.

 

Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson followed by graveside services at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Cemetery in Trowbridge, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.

 

Marlene is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jerry) Fear of Centralia; son, Tom (Kim) Jewell of Strasburg; five grandchildren: Joseph (Rachel) Fear of St. Paul, MN, Justin (Laura) Fear of Rockville, MD, Brooke Jewell of Effingham, Ciara Jewell of Effingham, Daniel (Joni) Hossler of Crystal Lake; four great-grandchildren: Margaret, Joshua, Eli and Lennon; four sisters: Beverly (Dwight) Storm of Stewardson, Diana Storm of Effingham, Vicky (Dwight) Braden of Strasburg and Michelle (Greg) Spannagel of Shelbyville and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; brother, Harlan McLaughlin and sister, Joyce Crockett.
