Benjamin E. Mansfield Sr. of Casey

Benjamin E. Mansfield Sr. 55, of Casey, IL, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:40 a.m. at his residence in Casey. He was born January 17, 1959 in Chicago, IL. The son of Benjamin F. and Janet (Ryan) Mansfield. Mr. Mansfield was a Millwright. He will be missed by his loving family and his best friend Diesel.

He is survived by his sons: Benjamin E. (Tara) Mansfield Jr., Romie Mansfield and Tylee Mansfield both of Gillespie, IL; daughters: Ashley (Tony) Mansfield and Tanya (William) Mansfield both of Casey, IL, Madelyn Mansfield of Gillespie, IL; grandchildren: Shiloh Roach, Lainey Thomas and Kolin Matthews all of Casey, IL, Kailie Bradburn and Eli Bradburn both of Farmersville, IL; sister, Kim Phares of Taylorville, IL; nieces and nephews: Joe Phares, Heather Mundhenke and several others. He was preceded in passing by his parents: Benjamin F. and Janet (Ryan) Mansfield and brother, John Eldon Mansfield.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Jason Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at Ponting Cemetery, Stonington, IL.

Ralph Willison Jr. of Taylorville

Ralph Willison Jr. 88, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 6:55 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.  He was born September 23, 1925 in Georgetown, IL. The son of Ralph and Melissa (Howard) Willison. He married Effie M. Kershaw on January 26, 1947 in Taylorville, IL.  Mr. Willison was a retired Coal Miner and worked at Georgia Pacific Paper Mill. Mr. Willison was an avid fan of all sports, especially baseball and his beloved Cubs. He excelled in football, baseball and basketball in his high school years. He was inducted into the Taylorville High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the celebrated 1944 Basketball Team. He coached Pony and Little League teams for several seasons, including All-Star teams.

He is survived by his wife, Effie, sons: James (Dawn) Willison and Jack (Jacque) Willison both of Taylorville, IL; granddaughter, Amanda Willison of Marion, IL; great-granddaughter, Ellah Willison of Marion, IL; step-grandchildren: Zack Beaty of Sandwich, IL and Kelsey Beaty of Taylorville, IL; step-great-grandson, Cooper Beaty of Sandwich, IL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents, two sisters: Helen Brown and Jessie Sexton.  

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March  5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.

Margaret Rexroad of Taylorville

Margaret Rexroad 104, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on February 3, 1910 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Alvah and Katie (Norris) Houk. She married Charlie E. Rexroad in the First Christian Church parsonage in Shelbyville, IL; He preceded her in passing on January 26, 1985. Mrs. Rexroad worked in many upscale department stores selling ladies accessories, handbags, gloves, jewelry and wigs. She and her husband, Charlie lived in Decatur, IL and later were transferred to Lexington, KY with Signal Depot. They enjoyed weekend trips to all the new malls in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. They retired back to Taylorville to be with their family. She was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church. Margaret will be remembered for her memory, she never forgot any of her family’s birthdays, anniversaries or graduations. She would always send cards and gifts.

She is survived by her nephews: Harold (Wanda) Houk of Mt. Auburn, Bob (Shirley) Sloan of Edinburg, IL, Bill (Debbie) Sloan, Larry (Martha) Fowler both of Taylorville, IL and Warren (Marcielle) Buzzard of Shelbina, MO; nieces: Peggy Fowler Logue of Blue Mound, IL, Carol (Bobby) Bell of Bonita Springs, FL and Marcia (Allen) Monier of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law, Ruby Houk of Springfield, IL; several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by his parents, husband; brothers: Roy Houk, Fred Houk, Alvah “Pete” Houk Jr.; sisters: Grace Fowler Cole, Helen Sloan Smith and Elizabeth “Betty” Buzzard; nephew, Harry “BoBo” Logue; niece, Beth Ann Buzzard; great niece, Nicole Rae Stade.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dick Wamsley officiating. Burial will be at Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg, IL.

Louis A. Golitko of Nokomis

Louis A. Golitko 93, of Nokomis, IL passed away at 3:35 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Nokomis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Nokomis, IL. He was born on September 17, 1920 in Nokomis, IL, the son of Louis and Mary (Fabula) Golitko. He married Grace Satterthwaite on August 17, 1950 in Baltimore,, MD. She preceded her in passing on September 5, 2003. Mr. Golitko was a retired Administrator for Social Security. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.

He is survived by sons: Edward Paul Golitko of Chicago, IL, Raymond Golitko of Houston, TX, and David (Judy) Golitko of LaGrange Park, IL; grandchildren: Elizabeth Golitko and James (Michelle) Golitko. He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife, brother, Edward Paul Golitko

Elva Elizabeth Lizzie Cravens of Taylorville

Elva Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cravens, 92, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 2:45 a.m. Monday, on February 17, 2014 at Heritage Health in Pana, IL.

She was born on August 5, 1921 in Pickett County, TN; the daughter of Wesley and Bertha (Rigney) Dowdy. She married Varner Cravens on January 11, 1939 in Albany, KY; He preceded her in passing. She had worked for Ben Franklin, Woolworth’s and was a Customer Greeter at Wal-Mart.

She is survived by son, Gary Cravens of Springfield, IL; daughter, Carolyn “Carol” (David) Maxwell of Taylorville, IL; daughter-in-law, Betty Cravens of Athens, IL; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sisters: Wanda Lowis and Nellie (Edward) Fleming both of Palmer, IL, Opal Lowis and Deanna (Ronald) Palaschak both of Springfield, IL ; sister-in-law, Virginia Dowdy of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband; son, Danny Cravens; brothers, Roy and Windell Ray Dowdy; sisters, Belvie Hogge and Sylvia Mahan. .

Visitation will be held Monday, February 24, from 10:00 until 12::00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home. Rev. Linda Vonck will officiate the services. Burial will be at Ponting Cemetery in Stonington, IL.

Annabelle Norville of Taylorville

Annabelle Norville, 92, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:40 am Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

She was born July 1, 1921 in Christian County the daughter of James W. and Gertrude Durbin Lamb.  On April 20, 1940 she married John S. Norville in Kincaid.  He preceded her in death on April 15, 1983.
Mrs. Norville was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Eagles Auxiliary. Annabelle enjoyed playing Bingo and cards.

Surviving are her sons: J. J. Norville and wife Connie of Mechanicsburg and Terry Norville and wife Lori of Stonington.  4 Grandchildren: Julie Greene and husband David of St. Louis, MO, J.T. Norville and wife Maria of St. Charles, MO, Travis Norville and Trent Norville both of Stonington.  Great Grandchildren: Mason Greene, Monte Greene, Grace Norville, Lucy Norville, and Olive Norville. 2 Brothers: John Lamb of Taylorville and Edward Lamb of Texas.  There are several Nieces and Nephews.   She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Brother: Ray Lamb, and Sisters: Mary Louise Younker and Cecelia Mae Morris.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until time of services in the Church on Friday.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Robert Eugene Bob Smith of Palmer

Robert Eugene “Bob” Smith, 75, of Palmer, passed away on February 15, 2014 at 1:25 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital Taylorville, IL. He was born on August 8, 1938 in Palmer, IL; the son Lloyd and Bernadine (Durbin) Smith. He married Marcia “Lou” Ballard at the Free Methodist Church in Taylorville, IL on December 6, 1958. He retired from the Palmer Elevator after 44 yrs. of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville. Bob served his country in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis where he spent 19 months of the crisis in Germany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing mowing, cooking and working in the garden. He loved being outdoors and going to church on Sunday. He also enjoyed watching the Illini and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia “Lou” Smith of Palmer, IL. Although he and Lou had no children of their own, he had a hand in raising many. Grandchildren: Seth, Gabby and Sophia Foster of Palmer, IL; brother, Vernon (Sherrie) Smith of Pana, IL; sisters: Delores Sledge of Wonder Lake, IL, Theresa Hughes, Cinda Don) Hayes , Sharon (Ben) Skinner all of Palmer, IL, Karen (Roger) Dorr of Owaneco, IL, Kay Brewer and Mary Ann (Ken) Buchanan both of Taylorville, IL, and Billene (Danny) Lynch of FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Virginia Dowdy of Taylorville, IL; sisters-in-law: Barbara Stafford of Eureka, IL, Marlene Dunn of Blue Mound, IL, Patricia Huddleston of Palmer, IL and Marie Crowder of Taylorville, IL; brother-in-law, David (Marcella) Ballard of Tovey, IL. He was preceded in passing by his parents, brothers: Richard and Ronald; niece, Laura “Missy” Huddleston.

Doris J. Yonker of Taylorville

Doris J. Yonker 86, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 11:53 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at her residence. She was born on August 21, 1927 in Stonington, IL, the daughter of Frank and Lola (Wright) Davis. She married Charles “Bob” Yonker on December 17, 1945 in Kokomo, IN. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2004. Mrs. Yonker was a retired bookkeeper from Horace Mann and other local businesses. She was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church and Christian County Quilters Guild. She was a quilter and a golfer after retirement and loved roses and focused on her family. Survived by son, Joseph E. (Vicki) Yonker of Edinburg, IL; daughter, Sheila Kaye of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren: Stephanie Funderburk of Morrisonville, IL Jennifer Yonker of Edinburg, IL and Ami Bowen of St. Petersburg, FL; two great grandchildren: Carley and Tessa Funderburk; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: LeRoy and Robert Davis; grandson, Phillip Smith, and granddaughter, Kimberly Smith. Donna Lou (Thacker) Watkins, 76, of Taylorville, IL formerly of Waggoner, IL, passed away on February 14, 2014 at 11:58 a.m. at her residence in Taylorville. She was born on July 28,, 1937 in Shelby County, IL; the daughter of Clyde Graham and Myrtle Elizabeth (McKee) Thacker. She married John Larkin Watkins in Springfield, TN on September 15, 1956. He preceded her in passing on April 6, 1994. She retired as an Under writer for Horace Mann Insurance. She also worked 11 years for Victorious Ministry Though Christ as US Central Coordinator and was on staff at Loving Arms Crisis Center. She was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville.

 

She is survived by her sons: Tony Lynn (Kim) Watkins of Springfield, IL and Billy Lee Watkins of Morrisonville, IL; daughters: Linda Lorraine Ash of Wentzville, MO, and Joyce LeJean Bandy companion Mark Clevenger of Raymond, IL; daughter-in-law, Amy Watkins of Rushville, IL; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Robert (Margaret) Thacker of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters: Shirley (Johnny) Young of Taylorville, IL, Lorrie Nation of Taylorville, IL and Sandra (Jim) Gibson of Taylorville, IL; sister-in-law, Cleo Thacker of Taylorville, IL. Harry Red McKinnie of Morrisonville

Harry “Red” McKinnie, 81 of Morrisonville passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 3:25 PM at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born on September 19, 1932 at Morrisonville the son of John W. and Ethel (Jarrett) McKinnie. He married Virginia L. Todt on May 19, 1955 at Taylorville; she preceded him in death on July 27, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Cecil, William, Robert and Glenn McKinnie; Sisters, Marjorie Blount and Pearl Lewis.

Harry was co-owner of McKinnie Trucking and Feed for many years and worked for Louis Marsch, Inc. from 1969-2008 before his retirement. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan. He had a passion for raising livestock and very much loved his family. He was member of First Presbyterian Church and Leslie Reddick American Legion Post 721 both in Morrisonville. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

Survivors include: Son, Doug (wife, Marcia) McKinnie of Taylorville, IL; Daughters, Donna Kemmerling (companion, Mike) and Becky Painter both of Morrisonville, IL and Brenda Clarke (life partner, Lori) of Greenville, IL; 9 Grandchildren, Byron (Misty) Painter, Bridgett Painter, Beau (Andrea) Painter, Tharin (Alicia) Clarke, Justin (Cara) McKinnie, Jordan (Chelsea) McKinnie, Mallory (Jarred) Rahar, Natasha (Gregory) Russell and Nathan Kemmerling; 7 Great Grandchildren; Brother, Ray (wife, Judy) McKinnie of Morrisonville, IL; Sister, Jean (husband, Ray) Montgomery of Morrisonville, IL; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville with Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville.

Donald Ray Minnis of Palmer

Donald Ray Minnis, 78 of Palmer passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 11:10 AM at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born on July 15, 1935 at Morrisonville the son of Lester Earl and Sylvia (Conlon) Minnis. He was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Lavora, Merle and Delmar Minnis; Sisters, Melba Storer and Temple Stieren.

Donald  worked as a machinist at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending auctions. He trained bird dogs and was a gun dealer, operating a gun shop from his home. He was a member of the National American Legion, National Rifle Association and Sheriff’s Association. He was a veteran of the US Army.

Survivors; Daughters, Dr. Denise Minnis of Hillsboro, IL and Sylvia Minnis of Franksville, WI; Son, Kevin Minnis of Morrisonville, IL; 5 Grandchildren, Faris, William, Alanna, Elaan and Clayton; Sisters, Marcella McBride of Joplin, MO and Ruth Wallace of Stanford, IL; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Harvel Cemetery, Harvel. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville.

Daniel W. Keene of Taylorville

Daniel W. Keene, 83, of Taylorville, IL died at 4:02 am Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home.

He was born May 8, 1930 in Chillicothe, IL the son of Thomas (Step-father Edward) and Viola Boylan Keene. On August 31, 1957 he married Patsy Reifsteck in Chillicothe. Dan graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1948. He served our country and was a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He attended Bradley University for 1 year and attended El Camero Junior College in California. Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville where he was active in the Knights of Columbus with the Tootsie Roll drive and active supporting daily devotions. He was a member of the Taylorville Optimist Club, Taylorville Moose Lodge, American Legion and V.F.W. Post 4999. He was a member of the Stonington Masonic Lodge and the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge, member of the Ansar Shrine Club, and a member of the Christian County Shrine Club. He was an avid 3-wheeler with the Shrine and participated in 15-20 parades as well as sellinhg ads for the Shriners Circus each year. Dan worked itne the building trades early in his work tenure. He worked for R.V. Evans as a salesman and retired after 25 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Patsy of Taylorville; Daughters: Mitzi Mills and husband Doug of New Richmond, WI, Mindy Larimore and husband John of Edinburg; Son Mike Keene and wife Kay of Green Bay, WI; Grandchildren: Danielle Larimore and boyfriend Clint, Laura Robinson and husband Chad, Lindsay Larimore and fiancée Chris, Phillip Mills, Sean Keene, and Matt Keene; Step-Grandchildren: Brendon Larimore, Mario Figueroa; Great Grandchildren: Irelyn Ewing and Landyn Ewing. There are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Thomas Keene, and sisters: Pat Pence, Eleanor Rohse and Mary Linda Oder.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 18 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 1216 N. 6th St., Chillicothe, IL 61523. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service in the Church on Tuesday.

Harold W. Hartley, 93, of Taylorville, passed away on February 9, 2014 at 6:16 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital Taylorville, IL. He was born on January 21, 1921 in Taylorville, IL; the son Ernest and Mary Ann (Schwab) Hartley. He married Mary Ann Enlow on January 19, 1986 at the Church Of God in Kincaid, IL. Mr. Hartley retired from Borg Warner in Decatur, IL in 1986. He also worked security at different businesses. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL, V.F. W. #4495 in Taylorville, IL and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club #1425 in Taylorville, IL. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hartley of Taylorville, IL, daughters: Diana (Bob) Smith of Niles, OH, Mary Ann Brown of Las Vegas, NV and Barb (Lonnie) Caulk of Springfield, IL; son, Harold F. Hartley of Taylorville, IL; step-daughter, Rebecca Mollet of Taylorville, IL; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, son-in- law, two grandsons and four sisters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Graveside Services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014; Father Dan Willenborg will officiate. Donald Joseph “Donny” Scherer, 29, of Taylorville, IL died Friday, February 7, 2014 in Springfield.

He was born February 2, 1985 in Taylorville, IL. On May 24, 2003 he married Holly Grafton in Taylorville. Donnie was employed as a Respiratory Therapist at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He enjoyed being active, spending time outdoors fishing, camping, boating, yard work, and being with his family.

Surviving are his wife: Holly of Taylorville; 3 children: Meah Marie Scherer, Macy Faye Scherer, and Shea Patrick Scherer. His parents: Bobby and Lorrie Foor of Taylorville; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Patrick and Wendy Grafton of Taylorville; Brother: Phillip Foor and wife Megan of Decatur and Sister: Jeanette Scherer. Grandparents: Richard and Grace Meadows of Kincaid and Bart and Roe Nan Grafton of Springfield. There are 2 Nieces and 4 Nephews surviving. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, February 13, 2014 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Donald House officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. There will be a meal for family and friends at Taylorville Memorial Hospital following the services on Thursday.

Patrick K. Rodden of Kincaid

Mr. Patrick K. Rodden, 56, of Kincaid, IL passed away at 3:50 am Saturday February 8, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

He was born March 1, 1957 in Taylorville, IL the son of Joseph E. and Leora F. (Farnam) Rodden.  Pat married Lois J. Hyslope on August 23, 1980 in Vandalia, IL.

Mr. Rodden was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Kincaid, IL.  He graduated from Kincaid High School in 1975 and worked for many years as the General Manager at Cardinal Products, Kincaid, IL.  Pat was: a former President of the Kincaid Jaycees, member of the Knights of Columbus Kincaid and a former referee and umpire for I.H.S.A.  He was a huge Notre Dame fan and a big Packers, White Sox, Black Hawks and Celtics fan.  Mr. Rodden loved bowling and spending time with his grandbabies.

Surviving are his wife Lois of Kincaid, IL 2 sons Jimmy (wife Jackie) Dean and Timothy Dean all of Taylorville, IL a daughter Lori (Rick Williamson) Miller of Kincaid, IL 6 grandchildren Alicia Dean of Taylorville, IL Scott Dean of Kincaid, IL Joanna Specht of Rock Island, IL Sydne Dean of Waverly, IL Alexis Miller and Braxton Williamson both of Kincaid, IL 1 great grandchild Boston Donovan of Taylorville, IL a brother Daniel (wife Debbi) Rodden of Buffalo, IL along with several nieces and nephews.

His parents, 1 brother Michael Rodden and a sister Dian Rodden preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 13, 2014 in St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Kincaid, IL.  Fr. Marcella L. German of Springfield

Mrs. Marcella L. German, 92, of Kincaid, IL passed away at 7:24 pm Friday, February 7, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. 

She was born in Taylorville, IL February 13, 1921 the daughter of Everett and Lillian (McKinney) Curvey.  Marcella married Glen T. German May 22, 1943 in Morrisonville, IL.  He preceded her in death May 12, 1986.

Mrs. German was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.  She graduated from Brown’s Business College.  Marcella had worked for the Canary Food Store in Kincaid, Frank’s A & W Root Beer and for the State Of Illinois.

Surviving are 2 sons David E. German and James L. German both of Kincaid, IL 3 grandchildren Shanon and his wife Erica German of Niantic, IL Kevin and his wife Chelsea German of Carlinville, IL Christina and her husband Thomas Johnson of Sherwood, IL along with 4 great grandchildren and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Harry Ray in 1948 and Morris in 1984, husband Glen in 1986 and a granddaughter Jamie L. German in 2002.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville, IL.  Fr. Jesse Eugene Crowder of Palmer

Jesse Eugene Crowder, 67, of Palmer, IL, passed away on February 3, 2014 at 1:05 p.m. at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. He was born on September 24, 1946 in Taylorville, IL; the son Jesse Clifford and Rita (Owens) Crowder. He married Marie Ballard on September 19, 1964 in Taylorville, IL. He was a retired Machinist from Catepillar Tractor Company and drove a bus for Taylorville Transit and Cavello Bus lines. He is survived by his wife, Marie, daughters: Pamela Anderson of Springfield, IL. Tamara (Michael) Wareham of Taylorville, IL, and Donna (Anthony) Turney of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren: Jeffery Anderson of Springfield, IL, Britni (Sebastian) Fetten of Salt Lake City, UT, Justin Turney of Taylorville, IL, Jessica Turney of Taylorville, IL, Brandon Wareham of Taylorville, IL and Brock Wareham of Taylorville, IL; brothers: Michael Crowder of Tovey, IL and Mark Crowder of Tovey, IL; sisters: Marcella (David) Ballard of Tovey, IL and Marlene Szabo of Tovey, IL; sisters-in-law: Barbara Stafford of Eureka, IL, Marlene Dunn of Blue Mound IL, Marcia (Robert) Smith of Palmer, IL and Patricia Huddleston of Palmer, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna Sue (Deeren) Campbell of Taylorville

Donna Sue (Deeren) Campbell, 60, of Taylorville, died at 11:30 am Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 20, 1953 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Thomas Bryce and Naomi Jean Dawson Deeren. On March 17, 1980 she married Walter Earl Campbell in Irving, TX. Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville where she was active in the choir and the Meals-on-Wheels program. She graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1971, and attended Lincoln Land Community College. Donna also served as a Sergeant in the Indiana and Texas Army National Guard as a Dental Technician and Medical Specialist from 1974 – 1982. Mrs. Campbell was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Haselmere Chapter #221 Order of Eastern Star as well as several other offices in the organization. She was a member and past High Priestess of White Shrine. Donna was also a member of AmVets and American Legion both in Taylorville. She was a Cub Scout Leader in Pack 68 for many years.

Surviving are her husband, Walter of Taylorville; Daughter, Patrie Campbell of Taylorville; and Son, Glenn B. Campbell of Kissimmee, FL as well as a step-son Michael Campbell and wife Valerie of Telephone, TX. Grandchildren: Sean Pancho, Jaden Sobish, Ryon Sobish, and Devin Campbell. Also surviving is an Aunt Jo Dawson of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Campbell.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 10, 2014 at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Grove City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm in McClure Funeral Home Taylorville. Eastern Star Rites will be held at 5:30 pm.

Louis W. Swinger of Edinburg

Louis W. Swinger, 93, of Edinburg. IL, passed away on February 5, 2014 at 5:23 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on September 4, 1920 in Jacksonville, IL; the son of Alfred G. and Agnes (Vasey) Swinger. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Swinger studied Accounting at Milliken University before entering the USA Air Corps. Captain Swinger served as a B-17 Bombardier in missions over Europe during WWII. He set a record for completing of 50 missions within a 3 month period. Following his service he married Mary Olga Gresham of Atwater, California on August 23, 1944; she preceded him in passing in 1996. In 1945 he returned to farm with his father in Morrisonville; then moved to Edinburg to work the farm that continues to be operated by his family. For many years he was a District Manager for the Bear Hybrid Seed Corn Company. During his life in Edinburg Mr. Swinger was an active participant in the Edinburg Methodist Church, sporting activities, Blueville Masonic Lodge #647 A.F. & A.M., the Edinburg volunteer Fire Department and the Edinburg Lions Club. Mr. Swinger was a lifelong member of the Christian County Farm Bureau and a member of the Illinois Farmers Union. He also served on the board of the Mechanicsburg Farmers Co-0p. He is survived by his children: Gary Swinger of Pleasant View, TN. Marsha (David) Curry of Marissa, IL, Marla (Jerry) Dewhirst of Mahomet, IL, Robert (Deborah) Swinger of Edinburg, IL and Maureen (Jeffery) Koppelman of Columbia, MO; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, his loving wife Olga; granddaughter, Anna Dewhirst; brothers: Jack & George Swinger.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Edinburg United Methodist Church. The body will lie in state from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Ray Radae will officiate the services. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery in Morrisonville, IL.

Merle Monroe Micenheimer of Taylorville

Merle Monroe Micenheimer, 89, of Taylorville, IL died at 12:29 pm Monday, February 3, 2014 at his residence.

He was born November 27, 1924 in Taylorville the son of Raymond Monroe and Grace Huffman Micenheimer. On July 15, 1950 he married Betty L. Rogers at the First Methodist Church in Taylorville. She preceded him in death on August 6, 2004. Merle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, United Methodist Men, and served as head usher for over 40 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 19th AAA Tophat Division, member of V.F.W. Post 4495, American Legion Post 73, and Amvets Post 29. Mr. Micenheimer graduated from the University of Illinois and received his Master’s Degree from Millikin University. He taught Social Studies and Physical Education in the Stonington Middle School, and was a long time baseball coach and track coach. He also coached Special Olympics. Following his retirement from teaching he went to work at the Christian County Mental Health Workshop as a caregiver and teacher. Merle was an avid Cub fan and served on the Board of Directors of C.E.F.S for many years. He earned his Black Belt in Tai Kwan Do at the age of 86, and was a marathon runner competing in 17 marathons. It is estimated that he ran enough miles to circle the Earth at the Equator. For the last 20 years he organized a volunteer crew at St. John’s Breadline in Springfield.

Surviving are his son: Larry Micenheimer and wife Lisa of Effingham, Daughters: Chris Ransdell and husband Terry and Susan Tolliver all of Taylorville. There are 7 Grandchildren: Andrew Micenheimer, Tyler Micenheimer and wife Erin, Haley Micenheimer, Christopher Tolliver, Scott Tolliver, Sarah Ransdell, and Kelsey LeVault and husband Jimmy. Half-brother: Jim Micenheimer and wife Linda of Taylorville, and half-sister, Mary Davey and husband Tom of Mt. Zion. There are several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, aunt and uncle, Orvie and Ivy Huffman, step-mother, Ida Maude Micenheimer, and mother-in-law, Helen Rogers.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Friday, February 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial with Military honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville.

Theresa Robison of Taylorville

 Theresa J. Robison 84, of Taylorville, passed away on February 2, 2014 at 8:35 a.m. at her residence in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 18, 1930 in Dyersburg, TN; the daughter Cecil and Iva (Orzment) Smith. She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1948 and later Brown’s Business College. She married Ray Robison in November of 1981 in Decatur, IL; he preceded her in passing on January 1, 1993. She was retired. She had worked as a Secretary and Bookkeeper for Hopper Paper Company, First Trust Bank in Taylorville and First National Bank in Taylorville, IL. She was a member and served as a Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, IL. 

She is survived by her daughters: Pam (Jim) Bolte of Taylorville, IL and Karen Molohon of Marietta, GA; grandchildren: Colleen (Jeremy) Ahrendt of Taylorville, IL, Jeremy (Kendall) McLeod of Virginia Beach, VA, and Christopher McLeod of Kennesaw, GA; great-grandchildren: Taylor Ahrendt, Kayden Aherndt, Alexis McLeod and Connor McLeod; several nieces including Beverly Graham of Taylorville, IL; several nephews including Jim (Pam) McGowan of Rochester, IL She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, Ray; brother, Wayne Smith; sisters: Helen McGowan, Rachel Baccadutre, Gloria Kennedy, Marilyn Land, Wastille Jones and Elizabeth Katka.

 Visitation will be from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m.at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville. Pastor Bob Spurgin will officiate the services. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Benjamin Mansfield of Taylorville

Benjamin “Ben” F. Mansfield, 80 of Taylorville passed away at 12 Noon, Wednesday, January 29, 2014  at the Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville.  He was born January 25, 1934 in Hillsboro, IL son of Everett and Tobitha C. nee Bremer Mansfield.  He married Janet Ryan in Taylorville in January 1955 and she preceded him in death on February 20, 1995.

Ben had served his Country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force.  He retired as a Welder from Caterpillar and was a member of the UAW.  He headed up the Alcoholics Anonymous in Decatur.  He loved to fish and his biggest love was watching the Illini Basketball games and the Chicago Cubs games.

He is survived by his Daughter: Kimberly K. Phares of Taylorville; Son Benjamin E. Mansfield of Blue Mound; 8 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren, and many Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Son John E. Mansfield, Brothers: Louis Mansfield, John Mansfield, Raymond Mansfield, Samuel Mansfield and Edward Mansfield and his Sister Frances Bayne.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Sutton Memorial Home with Reverend Jason Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of services Tuesday at the Sutton Memorial Home.

Alice Margaret Miller of Taylorville

 Alice Margaret (Borgic) Miller, 91 of Taylorville passed away at 8:35 AM Friday, January 31, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born February 11, 1922 in Pana, Daughter of Edward and Agnes (nee: Enig) Borgic.  She married Louis Miller in Pana, IL October of 1948 and he survives her in Taylorville.
She was a Member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.  She loved to bowl and took great pride in caring for her family.
She is survived by her Husband of 65 years Louis Miller of Taylorville, Sons: Ed Miller and wife Theresa of Owaneco, Joe Miller and wife Barb of Taylorville and John Miller and wife Debbie of Harvel; Daughter Marilyn Morehead and husband Larry of Decatur; 8 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 Brothers, her Daughter Patricia and a Grandson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 7th, 2014 at the Sutton Memorial Home with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Assumption.  Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Thursday, February 6th, 2014 at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Suresht Gill of Taylorville

 

Suresht S. Gill, 90 of Taylorville, IL died at 9:50 am Friday, January 31, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.He was born July 25, 1923 in India, the son of Harnam S. and Jai Kaur Gill. On March 25, 1947 he married Sarjit K. Klair in India. Mr. Gill was the Inspector General of Prisons in India until his retirement. 

Surviving are his wife, Sarjit of Taylorville; Sons: Dr. Pavi S. Gill and wife Amy of Taylorville and Pilot Gill and wife Gail of Atlanta, GA. 4 Grandchildren: Dr.Gunvir Gill, Rustam Gill, Liam Gill, and Alex Gill. Sister: Gurjinder K. Brar of India. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Dr. Ravi Gill. 

Private family services will be held. There will be no public visitation.
