Seymone Alexis Pelichoff

Seymone Alexis Pelichoff, 36 of Taylorville, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on April 9, 1990, the daughter of Steven Aaron Roemer and Jennifer Helen Ward.

Seymone was a beautiful free spirit whose personality was as big as her heart. She had a passion for the little things that many people overlook — being outdoors, feeling the grass beneath her bare feet, watching the stars, spending time near the water, and a love for music. She carried a light within her that naturally drew people to her. Her positive energy and infectious laugh could brighten any room she entered, and her kind soul left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Seymone lived life with an open heart and found joy in simple moments. She was the kind of person who made others feel seen, loved, and accepted. Her warmth, compassion, and caring nature will continue to be remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Above all else, Seymone loved being a mother. Her children were her whole world and her greatest purpose in life. The love she had for them was endless and unconditional, and they were the center of her heart.

She is survived by her beloved children, Dexter Pelichoff, Milo Pelichoff, Quincy Pelichoff, Cameron Humes. Also, her beloved stepchildren Tripp and Klairaa Pelichoff of Taylorville.

She is also survived by her siblings and loved ones: Brittany Roemer and Brandon, along with their children Dyllin, Lilyin, Madylin, and Finley; Logan Roemer and Brianna; Kirsten and Michael Proctor; Maeghanne Roemer; McKenzie Reid; Dustin Reid; and Jaidyn Kramer and Jeremiah, along with their children Izabella and Dennis.

Rita Ann Harriss

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Rita Ann Harriss, age 79, of Taylorville, Illinois, who passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, in her home surrounded by loved ones.

Rita was born on May 17, 1947, in Taylorville, Illinois, to Leo and Ruth Durbin. She spent her life caring for others, serving her community, and creating a home and friendships that welcomed everyone who entered.

On April 2, 1966, she married the love of her life, Robert Harriss. Together they built a life rooted in love, friendship, adventure, and family, and this year celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary—an extraordinary milestone and testament to a love that lasted a lifetime.

Rita is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Harriss; her three children: Janel Pruitt of Ft Myers, Florida; Jetta (Lori) Harriss of Taylorville, Illinois; and Jeff Harriss of Ft. Myers, Florida.

She also leaves behind two beloved grandsons: Sam (Hannah) Brubaker of Springfield, Illinois; Rolla Pruitt, stationed in Poland; and one Great-granddaughter, Summer Brubaker.

Rita is further survived by her sisters: Clara Ethridge of Taylorville, Illinois; Sarah Cattinari of Bland, Missouri; Wanda (Marion) Sparks of Nokomis, Illinois; and Mary Tex of Fairfield, Montana; and by her brother Paul (Anna) Durbin of Jeiseyville, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers, Ernie, Wayne, Jim, and Tom.

Rita dedicated her professional life to caring for others. As a public health nurse for Christian County for more than 20 years, she vaccinated thousands of children, supported families through family planning services, and provided compassionate care to many seniors throughout the community.

Her calling to care for others began early and lived deep within her. After Robert’s service in the Navy, the two moved to Seattle, Washington, where Rita completed nursing school at Virginia Mason Hospital. Nursing was more than a career—it was an expression of who she was.

After Rita and Bob’s retirement, they found joy in the simple and meaningful things—spending time together enjoying the peace and beauty of their backyard and their lake lot on Taylorville Lake. It became a place of quiet moments, laughter, reflection, and memories shared with family and friends.

Rita was a woman full of spirit and laughter and was known, at times, to be a little ornery in the best possible way. She had a rare gift: when she met you, she remembered your name. She looked you in the eye and said it back to you—as if to remind you that you mattered and that your place in this world was seen.

She was also a published poet and author whose words painted vivid images and stirred emotion. Her writing continues to live on throughout the community, with pieces still displayed on walls and carried in memories.

But above all else, Rita was a friend.

Her children each had their own unique friendship with her—and so did many of their friends. Rita opened her heart wide and became a surrogate mother to countless people over the years. She gave all comfort, laughter, guidance, and a place to belong, a safe space with no judgement.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the family lake house located at 401 S. Hunt Road, Taylorville, Illinois. A short prayer service will begin at 3:00 PM. Arnold "Arnie" Hilliard

Arnold “Arnie” Hilliard, of Taylorville, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at home surrounded by family.  He now rests in heaven with his Lord and Savior.

Arnie was born on April 22, 1937, in Shelbyville, Illinois, the son of Jeff and Inez Hilliard.  He married Shirley Wood on March 16, 1958, at Tower Hill Christian Church in Tower Hill, Illinois.

After graduating from Shelbyville High School in 1955, Arnie enlisted in the United States Navy on June 14, 1955, as a Shipfitter.  He was proud of his military service having served primarily on the USS Randolph (CVA-15) with two Mediterranean cruises in July 1956 and July 1957.  He always joked that he got one over on the Navy, having only served 3 years, 11 months and 29 days of a 4-year enlistment.

After his Navy service, he returned to Shelbyville to work at the Shelby Electric Cooperative, taking a job in the summer of 1959, where he worked as an apprentice lineman alongside his dad and brother.  In 1967 he moved the family to Taylorville, Illinois where he and Shirley established deep roots.  He worked for Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPS) as a lineman from 1966 until 2002.

In the early 1970s, Arnie became a charter member of the Christian County Sheriff’s Reserve.  He loved his time working with law enforcement for almost 20 years.  The Sheriff’s Reserve worked alongside county deputies providing additional manpower when it was needed.  He was an expert marksman who relished in his ability to normally outshoot folks who were much younger than him.

He retired from CIPS and the Sheriff’s Reserve in 1990 and began to truly enjoy what endeared him to his friends and family.  He was a master craftsman who never feared taking on any project.  He was a master woodworker, one of his most prized hobbies.  He was well known for making everything from furniture for his children and grandchildren to very intricate Christmas ornaments for friends and acquaintances. It was not unusual for him to give these wonderful gifts to people he barely knew.

He and Shirley loved to camp in their travel trailer.  For many years they would leave the harsh winter of Illinois to spend three months in central Texas.  They worked for over twenty years as volunteers for the United States Army Corps of Engineers at parks in Georgetown, Texas in the winter and at Lake Shelbyville, Illinois during the summers.  In 2024, they were recognized as USACOE Volunteers of the Year for the Saint Louis District.

Arnie was a mentor to many young men throughout his life.  He loved teaching folks how to do woodworking or electrical work.  He was a patient, hard-working man who was always happy to pass on his expertise to anyone.  He loved the outdoors and nature.  He was also an avid reader who loved Louis L’Amour.  He read every book L’Amour ever wrote and loved visualizing what life might have been like back in the early days of our country.  He was patriotic and loved the Lord.

His faith was enduring.  Arnie and Shirley were members of the Taylorville Christian Church from the early 1970s establishing long-lasting friendships with so many.  He spent many hours in the mid 1970s giving his time to the church during construction of the new church building which was dedicated in 1976.  Later, he and his best friend, Jim Nuelle, were co-superintendents for the Vision Way Christian School.  They led the project which was a culmination of so many years of giving back.

Arnie is survived by his wife Shirley, the love of his life.  He is also survived by his children: Mike (Samantha) of Salado, Texas and Shelly (Jim) Curtin of Taylorville and grandchildren Olivia (Clint) Fletcher of Sherman, Illinois and Spencer Curtin of Stonington, Illinois.  He was so proud of his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, Sloane and Brooks Fletcher.  He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; Jack Hilliard and Vivian Perryman.
