Margaret Lucille Granny B Badman of Taylorville

Margaret Lucille "Granny B" Badman 87, of Taylorville formerly of Palmer, IL died Friday, December 28, 2012 at 7:25am in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born January 28, 1925 in Taylorville, the daughter of Walter and Sarah (Olde) Stockon. She married George Leonard Badman on October 7, 1944 in Macon, IL. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2005. She was a retired homemaker. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Palmer, IL. She loved playing bingo and camping. She enjoyed and loved her grandkids. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends at Rolling Meadows.

She is survived by Sons: Kenneth "Ray" (Dayle) Badman of Taylorville, James (Sue) Badman of Plamer, IL and Billy (Anita) Badman of Palmer, IL, Daughters: Janet (Cayle) Davis of Palmer, IL Connie (Tony) Cook, Victoria (Tom) Grundy of Morrisonville, IL, 14 Grandchildren, 25 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Brother Donald Stockon of AZ, Sister Virginia Dowdy of Palmer, IL. She was preceded in death by Parents, husband, George "Leonard", eight siblings, grandchild, Billy Ray Badman, Great-Grandchild, Darren Allen Durbin.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL. Funeral Services will be on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10:00am at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with Rev. Dayle Badman officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, Palmer, IL.

John D. Dyer of Springfield

John D. Dyer, 64, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at 11:29am at his residence. He was born November 11, 1948 in Springfield. He was the son of James R. “Russ” Dyre and Catherine Caroline Riedinger. He was a retired maintenance appliance repair man.

He is survived by his sons: Tony Dyer of AR and Joseph Dyer of Springfield, Grandchildren: Tiffani and Catelynne Dyer, brothers: James (Tike) Dyer of Springfield, Ted (Janis) of Springfield and Don (Delorise) Dyer of Waggoner, IL, sisters Edna Loman of Taylorville and Rose (Al) Beach of Jacksonville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Patrick.

Funeral and Inurnment services will be held at a later date.

Margaret Marguerita Grauer of Taylorville

Margaret Marguerita Grauer, 86, of Taylorville, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at 11:57pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.  She was born November 18, 1926 in Langleyville, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Vincent and Angelina (Pante) Corso.  She married Robert G. "Bob" Grauer on November 11, 1950 in Taylorville.  He later preceded her in death on August 24, 1985.  She was a retired homemaker and retired from Sangamon Card Company.  She was a member of the CD of A, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Mary's Catholic Church.  She loved to cook and spending timer with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela (Shad) Griffin of Tayorville, Roberta (Todd) Beaty of Taylorville and Carolyn "Kelly" (Ron) Pritchett of Taylorville; grandchildren, Ashley (Eddie) Smith of Taylorville, Maggi and Rossi Pritchett of Taylorville, Zach Beaty of Somonauk, IL and Kelsey Beaty of Taylorville; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Greydon and Gabrielle Smith of Taylorville and Cooper Beaty of Plano, IL; sister, Kay (Jack) Cline) of Davenport, IA; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Vincent Corso (in infancy) and John V. Corso, and two sisters, Maria Corso and Natalie Hughes.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Sutton Memoiral Home in Taylorville.  With Funeral services beginning at 1:00pm.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Father Alan Hunter will be officiating.

William Boyd Hunt of Taylorville

William Boyd Hunt, 76, of Taylorville, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at the Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was born December 22, 1936 in Peoria, IL, the son of Fred F. and Lavon Boyd Hunt. On October 14, 1956 he married Delores Ann Turner at the First Baptist Church in Taylorville. Mr. Hunt retired from Peabody Mine #10 in 1995. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, United Mine Workers of America Local 9819, The National Rifle Association, Moose Lodge 1516, and Crop Hoppers Ultra-Light. He was an avid supporter of the N.R.A., and enjoyed flying his ultra-light and enjoying being with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Delores Hunt of Taylorville, 4 daughters” Wendy O’Bryan and husband Mark of Taylorville, Dana McKinnon of Taylorville, Penny Richards and husband Jeff of Rochester, and Kristine Pruitt of Taylorville. Grandchildren: Joel Withrow and wife Shawna of Taylorville, Wesley Withrow and wife Cassie of Pawnee, Brendon Withrow and wife Kim of Taylorville, Toby Schulte of Kincaid, Blake Richards of Rochester, Ashley Pruitt of Taylorville, and Alexandra Pruitt of Taylorville. Great Grandchildren: Dylan Overhaug, Preston Withrow, Kynlee Withrow of Taylorville, Zander Withrow of Pawnee, and Payton Withrow of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law: Rick McKinnon.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 27, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville with Reverend David Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of service in the church on Thursday.

George William Bill Meyer of Springfield

George William "Bill" Meyer, 86, of Taylorville, died surrounded by his family, at 12:17pm Friday, December 21, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield.

He was born June 1, 1926 in Iuka, IL, the son of George and Nellie Copenhaver Meyer.  On March 30, 1947, he married Alberta Siegrist in Taylorville.  Mr. Meyer was an Army veteran of World War II, and was employed as a bricklayer for 32 years.  He later worked as a custodian at North School, a maintenance man for Plaza Rental, maintenance man for First National Bank, and a driver for Bob Ridings Ford.  His love was spoiling his 5 grandkids and buying them new tires and gas.  He also thought the world of his Great Grandchildren.  He was a meber of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, VFW Post 4495, American Legion Post 73, and the Bricklayers Union.

He is survived by his wife Alberta of Taylorville; 3 daughters:  Kay Cowell and husband Dave of Taylorville, Janet Smith and husband Steve of Salem, and Beth Lindvahl and husband Craig of Effingham.  5 Grandchildren:  Jeff Cowell and wife Sheilal and Doug Cowell and wife Lisa of Taylorville, Sarah Campbell and husband Nik of Collinsville, Natalie Weaver and husband Tim of Sparta, and Andrew Smith and Companion Hannah of Troy.

Also surviving are 4 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, and 2 step Great-great grandchildren, and a sister:  Betty Schroeder and husband Mel of New Jersey.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Meyer.

Visitation was from 4pm to 6pm Sunday, December 23, 2012, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Private family services were held at 9am Monday, December 24, at the funeral home with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Russell Brooks of Nokomis

Russell Brooks, 51, of Nokomis passed away at 3:36am on December 18, 2012 at Pana Community Hospital. He was born on May 17, 1961, the son of Everett Brooks and Marjorie (Miller) Stokes. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Nokomis. He was a very special person and loved everyone and everything. He graduated from Tri-City High School and was an avid wrestling fan.

He is survived by his mother Marjorie Stokes, father Everett Brooks, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 1 step brother, 1 step sister, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunt and uncle, and great niece.

Funeral services will be held on Friday December 21, 2012 at 11am at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with Rev. Edmond Hill officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday December 21, 2012 from 10am to 11am at Sutton Funeral Home, Nokomis. Burial will be in Rockford Cemetery, Clarksburg, IL.

Estella M. Simmons of Pana

Estella M. Simmons, 96, of Pana passed away on December 16, 2012 at 12:47pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born December 6, 1916 in Taylorville IL. Daughter of Olga and Pearl Southard Parish. She married Sam Isaac on March 20, 1934 in Vandalia IL. She was a retired general electric worker, was a member of the Nazarene Church of Stonington, she loved flowers, yard work and traveling.

She is survived by sons Howard Simmons, Dale Simmons, Harold Simmons, Merle Simmons, daughter in law, Yvette Simmons, Alice Simmons, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sons.

Funeral Services will be held December 19, 2012 at 11am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Ken Manning officiating. Visitation will be December 19, 2012 from 10am to 11am at Sutton Memorial Home. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Mt. Auburn IL.

Frank J. Bough of Taylorville

Frank J. Bough, 81, of Taylorville died at 3:38 am Sunday December 16, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 11, 1931 in Stonington, the son of William H. and Effie Maria Tabor Bough. Frank was an Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He left the military with 12 1/2 years of service. He was affiliated with the baptist church in Kincaid. Frank retired from Peabody Coal Company Mine #10 and was a member of the United Mine Workers Local 9819. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #122 AF and AM, Ansar Shrine and Consistory, and the Christian County Shrine Club, he drove for Landmark Automotive for 18 years and Bob Ridings in Taylorville. Frank's real love was his kids and grandkids. He also enjoyed playing bingo.

Surviving are his wife Margie Bough, son Gary Cooper, daughter Pam McCarty, twin sister Mary Taylor, and brother Richard Bough, 1 son in law, 1 daughter in law, 9 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, son, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 10am Wednesday December 19, 2012 at GlenHaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dick Wamsley officiating. Military rights will be conducted.

Thomas Charles Wiseman of Palmer

Thomas Charles Wiseman, 34, of Palmer died at 2:45 pm Saturday December 15, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born October 10, 1978 in Taylorville, the son of Thomas Austin and Linda Joanne Diss Wiseman. On April 24, 2009 he married Christina Marie Tarrant in Taylorville. He had been employed by R&R Construction in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife Christina Wiseman, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 1 sister, grandfather, 3 nieces, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Kenneth and Louise Wiseman and Anna Lee Diss.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am Wednesday December 19, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home with Jared Hohenstein officiating. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm Tuesday in the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, Palmer. There will be a dinner at the Taylorville Moose Lodge following burial.

Opal R. Dempsey of Taylorville

Opal R. Dempsey, 89, of Taylorville passed away on December 15, 2012 at 4:30 pm at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville. She was born on November 1, 1923 in Eldorado, IL, daughter of Thomas A. and Lillie R. (Warfield) Payne. She married George J. Dempsey on June 1, 1943 in Princeton IN and he later preceded her in death February 3, 1989. She was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress in Pamida. She was also a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church.

She is survived by her sons George "Sonny" Dempsey Jr., William Dempsey, Larry (Pam) Dempsey, and Garry Dempsey, and daughters, Pamela Dempsey, and Brenda McCormick, 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, 2 step great grandsons, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded by her parents, husband George, 3 brothers, 1 sister, 1 son in law, and granddaughter April Leigh Dempsey.

Funeral Services will be held on December 20, 2012 at 10am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. W. Thomas Bellegante officiating. Visitation will be held December 19, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Helen L. Johnson of Taylorville

Helen L. Johnson, 88, of Taylorville, passed away December 12, 2012 at 4:07am at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.  She was born September 26, 1924 in Taylorville, the daughter of Lafayette and Ida Belle Mills Sparling.  She married Howard Johnson on April 20, 1945 in Hillsboro, IL. and he later preceded her in death.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by grandchildren;  Teresa Owens of Taylorville, IL., Rodney (Kristine) Ivan Jarabejo-Johnson of The Philippines, Ryan (Jessica) Guiang-Johnson of The Philippines; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, children, Roger and Sandra; 6 brothers and 6 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00am in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Philip Neumann officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 from 10 - 11am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Robert Patrick Spinner of Taylorville

Robert Patrick Spinner, 70, of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday December 12, at 3:30am at Taylorville Care Center surrounded by his family. He was born March 17, 1942 in Taylorville, the son of William Joseph and Ruth Catherine Kader Spinner. On April 30, 1966, he married Rose M. Daniels in Springfield. Mr. Spinner was a veteran of the US Airforce serving from 1962-1966. He had been employed by Circle Steel for 28 years until its closing and then worked at Sloan Implement and GSI. He was affiliated with St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, VFW Post 4495 and Christian County Senior Citizens Center. He loved being with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the Senior Center, playing the lottery and going to the river boats.

He is survived by his wife Rose, son Robert P. Spinner, Jr. and wife Shallon of Taylorville; daughter Anita Lawyer and husband Dennis of Taylorvill; 8 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 brother in law, 1 sister in law, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, brother in law and sister in law.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev Steve Switzer officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30am until the time of service in the church on Saturday. At his request, Mr. Spinner was creamated.

Vicki Ann Dressen of Bulpitt

Vicki Ann Dressen , 61, of Bulpitt passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 15, 1951 in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of David and Sally Breese. On June 13, 1989 she married Kenneth Allen Dressen in Luisville Kentucky.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Dressen, father Davis Breese, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 1 step daughter, 5 grand children, 1 brother, 1 sister, and 1 nephew. She was preceded in death by her mother.

A celebration of life will be held December 15, 2012 from 10am to 12pm in Taylorville Township Hall, 1620 W. Spresser Street, Taylorville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to defray final expenses may be sent to Kenneth Dressen, 307 Henry, Bulpitt IL 62517.

Helen Joann Gibson of Taylorville

Helen Joanne Gibson, 77, of Taylorville passed away December 8, 2012 at 4:40am at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born January 16, 1935 in Pocahontas IL, daughter of John and Golda Tipsword Farley. She married Charles Tater and then later married Brent G. Gibson on September 20, 2003 in Taylorville, IL. She was a retired seamstress and owner of Helen's Sewing and alterations. She was also a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her husband Brent, daughters Brenda Evans, and Debra Walton, by 1 step daughter, 4 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Alec Cohoon, first husband, son-in-law, sister, and 3 brothers.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 11, 2012 at 11am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Prayer service will be held Tuesday December 11, 2012 at 5pm at Sutton Memorial Home. Visitation will be Tuesday December 11, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at Sutton Memorial Home.

Carolyn J. Durbin of Taylorville

Carolyn J. Durbin, 71, passed away December 8, 2012 at 8:34 am at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born February 12, 1941 in Kincaid IL, the daughter of Florence Ray and Ruby Pearl Skinner Durbin. She married Gene A. Durbin on February 21, 1959 in Taylorville IL. Carolyn was a retired homemaker, and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Taylorville.

She is survived by her husband Gene, daughter Sharon (Bob) Travis, sons Tom (Tonya) Durbin and Bo (Joy) Durbin, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded by her parents, brothers Ernest Durbin, Elsie Durbin, and David Durbin.

Graveside Services will be held Thursday December 13, 2012 at 10am  at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer with Rev. Ed Heppe officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be Wednesday December 12, 2012 from 5pm to 7:30pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Pauline Gartshore of Taylorville

Pauline Gartshore, 98, of Taylorville passed away at 6:35am Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.  She was born September 7, 1914 in Nilwood, IL., the daughter of Joseph and Rufina Walter Rich.  On August 31, 1933 she married Robert P. Gartshore and he preceded her in death in November, 1961. 

She is survived by her children:  Grace Marshall of Forney, TX., Robert P. Gartshore and wife Mary Lou of Taylorville, Eugence R. Gartshore and wife Peggy of Taylorville, Karen S. Hull of Taylorville, Patricia J. Clark and husband James of Worden, IL. and Bonnie M. Gartshore of San Diego, CA.; sister-in-law, Velma Rich of Virden, IL..; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Lee Rich and Paul Rick, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Nila C. Smith of Taylorville

Nila C. Smith, 91, passed away on December 1, 2012 at 9:15 am in her residence in Taylorville. She was born on October 19, 1921 in Logan IL, the daughter of Roy and Elizabeth Sharp Klinger. She married Dorice Smith on April 18, 1942 in Taylorville and later preceded her on January 25, 2011. Nila was a sales lady at Blakleys department store, and retired from Bullpitts furniture store and later Shirley's dress shop.

She is survived by her daughter, Shelley (Tom) Carlen, daughter in law Kathy Smith, 2 grandchildren, a nephew, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, brothers, sister in law and 3 nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 5, 2012 at 2pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Bill Kerns officiating. Visitation will be held on December 5, 2012 from 1pm to 2pm at Sutton Memorial Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Nancy Scholes of Taylorville

Nancy Scholes, 73, of Taylorville passed away on December 1, 2012 at 2:14 pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 25, 1939 in Taylorville, IL, daughter of William Cecil and Lucille M. Baughman Alberts. She married Frank A. Scholes on January 16, 1958 in Coranth, Mississippi. Nancy was a homemaker, Pamida supervisor, and a babysitter. She was also a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church.

Nancy is survived by her husband Frank; daughter, Denise D. Scholes of Taylorville;  son, Kirk E. (Jill) Scholes of Nokomis; 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grand children, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 half brother, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 nephews, and 2 infant nieces.

Chester Arthur Elam of Taylorville

Chester Arthur Elam, 88, of Taylorville passed away December 1, 2012 at 11:28pm in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield IL. He was born on March 26, 1924 in Fayette County the son of Madison and Stella Folkers Elam. He married Georgia Emerson on October 28, 1944 in Taylorville IL. He worked as a paper maker at Georgia Pacific for 32 years. Chester was also a craftsman, visionary, handyman, and a good provider for his family. He enjoyed wood working projects, was a proficient welder, musically gifted, and was multi talented. He had an entrepreneurship using his Ford tractor. He was also once a certified Auctioneer.

He is survived by his wife Georgia (Emerson) Elam, daughters, Bonnie (Preston) Leaderbrand of Spencer, IN., Vickie Dixon of Edinburg, Ellen Elam (Dan Kuchen) of Taylorville; sons, Steve (Wanda) Elam of Palmer, and Martin (Sheryl) Elam of Nokomis; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 3 step sisters, 1 step brother, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 5, 2012 at 11am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Philip Neumann officiating. Visitation will be held December 4, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm and Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 10am to 11am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.  Burial will be in Fraley Cemetery in Taylorville.
