Robert Lee Reeves, 92 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 10:07 a.m. at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on January 22, 1930 in Detroit, MI the son of Carl and Helen (Shaw) Reeves. He married Mary Lou Linn on August 1, 1953 in the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, IL. Bob ran The Minute Car Wash first for several years, then becoming an electrician, having his own business until retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, Mound Lodge #122 AF&AM in Taylorville, VFW Post #4495 and he played in the Senior Citizen retired Golf League on Mondays at Lake Shore Golf Course in Taylorville.

He is survived by his Wife: Mary Lou Reeves of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Terree (Jeffrey) May of Palmer, IL; Debbee (Greg) Polovich of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Caleb (Kimberly) May of Palmer, IL; Jordan May of Breese, IL; Katie (Travis) Roach of Decatur, IL; Kimberly (Jerry) Stout of Valdosta, GA; Jason Polovich of Waterloo, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Payton and Colin May; Brooklyn, Campbell and Henley Roach; Jett, Kobe, Cora and Wynn Stout and nieces: Shannon Falk and Tammy Reeves. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: James Reeves.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Sr. Rose McKeown officiating, Military Graveside honors and Masonic Rites.

Sheila S. Parish, 75 of Taylorville, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria.  She was born on September 8, 1946 in Taylorville.  She married Jimmie Parrish in 1964, and he preceded her in death in 1974.  Sheila graduated from Kincaid High School and previously taught Bible School for several years.  She will be remembered by her sweet, kind-hearted personality, and more than anything, she loved her family.

She is survived by her children: Angela Durbin (Dave) and Cindy Nation (Evert) of Taylorville, and Jimmie Parish (Karen) of Tiskilwa, Illinois; grandchildren: Justin Durbin, Jessica Durbin (Chris), Zachary Durbin (Amber), Christopher Durbin, Cody Durbin (Brooke), Tyler Parish, Alex Parish, and Mylie Nation; and 9 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother: Nellie Cole-Shellhammer and husband: Jimmie Parrish.

John Arthur King, 70 of Clayton, NC, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 1 PM on January 22, 2022 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC following a battle with Lung Cancer.  

John was born on June 2, 1951 in Pana, IL, the son of Raymond and Wanda (Atwood) King.   He married Celeste Root at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Assumption, on August 24, 1974.  John graduated from Assumption High School in 1969, he attended IL Central College and went on to work as a Deputy at The Christian County Sheriff’s Department. He worked for the Illinois State Police from 1974-2002. He retired as Captain of District 12.  He will be remembered as an intelligent, dedicated, hard- working, loving man who was very well respected by everyone who knew him.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, riding his Harley and spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.

Mr. King is survived by his Daughter: Stephanie Spresser (Robert Kerzman) of Saint Charles, IL; Son Christopher (Janice) King of Clayton, NC.  Grandchildren: Evan Spresser and Cole Spresser, of Saint Charles, IL; Kaitlyn King of Clayton, NC; Mother: Wanda King of Decatur, IL; Sister: Esther Cunningham of Danville, IL; Brother: Alan (BJ) King of White Heath, IL; Sister in-laws: Suzie Helm, Michelle Smart, Jackie (Don) Morrison; Brother in-law Bill (Jackie) Root; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his brother Timothy, his father and his wife. 

Mr. King will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday February 5, 2022 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption immediately following the memorial service, with a Police Escort.  The family requests no flowers, but to donate to a charity of your choice.  McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marsha Swedick Bolt, 67 of Acworth, Georgia, formerly of Taylorville, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 in Knoxville, Tennessee.  She was born on March 25, 1954 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd and Eunice Johnson.  Marsha loved pioneer women shows and keeping in touch with her friends on social media.  She enjoyed watching and following all things about The Pioneer Woman.  Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband: Randy Bolt of Georgia; children: Keith Morenz of Henderson, Colorado, Todd (Shannon) Morenz of Auburn, Illinois, John Morenz of Taylorville, Illinois, Jennifer Bates of Decatur, Illinois, and Steven (Brittany) Ginn of Canton, Georgia; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son Joe and brothers.

Marilyn Ruth Spresser-O’Bryan, 88, of Taylorville, passed away at 6:13a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.  She was born on August 27, 1933 in Taylorville, the daughter of Joseph W and Irene (Burtle) Spresser.  She married Joseph Richard O’Bryan on February 11, 1956 in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2020.  Mrs. O’Bryan worked for many years as a PE teacher in Kincaid and later was in charge of the in-school suspension program in Taylorville where she became known as Sarge, a nickname that she kept the rest of her life.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America.  Marilyn was active with the Christian County Historical Society and the Genealogical Society.  She and Joe enjoyed taking many fishing trips to Michigan and spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed gardening and canning, sewing, and making soaps.  Marilyn also previously operated her own home business of photo copying and restoration.  

She is survived by her children: John O’Bryan (Stephanie), Mark O’Bryan (Wendy), and Loretta O’Bryan, all of Taylorville; grandchildren: Kelly Schmitz of St. Louis, Trevor O’Bryan of Taylorville, and Chelsey O’Bryan of Springfield; great grandchildren: Rafe, Kyle, Dane, and Reid Schmitz.  She was preceded by in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers and sisters.

Edward L.Dodson, 91, of Taylorville passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 5:05 p.m. at his home in rural Taylorville, IL. He was born on March 19, 1931 in Jefferson City, MO the son of Edmond and Nellie (Bullock) Dodson. He married Geraldine L. Mitchell on September 15, 1951 in Taylorville, IL. Edward retired from Dekalb Poultry in Illiopolis. He loved to be outdoors, enjoying nature. A couple of his favorite past times were bird watching and enjoying the sight and smell of beautiful flowers.

He is survived by his Wife: Geraldine Dodson of Taylorville, IL, Daughter: Bonnie L. Noella C. Fixsal, 84 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 6:47 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on December 25, 1938 in Pana, IL the daughter of Steve and Christina (Leonard) Sparks.

Patricia Ann “Patti” Rozplochowski, 54, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:09pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born on September 7, 1967 in Taylorville, the daughter of Herman A. Brown Sr. and Marilyn H. (Baratta) Brown.  She married Douglas Rozplochowski in 1985 in Taylorville.  Patti earned her CNA certification and previously worked for Head Start as a driver and teacher’s aide.

She enjoyed reading. Her entire life centered around her family, especially her daughters.  To Patti, her children were her entire world, and she was everything to them.  Patti’s love for her children was incredible, equal only to their love of her; she will be remembered as the best mother they could have ever asked for.  

She is survived by her husband: Douglas Rozplochowski; daughters: Jessica Hope Rozplochowski and Jerrica Faith Rozplochowski; granddaughter: Aria Patricia Hope Brown all of Taylorville; siblings: David Brown (Debra) of Kershaw, South Carolina, Karen Miller (Dale) of Nokomis, Linda Ackerman (Leroy) of Taylorville, and Herman Brown (Stephanie) of Langleyville; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Scott Douglas Rozplochowski; and siblings: Barbara Barringer (Jim), Carol Sue Barber, Rosiemarie Kounse, Mary Ward, and John Brown.

Philip C. “Skee” Lynch Jr., 76, of Taylorville, passed away at 5:20pm on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on March 4, 1945 in Chicago, the son of Dr. Philip C. and Dorothy Jeunne (Bostian) Lynch.  Philip graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru and went on to attend Loyola University before receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami.  He then went on to earn his Law Degree from Glendale University in California.  Philip worked as an underwriter for Chicago Title, then Spurling Title in Taylorville and was a licensed real estate broker.  He proudly served his county in the U.S. Navy.  He married Connie S. Becker on September 19, 1980.  Mr. Lynch was an active member of the Christian County YMCA.  He enjoyed traveling to many different destinations around the world, and in recent years especially enjoyed yearly family trips to Panama City Beach.  Throughout the years he enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, and SCUBA diving and was an avid collector of coins and cards.  He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at their monthly poker club.  

He is survived by his wife: Connie Lynch of Taylorville; children: Sessey Lynch (Jed Davis) of Palmer, Nathan Lynch of St. Louis, Stacia Fleigle (Brett) of Morrisonville, and Kitt-Lynne Lynch of Oxford, Mississippi; grandchildren: Levi Davis, Lance Davis, Lacey Davis, Gracelyn Fleigle, and Stella Fleigle; 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.  

The funeral service for Philip will take place at 12:00pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at McClure Funeral Home with Fr. Ronald Margherio officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Burial, with military graveside rites, will take place at Boiling Springs Cemetery in Decatur. Sr. Mary F. Crivello, S.F.O, 93, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Heritage Health in Pana.

Mary was born March 2, 1928 in Taylorville, the daughter of Anthony Bernard “Joe” and Thelma Agnes (Brooks) Crivello.  She graduated from the 8th Grade at St. Mary School in Taylorville, and went on to attend Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield, and St. Louis University. She then gained employment with St. Louis University in the social services department, where she worked for many years.  Mary went on to work as a switchboard operator for St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, before retiring from the medical records department at St. Vincent’s Memorial Hospital. 

Mary devoted her life to the Franciscan Vows she took when joining the 3rd Order of St. Francis.  Her devotion to Christ and Catholicism was known to all who knew and loved her.  She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, and a longtime member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry of Granite City.  Mary enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and she used her talents to make crib covers for many infants, both locally and nationally.  She was a member of the Knitters Guild of Greater St. Louis, and an advocate and member for the Crisis Pregnancy Center.  In her free time, Mary enjoyed traveling and tutoring students with reading difficulties.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Therese “Tee Tee” Clarke; and nephew, Kevin James Clarke.

Mary is survived by her brother, J.B. (wife, Vi) Crivello of Linden, MI; nieces and nephews, Ric Clarke of Nashville, TN, Anne Marie (husband, Albert) Lotter of Dallas, GA, Terry (wife, JoAnn) Clarke of Austin, TX, Tracy Mahan of Taylorville, Mark Anthony (wife, Fran) Clarke of Panama City Beach, FL, Karen Layton of St. Louis, MO, Katy (husband, Jim) Osborne of Indianapolis, IN, and Kelly (husband, Tom) Moody of Houston, TX; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Mary made the gift of donating her body for scientific research.

Anita Rochelle Decker, 58, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:56p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Springfield on June 21, 1963.  Anita worked as an LPN for many years at jobs including Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Springfield Clinic, and Taylorville Terrace.  She was an avid Cubs fan.  Anita loved to read and enjoyed wolves.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and always could put a smile on your face.  

She is survived by her daughters: Amanda Mikula (Dominic Biggs) of Taylorville and Kimberly Lawyer (Tyler Bandy) of Girard; grandson: Ayden Mikula; mother: Rose Spinner of Taylorville; brother: Robert Spinner Jr. (Shallon) of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father: Robert Spinner.

Earlyne Jeanette Keel, 89, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:28a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Chicago on March 27, 1932, the daughter of Earl Leroy and Albie E. (Kloboucnik) Burchfield.  She married James Willard Keel on June 8, 1952 at the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville.  Jim preceded her in death on April 7, 2013.

Earlyne worked as a nurse for many years at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1994.  She was a longtime, active member of Davis Memorial Christian Church, serving in many roles including Elder Emeritus, Women’s Fellowship, and Church Women United.  Earlyne also had a passion for teaching and used that gift to teach Sunday school, nurse’s aide classes, and as a reading aide in the Taylorville schools.  She was a member of the Alpha Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and the Illinois State Nurses Association.  In her free time, she enjoyed reading, taking walks, and watching Hallmark movies.  Playing cards was also something she enjoyed, especially her longtime Friday night Skip Bo card group.  She enjoyed entertaining others at Halloween time as a witch.    

Another highlight for Earlyne was taking part in parades with her friends. She dearly loved visits with her family, especially her grandchildren and their puppies.

She is survived by her children: Jaylene Norris of Olivette, Missouri, David Keel (Angela) of Taylorville, and Dana Schmid (Linus) of Kincaid; grandchildren: Heather Eusebio (Alex) of Olivette, Missouri, Hilary Justus and Christopher Norris of Clarksville, Tennessee, April Mateer (Marty) of Taylorville, Ryan Keel (Lesley) of Taylorville, Jordan Keel (Taylor Kincaid) of Taylorville, Erica Montes of Chicago, and James Montes of Taylorville; great grandchildren: Gavin Norris (Sara Brown), Owen Mateer, Myles Mateer, Jakob Eusebio, Landon Keel, and Morgan Keel; great great grandchildren: Sebastian Norris, Benjamin Norris, and Anthony Norris; nieces: Susan Milton of Bolingbrook and Diane Spisak of Omaha, Nebraska; and several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 2 sisters. 

The funeral service for Earlyne will take place at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Davis Memorial Christian Church with Dennis Metsker officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 on Saturday at the church.  Following the service, Earlyne will be cremated, and a graveside inurnment will take place at 1:00p.m. on Monday, January 24 at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Harold “Lynn” Crites 81, of Taylorville, IL, passed away Saturday January 15, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Lynn was born in Taylorville on September 17, 1940, the son of Merle and Dorothy Crites. He is survived by his wife Marilyn “Sue” Crites whom he married on April 20, 1991, brothers Bob (Barbara) and Phil (Bridgette) both of Taylorville, sons Jim (Denise) of Cleveland, Ohio, Barry (Rebecca) of Decatur, Bradley (Marjorie) of Chatham, Step sons Randy Phillips (Paula) of Springfield, Kent Phillips of Taylorville and Bryan Phillips (Lora) of South Carolina. Nine Grandchildren, Two Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rochelle (Bill) Pampe, and daughter Nancy (John)Rude.

Lynn grew up in rural Taylorville on the timbered land known as Kim Lake, he excelled at football while attending Taylorville High and attended Millikin University in Decatur and was a teammate on the 1961 undefeated football team. Lynn enjoyed golfing his entire life and he would say his best round was shooting even par without a par on his card at the old Faries Park Golf Course. He and Sue loved to travel but were very comfortable being home in the house they built together on the land Lynn grew up on. Lynn made his living in the construction industry, including being the owner of Crites Construction in the 1970’s and 80’s and as an estimator and project manager for many years for Perry Steel in Decatur, and Siciliano Company in Springfield. Two projects of the many he led that he was most proud of were The Crowne Plaza and Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, both in Springfield. As important as his work was to Lynn, his family and his faith in God were more important. According to the gracious will and call of our God by the Lord Jesus Christ, he lived as a Christian man of Christian County, Illinois, and loved his family and friends dearly. Anyone who met him would remember his sense of humor and caring demeanor. He will be missed by many. Keeping with his wishes the family will not be holding any services. Michael Kevin Ochs, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at his home in Lake Stevens, Washington. The family is deeply saddened by his sudden death. Michael, aka Mike, was born on July 4, 1967, in Springfield, Illinois to Michael Henry Ochs and Lenora Kay (Brinson) Brown. His parents share that Mike was a firecracker from day one, and he always made life more interesting (and amusing) for the people around him. Mike grew up in Riverton, Illinois where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. After graduating from Riverton High School in 1985, he studied at DeVry University in Chicago before joining the United States Navy. He served in the Navy from January 2, 1992, to January 1, 2001, achieving the rank of BM2. 

After a decade in the Navy, Mike spent several years repairing appliances and exploring his creative side by carving artistic signs from wood. He was twice married and divorced but found his tribe with his stepdaughter, Strawberry Fields, her partner James Baldwin, and their children Hailey, Jacob, and Olivia Baldwin with whom he lived until he passed. He was an amazing “grandfather” to the three kids, and he was happiest when he was spending time with them. Mike will be fondly remembered for his unique and creatively worded stories, his dry wit, his hilarious sense of humor, his sharp mind, and his kind smile. He touched the hearts of many while he was with us, and we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. 

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his parents and stepparents, Michael Henry Ochs and his wife Mary Ellen of Pawnee, Illinois; Lenora Kay Brown and her husband Dave of Morrisonville, Illinois; his two sisters and their spouses, Marla Kay (Ochs) Rhutasel and her husband Lance of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jessica Lyn (Brown) Armentrout and her husband David of Morrisonville, Illinois; his two nieces, Sabrina Rhutasel and Josie Armentrout; his two nephews, Aiden Rhutasel and Mack Armentrout; his beloved chihuahua, Mort, and the rest of his extended family.

Janice Franklin Sloan, of Danville, passed away on January 15, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old. 

She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, James Joseph (“JJ”) Sloan, and by their six children: Suzanne (Morey-Sloan); Colleen (Jones), Michael, Gregory, Thomas, and Patricia; as well as her three sisters: Barbara Franklin and Phyllis Bloome, both of Morrisonville, and Kay Franklin, of Estes Park, Colorado. She is also survived by 8 beloved grandchildren: Meredith, Melissa, Siobhan, Rhiannon, Lukas, Mathilde, Ash, and Carolina; and one great-grandchild, Sloan.

Janice was born January 2, 1937, in Taylorville, to Lowell and Ina Mae (Deal) Franklin, and raised on the family farm. As a young girl, Janice attended Cottonwood Grade School, a one-room country school near Morrisonville, and later Morrisonville High School, graduating in 1954. After high school, she attended the University of Illinois for a year, taking courses in Home Economics. She later worked for Gilbert Large Chevrolet in Taylorville. At twenty, she became engaged to her high school sweetheart, James, who was enlisted in the Marine Corps and stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Clemente, California. After a four month engagement, the couple were married at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in San Clemente on April 20, 1957. For the rest of her life, Janice reminisced about their wonderful “extended honeymoon” in California. 

After James was honorably discharged from the Marines a few years later, the couple moved to Springfield, where they welcomed their first four children. After settling permanently in Danville in 1966, Janice and Jim had two more children. While her husband started his own insurance adjustment business, Janice worked tirelessly to raise their children, four of whom were born before her twenty-fifth birthday! Janice spent fifty-three years of her life in Danville, devoting all of her time to her husband and family. She and Jim were longtime parishioners of St. Paul’s Catholic Church; Janice found profound faith in the Church, prompting her conversion to Catholicism in 1970. At eighty, Janice discovered a newfound love of exercise, and took up gym workouts and daily, six-mile walks. Throughout her life, she remained in active communication with all of her children and grandchildren as they traveled and found homes in far-flung places. 

She will be remembered by those who loved her for her love of learning and literature, her wide knowledge of plants and flowers, her fondness for Colorado blue skies and purple mountains, her sharp wit and sense of humor, her tenacity, her love of babies and small children, and her compassion.

Visitation for Danville area friends will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61834.

Ardeth Buckmire, 90, of Taylorville, formerly of Champaign, passed away at 12:13a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Carriage Crossing Senior Living in Taylorville.  She was born on July 24, 1931 in Owaneco, the daughter of Loyd Sumner and Vemba Fern (Sturgeon) Buckmire.  Ardeth attended the Owaneco Grade School and graduated from Taylorville High School in 1949 where she participated in band playing the flute.

Following high school, she attended the Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign.  Upon receiving her nursing degree, she began working at the Burnham City Hospital in Champaign in the surgery department, a job she continued until her retirement.  She loved cats, especially Cali Rose, chocolate, traveling to various countries, and her family and friends.  

She is survived by her nieces: Philis Dale Riaska of Mesa, Arizona, Sharon Jamison (Mike), and Karen DeMichael both of Taylorville; nephews: Roger McLean of Ennis, Texas and Bruce Buckmire (Shelia Wareham) of Owaneco; great nieces: Lee Riaska of Mesa, Arizona, Susie McClure (Scott) and Michelle Jamison both of Taylorville; great nephews: Brent DeMichael (Stacey) of Kincaid and Shaun Vincent (Jennifer) of Maroa.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Vemba McLean; brothers: Philip Buckmire and Loyd Dale “L.D.” Buckmire; and nephew: David Buckmire.  

A funeral service for Ardeth will take place at 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. David A. Prater, 72 of Fillmore passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 12:45 a.m. at his home in Fillmore, IL. He was born on June 23, 1949 in Vandalia, IL the son of Norval and Wilda (Walker) Prater.

Myrna Rae Felix, 66 of Springfield passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at The Christian Village in Lincoln following years of living with Friedreich’s Ataxia disorder.  She was born on August 29, 1955 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Paul C. and Jacqueline (Kirk) Felix.  Myrna graduated from Taylorville High School in 1973 and was a graduate of Illinois State University.  She went on to earn a post-graduate degree in computer science and a master’s of English Literature from the University of Illinois.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Myrna previously worked for the Illinois Department of Revenue, Springfield Center for Independent Living, and wrote editorials for the State Journal-Register.  She loved literature and writing, especially poems.  She will be remembered by her infectious laugh and quick wit.  Myrna lived her entire life trying to help others, always wanting to make the world a better place.  She was a philanthropic person, giving to multiple causes.  She was an activist for many causes including helping those living with disabilities.  When her battle with her disorder caused her to need a home more suitable for her life, she teamed with Habitat for Humanity, to personally work towards the goal of a fully accessible home for herself.  The beauty of nature, especially flowers and trees, butterflies and hummingbirds, and pictures of the moon, was something she always appreciated.  The way in which Myrna lived her life is an inspiration to many, including her family.

She is survived by her father: Paul C. Felix (Sharon) of St. George, Utah; sisters: Kristi Tegge (Scott) of Geneva and Laurie Felix of Taylorville; nieces and nephews: Zachary Tegge (Katie), Jordan Hall (Garrett), and Cole Tegge; 1 great nephew and 3 great nieces: and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her mother: Jacqueline Felix, infant sister: Diana Anita Felix, and her beloved support dogs: Yoda and Sunshine, and cat: Tybalt.

Angela Sue Bell, 51 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on November 12, 1970 in Decatur, IL the daughter of James Robert and Marcia Ruth (Webber) Patton Sr. Angela worked at the Christian County Mental Health Work Shop for 26 years.
She is survived by her brothers: Michael Patton of Ohlman, IL, James Robert Patton Jr; Father James Robert Patton Sr. of Fillmore, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother.

Lester R. “Jim” Weeden, 80, of Pana, formerly of Taylorville, IL passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Pana Community Hospital in Pana, IL. He was born on September 4, 1941, in Taylorville, the son of Lester O. “Shorty” and Anna (Browning) Weeden.  Lester married Barbara A. Tolly on January 5, 1964 in Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2014.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the Sullivan DD537 and his memberships include the American Legion Post # 168 of Pana, IL and IBEW Local #1361. He was a mechanic at Commonwealth Edison in Kincaid, IL from February 27, 1968 until his retirement on December 11, 1995.
Lester is survived by his daughter: Wendy (Steve) Brookens of Taylorville, IL, Granddaughter: Hayden Baker of Taylorville, IL, Brother: Robert Weeden of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and Brother: Jackie Weeden

Antonia Verardi, 100 of Langleyville, passed away, surrounded by her family, at 6:50pm on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on April 6, 1921 in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Angelo and Celestina (Sebben) Andrighetti.  On February 9th, 1939 she married Andrew Verardi in St. Charles, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on January 17, 1972.  Antonia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.  She previously worked at the Kincaid dress factory and Sangamon Card Company.  Antonia enjoyed playing bingo and growing flowers.  She especially enjoyed sharing her Italian heritage through cooking many types of pasta and other dishes.  Most of all she loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Ron Verardi (Margaret) and Sharon Allen (Terry) both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Anthony Verardi (Stephanie) of Taylorville, Gina Torricelli (Steve) of Chatham, Nick Verardi (Jennifer) of Taylorville, Aaron Allen of Taylorville, and Kristy Doan (Jason) of Chatham; great grandchildren: Lauren Blakeman, Abby Siegrist, Luke Verardi, Gabe Verardi, Olivia Torricelli, Victoria Verardi, Vinny Verardi, Brody Doan, and Jackson Doan; 3 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Gretta Andrighetti; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Marilyn Eson, 68 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 12:55 a.m. at her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on November 16, 1953 in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of William Phillips and Annie Howard. She married Robert Wayne Eson on February 28, 1975 in Taylorville, IL and he preceded her in death in 1995. She worked as a housekeeper at Taylorville Memorial Hospital for 46 years when she retired in 2018. Marilyn was a very hard worker who enjoyed helping others as well as baking cookies and sharing them with her friends and family.

She is survived by her Son: Kevin Wayne Eson (Fiancé Rebecca); Grandchildren: Zaydin Eson, Neil Eson, Paige St. Clair and Garrett St. Clair all of Taylorville, IL.  Sisters: Alice Fevold of Pekin, IL, Brenda Grissom of Pekin, IL, Janet Mays of Springfield, IL and Sharon Thompson of Springfield, IL; Brothers: Terry Phillips of Springfield, IL, Larry Phillips of Taylorville, IL, Dean Phillips of Kincaid, IL and Randy Phillips of Springfield, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia Sue Huddleston, 81 of Palmer passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2021 at 8:45 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on October 22, 1940 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Guy Ballard and Virginia Dowdy. She married Cecil Leo Huddleston on January 28, 1967 in Taylorville, IL and he preceded her in death on October 27, 2006. Patty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville. She was a homemaker for many years while she raised her children. Her home was always welcoming to anyone.  She made everyone feel like family. Patty enjoyed cooking and took pride in her sparkling laundry. She loved her little home and was so thankful for God’s blessings. Her children always came first in her life and she admired her grandchildren. She was selfless, always willing to help others in need. She loved watching Christian speakers and listening to Christian music especially the Happy Goodmans and the Gaithers. She longed for her homecoming day with her daughter and husband. She put her faith in Jesus Christ and now she is finally Home!

Kenneth A. Rosenthal, 95, of Morrisonville, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Carriage Crossing in Taylorville.
 
Kenny was born September 6, 1926 in Edwardsville, the son of the late Arthur and Edna (Johnson) Rosenthal.  He moved to the Morrisonville area in 1936, and had lived there ever since.  Kenny graduated Valedictorian from Morrisonville High School in 1944.  He was an avid participant in school sports and activities, starring in basketball, baseball, and track.  Kenny was also Class President, Co-Editor of the Crest Yearbook, and an orator in the school’s literary competitions.  Upon graduation, he proudly served our country in the United States Navy Air Force.  Kenny married LaDonna Mae Bedinghaus on May 31, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Farmersville.  She preceded him in death on May 27, 2005, after nearly 57 years of marriage.

Kenny was a lifelong farmer.  He also worked for the State of Illinois, first as a driver’s license examiner in Pana, before retiring as Regional Administrator of Illinois Central Division of Meat-Poultry and Livestock Inspection.  He then went on to another full-time career as a Crop Adjustor Supervisor for Country Companies, where he retired at the age of 87.  Kenny’s hard work and community mindedness continued within his community.  He was a faithful member of St. Maurice Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Post 1151.  Kenny wore many other hats in his community, such as a member of the American Legion Post 721 where he held several different offices, Community Club, V.F.W. Post 4495 in Taylorville, as well as a former Village Trustee.  He will be best remembered for his commitment to education and youth sports.  Kenny served as a school board member for Morrisonville District #1 for 20 years, past president of the Abraham Lincoln Division of School Boards for 7 years, and the official time keeper for Mohawk Basketball for 27 years.  He was instrumental in starting the Morrisonville American Legion youth baseball league.  His commitment to young people did not go unnoticed.  Kenny was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002.  He was an avid bowler, and sports fan, especially loving the St. Louis Cardinals, Rams, and Fighting Illini.

He was also preceded in death by his daughters, Carolyn Rosenthal and Donna Elmore; and infant twin great granddaughters.

Kenny is survived by his children, Wayne (Marcia) Rosenthal of Morrisonville, David (Kathy) Rosenthal of Taylorville, Diana (Allyn) Braun of Edgerton, WI, Nancy (Jeff) Hessel of Edwardsville, Angela (John) Christian of Taylorville, and Jon (Phyllis) Rosenthal of Morrisonville; son-in-law, Jim Elmore of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 3 more on the way; brother, Shirlen Rosenthal of Raymond; and several nieces and nephews.

Danny Jay Nation, 53 of Taylorville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at 7:30pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  He was born on February 12, 1968 in Taylorville, the son of William E. and Sheila A. (Denning) Nation.  Danny worked as an over-the-road truck driver for over 30 years.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.  Danny loved spending time with his family and will be remembered for his sense of humor, especially the jokes he enjoyed telling.

 
He is survived by his long-time companion: Lesa Newkirk; parents: Bill and Sheila Nation of Taylorville; siblings: Steve (Renee) Nation of Keller, Texas, Mike (Aggie) Nation of Fort Worth, Texas, Bill (Debbie) Nation of Granite City, Eric Nation of Bedford, Texas, John (Caroline) Nation of Fort Worth, Texas, Melanie (Don) Prachel of Winter Springs, Florida, Crystal Nichols of Taylorville, and Jaime (John) Doolin of Decatur; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Elwood and Rose Denning and Evert and Rita Nation.

William R. “Bill” Everett, 82, of Owaneco, IL, formerly of Strasburg, IL, went home to Heaven at 8:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

    Bill was born on January 31, 1939 at home in Strasburg, IL, the son of Loren and Vera (Fluke) Everett.  He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1957.  Bill began working as a cabinet maker.  He later worked as a machinist for American Brass in Mattoon, then as a self-employed carpenter at Everett Construction and was always a farmer.  He married his high school sweetheart, Jana Lee Stierwalt on December 10, 1959.  Bill was a former member of the Washington United Methodist Church near Strasburg and currently attended Way of Life Church in Taylorville, IL.  He loved to sing and was a member of the Coles County Barbershop Chorus. Bill served on the Board of Directors for the Mode Camp in Mode, IL.  He enjoyed working on the farm, woodworking, caring for his animals, gardening, sharing his faith with anyone he met and spending time with his grandchildren.   On May 24, 1997, Bill married Jane Elaine (Shuler) McLaughlin.

    He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter, Dorinda Everett of Salem, IL; step-children, Chad McLaughlin (Kelly) of Owaneco, IL, Michael McLaughlin (Krissy) of East Peoria, IL and Mandy Boehler (Dave) of Owaneco, IL; brother, Jim Everett of Shelbyville, IL; sister Melba Talbott of Wildwood, MO; and six grandchildren, Mikayla Brown (Michael), Briar McLaughlin, Will Boehler, Abby Boehler, Hadley McLaughlin and Grayson McLaughlin.

Norman Gene Huddlestun, 86 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10:05 a.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on January 5, 1936 in LaGrange, IL the son of Wilbert Eli and Elsie Melvina (Jackson) Huddlestun. He married Nancy M. Graham on March 27, 1968 in Langleyville, IL and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2015. Gene worked as a Machinist at Wagner Castings where he retired. He was especially grateful to David and Amy Graham for always taking care of him.

He is survived by his brothers: Junior, Wes and Gary Huddlestun, his Sister Diane Huddlestun and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, son: Norman, daughter: Brenda, grandson: Zachary, siblings: Alvin, Alfred, Alvena, Delbert, Shirley, Mabel, Varlin, Larry and David.   

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2021 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.

Dawn A. Ray, age 50 of Golden, MO., formerly of Kincaid, IL., passed away
Dec. 31, 2021 in Springfield, MO.

She is survived by her mother and step-father, Carol and Patrick Shields, 
her loving fiancé, Tim Jacob and his family.  Also surviving are her sister,
Gina Shellenbarger, brother, Erik Ray and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dawn was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Ray and both maternal
and paternal grandparents.

At this time her memorial service  is undetermined.

Lisa Ann Cunitz, 58 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2021 at her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on August 13, 1963 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of George and Doris (Lukach) Cunitz.  Lisa was a waitress and cleaned homes for several people over the years.

She is survived by her Mother: Doris Cunitz of Taylorville, IL, Brothers: Scott (Christine) Cunitz, Eric Cunitz and George William Cunitz II, Nephews: Richard Scott (Brittany) Cunitz Jr., Randy Cunitz, Niece: Erica Cunitz, Uncle Frank (Phyllis) Lukach, Aunt: Donna Dance and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lisa will be cremated and the family will have a memorial service followed by inurnment in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL, at a later date.

Genevieve Ryan passed away in her sleep on Thursday, December 30, 2021 in Taylorville, IL. Genny was born near Edinburg, IL in July of 1923 to August “Gus” Prasun and Corrine McIntire Prasun. Her childhood was spent in a farm near Willeys Station. After graduating from Taylorville High School, she worked at the Illiopolis Ammunition Plant during WWII. Then, in 1944 she married Albert Ryan and the two of them farmed and raised a family together in the Blue Mound, IL area.

Genny loved everything about farm life. She worked in the field, hauled grain, gardened and raised chickens. After Albert’s death in 1989, Genny moved to Taylorville, but remained active by hauling grain for her son, Dan, for a number of years. A country girl at heart, she loved to be outside as much as possible, maintaining her lawn, planting flowers and tending to the birds until age 97.

Genny will be remembered by family and friends as fiercely independent, hardworking, creative, and easy to make laugh. She was an excellent seamstress, a good cook, a dog lover and above all else proud of her family, Donna Ryan (Ed Gehlbach), Dorrine Neal (Ron), Dan Ryan (Debbie), Denise Blakeman (Mike) and Della Peck (Dwight), 10 grandkids, and their spouses, 20 great-Grandkids and 4 great great grandkids.

Genny was preceded in death by her two brothers, Paul and Leo Prasun, and Albert’s sisters, Catherine Brunner, and Elizabeth Forbes, but she leaves behind an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews from both the Prasun and Ryan sides of the family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Taylorville Estates for the extraordinary car that Genny received during her stay there.

MacKenzie J. Brion, 28 of Mt. Zion, formerly of Taylorville, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.  He was born on December 29, 1993 in Decatur, the son of Jeremy and Penney (Allen) Brion.  MacKenzie graduated from Taylorville High School.

He lived a fearless life and loved spending time outdoors.  He enjoyed mud trucks, spending time at the lake and fishing.  MacKenzie will be remembered by his smile and his outgoing personality.  He truly cared about others and their feelings and never knew a stranger.  Above all he loved his family, especially his brother.  

He is survived by his father: Jeremy Brion (Christi) of Mt. Zion; mother: Penney Domonousky (Nate) of Taylorville; son: Kannon Brion; brother: Laken Brion of Mt. Zion; stepbrother: Cody Coffman of Mt. Zion; grandparents: Donna and William Weiser of Taylorville, Susan Brion of Mt. Zion, Judy Brion of Macon, and Jack Allen of Kenney; nephew: Jacob Shehadah of Taylorville; girlfriend: Taeloree Teel of Cameron, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by grandmother: Linda Allen; grandfather: Leon Brion; and great grandmother: Patricia Goodspeed.

The funeral for MacKenzie will take place at 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Visitation will be from 5:00pm until the time of the service at 7:00pm. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund for his son, Kannon.
