Merle Dean Tish of Decatur

Merle Dean Tish, 83, of Decatur, IL passed away July 28, 2013 at 8:11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. He was born March 22, 1930 in St. Elmo, IL. The Son of Pearl and Irma (Larimore) Tish. He married Shirley Smith on September 20, 1953 in Harvel, IL and she preceded him in death on March 10, 1986 and he later married Norma Buttolph on December 5, 2010 in Decatur, IL. He was retired truck driver and an avid Cardinals Fan. He was also a member of South Shores Christian Church in Decatur.

He is survived by his Wife: Norma; Daughters: Cathy (Jake) Jarrett of Chatham, IL; Penny (Mike) Burdinsky Springfield, IL; Grandchildren: Gretchen Jarrett of Springfield, IL; Heidi Jarrett of Chatham, IL; Sisters: Catherine Miller of Decatur, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, First Wife, Sister, and Brother, granddaughter

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Steve Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 5:00-8:00pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Robert V. Tarbuck of Minier

Robert V. Tarbuck, 55, of Minier, IL, died at 5:40 pm Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Heartland Healthcare, Normal, IL.

He was born December 1, 1957 in Westchester, PA, the son of Robert Raymond and Gloria Fay Simpson Tarbuck.  Mr. Tarbuck was a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are his parents of Minier, IL, Son: Robert Raymond Tarbuck II of Coatsville, PA, Sisters: Diane Annie Tarbuck and Barbara Tarbuck of Minier, IL, and former wife Connie Francisco of Berwyn, PA.

Private Services for Mr. Tarbuck will be held at a later date in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.

Jean E. Turvey of Taylorville

Jean E. Turvey, 82, of Taylorville, IL died at 10:45 pm Friday, July 26, 2013 at Taylorville Care Center. 

She was born January 15, 1931 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Omer D. and Velma L. Pierce Hadsall.  On September 28, 1951 she married Harry M. Turvey in Baltimore, MD.  Mrs. Turvey had been employed in the Radiology Department of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She retired in 2000 with over 50 years of service.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her husband Harry M. Turvey of Taylorville, Daughter: Susan Province and husband Bryan of Peoria, Grandchildren Aaron Province and Anna Province both of Peoria, and a brother Lyle Danenberger and wife Kay of Springfield.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother Charles Hadsall.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Grote officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, July 29 at McClure Funeral Home.

Louise Smith of Nokomis

Louise Smith, 95, of Nokomis, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 5:47 p.m. at Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nokomis. She was born March 29, 1918 in Taylorville, IL. The Daughter of Elmer and Winnie Olinger Babbs. She married Clifford Smith in January of 1938 in Stonington, IL and he later preceded her in death on December 7, 1999. She retired from Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and was a house wife.

She is survived by her Sons: James (Betty) Smith of Oconee; Wendell (Jane) Smith of Ohlman, IL; Richard (Judy) Smith of Nokomis, IL; Carl (Darline) Smith of Ogden, UT.; Robert (Paula) Smith of Pana, IL; Daughters: Pam (Robert) Thull of Independence, MO.; Sharon (Rex) Warren of Petersburg, IL; Twenty-Two Grandchildren; Two Step-Grandchildren; Thirty-Five Great-Grandchildren; Five Step-Great-Grandchildren; Four Great-Great- Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son Joseph, Daughter Patricia Ann, Great-Grandsons Garett Smith, Danny Smith, and Carson McKay. Great-Great Grand daughters Ruth Jones, 6 Brothers.

Terry E. McClard of Taylorville

Terry E. McClard, 65, of Taylorville, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Surrounded by his family. He was born on December 12, 1947 in Taylorville, IL. The Son of Marshall and Thelma (Yockey) McClard. He married Gloria VanHooser on September 16, 1967 in Taylorville, IL. He retired from maintenance at Dominion Energy, and was a member of the National Model Railroad Association and B&O Historical Society. He was a huge train fan and an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He also enjoyed going to all of the grandkids activities and antiquing with his buddy, Jimmy. Terry collected Stamps, Coca Cola memorabilia and coins.

He is survived by his Wife: Gloria; Son: Jeffrey McClard of New York City, NY.; Daughters: Tammy (Jeff) Scott of Taylorville, IL; Terra (Jim) Dunkirk of Taylorville, IL; Jenny (Fiance Luke Cummins) McClard of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Zachary Donaldson, Justin Dunkirk, Ryan Donaldson, Kamelita Dunkirk, Preston Scott, Austin Dunkirk, Taylor Donaldson, Brynn Cummins, Johnathan Scott, Henley Cummins; Great-Grandson: Rylen Donaldson; Brother: Daryl (Joy) McClard of Edwardsville, IL; Sister: Sheila (Kirk) Johnson of Springfield, TN.; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Glenna M. Passoni of Taylorville

Glenna M. Passoni, 87, of Taylorville, IL died at 8:03 am Monday, July 22, 2013 at Taylorville Care Center.

 

She was born August 11, 1925 in Taylorville the daughter of Glen E. and Stella M. Beeson Barding. She first married Virgil Munson July 19, 1941 in St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1953. Then on March 11, 1956 she married Reno Passoni in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2007. Mrs. Passoni had been employed at Lee’s Department Store in Taylorville and later was employed by the City of Taylorville.

 

She is survived by Daughter-in-law: Darla F. Munson of Taylorville; 2 Step Daughters: Margie Taylor of Ft. Worth, TX and Gloria Twitty of Nokomis; Grandson: Brian Paul Munson of Taylorville and Granddaughters: Susan M. Hall and husband Jared and Dana Jo Munson all of Taylorville. There are 4 Great Grandchildren: Ashlee Lamb, Colton Lamb, Dakota Hall, and Brady Hall. Also surviving are 9 Step Grandchildren, 19 Step Great Grandchildren, and 1 Step Great-great Grandchild. There are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, Son, Wayne Munson, 3 Brothers: Glen Barding, Earl Barding, and Ronald Barding.

 

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL with Rev. Jim Wolfe officiating. There will be no visitation. McClure Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Robert H. Garwood of Stonington

Robert H. Garwood, 83, of Stonington, IL died at 10:35 pm Monday, July 15, 2013 at his residence 

He was born July 2, 1930 in Decatur, IL the son of Harry L. and Corinne L. Siehr Garwood. On September 7, 1952 he married Mildred Brown at Old Stonington Baptist Church. Mr. Garwood was a farmer, and a member of Old Stonington Baptist Church, Christian County Farm Bureau and the Old Stonington Cemetery Board of Directors.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Garwood of Stonington; Daughters: Joan Bohnhoff and husband Kent of Bloomington, Janet Cook and husband Dumont, and Jill Spengler and husband Dave all of Stonington. Grandchildren: Kyle Bohnhoff and wife Allie, Olivia Bohnhoff, Kayla Reinebach and husband Brent, and Kurtis Spengler. Great Grandson: Hayden Williams. Sister: Jean Callan of Stonington. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandchild Joel Bohnhoff in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Old Stonington Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Lohr officiating. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, July 22 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville and one hour prior to services in the church on Tuesday.

Izola M. Law of Taylorville

Izola M. Law, 75, of Taylorville, passed away July 16, 2013 at 8:55 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. She was born May 23, 1938 in Ramsey, IL. The Daughter of Fred and Velma (Cearlock) Stout. She married Duane Law on December 20, 1969 in Ramsey, IL. She worked as a Home health care giver and a stay at home Mom.

She is survived by her Husband: Duane; Sons: Richard (Rachael) Law of Campus, IL; Tracy (Lisa) Law of Raymond, IL; Daughters: Debbie (Jim) Kistler of Vandalia, IL; Denise Law of Kincaid, IL; Grandchildren: Ramie Carroll, Quinby Hawthorne, Zach Law, Schylur Zippay, Blake Law, Danielle Zippay, Jaxon Law, Dillon Law, Josh Law, Blake Patchett, Isaiah Law, Caden Law, Lily Law; Great-Grandchildren: Austin Carroll, Cori Carroll, Lucas Carroll, Lain Hawthorne; Sisters: Jo Ann Witt, Elsie Patrick and Pearl Lewis; several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents and Brother Frank Ishmael.

James A. Wicker of Taylorville

James A. Wicker, 47, of Taylorville, passed away on July 9, 2013 at 5:10 p.m. at his residence in Taylorville, IL. He was born November 29, 1965 in Pana, IL; the son of the late David Rightnowar and Sarah Stalllings. He married Terri Townsley on March 29, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was the owner and operator of Capital Trailer Repair in Springfield, IL. Jim loved his family, fishing and a hard day’s work. He loved life, and for the past four years battled cancer with dignity and selflessness. He was a hero to many and will continue to be an inspiration and a leader to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Wicker of Taylorville, IL; son: Devon Wicker of Springfield, IL; daughter: Ashley Wicker of Springfield, IL; grandchild; Madeline Wicker of Springfield, IL; brothers: Charles Wicker of Springfield, IL, Michael Wicker of Taylorville, IL and Robert Wicker of Butler, IL; sister: Susan Nance of Savannah, TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins.. He was preceded in death by his father, David Rightnowar.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Sutton Memorial Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Betty Lou Ganey of Taylorville

Betty Lou Ganey, 89, of Taylorville, IL died at 7:10 am Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the home of her Daughter, Bridget.

She was born January 21, 1924 in Taylorville the daughter of Charles and Lula Woodworth Jacobs.  On April 26, 1947 she married Ardel Ganey in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1984.  Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and retired in 1988 as a Staff person for the Illinois House of Representatives. 

Surviving are her children: James W. Ganey and wife Betsy of Indianapolis, IN, Bridget K. Ganey of Springfield, Heather E. Mills and husband Steve of Chatham, Kevin C. Ganey and Patrick S. Ganey and wife Sara all of Indianapolis, IN. There are 7 Grandchildren: Jake Phillips and wife Trisha of Springfield, Dr. Bridget Jones and husband Bryan of Springfield, Clark R. Mills of Chatham, Maggie Ganey, James Ganey, Sean Ganey and Mary Rose Ganey all of Indianapolis, IN.  4 Great Grandchildren: Kaylie Phillips, Keagan Phillips, Cole Phillips, and Camri Phillips all of Springfield.  Also surviving is a sister-in-law: Patricia Ganey of Moultrie, GA. There are several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 Brothers, James Jacobs in World War II and Dale Jacobs, and a sister Mildred Dougherty.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 12 at McClure Funeral Home with Fr. Zachary Edgar officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service in the funeral home on Friday.

Norma K. Reincke of Taylorville

Norma K. Reincke, 88, of Taylorville, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. She was born May 17, 1925 in Millersville, IL. The Daughter of Jesse and Lena (Cameron) Logue. She married Kenneth E. Reincke on April 4, 1945 in Ohlman, IL and he later preceded her in death on November 25, 2005. She was a retired homemaker and she held the fastest typing record at Cowden High school without any mistakes.

She is survived by her Son: Kenneth (Teresa) Reincke of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Judy (Robert) Keen of Taylorville, IL; Eight Grandchildren; Three Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She is Preceded in Death by her Parents, Husband and Grandson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Harley Petri officiating. Burial will be in Ohlman Cemetery in Ohlman, IL. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 10:00-11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Leland J. Sugar Summers of Jeisyville

Mr. Leland J. “Sugar” Summers, 86, of Jeisyville, IL, passed away at 5:21 pm Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. 

He was born in Makanda, IL July 20, 1926 the son of Lester Leland and Edna Marie (Holmes) Summers. Sugar married Phyllis J. Summers August 28, 1967 in Taylorville, IL. She preceded him in death September 22, 2010.

 

Sugar attended Kincaid Church of God. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater during W.W.II. Sugar worked 42 years in area coalmines retiring in December 1989 from Peabody Mine #10 near Pawnee. Mr. Summers was a member of the Kincaid American Legion, and U.M.W.A. Local #9819. He loved hunting, fishing, working on cars, playing guitar and singing, and spending time with his family.

 

Surviving is a daughter Lynda (Steve) Sparling of Hewittville, IL 3 sons Ronnie Summers and Craig (Marilyn) Summers of Jeisyville, IL and Keith (Linda) Summers of CA one brother Jimmy (Audrey) Summers of Rochelle, IL, along with 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis in 2010, and 2 brothers Richard and Charles Summers.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 12, 2013 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL. Pastor Michael Mayberry will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Thursday, July 11, 2013 in Masterson Funeral Home. Harold Raymond Friend of Owaneco

Harold Raymond Friend, 95, of Owaneco, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 1:15 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born October 5, 1917 in Stonington, IL the Son of Alfred Lee and Myrtle Claire (Peyton) Friend. He married Eva Edna Gilbert on September 7, 1946 in Maroa, IL and she later preceded him in death on April 7, 2010. He was a machine adjuster at Sangamon Paper Company for over 40 years. He served in the AAF 14th Ferrying Squad ATC, Air Operations Specialist Master Sergeant from January 21, 1942 to December 13, 1945. He was in the India-Burma Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Theater stationed in China. He served in the Air Force Reserves and returned during the Korean Conflict stationed at a radar base in the State of Washington 12/14/1948 to 9/22/1952.

He is survived by his Son: Harold Lee "Sandy" Friend of Owaneco; Daughters: Linda Prosperini of Taylorville, Colleen (husband Henry) Starling of Chatham, Terri (husband Maurice) Walker of Taylorville; Grandchildren: Michelle (husband Adam) Harden of Langleyville, Isaiah (Kasey) Walker of Taylorville, Caleb (Brittany) Walker of Taylorville, Amelia and Lucy Friend of Jeiseyville; Great-Grandchildren: Adam, Eden and Evie Harden, Natalia, Malachi, and Elijah Walker, and Ben and Reese Lynn Walker; Honorary Children; Christy (husband Mark) Calloway and Kylie Calloway; Angel Whittick; Niece: Carol Friend of Colorado; Great-Niece: Diane (Danny) Johnson of Indiana; Great-Nephews Mark (Eileen) Richards of Indiana, Kerwin (Candy) Law of Pana, IL, and Kevin (Rhonda) Law of Owaneco. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Brother: Glenn (Madge) Friend of Kansas; Sisters: Ruth (Merle) Law, Lois (Leroy) Speagle, and Twin-Sister Grace (Bruno) Tumiati all of Owaneco.

On July 12, 2013 visitation will be held from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. followed by A Celebration of Life at 6:30 p.m. at Owaneco United Methodist Church with Pastor Betty Coffey officiating. Burial will be in Owaneco Cemetery in Owaneco, IL.

Tom E. McMillan of Taylorville

Tom E. McMillan, 73 of Taylorville, IL passed away at 1:04 p.m. on June 30, 2013 at his residence. There will be a memorial service held at the First United Methodist Church on July 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Please join family and friends for a celebration of his life at the end of the memorial service. The celebration will be held in the basement of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville.

Carl Douglas Nolen of Taylorville

Carl Douglas Nolen, 89, of Taylorville formerly of Morrisonville, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 5:40 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born May 19, 1924 in Christian County, IL. The Son of John Riley and Willie Mae (Livingston) Nolen. He married Betty Edwards on March 31, 1946 at Blue Mound Christian Church and she later preceded him in death on April 29, 2004. He was a Carpenter, Electrician and Plumber, Later a Coal Miner at Freeman United Coal Company. He was a member of the Stonington Masonic Lodge 1066, Order of the Eastern Star, Medina White Shrine, Scribe Jeptha #75 Eagles, Ansar Shrine. He loved his dogs Abbey, Annie, and Zoe. When he was in school he ran a Ham radio and worked at the theater. He also loved to play pinochle and go to the Senior Citizens Center.

He is survived by hisSon: Richard Douglas (Shirley) Nolen of Wilton Manor, FL.; Daughter: Debra Rena LeFever of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Travis Nolen and Stephanie LeFever; Brothers: John Marshall Nolen of Stonington, IL; Kenneth Wayne Nolen of Blue Mound, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty.
