Raymond Allen Evans of Kincaid

Raymond "Ray" Allen Evans, 79, Local Businessman from Kincaid, IL passed away peacefully at his home at 5:43pm Wednesday, September 26, 2012.  He was born November 13, 1932 the son of Clarence and Neta (Jett) Evans in rural Greenville, IL. LaGrange Township.  He married Ava Jean Kimmerling in May, 1953 at Kincaid United Methodist Church.  He owned and operated Ray's Service Station and Garage for over 30 years, also the Kincaid Car Wash and Divernon Car Wash, and most recently operated Kincaid Food Mart.  He and his wife own The Country Place Antique Shop in Divernon.  He was affiliated with Midland United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion in Kincaid.

He is survuved by his wife of 59 years; daughter Denise; sons Kevin and John all of Kincaid; one grandson, 3 granddaughters, 2 great granddaughters; 2 sisters, Donna Rathbone of Sherman and Ann Gasser of Greenville; 2 brother-in-laws Marvin and Melvin (Ione) Kimmerling and several nieces, nephews and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Fae, Florine and Hazel and 3 brothers, Darrel, William and Ivan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid with Pastor Linda Vonck officiating.  Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery rural Edinburg.  Family and friends are invited to the American Legion in Kincaid for a dinner and fellowship following the funeral services.  Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday, September, 28, 2012 at Masterson Funeral Home.

Erma Helen Solomon of Moline

Erma Helen Solomon, 90, of Moline, IL. formerly of Taylorville passed away at 5:54pm, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.  She was born on Oct. 15, 1921 in Taylorville to Osmer and Iva Walker Gill.  She married Lloyd Dale Solomon in July, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Taylorville.  They celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing in March, 1999.  She was a lifelong member of First Baptist and served as a Sunday School teacher and deaconess.  Early in her career Erma received a beautician's certificated and she retired in 1981 as Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk for Christian County.  She was active in Lady Landowners of Christian County and the Christian County Extension activities.

She is survived by three daughters; Dottie Francine Solomon of Batavia, IL, Diane Marie Solomon of Brookfield, WI. and Carol Bentsen and husband Perry of Moline; 4 granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, September 28, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Steve Robinson officiating.  Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Sharpsburg.  Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of service in McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.

Jean Jackson of Taylorville

Ethel Jean Jackson, 63, of Taylorville, passed away at 5:55pm Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare in Springfield, IL.  She was born September 12, 1949 in Taylorville, IL. the daughter of Andrew and Ethel M. Moody Dencavage, Jr.  On June 10, 1967 she married Leroy Jackson in Taylorville and they were later divorced.  Jean retired in 2001 as a Corporate Specialist for the Secretary of States Office in Springfield after 34 years of service.  She also worked for the Macon Speedway for 20 Years, Landmark of Taylorville for 7 years and Fred Peters Financial for 2 years.  She enjoyed country music, NASCAR, collecting frogs, and listening to the band Antics.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; longtime good friend John Razmas; Special nieces Deb Jackson Krohe and husband Myles and Connie Emerson Westerbrook and husband Clyde; special friends, Brenda and Vince Weiman, Chet Allen, Sandy and Doug Miller and Linda Binger.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 29, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday, September 28, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.

Kenneth E. Gilpin of Taylorville

Kenneth E. Gilpin, 80, of Taylorville, passed away September 24, 2012 at 7:45pm at Heartland Care Center in Decatur.  He was born November 2, 1931 in Taylorville, IL. the son of Ambrose and Mary Ethel (Reed) Gilpin.  He married Jane Schnute in March, 1953 in Taylorville.  He was a retired Purchasing Agent and Transportation Coordinator at Wilkins Pipe and Supplies in Decatur.  He was a member of the Blue Mound Masonic Lodge 682 A.F. & A.M., Valley Springfield Consistory, Ansar Shrine, Past President of Decatur Shrine Club, Christian County Shrine Club, Shelby County Shrine Club, VFW Post 4495, American Legion Post 73 and the Purchasing Management Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters Diana McLemore of Taylorville, Carol Mulvain of Urbana and Cathy Kaigley of Dalton City; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kenny Gilpin; four brothers, Otis, Earl, Homer, and Ronnie Gilpin; two sisters, Mabel Church and Lillian Kester.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 11:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. David Anderson officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 10 - 11am with Masonic Rites at 10:45am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Susie J. Mahnke of Pana

Susie J. Mahnke, 67, of Pana, passed away September 22, 2012 at 7:10pm at her son's residence in Pana.  She was born April 16, 1945 in Pana, the daughter of Ferdinand P. and Beulah E. Koontz Hadowsky.  She married Wilbert "Whitey" Mahnke in February, 1980 in Effingham.  She was co-owner with her husband of Whitey's Lawn Service for 30 Years.  She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Pana.

She is survived by her husband; sons Larry Keith (Paula) Steele of Shelbyville and Matthew (special friend Tina Just) Mahnke of Pana; father, Ferd Hadowsky of Pana; sisters, Pat Clutter of Pana, Sharon (Mike) Stortzum of Gays, and Mary Rhodes of Pana; brothers, Steve "Smokey" Hadowsky of Pana and Jan Hadowsky of Pana; and 2 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother and brother Fred.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September, 26, 2012 at 10:30am at Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home in Pana with Rev. Don Pease officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery Christian County.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 5-8pm at Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home in Pana.

Dorothy Lucille Hurtte of Taylorville

Dorothy Lucille Hurtte, 95, of Taylorville passed away at 8:35am Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born May 21, 1917 in Oglesby, the daughter of Joseph John and Mary Helen Nadolny Chlebus.  She married Rayford C. Hurtte in April, 1940 in Taylorville.  They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this year.  Mrs. Hurtte was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband; son, Jim Hurtte and wife Donna of Evansville, IN.; 2 daughters:  Judy A. Pittenger and husband Dan of Richfield, WI. and Janet R. Nash and husband Jim of Decatur, IL.; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joseph Chlebus, Jr. and sisters, Cecelia Dunn and Frances Bertant.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Monday, September 24, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Alan Hunter officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00pm-6:00pm Sunday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with a prayer service at 3:45pm.

Velma Becker of Taylorville

Velma Becker, 91, of Taylorville, passed away September 16, 2012 at 9:07pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.  She was born May 6, 1921 in Lake Springs, MO., the daughter of Wesley and Sarah (Worley) Paul.  She married Eugene L. Becker in July, 1940 in Troy, MO.  He preceded her in death in March, 2004.  She was a retired homemaker, member of Taylorville Christian Church, PTA Past President, and Navy Mothers Clubs of America.

She is survived by sons; Dale (Veronica) Becker of Vienna, VA., Jim Becker of Pensacola, FL. & John Becker of Springfield:  daughters; Carolyn (Bob) Borowiak of Lincoln, Connie (Phil) Lynch of Taylorville, Barb (Jed) Ferguson of Plano, TX. and Donna Radzimanowsky and companion John Tilton of Taylorville; 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, sister, Agnes Wells of Taylorville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded by her parents, husband, son, Roger "Gipper" Becker; 1 grandson,2 daughters-in-law and 2 brothers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Gwen Unser of Morrisonville

Gwen Unser, 92, of Morrisonville, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012.  The Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville is in charge of arrangements.

Francis L. Hudson of Taylorville

Francis L. Hudson, 89, Taylorville, passed away September 8, 2012 at 8:00pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.  He was born December 27, 1922 in Mulberry Grove, the son of George M. and Clara F. (Demoulin) Hudson.  He married Merza Pauline Dothager in August, 1945 in Mulberry Grove.  He was a retired Southern Baptist Minister.  He was a minister for fifty-five years and a member of the Taylorville Southern Baptist Church.

He is survived by son, dennis (Vicky) Hudson of Kincaid; daughter, Karen (William) Voyles of Assumption; 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by parents, wife and daughter, Patty.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 10:00am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Philip Neumann assisted by Pastor Jim Augenstein officiating.  Burial will be in Noffsinger Cemetery in Mulberry Grove with military honors.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 4-8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Wanda E. Best of Taylorville

Wanda E. Best, 89, of Taylorville, passed away September 4, 2012 at 10:04pm in Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Taylorville.  She was born July 31, 1923 in Edinburg, the daughter of Dewey and Hattie (Flemming) Perrine.  She married Raymond H. Best in March, 1942 in Monroe, MO.  He preceded her in death in July, 1970.  She was a retired waitress and member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Jane Best of Taylorville; 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice (Dean) Gensler of Tuscola and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Raymond Keith Best, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 9:30am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Steve Switzer officiating.  Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery in Palmer.  Visitation will be held Friday, September, 7, 2012 from 4-8pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Debbie Speagle of Owaneco

Debbie Speagle, 56, of Owaneco, passed away September 4, 2012 at 5:45am at Prairie Rose Health Care Center in Pana.  She was born April 8, 1956 in Taylorville, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy Garrett Speagle.  She was employed at the Christian County Mental Health Workshop in Taylorville.

She is survived by her mother; brothers, Daniel (Mary) Speagle of Owaneco and David (Michelle) Speagle of Taylorville; special buddy "Aunt Pat" and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father Donald and sister, Denise Longtin.

Graveside rites will be held Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Owaneco Cemetery in Owaneco.  Visitation will be held Thursday, September from 11am -1pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Earl W. Simmons Sr. of Taylorville

Earl W. Simmons Sr., 73, of Auburn, passed away September 1, 2010 at 2:20 a.m. at his residence. He was born February 14, 1939 in Harvel, IL., the son of Sam and Estella Parish Simmons. He married Alice Wright on November 29, 1958 at Calvary Baptist Church, Taylorville. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of the United Mine Workers Association.

He is survived by wife: Alice, mother: Estella Simmons of Pana, Son: Earl Wayne (Jill) Simmons Jr. of Taylorville, daughters: Susan (Harry) Harter of IN; Rose Beaston of Mt. Sterling, IL; Linda (David) Loyd of Mt. Auburn, brothers: Howard (Shirley) Simmons of Blue Mound; Hershell (Yvette) Simmons of Xenia; Harold (Inge) Simmons of Oconee; Dale (Vicki) Simmons of Mt. Auburn; Merle (Cindy) Simmons of Mt. Auburn, 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father.

No funeral services are planned. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 6-8pm at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Cremation will be accorded.
