Nina Blackburn

Nina Blackburn, 91 of Heyworth, IL formerly of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 12:50 a.m. in her home in Heyworth, IL. She was born on December 23, 1928 in Robinson, IL the daughter of Paul Hill and Dorlis (Jenkins) Drygalski. She married Johnnie Loren Blackburn on November 2, 1947 in Olney, IL. Nina worked as a cosmetologist, artist, poet, author and homemaker. She was a member of the United Church of Heyworth in Heyworth, IL.
She is survived by her sons: John D. (Barbara) Blackburn of Lincoln, IL; David B. (Trish) Blackburn of Edmond, OK; daughter: Linda Vonck of Heyworth, IL; fifteen grandchildren; nany great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Lana L. Kazenski and granddaughter: Lisa Kazenski.  
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

John E. Forbes

John E. Forbes, 92, formerly of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.


John was born September 23, 1927 in Morrisonville, the son of Elmer and Vera Mae (Swinger) Forbes.  He graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1945, and married Elizabeth Ann Ryan on January 9, 1949 at the Fairview Church.  She preceded him in death on January 26, 2011.  John then married Patricia Wallace on December 2, 2017 in Taylorville.

John farmed most of his life, raising hogs and milking cows as well as custom baling and lime spreading.  He also worked for Allis Chalmers in Springfield, Louis Marsch, Firestone in Decatur, Peabody coal mine, Christian County Highway Department, and Illinois Department of Transportation. He drove a school bus for Morrisonville School District. After farming, he was the owner operator of Forbes Trucking and later drove for Sorrells Farm Supply in Raymond.  Upon retirement, John worked for Perfetti Funeral Home driving the funeral coach and portered cars for Bob Ridings.  There were many jobs over the course of his life that required his expertise.

 

John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville, Midwest Truckers, a lifetime member of the Morrisonville Masonic Lodge, and a past volunteer at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He enjoyed raising Shetland ponies, attending parades, and playing marbles with his grandchildren.  

 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Chuck Forbes; infant son, Johnny Ray Forbes; great granddaughter, Kiley Beckmier; daughter-in-law, Jan Forbes; and sisters, Ruth Fleigle and Norma Bryan.

John is survived by his wife, Pat Forbes of Springfield, IL; sons, Mark (wife, Deb) Forbes of Morrisonville, and Bryan (wife, Patti) Forbes of Mahomet; daughters, Ronda (husband, John) Carl of Glendale Heights, and Kathy (husband, Dennis) Beckmier of Humboldt; daughter-in-law, Jackie Forbes of Vandalia; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546.

 

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville with Rev. Dayle Badman officiating.

 

Interment will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Constance "Connie" Sue Higgason

Constance “Connie” Sue Higgason, 60 of Pawnee passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 6:38 a.m. in her home in Pawnee, IL. She was born on June 16, 1959 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Wayne and Beulah (McMillen) Durbin Sr. She married Terry “Butch” Higgason on July 10, 1976 in the Pawnee Catholic Church in Pawnee, IL. Connie worked as an assistant director/teacher at various daycare centers. She loved spending time with family, above all she loved spending time with her husband. She loved animals especially her three dogs Babo, Sadie and Maggie.


She is survived by her Husband: Terry Higgason of Pawnee, IL; Sons: Mike Higgason of Pawnee, IL; Jesse (Amber) Higgason of Springfield, IL; Granddaughter: Vanessa Higgason of Springfield, IL; Mother: Beulah Durbin; Brothers: Chris (Lori) Durbin of Morrisonville, IL; Tim (Tammy) Durbin of Stonington, IL; Sister: Sandy Rohdeman of Auburn, IL; Sisters-in-Law: Jan (Don) Deacon of Florida; Barb (Dan) Courier of Florida; Marilyn (John) Meikle of Florida, Patty Gresta of Rochester, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles. Robert D. Fleming, Jr.

Robert D. Fleming, Jr., 67, of Taylorville, passed away at 8:05 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by family.


Bob was born August 21, 1952, in Decatur, IL, the son of Robert D. and Maureen (Lucas) Fleming, Sr.  He married Helga L. Wilson on February 25, 2005, in Decatur, IL, and they enjoyed over 15 years of marriage.


Bob graduated from high school in Coshocton, OH in 1970.  Prior to this, he was an excellent multi-sport athlete in the Taylorville School District.  He was recently honored by the Taylorville Quarterback Club for his athletic achievements.  Bob was a Chief Underground Engineer at Peabody #10 and Freeman Crown #2 and #3 coal mines before his retirement.  He then worked for Wal-Mart for 8 years before retiring for good.  In 1978, Bob went to Beaver, OK and won the World Championship of Cow Chip Throwing.  The records he set there were featured in the 1980 Guinness Book of World Records.  Bob was proud to hand out his business card proving his accomplishments. He could always be found watching a western, loving on his dogs, and rooting on the San Francisco Giants and Fighting Illini.  Out of all of Bob’s accomplishments and hobbies, nothing made him happier than the time spent with his children and grandchildren.  Being a grandpa was his greatest joy.    

  
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deborah Stivers; brother-in-law, Michael Sanders; and an infant granddaughter.


Bob is survived by his wife, Helga Fleming of Taylorville, IL; children, Douglas Felice of Salt Lake City, UT, Johanna (husband, Andy) Barraco of Salt Lake City, UT, Dave (wife, Juletta) Ellis of Pana, IL, Amanda (fiancé, Danny Klay) Ellis of Taylorville, IL, and Lacy (husband, Andrew) Ford of Mt. Zion, IL; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Kathy (husband, Dean) Ray, Suzzy Cocagne, and Marty Sanders, all of Taylorville, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


The memorial ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, and the visitation will follow the ceremony until 6:00 p.m. at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Don Bettis officiating.

Gary Glen Best

Mr. Gary Glen Best, 55, of Tovey, IL passed from this life at 12:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 at Eastview Terrace, Sullivan, IL.  He was born in Arlington Heights, IL February 2, 1964 the son of Henry “Pick” and Rosalie (Hardt) Best.  Gary had worked as a Union Laborer at the Com Ed / Dynergy Power Plant, Kincaid Generation Station.  He was a friend to everyone he ever met.  Surviving are a daughter Kylie Best of Danville, IL a son Dustin Martin of Langleyville, IL a sister Carol Kohler of Tovey, IL a brother Robert Best of Palatine, IL along with nieces, nephews and a huge host of friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, a sister and a grandson Payton.  As per Gary’s wishes, no services will be held and cremation rites have been accorded.  Masterson Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Kincaid has been entrusted with his care.  Please visit his on-line obituary at www.mastersonfh.com to leave condolences which will be printed and given to his family.  
 

Shirley Shafer Davis

Shirley Shafer Davis, 87, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville.


Shirley was born June 18, 1932 in Taylorville, the daughter of Joseph and Genevieve (Shaw) Shafer.  She was a graduate of Taylorville High School and went on to the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology, to become a lab technician.  Shirley married Paul Layzell in July of 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1970.  Paul and Shirley had two daughters, Lori Layzell Davis and Lisa Layzell Wise.  She married Richard Davis on April 28, 1973, and as her mother, Gen said, “Richard was the perfect person to spend the rest of her life with,” and she was absolutely right.


Shirley was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville, and she lived her faith with a quiet grace and dignity.  She worked for several years at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville, and loved her work in the lab.  Shirley cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Morgan and Eric.


Shirley is survived by her husband, Richard Davis of Taylorville; daughter, Lori Davis of Ashevile, NC; step-son, John (wife, Kim) Davis of Mesa, AZ; son-in-law, Todd Wise of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Morgan and Eric Wise; brother, Joseph Charles (wife, Lan) Shafer of Higley, AZ; brother-in-law, William Davis of Taylorville; and sister-in-law, Linda Shafer of Taylorville.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lisa Wise; sister, Jo Ann O’Brian; and brother, James Shafer.


Shirley taught her daughters that, “To have a good friend, you must be a good friend.” Shirley lived that truth, and her life was filled with wonderful friends whom she treasured.

Margaret Hope Moseley

Margaret Hope Moseley of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on December 24, 2019 in Logansport, Indiana. 


Margaret was born October 2, 1944 in Olney, Illinois to Loren and Helen (Colclasure) Petty.  She married Donnell Ray Moseley on June 20, 1965, in Clay City.  He preceded her in death on October 28, 2009.  She was a devoted mother to three daughters and “Nana” to eleven grandchildren.  Margaret graduated from Clay City High School, and she received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and master’s degree from Murray State University.  She taught for 36 years at Taylorville High School, where she served as the co-chair of the English department.  She retired from teaching in 2002, and she remains loved and respected by students and colleagues alike.  Margaret moved to Springfield in 2015, where she became active in West Side Christian Church and the Springfield chapter of PEO.  Margaret also enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, reading and traveling.


Surviving are her daughters: Stephanie Moseley of Taylorville, Danielle Hayes of Logansport, IN, (husband Jeffery) and Lenee Lucas of Springfield (husband Blake); grandchildren Hadassah, Moriah, Elijah, Micaiah, Hannah, Jeremiah, Zephaniah and Havilah Hayes; and Roslyn, Leo and Juliet Lucas; sisters, Lorena Pope of Mattoon and Barbara Helpingstine of Salem.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.


Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Jeffery Hayes officiating.  Private burial will take place in Clay City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, January 3 in the funeral home.

Duane "Biggen" Steele

Duane “Biggen” Steele, 84 of Palmer passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at 8:46 a.m. at his home in Palmer, IL. He was born on August 25, 1935 in Palmer, IL the Son of Joseph and Laura (Waddle) Steele Sr. He married Lenora Montgomery on June 23, 1969 in Alton, IL. Biggen loved gardening and playing the teletrack. He loved his morning coffee, talking, telling stories and sharing pictures at Arby’s. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the social media before social media. Biggen was a Bear creek Township Board Trustee for over 50 years was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and he retired from Peabody Mine # 10.  


He is survived by his Wife: Lenora Steele of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Gerri (Keith) Conrath of Taylorville, IL; Cathy Lee and Companion Mike Miller of Auburn, IL; Vicki (Ted) Charles of Riverton, IL; Krystal Steele and Companion Steve Lopez of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Sixteen Grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; Son-in-Law: Wes Streight of Raymond, IL; Sister-in-Law: Jean Steele of Palmer, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lavon Streight and brothers: Clifford Steele, Glenn “Buzz” Steele, Joe Steele Jr.

Tom Alan Bilyeu

Tom Alan Bilyeu “T.A.”, 75 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 4:16 p.m. in his daughters’ home in Springfield, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 16, 1944 in Taylorville, IL the son of Keith W. and Betty J. (Sams) Bilyeu. He married Barbara Sue Wingler on September 29, 1974 at Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2006. He was retired from the State of Illinois Secretary of State. Tom loved the outdoors, planting gardens and picking his fruit trees and raspberries. He was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt for mushrooms in the spring and fall. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and was a troop leader for several years.


He is survived by his daughters: Taunya M. (Kurt) Henke; Melissa J. Bilyeu and Alecia (Randy) Grafton; Grandchildren: Robert G. “Bobby” Hanauer III, Hailee I. Henke, Jayden Garrett Browning; several Step and Great Grandchildren; Siblings: Don (Jan) Bilyeu, Janice (Eric) Woolums, Sally (Scott) White, brother-in-law: David Michael (Walt) Wingler; several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; Aunt Jane (Lynn) Gibbs and Cousin Carole Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, wife Barbara Bilyeu, Uncle Fred Sams, Cousin Gary Sams and several other cousins.

Gertrude Ladson

Gertrude Ladson “Grandma Gert”, 81 of Mt. Auburn passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at 5:40 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. She was born on June 23, 1938 in Merom, IN the daughter of Lloyd and Josephine (McCloud) Brown. She married Wilber “Wib” Burdette Ladson her high school sweetheart on June 30, 1956 in Merom, IN. She was a loving woman who made it possible for loved ones to be notified quickly when a Marine is injured. She was always happy, put her family first, and loved traveling especially to the beach and birthday trips with her daughters and nieces.


She is survived by her Son: Carl (Linda) Ladson of Mt. Pulaski; Daughters: Sue (Dave) Hesse of Forsyth, Jana Ladson of Mt. Auburn, IL; Grandchildren: Justin (Crystal) Hesse of Decatur, Jason (Melissa) Hesse of Mt. Zion, Zackary Ladson of Elkhart, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Samantha and Lucas; Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Steve Ladson, nine siblings.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Mt. Auburn, IL with Pastor Mike Smith Officiating.

John L. Fixsal

John L. Fixsal, 81, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019 at his residence.

John was born April 28, 1938 in Jeisyville, IL, the son of Clarence and Beatrice (Graham) Fixsal, Sr.  He married Della May Skinner on October 5, 1955 at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, and they enjoyed over 64 years of marriage.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis, and resigned to serve in the Army National Guard as well.  He was laborer for many years through the Decatur Local 159.  John was a long-time member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and carpentry.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cathy Threnn; and brothers, Bob and Carl Fixsal.

John is survived by his wife, Della Fixsal of Morrisonville, IL; children, Debbie Mathes of Owaneco, IL, Jim (wife, Karen) Fixsal of St. Louis, MO, Mike Garwood of Hinesville, GA, Diana (husband, Craig) Wade of Dawson, IL, Darlene Myers of Morrisonville, IL, Marcy Greenwell of Rochelle, IL, and Cathy Graham of Rochelle, IL; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Floyd Fixsal of Taylorville, IL, and Carole Plopper of Morrisonville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Private family burial will be held at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery.

Alice G. Loomis

Alice G. Loomis, 88 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 2:38 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on August 3, 1931 in Mt. Zion, IL the daughter of Garnet and Maude (Bell) Warner. She married Marion Loomis on December 30, 1951 in Mt. Zion, IL. She worked as a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She loved to cook and spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Janice Hardy Vincent

Janice Hardy Vincent, 88, of Mt. Auburn, passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019 in her home.  She was born on September 12, 1931 in Chicago, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Mulberry) Haynes.  Mr. & Mrs. Haynes both passed away when Janice was very young and she was later raised by Frank & Cora Mulberry and later step-mother, Grace Mulberry.  Janice graduated as class valedictorian from Mt. Auburn High School.  She married Warren Vincent on August 20, 1950 in Mt. Auburn.  Warren preceded her in death on March 27, 2003.  Janice spent many years at home raising her 5 children and working alongside her husband on the family farm.  Later in life she worked as a clerk for the Illinois State Police.  She previously attended the Mt. Auburn United Methodist church and was an active volunteer for the School of Light and Kids R Kids organizations.  She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made many items for her grandchildren throughout the years.  One of her greatest joys was her annual fishing trips to Minnesota, a tradition began by her grandfather.  The annual trips have continued throughout the years and she was elated that the family continues the tradition

Mrs. Vincent will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rocky Rogers officiating.  Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Thomas H. Fenicle, 89 of Stonington passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at _____ m. St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on December 10, 1930 in West Fairview, PA the son of Raymond and Mary Catherine (McGarvey) Fenicle. He married Joy Ann Hensley on February 7, 1954 in Orlando, FL. He then married Margaret C. Moore on December 17, 1995 in Taylorville, IL. Tom worked as an auto parts salesman and was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Evelyn Ione (Hill) Sikes, 92 of Morrisonville passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 2:08 p.m. in her home in Morrisonville, IL. She was born on September 1, 1927 in Morrisonville, IL the daughter of Okal and Catherine (Fredrich) Hill. She married Raybern Sikes on July 18, 1946 in Morrisonville, IL. Evelyn was an Auxiliary member of the Morrisonville American Legion Leslie-Reddick Post 721 and she was a trustee on the Morrisonville City Board.

 

She is survived by her daughters: Nancy Hawkins of Taylorville, IL; Bonnie Borgic of Redding, CA; Barb Dautel of Morrisonville, IL; Tamara Lowis of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren: Steven Borgic of Largo Vista, TX; Andrew Borgic of Redondo Beach, CA; Jesse Dautel of DuQuoin, IL; Jenna Apps of Spanish Fort, AL; Jacob Dautel of Palmer, IL; Adam Lowis of Taylorville, IL; John Lowis of Morrisonville, IL; Amy Skebe of Springfield, IL; eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Laura Pacioni

Laura Pacioni, 100, of Taylorville, passed away at 10:24 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on February 22, 1919 in Tovey, the daughter of Antonio and Argia (Vitali) Verardi.  She married Nello J. Pacioni on July 29, 1941 in St. Charles, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on May 22, 1982.  Laura and Nello ran Nello’s Tavern in Langleyville for many years and she also worked at the Sangamon Company for 20 years and the Illinois Secretary of State for 7 years.  Laura was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Auxiliary at the VFW and St. Vincent Memorial Hospital.  She enjoyed dancing and playing Bingo.


She is survived by her sister-in-law: Antonia Verardi of Taylorville; nieces: Sharon Allen (Terry) of Taylorville, Judith Griffith of Florida, and Mary Duckworth (Mike) of Tovey; nephew: Ron Verardi (Margaret) of Taylorville; great nieces and nephews: Anthony Verardi, Nickolas Verardi, Gina Torricelli, Regina Swanson, Lori Ackerman, Suzi Gay, Aaron Allen, and Kristina Doan; and several great-great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter: Carolyn Pacioni; brother: Andrew Verardi; and sister: Rena Lenzini.

Karen Kader, 77 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 1:50 p.m. in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on March 27, 1942 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Henry Harmon and Amy Matilda (Hackl) Freese. She Married Charles Douglas Alvey Sr. and they divorced, she then married Charles Wayne Riggs and they later divorced, she then married John William Kader and he preceded her in death. Karen worked as a CNA at Taylorville Care Center and she was a cashier at Wal-Mart in Taylorville. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville.

Lynette was a Business Teacher at Stonington High school and was a member of the Eastern Star and VFW Post #4495 Auxiliary.

Robert Collins

Robert Collins, 81, of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at 4:39 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on April 5, 1938, in Taylorville, IL, the son of Walter “Dutch” and Clara (Passoni) Collins. He married Patricia Sharp on August 19, 1961, in St. Charles, MO. Bob worked as a coal miner at Peabody Mine #10 for 37 years and owned The Loading Zone. He graduated from Taylorville High School in the class of 1956. Bob served in the Marine Reserve Unit one year, the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne for two years, and the 504th RCT in Germany for two years. He was a member of the VFW Post 4495, United Mine Workers #9819, 82nd Historic Assn, Life Member of the NRA, Life Member of the INRA, and served as Alderman - Ward 2 for the City of Taylorville from 1977-1980. In his free time, Bob was an avid fisherman and dreamed of winning the Lotto to buy a new boat.

David Alan Baranzelli

David Alan Baranzelli, 78 of Tovey passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 5:07 p.m. in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on July 9, 1941 in Taylorville, IL the Son of Roy and Gladys (Thomas) Baranzelli. David lived all his life in Tovey, Illinois where he attended and was a member of the Midland United Methodist Church. He loved his family dinners, his dog Dandy, gardening, painting classes and drawing, and going on bus trips. He worked and retired from the Christian County Mental Health workshop.


He is survived by his sisters: Karen Spurgeon and Christine (Joseph) Broccardo; Sister-in-Law: Bonnie Baranzelli; Aunt Emma Baranzelli and Numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Roy Baranzelli and brother-in-law: Garry Spurgeon.

Maxine Virginia (Durbin) Vincent

Maxine Virginia (Durbin) Vincent, 92 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 6:10 a.m. in her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 24, 1927 at Willies Station, IL the daughter of Orville and Lucille Mae (Jackson) Durbin. She married Frank E. Vincent on October 30, 1943 in The Stonington United Methodist Church in Stonington and he preceded her in death on June 24, 2013. Maxine worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a house keeper for many years and she was a member of the Old Stonington Baptist Church in Stonington, IL. Maxine loved her flowers all around her home and she enjoyed making ceramics, painting sweatshirts and she enjoyed reading. Her and her husband enjoyed their trips to South Padre and to visit family in Tennessee and going to her favorite shops. She loved going to her children’s sports and going to tractor pulls. Maxine loved visiting and cooking for her family.

Gwendolyn Sydell Fleigle

Gwendolyn Sydell Fleigle, 74, of Taylorville passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Taylorville Care Center surrounded by her family.  She was born on October 1, 1945 in Taylorville, the daughter of Kenneth Russel and Flora Lea (Rash) Stockon.  She married Michael J. Fleigle on March 10, 1981 in Taylorville.  He preceded her in death on December 6, 2016.  Gwendolyn was a member of the Church of God.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting, dancing, and playing bingo.  She had a love for music of various types, but none more than her love for Elvis. Gwendolyn had several close friends whom she was extremely loyal to.      


She is survived by her children: Harold Gist (Terenia) and Vivian Neff both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Eboni Kelsey, Jesse Perry, Brittany Neal, Tyler Gist, and Ashley Basil; great-grandchildren: Hannah Bryson, Haley Bryson, Hope Bryson, Parker Kelsey, Penelope Kelsey, Jamison Perry, Kayden Neal, and Raylee VanSlyke; and brother: Ronald Leroy Stockon of Villa Grove.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son: Gary Stockon; and brothers: Tony Stockon and Darrell Stockon.

She was born on July 2, 1932 in Curtisville, MI the daughter of Clare H. and Ida (Wilkinson) Redmond. She married Dorman Glenn Gothup on August 16, 1958 and he preceded her in death. Betty was an active member at Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville up until her illness.

Irene M. Myers, 85, of Moweaqua, died December 5, 2019 in her home.

Irene was born November 19, 1934, in Palmer, IL, the daughter of William M. and Christine (Durbin) Huston. She married Nuel D. Myers in Oakland, CA on April 19, 1953. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2004.

Irene was a member of American Legion Auxiliary #257 and was retired from Archer Daniels Midland Company.

Surviving are her sons: Terry D. (LeighAnn) Myers of Williamsville, IL, Thomas N. (Marta) Myers of Decatur, IL, and Todd V. (Connie) Myers of Moweaqua, IL; daughters: Luanne (Scott) Gorden of Moweaqua, IL, and Lisa (David) Sassatelli of Taylorville, IL; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Martha Louise Bialas, 56 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 12, 1963 in Rockford, IL the daughter of Frances Dale and Helen Louise (Landrith) Mock. She married Bart Bialas on July 25, 1987 in Taylorville, IL. Martha was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville and she worked as a legal secretary for Fines Law office in Taylorville. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching hummingbirds, and spending time at their lake lot.

Valerie L. Pearson-Miller

Valerie L. Pearson-Miller, 55, of Virginia, IL, formerly of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 6:32 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Valerie was born September 21, 1964 in Morton, IL, the daughter of Richard E. and Arta (Billiter) Pearson. She married Terry Miller on July 18, 2015 in Beardstown, IL. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2016.

Valerie attended Beardstown high school, and spent many years working as an EMT for the cities of Assumption, Beardstown, and Rushville. She was also a volunteer fire fighter for the city of Beardstown, and a past member of Assumption Christian Church. Valerie was a social butterfly, with an extraordinary work ethic. She was selfless, optimistic, free spirited, and had unwavering faith. Valerie enjoyed being outside any time she could, whether it be doing yardwork, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, or just soaking up the sun.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Craig S. Pearson.

Valerie is survived by her sons, Jason (companion, Jana Chamness) Beaty of Taylorville, IL, Casey (wife, Randi) Busboom of Taylorville, IL, and Corey (companion, Katie Stanley) Busboom of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Jordana (husband, Mitchell) Ray of Longmont, CO; grandchildren, Madelyn Beaty, Owen Busboom, Liam Busboom, and Maddox Busboom; mother, Karen Pearson of Beardstown, IL; siblings, Jill (husband, Phil) Layne of Rushville, IL, and Brett (wife, Shana) Pearson of Riverton, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 11:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546.

Interment will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery.

David L. Brown

David L. Brown, 34, of Taylorville, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 in Taylorville.  He was born on August 11, 1985 in Jackson, TN to Lisa (Bell) Brown. He married Carina Miller on October 20, 2017 in Springfield, IL.

David was a registered nurse, a veteran of the United States Army and he served one tour of duty in Iraq where he was a combat medic. While in the Army he was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He was also a Missouri Wing State Safety Officer and an Assistant Health Services Officer for the Civil Air Patrol.

He is survived by his Wife: Carina Brown of Taylorville, Mother: Lisa Brown of Camden, TN, Sister: Ashley Brown of Weiser, ID, Grandmother: Margaret Dobson of Camden, TN, and his beloved dogs Chloe, Zoe and Jo. David was preceded in death by his grandfather Larence Bell.

Kevin Joe McKee

Kevin Joe McKee, 52, of Oregon Il., died Thursday, November 28, 2019 in his home following a courageous battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Born September 24, 1967 in Linton, IN the son of Michael and Virginia (Liston) McKee. Married to Lora Stevens April 18, 2009 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon. Kevin was a 1985 graduate of Central High School in Switz City, IN, received his Associates Degree from Vincennes University, his Bachelors in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University and his Masters in Plant Pathology from the University of Illinois. He was employed for 23 years by Monsanto and most recently by CHS in Elburn. Kevin was a board member of Illinois State Certified Crop Advisors and a Certified Crop Agronomist. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon, Knights of Columbus Council 1092 and an honorary 4th Degree Knight.

Survived by his wife, Lora McKee of Oregon; father, Michael (Pam) McKee of Switz City, IN; daughters, Kristin (Eric) Mirro of Kalamazoo, MI and Kennideigh McKee of Stonington, IL; brother, Kristopher (Brandee) McKee of Linton, IN; father-in-law, Don Stevens of Oregon; sister-in-law, Anne Stevens of Oregon; and many special friends and caregivers. Predeceased by his mother, paternal and maternal grandparents and mother-in-law, Marge Payne Stevens.

Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am Saturday December 7 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon with Rev. Joseph Naill as celebrant. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Oregon. Visitation 4:00 - 8:00pm Friday in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.

Robert D. Corzine

Robert D. Corzine, 96, of Assumption, died November 29, 2019 in his home.
 
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2019,  at the Assumption Christian Church.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the church, with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.  Memorials may be made to Pinehaven Christian Children’s Ranch, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Assumption Christian Church.
 
Robert was born October 26, 1923 in Pana, IL, the son of Dale and Marjorie (Lloyd) Corzine.  He married Shirley Trulock July 16, 1950 in Moweaqua, IL.  She preceded him in death September 1971.  He later married Carolyn Gabriel, October 5, 1973 in Assumption, IL. 
 
Robert was a member of Assumption Christian Church, where he variously served as Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Elder, and Board Member.   He was a former member of the Assumption School Board, Assumption Optimist Club and Assumption Historical Society. Robert was a 1947 graduate of University of Illinois and a member of AGR Fraternity.  He was a member of Golden Oldies Golf League and golfed until the age of 90. Robert was a farmer for over 50 years.
 
Surviving is his wife, Carolyn; sons: Randy (Susan) Corzine of Assumption, IL, Guy Corzine of St. Cloud, FL, and Curt (Dawnna) Corzine of Assumption, IL; daughters: Kathy (Dan) Wormhoudt of Effingham, IL, Beth (Mark) Willhite of Sandy, OR, Jill (R.D.) Waddington of Assumption, IL, and Tammy (Mike) Ashby of Champaign, IL; twenty one grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and brothers: Bill (Ginny) Corzine of Cloverdale, CA and Carl Corzine of Assumption, IL.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Shirley; a son; and three granddaughters.
