Betty Jean Quick of Taylorville

Betty Jean Quick, 88, of Taylorville, IL died at 5:54 am Friday, March 29, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

 

She was born September 25, 1924 in West Frankfort, IL the daughter of Carroll W. and Ethel Mae White Ford.  On July 20, 1942 she married John T. Quick, Sr. and he preceded her in death on September 2, 2004.  Betty was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Taylorville.  She was a License Remitter and owner/operator of Ford License Agency from 1975 – 2005.

 

Surviving are her children: John T. Quick, Jr. of Taylorville, Melody Reynolds and husband Jack, Jr. of Springfield, and Kevin J. Quick of Taylorville.  Grandchildren:  Jason Quick, Travis Quick, Jonathan Quick, Maren Reynolds and Jennifer Reynolds.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Stephen Mark Quick in infancy and James F. Quick and sister, Etta Mae Credi.

 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 2 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville with Rev. Ed Heppe officiating.  There will be no visitation. McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leland L. Allen of Taylorville

Leland  L. Allen, 89, of Taylorville, passed away on March 29, 2013 at 6:20 a.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born on April 10, 1923 in Taylorville, the son of Louis and Matilda (Weineke) Allen. He married Doris Foster on March 9, 1943 in Taylorville. They recently celebrated their70th wedding anniversary. He was retired from the Caterpillar Tractor Company. Mr. Allen was a U. S. Army veteran who served in the European Theater during WWII. He was a member of the VFW, DAV and the American Legion.

He  is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Randy (Joleen) Allen of Chillicothe, IL; daughter, Anita (Victor) Mullins of Taylorville; grandchildren, Richard (Debbie) Hardas of Nokomis, IL, Julie (Don) Sisk of Nokomis IL, Kristina (Bill) Mares of Salisbury, NC and Daniel (Ashley) Allen of Princeville, IL; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sharon Riva of Mt. Zion, IL and Laoaka Foster of Taylorville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his parents, brothers, Wilbur, Floyd, and Vernon; sisters, Helen, Marie, Flossie, and Lucille; brother-in-law, Wayne Foster.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.  Dr.  Richard Tribble  with the assistance of Pastor Jim Augenstein will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Military Honors .

John Joseph Riley of Rockford

John Joseph Riley, 66, of Rockford, IL formerly of Taylorville, died at 9:03 pm Monday, March 23, 2013 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.

He was born August 16, 1946 in Assumption, IL the son of Thomas R. and Josephine Loreth Riley.

John moved into Milestone Care in December of 1991.  He lived at Elmwood Heights from 1991-1998, at Riverside Group Home from 1998 until 2005 and at Shattuck Group home from 2005 – 2013.  He attended the Milestone Training Center from 1991 – 2013 and was in the retirement group.  John liked watching TV in the back room of his home, going out to eat, playing ball/catch, thumbing through magazines and going for walks.  A smile from John just made you smile.

Surviving are his Brothers: Gerald Riley of DeKalb, IL, Patrick O. Riley and wife Nancy of Charlottesville, VA, and Dr. James E. Riley and wife Mary Jo of Decatur.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother Thomas Riley.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 at McClure Funeral Home with Fr. Maridas officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Assumption, IL. There will be a memorial service held later at Milestone Living Center in Rockford, IL.

Cecilia Marie Langlet of Taylorville

Cecilia Marie Langlet, 93, of Taylorville, IL died at 8:43 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 29, 1919 in Hart County, Kentucky the daughter of Charles M. and Mary Brown Clark.  On November 20, 1937 she married Theodore George Langlet in Stonington, IL.  He preceded her in death on February 26, 2003.  Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

Surviving are her son: Theodore Langlet and wife Hildegard of Volcano, CA and daughter: Janet M. Vaughan and husband Larry of Taylorville.  Grandchildren: Charles Langlet, Patrick Langlet, Scott Langlet, Lisa Newman, Laurianne Langlet, Christine Norberg, Anthony Samuel, David Samuel, and Jenna Samuel.  There are 16 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-great Grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Lillian Oyler of Chatham and Margaret Collett of Decatur.  Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 brother, Joseph Clark and 1 sister, Frances Roth.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville.

Carol Boehme of Taylorville

Carol Boehme, 75, of Taylorville, IL died at 2:30 pm, Monday, March 25, 2013 at her residence.

She was born January 15, 1938 in Litchfield, IL the daughter of Miles F. and Esther L. Whitfield Slighton.  On November 21, 1955 she married Leland R. Boehme in Corinth, MS.  Mrs. Boehme was a member of Davis Memorial Christian Church and the Christian County Historical Society.  Her employments included Mutual of New York Insurance, Donaldson Air Cleaner Company, a steel buyer for Circle Steel and Lee Norris, a clothing buyer for Herndon in Springfield, a steel buyer for Air Float Corp. in Decatur. She and Dennis Smith stared Christian County Mental Health Association. Then she started Park Glen Apartments where she later served as the first manager. While accomplishing all this she still had time to raise four wonderful children.

She is survived by her husband Leland of Taylorville; Daughter: Yvonne Rae Boehme of Taylorville, 3 Sons: Kevin Dean Boehme and wife Tracie, Brian Kurt Boehme and wife Tammy all of Taylorville, and Andrew Jon Boehme and wife Janine of Decatur, Foster Daughter: Linda Williams of Morrisonville.  Grandchildren: Katie Jacobs and husband Stephen, Audra Boehme, J.T. Boehme, Tasha Boehme, Chelsea Boehme, Hannah Boehme, Emily Boehme, Ffion Boehme, Carys Boehme, Ievan Boehme, Claudia Lynn, Chloe Lynn, Callie Lynn, Jake Law, Amy Law, Tim Lynn and wife Megan, Joanna Williams, and Sara Williams. Great Granddaughter: Savanna Frank, and Brother: Tom Slighton of Litchfield.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 8 brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Carol’s life will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Thursday, March 28 at McClure Funeral Home.

Helen Louis (Head) Kindred of Taylorville

Helen Louis (Head) Kindred, 87, of Taylorville, passed away March 23, 2013 at 8:22 p.m. at her residence in Taylorville. She was born May 29, 1925 in Owensboro, KY. The Daughter of R.T. and Mayme (Brown) Head Jr. She married Paul D. Kindred on October 5, 1946 in Taylorville, IL. She worked at the Internal Revenue office in Springfield, IL, J.C. Penny in Taylorville, and was a home maker. To celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary she and Paul went to Paris, France. At the time of Helens Death she was married 67 years. She was a member of the American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary and at one time held the office of Vice-President. She enjoyed shopping and going on trips with the senior citizens of Christian County. She also enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends.

She is survived by her Husband Paul, 5 Children, 9 Grandchildren, 2 Step-Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Step-Great-Grandchild, 1 Sister and several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Son Denny who died at birth, and a sister.

There will be private family services at the Funeral Home with Pastor Tiney Walker Officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.

Shirley A. Kailing of Taylorville

Shirley A. Kailing, 75, of Taylorville formerly of Blue Mound, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2013 at 11:42 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. She was born June 12, 1937 in Blue Mound, IL. The Daughter of Harvey Thomas and Lucy Evelyn (Moomey) Buckner. She married To Glen S. Ross Jr. on August 29, 1954 in Blue Mound Methodist Church and he preceded her on June 10, 1978 She then married Donald R. Kailing on June 13, 1980 in Springfield, IL . She did secretarial work and was a housewife. She was also a member of The Way of Life Church of Taylorville, IL

She is survived by her Husband: Donald; Son: Guy Ross A. (Peggy) Ross of Taylorville, IL; Clyde E. (Pam) Ross of Chatham, IL; (6) Six Step-Daughters and Step-Sons; Grandchildren: Andrew Ross, Jessica Ross, and Danielle Ross of Springfield, IL and Several Step-Grandchildren; Great-Grandchildren: 2 and Several Step-Great Grandchildren; Sister: Jannet Nagle of Taylorville, IL; 6 Nieces, Nephews, Cousins; several step nieces and nephews

Raymond D Traughber of Taylorville

Raymond D Traughber, 80, of Taylorville passed away at 1:10am, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Taylorville Care Center. He was born on October 22, 1932 in Stonington, the son of Earl W and Norma Marshall Traughber. Mr. Traughber was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Caterpillar after 30+ years. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #1516 in Taylorville.

Surviving are his daughter: Cindy South, husband Ray, of Taylorville; Grandchildren: Colby South of Taylorville and Kedra South of Springfield; Great Grandchildren: Kylie South, Zachary South, and Candace South; Sisters: Phyllis Edgecombe and Joann Patino, husband Frank, of Taylorville; Brother: Dale Traughber, wife Linda, of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Daughter: Michelle Diane Traughber; and Brother Darrell Traughber.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial with veterans honors will be in the Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 until 7pm in the Funeral Home.

William J. Jack of Taylorville

William J. Jack, 58, of Taylorville, passed away March 13, 2013 at 8:12 p.m. at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. He was born September 11, 1954 in Taylorville, IL. The Son of Billy and Delores (Cattinari) Jack. He was a factory worker for Precision Products. He was an avid cardinal fan, loved fishing and people.

He is survived by his Parents Billy and Delores Jack of Taylorville, IL; Sister: Theresa Mosley of Taylorville, IL; Great-Aunt: Kathleen Robinette of Litchfield, IL; Uncles: Gene Cattinari of Wooddale, IL; Richard Cattinari of Florida and Several Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Deborah Sue Willhoit of Springfield

Deborah Sue Willhoit, 60, of Springfield, IL, passed away March 8, 2013 at 1:02 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born November 26, 1952 in Indiana, PA. The Daughter of Kenneth H. and Leola I. Thornton Conant. She married Richard Willhoit on September 7, 1991 in Springfield, IL. She was a purchasing agent for the Auditor General of The State of Illinois. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springfield, IL, Central Illinois Walk to Emmaus, Lay witness Mission, and Stephen’s Ministry. She enjoyed camping, visiting people and she was a prayer warrior.

She is survived by her Husband: Richard; Daughter: Christina (Kirk) Hammer of Edelstein, IL; Grandchildren: Jessica Bourland, Joe Bourland, Colton Hammer, Kaylee Hammer; Brothers: Lloyd C. (Margie) Conant of Taylorville, IL; David L. (Barb) Conant of Witt, IL; Brother-in-Law: James A. (Carolyn) Willhoit of Ohio; Peggy A. Helen R. Trost of Taylorville

Helen R. Trost, 92, of Taylorville, IL died at 4:50 PM Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL.

She was born December 17, 1920 in Sangamon County, IL the daughter of George and Cecilia Pearl Milliken Wilcockson. On May 15, 1942 she married Ralph E. Trost in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1997. In her early years Helen worked at the Department of Transportation in Washington, DC and later worked for D.W. Johnston an attourney in Taylorville. Mrs. Trost was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, United Methodist Women of the Church, and the Taylorville Women's Club. She delivered Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, bowling and playing the piano.

Surviving are her sons: David R. Trost and wife Rhonda of Taylorville, Steven M. Trost and wife Keesun of South Korea; 4 Daughters: Sharyn Ann Haines and husband Duane of Richmond, TX, Carol Lynn Lykens and husband William of Broadhead, KY, Barbara Lee Bill and husband Robert of Bloomington, and Lynn Ann Chavadrov of Santa Ana, CA. 9 Grandchildren: Brian Haines, Susan Donovan, Bradley Haines, Nicholas Lykens, Justin "Bo" Lykens, Ryan Lykens, Andrea Zigmant, Jamison Bills, and Alexandra Chavdarov. There are 16 Great Grandchildren and one Great-great Granddaughter. Sister: Marguerite Wiley of Tucson, AZ. She was perceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister, 2 brothers, and 1 grandson, Douglas Lykens.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held form 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville.

Nelson E. Applegate of Fillmore

Nelson E. Applegate, 82, of Fillmore, IL died at 8:29 pm Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

He was born January 18, 1931 in Chesterville, IL the son of James Floyd and Gladys Jean Applegate.  On June 3, 1956 he married Mary Hill in Ramsey, IL.  Mr. Applegate had been a coal miner, and a barber and retired from the Graham Correctional Center as the Barber Supervisor. 

Surviving are his wife Mary Applegate of Fillmore, IL; Daughter: Paula Applegate and fiancé Mike Holley of Watertown, TAN and a Son: Jean Applegate and wife Jodi of Nokomis.  There are 2 Grandchildren: Colby Applegate and Brenden Applegate.  Also Surviving is a sister: Lois Kohl of Mattoon.

In keeping with Nelson’s wishes he will be cremated.  Family and friends and invited for a time of remembrance on Monday, March 11 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Fillmore Baptist Church.

John Alan Kohl, of Taylorville, passed away March 6, 2013 at 4:55 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL. He was born March 6, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. The Son of Orville John and Julie Ann Ladd Kohl.

Leona Gertrude (Gimbel) Helton of Taylorville

Leona Gertrude (Gimbel) Helton, 93, of Taylorville formerly of Illiopolis IL, passed away March 5, 2013 at 9:40 a.m. at the Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. She was born February 3, 1920 in Beardstown, IL, the daughter of Alpha Perry & Helen Lucille (Crabtree) Gimbel. She was raised by her aunt and uncle George and Rosa Gimbel after mother’s death. She attended Illiopolis Schools. She married Willard Helton on February 19, 1935 in Bloomington, IL. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2008. She was a housewife. She was a member or the Order of The Eastern Star, Kedron Chapter, and the Illiopolis Christian Church.

She is survived by her sons, Garth Helton of Mt. Pulaski, IL and Theron “Randy” (Alyse) Helton of Taylorville; daughter, Toni Drees of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren,Cheryl (husband Jimmie) Lee of Decatur, Byron (wife Doris) Helton of Mt. Pulaski, IL, Garth Helton Jr. of Qua Paw, OK., Mike (wife Donna) Helton of Qua Paw, OK, Corinne (husband Peter Joe) Herndon of Miami, OK, Tina (husband David) Rubino of Maplewood MO, Craig Drees of Beecher City, IL, Stacy (husband Bill) Barnes of Madison, IN, Lisa (husband Talon) Burton of Taylorville, IL, Eric (wife Shelly) Helton of Taylorville, IL, and Troy (wife Laura) Helton of Hillsboro, IL; 29 Great-Grandchildren and 18 Great Great-Grandchildren; fourteen nieces and nephews and three cousins. Wilbert Whitey Mahnke of Pana

88 year old, Wilbert "Whitey" Mahnke of Pana Illinois died Wednesday, February, 27, at 9:10 PM at Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana, Illinois. Wilbert "Whitey" Mahnke was born Thursday, May 8 1924, in Prairie Township Shelby County Illinois the son of Henry and Mary Mahnke.  Whitey grew up on the family farm in Prairie Township near Mode Illinois.  He was a veteran of the United States Army WW II Philippine occupation forces.  He married Susie J Hadowsky on February 2, 1980, in Effingham, Illinois. They owned and operated Whitey's Lawn Service in Pana for over 30 years.  He is Survived by:  DAUGHTER Lisa Anderson SPOUSE Chad OF Georgia; SON Matthew Mahnke OF Pana IL; GRANDSON Dean Anderson OF Georgia.  He was PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: parents, wife, 3 Brothers: Cleo, Albert, & Elmer Mahnke

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March, 6 at 10:30 AM at Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home, Pana, Illinois with Pastor Greg White, officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00, Tuesday, March 5, at Kennedy & Sons, Pana. Burial will be in Greenwood Fairview Cemetery, Christian County Illinois, with military rites by United States Army Military Honor Guard.
