Mary Ellen Uhrick

Mary Ellen Uhrick, 89, of Taylorville, passed away at 6:27 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Taylorville Care Center.

 

Mary Ellen was born June 25, 1932 in Pawnee, the daughter of Frank and Vivian Grace (Moses) Oller. She married Ernest Smith, Sr. and together they had 4 sons. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1975. Mary Ellen, then, married Larry L. Uhrick on July 4, 1980, and he preceded her in death on July 10, 2020. Mary Ellen retired from the Sangamon Paper Company after many years of service. During her retirement she worked for many years at Christian County Mental Health. She was a long-time member of the Community of Christ in Taylorville.

 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, David, Ernest “J.R.”, and Daniel Smith; grandsons, Colley and D.W. Smith; brother, Guy Oller; sister, Donna Jean Harris; sister-in-law, Olive Oller; and brothers-in-law, Merle Shea and Wayne Cravens.

 

Mary Ellen is survived by her son, H. Edward (wife, Pamela) Smith of Killeen, TX; daughters-in-law, Faye Smith of Granite City, Ruth Smith of Effingham, and Beth Smith of Granite City; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; siblings, Virginia Shea of Springfield, Phyllis Cravens of Kincaid, Leland Oller of Moweaqua, and Pat (husband, Ellis) Sills of Shelbyville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield, IL 62707 with Rev. Mike Shea officiating. Military honors for Mary Ellen’s late husband, Larry, will be provided at that time as well.

Steven Lee (Steve) (Red) Skinner

Steven Lee “Steve” “Red” Skinner, 45, of Decatur, IL passed away on June 24, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL.

Steve was born on August 9, 1975 in Hillsboro, IL the son of William Hirtman and Clarissa Skinner. Steve married Autumn Stevens on April 18, 2009 in Lincoln, IL. Autumn survives of Decatur. Steve is also survived by his parents: William and Clarissa Hirtman of Decatur, IL; children: Aaron Bearman of Taylorville, IL; Haley Skinner, Lexis Skinner, Emma Skinner and Harold Skinner all of Decatur; brother: William Hirtman, Jr of Decatur; sisters: Dawn Conner and Stephanie Hines, both of Decatur. Steve is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

Steve was employed as a Groundskeeper at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur. Steve also served as a volunteer Fireman for the Niantic-Harristown Fire Protection District. He enjoyed family gatherings, camping, and anything outdoors. He also loved country music. Most of all, he loved to help others.

Services to celebrate Steve’s life will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harper Ferry Cemetery in Palmer, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Rebecca C. Simes

Rebecca C. Simes, 71, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:23 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Becky was born March 8, 1950 in Paris, IL, the daughter of Foster and Myrtle (Drake) Simes. She graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1968, and went to work for Stiehl Drugs for many years. Following her time there, Becky was a housekeeper for many families in Taylorville and for Taylorville Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was a long-time member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sandra Johnston.

Becky is survived by her brother, David (wife, Rose) Simes of Taylorville; nieces and nephews, Marisa (husband, Brad) Rodden of Taylorville, Rachel Simes of Taylorville, Tess Faust of Louisville, KY, and Shane Johnston of Frankfort, KY; and several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Becky made the gift of donating her body for scientific research. Private burial ceremonies will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Charles Wayne Riggs

Charles Wayne Riggs, 77, of Taylorville, passed away at 1:49 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Charles was born January 30, 1944 in Missouri, the son of E.C. Riggs and Alline Hager. He was raised in Missouri by his mother and step-father, Claude Cloninger, where he learned the value of hard work while picking cotton. Charles moved to Taylorville for work, where he started at Bodendike Tool Company in the foundry. He moved on to Continental Grain where he was employed for over 12 years. Charles then went to work construction for his uncle, Bill Hager, and then eventually for himself.

As a child, Charles received care from the Shriners Hospital in Missouri to treat polio. This led to his generous spirit, especially in helping sick children. He was an avid blood donor too, receiving many pins for the amount and frequency of his donations. Charles loved fishing, watching Western movies and professional wrestling, and he enjoyed woodworking. He made many picture frames, chests, and other pieces of furniture over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie Cloninger; brothers, Derrel and David Cloninger; and his daughter, Amy’s mother, Karen Kader.

Charles is survived by his companion of over 25 years, JoMarie Warren of Taylorville; children, Matt (Tracie) Riggs of Kincaid, Amy (Brian) Taylor of Taylorville, Mark Riggs of Taylorville, Shannon (Robert) Morrison of Stonington, Kris (Stella) Warren of Taylorville, and Matt (Erica) Warren of Stonington; grandchildren, Carrie Willis, Sean Morrison, Matthew Riggs, Jr., Kidd Morrison, Ariana Morrison, Haylee Riggs, Aly Warren, Cole Warren, Addison Herman, D.J. Warren, and Bella Warren; brother, Keith Cloninger of Bernie, MO; several nieces and nephews; and Matt, Mark, and Shannon’s mother, Carol Riggs of Taylorville.

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.  Cremation will be provided following the visitation.

Charlotte Ann Schum

Charlotte Ann Schum, 75 of Decatur, IL passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 9:15 p.m. at her home. She was born on May 12, 1946 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Joseph Donald and Anna Marie (Nolen) McVey. She married Ronald “Denny” Schum on January 2, 1982 in Oreana, IL. She worked as a secretary for Liberty Mutual and Circle Steel and worked with students in Taylorville High School’s peer tutoring lab. Charlotte enjoyed gardening, bird watching, gambling at Dottie’s, and she enjoyed traveling with her sister on many of Timi’s Tours road trips.

She is survived by her husband: Ronald “Denny” Schum, Son: John W. Foor Jr. of Latham, IL, Grandchildren: Dyllan (Amy) Foor of Decatur, IL and C.J. (Lauren) Leming of Decatur, IL, several Great Grandchildren, Sister: Mary Jane McVey, Step-son: Ronald Schum and family, Nephew: Brad (Sherry) McVey of Bridgeport, IL, Several, Great Nieces and Nephews, Brother-in-Law: Terry Schum of Decatur, IL, Sisters-in-Law: Sharon K. and Betty “Jo”.She is also survived by her four legged companion, Cassie.

Amy Ann Phillips

Amy Ann Phillips, 57 of Kincaid, IL passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 9:35 p.m. at her home. She was born on November 19, 1963 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Lloyd Fredrick Schleyhahn Sr. and Monica June (Fox) Schleyhahn. She married Dean Lee Phillips on October 31, 1993 in Tovey, IL. Amy was an avid reader who loved rock n’roll and had a green thumb for growing things.

She is survived by her husband: Dean Lee Phillips, daughter: Monica Schleyhahn (companion Shaun Foster) of Kincaid, IL, sons: Christopher Dean Lee (Kira) Phillips of Kincaid, IL and Castle J. (fiancé Courtney Minks) Phillips of Taylorville, IL, grandchildren: Tyler Lee Foster and Caitlyn Foster of Kincaid, IL, Brysinn Phillips and Axel Phillips of Taylorville, IL and Rhorick Phillips of Kincaid, IL, brother: Barry (Joy) Schleyhahn several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tina Lou Kruse

Tina Lou Kruse, 62 of Taylorville, passed away at 2:06pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 4, 1959 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of William Neeley Sr. and Juanita (Lyons) Neeley. Tina loved dogs and had many special ones throughout the years including her lab Kodi, and currently her terrier Tinker.

 

She is survived be her son: Sione Neeley of Taylorville; granddaughters: Kiera Neeley and Leah Weichert both of Stonington; siblings: Leilani Brewner (Howie) of Decatur. William Neeley Jr. (Carol) of Decatur, and Zelda Sears (Scott) of Effingham; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Jessica Lynn Neeley; and brother: Robert Mark Neeley.

Mary Jeannette "Jean" Clark

Mary Jeannette “Jean” Clark, 76 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2020 at 6:34 a.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on January 13, 1945 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of David “Vin” Calvin Hall and Edith Pearl (Owen) Hall Light. She married Francis Dean Clark in 1963 and they later divorced. She retired from the IRS and she was a member of Taylorville Christin Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her sons: Eric Clark of Taylorville, IL; Greg D. (Anita K.) Clark of Morrisonville, IL; Jeffrey B. Clark of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren: Fantasia Anderson of Boise, ID; Cheyenne and Lakota Clark of Taylorville, Cassidy Beckham of Taylorville; Kylie and Ruger Clark of Morrisonville, IL; Steven (Ashley) Rever of St. Joseph, MO; Matt (Alyssa) Rever of Ft. Randall Eugene Grafton Sr

Randall Eugene Grafton Sr., 63 of Loami, IL passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 8:10 a.m. at his home in Springfield, IL. He was born on November 10, 1957 in Springfield, IL the son of Bart and Roe Nan (Bryant) Grafton. He married Jennifer Garman in November of 1975 in Springfield and they were divorced, he then married Christina Connor on June 21, 1986 in Springfield, IL and they divorced, he then married Alecia Bilyeu on August 21, 2002 in Taylorville, IL. Randy worked as a retail merchandiser at County Market in Chatham, IL.

He is survived by his Wife: Alecia M. Grafton of Loami, IL; Daughters: Samantha Brandt of Sunset, UT, Tabitha Grafton of Loami, IL; Jessica Baumburger of Rochester, IL; Sons: Randall E. Grafton Jr. of Springfield, IL; Benjamin Grafton of Springfield, IL; Step-sons: Bobby Hanauer III and Garrett Browning both of Loami; Nine Grandchildren; One Great-Grandson; Brother: Patrick (Wendy) Grafton of Tovey, IL; Sister-in-Law: Bernice Grafton of Crossville, TN, Melissa Bilyeu of Springfield, IL; Taunya (Kurt) Henke of Staunton, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna Daughtry

Donna Daughtry, 85 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 3:37 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born October 11, 1935 in Pana, IL the daughter of Raymond and Ogretta (Schafle) Kramer. Donna graduated from Taylorville High School in 1954. She married Dale L. Daughtry November 4, 1956 at the First United Methodist Church in Millersville, IL where she was a member.

 

After graduation, Donna worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for 8 ½ years. She left the company when her daughter was born in 1962. She worked for many years in the fields helping her husband farm after his heart attack. Donna was a devoted 4-H leader of the Clover Club for 13 years. After retiring from farming, she worked as a bookkeeper for Sangamon Greeting Card Company for 15 years and retired in 1999. She then worked part time for Sangamon Card Company as a bookkeeper until December 31, 2011. Donna also worked

at The Best for Less store part time and was a caregiver. To know Donna was to love her…she will be remembered for her smile and many acts of kindness and generosity.

 

She is survived by her daughter: Michelle (Todd) Chambers of Taylorville, IL; Grandson: Alex (Elysa) Chambers of Morrisonville, IL; Sisters: Shirley Behrends of Brownstown, IL; Carole (Roy) Swigert of Taylorville, IL; Sharon Downs of Taylorville, IL; Brother: Ray Kramer of Bingham, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and grandparents.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Following the visitation will be a memorial service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home with Rev. Dick Wamsley officiating. Inurnment will be a t a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Jeanette Coady

Jeanette Coady, 90, of Taylorville, passed away at 11:45am on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on May 25, 1931 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph Podeschi Sr. and Sue (DePolo) Podeschi.  She married Joseph “Gene” Coady on September 3, 1951, at St. Mary’s Church by Fr. Joseph O’Dwyer.  Gene preceded her in death on February 25, 2018.  

 

Jeanette worked for several decades at her uncle’s grocery store, the “My Store”. She was an active member of St. Mary’s where she sang in the church choir as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for more than 50 years.  She was a member of Christian County Senior Citizens.  Jeanette was a devoted grandmother, and thoroughly enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sports and music activities.  She enjoyed playing bridge, Scrabble, and working crossword puzzles.  The center of Jeanette’s life was God and her family. 

 

Jeanette is survived by her children: John Coady (Kathy), Diane Tirey (Ed), and Kathryn Mitchelson (Randy) all of Taylorville, and Cheryl Fahl (Kirk Vince) of Port Charlotte, Florida; grandchildren: Craig Coady (Darcy), Maureen Magnussen (Mike), Andrea Dutt (Daniel), Kevin Tirey (Jennifer), Brian Tirey, Andrew Mitchelson, Kaylee Daniel (Joe), Daniel Fahl, Shauna Fahl, and Alexandra Fahl; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: Ray Podeschi, Mario Podeschi, and Joe Podeschi Jr. 

Jeanette will be cremated, and a memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. David Lantz officiating.  Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery following the mass.  Visitation will take place from 10:00am until 11:00am on Wednesday at the church.

Rodney Ross Thomas

Rodney Ross Thomas, 93, formerly of Edinburg, IL and Bloomington, IL, passed away February 21, 2021 in Pink Hill, NC. He was the last living child of Kenneth Wright and Lelia Ross Thomas. He was born September 19, 1927 in Madisonville, KY. At the age of 3, Rodney and his family made their way to Illinois in a Model T and horse & wagon.

Rodney married the love of his life, Marcella Louis (Sally) Hartwig on October 19, 1947 at the Berea Christian Church, Mt Auburn, IL. They lived a happy Christian life together, raising 4 children. They loved to camp, travel, play cards, and a host of many other hobbies. Rodney was a farmer early in his life and then worked for Farm Service (FS)/Growmark for 38 years. Sally passed away February 1, 2001. Rodney then moved to North Carolina in 2006 to live with his daughter and son-in-law. While there he enjoyed gardening, planting and caring for many trees, raising chickens, traveling and learning about North Carolina, and giving his grandkids and great grandkids many golf cart rides around the farm.

Surviving children are daughter Nancy A. Miller (James) of Stella, NC, son Kerry R. Thomas (Linda) of Cissna Park, IL, and daughter-in-law Denise Thomas-Ruby (John) of New Berlin, IL, sisters-in-law: Jeanne Thomas of Barrington, IL and Norma Hartwig of Springfield, IL; brother-in-law: John Hartwig of Taylorville, IL; 14 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death, wife Sally, sons David J. and Gregory A., parents K.W. and Lelia, and his 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Celebration of life service will be at Berea Christian Church and Cemetery, 3096 N 2025 East Road, Mt Auburn, IL, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with the services.

Damien Michael Donoho

Damien Michael Donoho, 22 of Taylorville passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 2:10 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on July 9, 1998 in Springfield, IL the son of William and Sheena (Donoho) Swan. Damien worked as an employee at Casey’s on Park Street in Taylorville. He was involved in Magic the Gathering at Hobby Lobby; he loved his work at Casey’s and he loved hanging out with his friends.

He is survived by his parents: Sheena (William) Swan of Taylorville, IL; brothers: Aaron Watkins of Henderson, NV, Russell and Gabe Boston of Taylorville, IL; sisters: Angela and Kelly McKinnon of Taylorville, IL; grandparents: Steve and Kathy Donoho of Taylorville, IL; Marty Swan of Taylorville, IL; Terry Pate of Mediapolis, IA, Vickie Donoho of Taylorville, IL; great-grandparents: Dolores Hoover of Taylorville, Rose Swan of Dixon, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty Ruth West

Betty Ruth West, 92 of Nokomis passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 9:57 a.m. at Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Nokomis, IL. She was born on October 30, 1928 in Moweaqua, IL the daughter of Marshall and Mildred (Marshall) Nichols and foster daughter of: Goldie Singler. She married Ray West on June 7, 1947 in Vandalia, IL and he preceded her in death in August of 1997. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for 84 years. She loved Quilting so much that she has made over 100 quilts. She also loved going to Church, baking, and gardening in her flower garden.

Rose M. Scott

Mrs. Rose M. Scott, 68, of Taylorville, IL formerly of Palmer, IL died at 9:58 P.M. Friday, June 11, 2021 at her home with family by her side.

She was born in Kissimmee, FL on April 18, 1953 the daughter of Clarence “Smiley” and Delores (Koonce) Wise. Miss Wise graduated from South Fork High School in the class of 1972. Rose married Larry C. Scott on June 1, 1973 in Tovey, IL. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2005.

Mrs. Scott enjoyed: fishing, bingo, gambling at casinos, gardening, canning, cooking, playing cards, cookouts, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Kincaid Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter Angie Leers and companion Lenny Lortie of Taylorville, IL son Larry C. Scott, Jr and wife Tina of Palmer, IL daughter DeeAnna Samson husband Ricky of Taylorville, IL 9 grandchildren Emily Leers and companion Chase Spinner, Gabe Leers, Justyce Scott and companion Jonas Kingery, Witni Scott and companion Austin Brakenhoff, Larry Scott III and companion Lydia Wilson, Keagan Scott and companion Tessa Anderson, Dakota Loyd, Quinton Mills and Nathan Mills, 1 great grandchild Aviah Wilson, a brother Richie (Vickie) Wise of MI, 5 sisters Rita (Gary) Phillips of WA, Terri (Robert) Latham of TX, Karen (John) Paz of TX, Janet (Dennis) Crowder of Owaneco, IL and Darla Gatton of Morrisonville, IL along with many nieces and nephews.

Kenneth D. Brown

Kenneth D. Brown, 84 of Kincaid died at 7:28 pm Thursday June 10, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born November 4, 1936 at Divernon, IL, the son of Virgil W. and Mae M. (Carroll) Brown. He graduated in Divernon Class of 1955. He married Kathleen G. Cheek on June 21, 1960 in El Paso, Texas.

She preceded him in death September 1, 2014.

Mr. Brown was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, Illini basketball fan. He liked playing Rum and spending time with his family. At one time, he was an avid fan of horse racing. He was a member of the New City Community Church. Kenneth worked for the cardinal factory in Kincaid for many years and retired as a foreman from Cyde Enterprises. Mr. Brown is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are a daughter Brenda (Jeff) Tucker of Tovey, IL , two sons Steve “Savoy” (Peggy Sue) Brown of Kincaid, IL , and Dennis Beaty of Paris, MO along with a sister Marge McNally of California, ten grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathleen, two sons James K Brown and Rick Beaty, one brother Donald Brown and two sisters Linda Tillery and Wilma Meyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday June 15, 2021 at Masterson Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Kincaid, IL. Reverend Chad Foster will officiate. Brent Allan (Sarge) Cornell

Brent Allan “Sarge” Cornell, 59 of Taylorville passed away at 5:46am on Friday, June 11, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 11, 1962, in Taylorville, the son of Walter Allan and Dorothy Joan (Hardy) Cornell. He married Janelle Joyce Miller on June 6, 1998, in Taylorville. Brent proudly served his country for 11 years with the U.S. Army spending time at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and Ft. Riley, Kansas and 2 tours of duty in Germany. Having achieved the rank of Sergeant in the army, he was known by all as Sarge. Following his time in the service, Sarge worked for 26 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. During his time with the post office, he served as Union Steward of NALC Local 88 and proudly led the letter carrier’s food drive for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Sarge enjoyed sports, playing basketball for several years and softball for his entire life. Brent enjoyed hunting, taking part in many trips with his father and friends. One of his greatest passions was riding his Honda Goldwing. Since 2008, Sarge has ridden more than 300,000 miles and has ridden his bike in 49 states. He loved his time on the open road, especially finding interesting places to eat. He was a member of the Iron Butt Association, and once rode coast to coast in 45 hours and completed a ride from the Arctic Circle in Alaska to Key West, Florida. Sarge enjoyed cooking and barbequing, he even won awards for his creations while competing in the Men Who Cook competition at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He always enjoyed entertaining. Whether it was singing Johnny Cash karaoke, or doing his favorite John Wayne imitations, Sarge loved to make others smile. More than anything, he was devoted to his wife, kids, and grandkids.

 

Brent is survived by his wife: Janelle Cornell of Taylorville; children: Justin Cornell (Erika) of Rochester, Brian Cornell (Molly Spurgin) of Napa, California, Katie Cornell (Walker Siempelkamp) of Stonington, Julie Lauffenburger of Boston, Massachusetts, and Wendy Lauffenburger of Benson, North Carolina; grandchildren: Roman Cornell, Leo Cornell, Asher Cornell, Murphy Siempelkamp, Gwen Siempelkamp, Duane Ray, and another on-the-way; sister: Stacey Cornell of Champaign; and aunts: Karen Cornell of Taylorville and June (Nick) Hardy of Henderson, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

The visitation for Brent will take place from 4 until 7pm on Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 930 Haner St., Taylorville. The funeral service will take place at 11am on Tuesday, at the church with Pastor Steve Switzer officiating. Everyone attending the funeral is encouraged to wear casual, patriotic-colored attire. Those attending the funeral and visitation are invited to bring their favorite travel related sticker to place on Sarge’s casket. Following the funeral, family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon at the church. At 1:15pm, a procession including the Illinois Patriot Guard Riders and other motorcycles, will depart the church enroute to Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sarge will be laid to rest with military honors. Hilda "Bea" Washburn

Hilda “Bea” Washburn, 90 of Taylorville, passed away at 3:06pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville. She was born on January 2, 1931, in Yatesville, Georgia, the daughter of James C. and Nannie C. (Boyt) Blount. Bea married Lloyd Sylvester Washburn on March 7, 1952, in Oxnard, California and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2020. Following high school, Bea moved to Washington D.C. to work for the FBI. It was during this time she met Lloyd while he was serving in the Navy. Bea loved sports of all types, but most of all basketball. She played on the Yatesville High School basketball team, competing in the state tournament. When she and Lloyd moved back to Illinois, she worked along side her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed quilting and flower gardening. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pana, the Order of Eastern Star, Christian County Home Extension, and the United Methodist Women. More than anything, Bea was devoted to her family.

She is survived by her children: Michael Washburn (Nora) of Rosamond, Debbie Menn (Rodger) of Ames, Nebraska, Ted Washburn of Portsmouth, Virginia, Lloyd Washburn (Brenda) of Pana, and Mark Washburn of Taylorville; daughter-in-law: Rene Corso of Taylorville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother: Lamont Blount (Annette) of Thomaston, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Daniel Washburn; brothers: James Blount and Cecil Blount; and sisters: Helen Lewis and Jackie LeCroy.

The funeral service for Bea will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 14, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, 114 Maple St., Pana, Illinois with Pastor Nat Kealen officiating. Dorothy Joan Cornell

Dorothy Joan Cornell, 79, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:25 a.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville.

 

Joan was born October 23, 1941 in Springfield, the daughter of Dorothy Ruth (Warnick) and John O. Hardy. She was raised near Mt. Auburn, on a farm west of town. Joan was active in 4-H, showing Scotch Shorthorns at surrounding county fairs. While in high school, she was a member of the band, playing French Horn, and was also on the yearbook staff.

 

Joan graduated from Mt. Auburn High School with the Class of 1959. She attended Lincoln Christian University, and later took some classes in Ag at LLCC. Joan married Walter Allan Cornell on November 4, 1960 at the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ. They had two children, Brent Allan and Stacey A. Cornell. Allan preceded her in death on May 9, 2007.

 

Joan worked as secretary to the principal at the Taylorville Jr. High School. Later she worked there as a library assistant for 7 years. During those 7 years, she also worked with several children with visual problems by helping them with homework. Joan became a Real Estate Salesman in 1976, and started that career working for McNeely Real Estate. At that time, she was also a bookkeeper for them, and continued on as a bookkeeper for Craggs-Curvey. Joan was a realtor also with Bard-Hepburn and Kennedy Real Estate. In 1990, she was hired as bookkeeper for the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. She retired from this job in 2005.

 

Joan was a charter member of the Taylorville Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was the organist and choir director at various times. She was an avid reader, and shared her books with others. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her active. Joan enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores, often taking her friends with her.

 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Harvey and Sophie Warnick; paternal grandparents, John and Loretta Hardy; brother and sister-in-law, Jack A. and Penny Hardy; and brother-in-law, Gary Cornell.

 

Joan is survived by her son, Brent Allan (wife, Janelle) Cornell of Taylorville; daughter, Stacey A. Cornell of Champaign; grandchildren, Justin (wife, Erika) Cornell of Springfield, Brian (wife, Molly) Cornell of Napa, CA, Katie (fiancé, Walker Siempelkamp) Cornell of Stonington, Julie Lauffenburger of Boston, MA, and Wendy Lauffenburger of Benson, NC; 7 great grandchildren; sister, June (husband, Nick) Hardy of Henderson, NV; sister-in-law, Karen Cornell of Taylorville; and nephew, Jon Hardy of Miami, FL.

 

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Taylorville Christian Church, 1124 N. Webster Street, Taylorville, IL 62568. The funeral ceremony will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor James Jones officiating.

 

Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Sue A. Hill

Sue A. Hill, 62 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 6:21 p.m. at her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on September 30, 1958 in Blue Island, IL the daughter of Thomas E. ”Ted” E.Dea and Barbara Ann (McClean) Dea. She married Bryan Hill on September 3, 1977 in St. Damien Church in Oak Forrest, IL. She worked as the Chief Financial Officer at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL.

She is survived by her husband: Bryan Hill of Taylorville, IL; sons: Greg Hill of Taylorville and Scott Hill of Ballwin, MO; sisters: Elizabeth Edrington of Mahomet, IL; Valerie Moreville of Seminole, FL; Diana Good of Lincoln, NE; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Carol Anne "Hathaway" Correll

Carol Ann (Hathaway) Correll, 72, of Morrisonville, passed away due to complications from COVID-19, at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Carol was born December 24, 1948 in Danville, the daughter of Herman and Doris (Hamilton) Hathaway.  She married Danny Correll at the Rossville Methodist Church in 1974.  They had three beautiful daughters, and later divorced.

Carol graduated from Rossville High School in 1967, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s in education from Eastern Illinois University in 1971.  Upon her graduation, she gained employment as an elementary teacher at Morrisonville, where she taught many different grade levels until her retirement in 2004.  After retiring, she worked as a librarian at the Morrisonville schools.  Carol then worked as a special education aide for Mid-State, as well as for Casey’s General Store in Morrisonville for many more years.  To say that she was hard-working would be an understatement.  Carol worked from sun up until sun down for years, to take care of her daughters and grandchildren.  She was selfless, and entirely devoted to her family.  Though she loved shopping, watching HGTV and Hallmark Movies, and was an avid reader (always reading the last chapter first), and her BUNCO club, her greatest joy was being a cheerleader for her grandkids.  Carol rarely missed a sporting event, pageant, or extracurricular activity of any kind.  Family extended to her daughters’ friends and their children, and her grandchildren’s friends.  Carol will always be remembered as a wonderful, devoted, mom and grandma, and second mom to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Heather (Brian Vocks) Vickery of Taylorville, Amanda (Shawn) Christian of Morrisonville, and Malissa (Aaron) Calvert of Taylorville; grandchildren, Trevor Badman, Chase (Shelbi Paul) Vickery, Rhaegan (Matthew Tarrant) Correll, Jett Vickery, and Tate Christian; siblings, Marsha (Ray) Price, Joyce (Don) Hasler, and Mark (Laura) Hathaway, all of Rossville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved dog, Chi Chi.

Terry L. Harbert

Terry L. Harbert, 68, of Taylorville, died on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at his residence.

Terry was born October 6, 1952 in Taylorville, the son of George W. and E. Maybelle (Burns) Harbert. He graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1970, and went to work as an over the road trucker for over 30 years. Over the course of his career, Terry had driven over one million miles, visiting every state but Hawai’i. He married Nancy L. Kemp on September 29, 1986 in Taylorville, and they have enjoyed nearly 35 years of marriage.

Terry’s close friends called him “Habit”. He had an adventurous spirit, but a soft and kind heart. Terry was generous to a fault, and he would do anything for anyone, expecting nothing in return. He loved his dogs, and he loved being outdoors. Terry enjoyed mowing the yard, and he enjoyed ice cold Miller High Life. Terry was a member of the Teamsters Local 916 in Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his father; and grandmother, Josephine Shew.

Terry is survived by his mother, E. Maybelle Harbert of Taylorville; his wife, Nancy L. Harbert of Taylorville; children, Adam (wife, Shayna) Thomason of Skokie, Grant (Katie Hughes) Harbert of Austin, TX, and Hayley (Jimmy Palmer) Harbert of Taylorville; grandchildren, Sophie Joyce Thomason, Owen Palmer, and Otto Palmer; sister, Sandy (husband, Larry) Garmon of Springfield; nephew, Tomey (wife, Lori) Wilson; and great niece and nephew, Jolie and Evan.

Terry will be cremated and no public services will be held at this time.

Glenna M. (Dechert) Lawson, 95 of Stonington passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 9:44 a.m. at her home in Stonington, IL. She was born on January 13, 1926 in Stonington, IL the daughter of Glenn and Mamie (Unser) Dechert. She married Harold Lawson in Stonington, IL and he preceded her in death on November 5, 2000. She worked at the Sangamon Ordnance plant, Blacks Hardware and Borg Warner-Marvel Schebler Division. She was a member of Stonington United Methodist Church and the Christian County Lady Land Owners. Glenna loved to travel and garden.

She is survived by her daughter: Linda DeVore of Stonington, IL; grandchildren: Venise (Dean) McWard of Taylorville, IL, Dr. Leslie DeVore of Stonington, IL; great-grandson: Jacob McWard; sister: Alice (Don) Tirey of Albuquerque, NM; sisters-in-law: Mildred Kilhoffer of Mechanicsburg, IL and Audrey Dechert of Taylorville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins; her beloved caregivers: Julia England, Rita Morgan and Becky Pattarozzi. Ramona Grace Campbell

Ramona Grace Campbell, 78, of Stonington, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 in her home. 

Ramona was born on October 14, 1942, in Loves Park, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth and Marian (Schewe) Buckalew. After earning an Associate’s Degree, she worked as a secretary at Sunstrand in Rockford, Illinois. She married Ronald Dean Campbell on November 26, 1959. Ramona enjoyed reading crime novels and doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms. 

Ramona is survived by her children Randal (Carrie) Campbell of Abingdon, IL, Suzanne (Patrick) Pippin of Florida, and Marian (Mark) Morstatter of Decatur; her sister Linda Partch of Washington; thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, and daughter Paula Borger. 

A funeral service for Ramona and Ronald will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Alter (A.J.) E. Ivy II

Alter “A.J.” E. Ivy II, 17 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:30 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on September 30, 2003 in Taylorville, IL the son of Alter E. Ivy and Jennifer (Fisher) Ivy. He worked as a laborer for Eric Allard Construction. A.J. was a happy kid and was always ready to go! He attended Cornerstone Academy and was enrolled to go to Lincoln Challenge Military School in January of 2022. He was a member of Faith Community Worship Center where he attended church. A.J. was a joker and always tried to make you laugh. He enjoyed listening to music, playing video games, and being with family and friends. A.J. was a protector and was highly family orientated. He had a smile that would melt your heart! He will be truly missed.

He is survived by his Parents: Alter E.
