Elaine Marie (Tachel) Mills-Molen of Taylorville

Elaine Marie (Tachel) Mills-Molen, 91, of Taylorville, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 1:55 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. She was born February 26, 1924 in Kincaid, IL, the Daughter of Jules and Marie (Delmaal) Tachel. She married Ralph Mills on August 1, 1941 in Taylorville and he later preceded her in death on March 13, 1978. She then married Norman Molen in November of 1981 and he also preceded her in death on April 1, 2006. She worked at the Illiopolis ammunition plant during World War II and in 1979 she worked for 20 years at Sandy’s Dress Shop. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her Daughters: Judy (Ernest) Eggerman of Carthage, TX; Sandy (Bill) Boyd of Taylorville, IL; Sharon (Lester) Southard of Blue Mound, IL; Son: Bill (Treva) Mills of Branson, MO; Grandchildren: Terry (Dennis) Brown; Tim (Betty) Britcher; Travis (Kaire) Southard; Carolyn Wetzel; Marla Dowdell; Mandy (Chris) Boyd-Owens; Michelle (Gary) Parks-DeClerck; JoAnna (Dennis) Griffiths; Leslie (Troy) Pencak; Mike Boyd; Debbie (Terry) Black; Doug (Hanna) Eggerman; Dwayne Eggerman; Chrystal (Josh) Hendrix; Bill (Trish) Mills; Chance (Heather) Mills; Thirty Seven Great-Grandchildren; Twelve Great-Great-Grandchildren; Five Step-Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and two sisters: Renee Huston and Maggie Huston.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Mary Lou Smith of Bulpitt

Mary Lou Smith, 88 of Bulpitt passed away at 1:08 PM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born on April 27, 1927 at Chicago the daughter of Henry H. and Mary A. (Derry) Hughes. She was united in marriage to Alexander P. Smith; he preceded her in death on September 1, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Brothers, James Hughes and Rolla Hughes; Sisters, Lorena Davidson and Wanda Dixon.

Mary enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and her flowers. She had many pets throughout her lifetime, and loved each one dearly. Mary was a homemaker.

Survivors include: Son, Michael E. Lawrence of Kincaid, IL; Daughters, Loretta Sue (husband, Randy) Ringo of Staunton, IL and Felicia Unser of Pittsburg, PA; Daughter in law, Shannon Lawrence of Bulpitt, IL; 3 Grandchildren, Branden Lawrence, Cody Ringo and Allison Mathis; 4 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Doris Harrison of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Chad Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home.

Margaret S. Metsker of Owaneco

Margaret S. Metsker 78 of rural Owaneco went to be with her gracious Lord on December 21, 2015 at 10:38 am in her home surrounded by her loving family. 

Margaret was born in rural Filmore, IL to Leo and Irene (Aylward) Singler on February 10, 1937.  She married Don Edward Metsker on March 10, 1957 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Nokomis, IL.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William J. Singler. 

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Don, six children Nancy Handegan (Gerald) Taylorvile, IL, Deborah Jo Metsker-Boydstun (John) Berwick, IL, Catherine Metsker (Grant Basting) Carlock, IL, Dennis Metsker (Christine) Taylorville, IL, Janice Metsker-Galarza (Jorge) Los Fresnos, TX, Timothy Metsker (Kimberly) Owaneco, IL , sister Barbara Niebrugge (Anthony) Effingham, IL. 

Her grandchildren include, Nathan Handegan, Veronica Handegan, Ashley Boydstun, Logan Boydstun, Brant Basting, Reid, Basting, Bryce Basting, Ben Metsker, Cody Metsker, Ty Metsker, Dawniele Metsker Galarza, Madison Metsker Galarza, and Austin Metsker

Margaret is a 1955 graduate of Nokomis High School.  Following graduation she was employed as a professional secretary at Kemper Insurance in Decatur.  After her marriage, she spent her life raising her children and working the family farms.  She was a loving wife and mother to her six children and thirteen grandchildren.  As a co-owner of Mar-Mae Fabrics on the Square in Taylorville and Tel-A-Pair Business Systems of Pana she used her extraordinary organizational and bookkeeping skills. 

Margaret was known as the “unofficial” timekeeper for junior, high school, college, and professional rodeos for several generations of rodeo fans.  She participated in bowling leagues for many years in Taylorville, Pana, and Nokomis leagues.   She enjoyed attending and cheering at sporting events for her grandchildren. 

Margaret was a devoted Catholic.  She received all her sacraments at St. Louis Catholic Church – Nokomis and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Taylorville, IL.  

Margaret was a 4-H Leader and Election Judge for Locust Township.  She was a member of Christian County Lady Landowners, Catholic Daughters of America, Home Extension, and Pana Garden Club.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis with Fr. Dan Willenborg officiating.  Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm on Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  Inurnment will take place on Saturday at the Buckeye Cemetery in rural Owaneco.  McClure Funeral Home is handling arrangements.  

Jennifer Alma Graham of Taylorville

Jennifer Alma Graham, of Taylorville, passed peacefully, at home, surrounded by family on December 19, 2015.  She was born on December 22, 1960, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her father: James William Honea; step father: Harold Conyers; and nieces: Angie and Mary.

Jenny is survived by her husband: James A. Graham, Sr.; mother: Juanita M. Conyers; sons: Billy Jay Williams (Pamela), Robert Lee Williams (Jamie), and Bradley Damon Williams; granddaughter: Alyson Williams; grandson: Steven Williams, all of Taylorville.  Jenny had three brothers and two step children: James A. Graham, Jr. (Barbara) of Holly Hill, Florida and Deanna D. Staton (Aaron) of Floresville, Tx., and many nieces and nephews.

Jenny worked for many years as a caregiver and loved all, and was loved by all.  She was talented in each and every craft that she touched, but Jenny’s passion was her painting-again, loved by all. 

Jenny will be missed by so many.  But for James, she is the love of his life, that once in a lifetime love.  “Jenny- This isn’t goodbye, it’s until we meet again, my love,- James”

Joseph Collins of Taylorville

Joseph Collins, 57, of Taylorville, died at 12:49 a.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 26, 1958, the son of Jimmy and Anna Marie (Tirey) Collins. He married Marcia Jean Hendricks on September 10, 1977, at Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, and she survives. He worked for Caterpillar as a laborer. Joseph loved RC airplanes. He was a member of Christian County Prop Busters, Alpha Omega Auto Sound, and the UAW Local 751. He adored spending time with his grandchildren, and his presence will be dearly missed.

Surviving are: his wife, Marcia Collins, of Taylorville; son, Michael Joseph (Sarah) Collins, of Nokomis; daughter, Angela (Zachary) Lancaster, of Stonington; parents: Jimmy and Anna Collins, of Taylorville; grandchildren: Aiden Collins, Riley Jo Lancaster, Ryanne Lancaster; brothers: Jimmy (Kim) Collins; Tim (Lori) Collins; and John (Marti Hill) Collins.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, December 21, 2015, at McClure Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Myers officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to his family.

Irene Marie Molohon of Taylorville

Irene Marie Molohon, 96 of Taylorville passed away at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville.

She was born on June 7, 1919 at Taylorville the daughter of Walter and Fannie (Hixon) Braughton. Irene married Harlan E. Molohon in 1941 at St. Charles, Missouri; he preceded her in death on January 8, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Daughter, Ronda S. Wiggins; Son, Ronald E. Molohon; Sisters, Dorothy Dooley and Edith “De De” Braughton; Brothers, Woodrow, Ralph, Clifford and Eugene Braughton.

Irene was a homemaker.

Survivors include: 4 Grandchildren, Ron Wiggins Jr. of Springfield, IL, Brad Molohon of Taylorville, IL, Beth Peters of Taylorville, IL and Ryan Wiggins of Rochester, IL; Several great grandchildren; Sister, Ruth Coleman of Taylorville, IL; Several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Reta D. Maras of Kincaid

Mrs. Reta D. Maras, 93, of Kincaid, IL passed away at 11:59 P.M. Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

Reta was born April 9, 1922 in Charlottesville, VA the daughter of Alpha and Reta (Snyder) Miller.  She was involved in Lane High School’s Drama Club in Charlottesville, VA and the University of Virginia’s Drama Club.  A young Miss Miller married Frank M. Maras, Sr. on May 26, 1945 in Charlottesville, VA and they enjoyed 70 years together.

Mrs. Maras along with her husband Frank owned and operated A & W Restaurant in Taylorville for over 20 years.  She attended St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL.  Reta loved writing stories, cooking, spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.  She also enjoyed trips to the riverboats.  Mrs. Maras starred in 1 episode of Unsolved Mysteries that still gets airplay.  She was the last of her set of Miller family members from Charlottesville.

Surviving are her husband Frank M. Maras, Sr of Kincaid, IL; 5 daughters Sandi (Steve) Halvorson of St. James, MN; Vicky (Ben) Martin of Parker, CO; Barbara Maras of San Antonio, TX; Kris (Companion Bill Kennedy) Daugherty of Taylorville, IL; Deanna (Bill) Kowalski of Scottsdale, AZ; 2 sons Frank “Marc” (Debbie) Maras, Jr. of Rochester, IL and Michael Maras of Kincaid, IL along with 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and a granddaughter Jade Nicole Daugherty June 19, 1987.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Ruth Ann Patton of Taylorville

Ruth Ann Patton, 73, of Taylorville, died at 10:15 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation.

Ruth Ann was born May 18, 1942, in Taylorville, the daughter of Clark and Amber (Gamble) Stephens. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Eagles Auxiliary, and the American Legion. Ruth Ann loved a good day of fishing, and she truly enjoyed cooking for others.

Surviving is her son, Robert Tyler, Jr. of Litchfield; cousins: Fred and Dorothy Durbin of Taylorville; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her four brothers: Roger Stephens, Larry Stephens, Darrell Stephens, and Danny Stephens.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at McClure Funeral Home. Pastor Gerald McPhillips will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will take place in Fraley Cemetery. McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Eugene Martin of Taylorville

Thomas Eugene Martin, 63 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 8:12 a.m. at his residence in Taylorville. He was born July 14, 1952 the Son of Clayton N. and June N. McLean Martin Jr. He married Beulah Gaynor on August 22, 2003 in Taylorville, IL.  He worked as a Union Laborer for Local 477.

Surviving are his Wife: Beulah, Sons: Jeff (Leah) Martin of Dalton City, IL; Daughter: Destiny Martin of Taylorville, IL; Granddaughter: Morgan Martin of Dalton City, IL; Brother: Dave (Virginia) Martin; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents.

Arissa Maxine Black of Taylorville

Arissa Maxine Black, 86 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 12:14 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.  She was born May 11, 1929 the Daughter of William Edward and Bertha Elvira (McMann) Stanton. She married William Theodore Black Jr. on August 26, 1946 at the Westside Christian Church in Springfield, IL and he later preceded her in death on October 12, 1998. 

Surviving are his Sons: David (Norma) Black of Palmer, IL; William (Diane) Black of Wilson, AR; Daughter: Marilyn (David) Sutton of Taylorville, IL; Eleven Grandchildren; Ten Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Wilma Yaegar; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband; Brothers, Sisters and her Great-Grandson.

Lois Jean Beckey of Edinburg

Lois Jean Beckey, 86, of Edinburg, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 12:45 a.m. at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL. She was born September 11, 1929 in Pekin, IL, the Daughter of Webster and Gertrude (Hammond) Bowman. She married R. Eugene Beckey on February 7, 1950 in Springfield, IL and he later preceded her in death on June 27, 2009. She worked at Franklin Life Insurance Company for 34 years and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Sharpsburg, IL, American Baptist Women, Lioness Club, “Come Share” Volunteer and UCT.

She is survived by her Daughter: Diane (Jim) Ruffner of Warsaw. MO; Son: Douglas Beckey of Edinburg, IL; one Grandchild; Brother: Gale Bowman of Chatham, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Camille Blakeman of Taylorville

Camille Blakeman, 95, of Taylorville died at 9:42 a.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2015, in her home.

Camille was born on January 10, 1920, in Taylorville, the daughter of Attilio and Clara Bertucci. She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1938. She married Albert G. Blakeman on May 2, 1941, and they enjoyed 53 years together, until his death on April 17, 1994. Camille was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Club, and a 60 year member of Catholic Daughters of America. Camille worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Co. She also worked at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital on the switchboard, and retired from there in 1966. She loved to keep busy by spending time with her family.

Surviving are her children: James Blakeman (Margaret) of Edinburg, IL, Mary Ann McPeek (George) of Edwardsville, IL, Marilyn Ryan (Phil) of Taylorville, and Carolyn Mohn, of Taylorville; siblings: Yolanda Collebrusco of Taylorville, Mafalda Levernier (Bernard) of Spokane, WA, Sonny Bertucci (LaVerne) of Taylorville, Ramona Frisina of Taylorville, and Ronald Mooney (Marilyn) of Pawnee, IL; grandchildren: Michael McPeek (Maureen), James McPeek (Patti), Diane Wilham (Dwight), Sharon Corso, Beth Neville, Susan Thomas (Gavin), Robert McPeek, Rebecca Gregory (Adam), Gregory Ryan (Susie), Ashley Mohn, Christopher Mohn; 21 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Robert Blakeman(Gwen) of Arlington, VA; several nieces and nephews.

G. Merle Shea of Springfield

G. Merle Shea, 89 of Springfield passed away at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield.

He was born on November 21, 1926 at Morrisonville the son of Bernard and Nora (Burch) Shea. Merle married Virginia D. Oller on October 16, 1954 at Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Campbell.

Before his retirement, Merle was National Sales Manager for Rockwell International. He enjoyed playing with the Charlie Rogers Dance Band. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating.

Survivors include: His wife, Virginia Shea of Springfield, IL; Son, Michael (wife, Katie) Shea of Springfield, IL; 6 Grandchildren, Amy, Joel, Patrick, Maggie, Sam and Christopher Shea; Brother, Amos Shea of Oneonta, AL; Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastor Jim Wolfe officiating. Norma Jean King Merriman of Taylorville

Norma Jean King Merriman, 87 of Taylorville passed away at 10:00am, on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Life’s Journey in Taylorville.  She was born on July 7, 1928 in Taylorville, the daughter of Samuel and Margretta Jones King.  She married Derald A. Merriman on June 11, 1949 in Taylorville.  He passed away on March 9, 1996.  Norma worked many years at her parent’s restaurant, Kings Café as well as Country Kitchen.  She was a charter member of Taylorville Evangelical Free Church where she was very active.  She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club and Christian County Republican Women’s Club where she served as chairwoman.  Mrs. Merriman loved to play the piano and shared her talent at church and at area nursing homes.  She also attended Millikin University Conservatory of Music and appeared in the 1st Christian County Senior Citizens Talent Show at Nashville North where she played ragtime piano.  She was the first female drummer in the THS Band playing under the direction of Mr. Wall from 1943 until 1946.  Norma and her husband Derald owned and operated Merri-King Kennels Mini Dachshunds where the kennel produced many champions over the years and were charter members of Lincoln Land Dachshund Club.  She was a fantastic cook and baker and took food and desserts to anyone she knew.  So many people were touched by her piano music, acts of kindness and love and her devotion to Jesus Christ. 

She is survived by her daughters: Gretta Siemers, husband William and Molly Alaria, husband Larry both of Taylorville, and son: Sam Merriman of Taylorville; grandchildren: B Russell Rahar, wife Angie, Rachel Rahar, Lacey Ruggless Swinburne, Austin Alaria, and Lance Alaria; great granddaughter: Elizabeth Rahar; brother: Billy King of Taylorville, cousin Wanda Peddie of Houston TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother: Robert P. King and wife Nelva.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Ruth D. Ferchow of Taylorville

Ruth D. Ferchow, 90 of Taylorville passed away at 4:53 PM on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville.

She was born on September 20, 1925 at Taylorville the daughter of William and Emma (Swedick) Adams. Ruth and Arthur Ferchow were united in marriage; he preceded her in death on February 17, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Brothers, Thomas Adams and William Adams; Sisters, Mary Anne Adams Durbin and Emma C. Adams Adrian: Nephew, David Ferchow.

Prior to her retirement, Ruth worked as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for Taylorville. She also helped her husband with farming. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a graduate of Taylorville High School. She traveled extensively in the America West and was a shooting hobbyist, competing in regional and national trap and skeet shooting events.

Survivors include: Sister, Alice Adams Simpson of Taylorville, IL; Nieces and Nephews, Steven Ferchow of Santa Anna, CA, Elizabeth Adams Person of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada , William Adams of Waldorf, MD, Andrew Adams of Milledgeville, GA, Bonnie Adams Williams of Casa Grande, AZ, Frank Adrian of Portland, OR, Robert Adrian of Quincy, IL, Emmy Adrian Moore of Decatur, IL, Nancy Adrian Smith of Lake Forest, IL, Mary Alice Adrian Nunlist of Cincinnati, OH, Thomas Adrian of Philadelphia, PA, Fred Durbin of Pittsburg, PA and Philip Simpson of Titusville, FL; Many Great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church.

Donald L. Hunt of Taylorville

Donald L. Hunt, 68 of Taylorville passed away at 8:30 PM on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at his home.  He was born January 11, 1947 the son of Steven Leo and Evelyn R. (Ginger) Hunt.  He married Diana Lea Prasun on October 16, 1965 in Taylorville and she survives.  He was the Owner/Operator of Hunt Electric in Taylorville and also loved to hunt and fish. 

Surviving are his Wife Diana,  sons: Tracey D. (Sue) Hunt of Taylorville, IL and Tony A. (Christina) Hunt of Taylorville, daughter: Tammy D. (Keith) Rechner of Springfield, IL, grandchildren Adam (Lexi) Landers, Ashley and Damon Hunt, Claire, Kelsie and Isabelle Hunt, Austin and Cole Hemingway and Elizabeth Rechner, great-grandchildren Beau and Maverick Landers, sister: Loretta Sinnard and her companion Bill, brother: Dennis Hunt and his companion Gloria and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-laws Brad Prasun, Robert Sinnard, sister-in-law Kathleen Hunt, nephew Robin Sinnard and his great-granddaughter Remiann Landers.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL.  Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at Grove City Cemetery in Grove City, IL.
