Katherine Gail Stockon of Taylorville

Katherine Gail Stockon, 57, of Taylorville, IL died at 5:18 am Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Taylorville Care Center.

 

She was born August 14, 1956 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Alpha Leroy and Shirley Ann Myers Blakeman. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington.

 

Surviving are her Son: Rusty Stockon and wife Twilla of Taylorville; Daughters: Heather Taylor and husband Rich of Tuscola, Holly Bradshaw of Lebanon, TN, and Heidi Click of Villa Grove, IL. Father: Leroy Blakeman of Decatur; Grandchildren: Sarah Jo Lemke, David Lemke, Sabrina Taylor, Taylor Crowe, Xavier Click, Skyler Click, Zander Click, Lance Stockon, and Silas Stockon; Brothers: David L. Blakeman and wife Molly of Stonington, and James D. Blakeman and wife Marsha of Pawnee; Sister: Karen Ann Howard and husband Robert of Smithboro, IL. She was preceded in death by her Mother.

 

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 2 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Fr. Alan Hunter and Fr. Joe Molloyofficiating. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Natalilna Sim of Taylorville

Natalilna Sim of Taylorville, IL passed away at 6:55 a.m. on October 29, 2013 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL; the daughter of Louis and Santina (Leone) Camatti. She married James A. Sim on November 27, 1947. he preceded her in passing. She was a retired operator from  the Sangamon Company, a housewife and a member of St.  Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL. She is survived by her sons, James A. Sim of St. Petersburg, FL and Terry A. (Kathy) Sim of Taylorville, IL; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded by her parents, husband, James; sister, Katie Menichetti and brother, Frank Camatti.                                    

Private family services will be held at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL

Barbara Jane Hawthorne of Pana

Barbara Jane Hawthorne, 66 yrs. old, went to meet her Savior on October 28, 2013 at Pana Community Hospital, Pana, IL.  Barbara was born in Vincennes, IN on February 18, 1947 the daughter of Rev. Frank and Mary Hawthorne. Barbara lived with Herman and Dorothy Amos of Edinburg, IL for 32 years. In 2011 she moved to the Park Place Group Home in Pana, IL. Although she was currently residing in a nursing facility in Pana, Barbara still considered the group home as her home. Barbara was a beautiful person who dearly loved her family and friends. She will be missed.
Barbara is survived by her aunts, Esther Johnson, Helen Carter, Barbara Ahlemann, Sue Seidentop, and Rose Clark as well as her Amos foster family, brothers, Earl Amos, Glen Amos, David Amos, and Wayne Amos; sisters, Nora Black, Karol Craig, and Kathy Sheedy/Amos; as well as many Ahlemann and Hawthorne cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Frank and Mary Hawthorne; foster brother, Vernon Amos as well as two brothers, and one sister who died in infancy.

Peggy J. Wilham of Edinburg

Peggy J. Wilham, 80, of Edinburg, IL, passed away on October 26, 2013 at 1:04 a.m. at the Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born June 13, 1933 in Dove, MO; the daughter of Robert and Mabel (Dorbecker) Wilson. She married Melvin Wilham on June 13, 1996 in Baldwin, MO. She was a retired secretary from AT&T, a member of the First Baptist Church in Edinburg, the American Legion Post #300, Women’s Auxiliary , St. Louis, MO, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She is survived by her husband Melvin, son, John David Grove of Creve Coeur, MO; daughters, Carolyn Kathleen Bolder of Eldridge, MO, and Virginia Abigail Mont of Virginia Beach, VA; step-sons, Don Wilham of Edinburg, IL, and Dwight (Diane) Wilham of Taylorville, IL; step-daughter: Denise (Bob) Byrne of Springfield, IL; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Dan Wilson of Kansas City, MO, Jack Wilson of Eldridge, MO, and Charles Wilson of Osceola, MO; sisters, Cora Lee Miller of Osceola, MO, and Louellyn Davis of Lebanon, MO; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one daughter, one sister, and on step-daughter.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will at 3:00 p.m. on October 29, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Denny Hamilton officiating. Burial will be n Steenburgen Cemetery, Mt. Pulaski, IL.

Jerry Lovon Hay of Taylorville

Jerry Lovon Hay, 49, of Taylorville, IL died at 6:30 pm Monday, October 21, 2013 at his residence.

He was born August 10, 1964 in Springfield, IL the son of Lonzy Von and Naoma Lou Day Hay.

Surviving are his children: Jessica Hay and wife Rickie Hay of Springfield, Zachary Hay and wife Katie of Taylorville, Jenna Hay, and Jerry L. Hay, Jr. both of Springfield.  Grandchildren: Jayda Hay, Jaycie Hay and and Zayne Hay. Sisters: Carmen Marie Reid of Deltona, FL and Rosena Kay Mosley and husband Julie Lee of Taylorville.  Niece: Kristina Kay Wertz of Bulpitt, and Nephew Joshua Robert Wertz of Langleyville.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 26 at Crossroads Apostolic Church, 212 Jaycee Drive, Taylorville with Josh Wertz and Jason Hoffman officiating.  McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Victoria S. Ballion of Rochester

Victoria S. Ballion, 57, of Rochester, IL, died at 2:54 pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2013, surrounded by her family, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

She was born May 22, 1956 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Turenne V. “Sonny” and Joyce E. Scholes Ballion.  She was a member of the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ. Vicky retired from he Secretary of State’s office and most recently worked at Help at Home.

Surviving are her Mother, Joyce Ballion of Mt. Auburn; Brother: Alan Reeter and wife Becky of Mt.Auburn, Sister: Jan Hartwig and husband Tom of Niantic, and Vicky’s companion Jeff Barnes of Rochester.  Also surviving are Nieces: Kris Reeter of Seattle, WA, Samantha Hartwig and Sabrina Hartwig of Niantic.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 25 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery with Rev. Melissa Ebken officiating.  There will be no visitation.  McClure Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie R. Emerson of Taylorville

Marjorie R. Emerson, 80 yrs old of Taylorville, passed away at 12:35pm on Monday, October 21, 2013 in Springfield. She was born in Owensboro, KY on April 3, 1933 the daughter of Rev. William and Ruth Swartzwelder. She married Melvin Emerson on May 22, 1954 in Paris, IL. Marjorie was a graduate of Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, IL and graduated as a registered nurse from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL in 1954. Mrs. Emerson was a retired registered nurse, having worked at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, St. Vincent’s in Taylorville, Wagner Castings, Co in Decatur, IL and Intracorp Rehabilitation Co in Springfield before establishing  her own business as an industrial rehabilitation nurse in the private sector dealing with Worker’s Compensation cases in IL and MO before her retirement in December 1995. Mrs. Emerson was a member of the Chatham United Methodist Church where she attended regularly with her two granddaughters and was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Melvin and enjoyed 59 yrs of happiness together.  She is survived by her husband Melvin. Daughter: Susan(Timothy) Nation of Springfield, IL.  Sons: Randyl (Sherry) Emerson of Mahomet, IL,  Ronald (Sharon) Emerson of Cordova, TN and Richard (Laurie) Emerson of Olathe, KS. Brothers: William Swartz and Robert Swartz. Mrs. Emerson is also survived by her grandchildren: Jon and fiancée Melissa of Mahomet, IL  Seth (Ramey) Emerson of Mahomet, IL , Gregory (Jennifer) Emerson of Overland Park, KS, Jessica and Fiance Joel Nation of St. Louis, MO, Samantha (companion Amy) Nation of Springfield, IL and Jordan Emerson of Olathe, KS. She is also survived by four great grandchildren as well as a niece: Cynthia Randolph of Jacksonville and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.  Visitation will be held on October 24, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held on October 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville . Rev. Sara Isbell will be officiating. Shirley B. Roach of Taylorville

Shirley B. Roach, 81, of Taylorville, passed away on October 18, 2013 at 3:42 a.m. surrounded by her loving family at her residence in Taylorville, IL. She was born September 16, 1932 in Johnston City, IL; the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Jones) Lucas. She married Arthur “Sonny” Roach on June 24, 1951 in Taylorville, IL; he preceded her in passing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taylorville where she served as a Deaconess. She also served as Secretary for several years, sang in the Choir, kept records of Baptisms and made the flower arrangements for the alter. She was member of the Christian County Home Extension, the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Taylorville Moose Lodge. She was a community volunteer for Victorian Manor for many years. She loved to play Bridge.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Russell of Taylorville, IL, Debra Roach of Paxton, IL and Kathleen (Randy) Gronewald of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Adam (Erica) Hoerbert of Indianapolis, IN; Sarah (Tim) Roth of Paxton and Cole Evans of Fort Bragg, NC; great-grandchildren, Kara, David, Matthew and Marshal Roth of Paxton, IL; half-brother, Robert Benton of Albuquerque, NM; Half-Sisters, Irene Benton of Eagle Mount, CA, Carolyn Trower of Dallas, TX and Shirley Stinett of Richmond, CA; Brothers-in-law, John (Dot) Roach of Virginia, Howard (Liz) of California, Jim (Janet) Roach of Taylorville, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, special companion, Jim Daughterty. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, Jack Jones and Sonny Lucas; sister, Marilyn Dodd.

Dale McNeely of Taylorville

William Dale McNeely, 78, of Taylorville died at 7:49 pm Thursday, October 17, 2013 at his residence.

 

He was born June 22, 1935 in Louisville, IL the son of William K. and Vera Adeline Dawkins McNeely. On September 13, 1953 he married Juanita Ellen Jensen in Chrisman, IL. Dale was a charter member and Elder of Taylorville Christian Church. He was the principal founder of Kinsella-McNeely-Ryan Insurance and K.M.R.M. Insurance, Christian County’s largest Independent Insurance Agency. Dale served as a board member and past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois and was a recipient of the prestigious Cartwright Award. He was instrumental in negotiating with Governor Edgar and the General Assembly the current state mandatory auto insurance law. Dale was a community leader serving as a board member and past president or chairman of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club, Taylorville Chamber of Commerce (formerly A.C.I.), Taylorville United Way, Taylorville School Board, and St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Board.

 

Dale was a devoted Son, Husband, Father, and Grandfather who loved spending time with his family, friends, and serving his Lord and Savior. He will be remembered as an extremely generous man who freely gave of his time and money to help others.

 

Surviving include: Sons: Michael Dale McNeely and wife Karen of Bel Aire, MD and Gary Allen McNeely and wife Mary Elizabeth of Taylorville; Brother: Charles McNeely and wife Jane of Orlando, FL; Sister: Barbara Pew and husband Ken of Atlanta, GA; Brother-in-law: Robert Dean Jensen and wife Venita Ann of Taylorville; Grandchildren: Kristina Lamanna and husband Phil, Daniel McNeely and wife Sarah, Andrew McNeely and wife Janet, Ryan Flanders and wife Meghan, Ryan McNeely and wife Kristen, Lauren Bredehoeft and husband Joe and Erin Bromley and husband Zach. Great Grandchildren: L. J. Hanson, Fionna Suslee, Adam Lamanna, Caleb McNeely, Thea Suslee, Gabriella Lamanna, Cal Bromley, Noah McNeely, Adelyn McNeely and Sloan Bromley.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 21, 2013 at Taylorville Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday, October 20 at the Church. Mary Alice McCloskey of Edinburg

Mary Alice McCloskey of Edinburg, IL passed away at 2:03 p.m.on October 13, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born the daughter of Erni Jeremiah and  Nita (Henshaw) Knowlton in Birmingham, Alabama. She married Mervin A. McCloskey and he later preceded her in death. Mrs. McCloskey graduated from Milligan College in Milligan, TN. During WW II she served as a volunteer helping wounded veterans at a large Memphis hospital. Mary Alice also produced and directed a theatrical performance presented in Edinburg called "The Womanless Wedding & Beauty Pageant." She spearheaded a fund raising drive to purchase uniforms for the Edinburg High School band and also started the first Cub Scout troop. Along with being parade marshall for Edinburg's first Labor Day Parade (i.e., the (organizer of it), she also enjoyed hosting Halloween parties open to the public for over a decade.  Mrs. McCloskey  is survived by her sons: Lon W. McCloskey and Kenton R. McCloskey. Other than her husband, she was also preceded in death by her mother: Nita K. Rutledge and her sister: Ruth Erni Knowlton. Visitation will be held on October 18, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.in Sutton Memorial Home. Burial will take place in Grove City Cemetery Grove City, IL with Rev. Charles F. McMillen of Springfiled

Charles F. McMillen, 74, of Springfield , IL formerly of Taylorville, passed away on October 14, 2013 at 11:45 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. He was born October 6, 1939 in Taylorville, IL; the son of Raymond & Goldie (Tyler) McMillen. He married Judith Dunkirk on June 30, 1962 in Taylorville, IL. He retired for Peabody Coal Company and from the Illinois Secretary of State Security in 2004. Mr. McMillen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, Knights of Columbus and the United Mine Workers of America. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Springfield, IL; sons, Charles Ray McMillen of Kincaid, IL and Rick Lee (Heather) McMillen of Auburn, IL; daughters, Christina McCubbin of Wapella, IL and Sherry (Brian) Atkins of Pawnee, IL ; grandchildren, Bryce McMillen, Kaitlyn McMillen, Peyton McCubbin, Haven McCubbin and Austin Atkins; sisters, Beulah Durbin of Stonington, IL, Olive (Leland) Oller of Taylorville, IL, Shirley (Joe) Clark of Taylorville, IL and Mary (Steve) Ramey of Valier, IL; brothers-in-law, Gary (Mimi) Dunkirk of Taylorville, IL and Don (Shirley Ann) Dunkirk of Taylorville, IL; sisters-in-law, Ruth Canfield of Taylorville, IL, Linda Bierman of Taylorville, IL, Shirley (Joe) Clark of Taylorville, IL and Mary (Steve) Ramey of Valier, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery, Morrisonville, IL with Military Honors conducted by the Morrisonville American Legion Post #721.

William Bill Richard Funderburk of Morrisonville

William “Bill” Richard Funderburk, 48, of Morrisonville, passed away on October 13, 2013 at 11:05 a.m. at his residence in Morrisonville, IL. He was born January 22, 1965 in Springfield, IL; the son of Alfred & Kay (Ostermeier) Funderburk. He married Stephanie Yonker on January 16, 1998 in Hillsboro, IL. He was a truck driver for Pope Trucking. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping but he loved spending time with his family especially his girls. He is survived by his parents, Alfred & Kay (Ostermeier) Funderburk of Taylorville, IL; wife, Stephanie; daughters, Carley Funderburk and Tessa Funderburk both of Morrisonville; brother, David Funderburk of Hillsboro, IL; sisters, Kathy Gosnell and Janette Funderburk both of Taylorville, IL; niece, Kristin Funderburk of Cape Girardeau, MO; nephew,Aaron Gosnell of Nashville, TN; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by hisgrandparents, John & Kathryn Ostermeier and Lester Ray & Helen Funderburk.

Kathleen Joyce (Elam) Smith of Taylorville

Kathleen Joyce (Elam) Smith, 71, of Taylorville, went to be with the Lord at 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2013 in her home with her family attending.She was born September 20, 1942 in Edinburg, IL; the daughter of Charley and Opal Irene (Steck) Elam.She graduated from Taylorville High School with the Class of 1960 and she later attended Eastern Illinois University. She passed many insurance classes and attained her real estate license in 1990 and achieved her broker’s license in 2012. Kathy also helped with the Taylorville Christmas Home Tour and the Christian County Senior Citizens Pub Stool Open. She donated 15.5 gallons of blood through Central Illinois Blood Bank over the years.She was a Real Estate Broker with Kennedy Real Estate, and past Sales associate for Bard Hepburn Real Estate, McNeely Real Estate, KMRM Insurance CSR and Secretary for Country Companies.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Taylorville, Women of the Moose-Taylorville Chapter, the National Association of Realtors, Capitol Area Association of Realtors and accredited Buyer Representative, Illinois Federation of Business Women (formerly B.P.W.) for 47 years, the 1960 Taylorville Class Reunion Committee, and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Kathy was a member of the cancer group at the Taylorville United Methodist Church and was a regular member of Joyce’s Breakfast Club. She was the founding member in 1995 of the Wall Street Wizards.

Sally A Combs, 80, of Taylorville passed away at 4:00 A.M. Saturday October 5, 2013 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  She was born June 29, 1933 in Taylorville, the daughter of Arthur and Wilma Lawler Thomas.  She married Robert D Williams on December 31, 1955.  He preceded her in death on May 23, 1958.  On April 20, 1962 she married David W Combs in Hillsboro, Illinois.  Mrs. Combs was a retired homemaker.  She was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, and The Taylorville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.   

 

She is survived by her husband, David Combs of Taylorville; Children: Kelley Williams Davidson, husband John, of Springfield, Shawne Combs Woodard of Tremont, and Shad Combs, wife Patti Quinn of Pendleton IN; Grandsons: Jacob Davidson and Charlie Woodard; Granddaughter: Wesley Woodard; Sister: Pat McCollum, husband Gene, of Taylorville; Brother: John Thomas, wife Pat, of Ballwin MO; Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and first husband Robert Williams.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 A.M., Tuesday October 8, 2013 at the Taylorville First United Methodist Church with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.  Visitation will be on Monday from 4 until 7 P.M. at McClure Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.  McClure Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
