Sharon S. Christian of Taylorville

Sharon S. Christian,  69, of Taylorville, formerly of Morrisonville, passed away on May 30, 2014 at 1:47 a.m. at her residence inn Taylorville, IL. She was born on December 13, 1944 in Springfield, IL;  the daughter Roy H. and Prudence J. (Johnson) Scott. She married  Jerry R. Christian on June 8, 1963 in Morrisonville, IL at the First Baptist Church.  He preceded her in passing on May 21, 2006.  She was a loving mother and homemaker.


She is survived by her son, Todd (Michelle) Christian of Cole Camp, MO; grandchildren: Ashley, Teanna, Dylan and Dalton; brother: Ron Scott of Austin, TX; sister: Sandy (Jerry) Waters of Springfield, IL; sisters-in-law: JoAnn (Frank) Lacy of TN, Jane (Arwin) Langen Voss of Raymond, IL and  Judy Lairson of Palmer, IL;   brother-in-law: Jack Christian of Morrisonville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in passing by her parents. husband: Jerry; sisters: Virginia Theobald, Charlotte Brown and Joyce Stilenbaur and Beverly Lutes.


Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Don Baker  officiating.  Burial will be at Anderson Cemetery in rural Palmer, IL.

Deanna D. Bails of Harvel

Deanna D. Bails, 76 of Harvel passed away at 4:07 AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born on November 6, 1937 at Prophetstown, IL the daughter of Frank L. and Raine (McDonald) Dudley.. She married E. Richard Bails on June 14, 1959 at Prophetstown; he preceded her in death on September 13, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Brothers, Robert, James and Gene Maxfield.

Deanna graduated from Prophetstown Community High School in 1955. She received her RN degree at Lutheran Hospital School of Nurses in Moline in 1958 and was Ob/Gyn charge nurse at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville following graduation. She also worked in an Ob/Gyn physicians office in Urbana. Deanna and Richard engaged in farming throughout their married life and were members of First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville. Deanna enjoyed gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending parades during Richard’s years with Ansar Shrine’s Three-Wheelers and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include: Daughters, Lisa (Lynn) Waldeck of Farmersville, IL and Linda (Curt) Poe of Williamsville, IL; Sons, Steven Bails of Raymond, IL and Jim (Annette) Bails of Springfield, IL; Grandchildren, Jarrod (Kara) Waldeck, Aaron (Briana) Waldeck, Jessica Waldeck, Nathan Waldeck, Caleb Poe, Joshua Bails, Drew Bails, Lauren Bails, Keenan Gilpin and Morgan Bails; Sister in law, Mary Ellen Wernsing of Springfield, IL

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville with Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating. Burial will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Perfetti Funeral Home in Morrisonville.

James Paul Gaines of Taylorville

James Paul Gaines,  74, of Taylorville, passed away on May 25, 2014 at 2:38 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on May 29, 1939 in Springfield, IL;  the son William Bowman and Edith Gaines. He was a Barber and a Painter. He wrote many songs and was an accomplished musician. He was a life-long Barber and has owned and operated Paul’s Barber Shop in Taylorville for many years.


He is survived by his companion, Debbie Smith; daughters: Tracy Woods and partner Thomas Perry of Taylorville, IL and Ashley Gaines and partner Sam Shubba of Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Mason James Millburg, Jeffrey Paul (Lacey) Millburg and Kateland Nichole Utterback; great grandchildren: Ahmsher Nya Utterback, Madison Rae Millburg, and Alexander Lowell Millburg; nieces and nephews: Tina Heslop, David Alwardt and Dale Alwardt. He was preceded in passing by his parents and sister, Naomi Alwardt.


Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Ted Chapman officiating.

Charles Gordon Brown of Pana

Charles “Gordon” Brown,  92, of rural Pana, IL, passed away on May 26, 2014 at 1:05 a.m. at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1921 in Taylorville, IL;  the son William and Blanche (Denning) Brown. Mr. Brown attended Centenary College in Shreveport, LA where he played basketball and football.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater from 1942 until 1945. He married  Bernadine Kendle; she preceded him in passing in 1985. He then married Jo Ann Nelson on November 21. 1986 in Taylorville.  He was a retired farmer and County Zone Officer for Christian County. He was a member  of  Leslie-Reddick American Legion Post # 721  in Morrisonville for over 50 years as well as Taylorville VFW Post #4495 for over 65 years. Mr. Brown was a member of Morrisonville Lodge #681 A.F. & A.M. and the Ansar Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. of Springfield, IL.


He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Brown of rural Pana, IL; sons: Charles G. (Cheryl) Brown of NC and Kendall L. (Nancy) Brown of NC; step-son: Kent A. (Jill) Bragg of Rochester, IL; step-daughter: Kelly L. (Gary) Brown of Taylorville, IL; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; special friend: Carson Wilhour. He was preceded in passing by his parents, first wife, Bernadine; brother: Dale Brown; sister: Kathryn Brown and nephew: Mike Brown.


Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 8:00 p.m..
Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with officiates Sister Rose McKeown and John Nelson Chaplains. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Military Honors by  AMVETS Post #29, American Legion Post #73, VFW Post #4495 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral and Honors Detail.

Alex W. Morgan of Taylorville

Alex W. Morgan, 97, of Taylorville, IL died at 11:06 pm Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

He was born September 4, 1916 in Taylorville, IL the son of Alex and Ethel May Oller Morgan. On December 24, 1938 he married Mary Elizabeth Boyd. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2013. Alex was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville. He was also a former Boy Scout leader, a member of the Taylorville Municipal Band for over 50 years and a member of the Naples, FL Municipal Band for 13 years.

Surviving is his son: Richard L. Morgan and wife Nila, Daughter Mary Frances Morgan, and Daughter-in-law: Kathy Morgan all of Taylorville. There are Seven Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Robert Morgan, and Brother: Tom Morgan.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville with Rev. Jeff Grote officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday in McClure Funeral Home.

Ethel (Lorenz) Steele of Taylorville

Ethel (Lorenz) Steele,  87, of Taylorville, passed away on May 19, 2014 at 11:46 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on May 23, 1926 in Taylorville, IL;  the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Armstrong) Lorenz. She married  Clifford G. Steele on March 14, 1946 at the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, IL. She was a homemaker and a member of the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Gordon) Gesell of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Travis Woods (companion Kippy) of Hilton Head, SC and Troy (Sherry) Woods of Taylorville, IL; great grandchildren: Kyle, Tyler, Cole and Alexis; step-grandchildren: Stacie, Katie, and Joshua; sisters: Hattie Adams of Taylorville, IL and Marietta (Jake) Watson of Decatur, IL; sister-in-law: Jean Steele of Palmer, IL; brother-in-law: Biggen (Lenore) Steele of Palmer, IL; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband: Clifford and granddaughter: Trisha Woods.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, IL with Rev. Bill Kerns officiating. Roberta Louise (Hayes) Sanders,  90, of Taylorville, passed away on May 18, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 10, 1924 in Ramsey, IL;  the daughter of  Oral and Ethel (Hill) Hayes. She married LeRoy Sanders on November 9, 1940 in Ramsey, IL.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, IL.


She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Sanders of Taylorville, IL; daughter: Sandra (Rick) Kaiser of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Ronda (Brent) Thomas, Kim Gobble and Aaron Copeland; great grandchildren: Jake, Blake, Josh, Maddison, Brayden, Jared, Bayli and McKinlee; brothers: Leo (Juanita) Hayes and Rex (Mary Jean) Hayes both of Ramsey, IL; sisters: Barb Jackson of Taylorville, IL and  Betty (Troy) Radford of Pana, IL. LeRoy Newton Sanders of Taylorville

LeRoy Newton Sanders,  94, of Taylorville, passed away on May 19, 2014 at 5:15 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on July 27, 1919 in Nokomis, IL;  the son Jasper Newton and Jessie (Wilson) Sanders. He married  Roberta Hayes on November 9, 1940 in Ramsey, IL. She preceded him in passing on May 18, 2014. He was a Farmer and a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville, IL.

He is survived by his daughter: Sandra (Rick) Kaiser of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Ronda (Brent) Thomas, Kim Gobble and Aaron Copeland; great grandchildren: Jake, Blake, Josh, Maddison, Brayden, Jared, Bayli and McKinlee; brother: Burel Sanders; sister: LaVeda Hicks. He was preceded in passing by his parents, brothers: Oral Sanders and Cledis Sanders; sisters: Beatrice Hicks and Blanche Cearlock.

Ina Ellen Norris of Taylorville

Ina Ellen Norris 92, of Taylorville, IL died at 9:15 am Monday, May 19, 2014 at her residence.

She was born December 31, 1921 in Ramsey, IL the daughter of Melvin Richard and Lilly Berniece Sanders Ishmael. On May 2, 1954 she married Paul S. Norris, Sr. in Taylorville. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1981. She was a housewife, dedicated mother, and farm wife. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, bingo, her flower beds, and crafts. She made her house a home that showed her family love in every way. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and Christian County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are her children: Linda Linenfelser and husband Tom of Quincy, Sandra Smith and husband Les of Taylorville, Sheila Riva and husband Wesley of Kincaid, and Paul Norris and wife Cindy of Taylorville. Grandchildren: Jacob Linenfelser, Eric Linenfelser, Leigh Linenfelser, Ronald Smith, Jill Wilson, Andrew Smith, Sarah Norris, Rosie Altersberger, Mitzi Altersberger, and Victor Altersberger. There are 8 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Grandchildren, and 4 Step Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Brothers: Russell Ishmael, Laverne “Bernie” Ishmael, and Sisters, Donna West, Evelyn Maryfield, and Betty Oliver.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday in McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. There will be a prayer service 3:45 pm.

Leroy Argo of Taylorville

Thomas Leroy Argo, 49, of Taylorville, IL died at 7:41 am Monday, May 19, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 24, 1965 in Taylorville, the son of Henry Douglas and Beulah Katherine Hancock. On July 3, 2002 he married Karen Lynn Tester in Taylorville. Leroy loved drag racing, motorcycles and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of Taylorville; Brother Bob Argo of Kincaid; Nephews: Alan Argo and wife Kelly of Springfield and Tom Oller of Taylorville; Nieces: Teresa Oller of Bloomington and Wendy Oller of Taylorville; Great Nieces and Great Nephews: Cooper Argo, Camdan Argo, Marissa Burkey, Will Burkey, McKenna Burkey, and Jonathan Gattuso. Brother-in-law: Bill Dickey and wife Deby of Taylorville, and Sister-in-law: Joani Durbin and husband Robert of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

At Leroy’s request there will be no services or visitation. He desired to be cremated.

Donna Jean Culp of Moweaqua

Donna Jean Culp, 68, of Moweaqua, IL died at 4:03 pm Saturday, May 17, 2014 at her residence.

She was born February 14, 1946 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Donald E. and Esther Louise Blakeman Spain. On June 3, 1983 Donna married Gary L. Culp at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Decatur. She was a former foster parent for over 30 years and had taken care of over 40 children. She had also been a lab tech at Asgrow, Continental Grain, and A.D.M.

Surviving are her husband, Gary L. Culp of Moweaqua; Daughters: Christina Hood and husband David of Rochester, and Catherine Blessent and husband Tony of Taylorville; Son: Christian David Culp of Moweaqua; Brother: Donald C. Spain and wife Alice of Mt. Zion. Grandchildren: Tyler Moffett of Stonington, Emma Hood and Claire Hood of Rochester, Hailey Smith and Paityn Blessent both of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister: JoAnn L. Buck and Brother: Ronald E. Spain.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 22 at Joy Assembly Church in Stonington with Rev. Tim Moats officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery.

Doreen M. Boyd of Taylorville

Doreen M. Boyd, 90 of Taylorville passed away at 1:20 AM, Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville.  She was born  on February 7, 1924 in Newaygo County, Michigan  the daughter of Herman and Emma (Norquist) Hubrecht.  She married B. Remane Boyd in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 9, 1947 and he preceded her in death on September 29, 2012. She was a member of the Grace Memorial Church in Edinburg.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her daughters: Sharon (Michael) Broggie of Prescott, AZ; Carlene (James) Wallace of St. Petersburg, FL and Diane (Alan) Stender of Taylorville, IL; six  grandchildren eight great grandchildren; sister: Irene Plaisier of Pearson, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and  brother-in-law: William Plaisier.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.  at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL.
Funeral services will follow  at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home with Pastor Ken Lawson officiating.  Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Sharpsburg, IL.

Margaret H. Ortman of Taylorville

Margaret H. Ortman, 93 of Taylorville passed away at 11:32 AM, Monday, May 12, 2014 at her home.  She was born March 15, 1921 in Carlyle, IL daughter to Benjamin and Annie (Schneider) Ortman.  She had worked many years in housekeeping at St. Vincent’s Hospital and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by several Nieces, Nephews and Great Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Siblings: Anthony, Adelle, Paul, Edwin and George Ortman, Marie Grass and Katherine “Kat” Kolak; Nephew Peter and Great Nephew Brandon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM, Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Father Mariadas Chatla officiating.  Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the time of services at 11:30 AM, Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville.

Harold L. Daugherty of Taylorville

Harold L. Daugherty, 91, of Taylorville, IL died at 10:40 pm, Friday, May 9, 2014 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville.

He was born July 27, 1922 in Bridgeport, IL, the son of Charles W. and Iva G. Welker Daugherty.  Mr. Daugherty was employed by Ashland Oil Company and retired in 1984.  He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army, and a member of V.F.W. Post 4495.

Surviving are his daughters: Gaye E. Long and husband Dennis and Sandra J. Hall and husband Stephen all of Rochester; Sister: Carol Westerfield of Danville; Grandchildren: Christa Ziegelbein and husband Chad, Nicole Long, Kyle Hall and Kelsey Hall.  There are four Great Grandchildren: Myla Bigelow, Adeline Storey, Chloe Ziegelbein, and Codey Casad

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 13, at McClure Funeral Home Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service in the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial with military honors will be in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens.

Harold Edward Gordon of Stonington

Harold Edward Gordon,  87, of Stonington, IL, passed away on May 8, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at his residence. He was born on June 2, 1926 in Hammond, IN;  the Edward Wiburn and Daisy Fern (Reynolds) Gordon. He married  Arlene M. Sailsbery on February 11, 1956 in Stonington, IL. He was a retired Millwright of Local #1043 in Hobart, IN.  Harold graduated from High School in Phoenix, AZ in 1944. Ten days later he entered the United States Navy where he was honorably discharged in 1946. He has worked as a Millwright in Hobart, IN. He and his wife had lived in Hammond, IN for forty-three years until they moved to the Stonington area in 1998. He enjoyed the country life and his retirement. Harold loved his Grace Baptist Church Family and the many friends he made there. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville and the American Legion Lodge Post #257 in Stonington, IL.


He is survived by his wife, Arlene Gordon of Stonington, IL; sons: Edward Lee (Janice) Gordon of St. John, IN and Thomas Lee (Debra) Gordon of Lansing, IL; grandchild: Matthew (Carol) Movre of Byhalia, MS; sister: Peggy (Richard) Wilson of Crown Point, IN; nieces: Laura (Dan) Ostergard of Stewartville, MN and Carolyn Wilson of Crown Point, IN; nephew: Scott Neal Wilson of Chattanooga, TN. He was preceded in passing by his parents.

William Bill David Cooper of Taylorville

William “Bill” David Cooper  72, of Taylorville, passed away on May 7, 2014 at 8:35 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born September 29, 1941 in Springfield, IL; the son William and Gladys (Roberts) Cooper.  He married  Jean Lowe on June 1, 1963.  He was  the Dietary Manager at the Taylorville Correctional Center in Taylorville, he previously worked for Eisner/Jewel in Springfield and Decatur.  He was a member of Taylorville Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M. and the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. Bill loved to hunt, fish, read and travel by train. He prided himself on learning something new every day. In his younger years he was an avid Coon Hunter and took pride in his Night Champion Coon Hound “Flat Branch Joker”. He was also an avid Fighting Illini and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren,


He is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Jean Cooper of Taylorville, IL; sons: Craig Cooper of Taylorville, IL and Jeff (Twila) Cooper of Marion, IL; grandchildren: Kayla and Ryan Cooper of Taylorville, IL. He was preceded in passing by his parents and brother, Mike Cooper.


Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Masonic Rite by Taylorville Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M. Pastor Randy Sands will officiate the services. Suzette Renee Shroyer of Irving

Suzette Renee Shroyer,  49, of Irving, IL, passed away on May 7, 2014 at 6:21 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born on July 5, 1964 in Taylorville, IL;  the daughter of  James Richard and Sharon (Sparling) White Sr. She married  Daniel Shroyer on December 18, 1982 in Irving, IL.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel of Irving, IL; brother, James (Christina) White of Irving, IL; niece, Kandra White of Irving, IL; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in passing by her  parents, sister, Lynette White and niece, Jesica R. Luttrell.

John V. Lamb of Taylorville

John V. Lamb, 90 of Taylorville passed away at 12:35 PM Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Taylorville, IL.  He was born November 23, 1923 in Kincaid, IL. The son of James and Gertrude (Durbin) Lamb. John had retired as an Auto Mechanic.


He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie (Roger) Dempsey of Perris, CA along with many local relatives.


Private Graveside Services will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Jane Gilpin of Decatur

Jane Gilpin, 83 of Decatur, formerly of Taylorville passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 8:10 PM at her home.  She was born October 28, 1930 daughter of Paul and Irene (Hayes) Schnute.  She married Kenneth E. Gilpin on March 11, 1953 in Taylorville, IL. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2012.


She is survived by her daughters: Diana (Matt) McLemore of Taylorville, IL; Carol (Richard) Mullvain of Urbana, IL and Cathy (Bill) Kaigley of Dalton City, IL; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters: June (Delmar) McDonald and Joyce (Ralph) May; several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Kenny Gilpin and sister: Dee Lewis.
Jane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville and the Order of the Eastern Star.  She loved to play Bingo, but her greatest love was her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 9:00 until  11:00 a.m. at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.     

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor John Cook officiating.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.

George Christian Castro of Henderson, Nevada

George Christian Castro, 78, of Henderson, Nevada and formerly of Geneseo, loving husband of Carmen Castro, passed away on November 9th, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.  Per his request cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded.  Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate.  Private inurnment will be at a later date in Robinson, IL.  Memorials may be left to the George Castro Memorial Fund.

George was born in Hong Kong on May 24, 1935 and with his sister Dani survived the war in Macau, China. He emigrated to the United States in 1948 with his sister and her husband Merv Law.   After a stint in the Air Force he attended Eureka College where he was second in his class. He gained a BA in Education and later a Masters at the University of Illinois. He began his career in teaching at Roanoke Benson and went on to be a Principal for 29 years in Verona, Momence, Cornell, Mount Sterling, and Andalusia. He retired at age 65 after 38 years working in education to Geneseo, IL. He loved to hunt and fish, and to golf at the Geneseo Country Club. He won 22 trophies for various golf events.

Survivors include his wife: Carmen; 3 sons: Brett Price, Tony Castro, and Chet Price; and 5 grandchildren.

Linda L. Rhodes of Morrisonville

 Linda L. Rhodes, 73, of Morrisonville, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at 9:58 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL.

She was born April 21, 1941, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of William Roy & Mary (Roush) Curtis Beam. She married Darrell Wayne “Dusty” Rhodes on July 25, 1959 in the Pawnee Methodist Church and they were married 51 years before his death on September 21, 2010.

She is survived by her son, Michael W. Rhodes of Findlay, IL.; daughters, Vicki L. (Jeff) Dorn of Rossville, IN and Dawnna J. (Curt) Corzine of Assumption, IL.; grandchildren: Kristen (Craig) Dilley, Amy Dorn, Catherine Rhodes, Bobby Dorn, Caleb Corzine, and Kaitlyn  Corzine; great-grandchildren, Hunter Jo Harp, Ryleigh Ann Rhodes, and Hunter Grant Dilley; brothers, Keith (Marti) Curtis, and William (Kathy) Beam, Jr.; sisters-in-law. Barbara Curtis, Lois (Harold) Edge, and Mildred Rhodes; brothers-in-law, Dale (Arlene) Rhodes and John “Jock” Brawner; two long-time dear friends who were her sisters in Christ, Genelle Hays and Lena Wiggins; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrell Wayne “Dusty” Rhodes; brother, Glen D. Curtis; sisters, Geneva Davis, Marcella Griffin, Jean Brawner, and Jane Castle; brother-in-law, Donnie Rhodes.

Linda was a woman who loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and body. She was a woman of faith, a woman of prayer and of the Word. She left her family with a wonderful heritage to carry on. She loved her life out out the farm where she and her Husband worked and raised their family. She worked in her garden, yard, flowers, and just enjoyed being outdoors taking in God’s handiwork. She loved eating at Country Kitchen on her outings to Taylorville and finishing up at Tastee Treet with either a butterscotch sundae or chocolate milkshake with extra chocolate.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home in Taylorville, IL.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL with Pastor Jack Hannum officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL.

Roger Kenneth Thomas of Taylorville

Roger Kenneth Thomas, 62, of Taylorville, IL passed away on May 1, 2014 at 10:13 p.m. at 923 East, 1250 North Road, Taylorville, IL.  He was born on May 20, 1951 in Springfield, IL;  the son of Billy J. and Helen Marie (McWhinnie) Thomas. He married Marcia Hadley on June 20, 1986. They were divorced on January 28, 2003. He graduated from Vermillion Community College with a Bachelors Degree in Parks and Recreation. Roger served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran receiving the Bronze Star. He was retired, having worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur, IL and LTV Steel Mine in Hoyt Lakes, MN. He was a member of VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville, IL.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Thomas of Clayton, AL; daughter: Tiffany M. Thomas-Taylor of Taylorville, IL; step-daughter: Terri Luetzow of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren: Shiloh Thomas, Phoenix Martin, Tristan Thomas, Jayce Thomas and Logan Neville all of Taylorville, IL; brothers: Paul (Cindy) Thomas of Clayton,  AL and Edward (Ann) Thomas of Kincaid, IL; sister: Barbara Wood of Clayton, AL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father, Billy J. Thomas.

Francis K. Van Hooser of Taylorville

Francis K. Van Hooser  73, of Taylorville, IL passed away on April 30, 2014 at 10:46 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on August 27, 1940 in Edinburg, IL;  the son John and Katherine (Shivers) Van Hooser. He married  Judy Heberling on October 29, 1960 in Taylorville. Francis served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ashland LSD #1 During the Korean Conflict..He was retired from  Peabody Mine #10. He was Baptized in the  First Baptist Church in Taylorville. He was a member of the Edwin Corpin American Legion Post #905 in Kincaid, IL; the Arcana Chapter #493 – Order of the Eastern Star; Moose Lodge #1516 in Taylorville, the United Mine Workers of America and a Lifetime Member of  Taylorville Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M. He loved antiquing and riding his motorcycle.


 He is survived by his wife, Judy Van Hooser of Taylorville, IL; daughters: Rebecca Smith and Annette Van Hooser both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Heide (Troy) Achenbach and  Jennifer Smith and companion Pat Dilley; six great grandchildren; brother: Ed Van Hooser of Tower Hill, IL; sisters: Dolores “Patty” (Norman) Klaus of St. Peter, Mo; Virginia “Ginny” (Virgil) Saltz of Caldwell, ID; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents, and sister-in-law: Mary (Beck) Van Hooser.

Richard Alexander Rozek of Taylorville

Richard Alexander Rozek,  88, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on April 28, 2014 at 10:48 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on July 12, 1925 in Chicago, IL. The son of Edward and Anna (Busu) Rozek.  He married  Lila J. Whennen on September 8, 1951 in Chicago, IL.  He was a Draftsman and  Purchasing Agent in Orange, CA. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL.


He is survived by his wife, Lila of Taylorville, IL; niece: Lori Andrews of Darien, IL  He was preceded in passing by his parents and two sisters.                
Graveside Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating.
