Keith Eugene Swigert of Pantego, TX

Keith Eugene Swigert, 76, of Pantego, TX. formerly of the Decatur and Taylorville area, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 8:14am at Community Hospice of Texas, Ft. Worth.  He was born April 12, 1935 in Taylorville, the son of Elmer L. and Betty M. Miller Swigert.  He married Helen V. Carr in April, 1961 in the Sharon United Methodist Church in Decatur.  She preceded him in death in November, 2011.  Mr Swigert was employed in the automotive sales and service profession.  He was a veteran of the National Guard.

He is survived by his son Mike Swigert and wife Tammy of Rockwall, TX.; 3 grandchildren; brothers, Lyle Swigert and wife Anne of Stonington, Donald Swigert and wife Faraby of Tremont, Roy Swigert and wife Carole and Wayne Swigert and wife Judy all of Taylorville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister Suzanne Walker.

Graveside services will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 1:00pm at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joel Lohr officiating.  There will be no visitation.

Mary Rita Burkhart of Taylorville

Mary Rita Burkhart, of Taylorville, IL died on Tuesday February 21, 2012 at 3:00a.m. at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL. She was born July 18, 1918 in Jamestown, ND.  She married Gale L. Burkhart in Michigan.  He preceded her in death on June 6, 1970.  She was a retired housekeeper from Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville, IL.  She was a seamstress, she loved to travel and would road trip at the drop of a hat.  She loved country music, she hated yellow cars and she had a keen sense of humor.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, Catholic Daughters of America, Altar and Rosary Society.  She was also member of the Red Hats Society.

She is survived by Sons: Gale (Mary Sue) Burkhart of Kincaid, IL; and Thomas A. (Rena) Burkhart of Taylorville, IL. Daughters; Anna M. (Dennis) Gregory of Macon, IL and Rosemary (Skeet) Doubles of Stonington, IL. Grandchildren: Tiffany Burkhart, Joshua Burkhart, Dennis P. Gregory, William Gregory, Brian Gregory, Joel E. Gregory, Stephen L. Gregory, Charlie Burkhart, Matthew Burkhart, Tyler Burkhart, Zachariah D. Younker, Kendra M. Younker and Cassidy J. Younker; Great-Grandchildren: 16; and one Great-Great Grandchild.  She was preceded in death by husband: Gale and Son: James Lee

Lee Don Peters of Taylorville

Lee Don Peters, 80, of Taylorville, IL passed away Monday Feb. 20, 2012 at 4:49 pm at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born May 22, 1931 in Taylorville, IL  to Melvin Peters & Gladys (Max) Carbagal.  He married Mary McArdle on April 29, 1949 in the Davis Christian Memorial Church in Taylorville.  He owned Biermann's Awning, he worked at Hopper Paper Co. and retired from Peabody Coal Company.  He loved family and especially his grandchildren.  He loved fishing, woodworking, wood carving, bird watching and reading.  He was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville and the United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by Sons: Rick Peters of Taylorville, IL and Mannie (Vicki) Peters of Marion, IN. Daughters: Sheryl (Michael) Lamb of Lake Wales, FL, Debie (Daryl) Keiser of Nokomis, IL, Ellen (Carl) Wets of Russell, IA, Barbie Stewart and companion Troy Hunsley of Taylorville, IL, Carole (Scott) Brown of Nokomis, IL.  Grandchildren: 18; Great-Grandchildren: 26; Great-Great Grandchildren 2; several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie L. Burch of Taylorville

Ronnie L. Burch, 73,  of Taylorville, IL died February 20, 2012 @8:02 at the Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.  He was born October 1, 1938 in Georgetown, IL to Henry M and Fern G. (Dowers) Burch.  He married Kathy Knazavich on January 7, 1964.  He was with Security at Sangamon Card Company and the FBI office.  He loved to go fishing.

He is survived by Sons: Terry (Kathy) Gurley of Eustis, FL, Ron Gurley of Effingham, IL, Gene Burch of Springfield, IL, Tim Burch (Diane) Burch of Taylorville, IL.  Daughters: Rose (Randy) Claflin of Heyworth, IL, Deborah (Larry) Downing of Taylorville, IL.  Grandchildren, 11; Great-Grandchildren, 8; Sister, Dorris (Eddie) Hughes of Taylorville, IL.  and several Nieces and Nephews.  He was preceded in death by parents, wife: Kathy.

Carl Frederick Fred Ronnow Jr. of Taylorville

Carl Frederick “Fred” Ronnow Jr., 71, of Taylorville, passed away February 17, 2012 at 8:05pm at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born January 10, 1941, the son of Carl Frederick and Margery (Peterson) Ronnow. He was the CEO and President of the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce. Fred was proud to be a Taylorville resident and was instrumental in building relationships and developing opportunities in the community. He was an avid golfer who proved that skill level is not essential to having a great time on the golf course. Fred was also an active member of Taylorville Kiwanis and Ansar Shrine of Springfield. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by daughter: Rebecca Lyn (Todd) King of Cincinnati, OH, brother: Stan (Karen) Ronnow, sisters: Carla Houchins; Marjanna Ronnow, nieces and nephews:  Kelly Ronnow, Bradley (Angel) Ronnow, and Jason (Rhonda) Ronnow. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 11:00am, at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville with Military Honors. Reverend Dick Wamsley will be officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00p, at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Marie Henson Goessler of Taylorville

Marie Henson Goessler, 80, of Taylorville, passed away February 14, 2012 at 3:40pm at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville.  She was born October 20, 1931 in MO., the daughter of Donald and Mamie (Gould) Burt.  She married Marvin Henson in February, 1949.  She was a retired homemaker.

She is survived by sons; Michael (Shirley) Henson of Warrington, MO and Garry (Pam) Henson of Maryland Heights, MO.; daughter, Donna (Bob) Walters of Taylorville; brother Jay Burt of Park Hills, Mo; 6 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and seversl nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00pm in Horton-Wampler Funeral Home in Park Hills, MO.  Interment will be in Huff Cemetery in Sabula, MO.  Visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 10:00am-2:00pm at Horton-Wampler Funeral Home in Park Hills, MO.

Marcella Dunlap of Taylorville

Marcella Dunlap, 89, of Taylorville, passed away February 15, 2012 at 8:10am at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville.  She was born December 25, 1922 in Taylorville, the daughter of John and Mae (Yockey) Prasun.  She married Roy Dunlap in December, 1944 in Taylorville.  She was retired from the Sangamon Card Company in Taylorville.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by granddaughter Susan (Sean) McNin of Atlanta, GA. and great-grandson Aidan.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Roy, daughter; Marietta Welge, brother Wilbur Prasun, sister, Darlene Marsaglis and brother-in-law Tom Marsaglia.

James R. Dodson of Taylorville

James R. Dodson,84, of Taylorville, IL. passed away February 11, 2012 at 5:07am at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL.  He was born December 9, 1927 in Ramsey, IL to James "Frank" Della (Porter) Dodson.  He married Phyllis Marie Baumgartner on December 12, 1948 in Fillmore, IL. and preceded on August 1, 2001.  James was a farmer he enjoyed attending Christian County Senior Citizens, playing his omni-chord, and in his earlier years he loved farming and traveling.  He was a member of the Woodside Community Church.

Survived by Son: James Douglas (Bonnie) Dodson of Andrews, TX; daughters: Belinda (Billy) Dean Brown Jr. of Taylorville, IL; Judith D. (Robert) W. Birchenough of Omaha, AR; Grandchildren 8, Great Grandchildren 6, Brothers; Fred (Amber) Dodson of Pana, IL.; Sisters: Marguerite Lush of Sullivan, IL; Louis (Clyde) Brummet of Nokomis, IL; Evelyn Brummet of Mattoon, Il.; several cousins and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by parents, and wife Phylis, Brothers Nova and Harvey; Sister Verna Hill.

Jeanette M. Coffey of Taylorville

Jeanette M. Coffey, 75, of Taylorville, IL. died on February 8, 2012 at 3:43 am. at the Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville, IL.  Jeanette was born on December 5, 1936 in Taylorville to Jack and Beaulah(Smith) Alcorn.  She married Leo Stanley Durbin in 1953 in Taylorville, IL.  He preceded her in death in 1969.  She then married Richard Coffey at the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville on May 24, 1975.  He preceded her in death on October 20, 1998. She was an Insurance Representative and sales person for 34 years with Aflac Insurance Co. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #1516 in Taylorville.

She is survived by Son; Leonard Vaughn Durbin (companion:Michelle Smith) of Kincaid, IL; daughter; Karen Hall (companion: Brad Cox) of Taylorville, IL. She is also survived by 7 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren; Brother: Bobby (Sandy) Alcorn of Lake Tahoe, NV.  She was preceded in death by parents, both husbands, daughter: Sharon Durbin, sister: Judy Hile.

Lily Mae Ladd of Taylorville

Lily Mae Ladd, 82, of Taylorville, IL died Tuesday February 7, 2012 at 1:25 a.m. at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL.  She was born February 1, 1931 to John PW and Sylvia (Sebastian) Ladd.  She retired from St. Vincent Hospital after 27 years of service.  She attended the Edinburg High School and graduated with the class of 1949.  Mae was very loving and giving.  She enjoyed writing poetry, traveling and reading.  She also enjoyed fellowship with her friends and family.  She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survived by Brother; Rev. Donald L. Ladd of Springfield, MO; Sisters-in-law; Vera L. Ladd of Pana, IL and Agnes Ladd of Danville, IL.  Beloved Cousin: Phyllis Mays of Jacksonville, FL; nieces and nephews, several Great Nieces and Nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by: Parents; brothers: Ernest L. Ladd and Paul Ladd; Sisters: V. Berneice (Ladd) Wilson and Eunice F. (Ladd) Story; brothers-in-law; Rev. Charles Wilson and George R. Story; sister in law Ardella Ladd.

Sandra Kay Sandra Stapleton of Taylorville

Sandra Kay "Sandy" Stapleton, 62, of Taylorville, IL died at 8:58pm Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Methodist Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.

She was born January 31, 1950 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Dominic and Viola Perry Langiano.  On November 28, 1987 she married Dennis E. Stapleton at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Assumption.  Mrs. Stapleton was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Assumption and was a greeter at Wal-Mart in Taylorville.  She was a member of the National Rifle Association, and enjoyed fishing, camping, Black Powder Rendezvous.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Snow's.

Surviving are her husband Dennis E. Stapleton of Taylorville, Brothers:  Mike Langiano and wife Angie of Springfield, and Mark Langiano and wife Sheryl of Divernon.  Sister: Nancy Fennell and husband Bill of Booneville, AR.  Close friends: Angie Purkes and Vivian Lester both of Taylorville.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Dan Langiano.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Friday, February 10, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home with FR. Alan Hunter and Rev. Chuck Banning officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Assumption.  Visitation will be held from 9:00am until time of service in the funeral home on friday.

Naomi Johnson, 84, of Taylorville, IL.  died February 7,2012 at 2:30 pm at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.  She was born November 20, 1927 to Edison and Margaret (Mullens) Foster.  She was a retired homemaker.  Naomi also loved to play bingo.  She was a member of the First Nazarene Church, Taylorville, IL

(Gloria) Johnson and Richard Ivan (Sandra) Johnson of Taylorville.  Daughters; Linda Kay Johnson and Betty Jo ( John) Giles both of Taylorville, Vickie Sue (Bob) Davidson of Decatur, IL; Grandchildren; 16, Great-Grandchildren, 23; and 3 Great Great-Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by parents, sons; Joseph Charles Johnson and Donald Ray Johnson; Companion: Paul Sitki Jr.; sisters: Wanda Winn and Pearl Brooks

Mary Henrietta McCord Barnes of Taylorville

Mary Henrietta McCord Barnes, 88, of  Taylorville passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 8:58am at her residence.  She was born October 20, 1923 in Taylorville, the daughter of Royal Mason and Edna Molly Pope Kennedy.  She married Ronald Barnes in February, 1980 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death.  She graduated from Taylorville High School and Brown's Business College.  In later years she also had special training through extension courses from the University of Illinois in Lay Leadership, group dynamics, and public relations as well as in graphic arts at Richland Community College.  She served for many years as an ordained Elder as well as parish worker in many capacities including youth and Christian Education Director.  She was a member of the V.O.S.H. mission to Honduras, active in the Parent Teacher Association, serving on the local, district and state school boards, Kemmerer Village Board of Directors and later worked as director of public relations and development,

She is survived by her sons; Richard Kennedy McCord of Springfield and James Mason McCord of Rochester; daughter Patricia Ann (Darwin) Bayston of Orlando, FL.; brother, Eugene Kennedy of Taylorville, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, son Thomas William McCord, 2 brothers, Bruster Kennedy and Samuel Kennedy, and sister Betty Jane Waterman.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 3:00pm at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Dennis Hamilton officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012, from 1:30pm until time of service in the funeral home.

David Honn of TAYLORVILLE

DAVID HONN, 80, OF TAYLORVILLE,IL DIED AT 9:00AM THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2012 AT HIS RESIDENCE.  HE WAS BORN FEBRUARY 27, 1931 IN ARCOLA, IL, THE SON OF RAY AND NELLE EHRHART HONN.  ON DECEMBER 15, 1966 HE MARRIED NANCY RASCHE IN FRECH LICK, INDIANA.

DAVE BEGAN LIFE IN RURAL ARCOLA AND GREW UP ON THE FAMILY FARM HIS GRANDFATHER CREATED OVER 100 YEARS AGO.  HE WAS THE 5TH OF 6 CHILDREN AND BEGAN FARMING AT THE AGE OF 9 WHEN HIS TWO BROTHERS WERE AWAY IN THE SERVICE.  HE WENT ON TO ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS WHERE HE RECEIVED HIS MASTERS IN AG ECONOMICS.  HE WAS PROUD TO HAVE SERVED AS A MAJOR IN THE AIR FORCE AND THE RESERVES.  HE WORKED FOR MILLIKEN BANK IN DECATUR AND THEN FIRST TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK AS FARM MANAGER AND VICE PRESIDENT IN TAYLORVILLE.  DAVID GREW UP IN THE WALNUT GROVE CHRISTIAN CHURCH, WHICH WAS SITUATED ON LAND HIS FAMIY DONATED.  HE HAD BEEN AN ACTIVE MEMBER ON THE DAVIS MEMORIAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN TAYLORVILLE AND SERVED AS AN ELDER AND A MEMBER OF THE CHOIR.  HE HAD ALWAYS BEEN ACTIVE AND INTERESTED IN THE JOYS OF LIFE.  HE ENJOYED RAISING, RIDING AND SHOWING HORSES.  HE ALSO ENJOYED MOTORCYCLE RIDING AND SNOWMOBILE RIDING WOOD WORKING, RESTORING AND DRIVING ANTIQUE AND MUSCLE CARS, CAMPING, TRAVEL AND BOATING WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY.  HE TOOK TRIPS ALONG MANY RIVERS AND LAKES FROM KENTUCKY TO CANADA.  DAVE WAS A SKILLED WOOD WORKER AND AN AVID COOK IN HIS RETIREMENT.  HE WAS ESPECIALLY EXCITED TO TRY NEW AND EXOTIC RECIPES IN HIS OWN KITCHEN IN HIS "CAVE" IN THE COMPANY OF HIS GOOD CAT, SPOOK.  THIS LOVING AND GENTLE MAN WAS ALWAYS HAPPY TO SHARE HIS LIFE WITH HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN THE COMFORTABLE AND BEAUTIFUL SPACE HE CREATED IN THE COUNTRY.  DAVID PASSED AWAY AT HOME SURROUNDED BY HIS LOVING FAMILY AND CONSTANT SUPPORT OF HIS GOOD FRIENDS.

 

SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, NANCY HONN OF TAYLORVILLE; DAUGHTERS SUSAN HONN AND PARTNER DAVID TALKINGTON OF MIDDLESEX, VT AND MELISSA HONN.  SISTER; JOAN HONN OF ARCOLA, IL.  HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, 2 BROTHERS AND 2 SISTERS.

Jessie O. Staples of Stonington

Jessie O. Staples, 96, of Stonington passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 10:50am in Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville.  She was born June 18, 1915 in Stonington, the daughter of Edward and Minnie Sloan Watson.  She married Virgil W. Staples in December, 1933 in Indianapolis, IN. and he preceded her in death in April, 1979.  Mrs. Staples was a homemaker and had been employed as a clerk at Letcher's Store in Stonington and Podeschi's in Taylorville.  She was a member of the Stonington United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons:  Cloyd Staples and wife Mary Kay of Aniston, AL. and Michael W. Staples and wife Beverly of Griffin, GA.; sisters, Algeria "Gig" Letcher and husband George of Stonington, Eleanor Oliver of Mattoon and Lucille Duvall of Clackamas, OR.; 4 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:00am at Stonington United Methodist Church with rev. Ray Radae officiating.  Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 from 10:00am until time of service in the church on Friday.

Nancy H. Corzine of Oak Park

Nancy H. Corzine, 95, of Oak Park, Il., formerly of Christian County, passed away at 12:15am, Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in Oak Park.  She was born March 3, 1916 in Mt. Auburn, Il., the daughter of Roy and Pauline Stevens Hedrick.  she married Roy Allen Corzine, Jr. in March, 1942, in Taylorville and he preceded her in death in February, 1983. 

She is survived by her sons:  Jon Corzine and wife Sharon of Hoboken, NJ and Roy Allen Corzine III and wife Louise of Oak Park; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 1:30pm at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating.  Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 12:30pm until time of service in the First United Methodist Church on Friday.
