Hilda Louise Hibbetts of Taylorville

Hilda Louise Hibbetts, 95 of Taylorville, IL, passed away September 27, 2011 at 9:20am at the Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Taylorville, IL.  She was born September 8, 1916, in Stonington, IL.  She is the daughter of Charles and Emma (Jackson) McConnell.  She married Orville Hibbetts on December 2, 1936.  He preceded her in death on July 25, 2011.  They were married seventy-four years.  She was a retired cafeteria cashier for the Taylorville High School and a farmer.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Taylorville and the Taylorville Eagles Club.

She is survived by daughter in-law, Donna Hibbetts of Tovey, IL.;Brothers, Bob McConnell of Taylorville IL and Don (Mabel) McConnell. Sister, Ruth Fore of Springfield, IL. and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by husband.

Funeral services will be held Monday October 3, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with Pastor Becky Lembeke officiating.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL.  Visitation will be held October 3, 2011 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL

Mary (Ettinger) Yeaman of Springfield

Mary (Ettinger) Yeaman, 55, of Copperas Cove, TX passed away September 26, 2011 at 6:38pm at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL, She was born February 7, 1956 in Decatur, IL the daughter of W. Hayden and Ann M. (Norman) Ettinger.  She was married to William R Yeaman on May 12, 1978 in Taylorville, IL.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Texas with B's in Studies. Then in December of 1997 she was employed by ATU, UCT.  She was a University Scheduler.

She is survived by husband, William Yeaman; son, Roy L. Wilbur Jr. of Taylorville, IL. William M. (Keleka) Yeaman of Beale Air Force Base, Beale, CA; Daughter, Katherine A. (Victorn N.) Reed of Fort Lewis, WA; Brother, William Ettinger of Springfield, IL; Sister, Nancy Tullis of Taylorville, IL. and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Riley Kay Dunn of Gillespie

Riley Kay Dunn, 18, of Gillespie, IL passed away September 26, 2011 6:00am at her residence in Gillespie.  She was born March 19, 1993 in Decatur, the daughter of Eric Dunn and Janet Manley Dunn.  She was a student.

She is survived by Father and Step-mother, Eric & Cara Dunn of Stonington, IL; Mother Janet Dunn & companion Raymond Beebe of Gillespie,IL.  Survived by grandparents, Larry & Pat Langon of Pana; James and Audrey Manley Sr. of Assumption, IL.  Brothers: Nicholas Dunn of Gillespie, IL and Aiden Dunn of Stonington, IL. Sisters: Ashlyn & Josie Beebe of Gillespie, IL and Ashlee Kinsel of Springfield, IL.  Special cousin Chancie Manley of Assumption, IL  and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her great grandpas.

Dixie A. Deweese of Taylorville

Dixie A. Deweese, 65, of Taylorville passed away September 26, 2011 at 11:36am at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Il.  She was born September 3, 1946 in Taylorville, the daughter of Nina Price.  She married Robert Deweese in November, 1969 in Taylorville.  She was a beautician and sales clerk for JC Penney Catalog Dept. and also a homemaker.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by son Larry Deweese and Fiancee Chris Schwent of Willowbrook, Il; long time friend Robert Deweese of Taylorville; special friends Doug Zimmer of Glen Ellyn, Il and Becky Sarver Reed of Assumption, Il; sister-in-law Clara Ethridge of Taylorville and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her mother, grandparents and brother, Larry Ethridge.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00am in Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville with Pastor Bob Spurgin officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 5-8pm in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Alvin Al Elliott of Sartell, MN

Alvin "Al" Elliott, 84, of Sartell, MN passed away September 23, 2011 at 9:52pm Country Manor, Sartell, MN.  He was born January 3, 1927 in Taylorville, the son of Glenn and Ruth (Ladd) Elliott.  He married Loretta Kelly.  He was a machinist for the Brunswick Corp. and a veteran of the U S Army.

He is survived by several nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Loretta; Harold, Robert, Anna Belle Osteling, and Eileen Elliott.

Christine V. Gisinger of Jackson, TN

Christine V. Gisinger, 91, of Jackson, TN, a former longtime resident of Stonington, Il, passed away August 13, 2011 in Jackson, TN.  She was born February 2, 1920 in Alabama.  She married Nyle R. Gisinger in September, 1939. She was a housewife and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by daughters; Sharon (Ron) Emerson of Cordova, TN and Nyla (Neil) Linn of Jackson, TN; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Nyle.

Leslie Jo Black of Taylorville

Leslie Jo Black, 17, of Taylorville, passed away September 25, 2011 at 2:00am at her residence in Taylorville.  She was born August 17, 1994 in Springfield the daughter of Don and Judy Brockamp Black.  Leslie was a student at Taylorville High School.  She loved to play softball on the THS Softball Team, fishing, and motorcycle riding.

She is survived by her parents, sister, Christina Brockamp of Morrisonville and special friend Quinton Lancaster of Kincaid.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents Leslie and Molly Black and Wanda and John Christian; and Uncle Jeff Christian.

Leonora Armstrong of Taylorville

Leonora Armstrong 96, of Taylorville died at 4:58am Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville. She was born March 1, 1915 in Moweaqua, the daughter of Fred and Theresa Sabine Hensey. On March 1, 1941 she married William H. Armstrong in Kentucky and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1973. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville and the Ladies of the Moose. She was a farmwife, moving to the farm as a child and working with her parents, her husband and finally her daughter and son-in-law working with three generations.

Surviving are her daughters: Susie Johnson and husband Butch of Taylorville and Sally Brusveen and husband Jim of Naperville. Grandchildren: Bradley Alan Johnson, Patrick James Brusveen, and Timothy William Brusveen. Great Grandchild: Braden Cole Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Brother John Hensey and Sister Louise Blanchard.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am Tuesday September 27, 2011 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6pm-8pm Monday at the funeral home.

Christine Marie Stephens of Taylorville

Christine Marie Stephens, 56, of Taylorville, passed away September 21, 2011 at @5:00pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL.  She was born Oct 18, 1954 in Taylorville, the daughter of Maurice and Marie (Hamilton) Plopper. She married Mark D. Stephens March 3, 1990 in Edinburgh, IL.  She was a housewife.  She loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, family and all her friends.  She enjoyed helping and being at the farm; she also enjoyed cattle shows.  She was a member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church.

She is survived by husband Mark; son Jeff (Nicole) Peden of Mansfield, TX; Daughters Jennifer (Kevin) Arce of Yigo, Guam, Katie and Kayla Stephens both of Edinburgh, IL. Norman G. Smith of Pawnee

Norman G. Smith, 81, of Pawnee passed away at 1:35 pm Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born January 13, 1930 in Tovey, Il. the son of Roscoe and Alberta Messersmith Smith.  He married Norma Foster in August, 1951 in Kincaid, Il.  Norman was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid.  Mr. Smith had been a farmer for over 50 years.  He was a Korean War veteran and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in the Artillery after earning the Bronze Star.  He was a member of the Kincaid American Legion and the Chrisitan County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife: Norma Smith of Pawnee; children:  Cleta (Vic) Menossi of Taylorville, Cinda (Dave) Johnson of Springfield, David (Gloria) Smith of Kincaid, and Julie (Paul) Moody of West Palm Beach, FL.  Sisters:  Barbara (Phil) Bohlen of Moweaqua and Brenda (Chuck) Ward of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bernard Smith, and granddaughter Jamie German.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 12:30 pm at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am until noon at McClure Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

Alma M. Black of Taylorville

Alma M. Black, 95, of Taylorville, passed away September 18, 2011 at 6:15am at the Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Taylorville, IL.  She was born March 9, 1916 in Herrick, the daughter of Earl and Addie Beck Weaver.  She married Frank Black on April 2, 1934 in Shelbyville, IL.  She owned and operated the first health club and health food store in Taylorville.  A beauty salon, steam bath parlor that Frank and Alma operated.  She had been business woman of the year, and active as a navy mother for years.  She raised several foster children and in later years took care of the elderly in her home.  She was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Taylorville, IL.

She is survived by Son; James (Peggy) Black of Danville, IL; daughter; Marilyn Malmberg of Taylorville, IL. Brothers; Glen(Ruby) Weaver of Port Huron, MI; Kenneth Weaver of Elgin, IL; John (Mary) Weaver of Mt. Zinn, IL; Eugene (Marilyn) Weaver of Decatur, IL., Sisters; Pauline(Frank) O'Conner of Elgin, IL, Mary (Don) Hadden of Decatur, IL; Alice Trueblood of Pekin, IL.; Sister-in-law, Melba Weaver of Assumption, IL.; Several grand children, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert Lanell Black, brother Lloyd Weaver.

Sheila Mae Qualls of Taylorville

Sheila Mae Qualls, 54, of Taylorville, passed away September 14, 2011 at 9:55pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital, Taylorville, IL.  She was born November 9, 1956 in Springfield, the daughter of James and Delores (Smith) Madiar.  She married Joseph Qualls on December 23, 2006 in Hannibal, MO.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by Mother and Step-father; Delores and Lou Forbes of Morrisonville, IL Father and Step-mother; James and Luella Madiar of Converse, LA; Brother; Joe Madiar of W. Monroe, LA and Chris John Madiar of Shreveport, LA. Sister; Brenda (Chris) Cochran of Long Creek, IL. Granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by Brother; Phillip Madiar.

Sally J. Hathaway of Taylorville

Sally J. (Kerwin) Hathaway, 56, of Taylorville, passed away September 13, 2011 at 1:30am at her residence in Taylorville.  She was born November 27, 1954 in Taylorville, the daughter of William and Carol (Phillips) Kerwin.  She married Edwin Hathaway in September, 1991 in San Bernardino, CA.  She was an office manager and homemaker.  She was a member of the Church of God in Kincaid, Il. and a 1987 graduate of the Adelphi Business School in San Bernardino, CA.

She is survived by her husband Edwin; sons, Sam Bethard of Morrisonville and Daniel Carter of Chicago; daughters, Lori Ryan of Blue Mound, Dee Bradley of Seattle, WA.; step-daughters, Sheila Hathaway of Joshua, TX and Dorinda Hunt of Redlands, CA: brother, Steve Kerwin of Taylorville; sister Sharon McQuire of Taylorville; 16 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father William Kerwin, sister, Sarah Kerwin and uncle Donald Kerwin.

Alan Joseph McKinney of Taylorville, IL

Alan Joseph McKinney, 61, of Taylorville, IL passed away September 13,2011 at 6:30 at the Illiana VA Hospital, Danville, IL.  He was born January 16, 1950 in Taylorville, IL the son of Laverne H. and Josephine Dalpoas McKinney.  On April 12, 1972 he married Jenney Boeyink McKinney in Springfield, IL.  He had been employed at Peabody Coal Company Mine #10 until it closed.  He enjoyed NASCAR racing, riding his Harley and restoring antique autos.

He is survived by his wife, Jenney McKinney of Taylorville; Mother, Josephine "China" McKinney of Taylorville; Son, Anthony J. (AJ) and (wife Melinda) McKinney and several grand children.  He was preceded in death by his father, Laverne McKinney and Brother Donald McKinney.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 16, 2011 at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Fr. Dan Willenborg officiating.  Burial with military honors will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at 10:00 at McClure Funeral Home Friday, September 16, 2011.

Agnes Sue Sims of Taylorville

Agnes Sue Sims, 90, of Taylorville, passed away September 11, 2011 at 4:25 pm at Taylorville Care Center, Taylorville, IL.  She was born January 15, 1921 in Herrin, IL, the daughter of Ed Jenkins and Daisy May (Howard) Jenkins.  She married Harlow Sims on November 2, 1940 in Missouri.  She was employed at Angelo's Pizza for several years.  She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene Taylorville, IL.

She is survived by son, James Sims of Clinton, IL; daughters, Linda Brewer of Taylorville and Judy Stine of Belleville; daughter-in-law Dianna Sims of Taylorville; Brother, Lewis Jenkins of Goreville, IL; Sister, Virginia Hadders of Buncombe, IL. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harlow Sims, Sons; Roy L. Sims and Glen Sims, Brother, Frank Jenkins.

Ruby Jeanette Gebhart of Taylorville

 Ruby Jeanette Gebhart, 86, of Taylorville, formerly of Stonington, died at 10:30pm Friday, September 9, 2011 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Taylorville. She was born March 7, 1925 in Stonington, the daughter of Otto F. and Frieda Furstenberg Young. On June 15, 1947 she married Arthur W. Gebhart in Stonington and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1978. During World War II she worked at the McDonald Aircraft Company in Decatur and then taught in the one room Old Stonington School until she married and raised her family while helping as a farmwife.

Ruby was a member of the Stonington United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served for a number of years on the District United Methodist Women Board. She was a graduate of Blackburn College receiving Associates Degree and served on the boards of the Blackburn Alumni Association. She was very active in the Christian County Home and Community Education, Christian County Farm Bureau, Christian County Lady Land Owners Association, and Bridges Mentoring Program. She was a member of the Christian County Farm Bureau, The Christian County Farm Bureau Women for a number of years serving as chairman for several of those years. Ruby served with the Christian County Soil and Water conservation District, was a member of the Christian County Home and Community Education Association and the local Stonington Night Unit of the H.C.E.A. She served eight years on the Illinois Farm Bureau Women’s Committee representing District 11. She had also been a 4-H leader in Stonington for several years. Ruby gave her time and leadership generously to numerous organizations and those in need. She made hospital gowns for premature babies, knitted mittens and blankets for those who needed them, and made turbans for cancer patients. She spent countless hours quilting for herself and others. Her children and grandchildren were among her greatest treasures.

Surviving are her children: Pennie (John) Crinion Downers Grove, IL, Paul Gebhart of Edinburg, and Rebecca (Bob) Steiner of Taylorville. 5 Grandchildren: Cody (Shawna) Gebhart of Marion, Molly (Sam) Williams of Benton, Maggie Gebhart of Taylorville, Monica Crinion and Maureen Crinion of Downers Grove, two Great Grandsons, Cohen and Beckett Gebhart of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Angeline Crinion, Brother, Maurice Young, and two sisters, Velira Moore and Pauline Young.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, September 13, at the Stonington United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Radae officiating. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm Monday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Memorials may be made out to the Stonington United Methodist Church, 304 N. Elm Stonington, IL 62567.

Lou Belle Prior of Taylorville

Lou Belle Prior 99, of Taylorville, IL (formerly of Mt. Auburn), passed away September 6, 2011 at 5:02 am at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville.  She was born December 30, 1911 in Rural Mechanicsburg IL, daughter of David & Margaret (Dobson) Dillon.  She married Harvey Prior on November 24, 1928 in Sangamon County, IL.  She was a homemaker and retired from Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.  She was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church. She loved her family and spending time with them. She also liked to crochet and work on puzzle books.  She enjoyed visiting with her friends.

She is survived by son, Lloyd (Elaine) Prior of Taylorville,IL, daughters, Eileen Ealey of Cerro Gordo, IL and Phyllis (Frank) Harty Jr. of Mt. Auburn, IL., brothers, Russell (Nina) Dillon of GA and Melvin Dillon of Mitchell, IN. Sisters, Edith Henderson of Bolivia, IL and Pearl Dillon of Springfield, IL. Sister-in-law Sharol Dillon of Springfield, IL and 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and 1 great great great great granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson;Lyle, two sisters and two brothers.

David Eugene Bishop of Springfield

David Eugene Bishop, 70, of Springfield, IL, passed away September 5, 2011 at 7:43 pm at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.  He was born February 10, 1941 in  Taylorville, IL, the son of Ritzman and Melba (Jones) Bishop.  He was employed by the State of Illinois School of Medicine. He retired in 2006. He has 15 years of education.  He is a member of the Heartland Community Church, Springfield, IL.

He is survived by sisters, Rhea Sue (Bob) Powell of Stonington, IL; Barbara Ann (Ron) Moomey of Owaneco, IL and Linda Lou (Roger) Schroyer of Taylorville, IL, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

David Lee Anderson of Taylorville

David Lee Anderson, 51, of Taylorville passed away September 5, 2011 at 9:05 at his residence in Taylorville.  He was born September 14, 1959 in Alexandria, VA, the son of Donald and Alverna Fay (True) Anderson Sr.  He was a high school graduate with 12 years of education.

He is survived by Step-Father Leonard Nail of Mt. Auburn, IL; sons, Justin Kennedy and Rob Watson both of Taylorville; David Harvey of Lincoln, IL. Daughter, Alicia (Lawrence) Harris of Springfield, IL., brothers, Don (Geneva) Anderson of Mt. Auburn and Bruce (Caroline) Anderson of Taylorville. Sisters, Carolyn (Chuck) Carter of Blue Mound, IL, Deb (Dennis) Sanders of Taylorville, Aunt and uncle Tom (Leona) True of Mt. Auburn, IL. 2 grand children, 7 nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father Don Anderson Sr., Mother Alverna Fay (True) Nail, Uncle Leon True.

Louis M. Cirar of Taylorville

Louis M. Cirar, 98, of Taylorville, IL (formerly Chicago), passed away at 2:55 a.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born October 17, 1912 in Oak Creek, CO., the son of Louis and Mary Cirar.  He married Mary A. Bukovsky in Chicago, IL and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2001. Mr. Cirar was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Taylorville.

He is survived by his son Louis Cirar, Jr. of Prospect Heights, IL and daughter, Marlene (Richard) Koski of Chicago; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Richard L. Thacker of Taylorville

Richard L. Thacker, 78, of Taylorville passed away September 3, 2011 at 11:40 PM in his residence. He was born April 5, 1933 in Pana, IL the son of Clyde and Myrtle McKee Thacker. He married Cleo Smith on February 18, 1951 on Corinth, MS. He owned and operated Deans safety service, worked on the railroad, farmed and production manager at Breeze Courier also was sales rep for Snap on Tools. Richard went to be with his Lord after a heroic battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and was a great testimony to all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by wife, Cleo Thacker, sons: Terry L. (Theda) Thacker of Leesburg, GA, Gene (Kathie) Thacker of Charleston, IL., seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, sisters: Shirley (John) Young of Taylorville, Donna Watkins of Taylorville, Lorrie Nation of Taylorville, Sandy (Jim) Gibson of Taylorville, brother: Bob (Margaret) Thacker of St. Petersburg, FL., nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Saturday September 10, 2011 from 10-12 noon at Taylorville Christian Church in. Funeral services will be after the visitation on Saturday 10, 2011 at Taylorville Christian Church with Rev. Richard Wamsley officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Memorial Home Services hospice at 720 N. Bone St. Springfield, IL, or Vision Way Christian School at 1124 N. Webster St. Taylorville IL.

Gayle O. Brockelsby of Edinburg

Gayle O. Brockelsby, 78, of Edinburg, IL died at 11:38pm Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Heritage Manor Healthcare, Springfield, IL. He was born October 6, 1932. On October 19, 1952 he married Margaret Elder in the Berea Christian Church at Mt. Auburn.  Gayle was a farmer in the Edinburg area.  He was a member of the Edinburg Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Brockelsby of Edinburg; 2 sons, Steve (Marcia) Brockelsby of Taylorville, Bruce Brockelsby of Edinburg; 3 daughters, Marsha (Mike) Lanham of Taylorville, Judy (Gary) McKinnie of Morrisonville, and Janet (Scott) Haines of Edinburg.  10 grandchildren, 11 great -grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Agnes Brockelsby, Daughter-in-law, Cathy Brockelsby, two brothers, Merle Brockelsby and Carl Brockelsby and a sister, Mildred Gowdy.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 3pm at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville with Rev. Rob Peterson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1:00pm - 3:00pm in the funeral home.
