Julie Ann Gulso of Kincaid

Julie Ann Gulso, 56, of Kincaid, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at 12:48 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born January 11, 1958 in Taylorville, IL. The Daughter of George and Natalie (Martin) Upchurch. She married Nelson Gulso on June 12, 1976  at the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville, IL. She was a teachers aid in Special Education in Taylorville, Kincaid and Chatham school districts. She was a member and chairman of the Midland United Methodist Church Missions and she Volunteered at the Kincaid Food Pantry.


She is survived by her Husband: Nelson of Kincaid, IL; Mother: Natalie Upchurch of Taylorville, IL; Son: Jacob Gulso of Kincaid, IL; Daughter: Abby Gulso of Kincaid, IL; Brothers: Michael Upchurch of Taylorville, IL; Jim (Bonnie) Upchurch of New Iberia, LA.; Sister: Jane Hunsche of Taylorville, IL; Several  Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents: Paul and Edna Upchurch; Homer and Helen Martin; Father, George Upchurch.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Linda Vonck officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL at a later date. Visitation will be held Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.

Daniel G. Thompson of Taylorville

Daniel G. Thompson, 25, of Glendale California, formerly of Taylorville passed away at 1:36pm, Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Taylorville Township. He was born on September 2, 1989 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Randy & Gina Berg Thompson. Danny was a 2008 graduate of Taylorville High School and a 2012 graduate of Bradley University. He worked as an operator in the albumin manufacturing plant for Baxter Travenol.In high school he enjoyed playing the saxophone in Jazz Band and worked at the Taylorville Cinema for several years. He enjoyed hiking in the mountains outside of Glendale and gaming with his friends.

He is survived by his parents: Randy & Gina Thompson of Taylorville; Sister: Emily Thompson, fiancée Jason Cameron, of Austin Texas; Brother: Romaric Pelissier, of Paris, France; Grandparents: Gene & Joan Thompson of Morgantown, Indiana; Aunts & Uncles: Kevin & Jeri Thompson of Morgantown, Indiana, Roger & Therese Thompson, of New Albany, Ohio, Kim & Ken Emmons, of Koontz Lake, Indiana, Jed & Darlene Berg of Charlotte, North Carolina, & Lynne Metz of Knox Indiana; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Gene & Virgina Berg.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday December 31, 2014 at the Taylorville Christian Church with Pastor Michael St. Louis officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, Palmer, IL. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Taylorville High School Band. McClure Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Robert E. Bob Pigati of Taylorville

Robert E. “Bob” Pigati, 85, of Taylorville, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at 8:45 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. He was born in 1929 in Highwood, Illinois, he was one of four sons of August Pigati Sr. and Elsie A. Pigati. Bob resided in Taylorville all of his adult life.

He was an Army combat veteran of the Korea Conflict, serving 1950 – 1951.  He was wounded and received two Purple Hearts, the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), and the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars.  He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 905 and a member of the Taylorville VFW Post 4495.


After his military service, Bob worked at Borg-Warner for several years and other auto dealerships, including Gilbert H. Large & Company.  He later started his own business where he specialized in automobile front-end and brake work.  He retired in 1991.


Bob was a “scratch” golfer and won the Taylorville City Men’s Tournament in 1980.  He was also a very good bowler and pool shooter.  He also loved to fish and play card games.  
Survivors include his Brother, Richard “Dick” Pigati, Sr. of Greenwood, IN, (Previously of Spencer, IN), and several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, August (Gus) Pigati Jr. and Jack J. Pigati.


Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton, IL with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton, IL. There will be no viewing.

Evelyn Lucille Stalets of Taylorville

Evelyn Lucille Stalets, 99, of Taylorville passed away at 11:45 AM on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

 

She was born on December 22, 1915 at Niantic the daughter of Alonzo and Lelah (Powell) Carr.. She married William H. Stalets in 1935 at Vandalia; he preceded her in death on April 5, 1970. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Son, James “Jim” Stalets; Brothers, Harold Carr, Raymond Carr and Oscar Carr; Sisters, Erma Boston and Thelma Clark.

 

Evelyn was cafeteria supervisor for Taylorville Public Schools for 28 years before her retirement. She was a 50 year member of Davis Memorial Christian Church where she enjoyed all church activities. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women and Navy Mother’s. Evelyn specially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

 

Survivors include: Daughter, Judy (husband, Ed) Smith of Taylorville, IL; Sons, Lonnie (wife, Mona) Stalets of Assumption, IL and Bill (wife, Eileen) Stalets of Findlay, OH; 13 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren; Many Great Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Lorene Brewer of Akron, OH and Helen Griffith of Taylorville, IL; Many Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Davis Memorial Christian Church with Rev. Tiney Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 11:00AM until time of service at Davis Memorial Christian Church.

Dorothy B. Blair of Bucyrus

Dorothy B. Blair, 90, of Bucyrus, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Bucyrus Community Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born January 19, 1924 in Taylorville, Illinois to the late Troy and Leona (Parrill) Grant. Her family moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1938 where she graduated from Springfield High School in 1941. That next year she married R. Keith Blair and he preceded her in death February 13, 1992. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Clark.

She worked at Internal Revenue for two and half years and Illinois Bell Telephone for 22 ½ years before retiring in 1985 and moving to Bucyrus to be near family.

Dorothy was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Builders Sunday School Class, Sunday School teacher and Women’s Missionary Society. She delivered Meals on Wheels, served as an election worker for over 20 years and was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

She enjoyed reading, corresponding with friends, embroidery work, crocheting, crossword puzzles and most of all, Dorothy enjoyed time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Keith D. (Peggy) Blair of Bucyrus; daughters, Donna (Wayne) Hadley of Baldwin, Wisconsin and Janet (Robert) Brown of Marion, Illinois;  grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin) Dick, Jennifer (David) Link and their son, Tyler, Krista Blair, Kurt (LeAnn) Brown, Adam (Heather) Brown and their two sons, Owen and Jack, Kristy Verhaest and her two children, Ben and Julia, Kelly (Jim) Standish and their four children, Brendon, Taylor, Matt and Evan, Scott (Michelle) Hadley, Susan Schmaedeke and Shelly Hadley and her two sons, Eric and Leo. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, David (Edith) Grant and family of Springfield; special nieces and nephews and close friends, David and Gennie Rios of Bucyrus.

Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Wise Funeral Service and Dorothy’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn UMC with Rev. Sarah MacDonald officiating. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 from 9-10 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ken Manning officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Illinois.

Marian Jean Boulanger of Montrose, Iowa

Marian Jean Boulanger, 86, of Montrose, Iowa formerly of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at her home.

She was born on September 2, 1928 at Sangamon County the daughter of Ray and Hazel (Neal) Leaderbrand. She married Albert Boulanger on January 26, 1946 at Taylorville; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Son, David Boulanger, Sister, Gloria Pelc and a Brother, Larry Leaderbrand.

Marian was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Tovey Grade School and South Fork High School. Marian was a devout member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, active in ministry, loved to read and most of all enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: Daughters, Brenda Boulanger of Shipshewana, IN and Priscilla (husband, Paul) Lorentzen of Montrose, IA; Son, Terry Boulanger of Litchfield, IL; Brothers, Harold Leaderbrand of Morrisonville, IL, Jim (wife, Maggie) Leaderbrand of Dayton, NV and Preston (wife, Bonnie) Leaderbrand of Spencer, IN; Sister, Lucille (husband, Jesse) Franklin of Taylorville, IL; 7 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:15 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville with Brother Richard Schilly officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.

Beverly J. Jeannie Murphy of Taylorville

Beverly J. “Jeannie” Murphy, 44, of Taylorville, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at 9:16 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was born March 24, 1970 in Springfield, IL. The Daughter of Dwight and Pamela (Brown) Rozplochowski. She married Steven Murphy on September 30, 1989 in Taylorville, IL and they were later divorced. She worked as an LPN at several of area nursing homes.  


She is survived by her Companion: Jerimiah Johnson of Taylorville, IL; Son: Christopher Murphy of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Pamela Rozplochowski of Taylorville, IL; Father: Dwight Rozplochowski of Taylorville, IL; Four Grandchildren; Brothers: Dwight (Patricia) Rozplochowski II of Taylorville, IL; Jesse Rozplochowski of Taylorville, IL; John Rozplochowski of Taylorville, IL; Sisters: Samantha (Anthony) Barstow of Kincaid, IL; Danielle Cunningham of Kincaid, IL; Several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents and her mother.

Jennie D. Suffern of Taylorville

Jennie D. Suffern, 87 of Taylorville passed away at 9:55 PM on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

She was born on October 6, 1927 at Taylorville the daughter of the late Elmer “Pete” and Mamie (Ross) Spindel. She married Richard Suffern on April 2, 1966 at Taylorville; he preceded her in death on November 17, 1985.

Jennie worked as a telephone operator for Consolidated Communications, retiring after many years of service. She also was a babysitter and a member of Community Women’s Association. She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include: Daughter, Melinda (husband, Brian) Foor of Taylorville, IL; Jennie’s beloved grandson, Wyatt Samuel Ross Foor.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville with Pastoral Care Shelia Kaye officiating. Brian Y. Drip Waldrop of Taylorville

Brian Y. “Drip” Waldrop, 55, of Taylorville, IL died at 1:10 am Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 4, 1959 in Vincennes, Indiana. On August 27, 2010 he married the love of his life, Linda M. Lemanski in Las Vegas, NV. Brian was employed by the Illinois Air National Guard in Springfield and had been deployed to the Middle East. Prior to that he had been employed by Bunn-O-Matic in Springfield. Brian was an avid Chicago Bears fan and was able to attend several games. He also loved riding his Harley-Davidson and had owned many during his lifetime.

Surviving are his wife: Linda M. Waldrop of Taylorville; Daughter: Kayla Waldrop of Edinburg; Brother: Mark Waldrop and wife Karen of Eureka, IL; Sister: Tina Denney of Riverton; Step Mother: Diane Waltrip of Springfield; Step Daughter: Amanda Mullaney and husband Ryan of Highland; Step Son: Craig Cole of Nokomis; 3 Step Grandchildren: Evelyn Mullaney, Kooper Cole, and Kynzie Cole. He was preceded in death by his Father.

Graveside inurnment services with military honors will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, December 22, 2014 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton. There will be no visitation.

Donald LeRoy Kohl of Bolovia

Donald “LeRoy” Kohl, 78, of Bolovia, IL, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 10:45 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born January 10, 1936 in Bolovia, IL. The Son of Irvin Kohl and Lynna Ruth (Hartsock) Doyle. He married Bonnie J. Stogdell on December 26, 1955 at the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ. He was a retired farmer, and had also retired from Caterpillar in Decatur where he had worked for 30 years. He was a Member of the NRA. He loved Mushroom and game hunting, fishing, family and friends.


He is survived by his Wife:  Bonnie Kohl of Bolovia, IL; Sons: Brett Allen Kohl of Florida and Eric LeRoy (Heather) Kohl of Edinburg, IL; Daughters: Kim Kohl and companion Robert Crowder; Marjorie Kohl-Carter of Tennessee; Grandchildren: Charles III and Crystal Ray Bowles; Angela and Brett Kohl Jr., Alexandra and Kyle Crowder, Nickolas and Crystalyn Carter, Levi Kohl; Seven Great Grandchildren; Son-in-Law: Charles Bowles Jr. of Virginia; several Nieces and Nephews. Annabel L. Cocagne of Taylorville

Annabel L. Cocagne, 92, of Taylorville, IL died at 8:20 am Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Gowin Parc, in Taylorville.

She was born November 23, 1922 in Oconee, IL, the daughter of Louis and Anna Pollman Kuhn. On February 19, 1944 she married Darrel E. Cocagne in Oconee, and he preceded her in death on April 20, 2014. Annabel was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and was a very active member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She spent her entire married life as a housewife and loving mother taking pride in her impeccable home and the appearance of her children. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and playing cards.

Surviving are her sons: Bill Cocagne and wife Jan of Taylorville, Denny Cocagne and wife Nancy of Springfield and Jerry Cocagne and wife Lori of Taylorville; Daughters: Pat White and husband Bob of Minonk and Denise King and husband Bill of Maroa. There are 12 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Robert Kuhn of Oconee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Edward Joseph Cocagne in infancy, brother: James Kuhn, and sisters: Leona Hoehn, Norma Marley and Ruth Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 17 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Assumption. Lucille E. Irwin of Taylorville

Lucille E. Irwin, 94, of Taylorville, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 4:15 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. She was born August 8, 1920 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of Simon and Christina (Miller) Banning. She married Ernest Irwin on February 29, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. and he later preceded her in death on April 29, 1985. She was a retired seamstress and a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville.


She is survived by her Son: Ernest (Linda) Irwin of Taylorville; Daughters: Karen Murphy- Saner of Taylorville; Judith (Edward) Craig of Chatham; Six Grandchildren; Twelve Great Grandchildren; Eleven Great-Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Parents, Sister: Wanita Boch, Step-Sisters: Mary Louise Yonker, Annabelle Norville, Step-Brothers: John, Edward and Ray Lamb, Granddaughter: Kimberly Murphy .

Kenneth Bangert of Taylorville

80 year old Kenneth Bangert of Taylorville passed away Sunday at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

The Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is in charge of arrangements. Services for 80 year old Kenneth Bangert will be held at 10 am on Wednesday at Fairview Methodist Church Rural Nokomis, Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

David M. Childers of Taylorville

David M. Childers, 68, of Taylorville, IL died at 5:26 am Monday, December 8, 2014 at his residence.

He was born November 1, 1946 in Taylorville, the son of Vincent L. “Bud” and Emily L Shivers Childers. On December 14, 1968 he married Carol L. Taylor in Taylorville. Dave was a member of the Taylorville Police Department from 1969 until his retirement as Police Chief in November 1996. He was then involved in Police work in Nokomis, Kincaid, and the Secretary of State Capital Police Force where he retired in 2010. Dave had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany, a member of V.F.W. Post 4495, Moose Lodge #1516 and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving are his sons: David Michael Childers, Jr. and wife Rebecca and Vincent Childers and wife Suzanne all of Taylorville. There are 4 Grandchildren: Markie Childers, Michelle Childers, Kevin Childers and Kellie Childers. Brother: Roy L. “Buddy” Childers and wife Linda of Taylorville, and an Aunt: Josephine Shivers of Venice, FL. There are several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 11 at McClure Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at McClure Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 10. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Kimberly Ann “Kim” Daniels, 34, of Taylorville, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at 1:40 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was born October 18, 1980 in Springfield, IL. The Daughter of Richard Daniels and Janice (Wingo) Schuyler. She enjoyed the outdoors and being with family.


She is survived by her Parents Janice Schuyler of Taylorville and Richard Daniels of Edinburg, IL; Maternal Grandmother Nova Wingo of Taylorville, IL; Son: Gage Howell; Daughters: Alanna Reese, Kylie Howell; Brothers Kevin (Tracey) Daniels of Champaign, IL; Patrick Schuyler of Taylorville; Chris (Maggie) Daniels of Taylorville; Jesse (Amber) Daniels of Taylorville; Sisters: Bev (Max) Chitwood of Taylorville; Brittany (Aaron) Samson of Taylorville; Uncles: Dennis (Cathy) Wingo of Elgin, IL; Mike Wingo of Island Lake, IL; Aunts: Patty (Ron) Hall of Taylorville; Gail (Mark) Richards; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Paul Dee Kindred of Taylorville

Paul Dee Kindred, 93 of Taylorville, passed away on December 2, 2014 at 8:08 a.m. at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on June 16, 1921 at home in Taylorville, IL to Linburn L. and Edith Muriel (Deweese) Kindred. He married Helen Louis Head on October 5, 1946 in Taylorville, IL and she later preceded him on March 23, 2013. To Celebrate their 25th wedding Anniversary they went to Paris, France. At the time of her death they had been married 67 years.

He belonged to the Taylorville High School Tumbling Team (1940) that won several competitions under the direction of Coach Dolph Stanley. He was an avid gymnast during his early years. In May of 1941 he enlisted in the United Stated Marine Corps. He served in World War II in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1945 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from Caterpillar in Decatur, IL where he was a pipefitter and was a member of the Pipefitters Union. He also owned Kindred Plumbing and Heating for many years until he retired. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 4495 and a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 73. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He served as A Grand Marshall of the Taylorville Veterans Day Parade and for His 90th birthday he was accompanied by his son, Frank, on a Veteran’s Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. where he was able to visit all of the memorials.

He is survived by 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, 1 sister, 2 brothers and several nieces and nephews. His first great-great grandchild is on its way. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, a son who died at birth, and 5 siblings.

He enjoyed building different items and making repairs for all of his children, family or whoever needed the repairs.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Tiney Walker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside honors. Luncheon will directly follow at the American Legion post 73 in Taylorville.
